    Hello,

I am having A305-S6872.I am not able to use the webcam.when i start webcam i get the message "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".Also i do not see the webcam listed in device manager. Please help

DB:4.46:Webcam Not Found In Device Manager 1f

    try this...

    turn off you computer..

restart it then tap F2... to access BIOS...

press F9 to load setup defaults.. then press F10 to save settings and exit..

Check device manager if the webcamera is detected... that should be under imaging devices...

    if not..

try to reinstall the camera utility...

    if not...

possible that the webcam already defective.

I had my hard drive replaced a week ago but now my webcam is not working. I have tried installing Dell Webcam Central but it says a webcam cannot be detected. I reinstalled all of the drivers and everything else is working fine except for this. When I look at the device manager screen there is one yellow exclamation point next to an unknown device. I also can not find the driver for the webcam when I put my drivers CD in or on Dells website. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an A505-S6993 new out of the box. I installed a few programs (antivirus, Adobe suite, and Skype) and the webcam worked fine (tested with Skype). Of course, Windows 7 had some updates available, so I installed them and restarted. Now the webcam doesn't work. I downloaded and reinstalled the driver off of Toshiba's website, no change. I have also tried to update the driver per the Toshiba document found in other webcam posts, but it is not found in the Device Manager. The only thing listed is a USB camera device, which Windows says is working properly. I updated the driver anyway, no change. When I use Toshiba's Webcam Utility, it says that the webcam failed to initalize. Any ideas?

    DB:3.82:Webcam Issues x8

What were the Windows 7 updates do you remember? My suggestion would be to uninstall those updates and check to see if the webcam works again. If it does reinstall the updates one at a time, checking the cam to see if it still works after each one. If it works then move on to the next one until it stops and then go back once more and don't install that update until a fix has been made.

Same problem, after hard drive replacement and upgrade to Win7 Home Prem 64. Skype can't find webcam, but it shows on devices and printers and device manager says it is operating normally. Downloaded driver packs will not install, saying they can only be installed on HP equipment, which is so utterly asinine since it's an HP laptop. ( DUHHHHH!!!!!! )

It seems to be an hardware issue, as the webcam isn't even being detected. It is recommended that you need to contact the system manufacturer or a local technician.

    Hi HobyDog,

You are welcome; I am sorry reinstalling the driver is not fixing the issue.

If the webcam was working prior to the virus infection, then it should work again if you can get the software sorted out.

Without doing a lot of diagnositc work, there are a couple of things I can think of that might be simpler than just backing up everything and reloading the OS. Ideas listed, then the "how-to" bits. Below that, I've added the HP "What to do if" document on WebCam Connection Issues.

Scan the system and look for residual inconsistancies and file errors. If you've not done so, this might be a good plan - the virus may have left things in a muddled state. You can ignore all the "log this and look at that" if you want, just run the scan and let it go. The point is to let the system heal itself. IF the scan won't complete, then you have to run the "verify only" bit and get into the logs and start looking for the trouble spots...

    sfc-scannow

Scan and repair the system. The sfc /scannow command will do that - it will scan the operating system, looking for corrupted files and inconsistencies; it will replace and repair whatever it can. If it finds corrupted programs or libraries, it will try to fix them.

Start Menu All Programs Accessories Right-Click Command Prompt Select 'Run as Administrator'In the Command Prompt Window, type (or copy / paste) sfc /scannow and press Enter.

(Note the space between sfc and the "/".)

The sfc scan will report its findings and you can examine the results:
Open a Command Prompt (does not have to be as Administrator):Use the copy command to create a readable file copy of the output:

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\desktop\cbs.txt

If “scannow” does not complete properly, try running:

    sfc /verifyonly

Copy the results into a text file, pull the output file into Notepad and look for the errors that the full Scan could not fix.

Help File for the System File Checker Command:

System File Checker tool Windows Vista or on Windows 7

Hit the system with a Hard Reset. This is more of a hardware approach - it's a method of disconnecting and reconnecting "everything" - throwing the Master Switch.
    Hard Reset:

Sometimes all you need to do is kick the computer. This method works for a variety of connection and ‘stuck’ program issues.
Disconnect all external devices first.Remove AC power and the batteryPress and hold power button for at least 30 secondsReinstall only AC power for first startup ** See NotePower on - Log inNext time you shut down the system, reinstall battery.
** Note: You can ignore the bit about leaving the battery out. If you like, reinstall battery the first time and be done with it.

    ==========================================================================

You might try just deleting (completely removing) and then reinstalling that driver. It's not unheard of that the removal and reinstallation can "kick" a device back into recognition status.
    Install Webcam

Drivers control hardware connected to the computer (wired or wireless).

Software controls the programs that interact with the User.

The BIOS initializes, identifies, and structures, the computer during the boot process.

    Remove the Current Driver:

If you are having issues with the current webcam driver, you may elect to remove it from the Device Manager.

NOTE: Do NOT remove any driver unless you have the means to replace it. Make sure you can download the new driver before you remove the old driver from your computer.

Control Panel icon view Device Manager Imaging Devices

Right-Click HP TrueVision HD (Webcam) Uninstall Delete

Install the Software / Driver installation package: If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package(s) and “double-click” to install, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.

    ===========================================================================

If the virus nailed your system hard, go back to your website, check for the BIOS update. Make sure you are updated. You might consider flashing the BIOS if the BIOS at the website is the proper match for your Operating System. Check all your BIOS settings before / after making any BIOS changes. I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7-64 from Vista-64. I did a clean install, and reinstalled all drivers and programs.
The internal HP Webcam in the bezel was working fine in Vista, but doesnt even show in Device Manager under Windows7 !!!
I have tried the various suggestions found on the web including:
    - Upgrading the Sytem BIOS
    - Installing various webcam drivers in compatibility mode
The webcam should show in device manager...
But it does not - even with Show Hidden Devices selected
There are no items with an exclamation point either.
So, step one would be to get the webcam to show in Device Manager somehow...
    Thanks for any suggestions

    Hi,

    Troubleshoot camera connection problems
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Troubleshoot-camera-connection-problems

You probably need to reload the camera driversand any camera control software (usually included
with the drivers andinstalled at the same time).

    Logon as Admin.

Control Panel - Device Manager - Imaging - write down make and model of camera - double click
on it and on driver's tab get version. Now click Update Drivers (which may not do anything as MS
is far behind certifying drivers). The RIGHT CLICK on the camera - UNINSTALL - REBOOT - this
    will refresh the driver stack.

Now go to System Maker's site and download the latest camera driver and other related camera
software (if no newer get the same ones).

Download - SAVE - go to them and RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN - reboot after each driver.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm

to ensure the latest drivers from System maker and Device makers are found)
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

Then leave windows updates on however stop it from loading drivers which are often older than the
ones you have installed. If Updates suggests a driver then HIDE it and look manually to see if their
really is a newer one (at both system maker and device maker's sites).

In any case, if you visit Dell's Drivers Downloads section, put in your service tag and/or use the model information - you can download the correct drivers. Here's the trick: Dell (or Creative Labs) didn't support your laptop COMPLETELY (the webcam) under
Windows 7. You have to select either Vista 32-bit or Vista 64-bit and then run the driver installer in compatibility mode.
It is the Creative Labs-Driver under the "Input" section.

I am having the same issue. I have recently installed Win7 64 bit again from scratch and the webcam is not being recognized properly in the device manager.

Is there a prerequisite driver or software from dell that needs to be installed to get it to be recognized in Win 7?

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hello.

I am desperately looking for help with my built-in Chicony 2.0 webcam that came installed in my Toshiba A215 Satellite notebook.

It has not worked properly since I got the computer last August 2007.

Always says webcam locked by another application.

Now the webcam is not found at all.

I went to device manager and it says the drivers are updated.

I am so confused I dont know what to do. any help would be greatly appreciated.

DB:3.56: Satellite A215: Chicony Webcam Not Working - Locked By Another Application dp

Download the updated Chicony Webcam driver from the Toshiba website drivers section. If you cannot find an updated driver, try a newer driver from another Toshiba Model.
Install Vista Service Pack 1, or Vista Hotfix KB934374: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934374 (KB934374 is included in SP1)
Update your Messenger software (MSN/Yahoo Messenger, etc..)
If you have another program that can use the webcam (Skype for example), make sure they are completely closed, and not sitting in the System Tray.
Try closing the Camera Assistant Bar on the left of the Desktop.
To stop the Camera Assistant software from running on startup, run Regedit and delete "Camera Assistant Software" from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

    Hi,

You probably need to reload the camera driversand any camera control software.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

How to Install a Device Driver in Vista Device Manager

Then leave windows updates on however stop it from loading drivers which are often older than the
ones you have installed. If Updates suggests a driver then HIDE it and look manually to see if their
really is a newer one (at both system maker and device maker's sites).

since i dont use the webcam very often, im not sure when the problem started.

i first noticed the issue when attempting to use skype which could not find the webcam. the webcam was not recognized in hp quickplay either. i then checked the device manager and the driver was not listed.

i then went to control panel hardware and sound scanners and cameras add device, and found the webcam listed and attempted to install it from there.

the webcam was recognized in the device manager but with the error "This device cannot start (Code 10)."
I then used hp health check to scan my computer which stated the driver for the webcam was the incorrect driver and unistalled the driver in order to repair it but did not offer to reinstall the correct driver. after this the webcam driver could not be found

I have a dv6768se with Vista-32 that I bought several years ago. When I first bought it, the webcam worked, but I haven't used it in a long time. It now says "no device found" when I try to use Skype/Cyberlink. I have tried to reinstall the Cyberlink program, but it will not load because it can't find a camera. There is nocameralisted on the Device manager or under the USB controllers. Occasionally, I get a "unknown USB device" error. Any suggestions???

I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7-64 from Vista-64. I did a clean install, and reinstalled all drivers and programs.

The webcam was working fine in Vista, but doesnt even show in Device Manager under Windows7 !!!

I have tried the various suggestions found on the web including:

    - Upgrading the Sytem BIOS

    - Installing various webcam drivers in compatibility mode

The webcam should show in device manager!

But it does not - even with Show Hidden Devices selected.

So, step one would be to get the webcam to show in Device Manager somehow...

    Thanks for any suggestions

You can give a try with the below Windows 7 drivers for all the HP Notebook PC's:

However, BIOS update should not be done on retail version operating system.

And make sure you try in HP Media smart or in You cam Software for the status of Webcam.

My webcam nx pro is not recognized by windows xp after a cold boot. The found new hardware wizard pops up everytime I boot the PC. I must mention the webcam is connected to the usb port, everytime I boot the PC.

Since windows xp doesn't recognize the device I suppose it doesn't load the drivers and the webcam doesn't work. If I checked in the device manager window at the windows operating system (xp), the Pc-Cam device appears with a yellow question mark. (not the nx pro)

The funny thing (?) about this situation is that if I disconnect the webcam and then connect it again windows xp, recognizes it, and loads the correct drivers. Of course in this case the camera works. But, if then, I turn off the computer (using shut down and not restarting) and wait a couple of minutes to boot again, the webcam is not recognized after a cold boot.

I need to disconnect the webcam and connect it again so that the webcam can be recognized.
I was expecting that the webcam, like any other usb device, once installed, could load the drivers automatically and start working normally. Is this the normal behaviour for this webcam ?

I?m using windows xp sp2 and I have updated the drivers for my webcam, for my motherboard,( Abit KT7A-RAID with Via Apollo KT33 chipset), and also the VIA drivers.

Thanks, for any help you can provide..

    Hi Hafizul,

Thank you for keeping us updated on the issue.
    Please provide us following information:

Didyou change your camera'ssettings? Is the screen solid black or just very dark?

Follow the steps below and see if it fixes the issue:

Open the Camera AppClick the "camera options" button Select "more"Try to adjust the "brightness" moving the slider left or rightConfigure the "Exposure" setting, change it from "auto" to "manual" or vice versa

Note: If you have more than one video input devices (e.g. a webcam and a video card), it is also possible that the wrong device is selected as default. When clicking "camera options" on the Camera App do you see a drop-down
list named "video device"? If yes, select the correct device.

Important: Uninstalling a driver removes the faulty driver completely from the device, when you try to upgrade a device the faulty driver may not get updated with the correct version as the
driver version still remains the same. After removing the driver Windows will automatically start searching for the most appropriate drivers and will reinstall it.

    a. Press Windows key + R.
    b. In the search bar type “devmgmt.msc” and click on ok.
    c. Once device manager is opened, Click on View and select “Show hidden devices”.

Method 2: Run the Hardware troubleshooter
    a) Press “Windows Key + R”, type Control Panel.
    b) Then type “Troubleshooting” in the Search box and hit enter.
    c) Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.
    d) Select “Hardware”.
    e) Follow the On Screen instructions.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other issues with Windows in future.

    Zunair,

    Welcome to the HP Forum.

    Webcam Reset and Check

If the webcam was working and the notebook has not suffered "traumatic" events -- falling, knocking about, the top being forced past the "full open", and that sort of thing, then the wires might still be intact. The fussy little webcam wires can disconnect at ANY time and that is the end of your webcam.

Assuming the wires are intact, you have a few options you might try on the software side.

    ===================================================================================

    Forced Reset

    Hard Reset

This is a Driver Reset; this is NOT the Windows 8 Reset that installs the Operating System. The Hard Reset procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way.

Why a Power Reset works to fix some issues:

Hard Reset clears the driver instructions that usually persist from boot-to-boot. The computer is forced to go read all “fresh” instructions from the drivers and software stored on-disk in the Operating System. The action of clearing and forcing a reread of the on-disk drivers can solve some issues.

Why a Power Reset might Not Work:

If the issue is more than just entanglement, if the "good instructions" located in the Operating System are not good enough -- that is, you need an update, a new driver, or there is a problem that cannot be "untangled", then the Reset will not work.

If there is an underlying hardware problem the Power Reset will not work.

    Check the webcam
    =====================================================================

    BIOS Defaults

    Shut down your notebook...
Excerpted from a Post by our Provost Expert DavidPK :

Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ),

Use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

Let windows fully load, then open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and expand Imaging Devices - do you see the HP TrueVision HD device listed here now?"

Go to Start All Programs Toshiba Media and Entertainment Web Camera Application. Click on Web Camera Application and the camera will be turned on with the current picture displayed in the window and there are lots of settings available along the bottom of the window. My HP Pavillion g6 notebook has an integrated webcam. a couple days after upgrading from windows 7 to windows 8.1, my webcam stopped working. i went into device manager and found that it was classified as a 'hidden device'. I have tried many different programs
including skype and youcam and it will not work. Is there any way I can make my webcam not a 'hidden device'?

    THANKS!!

There is a simple and easy solution for this conflict no matter which device is giving you the problem or if is even all devices including Microsoft ones.
    Steps:
    Start
    Computer
Right click on it and scroll down to Properties
Upper left hand corner click on Device Manager
New window will open of Device Manager
Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Expand it by clicking on the forward arrow key if it is not expanded
Scrolldown to the USB Device with the Exclamation mark on it in the yellow triangle
Right click on it and click Uninstall
    Next select USB Root Hub
Right click on it and click Uninstall
Do that for all the USB Root Hub that are there
After they are all uninstalled, shut down your computer completely. Pull out power cord and if it has a battery then remove it. Press the Power button for a few seconds to drain any power left in the system. Wait 5 minutes and reinstall the battery, Plug
in the Power cord and restart the computer.
Once you get full boot, go to www.microsoft .com and select downloads and then select Microsoft Update. Minimise the page.
Next plug in your USB device and let Windows download the drivers automatically for the device. It should work fine.
    Enjoy being headache free!

The integrated webcam is not working in my Inspiron N4010. In device manager it does not appear - there is no category for imaging devices. Both webcam central and skype (which I have uninstalled and reinstalled) indicate no webcam and asks that one be plugged in. Please advise.

    Hello,

I uninstalled my built in webcam from device manager. Now I'd like to reinstall it, but I cannot find the 'imaging' section n device manager. I tried searching 'web camera' from the start menu, but it said 'web camera initialzation failed'

    My laptop c855-1gx, window 7.

Did you uninstall your webcam from the device manager also?

On items such as Web Camera, Video, NIC cards should not be deleted via the Device Manager, because there is usually software associated with them, making it more difficult to troubleshoot and repair.

You actually have 2 + programs that work with the web cam.

    1. Toshiba Face Recognition

    2. Toshiba Web Camera Application

    3. Programs such as: Skype, FACEFLOW and so on.

In your AllPrograms TOSHIBA Support Recovery PC Diagnostic Tools

Run this to determine what maybe wrong.

    Andyou can RUN

All Programs TOSHIBA Support Recovery Toshiba Application Installer

The Toshiba Application Installer will reinstall applications and drivers

Device manager does not find it, wont work with skype, messenger, or mediasmart. Uninstalled, reinstalled software twice. Please help, wife lives in Denmark and thinks I don't want her to see me!

DB:3.41:Integrated Webcam No Longer Found. Pavilion Dv6t-2100 da

If DM does not see the cam, then there is a hardware problem, maybe a defective cam or cable that connects it to the motherboard, I suppose the wife needs to trust your word.
