    Hi,

    I am experiencing the following error on a Oracle client PC:
    ORA-12571 : TNS Packet Writer Failure. The client PC cannot access any Oracle database, even by using Sql.
    The networking environment seems to be 100 % OK.
    Analysing the listener trace on the server did not help, nor did re-installing the Oracle client.

    Any idea about the problem ?

    Many thanks
    Christian

    Hi Christian,

    Could you identify that issue?
    I have the same problem, but without any network connection. (stand alone server as testarea)

    DB:4.18:Help - Newbie - Getting "Ora-12571: Tns: Packet Writer Failure" Error 9k

    Hi all,

    Not sure where to post this, so trying for the general forum to start...

    I have also searched and read all the forums for help on this already as well the Oracle documentation and anything I could find from several on-line searches, etc.

    I have Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition and Oracle Forms 6i installed on Win2K. Everything worked fine when it was just Oracle 8i running, ie: connecting to the database in SQLPlus Worksheet, but when I try and connect to the database in the datablock wizard in forms I get the ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure error!

    Don't tell me to re-install, I've done that like 6 times already. I've check the tnsnames.ora files and tried that fix already. I don't know what else to try short of fdisk and redoing everything from scratch again, but I don't have time for that as this machine is used daily for other tasks.

    Any help or suggestions are appreciated!!!

    Thx in advance!
    Michelle.

    PS: Note to Oracle support staff if you are listening (pardon the pun). Your one line of help for ORA-12571 in the existing support files is rather similar to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy's info for Earth... After seeing how many people have posted about this problem and how few resources or real answers there are out there, you might want to consider updating the info on this error, because is deserves something more than "mostly harmless"!

    Hi All,
    ORA-12571 is a network error. Whenever network is heavily loaded ORACLE throws this error. This is a bug in win NT 4. Check which service pack are you using.
    This bug is been succesfully corrected by MICROSOFT and service pack has been released. Try to get service pack 6a. This service pack is released after service pack 6. This service pack will get from MICROSOFT website.

    I was also getting this error but everything calm.
    I recommended this to my SYS ADMIN and network guy done accordingly.

    I think it will definately solve your problem. For any query can contact me on goel_sumeet@yahoo.com.

    Friendly yours
    Sumeet Goel.

    First please check if Windows build-in backup feature works or not. Also check if there is any update or upgrade version of Symantec Backup Exec.
    Also test to restart Volume Shadow Copy Service and Microsoft exchange replication service and see if issue still exists.TechNet Subscriber Support in forum |If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com.

    I keep getting a TNS packet writer failure error when trying to connect to the database with any Forms apps.

    I followed the supplied installation instructions exactly but cannot resolve this problem. I first installed Forms Dev 6i R2 for Windows. I then installed Oracle 8i Personal. I created an entry in TNSNAMES.ORA with easy config. But I cannot get any of the builders, nor the SQL*Plus that came with the package, to connect to my database. I have no problem starting the SQL*Plus that was included in the 8i package, however.

    I read a few possible solutions on the newsgroups, and on here. Such as copying the TNSNAMES.ORA into both oracle home admin directories, renaming sqlnet.ora to .old. All with reboot, of course. Nothing is working. Listener is started, as well as other required services.

    I am running Windows 2000. All 8i components are v 8.1.7.

    Someone please help! Why do I keep getting this error?

    Thank you!

    Hi
    Please try

    suspend Storage Group copy (since the replication between nodes is already broken)have the drives on the passive node with same disk size as that of active. (recommended)Dismount the stores on Active node and discard the log file and .chk and mount the stores with new instance (backup works after this as per customer)Go ahead and reseed the database from active to passive using link
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124706(EXCHG.80).aspx (recommendation)
    Always use online backup from the passive node and not from active node. (recommended)

    Hi,

    This is usually due to an improper sqlnet.ora setting. Here are some possible causes and remedies:

    - Loose network cables. This error has been observed when there was a loose cable connection to the SCSI disk array (on an Oracle Parallel Server system). Related errors were also subsequently noted in the NT event log.
    - IP address conflict (Oracle 9.0.1).
    - Authentication services. One solution is to edit the sqlnet.ora file and change the line:

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    to
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)

    Try this solution.
    btw. on internet is too many articles reg this error.

    I use the Net 8 assistant to configure both archives but when I try to test my Names Service, the assistants shows me: Connecting...ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
    The test did not succeed.

    I don't think the problem is Names Service configuration

    Questions:
    Is the listener.ora which is damage o incorrect?
    Is the service Oracletnslistner the real problem?
    Is the database dedicated mode which is causing problems?

    The ACE was not designed to run captures( at least not at high level as a NAM for example) then the traces which we can take in the ACE does not capture neither probe traffic nor management traffc only load balancing traffic.

    TAC does not support customized scripts.

    If you need to check how the probes are behaving then you may need to run a simultaneous capture on the client PC and the server itself or if you have an ACE module then you can run a 10giga capture.

    DB:3.23:Can't Populate Blob... cf

    I'm using VB6, Oracle 8.1.6, The Oracle 8.1.6.2 OLE DB driver and ADO 2.5. I can populate all other fields in the table, but I can only put nulls in the BLOB. This occurs using OraOLEDB.Oracle as the provider.
    I get error: ORA-12571 TNS: Packet Writer Failure.

    But, if I go into Access 97 and link the Oracle table, then open it as an Access recordset, I have no problem writing text data to BLOB. Gotta be a driver problem.

    DB:3.23:Can't Populate Blob... cf

    Since you're using the Oracle OLE DB provider, I'd suggest that you post this question to the OLE DB forum.

    Note that I recently posted code that walks through BLOB and CLOB stuff to this forum-- I believe it contains both ODBC and OLE DB paths...

    DB:3.20:Windows Server Backup Failing On Sbs 2008 - Vss Errors, Event Log Errors... c1

    I have a client whose daily SBS backups have started to fail.

    The errors that are being generated are detailed below.

    Additionally VSSADMIN List Writers also has errors.

    They've tried a different backup drive and the same thing happens.

    Can anyone suggest any further troubleshooting I can do?

    Error reported by Windows Server backup:
    Failed - Creating the shared protection point on the source volumes failed.
    Detailed Error: The volume shadow copy operation failed with error 0x80042306.
    The volume of the backup was stopped before the backup started running.

    Errors reported by Event Viewer Backup Log:
    Event ID 9:
    Failed - Creating the shared protection point on the source volumes failed.
    Detailed Error: The volume shadow copy operation failed with error 0x80042306.

    Errors reported by Event Viewer System Log:
    Event ID 28:
    The Shadow Copy of volume C: could not be created due to a failure in creating the necessary on disk structures.

    I also ran VSSAdmin List Writers from command prompt which gave the following details:

    DB:3.20:Windows Server Backup Failing On Sbs 2008 - Vss Errors, Event Log Errors... c1

    The chkdsk /r process ran over night. No errors or problems reported in any of the 5 stages.

    I'm sure I've read somewhere before that Windows Server Backup on SBS 2008 needs access to a special area on the drive - might it be this?

    I guess I might have to call Microsoft on this one :(

    It seems the Virtual Server Writer calls into the exchange writer on the exchange guest and fails to prepare the exchange writer for backup and then fails the virtual server writer.  Is this supported?

    Officialy Exchange is not supported in an Virtual Production Environment see the following text and KB article:

    Neither Exchange 2007 nor Exchange 2007 SP1 is supported in production in a virtual environment. However, as stated previously, Microsoft Virtual Server is a good environment for training, labs, and demos. Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2007 SP1 are supported in production environments using only the 64-bit version of Exchange 2007, and currently neither Microsoft Virtual Server nor Microsoft Virtual PC supports 64-bit guest systems. Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2007 SP1 are also not supported in production in a virtual environment using virtualization software that is not Microsoft software. What do you mean about share folder? Do you backup the content of a share folder that is on a remote server? Or you are storing the backed up data to that share folder?

    Did you remove the SYSTEM group from the share permissions section or from the NTFS permission section?

    The SYSTEM account is used by most Windows services (via
    LocalSystem). Removing it won't prevent the Windows kernel from accessing the drive, but it might break some services that do it.

    As your post, you are using Windows Server 2008 R2 and this OS uses Windows Server Backup tool that replaces NTBackup in Windows Server 2003. What do you mean about the above bolded statement?

    DB:3.07:Windows Foundation 2008 Backup Failure jf

    Hello,

    I manage a Windows 2008 Foundation Server that I took over from another IT company. I manage services for them and one is backing
    up the system. The previous IT company used Acronis to backup the system. i have changed the server to adomaincontroller
    as it was just a file server before. I removed all the software from the previous It company and updated Windows to SP2 and then added a 750gb hard drive for their data. Here are the specs:

    HP Proliant ML310 g5p
    Intel Xeon E3210
    4GB Ram
    64bit
    250GB hard drive(2x) Mirrored(OS)
    750GB hard drive - simple(data)

    I bought three new 750GB external drives and added them for the backup location. All went well. After updating the system, I
    installed the backup feature and ran my first backup. The C:\ drive is backing up fine, but get an error on the F:\ drive where the company data files are. The error simply states Incorrect Function. The errors I got previously were related to providers
    and have since removed all instances of the Acronis via their website forums and now just get Incorrect Function when backing up the F:\ drive. I have reinstalled the feature as well as cleaned the registry, but the error persists. Not sure if this is an
    HP, Microsoft, or Drive issue and could use some help.

    When I run the vssadmin commmands, here is what I get:

    Cause: The report failed to complete and returned an error condition.

    Action: Check the report logfile in PAY_TOP/APPLOUT/xx.lg for reason for the failure.

    I don't see anything in $PAY_TOP/APPLOUT, it is all empty files. all of the worker processes completed except one worker process failed.
    i would like to restart the check writer. do i need to rollback the "check writer" alone before i restart the "Check Writer" ?

    Hi ..long back when i got same error ..my DBA gave me below update he solved the issue

    This was just an error of ommission; I forgot to restart the vnc server process after the last flashcopy was taken. The toolkit error has been documented in other defects several times, so there's no need to add more here.

    hoope u will understand this issue and as he mentioned tool kit error is common DBA error some where it must be documented how to get rid of this and hope fully the above steps will do

    vssadmin then lists the system state, IIS Metabase and WMI writers as failed... but everything works fine the following night without a reboot.
    I am working with EMC on this issue, but the answer to VSS issues for them in most cases is reboot. Since this is using the standard VSS writers MS VSS provider, I figure I'd run it by the technet community to see if anyone has any
    input.

    DB:3.04:Event 9001 - Log Is Not Available During Backups sj

    I've got a 2008 server that has a recurring issue with backups related the the SQL Server VSS writer.
    The errors seem to start with Event 9001

    The log for database 'xm8_27' is not available. Check the event log for related error messages. Resolve any errors and restart the database.
    Followed up with 3041

    BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE xm8_27. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
    Event 1 from SQL VDI

    Event 8193:

    SQL writer error: Unexpected error calling routine IClientVirtualDevice::GetCommand. hr = 0x80770004.
    I reboot, all is fine for a few days, backups work fine and then Boom, I start getting these errors again. I can't keep rebooting every few days, I need backups to be reliable. VSS in general seems to be fatally flawed, with a single minor error killing
    the entire system until a reboot, and not allowing ANY part of a backup to proceed due to one minor subsystem failure.

    Regarding the specific database listed, I was able to offline / online the DB which fixed the log referenced, and could then perform a manual BACKUP DATABASE successfully, but when I ran my full script that backs up all my databases,
    a different database had that exact same log error - a database that previously worked successfully a few minutes before. Offlining and onlining that one and I could run the database backup script successfully on all databases to completion, but the VSS writers
    are still Failed and I can't do a full server backup. This whole issue seems to hinge on something going wonky with the transaction log file - but I can't see exactly what.what could be wrong with SQL Server or the databases themselves that would cause the
    transaction logs to become randomly unavailable? The ONLY event log errors regarding SQL Server and the log occur during backups.

    The filesystem has been checked for errors, and the storage subsystem is all reporting fine with no errors.

    DB:3.04:Event 9001 - Log Is Not Available During Backups sj

    AutoClose was the problem.Ever since setting AutoClose to false, backups have worked flawlessly.

    It's clearly a bug that Autoclose causes these VSS failures. It would be nice if MSFT would address this in a patch. I've had to add in our monitoring system an alert for events regarding database logs becoming inaccessible.
    Thanks!

    Aloha!

    Thanks all for the time and effort give to my issue. I solved if by creating a new Listener with a different port and deleted the the old one. after which i edited the newly created Listener, change the port to the normal 1521 port, and everything works well.

    Once again thank you very much.

    I have faced this problem and for item level disk-to-disk you can only backup the Active Node and there is no other way around. I have had ticked with Symantec too. Even if you restart the problem you will see this again. The backup is pretty fast.

    I dont know if it is better to just patch around the ports that do not work, since the rest of the ports do, or if i should send the switch into cisco for repair, or just replace the switch since it is getting old?

    I dont like semi working equipment either. For now i need the ports, so i guess i will continue to run with it, until we upgrade.

    I have just installed Oracle 8i Enterprise on a Windows 2000 machine using all defaults for a typical installation. At the end of the installation, Net8 is successfully configured and then I follow the prompts for the creation of a database. It errors out during the Database Creation Process when "Initializing Database" with an ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure.

    Subsequent attempts to create a new database independently of the installation procedure generate the same error.

    I've tried downloading a new install zip file and installing again, with the same results.

    I'm stuck and would appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks.

    Hi all,
    i was installing Oracle 9.2 on XP(professional) machine.
    Oracle S/W installed successfully. but DBCA, while installing DATABASE gives error says "TNS Packet writer Failure".

    is this due to fact that i'm installing it on XP professional edition? is it necessory to have server for Oracle. but On Oracle CD's they have only mentioned OS versions like for NT/2000/XP. nothing specific about server or anything.

    i even searched on Google. but couldn't get proper info. most of the saying Netwrok problem. But i can connect to remote databse from this machine.

    anybody have faced this problem?

    Thanx in advance!

    Hi,
    1. Please check if it is caused by limited shadow copy storage space. Please set the [Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space] setting of the drive you are going to backup to Unlimited and see the result.
    2. Upgrade the driver/firmware of the disk controller to the latest version.
    3. Upgrade the Anti-Virus software (if any) to the latest version.

    DB:2.87:Icap Read Stalls And Disconnects Microblaze cs

    Hello,

    I'm trying to read-back the captured state of my Virtex-6 FPGA mounted on the ML-605 board. I'm trying to read this configuration via the ICAP AXI module in combination with the ICAP Linux driver. I've set the ICAP Fifo size to 256 for both the read and write FIFO as stated in the datasheet.

    I've updated the Linux driver for the Virtex-6 by adding the correct configuration register and the assignment of this register.

    static const struct config_registers v6_config_registers = {

    .CRC = 0,

    .FAR = 1,

    .FDRI = 2,

    .FDRO = 3,

    .CMD = 4,

    .CTL = 5,

    .MASK = 6,

    .STAT = 7,

    .LOUT = 8,

    .COR = 9,

    .MFWR = 10,

    .FLR = UNIMPLEMENTED,

    .KEY = UNIMPLEMENTED,

    .CBC = 11,

    .IDCODE = 12,

    .AXSS = 13,

    .C0R_1 = 14,

    .CSOB = 15,

    .WBSTAR = 16,

    .TIMER = 17,

    .BOOTSTS = 22,

    .CTL_1 = 24,

    };

    and

    } else if (!strcmp(family, "virtex6")) {

    regs = v6_config_registers;

    I connect to the board using the Xilinx SDK - XDS console. I program the board with my bit-file and then load Linux using the dow command. Linux boots and all goes well here.

    Using a litte program I've written I've opened the \dev\icap0 device node and start writing commands to this components. I cannot use the ICAP read-back sequence from the datasheet directly since this shuts down the FPGA. This stops the Microblaze and results in a failure.

    The program I've written is able to readback exacly 7055 configuration words and then the program hangs and XDS debugger disconnects.

    - Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong?

    The command sequence I use to perform the readback is;

    0xffffffff // Packet::Dummy, 0x000000BB, // Bus width sync 0x11220044, // bus width detect 0xffffffff // Packet::Dummy, 0xaa995566 // Packet::Sync, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x30008001 // ( ( 1 29 ) | ( 4 13 ) | ( 2 27 ) | 1 ), 0x00000004 // Packet::Rcfg, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x30002001, // Type 2 packet to write FAR in next packet 0x00000000, // FAR = 0 0x28006000, // 001 01 RRRRRRRRRxxxxx RR 0 TYPE 1 0x48000000 + ( 147600 ), // 010 RR 147600 TYPE 2 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop, 0x20000000 // Packet::Noop,

    After this sequence I start reading 147600 configuration words from the read FIFO. After printing 7055 words the program jumps to undefined memory (I think).

    Thanks,

    Luke

    Hello Austin,

    Thank you for you quick response.

    There is only one configuration interface, so the JTAG used for the debugger can't be running at the same time you are trying to use ICAP.

    Ok! I already assumed this would be the case. For that reason I disconnected XDS after downloading Linux "disconnect 0". But this generates exactly the same behavior. Is it enough to just simply disconnect the JTAG connection or do I need to close the SDK and disconnect the USB cable?

    To safely capture everything, one needs to stop all clocks…perfectly safe).

    I'm aware of the BRAM limitation, only I thought that the readback would not include BRAM content since I'm not reading BlockType 001 (in the FAR register). The idea was to read-back the entire FPGA logic except BRAM content and then manually read the relevant BRAMs which have their clocks disabled. The CAPTURE_VIRTEX6 can always be enabled right? This has nothing to do with the read-back limitation.

    I'm only interested to capture sub-part of my design. The MicroBlaze is only introduced as a monitoring unit of a stand-alone design.

    DB:2.87:Vss Writers: System Writer - Waiting For Completion kc

    Hi,
    We have Windows Server 2003 R2 in our environment and we use EMC Networker 7.4 to take backup of these servers. We take the system state backup of these servers with the help of a feature in Networker called VSS Save sets.
    Now randomly in certain servers this VSS backup fails while the file system backup (like C:\. D:\) occurs successfully. While investigating the VSS backup failure issue weobserved that VSS backup fails when the System writer (by issuing VssAdmin list
    writers command) is in waiting for completion state. VSS backups are successful on those systems where system writer is in stable state. I have googled a lot to resolve this issue and applied all the relevent solution by applying pathes related to VSS, registering
    dlls etc but the issue still persists. If we reboot the server then it solves the issue for time being but after few days it surfaces again. I have also tried to stop/restart the MS Software Shadow Copy Provider service on the affected server but the System

    But in the TNSNAME.ORA file is working fine. meaning SQL*Plus and other Oracle client can connect.

    Only the GUI application(like DBA Studio,enterprise manager) are giving this error.

    How can I solve this ploblem?

    Thanks.

    DB:2.85:Ora-12571 Tns : Packet Writter Failure 3j

    yes I few more tnsnames.ora file other directory for other version and application.

    For this same version HOME directory, only one file is there.
    so, SQL*Plus is connecting by using this file , but not for GUI applications.(DBA studio,Enterprise manager)

    Hi,
    Recently setup a brand new 2012 R2 server, using hyper v to host 3 VM's, backing up with backup exec 2014.The backups are failing, backup exec stating...
    V-79-40960-38521 -
    Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: VRTSRV::\\UKBNHV01.ProCam.local\Hyper-V?Virtual?Machine\UKBNDC01. Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
    A virtual machine snapshot could not be created. Use the Event Viewer on the Hyper-V host to identify the cause. If the virtual machine is not properly configured, it may be necessary to use the Event Viewer in the virtual machine to
    identify the cause.
    Looking at the Hyper V VMMS event viewer I get the error:
    VSS writers inside virtual machine 'UKBNIT01' failed to perform BackupComplete to its shadow copy (VSS snapshot) set: Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF). (Virtual machine ID 7C31CD39-FFAD-4E04-BF92-223BC120BE1B) event ID 10172

    I see there are other posts relating to this, with random answers suggesting fixes relating to disk speeds and all sorts. If i restart the hyper v's and physical server the backup will run maybe 2 or 3 times successfully before failing again. Clearly buying
    a server to restart it every 2 days isn't an option.
    It seems apparent this isn't just a problem relating to server 2012 R2, but has carried across in all newer versions of windows server.

    Hi Veerersh

    I like to add one more comment on this. As you mentioned above, after the exchange server reboot about 15days there will be no issue in taking the backup, on 16th day, again the VSS writter issue will appear.
    Even we tried to re-register the DLL files in Exchange but no luck for this also.

    Hi folks, I'm on NT 4.0 SP6 and I'm trying to install the Personal Edition of Oracle 9i with General Purpose database and the Database Configuration Assistant displays error "ORA-12571: TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE".

    I've read a lot here in the installation forum; I've tried installing from the /install/win32/setup.exe, I've
    tried different database types, running the DCA standalone after the install, and I still get this error.
    Later I tried the unistall procedures and still can't get a successful installation with database. I've had a post out here for a week and I haven't gotten any response.

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

    Also, in the beginning of the install it tells me that I should have MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) installed. Is this true? Do I really need MTS for a 'personal edition', non-networked version of 9i?

    Can anyone help me solve this problem?

    Additionally:
    I saw someone respond that Personal Edition was only for
    Windows 98. I don't beleive that this is true. I know folks that have it installed on XP and 2000, as well as 98.

    There seem to be a lot of problems with DCA posted in the installation forum. Why doesn't Oracle fix it so it works right?

    Many thanks for this forum.

    DB:2.84:Calculated Field Failure 8z

    Smoky,
    Seems you have site columns with duplicate Title and internal name in the same site collection.
    If you have to create columns with same “Name” in parent site and sub site, please create the column in the parent site with a different name first, and then change the name in the change site column page (_layouts/fldedit.aspx). This way, you can
    have two site columns with the same Title
    Also you're not allowed to have more than 1 event handler with the same name, and you will get this error if more than one with the same name exists.
    Check the dbo.EventHandler table for event handlers with the name 'Land_Country' and remove the duplicate value.

    Also refer following for more detail on suggested solutions:

    If you weren't shutting down the database, this was probably a transient failure. If it recurs, you'll want to enable SQL*Net tracing to diagnose the root cause.

    As far as shutting down the database before rebooting, if this is a production database, then you absolutely should be shutting down Oracle before rebooting. If this is a development database, it is probably less critical.

    Hello,

    here is what Cisco has to say about the POST failures you are experiencing:

    A POST failure usually means there is physical damage to the interface. If an Ethernet Controller which controls four interfaces fails, it would result in the failure of those ports. A common cause of such damage would be ESD.

    Failure of any of these diagnostic tests is normally fatal and usually requires an Return Material Authorization (RMA) to resolve the problem.

    It looks like your switch(port) is physically damaged.

    Yesterday on a client running on Windows 2000 Professional, this error came: "ORA-12571 TNS packet writer failure." I looked for the solution on net found n numbers of different responses. Some one says its a spyware, someone says Oracle server has blocked this particular IP address, just restart the server it will be OK, some one says, remove the TCP/IP protocol from the client again reinstall the protocols. My problem was solved, by removing the spy.
    But I want to ask, whats the real meaning of this problem what shud be the proper action to resolve this.

    Hello Oracle Gurus,

    Our Oracle 9i database is hosted somewhere else and is behind the firewall. When accessing this database through TOAD, even after 2 minutes of inactivity, we get the "TNS-12571: TNS Packet writer failure" and we have to reconnect to the database again. This occurs in all of the client machines. The Oracle 9i database's firewall is open for the ip address from which we are using TOAD/SQL*Plus.

    Is there any configuration that needs to be changed on the Oracle Client or server side to solve this issue? I appreciate your help.

    Thanks,
    Saku

    DB:2.77:Tns-12571:Tns Packet Writer Failure 8x

    Hi,

    you can set sqlnet_expire_time option in sqlnet.ora file on the database server and set the time less than 2 mins. This to identify if the problem is because of some firewall configuration or other network related issue which causes the onnection to die.

    this parameter should keep all the client connection alive but results in extra trafic.

    Yesterday I've installed Oracle 9i release 2 on my Windows 2000 pc. Everything went fine. Then I've installed OWB. Still everything was ok. Then I've installed JDeveloper and the BI Beans. After then, I was not able anymore to start the dB instance. So I've removed everything again, cleaned-up the registry and the file system, and re-installed Oracle 9i, but now I'm not even able to install an instance. I do get the error: TNS-12571 TNS:packet writer failure. And some of the time I've get an "End of communication channel" error (which is anyway one of my most favorites ;-) ) I've even tried to install an 8.1.7. instance but still no success!!The error remains!!!!! What do I have to do now? Format my disc? Buy a new computer? H E L P?

    thank you

    Hi,

    First of all, I would like to confirm the meaning of VSS framework in your description We use VSS framework to backup the whole system.

    By the way, what backup tools did you use?

    It seems that the backup fail after you start the Windows Server 2000 SP4 VM, that means the backup worked properly if the Windows Server 2000 SP4 VM
    is off. If I misunderstand your concern, please feel free to let me know.

    If so, please check whether there are dynamic disk(opposite to basic disk) with the Windows Server 2000 SP4 VM.
