    DB:3.83:Apex Returns Ora-00922 On Procedure Using Sql_Dbms.Parse 1p

    I'm unable to successfully execute a procedure that parses a procedure and adds lines to the procedure through my APEX app. The procedure runs fine outside of APEX, the procedure runs fine when executed within another procedure outside of APEX.
    I can not successfully execute the procedure in APEX, directly or through the parent procedure. The parent procedure will execute if the child procedure is commented out. The error ORA-00922 is given but there is only one variable passed in and I'm confident that variable is passed correctly.

    Just wondering why the APEX would choke on this. This is very similar to a procedure I wrote for OWS in the 90s and it worked perfectly. I use a similar procedure in a java application and it works perfectly.

    Form elements cannot be nested:Content model:Flow content, but with no form element descendants.As APEX already generates a form container on every page (via the #FORM_OPEN# and #FORM_CLOSE# substitution strings in page templates), additional forms can only be added in region positions located outside this container.Why do you want to add a non-APEX form?

    Hi All,

    We have recently upgraded our apex database from 10.2.0.3.0 to 11.2.0.2.0 using apex 3.2. We have been able to confirm that all apex applications work as expected apart from the apex ldap utility. The tool returns "Authentication failed!" even though the ldap server port and DN string have not changed from previously. We can confirm that ldap bind works as well as using the sql directly through the database.

    Has anyone come accross any problems with something similar?

    Thanks in advance,

    Karin,That is not possible on the database cloud. Your procedure would have to be authorized to be called (which it won't be on the cloud) and your procedure would need to be able to be publicly executable, which also is not allowed on the cloud.What you could do is create a RESTful service in SQL workshop that would accept your desired parameters, and then turn around and invoke the procedure using those parameters.Regards,Jason

    DB:2.69:Keep White Spaces And Carriage Returns? pf

    I'm using apex 3.0 and IE 7.There's your problem...

    IE6 (and, since there don't seem to be any docs saying anything different, presumably IE7) don't support white-space: pre in quirks mode. Don't ask me why - probably in one of MS efforts to "not break the web".

    All the APEX built-in templates are rendered in quirks mode as they don't supply complete DOCTYPEs. If you are using a standard APEX template or a custom template without a complete DOCTYPE declaration you are probably seeing this quirks behaviour.

    It looks like this will change in IE8.

    Hello everyone,

    I'm trying to solve this problem for a couple of days now and this thread is my last option.
    I'm using an EC2 Linux Oracle Enterprise 32-bit 11.1.0g Database with Apex 3.2. ( http://ec2-46-51-132-18.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com:8080/apex )

    The problem i have is very popular (when i access APEX, the images on the login page won't load).
    I have unzip APEX 4.0 in /apex

    I'm running "sqlplus /nolog connect sys as sysdba" from "u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/apex"
    Then i run "@apxldimg.sql /apex "
    It says PL/SQL procedure went fine:
    old 1: create directory APEX_IMAGES as '1/apex/images'
    new 1: create directory APEX_IMAGES as 'apex/apex/images'

    Directory created.

    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

    Commit complete.

    timing for: Load Images

    After all this and the images still won't load on the login page!

    Thanks for any help!

    As I said in the first line of my first post:

    Yes, you can. You need to do this in the page, region or report templates in the Shared Components area of the application builder.If you look there you will see the templates and all of the table related HTML tags. I would suggest you copy a template at a time and work with your copy so you don't hose up the standard Apex stuff.

    DB:2.63:Using Resourcetemplates To Create Anycharts Xml Fails... dc

    I created a Resource Template called "getChartData".
    The GET (Type - Media Resource) is defined as:

    select 'text/x-apex-html', xmlquery( f_getchartdata returning content)
    from dual

    (getchartdata is a procedure spitting out XML). If I run this from straight from the browser, it returns the correct XML structure.
    (Also when I replace that query with just select 'text/x-apex-html', f_getchartdata from dual it works ok).

    Now I want that output to be the input of an AnyChart chart. So in the Region Source of the chart I replace
    XMLFile=#HOST#apex_util.flash?p=APP_ID.:FLOW_PAGE_ID.:APP_SESSION.:FLOW_FLASH_CHART5_R#REGION_ID#"
    with
    XMLFile=http://localhost:7777/apex/getChartData (which should refer to the ResourceTemplate)

    but alas, that doesn't seem to work.

    Because I am not quite sure if XMLCallDate is added as a parameter, I created another Template with that parameter : getChartData?XMLCallDate={dummy}

    Any ideas, clues? Or is this - for one reason or another - never going to work?

    (Because it is related to the APEX Listener and APEX itself I'll cross post it - and will make a cross reference, so it doesn't matter where you post your answer, as long as you do ;-) )

    Thread in APEX Listener Forum : http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9418611

    TIA

    DB:2.63:Using Resourcetemplates To Create Anycharts Xml Fails... dc

    Very good tip indeed! I did that before, but didn't notice a tiny little thingy:
    The url that's called is :
    http://localhost:7777/apex/getChartData?xmlcalldate=1299508195101

    So with a in front of the parameter (and parameter in lowercase). So I changed the ResourceTemplate to : *getChartData?xmlcalldate={dummy}*
    And now it works like a charm!

    So that's (another) way to create customized XML for the AnyCharts!

    DB:2.63:V('App_User') Returns Null After 3.1 Upgrade Patch dx

    After upgrading recently to APEX 3.1 the function V('APP_USER') seems to return NULL in a PL/SQL procedure. I see that the FLOWS_030000 schema still exists in addition to the FLOWS_030100 schema, and the "V" function in both schemas is still valid. I tried using using the schema/function syntax in the PL/SQL procedure like flows_030100.V('APP_USER') and it still did not return any values I also tried creating a public synonym for the FLOWS_030100 "V" function and that did not work. Should the FLOWS_030000 'V' function be dropped, or can the entire FLOWS_030000 schema be safely dropped? Since the V function code is wrapped I can't easily proof it.
    Is there another solution other than the drop in replacement listed here?

    DB:2.60:Quick Help About Textarea Processing k9

    Hello,

    I am using Apex 4.0 using pl/sql gateway. I am puzzled with something.. gone over Apex books but couldn't find anything specific about it.

    Here is what I want to do. I have to present a text box (of item type textarea).. I expect my users to submit data in following format (multi column multi row input)

    a,b,c,d,e
    1,2,3,4,5
    k,l,m,n,k
    ....

    or simply single column multi row

    a
    b
    c
    ..

    After pressing submit button, APEX has to identify rows and columns and then call different procedure with the given input as arguments

    do_something (a) ;
    do_something (b) ;

    Once all rows are processed... I want to display results back by checking..

    check_something (a);
    check_something (b);

    This check_something can be a function that returns Success or Failure.. This is the big picture of the task.

    I could create pl/sql procedure for do_something and check_something.. but I couldn't attach them to submit button of the text area.. Also, I need to know how input from textarea can be parsed and passed to procedure or function. Any examples would be of great help.

    Thanks a lot!!!

    Hi,

    thanks to your complete report it seems easy to get a grip on your problem:
    install apex using @apexins apex apex temp /images/That's basically okay, but you can't use this images prefix with APEX Listener in Standalone Mode. The embedded web container used (currently) supports only a static context for both APEX ( +/apex/+ ) and the images ( +/i/+ - which is the default images prefix, by the way).
    I also execute apexldimage script and that script executed successfully but no success.That's not surprising, because this content is just useful when using the Embedded PL/SQL Gateway (EPG) to access your APEX. APEX Listener will use the contents of the directory you've defined with
    -Dapex.images=C:\oracle\db11g\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\apex\imagesSo, you either have one of the following two options:
    1) change the images prefix of your APEX instance (execute the script reset_image_prefix.sql in the utilities directory of your APEX installation package using sqlplus as sys)
    2) put a proxy in front of your APEX Listener that reverse proxies the +/apex/+ context and either servers +/images/+ or proxies it to the +/i/+ context of APEX Listener

    I'd recommend option 1)

    -Udo

    DB:2.58:Ora-02393 In An Apex Pl/Sql Procedure fz

    Hi,

    I have a PL/SQL procedure in APEX that runs queries against a remote Database using a DB link. I do multiple calls to the DB in a FOR LOOP query. The procedure is failing with the error: "ORA-02393: exceeded call limit on CPU usage"

    I was wondering if this could be caused by the way that APEX handles db sessions. How or when does APEX close the db session? Or is it leaving it open?

    Do you have any suggestions on how to close the DB session so I don't run into this error?

    Appreciate your help.
    Alejandro

    DB:2.58:Ora-02393 In An Apex Pl/Sql Procedure fz

    You want to add this to your DAD

    PlsqlMaxRequestsPerSession 100

    Where 100 is the max number of requests a database session will serve before closing. 100 is just an example. The highest number you can have without causing the issue would be what you want.

    By default, Mod_plsql uses a connection pool, and the default value is 1000 page serves prior to closing the session. PlsqlMaxRequestsPerSession will set that to the value specified.

    Hi,

    We have successfully integrated APEX page into EBS, i.e. we are able to invoke the APEX page from EBS Responsibility/Menu.

    for APEX integration, we have installed APEX on separate OHS on the same server as EBS (and same domain) and in the Form Function HTML call we are using "GWY.jsp?targetAppType=APEXp=160:10::" to invoke the APEX page.

    Issue is, the APEX page displays error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small", which we are not able to capture or supress.
    but the page functions as expected and insert/update of tables working fine, in short everything is as expected except that error message.

    In Before Header we are calling a custom procedure, which invokes "wfa_sec.getsession( l_username);" to validate the ICX session, this is raising the error.

    when i try call "ICX_SEC.getsessioncookie" before the above procedure, it returns valid Session ID and call to "ICX_SEC.check_session" returns VALID; i am not sure why it is throwing error to validate an available Valid session?

    All we want is to use the same ICX session in APEX page without need to pass the User name/password or re-login in APEX or set the User/Responsibility context again.

    any help would be appriciated.

    VPD is "Virtual Private Database" - it is often used within APEX to set up a particular context (such as the EBS one) because the DB is lost after each page has loaded.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to import an apex application by executing the exported clob as a ddl?

    ie - export the application to clob via wwv_flow_utilities.export_application_to_clob

    DB:2.55:Problems With Scheduling An Apex Procedure z3

    I have a procedure in apex that I need to run every 15 mins.
    The procedure is basically a list of basic update statements
    We have scheduled a job in enterprise manager to run the apex procedue, but it is failing.
    We think we know why, but don't know how to fix the problem.

    Basically every table in my app has a column called updated_by and holds the name of the user making the update. This is updated using a before update trigger and referring to v('app_user').
    When the procedure is run from inside apex, it works, but when run from the scheduled job,it fails because it does not recognise app_user.

    I do not want to disable and then enable the triggers, because this would cause problems for other people using the app.

    Any ideas appreciated

    Hello,

    Go to SQL Workshop - Object Browser - and hit the create button on the right side and select function, procedure or package...

    Alternatively you may want to use SQL Developer, which is a great (and free) tool to help you write plsql and sql code.

    DB:2.53:Get Cgi Environment From Apex Listener Within Database Procedure 8a

    I have seen a few topics on this forum that briefly touch on this issue, but nothing real definitive. I'd like to know how I can get the CGI environment from the APEX Listener. For example, if I want to write a procedure that inserts into a table the originating IP Address of the client making the web request, how do I get it?

    I am familiar with the Oracle Http Server and mod_plsql, and I know how to call OWA_UTIL.GET_CGI_ENV to get this sort of information. How do I do it using the APEX Listener?

    In particular, how do I do this when calling a custom procedure (not in an Apex workspace)? When I try it now, I get an error from owa_util. The cgi env seems to be empty or not initiated (owa.num_cgi_vars is null or zero).

    Specific set-up:
    I have a web server running the latest JDK, Glassfish, and Apex Listener. It connects to another server running the latest 11.2 database. Apex is installed and running, but I am not really developing a traditional Apex application in a workspace. I mainly use it like you would use mod_plsql. In other words, I have custom pl/sql packages that are called directly via URL. The requests are forwarded by the listener to the database, and the DB executes the procedure and returns output using htp.p to send text back to the browser. And it works just fine for this purpose. But if I want to call GET_CGI_ENV to get information like the IP Address, web browser making the request, etc. I can't seem to get it with the OWA packages.

    Can anyone shed some light on this? If Apex Listener is not designed to do this, is there some kind of workaround I can use to forward this sort of information to the database for each request?

    Edit: I should clarify that when I said I have the "latest" Apex Listener, I don't have the new 2.0 pre-release. I'm on 1.1.4.

    DB:2.53:Get Cgi Environment From Apex Listener Within Database Procedure 8a

    Answered in the APEX forum: Re: Get CGI env variables in a database procedure using new APEX Listener

    Basically it was working the entire time but I could not call the OWA packages directly because they were blocked by the internal exclusion list.

    DB:2.53:Strange Behavior When Searching A Phrase Using Reg Exp And Dynamic Sql mm

    Hi,

    I have a strange issue while using dynamic sql for an apex page. I have a requirement to search a string in the database column which is entered by user on a page item. The search process should search the whole phrase only.

    I have a query generated dynamically in the back end and use it in a cursor in the stored procedure

    SELECT t.group_cn , t.group_desc, t.group_type, t.partner_organization_id, t.partner_organization
    FROM vr_idm_group t WHERE regexp_like(t.group_desc,'(^|\W)HR Selection Assignment(\W|$)', 'i')The pl sql code with the dynamic sql statements are below.

    IF p_search_process NOT in ('PARTNER') THEN
    OPEN v_cursor FOR v_sql;
    ELSE
    OPEN v_cursor FOR v_sql USING p_search_id;
    END IF;
    LOOP
    FETCH v_cursor INTo v_obj.group_cn, v_obj.group_desc, v_obj.group_type, v_obj.partner_organization_id,
    v_obj.partner_organization, v_obj.match_count;
    EXIT WHEN v_cursor%NOTFOUND ;
    v_search_array.extend;
    v_search_array(v_search_array.last) := v_obj;
    dbms_output.put_line(v_sql);
    END LOOP;The search works fine if the search string does not contain any special character like ,- etc.

    However, if the search string contains any special character, it does not return any thing. This strange issue happens only if I call the procedure from the apex page and the search string contains a special character. (please note that the procedure works fine even from apex if the string does not have a special character). When I debugged this, found that, the cursor does not fetch any rows (it is supposed to fetch two rows) for unknown reason. When I run the query separately, it returns the two rows (in which the column group_desc contains the search string "HR Selection Assignment") as desired. Also, when I test the procedure in the back end (PLSQL developer), it works fine.

    Any idea, what is causing this strange behaviour?

    Advance thanks.

    DB:2.51:Get Cgi Env Variables In A Database Procedure Using New Apex Listener zj

    I already posted this question in the Apex Listener forum and still no replies after one week. The original post is here:
    Get CGI environment from APEX Listener within database procedure

    So please forgive me for posting in this forum as well, but there is a lot more activity here.

    I have a web server running the latest JDK, Glassfish, and 1.1.4 Apex Listener.

    DB:2.51:Get Cgi Env Variables In A Database Procedure Using New Apex Listener zj

    It works. The issue was that direct calls to OWA packages were blocked by the internal exclusion list in the Apex Listener. This was easily tested with:
    create procedure show_env as
    begin
    sys.owa_util.print_cgi_env;
    end show_env;So it was working all along!

    Hi,

    I am looking for a way to use procedure OWA_UTIL.redirect_url to redirect Apex Application URLs to some user friendly name in Apex 3.2 in Oracle 11.2 database. It used to be very easy when I used Apex 3.1 using Apache server with Oracle 10g database where we can edit httpd.conf.

    DB:2.51:Using Set Role Within A Pl/Sql Procedure cc

    To answer the question why? I am using MS Access as the user-interface to a backend Oracle database. Until yesterday I was unaware of Access' ability to issue "pass-thru" queries. Since all I had were linked tables and views, I thought that the only way I could execute a procedure on the server side from an event occuring on the client side was thru a trigger. With "pass-thru" queries, my problem is now solved.

    It was an interesting exercise to find that there is NO way to issue the SET ROLE command from a trigger. Using invokers-rights, autonomous transactions, etc. all failed.

    Hello all,

When I submit a page, it always returns on the first tab. On apex 3.2 I fixed this using the jQuery cookie include to remember the last tab. Does anyone know, whats the best way to implement this on Apex 4.1?

    select SYS_CONTEXT ('RISK_CONTEXT', 'NLV_TOTAL_RISK') from dualHowever, it I perform the same* SELECT in APEX SQL Workshop/SQL Commands, it returns NULL.

    Moreover, selecting from any views which use the SYS_CONTEXT calls returns NULL for any columns based on a SYS_CONTEXT variable, e.g. default interest rate. So, any such report regions are returning NULL values for these columns. The whole point of implementing this was so that we could remove hard coded thresholds from our views and paramterize them. Everything was going fine until we actually tried to use them in APEX.

    Has anyone encountered this? I can't even figure out how I would make them not visible to APEX if I wanted to.

    Thanks, Paul. That did work!

    One question...what exactly am I overriding by doing this? I assume APEX has some reason for setting the client identifier. For example, could doing this cause any sort of consurrency issue?

    Is there anyway that this could be set only on the particular pages that use these views rather than application wide? There are only about 5 pages that will be using these sort of views.

    PL/PDF really has nothing to do with Apex. It's just a bunch of PL/SQL packages in the database that you can call from ANY kind of application that connects to the database.

    What should i put in: "PL/PDF API Calls Here"?Well, that is described in the pl/pdf manual. Pl/pdf creates a pdf document in a BLOB.

    DB:2.49:Returning Autogenerated Column From Procedure 38

    Hi Rampa,

    You are not event trying to inserting p_poid into the table, why not?

    But even if you did, this would be a case of misused OUT parameter.

    When you do this:
    SELECT pkseq.NEXTVAL
    INTO p_poid
    FROM dual;the value pkseq.NEXTVAL is assigned to p_poid at the time of exiting the the procedure. So p_poid is NULL when inserted in the table.

    Do something like this (Note that NEXTVAL is used in value list, no need for an explicit select from dual)

    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE ins_pur_order(
    p_poamt IN NUMBER
    ,p_podate IN DATE
    ,p_poid OUT NUMBER)
    IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO pur_order

    VALUES (pkseq.NEXTVAL, p_poamt, p_podate)
    RETURNING poid
    INTO p_poid;

Since I want to implement security for some tables, example:Table Employee has columns email and credit_card_num. These 2 columns are encrypted using DBMS_CRYPTO.My Oracle Database version in Oracle XE 11g Release 2.So I have stored procedure and package for encryption and decryption using dbms_crypto.When I add new employee in APEX form email and credit card number are passed as plain text and saved on that way in database.1. How can I make it to be saved as encrypted value using package and procedures I've created in the database (to parse the inserted value to function)?2. Since I am a total dummy and newbie at Apex can anyone explain me how does Apex really work? Is the inserted data sent in plain text or encrypted over network?Thank you

    DB:2.49:Calling Stored Procedure From Apex 7z

    In addition you should encrypt sensitive items in APEX session state (such as credit card). This ensures that you don't end up with a situation where you have encrypted the item value in the database tables, but they are stored in plain text within APEX session tables.[APEX Item] - Security - Store value encrypted in session stateregards,

Can you easily call a procedure that returns a ref cursor from APEX? IN addition, for editing/inserting, can you send parameter values to a store procedure that does the DML? I'm fairly new to APEX,

    I succesfully created a form based on a stored procedure using the wizard. The form performs as expected, returning a log-code, with which I (in an added region) can see what happened.

    I want to inspect the result before performing (via a stored procedure) a logged commit OR rollback. But it seems that the form auto commited the executed procedure.

    Is there a parameter within APEX to influence this auto-commit, enabling me to perform the wanted functionality

    DB:2.47:Auto Commit Within Stored Procedure? sk

    Apex, like most web tools, does not (cannot) maintain a server transaction between pages. When you submit the page, it connects to the database, performs the required processing, and disconnects. It therefore has to commit before disconnecting, otherwise you could never save any changes at all.

    You would need to break your process into two phases:
    1) Perform processing, save results so they can be viewed, rollback the processing. Display the results.
    2) If user accepts the results, perform processing again and this time commit.

    Of course, you need to consider whether anything could have changed between phase 1 and 2 such that they aren't accepting what they think they are accepting, and if so what to do about it...

    Dear All,

    Hi
    I would like to Publish a web servive using APEX.
    As far as I can see APEX is used to Consume other web services - NOT to publish a web service for others to consume?

    Can apex publish a DB procedure as a web service?
    IF not what is the easiest way to achieve this?

    We have Oracle 11g.

    Hi,

    Is there anything similar to "SET TIMING ON" in APEX that gets the time taken to execute a query in 00:00:00:00 format. I need the time taken to execute a "SELECT" statement.

    I'm trying to write to

    I create a page using form based on procedure option. I have a date picker item in the form that corresponds to a date parameter in the procedure.

    I select every date format APEX provided from APEX date picker and always got ora-01843(not a valid month) error when I tried to sumbit the form.

    I have changed PICK_DATE_FORMAT_MASK to DD/MM/YYYY at application level but cannot solve the problem.

    Does anyone using a "Form on Procedure" and happen to have a date column? Do you have similar problem?

    ps. this problem only occurs to "Form on Procedure". I have no problem with master details or many other form options. I am using APEX 3.1.

    DB:2.46:Ora-01843 When Form Is Based On Procedure dk

    Yes, I tried 06/06/2009 and got same erro message.

    I have made it work. I have to change Globalization data format to "DD/MM/YYYY" as well. Change only on PICK_DATE_FORMAT_MASK is not enough. Cheers,

    Hi,

    We have a pl/sql procedure that is called from a URL. From within the procedure we query the APEX_APPLICATIONS view to retrieve the workspace id that is then used to call wwv_flow_api.set_security_group_id. This was working prior to upgrading to Apex 4 but now has stopped working.

    It appears to be a permissions issue when querying the APEX_APPLICATIONS view as the procedure is failing with No Data Found.

    We also have the same problem when querying the APEX_APPLICATION_FILES, it returns no rows. If I query the table from SQL Workshop it returns data!!!!

    DB:2.45:Call A Stored Procedure Which Returns Some Non-Entity Data fx

    Hi,
    If you use EF1 (VS2008 SP1) then you can create a custom entity and map the stored procedure to it. There is an example how to do that here:

    http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/gilf/archive/2009/03/13/mapping-stored-procedure-results-to-a-custom-entity-in-entity-framework.aspx
    In EF4 (VS2010) you can map the stored procedure to a complex type. You can read about how to do that here:

    http://thedatafarm.com/blog/data-access/a-big-step-for-stored-procedures-in-ef4/
    I hope it will help you.Gil Fink

    Hi,

    that has nothing to do with APEX, this is still a database problem.

    In your database you need to define an Oracle Directory to tell the DB which OS Directory it can access.

    select count(id) into per from mistakes
    where CREATING_DATA - TO_DATE(:P27_X,'DD.MM.YYYY')=0
    and CREATING_DATA - TO_DATE(:P27_X2,'DD.MM.YYYY')=0;

    and m.status=e.id
    group by e.name,e.id';
    end if;
    end if;
    end;
    //------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Then I have to add to this report one more chart (with the same construcion, but with different return qurery) and report (with another another construction and data).

    P.S. It is not convinient to write a huge SQL query with all this data. It would be much more easier if I can add more than one query in my XML.

    DB:2.44:Apex Listener And Epg - Strange Behaviour 9p

    Hi

    For some years, I've used EPG for APEX but have struggled with performance particularly as I can have up to 150 student developers using at any one time.

    I do a fair amount of work using ORDImage and have successfully developed APEX applications to upload image files and display full-size and thumbnail images.

    After upgrading to APEX 4.1 (from 4.0), I decided to install APEX Listener standalone.

    Before I did so I checked that my applications still worked in 4.1 and they did.

    However, just installing APEX Listener but not configuring it (yet) has meant that my image display in a report using a procedure based on wpg_docload.download_file( l_ordimage_image.source.localData ) no longer works in EPG - the images are not displayed.

    Configuring APEX Listener and running the same application through that DOES display the images.

    So this part of the application works under APEX Listener but not under EPG.

    My application also allows users to upload images from APEX_APPLICATION_FILES using standard code. Under APEX Listener after uploading, I'm left with a blank page with a wwv_flow.accept URL although the image does indeed upload. Under EPG it works as expected and I get a success confirmation.

    So this part of the application works under EPG but not under APEX Listener.

    Has anyone else come across different behaviour depending on the mode of connection?

    Thanks

    Brian

    DB:2.44:Apex Listener And Epg - Strange Behaviour 9p

    Hi Brian,

    that's unexpected. Are you sure you already used this port for APEX Listener at the first start when the mysterious side effects occured? Because that part is really odd and I'd like to separate the two issues...
    This may seem a dumb question but where can I find the APEX Listener logs?It doesn't to me. The answer depends on how you deployed your APEX Listener. I assume you currently use the standalone mode. In that case, there is no actual log file, but the output produced on the console where you started the APEX Listener. Additionally, there is an error log in the "Status"-Tab of "/apex/listenerAdmin" or directly in "/apex/listenerStatus".
    Please also post which JDK version you use to run the APEX Listener.

    Thanks,

    The pipe-delimited method should work well. Say you have an item on page 1 (P1_X), just make the URL like: ../pls/apex/f?p=100:1:::NO::P1_X:a|b|c|d

    DB:2.43:Branch To Procedure In Database And Pass Parameter 37

    I have a branch which is a procedure in my database like this
    127.0.0.1:8080/apex/pnpkg_utility.report_timehr_analysis

    In this procedure I need to access a query string which I have stored as an item in the calling page. I cannot pass the string as a parameter as it's quite long and contains punctuation such as colon, quotes and so on

    How do I access an item from a procedure? when i try something like this
    v_sql:= v('MY_SQL') it returns null

    DB:2.43:Branch To Procedure In Database And Pass Parameter 37

    Thanks for the suggestion. However that does not work for me as my procedure opens an Excel in a new window. Part of the code is " owa_util.mime_header(ccontent_type ='application/vnd.ms-excel');".

    When I call it from a page process, no new window appears.

    I did a workaround by saving the query sql and the session id to a table and pass the sessiod id in the url call

    I am not able to find any useful information but can I write the OUT variable to an APEX item e.g. :P50_HELP := OUT_MSG; ?

    The written procedure has 5 OUT parameters and running the pl / sql procedure returns "no data found": ORA-01403

    My only question is: Can APEX handle multiple out parameters or should I try to bypass this procedure?

    Hi, We are using APEX 4.0, 10g. In one of our instances, the call l_rec_hdr.created_by := xxmc_apex_api.userid (v ('APP_USER') for our APEX solution returns a "-1", ie. v('APP_USER') does not have a value. I feel that it is an APEX installation issue. Need some pointers to determine why this occurs on this instance and what the DBAs need to look into.Many thanks in advance.Ed.

    DB:2.43:V ('App_User') Does Not Return A Value 1c

    You need to have an authentication scheme setup which will run the apex login procedures and pass through the user id or else apex won't know who the current user is.I have implemented quite a few applications using SiteMinder SSO and they work beautifully using the HTTP Header Authentication method and pointing it to the header variable populated by the SiteMinder agent with no custom sentry functions needed to pass the credentials. There are many implementations possible with SSO though and without specifying which one you're using I can't really say for certain what the issue might be. Oracle's SSO is really the only documented SSO method from Oracle and should work seamlessly if everything is setup properly including the partner binding and APEX Authentication scheme.

I don't want the two sources to inadvertently get out of sync.

    DB:2.42:Re: Call To Procedure Returns Result Above ≪Head≫ Tag.. 3z

    I agree about the 'LONG' being antiquated, a lot of the code is, as it was first written in the late 90's to early turn of the century; anyway I have not got the full report showing yet, I just disabled the call to the RUN_MONTHLY_BILLING proc and the rest came up so I know that there is an error somehow in there, though none of that code should have been touched so I don't know why it would be producing an error now unless inadvertently modified by someone.

    And to be totally honest, I think the real issue resides with me...I have never used WebDB or APEX before this project and there are no knowledge resources on site beyond the three APRESS books on APEX that I have here, so your patience and perseverance proved invaluable to troubleshooting this issue.

    It appears that APEX does not like to use contexts. So we have went another route. We have 2 issues we cannot seem to overcome. First, we are trying to create reports based on multiple criteria. To do this we have to build an sql string based on data returned from controls. Second, we need to perform an in statement in this sql to return data based on multiple cost centres.

    I cannot figure out how build and sql string from a control and run it. I am having tremendous difficulty getting over this hump. Any help would be appreciated.

    DB:2.41:Search Returns Text Instead Of Columns m1

    Hi,
    I would like to implement an address search to enable a user to find the school or schools closest to their geographic location.
    The search will only return one record per match. But if there is a match, I would like to return descriptive text paragraph
    instead of field columns. The school closest to their location would be embedded in the descriptive text.

    For example, a user enter an address. The system would returns one and only one of any of the following three
    choices based on the search.

    Choice A.
    You can attend School_A.

    Choice B.
    You can attend School_A and School_B.

    Choice C.
    You can attend School_A, School_B, School_C.

    My thoughts were to create a procedure using htp. Is there any other way to do this in APEX without having

    DB:2.41:Can I Restore The Apex Session Environment In A Seperate Database Session? 77

    Hi folks.

    - My application creates collections.
    - At some points in the application I perform a URL redirect to a custom stored procedure.
    - This stored procedure needs to access one of these collections.
    - Apparently the Apex session environment is not available in the database session that executes my custom procedure. v('SESSION') and v('FLOW_ID') both return NULL. wwv_flow.get_sgid returns 0.
    - These three items are required to hold values for APEX_COLLECTIONS to cough up my collection.

    Can I restore these session values in the database session that executes my stored procedure?

    Toon

    PS. Tracing reveals that Apex calls owa.init_cgi_env. I'm assuming that apex-session gets restored in somewhere early inside function f though.

    You can probably do what you want with an ON DEMAND Application Process.Anton, you were right.

    I've created an on demand process that calls my stored procedure.

    Then I've used the :Optional URL Redirect" section of the button as follows:

    Target: page in application
    Page: 0
    Request: APPLICATION_PROCESS=name of my on-demand process

    My stored procedure now executes with the complete Apex-session state available to me.

    Thanks,

    DB:2.41:Using Resourcetemplates To Create Anycharts Xml Fails... 9j

    XMLFile=#HOST#apex_util.flash?p=APP_ID.:FLOW_PAGE_ID.:APP_SESSION.:FLOW_FLASH_CHART5_R#REGION_ID#"
    with
    XMLFile=http://localhost:7777/apex/getChartData (which should refer to the ResourceTemplate)

    but alas, that doesn't seem to work.

    Because I am not quite sure if XMLCallDate is added as a parameter, I created another Template with that parameter : getChartData?XMLCallDate={dummy}

    Any ideas, clues? Or is this - for one reason or another - never going to work?

    (Because it is related to the APEX Listener and APEX itself I'll cross post it - and will make a cross reference, so it doesn't matter where you post your answer, as long as you do ;-) )

    Thread in APEX Forum : http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2186909

    DB:2.41:Using Resourcetemplates To Create Anycharts Xml Fails... 9j

    Using the correct Content-Type doesn't help, but returns a better result (XML like).
    The actual issue was the parameter AnyCharts is adding. So the correct Template should be: getChartData?xmlcalldate={dummy} (notice the !).
    And indeed, my naming convention could be better...thanks for pointing that out!

    For the actual solution see the thread on the APEX Forum (link in first post of this thread).

    HI

    We have created an APEX 3 application that contains a button and when the button is pressed I want to call a procedure that submits a concurrent request and
    displays the concurrent Id that has been submitted.

    I have created a pl/sql function on the database that submits the concurrent request successfully and returns the concurrent request Id when run in sqlplus or using toad, however when I try to call the same function through htmldb/apex it always returns 0 for the concurrent request Id and does not submit the job.

    Has anyone else successfully managed to run concurrent processes from APEX? Are there any specific grants on the fnd packages that need to be made to allow apex to call them?

    If APEX applications are accessed through Oracle applications should you be able to pick up the USer,REsponsibility information using user profile APIS fnd_profile.get?

    DB:2.41:Trouble Calling Htp In A Web Service Procedure jx

    I have a procedure that I was calling directly within an APEX application that allowed the user to download XML files, as follows:

    PROCEDURE download_my_file (
    p_resid IN VARCHAR2
    , p_filename VARCHAR2
    , p_filter_str IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL
    )
    AS
    v_mime VARCHAR2 (48) := NULL;
    v_length NUMBER;
    v_file_name VARCHAR2 (2000);
    v_clob CLOB;
    v_buf VARCHAR2 (32000);
    v_amt NUMBER := 4000;
    v_pos NUMBER := 1;

    BEGIN
    IF p_filter_str IS NULL
    THEN
    SELECT EXTRACT (VALUE (r), '/*').getclobval ()
    , DBMS_LOB.getlength (EXTRACT (VALUE (r), '/*').getclobval ())
    INTO v_clob
    , v_length
    FROM TABLE (XMLSEQUENCE ((SELECT xdburitype (any_path).getxml ()
    FROM resource_view
    WHERE resid = p_resid))) r;
    ELSE
    v_clob:= repos_datasets.dyn_dset_licensed_location_xml(p_filter_str=p_filter_str);
    v_length:=DBMS_LOB.getlength (v_clob);
    END IF;
    --
    -- set up HTTP header
    --
    -- if it is a null set it to application/octect
    -- application/octect may launch a download window from windows
    OWA_UTIL.mime_header ('text/xml', FALSE);
    HTP.p ('Content-length: ' || v_length);
    HTP.p ('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="' || NVL(p_filename,'user_query.xml') || '"');
    OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;

    BEGIN
    v_pos := 1;

    LOOP
    DBMS_LOB.READ (v_clob
    , v_amt
    , v_pos
    , v_buf
    );
    v_pos := v_pos + v_amt;
    HTP.prn (v_buf);
    END LOOP;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND
    THEN
    NULL;
    END;
    END download_my_file;

    The procedure works perfectly when a process calls the procedure directly from the database, however, I now have a requirement whereby this download facility needs to be accessed through a web-service: merely creating a web-service for the procedure and running it through a page process returns a 'ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error' message. I assumed as APEX is a web environment that the htp package functions would use the session that APEX had started but obviously they are not.

    How would I go about manually creating a session (I presume that's what's required) that would support the htp calls and allow the user to download the files exactly as they could with a direct call to the database procedure? I know it involves some initialization using the OWA package but this is alien territory for me, can anyone help at all?

    DB:2.41:Trouble Calling Htp In A Web Service Procedure jx

    Has anyone come across a similar scenario? There are plenty examples of calling web-enabled procedures directly from APEX but I must call such a procedure through a web-service reference. Failing anyone having a similar problem, could someone explain to me how the Common Gateway interface variables are set when an APEX application calls a web enabled procedure?

    I've included the code for the procedure I'm trying to run which I have altered to include CGI environment parameters: I'm getting these parameters by calling owa_util.get_cgi_env in the calling APEX application and passing the individual values to the procedure through the web service reference. I chose those variables I thought would tell the procedure where to return the HTML to but I'm just getting a blank page.

    Anyone any suggestions? (code below)

    PROCEDURE download_my_file (
    p_resid IN VARCHAR2

    DB:2.41:Running Non-Apex Pl/Sql Web Toolkit Code Using Apex Listener 2.0 3z

    Greetings,

    I am finding bits and piece of information but really need a complete picture of how to run my general Non-Apex PL/SQL Web Toolkit procedures using an existing install of the newest Apex Listener 2.0. I've been using the Embedded Gateway (DBMS_EPG) but now need to expose the procedures from a web server (for security purposes), especially now that I can take advantage of flexible parameter passing and other features available in the later versions of the Apex Listener. I've used OHS/mod_plsql in the past and more recently the embedded gateway. I should note the existing install of the Apex Listener is also being used for our Apex application as well.

    So I understand the general concept of forming the URL like I used to with OHS/mod_plsql:

    http://host:port/apex/!scott.flexible_params?x=johny=10z=doe

    My questions are as follows:

    1. I understand /apex to be a DAD configured within the listener. Fine. Do I need (and is it possible) to configure another DAD for my Web Toolkit application?

    2. To execute a procedure as shown above under the Apex DAD, how do I know which user is configured for that DAD?

    3. What steps do I need to take (grants, configurations, etc) do I need to take in order to run a non-Apex procedure using the Apex Listener 2.0?

    Many Thanks,
    Dale

    Dale Ward wrote:
    Colm,

    Thank you for taking the time to respond. Your answer was very helpful and I feel much more comfortable going down this path. My so-called non-Apex application is actually just a RESTful web services engine driven by stored SQLX statements. As a result, the features I need from the Listener is literally limited to support for HTP.P, Flexible Parameter Passing (which I'm comfortable exists in usable fashion in 2.0) and access to the CGI Environment variables via owa_util.get_cgi_env (which I assume the Apex Listener still supports?)

    From your statement about the differences between the Apex Listener and mod_plsql, I am curious if those difference include anthing of significance in your view.Nope, nothing of significance, I think you should also look at the RESTful Web Services functionality in Listener 2.0.x, one of the powerful features in 2.0.x is that when using a PL/SQL handler RESTful Services operate in a proper OWA environment, meaning the RESTful Service can invoke owa_util.get_cgi_env etc., you would be able to support the HTTP PUT and DELETE methods if you go down this route.

    The 2.0.2 release includes new documentation on developing RESTful Services (in the 2.0.2 download zip) , have a look, and if you've any further questions, ask away.
    Thanks,

    That is the LEAST of your problems. Besides - you are already setting it to zero so that is what it will be.But you are violating basic principles of dynamic SQL.1. Don't try to automate what you can't do manually. If you executed that statement manually you would discover that is is INVALID.alter system set resource_manager_plan='DEFAULT_PLAN' scope='both';2. ALWAYS construct the query into a string variable3. ALWAYS output the query first to the console using DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE so you can then execute it manually to test it4. ALWAYS use an exception handler since the caller will have NO way to understand/interpret errors caused by the misuse of dynamic sql
