DB:3.22:Shared Media Problems -- Computers Not Seeing Each Others Libraries 31

I have 3 computers: Computer 1 running Windows 7 and WMP 12, Computer 2 running Windows Vista Ultimate and WMP 11, and Computer 3 also running Windows Vista Ultimate and WMP 11. I have installed all Windows updates.
The problem is that Computer 2 and Computer 3 cannot see each other's libraries, but both can see Computer 1's library. Computer 1 can see the libraries from both Computer 2 and Computer 3.
All three computers are in the same workgroup. They are logged in with the same (password-less) user name. Media sharing is allowed between all of the computers (and, in fact, the Media Sharing dialog shows Computer 2 when on Computer 3 and vice-versa).
On the Vista machines, I have Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public Folder sharing, and Media sharing on.
What am I missing? Any clues?
    Thanks in advance.

DB:3.22:Shared Media Problems -- Computers Not Seeing Each Others Libraries 31

    Having similar issue:
    I have 3 machines networked.
    xbox
    (pc1): win 7/wmp 12 pc
    (pc 2):win 7/wmp 12 pc
Here's the scenario: I am sharing the Public Libraries from (pc 1) and (pc 2)with each other on a homegroup, and also to the xbox.
On the xbox, I can see the other machines "Public Libraries" (pc1 and pc2) in the shared libraries. I am seeing them in Media Center in "shared". (Good so far)
On (pc 1), I can see (pc 2) in "Other Libraries" in WMP 12. (Good again)
On (pc 2), I can't see (pc 1) in "Other Libraries" in WMP 12. (You guessed it...NOT GOOD)
On (pc 2), I can see (pc 1) and play music from it in WMP 12 - using Windows Explorer to find the file folder - file and start it. Also, in Windows Explorer on (pc 2), I can see the "Public Libraries" in the "Homegroup" tab of (pc 1).

For some reason, (pc 1) is not showing up in (pc 2)'s "Other Libraries". I have proven that (pc 1) is pushing the "Public Libraries" to the xbox. I can see and use everything from (pc 1) on (pc 2), however, (pc 1) does not show in the "Other Libraries" in
WMP 12 on (pc 2). If I go to "Customize navigation pane..." "Other Libraries" - I don't see (pc 1)'s Library. I have also done "Restore media Library" and manually deleted the Wmp 12 database on (pc 2) so it would rebuild from scratch, after I had the problem.
Also, in "Choose media streaming options for computers and devices", both (pc 1) and (pc 2) see each other (in Local Network) and are allowed to stream everything. In "Change sharing options for different network profiles" I have allowed everything in "Public"
    and "Home/Work" network profiles.
    WHAT GIVES?
If I knew what Wmp 12 was looking for to see the "Other Libraries", I could go see what's up.
    PLEASE HELP.....racking brain!!!

DB:2.98:I Need Help With Configuring Homegroup pp

I have Homegroup set up for two computers (my desktop and laptop). I can share folders between them. I will be adding another laptop to the homegroup but can't figure out how to set permissions such that only the first two computers can see certain
files without the third also seeing everything. Please advise. Also, when I go into Network I see something called "Media Devices" for both computers that is allowing access to all music and videos. I didn't enable this and don't have them shared, so why
can I still see everything on the other computer. I don't want that kind of access.

DB:2.98:I Need Help With Configuring Homegroup pp

    Hello mikeynavy1,
    Question 1:
You have an option to set the permission levels to configure what files and folders can be shared with different users on the ‘Homegroup’. You can create a co owner for the files to access and share the files.

You can refer the below article that will give you information on ‘How to set permission levels’.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Share-files-with-someone
Note: Don’t use the public folder to share files and folders if you would not like all the users to access the files.

Also refer the below article that will show you different ways to share files and folders:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/File-sharing-essentials
    Question 2:
Media sharing is a part of ‘Homegroup’ so when you setup sharing, Media sharing gets enabled by default and allows you to share the Media between the computers on the Network. You can however disable Media Sharing.

You can follow two methods to disable this.
You can either disable Media Sharing or choose what to share.
    Disable Media Sharing:
a.Open Media Player, click the arrow below the Stream tab, and then click Media Sharing.
b.In the Media Sharing dialog box, uncheck the box next to Share my media.
This will remove Media Sharing on your computer.
Check out this article for more information:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Share-your-media-in-Windows-Media-Player-with-other-people-or-devices
    Change settings:
You can refer the below article that will give you option to customize the setting for Media Sharing:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Change-settings-for-sharing-media-in-Windows-Media-Player

    Hello

    I have 2 computers.

The #1 computeris aDell XPS 400 Desktop running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 with Service Pack 3 wired directly to a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router with a Internet Connection.

The #2 Computer ina Dell Studio 1737 Laptop Running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1, connectiing wirelessly to both the Internet and the desktop through the Wireless Router.

I have no problems getting out to the internet or seeing files and folders that I have shared from desktop so that I can pull them up and edit them from the laptop.

The problemI am having right now is that when I try to open, edit then save a file back to the desktop I get a error message. Below are the steps I have tried using a
TEST SAVE.txt file that I created on the Desktop for the purposes of trying to figure the problem out.

    1. Open the shortcut from my Laptop to the folder that contains TEST SAVE.txt. on my desktop

    2.Double ClickTEST SAVE.txt

    3. Make a simple change in the document.

    4. ChooseSave from the File drop down menu.

Using this method I get this error message.

    "Cannot create the \\computer name\directory name\TEST SAVE.txt file
Make sure that the path and filename are correct"

I also tried it by repeating steps 1-3 from above but choosing SAVE AS from the
File drop down menu. When I do this it tells me that the File already exists and do I wish to replace it. When I choose yes I get another error message saying the same as above.
I checked to make sure that the files and folders on the Desktop computer were set correctly under attributes.

No Check Mark next to READ ONLY.
No Check Mark next to Hidden.

Still no luck. Prolly something simple that I have overlooked but any help on this would keep a few more gray hairs from showing themselves.

    Thank you

I have an issue where my HUB does not see any of the media servers on my network. When I am selecting a content source, (for videos or music) if choose "media Server", I get the error message "No content source available".

I have several media servers on my network, but the specific one I am trying to find is my PlayOn server, which streams Internet media. The odd part for me is that both my Roku and my LivePlus have no problem seeing PlayOn and showing any of the channels. THe LivePlus actually sees 3 of my Windows 7 boxes as media servers (I have them setup as MS's to test this issue) and can play content from them without any problems.

The HUB can find all of the other computers, including the one running PlayOn, over SMB and connect to them and play media from their shares.

I am out of ideas. I can push content to the HUB from PlayOn mobile on my Nexus7, and I can also use Twonky beam (thanks to mike27oct) to stream content to the HUB as well. It just does not see any of these devices on my network on it's own without the media being pushed at it.

Am I missing a setting somewhere that allows the HUB to see media servers? As above, the LivePlus works like a champ and sees all of them just fine. (that is still a GREAT product if you don't need a pretty front end)

Any idea greatly appreciated. I can continue to use the Roku for this purpose and still get the content to the same TV, but of course that is not really the right answer. I have to be missing something and it frustrating the #@$#! out of me

    TIA

Thank you. You are correct - I am on Mountain Lion. The problem didn't occur right when I switched the OS to Mountain Lion but a couple months after - perhaps when there was a software update? In any case, after I rebooted the TC, everything seemed to work fine again. Interestingly, all I did was go to the Airport Utility and hit the Update button. After a couple minute wait when the TC rebooted itself, my computers had no issues seeing and connecting to the external drive connected to the TC.

DB:2.70:Multiple Issues With Itunes Sharing. Help? sx

I have a Mac mini running 10.6.8 with iTunes 11.0.2 (and all other updates) connected to my living room television. I use it as a storage/playback system for my movie collection and a small amount of MP3s (about 250). This evening I decided to enable Home Sharing on all of my devices because, why not? All of my devices share the same Apple ID.First up was my daughter's iPad (original model) running iOS 5.1.1. It also had no problem with any of my media from the Mac mini, and still allows me to play locally-stored media giving me the option of using the iPad media or the Shared media.Next, an old iPhone 3GS. My daughter uses this primarily as a camera and as an MP3 player for when she's outside. It has no SIM card but is happily running iOS 6.1.2. This is where I had problems. While the 3GS is able to see and play back all of its locally-stored media, the only Shared media it will play is the MP3 library. When I use the "Video" app it doesn't even show the option for Shared media, only showing me the locally-stored media. So now I pull out my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.2 and it can see and play everything, both locally-stored and the Shared library. It's then that I realize there's something else amiss. I have two other Macs on my network with shared iTunes libraries under my Apple ID including an iMac (10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.2, and all other updates) and a second Mac mini (10.6.8, iTunes 11.0.2, and all other updates). My wife also has her MacBook Pro (10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.2, and all other updates) although she has her own Apple ID. With all Macs turned on, on the same network, and with iTunes running and sharing enabled:iTunes on the first Mac mini sees all three shared iTunes libraries (my iMac, my wife's MacBook Pro, and the second Mac mini).iTunes on my iMac sees none of the shared iTunes libraries.iTunes on my wife's MacBook Pro sees all three shared iTunes libraries (my iMac and both Mac minis).iTunes on the second Mac mini sees all three shared iTunes libraries (my iMac, my wife's MacBook Pro, and the first Mac mini). All of the iOS devices sees ONLY the first Mac mini's shared iTunes library, none of the others.I've done a ton of troubleshooting attempts to figure this out; multiple restarts and cold reboots of every device, rebooting the router, deleting preference files, creating new user accounts, restoring iOS devices to factory defaults, you name it. One disappointing result occurred when I deauthorized my first Mac mini. Suddenly it disappeared from all iOS devices. Figuring I was on to something I reauthorized that Mac mini but it never returned on the iOS devices. So although I did have my first Mac mini successfully shared at first, now I don't.I did notice that Apple says I have four authorized computers on my Apple ID. I'm not sure what the count is there. Does that include iOS devices? I know my iMac and my first Mac mini are authorized under my Apple ID but those are the only "computers" that are authorized. What ever happened to "Macs just work"?

DB:2.70:Multiple Issues With Itunes Sharing. Help? sx

I am having the same problem but might able to shed some light on the authorized computers listed:Did you ever have an old mac not in use anymore that was authorized? Even if you formatted the hard drive or reinstalled the OS is would show up as authorized unless you took the step to deauthorize it first. I had this problem when I upgraded my laptop - even though I formatted it I never deauthorized it so I had to "Deauthorize all" to get rid of it.Also - I've read on this board that even installing a new OS will add an authorized computer count. Simplest solution is to deauthorize all then reauthorize your two computers. Don't worry - you won't lose any data or media in your iTunes. It will just tell you you're not authorized to play that media (for media with DRM).

Try testing the drive connected directly to the computer.

There could be many reasons why the drive does not work behind the router.

Firewall, internet security and drivers to name a few might have some impact on the drive not been seen.

This is one of the reasons why we do not recommend using USB drives as network units.

Check in the router manufacturer web page to see if there's any known issues with the router.

Any computers connected via Ethernet to the router were unaffected, only computers connected via wireless connection could no longer print to shared printers.

To clarify - when I say shared printer I am referring to a printer connected directly to a PC via USB and shared out for other computers in the workgroup to use.

I did follow the instructions about resetting to standard and re-inputting all configuration to no avail.

As soon as I re-installed the previous version (38) it was fixed.

the streaming options to no avail. I have used this same Blu-Ray player with the Windows Media Center for at least 3 years with little problems until I upgraded to this new Windows Media Center with Windows 8 Pro... Can someone give me a step by step solution
to get the player to see the Media Server libraries? Frustrated is a huge understatement...
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Tried all that and none of it works. Thanks MS for changing the DLNA in Windows 8 without worrying about users. Who are we? nobody. I have the Blu-ray and Bravia from Sony and we might as well be on another planet. It used to work in Windows 7. DLNA was
relatively easy to use, except for the copy protection. Now it's hopeless. Did I thank MS?

    Hi,

After the initial installation of Parallels 6 on an iMac with OSX 10.6.5, all worked fine and I was able to see all PCs in the Microsoft Windows Network when running WinXP inside Parallels.

A glitch in the Internet connection resulted in having to alter the allocated static IP address of the iMac to connect through a different device and provider. Once original Internet was restored, setting the static IP back to original setting, I can now only see the WinXP WORKGROUP and PCs belonging to that group on the VM. Other PCs, like Domain Controllers on the same LAN and sub-net are no longer accessible.

Using the Search for Computers function in Win XP Explorer normally allows to search for computers by name or IP address. As an example, I have a Win2003 Server on 192.168.2.119. I can PING this IP from the VM, but the Search for Computers returns nothing. Real WinXPO PCs on the same sub-net see these resources without any problems.

This used to work after the original install of Parallels, as I still have a Mapped Drive pointing to the Win2003 Servers drive that now complains of inability to connect to the shared resource.

Any assistance with this would be appreciated.

    Regards,

If I have two computers and want to be able to work on the project on both computers is that possibe? I would have my media and projects stored on an external drive that both macs are connected to. I know in Avid it is possible, it simply locks the bins that are open on a different machine.

Ok I have this new WD TV Live streaming player (WDBHG70000NBK) and it plays my Windows 7 network shares and sees them just fine, but it cannot see the windows 7 media server at all. However, I have an older WDTV Live Plus HD media player (WDBABX0000NBK) and it sees the Windows 7 media server perfectly. Plays from it great too! I have no idea what's going on. If I have to I will just stick with playing files over the Shared folders but I thought that since this one is a newer model, and my older model is working great, that I would expect this to at least do what the older one can. I have them both connected via WIFI.

    Hi All,

    I've had a number of problems with my WD Live Hub with a wireless dongle (Netgear WN111v2);

    1. WD Live Hub kept freezing whenever wireless dongle was plugged in (all good now though)

    2. WD Live Hub kept saying network password was invalid, but then accepted it after multiple attempts.

    3. MAC can see WD Live Hub but keeps saying "connection failed" when trying to connect

    4. PC can see media conent on WD Live as a media server, but not other files.

The funny thing is that I got the whole setup working properly (both computers seeing Hub) once. I've trolled through the forums and tried a different IP address but that didn't work. Any ideas from anyone? This is really starting to frustrate me.

    Thanks in advance

Hi there, it sounds more like a networking problem. Try a different wireless adapter or a wired connection for testing, also try with a manual IP configuration to discard an tangent IP conflict.

    Hi
    Maybe this can Help.
If you have Permission and Security issues, check the following settings.
Point to the a Folder that meant to to be share. Right click and choose properties.
    In the properties
Click on the Security tab shown in the pic bellow to the right) and check that the users and their permission (shown in the pic bellow center and left) are correctly configured. Then do the same to the Permission tab.
This screen shot is from Win 7, Vista's menus are similar.
    http://www.ezlan.net/Win7/Permission-Security.jpg
In both the Security panel, and the Permission panel you have to highlight each User/Group and examine that the Permission Controls are checked correctly.
When everything is OK, Reboot the Network (Router, and computer).
    * Note . The Groups and Users shown in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will look the way your system is configured.
**Note . You have to establish specific users. Everyone means all of the users that already have an account and been established as users. It does not mean Everyone that feel that they would like to login.

I would like to use Media Foundation for the final version of a rather sophisticated record/playback application. The user's machine may have multiple output sources, and obviously we want to allow them to choose which one to use. I've been looking
over the documentation for topology and am not seeing very much about choosing an audio output sink. There will be times when we're doing both video and audio, but the question arises with regards to audio.

Originally I was using WASAPI for playback, but ran into problems with shared mode. Media Foundation looks like a better bet in a number of ways, but we really need to be able to show our users information about each output device and allow them to
    choose which one to use.

I have a D-Link DSM320 media extender with a few TB's of DVD's ripped to hard drives.  Most of which are attached to the WHS computer and shared in the Videos folder.  I can play them fine on my Vista desktop with Media Player or Cyberlink DVD but I want them to play on the TV via media extender.  TVersity is the best software for this purpose I could find.

Do I just remotely log on to the server and install it just like I would do it on Vista or XP?
Will the default folder locations for the install be okay?
I read somewhere here that installed services require some changes in the Admin Tools/Services so they always run on reboots.  Is the Services section similar to the same thing in Vista or XP?
Any other problems I may experience?
The WHS computer, the extender, and a network storage device with 3 more drives are on a wired LAN and the other computers are wireless so putting TVersity on one of the other computers totally uses up the wireless bandwidth. I have WHS working pretty good with some minor problems and don't want to mess it up so any help would be appreciated.

DB:2.61:How Do I Install Tversity On The Whs Computer? 3s

The XBMC software does all of the work.  Unfortunately you cannot install XBMC on a X360 yet LOL.    When I use XBMC on a notebook I too can steam anything from the WHS.  But the Xbox360 can only use the standard files.  Not really a problem for me as I will be using a HTPC running XBMC.The less you install on the WHS the happier it will be.

I believe part of the issue is because Network Magic is already end of life, http://store.linksys.com/software/cisco-software-network-magic_stcVVcatId553232VVviewcat.htmsothere is no software updates anymore. Welcome to Microsoft Answers!
Network discovery might be blocking you from seeing other computers and devices. If the network discovery setting on your computer is set to Off, you won't see other computers and devices on the network. To change your network discovery setting,
    follow these steps:
    1. Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the
Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking
Network and Internet, and then clicking Network and Sharing Center.

    2. If network discovery is off, click the arrow button to expand the section, click
Turn on network discovery, and then click Apply. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Step 3:
If above step does not resolves the issue, I would suggest you to take the ownership of the folder by the name “owner” or to the Administrator and check if it helps. You can refer the below link to know more about taking ownership:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753659.aspx

In addition to above steps, try enabling the “Guest” account on each computer and check for the issue.

    Hi,

When I load the Finder on my MacBook I keep seeing shared computers that I don't want to connect to (The network is a shared Internet Network between flats in a block).

Is there anyway that I can turn my MacBook network discovery off so I don't show on other people's sharing lists. Also what options can I use to turn off viewing sharing machines in my finder window?

    Thanks

In order to implement shared variables, it appears that all networked computers must have LV compiler installed and running the code that will have the shared variables so that an association may be made thru explicit binding. The problem with this is that I want to build my applications on my development computers to use shared variables and then I want to make executables to distribute to locations that do not have LV compilers. If shared variables are only good on a machine that is currently running he source code, then this whole shared variable idea seems very unusable. Any ideas?

DB:2.56:Problems With Implementing Lv Shared Vars For Executable Standalone Applications 88

What you need to do is build an executable from your code using the
Application Builder, then you'll be able to run it on machines that do
not have LabVIEW installed. These machines will need to have the LabVIEW Runtime engine (needs to be the same version as your version of LabVIEW) and any needed driver packages (NI-DAQ, VISA, ect.) installed, but these are a free download.

    Hello.
I have two computers running Windows 7. One, which I'll call Tower, is running Ultimate and has a dual-tuner installed. The second, which I'll call Netbook, is running Home Premium.
When I record a show on Tower, it shows under Tower's Media Center in Recorded TV. If I use Netbook and try Media Center, there are no shows listed, just the message: "Windows Media Center could not find any shared libraries on your network or there is
no content in those libraries. For information about using shared libraries, see Windows Help."
I have verified that my Homegroup is running correctly, and everything else works fine. Also, on Netbook I can watch the shows on Tower by using Media Player to access the shared library Recorded TV.
If I copy a show from Tower to Netbook, it shows in Tower's Media Center as a Shared Recorded TV show on Netbook.
I have removed and reinstalled Media Center on both PCs without any change.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I should try next?

    Hello,

    Here is my setup:

I am running my Live unitwired to my router .I alsohave an external Seagate expansion drive 500gb plugged via USB to the live. I share networks beetween 1 PC and1 laptop wireless running Vist 32 bit on both units.

    Here is my problem:

I am running the same user name and password on both computers. I was expecting the Live to remember my credentials and log in automatically when i switched beetween network sharing from 1 computer to the other, but it does not. I have to manually enter the user name and password each time i want to acces another PC

I tried removing the passwords on both computers to ease my access via the network share on the Live but then got the message that "no media was found" . I checked my sharing permissions and my network sharing properties on both machine and all seem fine.

How can i access the shared folders on both computers without entering the user name and password each time?

Hope you guys can help me out ?

    Thank you in advance,

If that security model works for you, It's worth a try....

Or, you could try upgrading to the pre-released firmware. Some users are reporting better results when they have multiple computers (but, they're using different USER IDs, too, but it still might help.)

    Hi there,

I am having problems again with my TV Live seeing my network PCs.

I am trying to access shared folders on my Windows Server 2008 machine. The server is not set up as a domain controller, it's on a simple workgroup named "Home"

When I attempt to look for media using the TV Live, it doesn't displaythe server. It does however display a networked hard drive and the name of my workgroup. Why it thinks the workgroup is a computer with content I don't know.

Anyway, on the server I do have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled. It's also set as the "Comptuer Browser" and other PCs on the network can see it.

The TV Live is connecting to internet services without any problems and computers on the network are able to see the TV Live on the network.

The TV Live has been working quite happily for a few weeks until it refused to play a video file this morning. I just got the spinning yellow circle as it tried to load the video. Browsing to other video files yielded the same result when trying to play them.

Upon reboot, it no longer saw my networked computers.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

DB:2.55:Problems Seeing My Network Pcs 8k

    Thanks for that.

I should have added that I ended up getting it working. Remember that it was working for several weeks with no issues.

Workgroup was the same on all PCs.

Somehow one of my tablets managed to screw up which computer was assigned to the Master Computer Browser role. Even though the computer elected as the Master Browser could see the server, the WD TV Live box could not see it listed on the network.

Anyway, I turned off the Computer Browser service on all PCs but the server and it seems to be working OK now.

Little frustrating and I could see someone with a little less knowledge than I becoming quite frustrated with this. It also doesn't help that you can only browse to computers in the list, you can't access them by typing in the name of the PC directly. If it's not on the list, you're hooped.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

This behavior may be related to your hardware. Please read the following article.

Using Crossover Cables in Home or Peer-to-Peer Networks
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278870/en-us

During this situation, our assistance is limited, and we cannot guarantee that the issue will be resolved. I strongly suggest that you add a network device such as a network switch or a router to enable the communication between the two computers.

Let's attempt something and see if it helps. I suggest that you temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall on both computers. Then check the performance. If the issue persists, try to upgrade the network adapter driver on both computers.

You may boot in Clean Boot Mode to narrow down if the issue is caused by any third party programs.

    Clean boot
    =================
Let’s disable all startup items and third party services when booting. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:

    1. Click the Start Button type msconfig (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.

    2. Click the Services tab, check the Hide All Microsoft Services box and click Disable All (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK.

Then, restart the computer. When the System Configuration Utility window appears, please check the Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts box and click OK.

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

OK, here's my problem. I am having problems seeing the shared files on other computers in the home network. The desktop computer runs Windows XP and has the physical connection to the printer. The Internet connection comes through cable tothe Netgear

All computers have Internet connectivity OK. I've done all the usual network set-up things you're supposed to do ... or so I think. I've worked the usual network setup wizard like you're supposed to. I've ensured I set the printer and desired folders
to share. I had no problem seeing the folders and printing with the old Linksys router, but the problems started with the Netgear router. Now I get intermittent success in seeing the shared folders and using the printer. Anyone got any ideas?

I have a problem that my company has inherited from a client's previous IT Director. We don't have nearly enough information on the situation but are working with what we have been able to decipher from his notes.
We were having an issue with an old domain controller. It is no longer the primary domain controller, but it is still playing some roles in the network. Trying to get a snapshot of it in VSphere someone took the server down. This caused some DNS problems
with Sharepoint, the print server, and caused some permissions issues with some shared drives. The person who took it down was able to make a new machine and load an old backup. A backup from September, I know, shitty situation but also inherited from former
IT Director. Anyways, it appears that this DC hasn't synced with the primary domain controller or either of the other backup domain controllers since a few weeks before this backup.
Since the virtual server of the backup was stood up we continue to see problems with Sharepoint permissions, some shared drives permissions, and we continue to get domain trust problems on many people's computers. I also appear to be seeing problems with
Group Policy updates on many user's machines.
I know this isn't much information to go off of but I was hoping this might be able to jump start s discussion that could lead me in the right direction with what to do.
I was thinking of removing the problematic dc altogether and setting up a different server for the shared drives that were running on it. So I would then go to the servers that are pointing to it and change the dns servers they look at in the network settings.
I'm not sure what to do about the rights issues however. I assume the shared drive problems will clear as i set everything up on the new file server, but my problems with Sharepoint and the domain trust issues I am seeing I am not sure what to do with.

Unselected 'Use Default Settings' and clicked 'OK'
Now all of the videos will share fine. I am not sure what the default settings did not like about the videos. The funny thing is that if I added the videos to the 'Picture' library, they would actually share prior to this change.

    Hi -

we are using Adobe CC Premiere on both MAC OS X 10.8 and a single Window 7 machine. All the computers are on a MAC os X Server network with RAID. The Macs connect to the OS X Server using Apple AFP (via 10G switch), and everything is working fine.

However the single Win 7 machine (also running Adobe CC) is having great problems. We are using Thursby DAVE on the OS X Server to provide a working SMB protocol to the Win 7 machine, to allow for connection.

We can map the network drive (The Mac shared volume) without issue, and we can open up files in Premiere, and play the files without issue. However, when we try to import footage, or browse folders thru the media browser, everything slows down to a crawl on the Win 7 machine. Once the connection is made successfully, it works fine thoughout the session. However, if I attempt to grab media from another folder on the shared volume, then everything becomes very slow again, and even the folder that was playing back fine previously, is now very slow (skipped frames, stuttered playback, etc...)

Ever since installing Thursby DAVE (the .smb protocol for OS X), I can no longer import .mov files from the shared network volume.

SO, using an OS X Server as a shared storage device for these systems (which work perfectly with other Mac's and Apple AFP) - are there any known issues using an .smb connected machine with Adobe CC to an Apple OS X network ? As you may know, the native .smb that Apple provides in OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion does not work, so I am forced to use Thursby DAVE as the .smb protocol for this application.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    hi there,

a strict typedef includes not only the data type but also the look of the control. since the shared variable only holds the data some information gets cut off, therefore you see a coercion dot.

similar behaviour can be seen with value - properties of control references of strict typedefs after a class cast to a non-strict class (but with same datatype).

    1. Desktop PC - Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 (My Main PC) 10/100/1000 wired
    2. Media Centre - Vista 32 Home Premium SP1 (Media Centre PC) 802.11G wireless
    3. Server - Windows 2003 Server 10/100 wired
    4. Laptop - Windows XP SP2 802.11G wireless

I started out life with the main iTunes library on my desktop PC; but I'm in the progress of moving to the server which is powered all the time. I also want to be able to play music from the media centre. So currently I have the server and desktop as authorised clients; and both sharing libraries.

Now, the media centre PC absolutely refuses to see EITHER of the shared libraries; both the desktop and server can see each other; I also installed iTunes on my laptop and it also is able to see both shared libraries.

The Media centre is connected to the network and can see network shares and communicate with the other PCs. I've also tested that I can telnet to the dekstop PC on port 3689 from the Media centre and I get a response suggesting that it's not a firewall issue (and yes I have also allowed UDP port 5353 through to)

I doubt that it's a firewall issue since the server and the laptop can see the library; so that points the finger at the media centre PC (not running a firewall currently) since it cannot see ANY of the libraries (yes the look for libraries option is ticked) I've also tried installing bonjour on both media centre and the desktop...

I'm at a loss as to what to try next.

    Any ideas would be welcomed...

I'm also exploring another difference that is the media centre is connected via a wireless extender whereas the laptop connects straight to the access point. However I'm not so convinced it's a comms issue as the media centre can communicate with the desktop PC and even connect to the port that iTunes is allegedly using; I am also able to access shares on the server so that would seem to cast doubt on a comms issue...

DB:2.52:Itunes Library Sharing Wierdness... Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated. jx

Just thought something else to mention, the Desktop PC can see the Media centre library, which I've just added a couple of songs to and shared...

    Hello Forum...

I have had my Live HUB formore than 1year now and have streamed media from peripheral sources on my network many different times. Currently, most of my media is stored on my unRAID NAS which the HUB has no problems recognizing and thanks to the recent firmware updates, setting up shares has been very fluid...that is until now!!

A friend gave me a 2TB HD andI figured I'd put it inside my PC(W7) and set up a share for my TV shows. Great Idea, BUT, it will only work if the HUB sees the media inside the folder im trying toshare. The HUB recognizes the the drive path becausethe drive letter shows up whenI select network shares----MyPC,BUT, when Iselect the drive letter that has my shows I get a message saying "No media found".... wierd!!

I'm sure the the shares are set-up properly because my other devices(HTPC's running XBMC)have no problems seeing the media inside the new drive!

    ....any ideas??

If you have Windows 7, right click on the folder that you would like to share go to properties/security, and check if"everyone" is added as a user name, with all of the permissions check boxes selected.

My Xbox 360 cannot see any of the shared folders on my WHS box.  Music, photo and video folders are shared on the WHS box.  I have no issues seeing the WHS from other computers on the network.  In fact, I have a Kodak wifi picture frame that sees the WHS shares.  The XBox also has no problems seeing my other computer or Media Center computer as well (both running WMP 11).

Let me describe my physical network: I have 4 individual runs of Cat 5 wiring to various rooms of my house that tie back together with a plain old 5 port switch (this is not a combo router/switch). I have a Linksys wireless router/switch plugged into one of the runs which provides internet access via a cable modem.  I plugged the WHS box into one of the open ports on the Linksys box.

I have a suspicion my network's physical layout may be an issue because if I plug in the WHS into one of the other runs that goes directly back into the plain old switch, Xbox 360 can see it.  However, when I plug the WHS into the back of the linksys box, it becomes invisisble to the XBox.  However, other computers and the picture frame have no problems seeing it.  I have not had any other issues with this nework configuration to date.

This seems strange.  Anyone have any ideas?

DB:2.51:Media Center Freezes In Dvd Library For Shared Files Only s9

This is convoluted, so bear with me...

There are two computers running Home Premium on a wireless network. Both are set to private network settings with password protected sharing disabled, and both are in the same workgroup.
I have multiple DVDs ripped and stored on one computer as .VOB files (via DVDfab).
The root folder containing subfolders for each DVD is shared for Everyone. I can see this folder in My Computer, Windows Explorer, and as a folder to watch from within Media Center, both from the Setting menu and the DVD Library menu, and on BOTH computers
DVD Library was enabled via the most easily searchable registry hack on BOTH computers.
The DVDs do NOT show up in the DVD Library if I watch the root folder from the Settings menu.
They DO show up in the DVD Library if I watch the root folder from the DVD Library menu (right click - add folder...).
I CAN play the DVDs from the DVD Library on the computer on which they are stored.
I CANNOT play the DVDs from the DVD Library on the computer on which they are NOT stored: trying to do so causes BOTH computers to freeze indefinitely.

This really seems like a Media Center issue, because I'm running Vista Ultimate at another location, sharing .AVIs and .MP4s and the like over a network, and my roommates and I have no problems accessing them while I'm busy doing a million other things.
I have come up with (and have not yet tested) the following workaround, but please stop me if there is a way to do this from Media Center:

DB:2.51:Media Center Freezes In Dvd Library For Shared Files Only s9

    Hey m4ik3ru,
This looks like a firewall issue as the computer freezes only while trying to play the DVDs. Try to disable firewalls on both the computers.

Also try to disable the Anti-virus priogram that you have installed on both the computers and see.

DB:2.50:Cant See Network Shares But Can See Media Servers......? 7m

This problem seems to be all over the forums.

I'm at my wits end with these devices.

I have 4! wdtv live (gen 1) and up until recently people thought I worked for WD as I would always tell people how great these little boxes are.

But ever since the eternal loop of "there is no media..." and/or "Invalid username...." error messages,

Having to reboot, clear log in info, change auto log in, sacrifice a chicken, say 10 Hail Marys etc..

Just praying the the problem will fix itself, and then at best, if it does, you get a couple of days use, before the same problem hits again.

Honestly, what the **bleep** is going on? This is clearly a problem that is effecting many many people, have WD even acknowledged that a problem exists?

I see that they removed the latest firmware, but they did not list the above as one of the reasons.

The amount of time I have spent on ALL 4 OF MY WDTV live boxes just trying to stream something from my network is insane

I've posted on various threads over the past few weeks, but WD have yet to respond

DB:2.49:A Few Questions About Internet Sharing And Security ks

Hi, I have an iMac connected to my aparment complexes' wireless network. I realize this isn't the safest way to be online so I was wondering what I could do to protect my computer. When I open a finder window I see all the other computers listed in the "shared computers" menu and this makes me nervous that mine is showing up in others' finders as well. I would like to know how I can prevent everyone else from seeing my computer on our shared network, and possibly prohibit those that still can see my computer from getting access to it. Sounds a little perinoid I know, but it just bothers me to know people have potential access to my files and such. Also I have an Apple tv and wireless printer. I was wondering if there was a way to connect my own wireless router to my iMac (via the ethernet port) directly so that I would have an exclusive (to me and possibly my roomates) connection to wirelessly print, transfer media to/from the Appletv, and rent and buy things from the Appletv online, but also stay connected to the internet. I hope that wasn't confusing, but would appreciate any ideas.

DB:2.49:A Few Questions About Internet Sharing And Security ks

You already got some good advice on what you should do, but if you decide to stay with the public wifi in your apartment complex, search around the internet for ways to protect yourself on public wifi. There are many articles written in the magazines and blogs that discuss the security issues of using public wifi.

One thing I can think of immediately is to find out if your email provider allows ssl connections. Just like ssl on your browser, ssl connections to your email will prevent anyone from intercepting your emails when you send and receive. If you use a webmail interface, then you are most likely using ssl to connect via your browser already. It's not that anyone will just randomly see your email; they would have to be actively snooping for it.

If you find something you don't understand or you need it translated from Windows to Mac, let us know.

In an effort to improve transfer speeds and get the media server function working on the attached 1.5TB USB drive, I'm seeing a lot of folks recommend reformatting using Ext3. Few questions on that.

    1. Would formatting to Ext3 cause compatibility problems with Win7 Pro 64bit?

    2. If not, how exactly would I go about formatting to Ext3 using Win7 Pro 64bit?

    3. I currently backup this drive (the one connected to the USB port on the router) to a separate NAS that is used only for backups of network drives and the various computers on the network, using Acronis TrueImage Home 10. Does anyone know if this will still be doable if I change the formatting from NTFS to Ext3?

    Thanks in advance!

DB:2.49:Format Usb Drive In Ext3? sa

Right, that's why I haven't tried turning it back on yet (I have about 150GB worth of media on there). There is some suggestion in the thread dedicated to this issue that changing the formatting to ext3 might help with this. I'm not optimistic on that given the seemingly unrelated apparent reason for the media server freeze ups (i.e. resources of router insufficient to handle the indexing of a large volume of files), but who knows.

DB:2.49:Problems With Ncs And Vmware Server xc

I'm trying to setup a 2 node cluster using VMware Server but have run into

a problem. Both servers (NW65 SP5) are up and running and I've followed the

VMware admin guide to create the shared disks. Both of these are marked as

    sharable for clustering (via NSSMU).

Problem is, when I try to select 'Yes' for 'Does the cluster have shared

media?' I get the following error:

This selection is invalid because there is no shared media available.

Both servers see the shared disks and I have tried re-initializing (F3 in

NSSMU) both devices but still no joy. Any ideas?

    TIA

DB:2.49:Problems With Ncs And Vmware Server xc

Had same issue. Kinda long, but here is what I did. Only problem left is seeing many entries under list devices for each LUN.

    Install 2 nodes as follows:

    1. Create the virtual machine

    create new virtual mcahine

    select custom

select Novell Netware, and Netware 6

name the virtual machine ; I used NW65-A and NW65-B

do not make it a private machine

leave the user account info as is

    one processor

    512MB of memory

    bridged networking

    select buslogic (this is important)

    create virtual disk

    select IDE (this is important)

make the disk 4GB and allocate now

name the VMDK the same as the virtual machine

    2. Install Netware 6 SP5 DVD OS Overlay

attach the ISO to this machine and disconnect the Floppy

    start the VM

    select English

    Country - 004, Code Page - 850, Keyboard - US

    acknowledge the licence agreement

    select manual install

    create 500MB DOS partition

leave server settings as is, file copy 1 will start

    platform driver (ACPIDRV)

    storage driver (IDEATA)

    storage devices (IDECD,IDEHD)

    network boards (PCNTNW.LAN)

    SYS volume of 3.6GB

continue installation, file copy 2 will start

    select custom server install

install Apache 2 and iManager 2.6

install iManager plugins, file copy 3 will start

    name the server (ie NW65-B)

give it and IP, no IPX

    leave DNS info blank

    select Eastern Time Zone

install into new or existing tree as required

login with rights to the container

    acknowledge the eDirectory install screen

add a licence (unless you have and MLA licence)

    ack the LDAP screen

ack the NMAS login method screen, file copy 4 will start

when asked at the end of the install, disconnect the ISO and floppy

    ack the reset server screen

    3. Post install

edit autoexec.ncf, change MOUNT ALL to SYS, rem out STARTX

edit autoexec.bat, add -nl to end of SERVER.EXE

    install VMWtools, run VMWtools:\setup

    down server

4a. Create SBD or Quorum (first node only)

edit hardware settings of first node

    add hard disk

    select create virtual disk

select SCSI (it'll be a buslogic since that's how the VM was created)

for the quorum make it the smallest .1 GB and allocate disk space now

    name it NW-SBD.VMDK

    start the VM

4b. Point to SBD or Quorum (subsequent nodes only)

edit hardware settings of subsequent node

    add hard disk

select use an existing virtual disk

browse to the NW-SBD.VMDK file create in 4a.

    start the VM

    5. Install Novell buslogic Driver

list devices does not show the SCSI LUN, that's ok

download the buslogic driver identified in the VMWare Server admin manual onto a diskette

connect the diskette to the VM

    run HDETECT

add a manual Storage Driver and point to the floppy, select the BLMM3 driver

    add the Storage Device SCSIHD

continue to exit HDETECT and do a list devices

Driver is shown as "VMware, VMware Virtual S f/w:1.0 \[HDD]"

    6. Prepare SBD Partition

    run NSSMU

select Devices and choose the SBD you created

F3 to initialize and F6 to make it shared

    exit NSSMU

    7. Modify vmx file to share the drive

    down both novell VMs

browse to the VMs .vmx file and edit it

add the next 2 lines (match the 0 in scsi0 to the correct scsi LUN you have, case sensitive and watch the quotation marks)

    scsi0.sharedBus = virtual

    disk.locking = FALSE

make sure you have this line too: scsi0.present = true

    8. Install Cluster Services

ensure you login and have a mapping to the SYS volumes of all cluster nodes

mount the NW65OS DVD on the logged in workstation

run NWDEPLOY, ack the popup (if you have popup blocker on)

left pane at the bottom, Install/Upgrade cluster

right pane, click Install or Upgrade a cluster

select create a new cluster, you can skip the file copy as the files are already installed with the OS

name the cluster and install it in the container with the servers

browse and select the nodes you want to be part of the cluster, then add and ok

select an ip for the cluster object

if everything is working, the install would have detected the shared media

select Yes for shared media, the 100MB disk should be shown

select Yes to automatically load clustering

    Next steps

You can now create cluster resources such as volumes (the same way the SBD was created) as well as clustering other functions as you would in a the real world.

You may want to add some replicas and so on.

On first boot they can both access the internet, but they cannot access each other until I do an 'ipconfig /renew' in the command prompt. Doing this allows them to see each other, ping each other and the router to see them as well.

I wouldn't be posting this unless I already checked everywhere for a similar problem or answer so please bare with me.

I am trying to set up my media sharing between 2 PC's and my PS3. Let me give you a run down of how my network is set up.

2wire DSL wireless router with 2 access points attached (hard wired). First access point is a belkin second is linksys. both access points are using the 2wire configuration options.

system 1 : windows vista x64 ultimate : hard wired into network at 2wire router. using windows media player 11 all media sharing options have been selected. all devices found for media sharing have been allowed for sharing (including PS3).

system 2: Laptop with windows vista x64 ultimate : wireless connection (to any of the 3 access points) using windows media player 11 all media sharing options have been selected. all devices found for media sharing have been allowed for sharing (including PS3).

PS3 : upnp enabled, system status shows upnp is not available. PS3 can see both the PC and Laptop for media sharing but there are no files in any of the directory's. PS3 updated with the latest software.

already tried reseting all systems and disabling/re-enabling media sharing. tried both systems one at a time. added all shared folders to WMP11 library that have music/mp3's on the system. made every folder (including drive and root folders) a shared folder on both laptop and PC. Turned off all anti virus software.

I have tried so many different options that I don't even remember them right now. I just don't understand how the PS3 is seeing the systems but not allowing me to access any of the media off of them. It just gives me the message there is no media/files.

I have also tried other programs such as orb and some other one with a long weird name.

Also I am having trouble seeing some of the songs that I am "Watching" with WMP11. I will add the new folders but once I click done it says 0 folders 0 files added and zips through it.

Is there any way to have WMP11 just search through the entire system for all mp3/Avi files to add them to the library like in previous versions? my guess is this watching folders thing would do that but anything new that I add dosn't get added.

I'm all out of options please help

    DB:2.48:Media Sharing Problems 38

OK, I haven't had a chance to try this but I am sitting at work just trying to think of new ways to fix this problem or what I may have done in the past to create this problem.

Being a neat freak and trying to utilize my PC to the fullest without interference of other programs that I don't like sitting around running in the back round. I originally turned off a few features in the msconfig startup folder. Looking at the system (or at least this is what my cousin is telling me over the phone) svchost.exe is not running and if I remember correctly I turned this off because I never was using VPN but now I am noticing that Media Share requires these ports to be opened :

    1900
    UPD SSDP
    svchost.exe
    Inbound/Outbound

    2869
    TCP SSDP, UPnP
    svchost.exe
    Inbound

    2177
    TCP UDP qWAVE
    svchost.exe
    Inbound/Outbound

Is it possible that because of my system does not pre-loading svchost.exe could be the reason why I am not seeing any files? I mean again I can see the systems connected but just no files and everything is shared. I'm getting to the point that I am thinking about reinstalling my system with a new copy of vista ultimate. All in all I think that will be my final resort.

Thanks for all the ideas in the mean time thou.

I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have no problems connecting to my home network. I also have no problems connecting to my college network while on campus. However, I am having problems related to my network drive on my college network
as well as seeing other devices on my home network. I have the following information to aid with suggestions:
laptop specs: HP Pavilion dv6-1264ca Artist Edition 2, AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-core ZM-82 @ 2.20 GHz / core, 4.00 GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive
dual booting Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Ubuntu 10.10, using GRUB bootloader. Windows is my preferred OS.
500 GB hard drive: 30 GB for Windows, 25 GB for Ubuntu, rest is "storage" for documents, music, pictures, etc...
I have disabled some Windows services, which may affect certain Windows functionality.
I have two different scenarios here and I would appreciate both to hopefully be fixed.
I will start with my home network. I use a D-Link DIR-625 Rangebooster N wireless router. There are four computers (all connect with wireless N), an XBOX 360 (wireless G), and two iPod touch devices (both second gen models on wireless G) on the network.
The computers are as follows: a Mac, my laptop, a desktop running Windows XP (either Media Center or Home, I don't remember), and a laptop running Ubuntu 8.10. There is an HP Color LaserJet printer attached to the desktop with XP. The other laptop (running
Ubuntu 8.10), the XP desktop, and the Mac can all see each other, and they can all print using that printer (the printer is shared on the network via the XP desktop). My Windows 7 installation cannot see any network devices other than the router. Internet
    access is fine.
The second scenario is when I use my laptop at school. I attend Algonquin College in Ottawa and they allow mapping of your network drive to your laptop to access school documents saved on the school network from your laptop. The share is located at \\algshare\home,
but when I try to map the drive to my laptop (and enter my credentials), it refuses to connect after several credentials pop-ups, citing the path as invalid (which I know it is not). I can see other laptops on the college network while I am on campus (which
adds to the confusion of my first problem) and I have internet access at college, but I can not access my shared drive on-campus using my laptop.
Does anybody have any suggestions (services, registry settings, network settings, etc...) that might explain my problems? Thanks in advance
EDIT: forgot some info. The printer is an HP Color LaserJet 1600 (forgot the model number). Both my home network and the college network are treated by Windows as home networks. HomeGroup is disabled (I have no need for it, or so I think). And my Ubuntu
10.10 is the 64 bit version.

    Hi Benjamin,

Make sure that the Network discovery is turned on in Windows 7 computer.Network discovery is anetwork setting that affects whether your computer can find other computers and devices on the network and whether
other computers on the network can find your computer.
To turn on network discovery inWindows7, follow the steps below:

a.Open Advanced sharing settings by clicking the
    Start button, and then clicking
Control Panel. In the search box, type
network, clickNetwork and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, clickChange advanced sharing settings.
b.Click the chevron to expand the
    Home or Work network profile.
c.Select the options to turn on network discovery.

d.Click on Save changes and Exit.

Restart the computer and check if it helps you access the network device and map the network drive in your school network.

You may also access the link below and follow the steps to network the computer running different version of Windows and check if it helps you fix the home network issue and if you can access the network devices.

Suddenly, I do not have a "shared" list, the network is empty, but I can still connect to the network, access the internet and email, and print to network printers. We operate on a wireless network.

I've tried command-k and put in the file sharing machine address and it just gives "connection failed" does not exist, etc.

Using QuickTime's "Find" command I searched for a word that I knew is in the text track, checked it against a copy of the movie on the PowerMac where I can see the CC. I can find the word, the movie jumps to that frame. I am assuming that the text is there, it is just not displaying white text on black.

The lesson plan movie settings are:

    Video track - 1 Sorenson Video 3
Audio track - QDesign Music 2
    Text track - text

I can export the movie using a different video codec and it will display the CC on the G4 iBook! I used H.264 Now this movie does not have the text track, but the CC is displayed.

The only difference I can see between the setups is that the troublesome G4 iBook is almost new with stock QuickTime. The QuickTime on the PowerMac G4 and G3 iBook have been upgraded a number of times.

(i.e. I have no problem streaming from other machines' media libraries) but not the other way around. This PC shows up on my other Win7 machines but when I go to access the libraries, I get the error The remote media library did not allow the connection.
Also, when I try to access the libraries via my PS3, I get the DLNA 501 error. All of these previously worked when this machine was running Win7.

Again, this PC now running Win8 did NOT have these problems when running Win7. The media server is also showing up on my other Win7 machines and my PS3, they just can't access the libraries. I've already allowed media sharing as well as reset
my routers but nothing fixed it. I also created a new Homegroup and that didn't work, either. However, if I share one of my media folders, I can access the files via shared network folder, just not the media sharing function of Media Player.

    Can anyone recommend a fix?

As an update, I did a clean reinstall ofWindows 8and the problem persisted. I then replaced my routers thinking that may be the problem.
Previously, I was cascading two routers for all my connections. My PC that has the media libraries I want to stream is on the main router that's connected directly to my modem. All other machines are connected wired or wirelessly to a second
router that's cascaded from the first. The machines on the second router cannot stream libraries from the main machine on the first router. However, the main machine on the first router CAN stream libraries from machines on the second router.
Thinking my old routers may have been the issue (even though they never presented this problem when everything was running on XP, Vista, or 7, I just replaced both of them with two routers of the same brand and model. They are all still connected the
same way (cascaded) but the problem persists.
Could this still have something to do with the routers? Does Windows 8 have a problem with this type of connection even though no prior versions of Windows did?
I'm out of ideas on what else I can do.

I have exactly the same problem. Also I tried more or less the same as you but nothing.
Just for your info: pictures are sharing ok but not videos or music.
Also with my XBOX360 and PS3 I have the same problem, cannot see videos or music from my windows 8 machine, before in W7 yes.
In my XBOX360 the play to function in working perfect, so I don´t understand why but for sure something changed from W7 to W8 in this matter. Anyway this function is NOT
    what I need/want.
It is necessary good support from MS in this.
