When I try to install this on a Win XP SP3 box I get Error 2753 The

The computer has 4.91 SP4 on it, with NMAS installed and enabled. Also

    Am I doing something wrong?

Any idea what is meant specifically by that \'fix\'?

We use contextless login and that message does appear on SP4 if someone tried to login before the network card had got a connection to the server, but then that error is logical.

    We are running:

    Windows XP

    EDir 8.7.3.10

    ConsoleOne 1.3.6.h

    Novell Client 4.9.1 SP5

    Netware 6.5 SP8

We do not use NMAS. It is turned off in the client.

When Nmas is installed on the workstation, we get the following error when trying to create a user in Nwadmin:

An object key pair could not be generated.

    Error Code 304:-216

It creates the user but not the home directory.

If we uninstall NMAS, ConsoleOne gives us the following error (twice) when we attempt to edit the properties of a user:

This application has failed to start because nmasncp.dll was not found. Re-

installing the application may fix this problem.

Then it allows us to edit the user.

The NMAS version on the server is: 3.2.1.

The NMAS version on the workstation (from the client install) is: 3.4.3.0.

Would this mismatch be what\'s causing our problems?

    DB:3.81:Thread: Nmas Version Conflict? 1m

    Error Code 304:-216

It creates the user but not the home directory.

Error -216 means password too short.

    What happens is the following:

When you don\'t have NMAS installed on the workstation, setting the

password is done though normal NDS operations. When the adminsitrator

defines a new user, is is allowed to violate the password restrictions

by for example not assigning a password to a user but forcing the user to

change the password at first login.

When you install the NMAS client, then the NMAS client intercepts the

password change APIs of the Novell client, and any NDS password change

attempt is intercepted by NMAS and sent as an NMAS request to the NMAS

server. NMAS is much stricter than NDS in enforcing password policies. The

administrator for example can\'t assign a blank password to a user when the

password policies specifies a password must be used. It is probably such a

conflict that generates the error you see. Now NWADMN is not smart enough

to expect such an error and therefore just aborts the user creation at the

very point the error occured. So not all tasks involved in user creation

    may have been performed.

As for your consoleone error without NMAS client, it results from the fact

that on NetWare, ConsoleOne comes with an NMAS plugin that depends on the

NMAS client. So if you don\'t have an NMAS client installed, you may get

errors for all areays of ConsoleOne were the NMAS plugin is involved.

Note that the NMAS server and client version numbers are not related to

each other. The latest NMAS server version is 3.3.1 (which is included

with eDirectory 8.8.3/4) while the client version numbers are already well

    ahead of that.

The problem has been fixed. I checked the registry entry for NWGINA.DLL

but it was already set to NWGINA.DLL. I went into control panel and

opened the Users and Passwords and checked the box that says Users must

enter a user name and password to use this computer. I restarted and the

problem was solved. Thank you so much for the help!

Also bear in mind that there is a choice to be made during Windows

2000 setup regarding whether users will be required to login. If you

opt out of that, there is an implicit AutoAdminLogin established on

    your behalf.

In addition to what Hamish suggests verifying, go into the Users

Passwords control panel applet and ensure Users must enter a username

and password... is selected. (This disables the AutoAdminLogon.)

Is this the only server in your tree or are there other servers in your

tree, possibly with older netware versions? Do you have a pssword policy

    defined for universal password?

I suspect that your problems are due to the client doing an NMAS login but

your NMAS configuration being somwhat upset in your tree. If you don\'t use

universal password, you might not even need NMAS and you could remove the

NMAS client from your workstations. That would probably solve the problem

for you (but the NMAS problem on the server would remain and would

resurface if you ever enable NMAS on the client again).

    hello,

Unfortunately the documentation doesn\'t give that much info about it:

    1. some guys sure are, as it\'s on by default

    2. could be, could not be. There\'s no point in making guesses like this though, you need to engage in methodical diagnosis

    Hi,

I old days we used Backward-compatibility. But users with same ipadress at

the private part of their net were throwing each other off the vpn.

So we changed to NMAS. Some are still thrown off. Well i have found out: If

they log in with Novell client after VPN-login the connection never breaks.

If not logging on with Novell client, the connection last around 12-15

    minutes.

In VPN-client-to-site-configuration Packet Security is setup as this:

    Encryption: RC5

    Authentication: HMAC-MD 5

Not sure if this has anything to with it...

Is there an explanation and is there a way to let people login be VPN

    without logging in to Novell

Why not log on to Novell?: We do not have single signon and the users wants

to contact Notes and our economic-system both require logon.

I have just tried installing the Novell Client 4.91 Post-SP5 Login Files 8 on a pc with the Endpoint Security Client installed, I am thinking that this would then allow a single-signon function for the ESM client?

If I remove the three files that are copied:

nwgina.dlllgncxw32.dllloginw32.dlland revert to the previous versions the icon returns, so I have no way of knowing if the single sign-on has worked.

    Hi All,

Logging in DOES work from a school PC to the school server w/o any changes to the clients\' NMAS setting.

I browsed the Novell TIDs and saw that this is an NMAS error. It suggested turning off NMAS on the client. I did this and the PC can now login to the school server from the employee network with no error message.

Just to clarify, that is sp2 for 4.91, not Windows XP SP2. Also, I realize

that IPX is not required on the workstation to use print queues, but we also

have some legacy apps that require it. However, not everybody uses those

DB:3.25:Thread: Client 4.91 Sp5 Conflicts With Ms Win Client pm

This post relates to PCs running XP Professional SP2 or SP3 connecting to Netware 6.5 servers over IP with latest patches in place.

We have always updated the Novell 4.91 Client SP1 thru SP4 by running the setupsp.exe file on individual work stations from the patch download site without any problem.

Running setupsp.exe from the latest 4.91 SP5 download however, we have found the following:

    1. For PCs running just the Novell client - no problem. (These PCs typically had the original Microsoft Client removed as the first step after purchase, and then the Novell client installed using setupnw.exe current at the time).

    2. For PCs running both the MS Client for windows networks and the Novell Client for Netware (typically 4.91 SP4), after applying SP5 the PCs would log into Netware but would not run login scripts batch files or run executable programs on the server located via network places, network search etc. Response broadly indicated that things could no longer be found on the server.

    3. If the MS client is removed or disabled in Network Connections, the problem disappears. Put it back, problem returns. Run the full setupnw.exe (instead of the setupsp.exe) still the same problem.

The only way we have been able to fix the problem is:

    First remove the Novell Client

Install the MS Client for Netware (alongside the MS Client for Windows)

Install the Novell Client for Netware (which removes the MS Client for Netware)

All works OK now for that PC, BUT, if we now put the MS Client for Windows onto a PC which is only running 4.91 SP5, that PC also gives the same problem which has to be resolved as described.

Any clues as to what is happening and why?

Since presence of the Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks seems

somewhat implicated, an additional test that comes to mind is to turn

off the UNC Path Filter option under the Advanced Settings tab in

    the Novell Client Properties.

Hi Alan! Do you know, I think you\'ve got it!!

    ...

As a post script, I tried changing the UNC Paths Filter back and forth

between on and off. Changing it to OFF always left the PC working

properly. Changing it to ON gave all sorts of errors including \'Internal

error 0x00008993\', very slow logins, and difficulty finding servers

during login. It is now OFF!!

On the cleanest one of these images/workstations you\'ve been able to

demonstrate this on, can you list what items appear in the Add/Remove

Programs control panel, along with the specific versions reported by

each one? (e.g. Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.2010.25, Daemon

    Tools 4.30.1, etc.)

I only have a couple machines on which the Novell Client is not at the

top of the network provider order. (Which is the main side effect

of adding the Microsoft Client for Microsoft Windows after the fact

that comes to mind; maybe there are others I\'m overlooking.)

And since I haven\'t seen the issue on those machines either, just

thinking that the issue may be related to some other software/driver

that happens to be present on these machines and is a required factor

for demonstration, not withstanding that upgrading to 4.91 SP5 is also

a required factor in seeing the problem.

Just in case its not implied by the installed software list, go to

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Contro l\\NetworkProvider\\Order]

and cut-n-paste the contents of the ProviderOrder REG_MULTI_SZ that

is defined there. Just in case it\'s not so much the position of the

Microsoft network provider specifically, but perhaps other providers

    that are present.

    Hi

Will do at first opportunity but have you also seen the post I made today at 09.30 in response to the post by ukdtom? This may help you reproduce the problem on one of your own machines.

    Hello,

I have a big problem with the Novell Client 4.91 SP4 and DFS access.

We have two Windows 2008 Servers and enable DFS.

When I try to access the DFS share with an XP/Win2003 client with installed Novell Client 4.91 SP4 with all Patches or Novell Client 4.91 SP5 with all patches, the access takes a long time. Up to 6 minuits.

When I try to access the DFS Share with the same Client without any Novell Client it works without any problemes. I can access the DFS share in 1 or 2 secounds.

I try some stuff from these TIDs:

TID-10090785 Slow preformance opening explorer or UNC locations or accessing MS servers. ( 29JAN2004)

TID-10093266 How does the Novell Client Bad Name Cache work? ( 20APR2006)

TID-10065560 Poor performance accessing Microsoft Office documents on a Novell server. ( 04NOV2003)

    But nothing works.

I read that these problem will be fixed in a Novell Client 4.91 SP 2. But it seams that the fix is not working or is removed in the other clients.

Perhaps someone has an idear what i can do.

But i\'m using another method that is working better here:

    1. Create a file NWLANGID.INI in the root of the novell client installation files

    2. edit the file and paste:

    I just updated my 98se workstation to the Client32 3.4 version. I

    then

reinstalled NMAS (client files, Enhanced Password Workstation Access

methods). I have NICI 1.5.7 2.4.1 installed on the workstation.

When I get to the first Novell login screen (username) and hit enter I

get the following message (the password box never appears):

    -' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-

    Netware Security Message

Internal Error 0x0074EB6C occurred. Try again.

If this error occurs again, restart your workstation and try again.

If the error persists, contact your network administrator

    -' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-' + '-

If I uninstall the NMAS componenets (leaving the NICI installed) I do

    not

get this error and can successfully log in to my server. When I

    reinstall NMAS the error returns.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks!!!!

Greetings, running Win XP SP3 workstation with Novell Client 4.91 SP4, I\'m

toying around with iPrint and in iManager when I\'m trying to create printer

profiles it crashes the spooler subsystem whenever it tried to access the

printer config from my workstation, so I\'m thinking that it\'s probably a bug

with the older Novell Client I\'m using and I should upgrade...

If I go to the download site and search for the Novell Client, the latest

version for WinXP is 4.91 SP5 dated back in 2008, then if you go to the

    patch section, there\'s a slew of patches through 2008 (4) / 2009 (14) / 2010

    (6) - do I have to download the client from 2008, and each of the patches,

in order to get the latest client fully updated, or is there a faster way?

It\'s been a while since I\'ve had to update the client obviously...

    Tips appreciated, thanks

Once I restarted the workstation, everything is fine when using

    iManager with iPrint NetWare Management.

That\'s a nice feature of the newer iprint clients. It doesn\'t kill

the old one off from memory first, and you\'ll find you have 2 copies of

iprntctl.exe and/or iprntlgn.exe running. That never happened before

the last version to my knowledge. I believe you can just end task on

those and you\'ll be fine. If you\'re delivering it via zen, you may also

be able to terminate those 2 processes before hand and be ok as well but

    I haven\'t tested that.

As long as nmas on the server side is version 2.3.5 or greater it should

The piece that really breaks ZEN is universal password, but the correct

Recently upgraded Novell client from 4.91 SP3 to 4.91 SP5 as Windows XP from SP2 to SP3 on enterprise image.

Since the upgrade Auto Admin Logon fails at the login screen with error LDAP Contextless Login:No LDAP Server Specified. Once OK is selected on the error window the auto logon process is invoked and completes.

I remove Auto Admin Logon settings to manually login, no matter how quickly I attempt to confirm contextless login by entering a username in lower case and then tab to the password field to determine if it capitalizes the username, I can not recreate the LDAP error.

Used the exact same unattend file from 4.91 SP3 with the 4.91 SP5 client install. Confirmed LDAP servers are correctly configured in the client. Once logged on ping to LDAP servers does get a response.

This problem seems to be related to the timing of Auto Admin Logon invoking authentication prior to proper network connection. The reason I suspect this is because no Auto Admin Logon no problem. The only thing is if I roll the Novell client back to 4.91 SP3 it resolves the problem.

I am not sure how to create a bat or login script that says if version 4.91 then install NMAS. IF not then install acu.exe the whole upgraded client. Is there a way to have it check the registry file for the version? or some type of version file. I have tried the ACU.exe. When this runs if the client is already at the new version is does nothing. How do I make it add the NMAS component and not the whole install again.

    DB:3.11:Thread: Novell Client 4.91 Sp4 9m

Running the client install from the login script requires the user to have

administrator rights to his workstation. Otherwise, the install or upgrade

    will fail.

Install/upgrading the client for users with limited rights requires some

software that allows the installation to be run as system. This can for

example be achieved with products like ZENworks Desktop Management, but

also with the Update Agent of the client itself.

To use the Update agent, you do of course need a workstation which already

has a client with update agent installed. The update agent is included

since the 4.90 client. I think it is possible to activate or reconfigure

the update agent using just user rights provided it is already present on

    the workstation.

But the login screen is unable to access the TREE with 4.91.sp5. ( putting the ip address works fine)

If I use the 4.91 SP1 on the same network, it works fine . (srvloc.sys 4.91.0.1)

It seems latest Novell Client services packs has compromised the NDS tree resolution via SLP ?

Does anyone has successfully migrate to OpenSLP DA ???

DB:3.05:Thread: [Xp] [Client 4.91 Sp5] Novell Login Screen Passive Mode Rdp km

    Hello,

Currently we are testing the passive mode login function of the Novell Client, on the physical pc\'s we have no problems and everything works fine. On the pc\'s which are used with RDP we have a strange problem. I will try to explain it. We activate the passive mode login registry settings. When we connect via RDP we get the MS Login Screen, we provide the AD domain credentials and push the login button. We see the Novell login script screen splashing and it says connected to our novell server. After that the overall screen splashes and we get another Novell Login screen. After providing the same credentials as the first time the logon process continuous.

So the problem is the novell login screen. I have tried te following registry settings and none of them is giving a positive result:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Novell\\Login]

    TSClientAutoAdminLogon=1

    DefaultLocationProfile=Default

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Novell\\NWGINA\\Login Screen]

    RemoteDesktopInUseDialog=dword:00000000

I hope that someone can point me to a direction which solves te problem....

    Thnx in advance,

    Regards,

Hope this helps peole in the same situation.

    mrosen,

Thanks. We will try this, but we prefer to use the smaller post-sp5 ir2 installer directly. We do not understand why the post-sp5 installer will not install silently, especially since all the post-sp1 installers can update silently. Will endpoints with sp5 already installed be updated differently if we use the full ir2 installer, as opposed to using the smaller post-sp5 ir2 installer? Will any customizations be lost? Is it really the same net result?

Of all those great Novell techy\'s out there, you would think someone

    4.83 works just fine........

Anything higher will prevent Windows group policies from working.....

Several of us have already said that this is not the case, it\'s just how

it happens to be playing out for you. My Windows group policies are

merrily pushed out all the time, even when I don\'t want them to be. :)

Many of the sysops here are available as consultants - if this is a high

    Jeff,

My guess is that I went from sp2 ( with various file patches ) to this

sp3a patch without going to sp3 first?

that would do it - this is an update for the SP3 patch, not a full SP3 +

    patches. You need SP3 first.

The problem now is I do not see sp3 on the Novell download page?

Its on the main download.novell.com page - 4th item down, or from

    Hi All

We are rolling out a password policy which works on the machines with the

NMAS client installed and turned on but we have a large amount of PC\'s

that do not have the client installed.

My question is, can i roll out the NMAS exe separatley from the client

and will it be ok in a mixed client environment ie: 4.90 - 4.91 with

    various SP levels.

The NMAS client i want to use is from Novell Client 4.9sp2. My idea is to

create a Zenworks NAL that does a silent install of this when users logon.

Any ideas?, should this be ok even with PC\'s that presently have the NMAS

    client installed and enabled.

    Many thanks

We had a stable network running Windows XP 4.91 SP5 and a single NW 6.0

server. We are attempting to migrate to a new 6.5 Server so we added it

to the existing tree. So now we have 2 servers running in our tree of

    dissimilar operating systems.

However, now we get sporadic login failure messages regarding NMAS.

Sometimes it works fine but when it doesn;t we have to login workstation

only and then login again with the Novell Client. I tried disabling or

unistalling NMAS from the client side but that has not solved the

problem all the way-logging in works about half the time. sometimes,

the client hangs at the login screen and then logs in only after moving

    the mouse/keyboard.

while I am thinking there is probably something misconfigured on the new

6.5 box regarding NMAS, the odd thing is that I don;t think we are even

using NMAS to log into our server.

anyone have an idea of what I could do?

DB:2.95:Thread: Terminal Serivices, Netware Client 4.91.4, And Login Issue s8

    Hello there,

Back in April we were having problems logging in to Novell through a

Terminal services session on our Windows 2000 Terminal Server. At the

time it was recommended we update both the Novell Client(Now 4.91.4)

and the terminal services client. For a while that seemed to resolve

the login issue. However, now it has returned.

I ran packet traces using WireShark and found that NMAS is returning a

-1642 Login Failed message when the client contacts our GroupWise

server (Our sole SLES 9 OES1 We have applied all patches from the

channel and all service packs) to process the login. This gives a

login failed message to the user who then can click OK, Type in their

    password, and then authenticate.

If the client connects to our main File server (SLES 10 SP2 OES2 SP1)

then the login is handled correctly and the Terminal session succeeds.

I did a DS trace on the GroupWise server and on the first instance of

    a connection I get 4 errors:

    ERROR: -1697 MAF_GetPassword LSM 0x00000007

    MAF_End LSM 0x00000007 failed

    ERROR: -1642 Login Method

    ERROR: -1642 NMAS Manager

After the user types in their password and tries to login, I receive

    the following

    ERROR: -1697 MAF_GetPassword LSM 0x00000007

    MAF_End LSM 0x00000007 successful

    WhatNext

    Successful login

What should I be taking away from this information?

What is truly annoying is that a user can connect 20 or 30 times in a

row to our main file server and then one odd time it goes to the

GroupWise server and we are frooped. The terminal services machine

never tries to authenticate to any of the Netware 6.5 SP7-8 servers we

have on the network It all ways goes straight to the GroupWise

    server.

    Hi,

I have problems getting Smartcard Login to work with the login with non-novell credential provider option enabled.

    Setup is as follows:

    - Terminal Services running on Windows 2008 R2

    - User account in eDirectory and Active Directory with same user name password

    - On the server: Novell Client 2 SP1 IR3, Cryptovision Smartcard middleware (CSP), Enhanced Smart Card Method 3.0.7 (NMAS Authentication = ON in Novell Client)

    - Client: tested with both Windows XP and Windows 7 clients with same results

    Configuration 1:

    - Novell Client setting login with non-novell credential provider = ON

    - Novell Client setting Novell Logon = OFF

    - Logging in with username password

    - Result: works as expected: authenticated in AD eDirectory and Novell scripts are executed

    Configuration 2:

    - Novell Client setting login with non-novell credential provider = doesn\'t matter

    - Novell Client setting Novell Logon = ON

    - Logging in with username password

    - Result: works as expected: authenticated in AD eDirectory and Novell scripts are executed

    Configuration 3:

    - Novell Client setting login with non-novell credential provider = doesn\'t matter

    - Novell Client setting Novell Logon = ON

    - Logging in with Smartcard

    - Result: authenticated in eDirectory, Novell scripts executed BUT asks for password for Active Directory login (Novell client passes the typed-in Smart Card PIN to the Active Directory Domain Controllers as password...)

    Configuration 4:

    - Novell Client setting login with non-novell credential provider = ON

    - Novell Client setting Novell Logon = OFF

    - Logging in with Smartcard

    - Result: authenticated in Active Directory. Not authenticated in eDirectory and Novell scripts don\'t run. Doesn\'t even ask for eDirectory credentials (password or PIN)

In all cases, the TSClientAutoAdminLogon policy doesn\'t change a thing on the behaviour/result.

In configuration 4, with NMAS tracing enabled, nothing is logged in the trace file at all. So it looks like the Enhanced Smart Card Method is not even called. Still in configuration 4, I can right-click the red N in the taskbar and log in to eDirectory using the Smart Card...

Configuration 4 is what we need. As far as I remember, passive mode (in the XP/2003 Novell Client) respectively login with non-novell credential provider has been implemented by Novell for this very purpose. Or not?

I would REALLY appreciate any help on this. It\'s been weeks of trying, googling etc to get this running :-(

    Thanks a lot!

That seems to be a feature of our smartcard middleware.

On our XP SP3 Pro PC\'s we have installed Novell Client 4.91 SP5.

The default configuration of the client was left untouched, which resulted in end users logging into the local machine (Windows tab local machine was selected not Windows domain).

I have updated the configuration so the context and the domain default for the end users dept/site/location. As expected a new profile has been created after the end user logged in.

What is happening now is each time the end users login; one time he/she will be logging into the old local profile, the next will be the new domain profile. This happens more than once for several end users. In most cases if the switching stops, the end user is logged into their old profile. I need for the end users to be logged into their new profiles.

I have even edited the registry key HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\NOVELL\\LOCATIONPROFILES\\SERVICES\\*** *A23\\Default\\TAB3 and set the defaultdomainname key to the proper domain for the end user, still unable to get the end users to log into the new profiles.

Any suggestions to stop the profile switching along with making sure all end users are using the new (proper) profile?

Does that mean that AutoAdminQueryNDS has been enabled in addition to

When I check []-Use workstation on the Novell Client and enter a

Windows is setup with a password and username to autologon.

I believe I\'ve heard of that before, specifically in conjunction with

There is still no real solution that I\'m aware of. You can keep users

out of the situation by removing the Workstation Only checkbox, but

since you\'re intentionally trying to use it, it would seem the only

workaround is to avoid the AutoAdminLogon via SHIFT as described.

After reading the other thread and your reply, I think the only workaround is to avoid AutoAdminLogon by using the SHIFT key method. Problem solved.

Seems like it was the security keys that were not so fit.

I had no Security Domain Server / Key Server. Updated my W0 object to point

at the server with the NICISDI.KEY (had only 1 server with that one).

Generated a new one and synched it to the other servers.

After that I were able to get in to the server via CIFS.

    Thanks

    Martin

    A little update:

Created/Exported a new RootCert in the public folder.

Still got the 1460 and 1642 errors when connecting to CIFS.

I do have the CIFS working on another server so I guess the client is ok.

Yes, I have enabled the simple password.

Ran PKIDIAG and it fixed one minor thing, a DNS mismatch. That did not help

though. I recreated the Keyfiles for that server just to see.

    Didn\'t help.

I have noo Rootcert.der in my sys:\\public but in sys:\\system

And looking at that its valid until 2010 BUT it says its not Trusted.

This CA Root certificate is not trusted because it is not in the Trusted

    Root Certification Authorities store.

Also, updated NMAS, NICI + Sec Update 8 on this server. Didn\'t help

    though.

    /Martin

Also make sure you have the current rootcert.der in SYS:\\PUBLIC. Not

    sure if

    PKIDAIG fixes that.

I\'m also asuming that you have implemented Universal password or at

    least

    the simple password.

Well no, that\'s the entire point of cifs. In fact it\'s preferable the

    PCs

using CIFS don\'t have client32 installed, as it confuses poor little

    Windows.

The 601 is merely saying that the user you are logged into the PC as,

Administrator, does not exist in NDS. The next user you try, Hedarpm,

    does

    so that is fine.

    The first meaningfull error is:

    48: MAF_GetAttribute LSM 0x0000000D AID: 24 Tag: PASSWORD HASH

    ERROR: -1460 CCS_GetPartitionKey:LTSSPerformX

First run PKIDIAG on the server you are trying to connect to. Also,

    what

exact DS version do you have? 8.7.3.7 would be preferable.

    I am running NetWare 6.6SB SP5, NW65OS5a, N65NSS5a, eDir 8.7.3.8 SMP,

    NMAS 3.1.0, NICI 2.7.0 and SSP 2.0.1. On the client side - 4.91 SP2.

From time to time, usually after the server reboot, all my clients loose

ability to login via Novell Login with the Error -1644 after a 3 minutes

timeout. Background login works fine, i.e. if the user logs into the

station only and then clicks through to the NetWare volume they get

authenticated. Even after they are authenticated and attempt to Log in

the Login Script window is produced and then fails to close with the

Close button disabled and the window not responding for another 3

    minutes after which it disappears.

Did You Forget Your Password? control on the Login Screen produces the

same error after the 3 minutes delay.

Connectivity with the server is working fine otherwise. There is no

problem with pinging the server. Files are accessed at the normal speed.

Everything points to some NMAS issue on the server.

Rebooting the server clears the problem immediately.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

This should auto-populate if the user has authenticated with Novell client to eDirectory. On my iPrint client Passwords tab it shows the tree I have authenticated against. See below:

    Using Novell Client Credentials

If the Novell Client is installed and was used to authenticate to eDirectory, the iPrint Client retrieves the username and password from the Novell Client and uses the credentials to authenticate to secure printers. Depending on your configuration, NetIdentity might no longer be needed to share credentials.

    Hello,

I have Consoleone 1.3.6f and client 4.91.3. When I create an object in

eDir, I have this error :

The procedure entry point NMAS_ClientGetErrMsg could not be located in

How can I resolve it ? it seems that the object is however created.....

    Thanks

    DB:2.88:Thread: Client 4.91.3 Nmas d1

I had the following error suddenly when trying to access a user object in ConsoleOne:

The procedure entry point NMAS_ClientGetErrMsg could not be located in the dynamic link library nmas.dll

The following advice worked for me:

Just delete the nmas.dll from the bin directory. C1 will then use the nmas.dll from the \\windows\\system32 directory

    DB:2.88:Thread: Nmas Client Error -1663 79

I\'m having some problems getting the novell client to work with the forgotten password link and NMAS.

versions that I\'m working with are:

    Novell Client 4.91sp3

    NMAS client 3.3.0.5

Challenge response module that came with the above client

    Netware 6.5sp5

    Winxp sp2

The environment is Netware 6.5 that was upgraded from Netware 6.0.

When I click on the forgotten password link on the client I get:

NMAS: client login module not found. Unable to Login using Challeng Response. See your administrator.

When I try to log in I get NMAS client module not found Error -1663 (hex code)

I can view the authorised sequences from the client and these match and change as I make modifications in iManager.

I use the forgotten password with the IDM3 UserAPP and all this is working perfectly.

The NMAS error points to the client not having the correct module installed. When I view the NMAS properties of my test user in iManager I have authorised both Challenge Response and NDS selected and NDS is set to be Default.

As the NDS client module is installed with NMAS and Challenge response is installed what else can be the problem?

I have tried client 4.91sp2 and upgraded to sp3 in case it was some weirdness with the client.

    Thanks for the help,

    Ben.

thanks Adam, I finally tracked down the problem. I inherited the system

and according to others, they have never been able to run a nmas client

successfully. I tracked it down to the login methods have incorrect

defined post login sequences. Once I removed these it all appears to be

    working fine.

I tracked it down basically along the lines you suggest. The -1663 error

is workstation client based according to the doco, and as I was sure all

was working as designed at the client, I started backtracking from

there. I didn\'t know about the ncc.exe -mi test.. I\'ll have a closer

    look at that tomorrow.

Having a post-login sequence defined is a good explanation. Indeed

nothing would have been wrong regarding the Challenge/Response method

registration itself; NMAS was probably returning the -1663 because it

couldn\'t find whatever the additional post-login method was on the

    local workstation.

We have a few workstations where users cannot login (using eDir credentials) after locking the workstation, they get NMAS error -1639. We\'re using XP and client v4.91 SP5 with all post SP5 patches.

Users are able to login to Windows locally with all network drive still available.

I\'ve searched the support site, all I can find for a solution is Contact a NovellĀ® support provider.

    Any suggestions?

    DB:2.87:Thread: Error -1639 Fffff999 Nmas E Invalid Operation mf

    Ok,

I\'m going to test this on a test VM I have setup. Might take me a couple of days to get back to you but I do have an idea. A few years ago, I had a site that ran into a similar issue where we had implemented several NMAS methods. But not all issues have the same resolution.

    You can email me at d a l l a s at d t s t e k dot com with more details on your server config.

When the users workstations are locked, is it because they locked the workstations by CTRL-ALT-DEL, XP Screen Saver Settings, or did the workstation go into a power saving mode such as sleep or hibernate?

It sounds like some sort of binding issue with Windows networking.

Take a look at the ProviderOrder value in the following key(s) that

DB:2.86:Thread: Winxp Local Login Issue When Client 4.91sp5 Installed 3a

    Hi,

I have an interesting problem. A client is running NW6SBS and Win98 workstations, supporting an old DOS Clipper app. They recently bought 3 identical new Dell PCs (Vostro 220 minitower, Win XP sp3) and I set them up on the network. 2 installed flawlessly, the third is flaky. Here are the specifics:

    1. Windows local user logins work without Novell Client 4.91SP5 installed.

    2. Win local logins workstation only with Novell client do not work, except administrator.

    3. Novell user (lisa) login works on Win98 PC and other XP w/s.

    4. Novell lisa login does not work with local administrator.

    5. Novell admin login works with local administrator user.

    6. Novell admin win lisa works, but do not have to enter lisa\'s windows password.

    7. Novell admin win admin (administrator enabled user) does not work, even with same password. Novell local windows login prompt returns wrong password error, as in cases above.

    8. Novell lisa win lisa does not work - can\'t login to Novell

    9. Win local administrator works workstation only login.

    10. Other users do not work on this PC.

    Things tried to date:

    1. Remove, reinstall Client 4.91sp5

    2. Remove NICI, NMAS - PC is making IPX connection

    3. Installed Post sp5 field test patch

    4. Removed Client 4.91sp5, installed Client 4,91sp4

    5. Turned off Norton security/enabled Windows firewall

    6. Novell lisa user has no login restrictions

    Thoughts:

The client does not appear to be forwarding passwords to the Windows side correctly, but why just this PC?

Only admin can login from this PC - but context is correct (admin is at O, users is an OU.

    Thanx for the help

We\'ve installed the Novell Client 4.91 SP5 including the two recently

released patches and it\'s working fine. These days we had to add the MS

Windows Client and now the UNC calls aren\'t working anymore. For example:

\\\\NW_Server\\SYS\\PUBLIC isn\'t working anymore on 4.91 SP5, while it works

fine on SP4 with the MS Client.

When Novell will release a patch to resolve this issue?

Is there any possibility to downgrade to the 4.91 SP4 without uninstalling

    the SP5 client?

    Thank you for your help.

We have run into an issue with this latest Novell Client.

When we update the unattend.txt file to increment the version number, this this not being applied to the workstation during install. In fact, the registry entry that holds the version number of the Novell Client shows the version as 0 0 after the install of this SP5 IR1 Client.
