    DB:4.30:Pivot Chart Select Data Source Buttons Greyed Out 1p




    I've created a new workbook and in it I created a new pivot table and chart. When I right-mouse-click on the chart and choose Select Data then the Select Data Source dialog box opens. However, only the Switch Row/Column button is active. Under the Legend
    Entries section (on the left) the Add, Edit, Remove, Move Up, and Move Down buttons are all greyed out. Under the Horizontal Axis Labels section (on the right) the Edit button is greyed out.

    I'm using Office 2013 from my current Office subscription. The workbook and worksheets were left at their defaults. Protection was not turned on. How do I enable editing within the Select Data Source dialog box?

    I just gone thru a dashboard and wanted to make same. I have 4 buttons for(straight table , pivot table , bar chart , line chart).

    Now, I want a single chart where if i select pivot table then it show pivot table. If i select Straight table function then it should show Straight table data and so on. By default Straight table data is shown.

    Note: I must have only one chart where all this data is to be show. How can i do this ??

    no need to create 4 different charts,just clone(right click on ur chart object select clone and change the chart type from general tab) it and apply the condition on layout tab.

    When I try to use a value filter on a value field in a Pivot Table nothing happens. I get no error message, the dialog box accepts the filter information, but the data in the pivot table doesn't change.
    Label filters also behave the same way - dialog box works, but no change to the table.
    Trying to select individual values from the filter menu also produces no change in the pivot table.

    I have hit road blocks with PIVOT TABLES in this regard as well. Found that the DCOUNTA formula inherit to Excel 2010 suffices and allows for far better filtering functionality. There are many other DATABASE type formulas available as well... fyi.

    Have a series of subs that run, including subs that update chart source data.
    But no matter what I try, the routine will not update a pivot table [pivottable2].
    Have tried..
    ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAll and
    ThisWorkbook.RefreshAll
    ... Even both !!
    Then I tried at the end of the routine --- Application.Run (ChosenPivots) ...

    After reading your problem, I found it is a Excel development one. Do you use the Excel reference in Access or you have posted in the wrong forum? If you have posted on the wrong forum, I can help you move to the Excel for developers.
    Besides, what is the version of your Excel application. My version is Excel 2010, I tested on my side with ActiveWorkbook.RefreshAlland it works well.
    This does not update PivotTable2 during the routine.
    Have you step into the routine and execute the RefreshTable method? I guess your data may not be changed or it does not retrieve the PivotTables in the sheet. Try to debug to see whether it belongs to such scenario.
    If the issue still happens, it will be nice if you can send a copy of your project via my email
    v-bpeng@microsoft.com, I will do furhter research on my side.

    It seems like the Change Data Source feature of Pivot Tablesis disabled in Excel 2013 when they are built on the Data Model (PowerPivot).
    To reproduce: just create a simple table in Excel, add it to the data model, build a pivot table on the data model, and try changing its data source: the option is disabled (greyed) in

    the ribbon.
    Anybody has a tip on how to resolve that?

    If I have a table of data.
    Create a pivot table from that data
    Then create a chart from the pivot table.

    It seems sometimes you can select one bar (if it is a bar chart), and click delete. and the data will be taken out of the graph.
    But sometimes you cannot delete.

    Anyone know what stops a delete?

    I have a main form. In that main form I allow users to select items for multiple listboxes and when they click on the button for results it saves that information in a function.
    I then was attempting to pass that on to a report with a pivot graph and they work great separately. Meaning if I create a

    docmd for each within a sub they both open and have the data displayed as it should be. My problem is I want to embed the pivot chart in the report or if I have to a form. I have tried this all sorts of ways. The report method works great placing the chart
    in the footer, but the pivot chart will not update any results. I tried the header, but same thing. So, then I attempted doing it with another form. Placeing the pivot chart(subform) in the header of the form and then making it continuous and the data displays
    fine as it was in the report but the chart does not update. No matter what I attempt I cannot get the pivot to update. The need for a pivot is because the users want to still manipulate further which is crazy IMO. I tried doing it just as a graph in the report
    but it will not let me in 2010 put more than 1 value. I tried manipulating it in the crosstab query but no dice. Please help.

    Does the pivot table row label (left side of the pivot table) have to be the x axis on the chart?
    Does the pivot table Legend field have to be the chart legend data?

    You could try the following:

    1. Create the first Pivot Table
    2. Select the source data range (including header row) and press Alt+D+P Next Next. Click on
    No. Create the Pivot Table which you would like to use for charting

    The two Pivot Tables created above are independent. Whatever changes you make to the layout of Pivot Table 2 (for achieving your desired chart) will not affect Pivot Table 1.

    Hi, I have various pivot charts in 1 worksheet that all link back to their own pivot table, in the same worksheet. The source for all the pivot tables is the same. Unfortunately when I refresh the data, or apply a filter, the charts lose their
    link to the original pivot table they were linked to and instead link to other pivot tables. The Excel doc is 70MB so i imaging memory is influencing this behaviour.

    I have a pivot table that displays the data in a date format when i use the field as a filter and then try to select an item. The data columnin the source table is formated as currancy. i.e. $12.12 is showing up as 12-Jan-00 in the Pivot Table.
    I have reformated the column but the pivot table still shows up in Date format.

    The format of the PivotField Items is fixed at the time
    you create the PivotCache and PivotTable.
    You can consequentially change the formats of the
    source or the PT fields, but the format of the items
    stays the same.
    So you could see concurrently a time format in the source,
    a date format in the field and a currency format
    in the drop-down items.
    A fix is to delete the PT and start over.

    Now, this filtered pivot chart will be the resultant view for the user.
     
    Can any one tell me how to do this?
     
    Other approaches to this problem are also accepted.
     
    Any suggestion (even if not correct) to this problem will work if you can't give a complete soln. 
     
    This is critical requirment of my project...Waiting for your help.

    Hi guys,
     
    Firstly thanks for taking the time to read this and any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated... I am a .NET developer and new to MOSS and WSS.
     
    I have created an xlsx which contains a pivot table (external data connection(SQL 2005)), I have configured excel services and trusted locations for both the file and the DCL, placed the xlsx in an excel web access web part and everything is working great - ish, I am still having caching issues, but thats for another day.
     
    So the situation is, that the xlsx contains many (currently 3) pivot tables based on the external data and there are 3 pivot charts placed on a separate (and the only published) sheet.  The pivot charts are all based on data from a single table within SQL 2005.
     
    So a user currently navigates to the dashboard and is presented with the charts... great! 
     
    BUT... what i want to achieve is that i have a tree menu (or similar) on the site (this will be connected to a separate database, and i haven’t even looked at it yet) - the menu will be, say, a hierarchical program and project structure where the user can view a program, open that node and see projects beneath that program and so on down the line.  At any level the user can, say, right click and select an option view chart and the chart dashboard should appear. 
     
    The chart dashboard is based on the pivot tables above (which are based on the SQL table).  The SQL table contains rows with data about defects for each project (as in there will be many entries for a single project), this table has a projectID column and I would like to be able to filter by this column, say select * from defects where projectID in (param list).
     
    My first thought was to create a data table which the pivot tables and charts could be based on and then filter the data table based on parameters passed in, but I cant do that as datatables are not supported.
     
    So i tried a few things, including creating a cube for the defect data and then use a From Analysis Service connection.  So combining this with a SQL 2005 Analysis Service Filter with the EWA and specifing in the EWA that filters come from the SQL 2005 AS filter and populates the pivot table filter parameter (set when publishing the workbook), work fine... but for 2 issues:
     
    1) the user must use the filter to select the project IDs and then press the Apply Filters button
     2) the parameter that is set by the filter ONLY governs a single pivot table and hence only a single chart gets updated
     
    To overcome issue 1, i tried to user a query string filter instead, but this didnt work - any ideas??
     
    Issue 2 has me at a bit of a loss...
     
    So for the moment I am back to NOT using the cube and just using a plain SQL query to get the data from the external source, is there a way that i can use the parameter passed into the xslx and append it on the SQL query to ONLY return the data for the particular projects and then update all the pivot tables and charts and then present this to the user??
     
    Any help, comments and criticisms are most welcome and will be highly appreciated... if you have any suggestions at all, please let me know.

    I have data source from which i will be creating multiple PivotCharts. Each pivot chart will have its own slicers, but i would like to limit what is shown in the slicer depending on what chart it is.
    For Eg, The data source for thechartscontain column Name with values A,b,c, and D.
    I will be creating two pivot chart with a slicer for Name. In the first chart, the only thing the user should be able to choose from slicer Name is A or B. In the second chart, the only thing the user should be able to select from slicer Name is C or D.
    Each chart will be in its own Sheet.
    How do i achieve this?

    I have a SQL view that includes the following payroll data:
     
    Employee#
    PeriodEndDate
    HireDate
    Amount
     
    What I'm trying to do is filter the data by choosing the desired period end dates and then totalling the Amount and dividing that amount to get an average daily rate. To do this I'm pulling the data from the SQL 2000 source view into Excel 2007 and creating a pivot chart.
     
    In that pivot chart I'm able to select the desired period end dates and create a calculated field for my daily rate.
     
    My problem is that I want to exclude employee's that have a Hire Date that is within 90 days of the latest selected period end date. For example, if the Period End dates selected are 3/15/2008 and 3/30/2008, then any employees with a Hire Date greater than 12/31/2007 (3/30 less 90 days) should NOT be included in the pivot chart.
     
    Is there an easy way for me to do this, can I pass parameters to SQL via Excel?

    I use the term delimiter (old school I guess) but yes it's a filter. A filter does not go into the table, it determines which records go into the table. I'll take a look at your related article. I've been trying to use this new (to me) option called
    slicer. I can create two separate reports but link them with slicers. Maybe not the most efficient way but it works.

    in Excel2007 and was fixed on Excel2010. I'm trying to make a VSTO Excel Application Addin that reconnects the pivot chart on Sheet2 to the pivot table on Sheet2 for Excel2007 users. However, an exception occurs when calling Chart.SetSourceData.

    It sounds like you had grouped the data by day, with the last day of the month with data as the final limit- you could try un-grouping and then re-grouping your data by day, with different final limits.

    I have the same problem with some of my embedded Excel Charts. I will create a new chart in word, and edit some data in excel. when i go back and try to edit the data again, the entire Data section on the Word Ribbon is greyed out... the only clue I'm

    I also realized that for pivot charts linked to a pivot table with a numbering 9 the number XY would always be replaced by X, so PivotTable25 would be changed to PivotTable2 and so on, but I didn't have the idea to simply rename the pivot table :-)
    Anyway, I would classify this as a bug and hope that Microsoft fixes it soon...

    The segment expressions under the Gauge Settings are calculated across the dataset.

    If you don't select any specific cluster the min(_OffshoreMix) will be 0 and max(_OffshoreMix) will be 100. These will not be evaluated for every dimension value but for the current selection and applied across the table.

    workbook I have a Pivot Chart which has been moved to a separate Sheet. The X-Axis consists only of Dates.

    On my system, Excel then crashes. With a Microsoft Excel has stopped working message.

    I have a spreadsheet with pivot tables where the data source is on 1 tab, and the pivot table on another tab. The data tab gets its data from a stored procedure on my SQL server, and it takes about 10 seconds for the data to refresh.

    My issue with this spreadsheet is that if I want to refresh the data source and then the pivot table, obviously in that order. What is happening, if I click on the pivot table and select 'Refresh' (not 'Refresh All'), the data source will begin its refresh.
    I cannot just refresh the pivot table and I cannot figure out why.

    Initially, I had the data source options set to auto refresh if a specific value on the control page is changed. This works fine but that control option is totally isolated from the pivot table and, from what I can tell, the Pivot Table refresh should NOT force
    the external data to refresh in any way.

    Where can I look to see why the external data source and the Pivot Table Refresh commands are linked together? Is there a way to ensure that they are not?

    EDIT: After closing and restarting the spreadsheet, this functionality now works correctly. Strange, but it is now OK.

    I think what you want to do is to fix chart size so that, when you change the width of any column behind it (or when you insert a new column behind it), the chart won't be resized.

    In order to fix it, do the following: select the chart, this should display theChart Tools, adding theDesign,Layout, andFormattabs.
    On theFormattab, in theSizegroup, click theDialog Box Launcher.
    Finally, on the Properties tab, just select the "Don't move or resize with cells"option and that should solve your problem (well, at least I hope it does! :) )!

    When used in a Pivot Chart, the chart does not pick up the formatting from the source or the pivit chart.
    Dates are displayed in the system format.
    Since it is a pivot chart, the option to edit the series is greyed out in the source data dialog box.
    How do you format the display of the dates when they are the names of each data series?
    If you format them as text all the way back at the source, they loose the chronological sort and becomealphanumeric sorts.

    As this issue, try to refresh the pivot table, then to check the pivot chart will show the new data.
    On my computer, after I add some new data into the database, then the Excel file will not show the new data automatically, I just point the mouse
    to the table and press “Refresh All” button, then the table shows the new data. But the pivot table and pivot table will not change. Then I point the mouse to pivot table, and then press the “Refresh All” button, then both pivot table and pivot chart show

    I have some data I brought into Excel 2010 using a query to an external database. Creation of pivot charts from this data was working fine until new data was added to the database table. I see this new data on the worksheet where the query returns its
    results. But if I go to create a pivot chart from this new data, I can't see any of the fields related to the new data. The new data was definitely included when selecting source data for the pivot chart. But when I got to do my field selection in the chart

    I'm experiencing some difficulty when trying to manipulate the colors and chart styles for my stacked column pivot chart.

    I'm able to create the chart just fine and all my data is there but when I try to use the "Design" tab underneath "Pivotchart Tools" all of the coptions are greyed out. I'm unable to use all of the styles or change the chart colors. What I want to do is
    use different shades of blue to represent dates in my chart, as opposed to using the default range of colors that they give you.

    I was able to do this last week in a different spreadsheet but now for some reason all these options are greyed out. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated.

    This formula is just highlighting the Even rows in the Pivot table:

    Mod(RowNo(), 2) just means Modulo(RowNo/2). So when we are on RowNo 1 the remainder will be 1 because Modulo(1/2) = 1, where as for every even number remainder will be 0.

    So this formula =If(Mod(RowNo(), 2) = 0, RGB(159,159,159)) is just highlighting the even rows in the color grey.

    I have a pie chart that needs to be updated in the preview mode when a value is entered in the "value" component. This value is linked to a fixed cell (call it cell X) in the excel worksheet, that updates a pivot table. The source data from pie chart is linked to this pivot table so each time I change the value from cell X, the pivot table refreshes automatically and the pie graph refreshes too, but when I toggle to the preview mode and insert a value in the value component, the pie graph does not refreshes and shows the same data. Could you please help me with this issue? How can I refresh the pie chart in the preview mode when i enter a value in the value component linked to the cell X?

    As far as I know Xcelsius does not fully support the pivot table excel functionality when exported in an SWF file. One side-effect is that pivot tables are not refreshed automatically when the xcelsius model has been exported into a flash file.

    I have a pivot table with many fields. I have a lit box where I select a a campaign name to display in my pivot table. One of the fields of the pivot table has multiple values, let's say it's FiledX nad there are 5 possible values 1,2,3,4,5. When I select campaign name, my pivot table fills up, but lets say on this particular pivot table, I only want the data to display where FieldX = 5. I am having trouble doing this as an expression, FieldX = '5' and I am having issue setting it up with set analysis as well. And if I set this pivot table up to only display values where FieldX=5 and if none of the values in the pivot table relating to the chosen campaign name then the pivot table would contain no data. Can someone throw me a bone on this? Thanks much

    Columns C to N - January to December - numeric values, some blanks

    My pivot table looks like this

    I want toadd sub-totals for Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Quarter 3, Quarter 4and an Annual total.
    The Quarters should expand to show the Months.
    The Annual should expand to show the Quarters.

    Can the Pivot Table do this for me? If so, how?
    Or do I need to add extra columns in the source data andcalulate the sums there?

    It means that the months are not dates. If months are actual dates which are formatted as Month Names, this problem wouldn't come.

    Either you have to have your months in date format formatted as months

    I created a Pivot Pie Chart where in there are 12 "Value Field Buttons" for each month of the year.
    I want to display the chart corresponding to each month. However, clicking on each button is not changing the chart based on that month's data.

    Could you provide a screenshot about the location you want to insert the Data View web part and Data Source?
    I think you may put the mouse cursor in the incorrect place to add the data view web part, please tryputting the cursorbefore the tag /ZoneTemplate and see ifData View button is enabled,then youcan insert an empty
    dataview web part and then insert the data source intag DataSources by clicking ribbon buttonData Source(also click the ribbon button Parse HTML of the page if needed).

    In Excel 2010, its it true that one cannot create a calculated field in the pivot table when the source is OLAP? I have a pivot table in Excel 2010, where the data source uses the MSOLAP provider. With a field selected a pivot table, If I go to the 'Options'
    tab, and then select 'Fields, Items, Sets', 'Calculated Field' is grayed out.
    It looks like the thing to do would be to create calculated measures and make those part of the cube. Is this correct?

    Hello,I have a requirement to display a chart and tabular data together for a given region. There are multiple regions and the chart and tabular data must be displayed for each region one after the other. Hence I am electing to go the route of a pivot with a pivoted graph. However, there are multiple metrics to be displayed in the pivot data, and the chart must display only one metric. The chart needs to be a bar chart too. Is there any way to only allow selected metrics from the pivot to be displayed onto the chart? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I have a application where are two pivot table charts and some calender selection objects are there like Year, Month, Quarter, Current Week, Yesterday, Sales manager, Manager. I have a query that if i select some calender selection like Year, Month, Current Week, Yesterday, Quarter then it will reflect only single pivot table and data should change according to data but another pivot table chart will unchange when i select Year, Month, Quarter, Current Week, Yesterday. Also when i select Sales manager, Manager it will change. Please provide help for that.

    Isn't it an option to detacht the second pivot table?

    Properties General check :Detached

    Or does it need to change when you select something else?

    Using Excel2010 - I have a worksheet that only has a pivot chart in it, chart was moved to new sheet from table location. This sheet has nearly all buttons locked and doesnt show the gridlines, row or columns headers. all i have is the chart and a blue background
    around the outside of the chart. Not sure what I did to get here, how to do this to other charts, or how to undo this. Chart is still functional and i can access the field list.

    In Excel 2007, I have a basic table with 8 columns with hundreds of rows of data. I need to make a pivot table based on only a selection of rows halfway down the list. When I select Insert Pivot Table, I select the first row with my column headers then
    I select the rows with the data half way down. When I do this I get the data source not valid error. How do I ignore the above rows when selecting the data?

    I have a workbook which I use MSQuery to import data from another workbook. From that data I create a pivot chart. I have code to refresh the data from the query and code to do what I thought was refreshing the pivot table that lies underneath the pivot
    chart. Everytime I run the macro the data is refreshed but no the pivot chart. If I do it manually it works. Enclosed is my macro. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone has code that will do the trick, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

    Hi, I am using Excel services to publish excel pivot charts.In my scenario the data for the Pivot table and Pivot chart is coming from External source (SQL server).I have defined a report filter in the Excel sheet.I have specified a name for filter parameter and published to the sharepoint trusted location. In sharepoint , in thereport center I have created a page, in which I have added a Excel web access webaprt and Choice filter webparts.For choice filter webprt I have defined options my options say Category A, Category B.And I am successfully able to connect to Excel web access webpart from filter webpart and filtering is working. But here the problem is I am not able to clear the filter condition. i.e If I want to show all the data in the pivot chart without any filter I am not able to do that.Is there any option that we can give in Choice filter webpart, so that once the user chooses that option the chart will display all the data.What I want here is like (Select All )option that is available in Excel filter, I want to add in Choice filter. Or else simply clear the filter for the chart and display the whole data.
     If this is not going to work, is there any way that I can show my named filter parameter and Pivot chart in a single Excelwebaccess webpart, so that the use can filter the data by using regular Excel filter.
     Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated

    In my final pivot chart, I would like to select a point or a bar in the bar chart and to see all the data behind that bar.
    For example, if the value of the point in the chart is 10, then to filter the original table used for the pivot to be filtered to show those 10 rows (acting on all the linked filters)

    I have run across what appears to be a reproducible Bug affecting at least the two cited programs/versions causing Excel to crash (Msg that Excel has Stopped Working) when attempting to number format a Pivot Chart X-Axis where the Pivot Chart is on a separate
    Chart Sheet.
    The 2007 is 32 bit; not sure about the 2010.
    To reproduce
    Start Excel 2007 normally
    Label a column and fill a number of cells with sequential dates
    Label an adjacent column and fill the same number of rows with numeric data
    Insert/Pivot Table on a new worksheet
    Drag Date to Row Labels; Data to Values
    Under PivotTable Tools/ Options select PivotChart - Line - OK
    Under PivotChart Tools/Design / Location -- Move Chart New sheet
    On the New sheet, select the down arrow next to the Date label in the Axis Fields box of the PivotTable Field List
    Field Settings -- Select Number Format
    Note Error: Microsoft Excel has Stopped Working.
    If the same Format Number command is carried out when the Pivot Chart is an object on the original Pivot Table sheet, the crash does not occur and the axis number format can be altered

    Using Word 2003 and OBIEE 10.1.3.4, I've created a simple vertical bar chart in my RTF template. Now I'd like to change the contents of the chart (for instance, select a different dimension going across). I right-click the chart, and choose BI Publisher Chart (last option in the menu).

    The BI Publisher Chart dialog appears. All of the items in the Properties section (to the right of the chart) are exactly as I left them when I saved the chart. However, the "dummy" placeholder chart is shown, not my chart. The data and labels fields are blank. The Preview button is greyed out. The OK button is greyed out. My chart data and dimension selections are not being repopulated in the dialog.

    What am I doing wrong?

    use the shortcut Alt+D+P and you'll get the old Excel 2003 dialogbox with the option for multiple consolidation ranges.

    I have 11 pivot tables which I used them to create 11 pivot charts. I noticed that the charts stop updating from time to time. I check to see if the data source is still the original pivot table and it often is not. It's an editable range where normally
    a pivot chart does not have an editable range. To relink them, I then have to select the entire range of the pivot table. This doesn't solve the problem though. Then I have to save, close, and re-open...THEN is refreshes. This is becoming tiring. Any
    ideas?

    don't add the table to the data model I am able to group fields in the resultant pivot table. However, if I create exactly the same Pivot Table but
