Got same problem upgrading Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Server Running Windows Small Business Server 2003. I am performing not a upgrade but as stated in the description:
You must choose No, do not upgrade at this time, which results in a side-by-side installation.
When running SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard it will not find the config database. This might be caused by the fact the Sharepoint databases are running on a different SQL instance (on the same server).

How to tell SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard not to use the default SQL instance?

I am in the process of rolling out Windows 7 for our business. We have approximately 50 combined desktops and laptops that will be getting the upgrade. This deployment will be gradual, starting off with only 10 laptops. My question is,
what are my options regarding client activation using KMS with this small roll out? We have decided we definitely want to go with KMS, not MAK. We do have a KMS server up and running, however I'm running into the issue of needing 25 clients
    to activate the KMS service.
To put it simply, I will not have 25 clients for an extended period of time. What are my options moving forward using KMS?

DB:3.77:Windows 7 Deployment Using Kms ps

It would depend on the timeline until you'd be able to keep the count over 25. If its a fairly short time frame (say less than 3mos), then it might be easier to just use KMS. If not, the MAK to KMS route might be easier to manage.--Joseph [MSFT]

is this possible? sort of like when u slow down a record and then let it go..

    thanks!

    J

    DB:3.48:Keyframe Audio? 3d

To do this in FCP it won't be perfect, you may want another solution. But if you want to achieve this in FCP then once you find the part you want to to slow down. You will need to break it into multiple copies. Reduce speeds...one at 90%, another @ 80%, another @ 70% or whatever ratio makes it work within the time you have to ultimately fill for your effect.

Then take the first reduced speed on your timeline (with waveforms turned on) and line it up to the real time audio in the audio track underneath. Viewing the waveforms you can see where the audio ends and that's your reference point. Shorten your reduced speed audio to the point where you want the edit to take place. Then drag the audio on top of the intitial audio track. You then repeat this with each and every speed reduction. Once completed put an audio cross fade (+3db) between all your edits. It's not perfect and it will take a little bit of editing time, but you might be suprized at the results.

    hi,
i am testing an upgrade from SPS2003 (SP2) to MOSS 2007 (RTM Enterprise). the installation goes fine and i selected 'gradual upgrade'. the prescan tool does not report any issues andthe configuration wizard runs fine as well. MOSS 2007 is up and running and i can create sites etc.
however, when i try to initiate the gradual upgrade process through "Site content upgrade status" in Operations, the page says: "There is nothing associated with this server farm that can be upgraded".
i have also tried to start the upgrade with stsadm and i have the same problem. stsadm returns: "No web application from a previous version of SharePoint matches the URL: [myserverurl]"
SPS2003 is running on port 80 on the server and is still functioning. the WSS 2.0 Virtual Server List still shows the2003 virtual server (version 6.0.2.8117) and does not show any problems.
any idea why MOSS does not see the 2003 portal?

    DB:3.39:2007 Upgrade Can Not Find 2003 Portal/Site 33

    Awesome solution!

I was banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why my old site didn't show up in the upgrade page...

I went and looked in the database, and sure enough... the original site was setup with an IIS description of Default Web Site, and somewhere down the road I'd changed the name of it to Sharepoint (probably when I added some more virtual websites here and there).

That's a really annoying bug... glad someone figured it out.

To make future google searches easier (I sort of stumbled on this thread):

Sharepoint SPS 2003 migration upgrade to MOSS 2007 fails - site content upgrade status shows empty list of URL's, gives an error of nothing associated

Resolution in this case was to look in the old config database SPS01_Config_db in the PortalURL's table, and the value in the Name column is what it expects the IIS site to be named.  If you've renamed that website since you installed sps 2003, just name it back to what shows up in the db, maybe do an IISRESET for good measure, and voila, the site content upgrade status page now lists your URL!  Hooray!

stsadm –o import –url http://server/site -nofilecompression -haltonwarning -haltonfatalerrorOr should the -o upgrade process be used?stsadm.exe -o upgrade -sidebyside -reghost -url http://server/site or -sitelistpath sites XML fileTo add user groups to the site collection:stsadm -o adduser -url http://server/site -group Group1 although this doesn't really help achieve what I am looking for.I suppose the groups could be created then use stsadm to plop them into the groups.  But if I take the time to create the groups, I might as well just add them at that point.eric

Click on the mask in the adjustment layer. That image is now your target and ant editing you do will only affect the mask. Probably the best option is to just draw a new gradient. The gradient will become the new mask for that layer and immediately change the underlying layer(s). Keep experimenting with the gradient tool until the image looks right.

You can also do a Levels adjustment to the mask.

It is depend on your current environment, user expectation, customized contents,...
    A few possibilities:
1-Create the new environment, copy the old KBs over network, backup the lists in Excel, and recreate them in the new environment.
2-Run the upgrade tool in 2003 SharePoint, backup the database, restore in 2007 environment, and add to your 2007 farm.
(the upgrade detection tool can be found the MOSS cd. )

3- upgrade the 2003 to 2007, backup your databases, restore in 2007 environment and add to your farm.

In the past two weeks, I've started getting a blinking send led on my Motorola SB5120 Modem. The only way I've found to recover is to power cycle the modem. This occurs about once every couple of days. After the modem is power cycled, internet connectivty is good ( until this condition occurs again )

I've had this modem for over 4 years, and I've not made any changes to my cable wiring, for a long time.

The modem power levels are as follows:
    Downstream
    Value

    Frequency
    729000000 Hz

    Signal to Noise Ratio
    37 dB

    QAM
    QAM256

    Network Access Control Object

    ON

    Power Level
    0 dBmV

    Upstream
    Value

    Channel ID
    6

    Frequency
    33000000 Hz

    Ranging Service ID
    4171

    Symbol Rate
    2.560 Msym/s

    Power Level
    45 dBmV
Which I believe are ok as described in the Troubleshooting post on this message board.

I've checked the coax connections and cables and they look good.

The logs show a failed sw upgrade: PROG: SW upgrade Failed in gradual download

Any suggestions on how to "fix" this condition?

    Any help would greatly appreciated.

DB:3.29:Gradual Upgrade For Moss Sp1 sk

Hello AllI had read numerous articles relating to an gradual upgrade for that of installing WSS SP1 and MOSS SP1 on a server farm.  Now we have some 1TB worth of content, spread across 20 content databases.I am finding it difficult to understand how to undertake a gradual upgrade, articles seem to relate to the WSS 2 to WSS 3 upgrade.I need a means to ensure that the downtime on an upgrade in services packs (by running the sharepoint products and technologies configuration wizard) is not excessive and suggestion are that gradual is the way to go.  We have some content database which are some 96Gb in size. How would i undertake this upgrade which having the least downtime? Thanks in advanceAndrew exmoor1

DB:3.29:Gradual Upgrade For Moss Sp1 sk

Too bad gradual upgrade is only working from WSS 2 or SPS 2003. We have 300 GB content which takes several days to upgrade (without using the multiple farm upgrade process which seems quite a hassle to configure) and it would be very nice if we could upgrade this from WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 to SP1 using the gradual upgrade approach. Is there a way to still tweak Sharepoint into doing this? Maybe there is a way using a slipstreamed WSS 3.0 + SP1 installation source? Or is it possible to set up a new farm under the existing URL, publish the old farm under a temporary URL and manually add redirection pages to the new farm's content databases while the content is being upgraded?

Customer has UM ver. 4.0(2), off-box EX5.5. They want to add an EX2003 server to begin a gradual migration of their email users. I hear the schema changes for EX2003 will break Unity as is. Is this true? They have purchased a replacement server and the goal is to upgrade them to 4.0(5) on this server. My plan would be to install the new server (new name, IP) to ver. 4.0(2), DiRT import, upgrade to 4.0(5). They can then extend schema, install EX2003, then I run Mess. Store Cfg. Wizard to change message store.

Soliciting comments from anyone who has been there. Thanks!

    DB:3.21:Unity 4.0(2) And Ex2003 Schema Change x1

    Hi,

I'm not sure that any of the schema changes necessitated by Unity would break Unity per se. However, if there are multiple versions of Exchange with Unity subscribers' mailstores on them, then Unity must be partnered with the most recent version. In this case if there are Unity subscriber mailboxes on Exchange 5.5, Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 all in the same AD domain, Unity should be partnered with the Exchange 2003 server.

The tested and supported method of what I think you are trying to accomplish is covered in this link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_upgrade_guides_chapter09186a00806cb90c.html

I think your general plan should work, if after you perform the upgrade to Unity 4.0.5, you follow the link above to cover the Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 upgrade (as it relates to Unity's connecting to Exchange).

It wouldn't hurt to take another DiRT back up after the upgrade to 4.0.5.

    I hope this helps.

    Sziasztok!

    -SPS 2003-on content database detach

    új farm:
-SPS 2003 install, alap config DB létrehozása
-régi content db-k felcsatolása (ezzel elvileg megkapom a régi SPS 2003 tükörképét? sosem csináltam ilyet)
    -gradual upgrade MOSS 2007-re

    Hi

I am in the process of testing a Gradual Upgrade from SharePoint services 2.0 to 3.0.
We have only one front end web server connecting to a SQL server 2005 back end.
I have 3 SharePoint Services 2.0 sites. 2 with content databases of about 20Gb and the other much smaller at about 350mb. All the sites have there own IP addresses.

I have ran the Prescan.exe on the Webserver and all was OK with that.
I installed sharePoint services 3.0 choseing to do a Gradual Upgrade and then ran the configuration Wizard where I chose to Create a New Server Farm

All of that seemed to go OK and the wizard finished. I then opened the SharePoint Services 3 Administration console and went to the Operations Tab Upgrade and Migration section and clicked on Site Content Upgrade status.

The first thing I noticed was that only 2 of my 3 sites were showing. Which leads to my first question.

How do I get the site that is not showing to appear in the Administration Console?

I then proceeded to upgrade the first of the 2 sites that were showing in the administration console. The Upgrade seemed to go OK and I can browse all the new upgraded site. However I can not connect to the old sharepoint services 2 site usingthe URL that was deffined during the upgrade which was the IP address of the old site wiuth a new port number. (http://192.168.2.14:42145). I get an error message which says Service Unavailable

So the second question is how do I browse the old SharePoint services 2.0 site.

The next issue is that when trying to upgrade the next site from the Admin console I get an error that :

The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint. You must select another port or hostname

I am starting the upgrade by clicking on the Begin Upgrade link under Operations Tab Upgrade and Migration section and Site Content Upgrade status. And clicking the link Begin upgrade oppsite my site. I am filling in all the relevant detail. We dont use Host Headers so I leave that blank. I created a new Application Pool with a configurable username and password. However when I click OK I then get the error message. The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint. You must select another port or hostname

I have tried the procedure several times with the same result.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for any or all of these issues.

    Thank you.

Ok, so Sony say they will be running both the 3000 and Go side by side and that the Go is not a replacement for the 3000. They also said they were working on a 'good will program'. So, how long before we see UMD releases dwindling dramatically, and the gradual fazing out of the 3000? What happens if the Go doesn't sell as they have expected (and with a fair backlash against the Go this is a possibility)? Do you think they will force us to upgrade by dropping support for the 3000?

I have downloaded and installed about three different hotfixes from Microsoft:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932091AND: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934525AND: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934790None of these fix the problem. Finally, I just decided to connect to the SQL server that is hosting the configuration database and see if the stored porcedure (dbo.proc_getObjectsByClass) was indeed missing and YES... it IS MISSING. So, I must assume the error message is valid. My question is Why is it missing? or Does anyone know what the heck is going on?. This upgrade is driving me nuts.Any input is greatly appreciated!Shayne

I have a new Windows 2003 server setup for testing the gradual upgrade process from sharepoint 2.0.  When I run the Sharepoint 3.0 install there is no perform a gradual upgrade option as described in the MS technet article - http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/WSS/en/library/b9490b1a-45de-45fd-9f4c-754dab1383e61033.mspx?mfr=true

    Thanks!!

DB:3.02:Gradual Upgrade Tab Not Showing During Wss 3.0 Install 87

    Hello Anonymous
We had the same problem.  We never really found a solution but received this advice on another forum.

We found the problem, but there is no solution. The problem is that we had installed WSS on the server first and then upgraded to SPS. Apparently, one of these installations used MS SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE) instead of the full SQL. I was told by Microsoft that only the full version of SQL will allow the use of the gradual upgrade option. If you look in the Add/Remove Programs, you can tell if MSDE is installed because your SQL install will have (Sharepoint) in parentheses.  We have changed our plan and chosen to just do an in-place upgrade, since converting this is really time consuming and difficult.
We decide to slick back to a clean install of windows, re-install SPS 2003, put in our branding, then install SPS 2007

DB:3.01:How To Do An Upgrade To Moss2007 To New Environment And Retain Url 19

Current environment is WSS 2.0 on single server named ATeam and SP environment is http://ATeam.  SQL is on separate clustered server.

We would like to migrate to MOSS 2007 with the following goals:

    1)  Move to new hardware (2 FE servers behind an F5) and an application server.
    2)  Retain URL of http://ATeam
    3)  Reorganize structure of environment (too many sub-sites under the wrong parent, etc).

Initially when the retaining of the current URL was not a requirement we were going to do a content migration using a 3rd party tool so we could move sites one at a time to their proper location and users would have a new URL to go to.

However, management is insisting that we keep the same URL.  We could do a gradual upgrade (after renaming the server so it doesn't match the URL name, moving it behind the F5 and some other things) but it means going to WSS 3.0 and then to MOSS 2007.  I would really like to have a fresh environment.

I can't figure out an easy way to accomplish the URL redirection when moving sites one at a time to this new environment.  Any suggestions or white papers you could direct me to?

    Thanks.

DB:3.01:How To Do An Upgrade To Moss2007 To New Environment And Retain Url 19

Hi, I am a little confused, is your problem maintaining the URL temporarily while you migrate from WSS2.0 to MOSS, or is the problem once its all over to MOSS, using the same server URL?

If its the same server URL problem, then you can simply create an Alternate Access Mapping via Central Admin, Operations to have the name ATeam and then simply point DNS to your new server.

If its the other problem, let me know and I can make suggestions.

We performed a gradual upgrade from SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2007 without any major issues or errors. Since we applied the SSL certificate to the site we are experiencing the following problems:
       i)  When trying to access the document library folders through HTTPS:
it redirects the it to the local SharePoint server
We have already tried out alternate mapping and it hasn’t worked. Apart from document library and folders everything else works. The way we can access the document library or folders is via explorer view or manually change the url to https://sharepoint site rest remains the same.

DB:2.99:Sharepoint Http And Https Issues xd

Hope this may be help you out...I had the same issue but its not after migration.Basically you just change your public URL in Alternate Access Mappings to HTTPS.Then you go to the properties on your site in IIS and change the TCP port to something other than port 80. I changed mine to port 8001.Now create a new web site and select the same IP as your SharePoint site and enter the host name as the “host header”. (I’m not sure this is required or why it would be…)Now go to the “Home Directory” tab of your new site on port 80 and select “A redirection to a URL” and enter the HTTPS address of the SharePoint site. Now go to your SharePoint site using HTTPS and open the properties. Select the Directory Security tab and click Edit in the Secure Communications section. Check the “Require SSL” and “Require 128-bit encryption”.
You should now be able to go to any address on your site using HTTP and it will automatically forward the browser to the same address using HTTPS.Nemil !!!Gajjar

If I do the gradual upgrade will my link to the databases in Sqlserver 2000 be kept by the upgrade and can these databases be used for the new MOSS 2007 site, or will I have to re-configure the connection to the database server after the upgrade? Thanks,J.

DB:2.98:Gradual Upgrade Sp 2003 To Moss 2007 xm

    Hi

You can use your original database SQL 2000 after upgrade. During the upgrade process, you need to reconfigure the connection to the database server. When you upgrade please refer to the document below which have very detailed steps:
Install and configure Office SharePoint Server for a gradual upgrade
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262073.aspx

There are some important steps that I want to emphasize:
    1.         Make sure you run the prescan.exe on the production SPS2003 environment. The prescan.log should indicate 0 errors and 0 warnings. If there are any errors and warnings make sure to resolve them first.
    2.         When installing MOSS 2007 on the production server, make sure you use “Do not upgrade at this moment” option.
    3.         Make sure you take all possible backups of SPS 2003 environment like content databases and any customizations.
    4.         Content Database Migration does not have any specific time frame defined, so we have to wait for it to finish completely on its own with the given resources (hardware and software configurations)

    Hope this helps.

I tried switching back using the wrench icon and then switch back. But it isn't of any use to me. So now what? Also I was able to go to this website so to solve the issue:
The solution is to force opt-out using this URL:

It resolves the situation on a temporary bases. So what do I do now?

Correct - upgrading from WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007 is fairly straightforward. You install MOSS 2007 on top of WSS 3.0 on each server and the new features are installed.

If you want the new MOSS 2007 features on your existing sites, you will have to enable them using the 'Enable features on existing sites' page in Central Admin.

    Hello,
We are going to pilot SPS 2003 (because we are waiting for funding for MOSS 2007 CAL's), and I need some help clarifying my understanding of the WSS 2.0 and 3.0. Can someone help to clarify the accuracy of the following or comment on it?

Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 can be run with WSS 3.0.
It is probably a good idea to start the SPS 2003 pilot using WSS 3.0 versus using WSS 2.0 and then upgrading to 3.0.
Upgrading to from SPS 2003 with WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007 is a typical upgrade path. (granted there are different upgrading type like inplace, gradual...).

Am I looking at this correctly? Any advice? I'm just getting my feet wet, and I want to think about this correctly to make life easier when we upgrade to MOSS.

    Thanks,
    Jimmy

DB:2.94:Please Help To Clarify Some Sharepoint Jargon And Questions. 8f

Be aware that SPS 2003 is not the advanced version of WSS 3.0.  MOSS 2007 is the advanced version of WSS 3.0

SPS 2003 can run with WSS 3.0 (I believe), but MOSS 2007 cannot.
SPS 2003 should not be started with WSS 3.0, since they are extremely different from each other, however, WSS 3.0 would be a good pilot for MOSS 2007 (especially, if you are waiting for licensing).
Again, the SPS 2003 environment is completely different, so no.  Upgrading WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007 is a natural path.  You just backup your sites, uninstall WSS 3.0, install MOSS 2007, and then (once MOSS 2007 has been configured) you restore your WSS 3.0 sites.
If you want to look at this correctly, take out the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 bits.  SPS 2003 is the previous version product, and should not be used in a pilot scenario.  Only time SPS 2003 should be considered is if you have already deployed it and need to move content into the new environment (MOSS 2007).

DB:2.89:Timeout Error During Gradual Upgrade - Last Content Database 8s

The solution turned out to be relatively simple.  I grew the transaction log for the WSSUS_ database to 70GB which effectively stoped the autogrow thrashing.  After doing this, the process completed as expected.  The trick is that you have to run the script:
The catch is that you have to run it after the WSSUS database has been created.  I simply watched in Managment Studio until I saw the database in the list and ran the script.  It took 13 minutes for my hardward to execute the query.
    ALTERDATABASE [WSSUP_Temp_675cfeec-6d15-414a-aae2-a3deabbbf01b] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'WSSUP_Temp_675cfeec-6d15-414a-aae2-a3deabbbf01b_log', SIZE = 73400320KB , FILEGROWTH = 10240KB )
We also changed the default file location to a local disk rather than a SAN connected volume.  This may have had some impact, but did not solve the problem.

We curre currently have WSS 2 set up in an Extranet scenario, we also have SPS 2003 set up as an Intranet, another Intranet hosted on CMS, and a public site containing standard marketing info. It appears that we should be able to consolidate all of this on MOSS but its not clear to me what the best approach should be and a few questions come to mind.

What kind of issues do we need to look out for as we implement a gradual upgrade process for the site collections on the existing Extranet server?
How should we approach upgrading the existing SPS 2003 farm and integrating our existing extranet into the navigation and search structure?
How should we migrate content from CMS and upgrade exising SPS 2003, what is the recommended sequence
What are the options for migrating content from our existing public site (that is not SharePoint based) into a new MOSS Publishing Portal?

Hi, planning a migration of 2 exchange 2010 SP2environments into a 3rd brand new infrastructure running exchange 2013. At present as I understand it I MUST upgrade the 2010 SP2 to SP3 before I can move mailboxes.
However, this is causing headaches internally with BES upgrade, Netbackup upgrade to support exchange 2010 SP3. So I am wondering what my options are - is there anyway to perform a phased/gradual migration using Quest tools to the exchange 2013 without
having to upgrade to 2010 SP3??
Both 2010 SP2 environments use DAG. If we MUST upgrade to 2010 SP3 first, am I correct in thinking that the DAG mail databases do not need upgrading to 2013 format? Just the exchange? Can I move them to the 2nd DAG server, upgrade the 1st DAG serverthen
move them to the 1st and upgrade the 2nd?

    Help appreciated.
    Regards
    Nathan

    DB:2.84:Exchange 2010 Sp2 Exchange 2013 In New Forest sf

Hi - can you explain in more detail? As we will be creating a brand new forest with 1 new domain totally separate to the existing forests/domains and migrating everything in to that new forest.

The new infrastructure will not be connected to the existing ones in any way other than 2way trusts.

A cross forest migration using the Exchange tools will still require Exchange 2010 SP3. I was referring to a complete new forest without Exchange 2010 installed in it all. If you want to use 3rd party tools as you mention above, you will need to contact
the vendor directly for information on what is required.

    DB:2.80:Wss 3.0 Gradual Migration fm

    Greetings,

We are having trouble migrating from 2.0 using a simple server farm setup. That being, two frontend server and an sql server. The problem is that the upgrade, on the frontend servers is only taking place on the server that Central Admin is running on. If I check the IIS web sites on the other server, nothing is happening. The 2.0 farm on the same servers is running without a problem and I can access those sites on either server without a problem, but after the migration only one of the servers has the new 3.0 sites listed in IIS.

Here are the steps I am using

    1. I install the binaries on both servers, setup as a gradual migration.
    2. Create the config, admin , search and temp upgrade dbs.
    3. Run this command on server A:

psconfig -cmd configb -cxreate -server servername -database dbname -user domainaccount -password pw -admincontentdatabase dbname

    This command executes without error.

    4. Then I run the wizard on server B and attach to existing farm.
    5. The wizard completes, the central admin site opens on server B and everything is listed correctly on the home page.
    6. At this point, the central admin service is stopped on server A. Microsoft says that central admin can only be running on one server.
    7. Initially I would run the migration and it would complete without error but the pair site would not be created on server B.
    8. Thinking that the central admin should actually be running on server A I start it and do another migration but the same thing happens. Only on server B, the one running central admin, does the pair site get created in IIS.

An interesting fact is that if I create a new site in the 2.0 farm and then migrate it, everything works. The new pair site is created on both servers and I can access the migrated site from either.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I think I will uninstall 3.0, excute steps 1-3 and then run the wizard on both servers.

If anyone has a suggestion or answer please let me know.

Also, I have an SRX opened with Microsoft and they have been working on it for over a week. They have watched me do the install, execute the psconfig command and run the wizard. They say it should be working, but it doesn't.

Hi ,I have 10 sites in sharepoint 2003 ,created using custom site defination.I have migrated all using gradual migration approach.Following actions coverd by me during migration 1.) Same layout/custom site defination created in 2007.2.) Same id assigned in webtemp*.xml that exist in 2003 custom site defination.3.) Upgradation file has been created and deployed in upgrade\config file .After upgradation sites are still showing v2 layout and pointing list folders available in custom site defination of 2003.I have gone through the WSS SDK and come to know that if upgradation path is missing this kind of problems comes.Help me to sort out this problem . Thanks ,Sourabh Khatri.

Finally i got the solution . The problem was in upgrade file . In upgrade file Toversion attribute should be same as custom site defintion revision attribute in project element. If it will missmatch migration process will not give any error but still using old v2 defintion.  Sourabh khatri.

Hi,Recently we have changed from JBoss 3.0.4 - JBoss 3.2.2 RC3, to use the optimistic-locking ejb policy. However since the upgrade we have gradually been noticing more and more high memory usage and sluggish behaviour of JBoss over periods of usually around a day or more.Generally what occurs is we reboot / restart jboss and redeploy and then approximately 8 hours later (and relatively continual use) we see memory usage rise to around 800megs (this has been a gradual increase) and performance of the overall system falls down.We were hoping that someone else has seen a similar problem and has either a solution or could suggest something for us to look into?cheers--Aaron

I think jmemprof is a good open source one. JProbe is good. I like OptimizeIt but also costs. We actually ordered OptimizeIt and ended up using it frequently but jmemprof was handy while we waited for delivery, and turned out to be quite powerful. I'm regretting a bit that we shelled out now since we did solve our problems with jmemprof. YMMV.I would try to isolate the issue if you can by doing some broad sweeps. The difficulty will lie in being able to reproduce the issue. Some things you may not be able to track so be aware that stored procedures can also have some unexpected effects. I think from past forum issues, there are quite a few that went back to changes in the JDBC drivers.

I have a Lenovo T500 that was rebuilt and came with the a package of Lenovo drivers. The computer came with Vista and I bought the student edition of Windows 7 and did an upgrade. Since I did this upgrade my computer freezes once or twice a day, on or
off battery power. At first I thought it only occured when my battery power was low (below 25%) and a friend suggested that I update the BIOS. I tired this and it frooze the next day.

Sometimes the freeze is gradual. It does not appear to happen until I try to save or exit a program. Other times I come back to my computer and find it frozen. Even more rarely I get a black screen saying that it cannot find my hard drive. It my internet explorer
is open it generally dumps all of my cookies.

I am considering doing a clean install of Windows 7. Is there some other options I should consider or any thoughts on what is causing this?

DB:2.80:Cannot Figure Out Why My Computer Randomly Freezes 8s

Make sure all your device drivers are updated.
Make sure your Antivirus is compatible with Windows 7.

Try doing a repair installation with your Windows 7 DVD:
    1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD
    2. Restart your computer
    3. When asked if you want to boot from your DVD drive, do so.
    4. Choose your language, click Next.
    5. Click 'Repair your computer'
    6. Select operating system you want to repair.

    DB:2.80:Atm To Pos Migration s7

    Hi all.

We have an ATM network based on Alcatel devices relaying over a SDH network with STM1 links. We are thinking about migrating it with Cisco equipment. First we'd need to increase our links from STM1 to STM4, and on the other hand we want to eliminate the ATM encapsulation in order to minimize overhead. Can you give us any recommendation? Is there any kind of interface which supports both ATM and POS? (to implement a gradual upgrade)

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:2.80:Atm To Pos Migration s7

    Thanks Phillip.

The problem we see is during the migration. There will be a moment that we have an ATM/SDH interface in one side and a POS interface in the other one. Then we want to know if it is possible to end the ATM PVCs in the POS interface. In other words, to configure atm encapsulation on a Cisco POS interface. We have seen that it is possible to configure frame-relay, hdlc and ppp.

    Thanks in advance.

DB:2.80:Migrating A Custom Site Definition - Master Page Not Applied xk

    Hi!

I have a custom site definition in moss 2007 to which I wish to migrate sites from the corresponding 2003 definition. My new definition is working properly when I create a new site based on it. I have also constructed an upgrade definition file to map the lists and files in the definitions.I am performing a gradual upgrade but when I migrate sites, the master page for the new definition is not applied, so I get no styles wither since I've linked to them from there. Also, all webparts and lists just end up in the right column.

Anybody got ideas to why this happens, my new site def functions just as wanted when I mereley create sites and the master page is specified in onet.xml. Also, an interesting fact is that if i do not specify:

          FromProductVersion        BeginFromSchemaVersion        EndFromSchemaVersion
         ToSchemaVersion

in my upgrade xml, I get an error that my list templates are invalid.
    Ideas anyone?

DB:2.80:Migrating A Custom Site Definition - Master Page Not Applied xk

Ok, now I solved one issue, the reason for that all my webparts and lists ended up in the right column was that the ID's of the webpartzones didn't match in default.aspx.

But the major problem ist still that my new site definition uses it's own master page, which is provisioned in Onet.xml through the Module File tags.
This doesn't help when migrating, my masterpage is nowhere to be seen, and I get a default.master instead.

DB:2.80:Convert Several Word 2002 Macros To Office 2010 Macros p7

    Hi All,

My office is upgrading from Office XP to Office 2010. We have a dozen different macros written for Office XP. They are all Word document. Each produces a different form. Some have only about a dozen fields to populate. Others have up to 100 different options.

These macros run great in Word XP but crash when run in 2010 with a variety of VB errors. All our users are running Windows 2007 with the latest service pack.

Is there an easy method to upgrade these macros to 2010 format, without having to learn enough VB programming to recode all of them? I have an MSDN subscription and one idea was to try a gradual upgrade - from Word XP to Word 2003, then Word 2007, then Word
2010 - just alot of testing VMs to set up...

    Thank you,

    Mike C.

DB:2.80:Convert Several Word 2002 Macros To Office 2010 Macros p7

All - thank you for your help.

I am not a VB programmer - I do some light C# programming, and some shell scripting (bash, perl, python) but I've never learned Visual Basic (VB).

So - my question here must be - is there a quick-and-easy way to convert these macros (none of them work error-free in Word 2010) without my having to learn VB? Or, can I learn enough VB part-time over a few weeks to fix this myself?

    Thanks

I am currently working on a project upgrading a SharePoint 2003 site to MOSS 2007.  The original 2003 site is a single-server environment.  I have a virtual machine running that matches the environment of the 2003 server.  I successfully used the SharePoint Backup and Restore Utility to move the site from the original server to the virtual machine.  I ran prescan.exe without any errors, and I am now attempting to do a gradual upgrade to MOSS on the virtual machine.I successfully installed MOSS 2007 on the virtual machine and selected gradual upgrade as my method of choice.  I then started the upgrade via Central Admin, starting with the root site.  After the upgrade process finished, I went to the site and got an error Invalid list template.  I tried going to http://server/_layouts/settings.aspx to get to the site settings page for the root site, and got the infamous Unknown error page.I tried upgrading another site (underneath the root site), and I also got the Invalid list template error.  However, I was able to access the site settings page by manually entering in the /_layouts/settings.aspx URL.Also, I went to the Web Part Maintenance page for the second site by manually entering .../sitename/default.aspx?contents=1.  I noticed here that all of the ListViewWebParts have Untitled as their title, which is not the case in the 2003 environment.  All of those web parts have titles in 2003.In the log files in the 12 hive, I am getting errors that read Failed to find ListTemplate tag corresponding to ID '104', tried both onet.xml for site definition ID '20' language '1033' and global site definition. Operation failed. and Failed to determine the setup path of the list schema for list template 104.  There are also errors like this for list IDs 103 and 106.  From what I can tell, these IDs correspond to the Links, Events, and Announcements lists, which are default SharePoint lists as far as I know.  I have scoured the onet.xml files, and I have yet to find a list template with ID 103, 104, or 106 that does not correspond to Links, Events, and Announcements.So... any ideas?  I've googled all the relevant terms I can think of and tried all the solutions I found, but nothing has worked. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Yes it would be.
You could also create a Content location boundary which is not overlapping and install the sccm client using SMSSITECODE=xxx then the client will be assigned and find it's content without any risk for overlapping.

    Hi silkbi

The FTTPoD offering is only available to FTTC areas and gives them the opportunity to have true fibre to the premises.

There was an initial list of exchanges named for the start of the rollout of FTTPoD. This may have changed of course. Other forum members may have found different information.

You can also check if FTTPoD is available on your local exchange / cab using this tool

I'm on the Tunbridge Wells exchange - FTTPoD is available but as yet not orderable. Not sure when that may be but you may want to follow postings on this thread also.

DB:2.70:Problems With Gradual Upgrade -- Site In Use cz

I am upgrading from 2.0 to 3.0, using the Gradual Upgrade process. The installation for 3.0 was successful, and so was the first gradual upgrade. The problem is I have 4 more 2.0 sites, and now none of them succeed when I try to choose them for upgrade; instead, I get this error: The IIS Web Site you have selected is in use by SharePoint.  You must select another port or hostname. Each of the 2.0 sites is a unique IP address, and when choosing to Begin Upgrade for a site, I use a different port when it asks me for the original's new port. It still gives me this error.Shaun

Hi Daniel,I did already check that KB -- in my case, no website already exists on the same port. Each of the existing Web Sites have unique IPs assigned to them. Thanks,ShaunShaun

DB:2.69:Help My Css Is Missing From All Wss 3.0 Sites sd

Any help is appreciated...I can't find anything in my searching to help solve this problem.  I upgraded to WSS 3.0 using the gradual upgrade method on an NT domain.  I leveraged the PSCONFIG -CMD CONFIGDB tool to create the new database.  After the db finished creation I finished the sharepoint products and technologies wizard and the new central admin page has no theme (just text).  What did I miss.  Please help!

DB:2.69:Help My Css Is Missing From All Wss 3.0 Sites sd

    Hi,
Seems the core.css file is not referred or missing.

Please check the HTML code of the central admin page.
There should be a link tag that referred to the core.css like:
    link rel=stylesheet type=text/css href=/_layouts/1033/styles/core.css?rev=5msmprmeONfN6lJ3wtbAlA%3D%3D/

If you cannot find the tag, please reset the site by using Reset to site definition in Central Administration Site Settings.

If the link tag is existed, please check whether the core.css file is existed in %\Program Files%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033\STYLES\

If not, please reinstall you SharePoint product, or copy the file from another server.

Let me know the result if possible.

DB:2.69:Migration From Sp 2003 To Moss 2007 dx

    Hi,

I will need to migrate from SP 2003 to MOSS 2007. After reading lot of documentations and forums about that. it seems that Gradual Upgrade is the best way to perform that. I understood it requires that MOSS 2007 has to be side by side with Sharepoint 2003. It is necessery ? Because i would like to put the 2 different versions of sharepoint on 2 distinct servers.
Do you have any step by step tutoral to perform a Gradual Upgrade and a gradual upgrade with shared services ??
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

DB:2.69:Sps 2003 To Moss Gradual Upgrade. Cannot Upgrade Root. Error Says There Is An In-Place Upgrade Running But Its Not. m3

I am attempting a test run of a gradual upgrade on our SPS 2003 servers. I have MOSS installed and I am now trying to upgrade the root site. When I try to upgrade the site I do not get any errors in the Upgrade.log file and I get this error in the event log.The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPUpgradeJobDefinition (ID ef512912-e64f-4b0e-9e57-4fe5637af18b) threw an exception. More information is included below.
A gradual upgrade timer job is being stopped, because an build-to-build in-place upgrade is detected. Running the gradual upgrade timer job will interfere with the in-place upgrade. Please try again later when the in-place upgrade is finished
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.I never ran an in-place upgrade! How could one be running? I there a way to reset this? Where would I look?UPDATE: After not being able to find any more information about the error I tried to do the upgrade using PSCONFIG.EXE. I ran this command: PSCONFIG.EXE -cmd upgrade -force –sidebysideAnd that actually wrote the error to the Upgrade.log.[SPManager] [ERROR] [4/27/2009 1:52:04 PM]: Migrate [SPWebApplication Name=SPWEB_Pair Parent=SPWebService] failed.[SPManager] [ERROR] [4/27/2009 1:52:04 PM]: The solution googlewebpart.cab has already been deployed to http://SPWEB/. I had never deployed them there but the upgrade was trying to. I could also not remove them from the SPS2003 environment. I ended up removing all the web parts from MOSS using stsadm and then running PSCONFIG.exe again. Unfortunately now it is upgrading all my WSS sites. I didn't want to do that yet.

DB:2.69:Sps 2003 To Moss Gradual Upgrade. Cannot Upgrade Root. Error Says There Is An In-Place Upgrade Running But Its Not. m3

Lambert,Thanks for the info but I am positive I did not choose the in-place upgrade during the MOSS install. I am working in my test environment so this is not impacting production.I went back and restored my test environment and then did the gradual upgrade again only this time I removed all the 3rd party web parts before starting. The upgrade process ran fine without errors. I have my steps documented specifically so I know I did everything the same the second time. The only change was removing the web parts.I would have had to remove the web parts anyway because none of them will work in MOSS.
