DB:3.37:Xnabuild.Exe Seems To Have A Problem Opening Normally 33

First of all, thanks to everybody who has chimed in with details of thier install problems. And secondly, we apologize for the issues you're having. We are taking some steps to try to address this with new installers but it will be a few days before those are ready since the bulk of the team is at GDC this week.
In the meantime, if people encounter this issue here is a recap of the suggestions that most people have had success with:
    1) Save the file locally. Make sure the total file size matches the file size specified on the download page.
    2) Try running the EXE first. Keep in mind that it will need permission to create a subfolder in the directory you run it from. So for example, running it from a network share may pose permissions issues, and running it from a burned CD would also pose problems.
    3) If step 2 works, the MSI installer should launch automatically and the setup program will begin. But if it doesn't, you might get an error about it being unable to create the directory. Download a program like WinZip or WinRar and open the EXE file using one of those programs, then manually extract the files to a directory and run the .MSI.
I hope this helps some people - in the meantime, we'll keep working on those new installers.
    Thanks for your patience.

DB:3.11:Winzip Issue When Using Xp_Cmdshell In Local System Account dd

    Hi,
I have a SQL Server 2008 R2 in a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment and what I am trying to achieve is to zip a simple file using xp_cmdshell using local system account (On the services of the instance the account that I have used is Local System).
Whenever I execute xp_cmdshell to zip a file, it just froze and shows executing. The script that I am using is exec
    xp_cmdshell 'c:\program files (x86)\winzip\wzzip.exe c:\test.zip c:\test.txt'
but when I change the account to be used in the services.msc to a production account or any other local admin account, it zips the file with no problem.

If you also copy and paste the script to zip
c:\program files (x86)\winzip\wzzip.exe c:\test.zip c:\test.txt using the command prompt then it has no issue on zipping the file.

I believe I have narrow down the possible issue on the account permission of the local system but based from what I have read. Local system should have all the right and I have also checked if the folder can be access or if the local system has a permission
to the said location or winzip for that matter.
Thank you in advance. Let me know if there are any clarifications that I need to make.

DB:3.11:Winzip Issue When Using Xp_Cmdshell In Local System Account dd

    Hi Andrew,
I have checked the windows update if there are any missing or anything new installed, also the UAT was one of the things we have checked but to no avail.
Finally, after a month of doing countless attempts to the solution we were able to solve the issue by running a winzip script that will tell to be able to run it in the background as it seems to be hanging as it is waiting for an action to the user which
is strange as the wzzip.exe command is for command line processing.
Other issues similar to this problem was solved by using a non system local account but in our scenario we wanted to use local system which created a whole new problem.

i searched hi and low to see if anyone can get this working
and all i found was other developers having exactly the same
    problem.
    First things first:
    I have a Winzip Pro 11 licence.
I dont want to use java.util.zip as there no
    password/potection or encryption methods
I dont want to use someone else's CFX etc as none of them
allow encrypting with 256 AES or password protection.

I do want to know if there is an expert out there that can
successfully see me through a cfexecute calling wzzip, without the
    process hanging??

    cfexecute name="c:\progra~1\winzip\wzzip.exe /c
    E:\temp\test.zip E:\temp\test.txt" timeout="10"
    outputfile="E:\temp\dosoutput.txt" /

Starts a winzip process that never completes.

This works fine (either dumping on screen or to a text file):
    cfexecute name="cmd /c set" timeout="10" /

I'm wondering if the path to 'wzzip' should be added to
system path so we can do this:
    cfexecute name="wzzip /c E:\temp\test.zip
    E:\temp\test.txt" timeout="10" outputfile="E:\temp\dosoutput.txt"
    /

NOTE: I have tried all routes I am aware of e.g. wrapping the
command line in a batch file and executing that returns the same
    problem.

(Every time the process runs there is a temp zip file created
by Winzip of 0 bytes that is locked by the hanging Winzip process)

    otherwise - HHHEEELLLPPPPP..

    DB:3.11:Cfexecute z8

ok - i figured it out. It is purely a permissions issue.
I built a test page in classic asp and the zipping was
    successful.
Processof elimination led me to find user IIS used to process
asp pages had correct permission and the CF system user (even as

Don't know how zip files work but it looks like the file naming index and the pointers to the files within the zip might have been corrupted. Looks like a compatibility issue between the compression methods used by Winzip Windows 7.

    Hi Chetan123,
since the files were zipped using WinZip v11, the recipient should also use Winzip v11 to extract the files. The compression and decompression methods used by the compression engine in Windows 7 and Winzip isn't the same.

Ever since installing Visual Studio 2008, Winzip no longer works AT ALL on my system. I have read all the messages regarding bootstrapper this and that - I dont think thats so much the problem since I am talking about just general use of Winzip having nothing to do with Setups built in Visual Studio. One poster suggested replacing the Setup.bin file with the Visual Studio 2005 version. I tried that, it does not work. This is especially frustrating and work-prohibitive for us since we use Winzip a great deal each and every business day - NOT just for Microsoft, let alone Visual Studio purposes. Much of our business depends on distributing zip files to our field reps and at this point we are DEAD IN THE WATER. This is unacceptable, and we are NOT interested in Microsoft announcing that this willbe fixed in the next version - we cannot wait for any next version - we need this fixed now and if not, we will pursue full reimbursement for Visual Studio 2008 - after all, viruses disable programs and cause all sorts of business slowdowns with the associated costs (mounting everyday in our case) - and we did not expect Microsoft to distribute a destructive program (VS2008) and then casually announce they will fix this some time in the future. We have contacted WinZip directly seeking help, however as they have pointed out there is not much they can do since Microsoft is the cause of this problem.I need answers that work AND I NEED THEM NOW. If the solution is to uninstall VS2008, that is fine - we will stick with VS2005 and get rid of VS2008. Point is, I need this resolved now because everyday we are losing time, effort and dollars. Please post a workable solution now - DO NOT SUGGEST WE WAIT UNTIL SOME FUTURE RELEASE.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION...(Thanks to the Winzip Support Team for quickly resolving this for us!)1. Right Click on the Desktop Icon for Winzip2. Go to Properties3. Go to the Compatibility Tab4. Make sure the Run as Administrator Checkbox is UNCHECKED! (You may also want to apply this to all Users just below the Administrator checkbox)5. Click Apply, then OKProblem solved - all zips unzip, and zip correctly.(NOTE: There is a post out on the web that gives the exact opposite of this advice - THAT IS WRONG! Make sure this box is UNCHECKED and everything should work. This came directly from Winzip support, and it worked on all three of our hosed up machines running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, VS2008 and Winzip.)Odd how this problem happened for us on three machines, ONLY after installing VS2008. MS maybe jiggers permissions or something... Who knows. Thank God for the Winzip guys - great, quick, and effective support.

    DB:2.99:Corruptedcompressedfile With Winzip 12 (Lzma Compression) 33

Hi, I am running Exchange 2007 SP1 with Update Rollup 4, and ForeFront for Exchange with Update Rollup 3. When I send a zip file created with WInZip 12 (using LZMA compression), the file is stripped out, with ForeFront claiming the file is a CorruptCompressedFile.

I've tried to uncheck the option to Treat ZIP archives containing highly-compressed files as corrupted compressed, but this is not having any effect.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a solution?

Hello - we had the exact same build (E2K7 SP1 Rollup 4, Forefront for Exchange Rollup 3) ... we've been seeing this issue since we migrated to E2K7 3 months ago, started on Rollup 3.  We recently upgrade to E2K7 SP1 Rollup 4 and plan to go to Rollup 5 soon.  We have not found a solution to the problem.  Very interested!!

    DB:2.97:Re: Classpath Problem With Jdk1.5 79

    Hi,

cheers for your help guys but not quite there yet ...

That's because you haven't put javax.servlet into theCLASSPATH.

i had put it in the classpath !Like I said, you think you had. javac disagrees with you.

No, wrong, it's not. Servlets aren't part of anyJ2SE; they're in J2EE. If you're using Tomcat, it's in
    TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib/servlet-api.jar.

ok the rt.jar has the javax package and all the right
classes (i looked), but i just tried your suggested
one and same result anywayI haven't downloaded J2SE 1.5 yet, so I could be mistaken here. I'll ask you to check me on this. Since rt.jar is simple a ZIP file, can you open it in WinZip? If so, please do. Now go into that JAR and see if you can find the classes that the compiler is complaining it can't find in the import. Since you're working with servlets, I'll assume that you need javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet, javax.servlet.ServletException, etc. Do you see those classes in rt.jar? No? Then neither can the class loader.

Now go to your Tomcat installation (hopefully you weren't so foolish as to install it under "Program Files") and open TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib/servlet-api.jar with WinZip. Do you see those classes I mentioned above in that JAR file? Yes? That's why you need to get this JAR into the CLASSPATH.

I'm telling you that having a system environment variable CLASSPATH is a bad idea, but you're free to continue that way if you wish. I can promise you that you'll be back at the forum complaining, "But it IS in my CLASSPATH! I can see it!" until the lesson sinks in.

admittedly i havnt tried your ant build.xml suggestion
because its the same as doing it by passing it in the
command line (which doesnt work !)(sigh)

its a wierd one but keep going i appreciate it%

    DB:2.97:Re: Classpath Problem With Jdk1.5 79

FOUND IT !!you were on the right lines there - the import lines was wrong.Very good.

i had copied some code from a tutorial website (does that make it not my fault!)Careful here - EVERYTHING is your fault. You're always responsible for your code. You'll fix problems faster if you doubt yourself first.

javax.servlet is another package so should have read
    javax.servlet.*;Exactly.

looking through the orginal tutorial code there are
some classes that arent even in the jar fileAre they being used? You might still have a problem if the code needs those classes and can't find them.

well i think thats done it .

cheers for your help.Don't stop here. Make sure you read that link and understand CLASSPATH better before you proceed. That'll be worth more in the future than the fix to this trivial problem.

Some IMs give you file transfer, but I think FTP is your best bet. FTP the file to one of your home page storage areas and the user can pull it down the same way. You could also put a FTP servelet on your PC and have the recipient get it directly from your PC. It's faster than the dickens, too. Strictly speaking, you're not supposed to use your BB account for serving from your IP, but an occasional file transfer is under the radar. If you know HTML or use the wizard you can offer a password protected web link for the recipient to click to DL.

    DB:2.88:Winzip 14 File Association Message j7

I'm fairly new to App-V, so apologies if the solution is obvious. I'm sequencing WinZip 14.0 on a Windows 7 sequencer for use in Server 2008 Terminal Services (also tested on a Windows 7 client, same problem). The sequencing works fine, there are no problems
launching the application during sequencing. I am using App-V 4.6, entirely 32-bit for now.
When the package is run on the client I receive a file association message (presumably because .zip/.zipx are associated with sfttray.exe). The message can be cleared by each user, but I'd prefer it to not appear at all.
With WinZip installed locally the problem can be replicated by deleting the .zip/.zipx associations, and the message can be cleared by creating the string value HKCU\Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\WinZip\AssocMsgZipZipx and setting it to 0 (zero). I
have tried creating this value on the sequencer in the Virtual Registry (also AssocMsgZip as

suggested here , and both in the same location under HKLM) but it has no effect. I have launched RegEdit under the bubble and can see all the values correctly in place, but they seem to be ignored by the sequenced WinZip.
    Thanks.

    DB:2.88:Winzip 14 File Association Message j7

There seems to be two issues - one is if the zip or zipx file association is wrong. This results in a message which can be suppressed by AssocMsgZipZipx. There is also another check which isn't directly linked to filetype associations, but
presumably something to do with the registration of the WinZip executable - the resulting message is identical but needs AssocMsgExe to be set to suppress it. I look forward to version 15 when I'm sure they'll add another check which requires a
    third registry value.

DB:2.86:Windows Was Not Able To Load The Selected Backup Set For The Following Reasons fm

I could find no information on that specific error code - so we'll have to address the situation generically.
Here's an article on the restore procedure: http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-filesjust to make sure you're doing it right.
It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a complete restore of a complete backup) - but since you did a full backup it matches your process closer than a complete restore would.

This is an EXCELLENT article on the Backup and Restore Process in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspxbut it doesn't
go into great detail about the restore process - almost considering so easy it's self-evident. But it does teach you a lot about what is possible and how to do it.

Here's an article on how to use Advanced Restore (when normal restore doesn't work):
    http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

I also found the following (but don't know if it's true or not):
    1. After starting "Backup and Restore Center"
    2. I selected "Advanced Restore"
    3. I wasn't asked for an Administrator password....maybe because my account is an administrator account.
    4. Selected "Files from a backup made on a different computer"
    5. In the Dialog stating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "Hard disk, CD or DVD......"
    6. Under the drop-down box, select your drive/partition and continue

    7. If there are any backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.
    8. In my case, it did show a backup but in backup location, it will show "Backup location is not available."
    9. I was frustrated but then I somehow just selected that backup(yes....even though it said that the
    Backup location is not available"
    10. and pressed "Next"
    11. Guess what....not error!!!!!
    12. A window showed up asking me whether I wanted to perform complete restore or I would like to select specific folders/files.
    13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo...it restored them smoothly.
    14. So next time see an error, try to continue with it..;)
I don't know if this will help you, but it does provide a lot of information about the process (when it works). Hopefully you will find some error or discrepancy in your procedure and this will clear it up and allow you to restore.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

I've noticed that if I compress a single file that is larger than 4GB then OSX does not correctly report its size in the resulting archive. The finder has no problem de-compressing the file - so this may be something that has been overlooked by many. However, if you attempt to transfer to Windows and unzip using something like WinZip or 7Zip then these programs report issues (Winzip reports that the file size is smaller than the actual file size, 7ZIP reports a CRC error). The reported file size that results from the Finder's compressed file is actually the MOD of the actual file size against a 4GB limit. For example if the file were 6GB it would report 2GB.The workaround is to use the terminal and tar which will create a tgz archive that correctly reports sizes. Is this a known issue?

DB:2.86:Apparent Fault With Finder's Compress File/Folder Option jk

As mentioned, the workaround was to use tar on the command line, with the gzip option. The tgz files were readable by WinZIP on the Windows machine. It was the latest version of WinZIP. So I agree that is likely to be something particular to Finder's ZIP implementation

Try using something like netvampire.com .. it works for

You have to spot the download filename in the status

I cannot open it using winzip, why?

    DB:2.84:I Have Downloaded Oracle9ias Disk1 File: 1022ntdisk1_001.Zip,But a1

    Chen,

That file is just one piece of the whole zipped file. You need to download the three files:
    1022ntDisk1_001.zip
    1022ntDisk1_002.zip
    1022ntDisk1_003.zip

also you need to download the *.bat file.
    Then:
    1) copy all these files into a directory (e.g. /disk1)
    2) execute the batch file

This will concatenate (put together) the three pieces and you will have the 1022ntDisk1.Zip file which you will be able to decompress.

Note: The same process may be applied for the other to disks 1022ntDisk2 and 1022ntDisk3.

    Hope this will help you.

    Hardy.

    Howdy,

I have been having many problems with other people executing jar files. It seems to occur on Windows XP, mostly. I haven't really pinpointed the problem, however, here is what happens:

I create a jar file using eclipse (I have java 5.0 installed on my machine).

I then give the jar file to someone else, normally by uploading it to my website and then they download it.

When they do this and try to run it, winzip pops up and asks them to unzip it. So basically they can't run the program I just created. I can run it fine (Windows 2k pro) and my room mate (Windows XP pro), so I am not really sure whats going on. I make sure that they have java 5.0 installed.

Any help would be good. I browsed the forums here and wasn't able to find any threads about this.

    Thanks

Just open it with java using Open as.. . *.jar file type should be opend by java.exe - change your configuration fot this file type.

WinZip has changed its file format. It is possible that you are trying to open files in the new file format with a version of WinZip that isn't too old. Check WinZip's site. Also, ask the sender what version of Winzip they are using and ask them to
resend in the older format - that's an option in the new version.

A number of general internal improvements have been made to the WinZip program to enhance security and reliability. In the course of its internal review and testing, WinZip Computing also identified and addressed some specific cases where security vulnerabilities, including potential buffer overflows, existed in previous versions of WinZip.

As of the release of WinZip 9.0 SR-1, WinZip Computing was not aware that any of these vulnerabilities had been publicly described or exploited. However, WinZip Computing recommends that all WinZip users upgrade to WinZip 9.0 SR-1 to avoid the possibility of future exploitation of these vulnerabilities.

You don't need to use any program to unzip a zipped file in Windows 7 - it already supports both zipping and unzipping.

In Windows Explorer a zip file appears just like a directory and can be accessed in the same way.

DB:2.77:Desktop Manager Disabled But Dsm.Exe Is Running And Aero Troubleshooter Did Not Fix The Problem j3

    Hi benacounter 55,
    · Did you try changing the aero theme?
    · Is it a third party aero theme that you are using?
Try the following steps and check if it helps:
    Step 1:
Try changing the theme and check if it helps:
Change the colors on your computer
    Step 2:
Update the graphics card driver and check if it helps:
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly
    Step 3:
Place the computer in a clean boot state and troubleshoot the issue and check if it helps. You can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot
    helps eliminate software conflicts.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
(Step 1: Perform a clean boot)
If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the following KB article to narrow down the exact source:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Also, see the section on how return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual”, after performing the clean boot troubleshooting.
    Step 4:
Try creating a new user account and check if it helps. If the new user account works fine then, you might want to fix the corrupted user profile.
    Create a user account
    Fix a corrupted user profile

    Hope this helps.

I figured it out. The wzunzip.exe works like | more when you use the -vm option (View More). It reads a certain number of files, then, pauses, prompting the user for action. Not really a Powershell issue, but, as a hyopthetical,
how would I handle a prompt for user input with Start-Process?

I think you have misinterpreted the instructions.Read them again, and also save a copy of the additional PDF README that's linked on that page you referenced in your post. You don't open each individual file. You download all six files ( .001 through .006) and place all 12GB+ of them into the same location.Only after you have done that can you then invoke the 7zip utility onto the .001 file, which will unpack and concatenate them into a single result.

    DB:2.77:Problem With Visual Studio 2008 Installer Bootstrap (Setup.Exe) s8

I have a Visual Studio setup project that utilizes the Prerequisites installer bootstrap (setup.exe) which I have migrated to VS 2008.  I use Winzip Self Extractor to package the setup.exe and .msi into a single downloadable .exe file for my customers, they just run my .exe and it unpacks and kicks off the setup.exe generated by visual studio.I just noticed that after the upgrade to VS08, that setup.exe behaves a bit differently and my WinZip approach no longer works.  What used to happen is the setup.exe would stay running until msiexec had completed the installation and WinZip would simply wait for the setup.exe to exit before deleting the temporary extracted files.  Now, though, setup.exe exits immediately and doesn't wait for the msi to be installed so Winzip Self Extractor deletes the msi file (thinking it's done). What can I do about this?  I'm thinking of taking my old setup.exe file and using that with the 08-generated msi, or just ditching altogether the vdproj.  Are there any command line flags I can send setup.exe to have it behave in the same manner as before? Is there any documentation regarding the change I've run into?

DB:2.77:.Net App Checks For Original Install Location Before Running? s8

It appears that when I install/deploy my .NET 2.0 app using a Deployment Project within my app solution, the first time my app runs it checks the the MyApp.MSI in the location from where the install was originated.
Is there any way to prevent this behavior?  My app is NOT deployed as a ClickOnce app and is not published so I don't understand why this check is happening?
    My deployment files are:
    Setup.EXEMyApp.MSICRRedist2005_x86.MSI
What I usually do is combine these three files in a single WinZip self extracting to produce an end result of MyAppSetup.EXE.  This all works fine with ONE exception, WinZip self extractor will remove the above 3 files from the temp folder it creates.  This becomes a problem because when I click on the desktop shortcut to MyApp, it proceeds to search for the original install location -- which WinZip self extractor process has removed.
I assume .NET framework is doing this to be able to determine repair location?  Is there anyway to tell it NOT to do this?
    Thanks, Rob.

DB:2.77:.Net App Checks For Original Install Location Before Running? s8

Some problems witht he assumptions Microsoft have made.
    1.  If the original install was on a network drive which then disconnected, the product will not execute at all even thought it was successfully installed -- I'm all for repairs, but the way it's implement causes MORE significant problems then it tries to solve.
    2.  The process of searching for the original MSI should NOT prevent the application from running when the shortcut is clicked -- if it doesn't find it MSI it should still continue, not prompt with a message for the user to locate it (this IS DEFINITELY NOT END USER friendly) and if cancel is pressed then it should still continue to run the app, not just fail and do nothing.
    3.  The repair is triggered directly after the install when the users clicks on the shortcut -- this is apparently done once and only once.
The tool I'm using is what is provided with VS 2005.  Spending $4000/yr (more than the cost of my MSDN Universal subscription at $2500/yr) for a single dev license for InstallShield services is NOT an option.  The very fact that InstallShield can price their product at such a high cost is pretty indicative that Microsoft's OS and installation process is overly complicated for the task at hand -- and Vista has only made matter worse not better.
I realize, not your issue (hoping someone at Microsofts gets a clue, but I doubt they ever will) -- but thanks for the MSI setting and link to MSI building tools.  I'll investigate them as clearly what comes with VS 2005 is seriously limited (again more half hearted attempts from Microslop).
    Rob.

    Hi there,

I have zip files that are emailed to my work email address and I pick them up through Windows Live Mail. Recently I have not been able to unzip the files as Winzip comes back with a message saying "Error: Central directory not found".
If I get the email sent to my yahoo email address and pick it up through the web based yahoo email, I can open the zip file no problem.
I have tried WinRar, Winzip and Winzip 64bit all with similar messages from Windows Live Mail. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

If on the same laptop, I login to my domain provider and login to the webmail for my work email, I can download the winzip and open it without any issues.

My conclusion is that Windows Live Mail is doing something to the zip attachment.

I have unchecked the tickbox for "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" - get the email resent and still get the same message.

What has happened to Windows Live Mail with regard to zip files and how do I stop it happening?

    Thanks

    2. It occurred with all Zip files.

If you just want to notify the user about the failure you can have a send mail task linked to the Execute Process task and set the precedence constraint to fail, so that in case of the extraction fialing the user will be informed.

DB:2.70:Security Manager Increases Download Time pj

Nope, I haven't been able to fix my problem about not being able to boot into Windows yet. Here are a few things I have tried:

Yesterday, I bought a utility package called SystemSuit5 by V-com that comes with a program called Recovery Commander, but the Recovery Commander software wouldn't even startup right.

The Recovery CD (which is a Windows XP CD) that came with my Alienware system doesn't appear to give me a repair option when I boot from it (even though the Alienware binder that came with my system says it has numerous repair options when you boot from it).

I have used NTFS DOS to see the hard drive, but I am unable to edit the registry, as regedit will not work in DOS (and NTFS DOS may not support writing to the hard drive - I don't know for sure).

I have e-mails in to both V-com and Alienware to see if I can be provided with CD's that will do what they are supposed to...

I have one other possible option (but I'm holding off on trying it). I have a Windows 2000 CD that I can boot up with that offers a repair option (strange since I don't have 2000 install), and I was thinking about swapping the 2000 CD out for the XP CD, and then selecting repair and see if it repairs my XP installation. (I pulled a simular task once with Windows 98, but I fear there may be to many variables that I don't know about to try the same thing with the Windows 2000/XP CD's).

No, Winzip doesn't corrupt jar files. But if you have something else that expects to find X in the jar file and you deleted X, it isn't surprising that problems arise.

DB:2.69:Encrypt Text File Using Winzip 33

Using SSIS I want to encrypt a text file with a password. Do I need to use winzip to encrypt a text file by applying password? Or can I directly encrypt a text file without using winzip?
    Any ideas? Thanks.

DB:2.69:Sccm 2007 - Software Distribution To Clients With No Network Access (Possible By Using Task Sequence And Task Sequence Media?) ks

Hello specialists, after Google'ing and Bing'ing in this forum and the Internet I still found no final answer about my question: Can I distribute software (a package already existing within SCCM, e.g. WinZip) using a standalone media (CD) to a client which is mostly not connectet to my LAN? My problem of understanding is, that I can use the Create Task Sequence Media for Task Sequences only which have a boot image referenced. But why do I need a boot image when I want to distribute just WinZip from a CD to a client? My problem is that I need to install software on clients which are joined to our domain but which are not connected to the LAN (mainly support guys on the road having notebooks with no LAN, VPN,... possibility). Instead of receiving the software by LAN they should be able to insert a CD and install the software from this CD without having connection to the corporate LAN. Isn't this possible within SCCM? Thank you very much for your help to a SCCM beginner ;-) Greetings, Samoth

Hi Sherry, you are right - I wanted the ConfigMgr client to do the work (not the distribution as this is done by CD and postal service - but triggering the installation after the CD is in the client). Now I try to find out if I can force the SCCM agent on the client to install the software from the CD instead of installing it from a network distribution point. As the user has no admin rights, I need to ask the SCCM agent to do the installation. I will post here again as soon as I have found a solution (also If I haven't :-( ) Samoth
