    DB:3.12:Adf Entity: How To Set/Unset Attribute Updatable Property Correctly xj

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0

    I am trying to set/unset the updatable property of two attributes(CodBalancaIn, CodBalancaOut) when another attribute is changed(FlagRecepMadeiraBoolean). All attributes are from the same entity.

    This is what I have done:

    1. Overide the method isAttributeUpdateable()

    public boolean isAttributeUpdateable(int i) {
    if ( (i == CODBALANCAIN || i == CODBALANCAOUT) !this.getFlagRecepMadeiraBoolean()) {
    return false;
    }
    return super.isAttributeUpdateable(i);
    }

    2. Override the method setFlagRecepMadeiraBoolean()

    public void setFlagRecepMadeiraBoolean(Boolean value) {
    if (value){
    this.setFlagRecepMadeira("S");
    isAttributeUpdateable(CODBALANCAOUT); -- I have inserted these code lines to try to refresh the attribute updatable property
    isAttributeUpdateable(CODBALANCAIN);
    }
    else {
    this.setFlagRecepMadeira("N");
    isAttributeUpdateable(CODBALANCAOUT);
    isAttributeUpdateable(CODBALANCAIN);
    }
    }

    When I execute Oracle ADF Model Tester all records that have the FlagRecepMadeira=true have the attributes CodBalancaIn and CodBalancaOut updatable and the others records with the FlagRecepMadeira=false have the CodBalancaIn and CodBalancaOut not updatable and this working as I pretend to. But when I change the FlagRecepMadeira, in the Oracle ADF Model Tester, I expect that the fields of the attributes CodBalancaIn and CodBalancaOut changes the updatable property according the status of the FlagRecepMadeira, but that does not happen, nothing change. Only when I commit the the changes the updatable property of the attributes CodBalancaIn and CodBalancaOut is changed.

    When I unset the flagRecepMadeira I need to clear the attributes CodBalancaIn and CodBalancaOut and set the updatable property to false. How can I do this?

    Does anyone have any tutorial or example on how to develop form (insertable and updatable) that links the master table to several child tables in tabs and has commit button on it - something similar to what you usually do in Oracle Forms. For example, in the form, you may see an employee's profile at the top and his job history in one tab, performance appraisals in another tab, and trainings in another tab, etc. All of them must be presented in the same form and, when the form is saved, updated records in any of those tables will be updated. Any idea?

    DB:2.87:How To Check The Data Updated Before Saving The Record? c1

    Hi All,

    I am using forms 10g and developed a custom form with 4 tab pages. One tab shows data from a table and the data is updatable.

    When the save button is clicked on the form, i need to compare the old record and the new record, if they does not match, i need to display an alert with a message and which will have 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons. 'Ok' will save the data and Cancel will not save.

    I have tried this using key-commit trigger at form level. But i see that the updated value is not fetched and shows null. I could see the updated value at the particular block level only.

    Please suggest how to proceed.

    CraigB wrote:Using the method I demonstrated above, you would have to loop through each database
    item in your block to check the DATABASE_VALUE. This is a slow process so it will cause a
    noticeable slowness when saving.Actually, the Database_Value is a value stored in a running form's memory, stored during the query process, so accessing it is very quick. There is no io to the database involved. Forms uses Database_Value in the record-locking process to check whether the locally stored Database_Value matches the online value. If they match, the row is locked; if they don't, forms issues the message that the record has been changed by another user, and fails the lock.
    @ Steve, I never said checking the DATABASE_VALUE would cause I/O or a network round-trip. :) I merely stated that the act of checking each item would be time consuming. In my opinion, performing this kind of check is unnecessary and in hind-sight, I should have just stated that instead of offering a coding solution. Personally, if the OPs need is to ensure record uniqueness - I prefer to use a unique key on the table versus client side checks.

    You are right about the DATABASE_VALUE being stored in the Form so this check does not require a trip to the database. Thanks for the clarification. :)

    The 8.1.6 drivers have not been released yet. I assume you are
    using the JDK 1.2 8.1.6 SDK Thin driver. This driver has
    pretty much the same feature set as the JDK 1.1 8.1.6 SDK
    drivers, which is pretty much the same as the 8.1.5 drivers.
    None of these drivers support updateable result sets. That will

    versions.

Because the underlying config tables are updated fairly frequently, I want the materialized views to fast refresh on commit. However, when I try to create a materialized view containing an outer join from a table to an aggregated materialized view, I get ORA-12052: cannot fast refresh materialized view.I've gone through the documentation and also Rob van Wijk's very handy series of blogs on the subject (especially http://rwijk.blogspot.co.uk/2009/09/fast-refreshable-materialized-view.html) but have not found anything that matches. DB:2.73:If There Is A Jdbc Driver Supportting Updatable Resultset? xx

    ResultSet JDBC v 1.2 by definition IS an updatable ResultSet.

    Per:
    Oracle8i JDBC Developer's Guide and Reference
    Release 2 (8.1.6)
    A81354-01

    Oracle JDBC Implementation for Result Set Updatability

    To support updatability, Oracle JDBC uses ROWIDs to uniquely
    identify database rows that appear in a result set. For every
    query into an updatable result set, the Oracle JDBC driver
    automatically retrieves the ROWID along with the columns you
    select.

    P.S. I have also noted that during coding when performing a
    multi-table SELECT to a ResultSet that unless the ROWID value
    is explicitly used in the UPDATE, the ResultSet will have
    difficulties performing an UPDATE.

    I have a quick question, just to find out if this kind of approach is even possible, or suggested.

    I would like to be able to chain together three serverss using updatable subscriptions. So, Server A publishes various tables with an updatable subscription, to which Server B subscribes. Server B in turn publishes those same tables with an updatable subscription to which Server C subscribes. So, a change made to Server C's tables will replicate back to Server B, which will then replicate back to Server A.

    Does this work in SQL Server 2005? Can you create an updatable publication for a table to which you have an updatable subscription?

    Thanks.

    Just for what it's worth (and for the lurkers) you are NOT obliged to use datasheet view for a Subform. That's what the wizard gives you, but you can build the subform from scratch (in either Single or Continuous view), or change the DefaultView property
    of the subform that the wizard builds.
    I'd try to avoid basing data entry/editing forms on a query joining a one-to-many relationship, because it can get really confusing when you're adding records to both tables in the same operation.

    Good observation about subforms in datasheet view; I didn't notice that that remark by Mr Icy until after he'd already decidedhe'd solved his problem.
    I don't have a problem with data entry forms based on a child-to-parent query, though I generally lock the parent fields so that they appear only for reference unless the user explicitly unlocks them for editing.

    NH,
    WLS has supported two phase commit transactions since 6.0. Here is
    a 6.1 link discussing JTA support:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/jta/gstrx.html#1032948

    As I remember the only disclaimer on WTC in WLS 6.1 was that CORBA
    inbound transactions was an unsupported feature. This was a limitation
    on testing
    time prior to the release and not the availablity of the feature
    (which was tested successfully for 7.0)

    Hi,
    I have a scenario of persisting object with many to many relation. I have two classes Applicaiton and Person which has many to many relations with additional column, so mapped with third table ApplicationGroupMember.

    The annotations are as below
    Application:

    @Entity
    @Table(name="APPLICATION")
    public class Application{
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)

    private Person person;
    }

    @Embeddable
    public class ApplicationPersonId {

    private long applicationId;
    private long personId;
    }

    I tried to load application object with two ApplicaitonGroupMember for two Person as below

    Application app = new Application();
    Person person1 = new Person();
    Person person2 = new Person();
    ApplicationGroupMember grp = new ApplicationGroupMember();
    grp.setApplication(app);
    grp.setPerson(person1);
    app.getPersons().add(grp);
    person1.getApplications().add(grp);

    ApplicationGroupMember grp2 = new ApplicationGroupMember();
    grp2.setApplication(app);
    grp2.setPerson(person2);
    app.getPersons().add(grp2);
    person2.getApplications().add(grp2);

    getEntityManager().persist(application);

    I am getting following error
    openjpa-1.2.0-r422266:683325 fatal user error org.apache.openjpa.persistence.ArgumentException: Attempt to assign id "com.ApplicationGroupMember-com.ApplicationPersonId@0" to new instance "com.ApplicationGroupMember@4aa44aa4" failed; there is already an object in the L1 cache with this id. You must delete this object (in a previous transaction or the current one) before reusing its id. This error can also occur when a horizontally or vertically mapped classes uses auto-increment application identity and does not use a hierarchy of application identity classes.

    I traced the sql, all insert statements are fine but the error occured only when transaction is about to commit. The above code works fine with one person.

    I really appreciate, if anyone helps to fix the issue

    DB:2.68:Error While Persisting Many To Many Relationship Object : Attempt To Assign zj

    Hello,

    I dont know OpenJPA implemention details so maybe someone familar with it might be of more help, as I believe this will work in EclipseLink JPA as it is. That said, the problem might be that the ApplicationGroupMember applicationId and personId attributes are annotated with @id but are still null when persist is called. The error makes it likely that it is using those mappings directly instead of the ManyToOne relationship to set the ids for the ApplicationPersonId class, causing the first and the second ApplicationGroupMember to both have the same ApplicationPersonId.

    If the ApplicationGroupMember contains additional data so the Person-Application relationship cannot be mapped as a ManyToMany, you might try persisting and flushing the Application and Person entities before setting their ApplicaitonGroupMember relationships (and being sure to also set the applicationId and personId attributes with the appropriate values from the referenced application and person entities) to see if that works. Or if you are able to use JPA 2.0, its support for derrived Ids means that you could get rid of the applicationId and personId attributes altogether and just mark the person and application relationships with the @Id annotation (or mapsId if you wanted to keep those attributes). IF this does not help and no one else here is able to add anything, you might try posting on the Apache forums or mailing list for OpenJPA.

    Best Regards,
    Chris

    DB:2.67:Issues Setting Up Transactional Replication Subscription kc

    I was able to configure sql server 2008 R2 transactional replication with the subscriber on the same sql server instance. Not surprisingly, its been much harder to get a new test db to work with transactional replication (updatable subscriptions) with another
    server.
    The current error is Server
    'MYPUBSERVER' is not configured for RPC.
    But I've already run sp_serveroption 'mypubserver', 'rpc','true'; on the publisher and restarted both instances of sql server.
    Other steps prior to this were to make sure the two servers could communicate with each other; the linked server which the subscription wizard created can be logged in to; adjustments to DTC on both boxes.
    One thing that seems strange about the process is that every time after the final step of the wizard (which has always failed for one reason or another), the subscription is not listed in the subscriptions folder. Yet when I try to create it again, the error
    reports that the subscription already exists. I find that the subscription does appear on the publisher, and if I delete it there, I can make another attempt on the subscriber side.

Then my question what if I need to have parameters in my read only (select - based) query and wish a user to setup these parameters on the main screen, select records with Execute with parameters and then edit records on the second screen with updatabale view object, which currently I manually synchronize with the first readonly dataobject from the main screen?Will very appreciate your answer!

    Any input will be appreciated.

    DB:2.64:Updatable Views xm

    Yes, as long as the view is based on a single table.

    When a view is based on more than one table Oracle has no way of knowing what data is supposed to go with what table.

    That's the purpose of the INSTEAD OF triggers that were introduced in 8i. They provide a way for you to tell Oracle that you will take care of determining which columns to use for each table.

    DB:2.63:Trigger In The Subscription Database - Transactional Replication... 38

    Hi,
                    We are Using Transactional Replication with Updatable Subscription in SQL Server 2005 SP1.
    Subscription Type : Pull Subscription
    Mode : Continuous Running Mode
    Conflict Resolution Policy : Publisher Wins.
                 I have a table Sample (which is part of replication) and it has got 3 triggers. All the triggers are set NOT FOR REPLICATION.

    The first trigger Updates a column of the Sample table in which i inserted a record.
    The second trigger inserts record in to another database table and also updates a column of the table Sample.
    The third trigger does not affect any tables, it is written for some manipulations with variables.
           In this scenario when I insert a record in the Sample table of the subscription database, that record is visible in the table. But during replication, it shows conflict in the Conflict Viewer and removes the record from the Sample table of the subscription database. The record is not replicated to the publisher and the other Subscriber also.
          But when I comment any one update in either the first or second trigger, the insert works fine without any conflict.

    Is there any issue with firing two triggers in replication which is updating the same table? I also suspect the Order of Commands moving to the Publisher from the MSReplication_Queue table, becoz the conflict viewer shows the subscriber as the Conflict loser.
    Is there any issue with msrepl_tran_version, Since the conflict is decided based on this id??
    It would be helpful if u could reply soon.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Swapna.B.

    DB:2.63:Trigger In The Subscription Database - Transactional Replication... 38

    Is there any issue with firing two triggers in replication which is updating the same table?Is there any issue with msrepl_tran_version, Since the conflict is decided based on this id??Yes there is an issue with both.Let's say msrepl_tran_version initial value is 123 for target record.You update the record - replication trigger fires to generate new msrepl_tran_version  value of 456.Usually this will then replicate sending across 2 values old 123 and new 456.Receiver of replication transaction checks they have a record matching old value 123, and if found, applies the update and sets the msrepl_tran_version to new value of 456. Both sides are in sync.If you do a 2nd update before this happens - a 3rd msrepl_tran_version value is generated 789, and old values becomes 456. Now when you send the pair of values across to other server/subscriber or publisher the values are old 456 and new 789. Receiver looks up value 456, does not find a matching record (it only knows about value 123) and therefore reports an Update Conflict. Publisher wins policy will then reject the update and roll back the record at subscriber to original values. Net effect, your transaction updates are lost.Conclusion: Update triggers that update values on the same table being triggered when mixed with replication is problematic. Don't put your own update triggers on replicated tables, or if you do, you really need to test it throroughly.

    The db is 11.2.0.3 on a linux machine.

    As far as I know, when a number of sessions issue "commit" CONCURRENTLY, oracle does a "IMPLICIT group commit" ,
    instead of doing every single commit.

    = "user commits" increases for every commit request.

    How can I measure how many "implicit group commit" has occurred?
    This is not about "explicit commit batch".

    How can I measure how many "implicit group commit" has occurred?You can't - there's no way to derive an accurate measure from the available information.
    However, a session that has issued a commit (or rollback) go into a wait for "log file sync", and the log writer issues "redo writes" to copy the log buffer down to disc; so, provided you ignore errors introduced by the 3 second timeout, or 1MB, or 1/3rd space trigger then the number of waits on "log file sync" minus the value of system statistic "redo writes" should give you a reasonable approximation of the result you want.

    Judging from your last two questions, it looks like you could do with getting a copy of Oracle Core - the stuff you're asking about is pretty much coveredin the manuals, but Oracle Core tries to present the mechanisms in a more narrative form that some people find easier to assimilate.

    DB:2.62:Updatable Views z7

    Hi all,

    I have a problem with creating a updatable view for a join on three tables.
    Its one table with a PK and two tables that references this with FK. The two tables does not have any references to each other.
    If I create views on any two combination of the pk, fk tables I get a updatable view but if I want all the tables I cant create a updatable view.

    The view has to be updatable since I will be using it in a form in Oracle Portal.

    please help

    /Jvrgen Swensen

    DB:2.62:Updatable Views z7

    Well

    The first table has the PK on fnr column. With som additional columns of information.

    The second table has a FK on fnr column which references the fnr in the first table.
    Then some additional columns.

    The third is like the second but with other information on the other columns.

    I need to create a view that has some columns from each of the three tables, and since I am using Oracle Portal Form, the view has to be updatable. I will not be updating but since the Oracle Portal only support updatable views I have to use it.

    DB:2.62:Lov On Display Item Not Working as

    Hello,

    I got this to work before I just cant seem to get it to work in the new JHS version.
    I followed the exact guidelines in the JHS guide 6.7.3.

    The problem is, the display field on which the LOV is, is read-only!
    I can fix this my marking the entity on which the view is based as updatable in the view editor but this fails at commit time and should not be needed.
    How do I get the field to be updatable?

    So what I did:
    Add the entity to the view as reference(default)
    Rename the two added attributes, unmark the key attribute on the ID attribute.
    Add the LOV to the new item in the JHS design editor
    Add the two fields in the JHS editor and set update allowed to true.

    Any ideas?

    Version = JHS10.1.3.3.81

    Anton

    DB:2.62:Lov On Display Item Not Working as

    Never mind, removing the item in the JHS editor and adding them again solved this.
    Not sure why or how, but it works.

    DB:2.60:Java.Sql: Resultset zz

    Hi everybody,
    In the standard Java packages: java.sql:ResultSet we read:

    It is possible to produce ResultSet objects that are scrollable and/or updatable. The following code fragment, in which con is a valid Connection object, illustrates how to make a result set that is scrollable and insensitive to updates by others, and that is updatable. See ResultSet fields for other options.

    Statement stmt = con.createStatement(
    ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE,
    ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT a, b FROM TABLE2");
    // rs will be scrollable, will not show changes made by others,
    // and will be updatable"

    Can sb.please tell me what does it mean when it says: "...will not show changes made by others..."?

    Thanks.

    DB:2.60:Java.Sql: Resultset zz

    Presumably it means that if another thread or process has a ResultSet with some of the same as yours, and updates one of those "shared" rows, that the change will not be reflected in your ResultSet.

    That's a pretty sloppy definition, and it leaves a number of things unspecified, but I think that's the general gist of it.

    DB:2.60:Transactional Replication With Updatable Subscribers 37

    Hello everyone,

    I'm having some problems getting my replication to work correctly.  I have setup my publisher and publication of a single table.  When I go to create the subscription, in the Login For Updatable Subscriptions dialog, I choose to use a linked server that I have already defined.  This linked server I created refers to the publisher and is setup to Be made using the login's current security context.

    I get the following message:

    TITLE: New Subscription Wizard------------------------------
    Unable to set the Publisher login for the updatable subscription. You may have to set this up directly on the Subscriber machine using sp_link_publication.

    The replication is partially working...  If I make a data change on the publisher, the change is reflected on the subscriber.  However, if I make a change to the subscriber, it is not replicated to the publisher.

    If, in the subscription setup wizard, I have it create a new linked server with a SQL account, then it works correctly.  However, I'd rather have it use Windows authentication to make the subscriber's changes on the publisher.

    Any ideas how I can get the link to work with Windows authentication?

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:2.60:Doubt In Configuring A Remote Subscriber To An Already Existing Publication kf

    Hi All,I need help in configuring a new subscription to an existing publication. Here's my scenario and the steps i've taken:There is a publisher with a local distributor. There is a transactional publication available(No updatable subscriptions) with push subscription and there are several subscribers to this publication. I want to add a new subscription to this publication on my subscriber which is remote from the publisher. The following are the steps i took after referring to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms146912.aspx and a few other articles:1. Find the login under which the replication agents run at the publisher and create the same login in my subscriber server. Then, Create a user in my subscription database and make it part of db_owner2. At the publisher, i ran  sp_addsubscriptionMy Questions are three-fold:How i do generate the initial snapshot? After step2, i find that if i manually start the snapshot agent, i get the initial snapshot at my subscriber. I couldn't find a Replication T-SQL programming way to restart this snapshot agent. Is there a Replication T-SQL Programming way to do the same operation as right-clicking the subscription and reinitializing subscription with a new/existing snapshot? If yes, could you point me to it? I tried running  sp_reinitsubscription but, again, the initial snapshot was not generated.Also, since there are alreay several other subscribers already configured to use the publication, will restarting the snapshot agent affect the other subscriptions as well? As in, will it just stop with creation of .bcp and .sch files OR will the creation of these new files trigger the distribution agent to apply this freshly created snapshot at all other subscriptions as well? It is important that the other subscriptions be untouched by my actions.Why should i run  sp_addpushsubscription_agent ? I've already given the necessary permissions to the distribution agent to connect to my subscriber in my step1, right? What job does this stored procedure create and what is the role of this job? MSDN mentions that Adds a new scheduled agent job used to synchronize a push subscription to a transactional publication. What exactly does this synchronize? does this apply the snapshot at the subscriber? if yes, then, does it create a fresh snapshot?

    DB:2.60:Doubt In Configuring A Remote Subscriber To An Already Existing Publication kf

    immediately means : subscription database need to re initialized with the snapshot of the publication data and schema . In case there is no snapshot available then The Snapshot Agent must run and generate a snapshot of the publication before the subscriptions can be initialized.At first syncronisation means already exiting snasphot will be applied to the subscriber database.Mohd Sufian

    Here is the limitaitn for updateable ResultSet that I found in Oracle JDBC documentaiton. Maybe it will help.

    http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/9i/java.920/a96654/resltset.htm#1018228

    Result Set Limitations
    The following limitations are placed on queries for enhanced result sets. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the JDBC driver choosing an alternative result set type or concurrency type.

    To produce an updatable result set:

    A query can select from only a single table and cannot contain any join operations.

    In addition, for inserts to be feasible, the query must select all non-nullable columns and all columns that do not have a default value.

    A query cannot use "SELECT * ". (But see the workaround below.)
    A query must select table columns only. It cannot select derived columns or aggregates such as the SUM or MAX of a set of columns.
    To produce a scroll-sensitive result set:

    A query cannot use "SELECT * ". (But see the workaround below.)
    A query can select from only a single table.

    Workaround
    As a workaround for the "SELECT *" limitation, you can use table aliases as in the following example:

    SELECT t.* FROM TABLE t ...

I have also setup the linked server connection and created the publication. Data is able to be replicated correctly onto my Oracle database. However, this time ard, I want my changes in the oracle database to be reflected back into the SQL database. So I had my publicationre-setup with Updatable Subscription. I tried to test it out by making some changes in my SQL database, and my Distribution Agent failed, with error "Invalid HEX number". I believe this is due to the uniqueidentifier datatype created during my publication creation, where this GUIDCOL is being added by the wizard. I have tried to add a new column in my oracle schema with datatype RAW(16), but it does not help.1. Can someone tell me how to store the uniqueidentifier in binary string format??ie. You can write a procedure in the database which starts an autonomous transaction. See:

    DB:2.53:Theory Question: Updatable Resultset + Multiple Tables xz

    Hi, there. I have been trying for several days to update a database using an updatable ResultSet with multiple tables. When the query is about a single table, it works fine on both MySQL and JDBC, but when I use more than one table in the query of the updatable ResultSet, it works fine on MySQL but does not on JDBC.

    Today I found the following paragraph in my JDBC book:

    'If queries adhere to the following guidelines, a developer can generally expect that they will produce updatable result sets:
    1. The query references only a single table in the database.
    2. The query does not contain a join operation.
    3. The query selects the primary key of the table it references.'

    Is this true? I need to do updates from a multiple tables query. What technique can I use instead?

    Thank you in advance for any hint or alternative solution.

    DB:2.53:Theory Question: Updatable Resultset + Multiple Tables xz

    You can use the technique of SQL statements like "UPDATE table SET column=value WHERE primarykey=something".

    DB:2.53:Oracle Streams Vs. Updatable Materialized View 9m

    Does anyone have an idea in which cases Oracle Streams is better than Updatable MV or visa verse?

    DB:2.53:Oracle Streams Vs. Updatable Materialized View 9m

    Are you really talking about Updatable Materialized Views? Or multi-master replication? Personally, I'm rather hard-pressed to come up with a situation where updatable materialized views would be useful unless you're taking the next step and doing multi-master replication.

    In general, Streams is going to put less load on the source system than materialized views and is going to replicate data more quickly. The downside tends to be that it's a relatively new technology, so it's not appropriate for environments that have older versions of Oracle. Going along with that, you'll find a lot more people/ organizations/ setups using materialized views than Streams, which can be a good thing if you need to hire new staff/ get support from a local user group/ etc. Streams also tends to be more flexible, which can be a good thing, but also tends to make things a bit more complicated.

    If you can outline the particular problem you're trying to solve, we can probably be a lot more specific...

    DB:2.53:Updatable Resultset - Getstring Works But Getobject Does Not? xs

    Hi

    I am creating an updatable resultset and then going thru it to read the values in each row. When I use getObject() to get the column values for each row, I get nulls. However, when I use getString(), I get the correct values.
    Also, if I create a regular statement, not using the updatable result set feature, the getObject() call works fine.

    Why would this be happening? (code below)

    Thanks
    Shailan

    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    //Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(); // - getObject() works with this
    ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery(query);

    metaData = rset.getMetaData();
    int numberOfColumns = metaData.getColumnCount();
    int numRows = 0;

    for (int column = 1; column = numberOfColumns; column++) {
    columnNames.addElement(metaData.getColumnLabel(column));
    }

    columnNames.addElement("RECEIVE_DATE");

    // Get all data rows.
    while (rset.next()) {
    numRows++;
    Vector newRow = new Vector();
    for (int i = 1; i = numberOfColumns; i++) {

    Sir,

    I have been stuck at this problem for quite some time. So, I have a updatable table with editall property but i am controlling each column's read only property based on the value of the checkbox present in that table.So, if the user clicks on the checkbox ,the entire row becomes editable. But when i am changing the value of the row and pressing the commit button , it does not take the new value but the postback happens with the old value only. If i just drag the table as editall table and edit something , the commit button does reflect the change.

    How to solve this. Please help

    DB:2.53:Updating A Row Is Not Reflected After Committing And It Takes The Old Value mf

    Frank,
    The reason i am not using the ClicktoEdit feature is because my aim is that the user clicks on multiple checkbox and then press the update button ,then all the checked rows becomes editable and the user can update them. But unfortunately, this feature is also not working .I am going step by step. So, i have checkboxes which the user can click to update them but it is not committing the change. Could u please help me or suggest some other way round. If u want any other information , please do ask.

    Hi Val,
    I have had loved something like ADO.NET/WCF Data Services, connected to the subscription views.... At least this would be still useful for the R part (of CRUD).
    For the updates, I may write a wrapper as you propose - to the WS API.
    My problem is the performance: I already have the web UI struggling in some cases - after already feeding the data and app tiers with several cores gigas of RAM. So I am afraid that if I use the MDS WS tier, I will have weaker perf - as there will
    be 2 service tiers.
    Can I have in mind the usage of the MDS SPs, as a direct replacement of the MDS WS tier?

After a commit, though, the field value from Entity C is displayed.

    After some testing, it looks as though only the field values from entities that are joined directly to the main (updatable) enitity are shown right away. Field values from entities that are joined two or more degrees from the main one do not get displayed until after a commit.

    Is this expected behavior? If not, what can I do to have all field values displayed directly after the insert (before a commit)?

    How can i define a "Updateable never" that disallows the user to modify a attribute in the user interface but allow to set it in the code.

    If i set the "Updateable" to "never" in the attribute dialog the user cannot change it. Good.

    Using setAttributeInternal i get a exception. Also good.

    If i use populateAttribute( index, value, true, true ) in the EOs prepareForDML, the changes are visible in the UI after post / commit.

    But in the diagnostics i can see that the update statements does not include this attributes.

    So seems so that markAsChanged = true is ignored by doDML for attributes that are set to "Updatable: never".

    So what is the recommended way to disallow a user modifing a attribute but allows me to change it internally in prepareForDML?

    Would be nice if this would be possible on EO level.

In the when-new-record-instance trigger, we placed a call to the qms@record.highlight_items procedure, in order to highlight the current record. This works when i run the form using the local OC4J instance on my windows client, but when i copy the form to the unix application tier, compile it and run it using IAS, it does not works as expected.
    The non-updatable fields change to the color specified in the user-preferences, but the updateable/insertable items do not change. I have tried just about everything, but the background color does not change, but stays the same ( light yellow) color. Strangely enough the font color does change! If i change the items from updatable to not updateble (using the properties in forms developer or programmaticly in a program unit), the background color does change, so it seems to be related to being updatable. Changing insertable to no, does not seem to have any effect.

    Have you thought of creating a "transient" attribute in your EO or VO, that stores the fixed list box value? Then in the doDML method you could grab this attribute's value and update the other EO attribute you're interested in.

    Alternatively in the transient attributes setter in the EO, you could write the code to update the other EO attribute.

    Hope this helps.

    I have this EXACT problem that is addressed on this site: http://www.replicationanswers.com/Merge.asp When I insert a row on Site1 (the Publisher) the row gets replicated to Site2. Site2 is a republisher to Site3 but the row never arrives at Site3. Answer: Check to see if you are using local subscriptions. All subscriptions need to be global for this republishing setup to work However, I've checked and we're using a global subscription for the merge replication but we still have this problem. We're using a Transactional Publication With Updatable Subscribers (immediate updating) for the initial publication from Site1 to Site2.  Site2 is republishing the same table via merge replication to Site3.  Problem: Inserts at Site3 do not make it to Site1, and vice versa.  The replication sync does not throw an error; it is as if the change was simply undetected. --here is the subscription to the transactional publication with updatable subscribers for Site2 to Site1 exec sp_addsubscription @publication = N'PUB_TestLocal', @subscriber = N'PublisherServer', @destination_db = N'TestLocalSub', @subscription_type = N'Push', @sync_type = N'automatic', @article = N'all', @update_mode = N'failover', @subscriber_type = 0 --here is the subscription to the merge publication for Site3 to Site2 exec sp_addmergesubscription @publication = N'PUB_TestGlobal', @subscriber = N'SubscriberServer', @subscriber_db = N'TestGlobalSub', @subscription_type = N'Push', @sync_type = N'Automatic', @subscriber_type = N'Global', @subscription_priority = 75, @description = null, @use_interactive_resolver = N'False' Ideas anyone? Much thanks in advance.

    DB:2.52:Republish Not Working ms

    I have been using transactional replication with updatable subscriptions (immediate updating) between Site1 and Site2 all along.  Perhaps the phrase I used in the original post was not clear enough, I'll edit it to make that more clear.  Thanks for your input anyhow. --this is what i'm using http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151718(SQL.90).aspx. The problem is that it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

    DB:2.51:Reinitialization In Replication jx

    Replication gurus,
    I have a transactional replication with updatable subscription setup having 1 publisher and 4 subscribers. All the servers are SQL 2008. Recently I faced a situation where in 2 subscribers got reinitialized automatically. When I checked the replication history
    it showed below message just before the reinitialization for both the subscribers:
    The concurrent snapshot for publication 'XXXXXX' is not available because it has not been fully generated or the Log Reader Agent is not running to activate it. If generation of the concurrent snapshot was interrupted, the Snapshot Agent for the publica
    However replication for other two subscribers were running fine. Does someone have any idea what could have caused this issue and when the above message occurs?
    The only change which was recently done in the replication was to add new subscription 2 days ago. However all the replications were running fine after that. This issue just happened yesterday midnight. So I am trying to understand the issue and am sure
    that new addition of subscriber wont cause any issue. Also if someone intentionally reinitializes the replication, is there any way to find out who reinitialized it?
    Let me know if you need any further details.

    DB:2.51:Reinitialization In Replication jx

    There is also an alertReplication: Subscriber has failed data validation that can be configured with a response to execute the jobReinitialize subscriptions having data validation failures. This could be a possible explanation
    to the reinitialization.Brandon Williams (blog |

    DB:2.51:Another User Has Changed The Row With Primary Key Oracle.Jbo.Key[Trans_Id] zm

    Hi All,

    "Another user has changed the row with primary key oracle.jbo.Key[Transaction_ID]"

    i am getting the above error while trying to commit the changes from the UI(have commit action in a command button).
    also am calling a method from a action listener of the command button (commit button) for doing some validation while commiting

    On the UI page i used to get a input from the user. when user enters some value , it triggers a method written in management bean which call a plsql api to calculate certain values to a attribute.
    In order to call a api i tried to create a new connection with the below code.

    Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    //getting Data Source details from the lookup
    DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("jndi name");
    //Getting connection from the current data source
    conn = ds.getConnection();

    after api call i closed this connection as well
    Does this new connection is creating any problem while updating ?

    Also i tried to get the current connection of the am using the bbelow method.

    private Connection getCurrentConnection() throws SQLException
    {
    /* Note that we never execute this statement, so no commit is really happening */
    PreparedStatement st = getDBTransaction().createPreparedStatement("commit",1);
    Connection conn = st.getConnection();
    st.close();
    return conn;
    }

    this method also gave me the same error message while am commiting my changes in the DB.

    Am not sure where am going wrong.
    kindly help me with this, i cant able to update any rows from UI.

    my EO is updatable, am is "optimistic"(jbo.lock.mode),
    jdev : 11.1.1.6

    DB:2.51:Another User Has Changed The Row With Primary Key Oracle.Jbo.Key[Trans_Id] zm

    Hi Frank..,

    so in my case i was using a decode statement on the VO to show a different value to the user instead of a DB flag.
    hence when i commit the changes it was comparing the decoded value with the original value and thrown the above error.

    i removed the decode statement and now its working fine while commiting.

    Is there a way to use a decode function on VO(created based on updatable EO) query to display the desired data to the user.

    Regards
    Siva

    DB:2.51:Commit s1

    Hi.

    Let say I logon to Oracle in my PC using Oracle ID sysadm.
    I'm going to delete a record in table A.
    The record won't be deleted until I enter COMMIT.
    Say, I havent COMMIT yet.

    Let say there is another connection to the same table A in other PC also using Oracle ID sysadm.
    This guy is inserting a record to table A and send COMMIT.
    Of course this COMMIT will not deleting the record which I haven't COMMIT yet.
    This COMMIT only man for the INSERT COMMIT.

    Question:
    How does Oracle differentiate my COMMIT and the other COMMIT in different Oracle session?

    Thanks.

    just to add another point
    SERIALIZABILITY is the word which is very appropriate.

    Doesnt matter how may users connect. the commands executed in Server in a Serial fashion.
    The priority of the commands executed depends upon the first command reaches the server.

    Read more about that topic SERIALIZABILITY in the available resources.
