    DB:3.12:Connector &Amp; E-Mail Messages Not Using Mime 3x

One of our university's forms systems has the option of E-mailing a PDF of a form you've created. Just from looking at the headers of the E-mail, it doesn't appear to be using MIME.
The trouble with the Oracle Connector is, the PDFs attached in the E-mails from that system in the E-mail messages as garbage text.
I've tested this with others using the Connector, as well as people using regular Outlook 2003 and Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird and regular Outlook show the message with PDF attachment.

Let me know what you think.

    DB:3.12:Connector &Amp; E-Mail Messages Not Using Mime 3x

Having had to teach this university's official "broadcast email" folks about MIME, I'd say... make them do it right. MIME is there for a reason, to insure that what you send can be received.

Just because some clients work with messages sent improperly, that's no reason to do it improperly.

I can't think of a way to view your local Thunderbird mailbox from within Firefox. To view your mail in Firefox, I think you would still need to go to your email service provider's website and use their webmail interface. Maybe someone is aware of an add-on that can get closer to what you're looking for.

DB:2.83:How To Import Email From Thunderbird To Outlook 2007 js

I have a client with 25GB of email

Wow! 25 GIGABYTES? Does he REALLY need all that?

    Thanks for the reply!

That is not uncommon for my clients, they have data retention policies, and were using Thunderbird for many years before I took over. So can you imagine 5 years of email....imap is definitely not a smooth process. And unfortunately they all want the 5+
years of emails available and not archived. So GMAIL is out...yes I know gmail for business, blah blah blah...money saved, money in my pocket!

I have encountered many issues before trying that imap route, where folder names if not adhering to gmail character rules would kill the entire transfer (special chars, back slashes, dots etc.)

I guess imap transfer is ok for small migrations with flat folder structures, but 25 gigs with 300 folders and sub folders of sub folders is complicated... I am glad though that I was able to do this without much effort...I have seen too many solutions tricking
people into downloading trialware with only a sample being migrated.

Anyway, Outlook 2013 seems to have resolved this issue...

I think you will either need Outlook on your computer (Thunderbird uses Outlook to extract your data) or a custom tool to extract your Outlook Contacts to a standard format.

If you can still open your PST in Outlook, you can export your Contacts to a CSV file, and also as vCards using one of the methods described in this article: http://www.msoutlook.info/question/803 (note: I haven't tested those myself). I suggest creating both formats in case you run into problems with one of them.

What is the easiest method to import the outlook 2003 contacts (adresbook) to Thunderbird which is installed on Ubuntu. (Windows XP + Ubuntu 14.04 installed on same computer)

I'm a bit surprised that even today, this somehow seems to remain kind of a problem. Articles are pointing to complicated procedures, implicating various other programs which should helping in resolving what should be a simple import of the oulook.pst files.

Outlook can export to various type of files. Which format could Thunderbird itself use to import "directly" with some chance of succes ?

I trust that Mozilla is aware of it that it still is a point of concern to users.
Focussing on migration is the first priority after installation.

I found a very good Dutch article about installation
    http://support.mozilla.org/nl/kb/thunderbird-installeren-linux.

But about importing from Oulook (2003 or other) , I wasn't able to find some straigthforward guidance for a "easy" and simple import operation, probably because there still isn't one yet.

    Thank you.

DB:2.78:How To Import Outlook 2003 Contacts To Thunderbird ca

    Question owner

My point is to draw attention of Mozilla to the fact that the more users find it easy to import from Windows, the better there is a chance to switch towards open source.

Yesterday I imported from Outlook 2003 (on my wife's PC) her address book into Thunderbird last version (with Ubuntu 14.04, also last version). I can assure you that it was NOT a piece of cake !
It took quite a time to adjust on data selection and organizing fields. Is that Microsoft fault ? I'm not so sure.

I agree on Microsoft's wrong attitudes, and therefore always was a Linux follower, hoping that open source would become better and more userfriendly than Windows.

My attitude towards open source is to give it confidence to become even better. So I'll never give up, but there still is much work to do. Ubuntu has improved quite a lot, at each new release. Still it runs slower than XP on my old machine.

And neither of both burned Mint installation CD's would not even run.

All of your problems with Outlook Express can be fixed by switching to Thunderbird for your e-mail client

    www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

I am really surprised that all the people that advocate switching browsers to Firefox are not also advocating everyone switch to Thunderbird for their mail client.

Thunderbird is easy to setup and easy to use. You can even use both Thunderbird and Outlook Express until you get comfortable enough with it to migrate everything to Thunderbird and say goodbye to OE (just set Thunderbird to leave messages on the server so you can still download them in OE until you are ready to switch for good).

Thunderbird is similar to the Netscape mozilla mail client and it works fine with both POP3 and LDAP mail servers, just dont expect it to work with your webmail accounts.

DB:2.77:Having Problems With Outlook Express? Read This 3d

I understand, I'm just pointing out that the users are having problems with OE becasue of their own errors which for the most part have nothing to do with OE itself. And you see more about OE than anything else, since more people use OE that any other email client. It's simple statistics. This is a Help forum, so you see people with problems. And since OE use far outweighs the use of any other email client (except maybe Webmail which is a very different animal), you see more OE problems. Thunderbird gets so few since it has so few users, comparatively. But if you've spent any time here you will see that 99% of the issues posted here are cuased by the users themselves and not by the client. So a simple switch to another client is not going to help them usually.

Your post gives inexperienced users the idea that there is something inherently wrong or substandard about OE. And as much as I like to rag on Microsoft, I really can't complain about OE all that much. It's a good, solid email client. It has all the standard features you can reasonably expect, it uses standard POP3 and SMTP servers, it has a decent level of control and options, and it has no real glaring bugs that I am aware of.

Your most welcome Rick. I'm just a newbie trying to figure this one out for myself, too. Has a lot to do with who your ISP is, too. For instance, I just learned that MSN won't even support you using Thunderbird. Pretty cheesy, I thought. I'm switching from them, probably today anyway. Had nothing but problems with me Inbox the last two months. I don't have time for this silliness.

I've been using Firefox now for several months and really like it, so it just made sense to start with Thunderbird, too. I'm calling Verizon here shortly to inquire if they will support Thunderbird. Otherwise, I'm absolutely amazed at how much of their ISP info they already have on their website, www.verizon.net. It's hard to find a good one these days. Remember to check on the mozilla.org site for additional help. They have their knowledge base, support forums - even one specifically for Thunderbird, etc. Pretty good operation. Best of luck to you and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, too.

    Hi,

I recently installed Seamonkey, and I don't plan to use Mozilla, Firefox, or Thunderbird. Does Solaris need these kept on the system for any reason? I'm tempted to just pkgrm them but I wasn't sure if the OS had any applications that were keyed to these specific apps.

    DB:2.74:Do I Need Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird? 9c

I would be wary of tossing the mozilla install as well I have found that its java and flash features work consistently while adding them to seamonkey and firefox can sometimes be a disappointing and mystical experience. When something seems borked at a website I like being able to check if the sun provided moz works and most of the time it does. Other than that I never use it.

Currently, the mozilla stuff we have in archlinux is a big mess:

    - mozilla /opt/mozilla- mozilla-firefox /opt/mozilla-firefox- mozilla-thunderbird /opt/mozilla-thunderbird- nss-nspr /usr- gecko-sdk /opt/gecko-sdk

Mozilla stuff is installed everywhere on the filesystem. For example, every one of these packages provides a nss-nspr, and someone who has installed firefox, gnome and ximian connector, has all of the above in his system, except for mozilla thunderbird. I see 4 nss-nspr libraries installed (why does ximian-connector depend on gecko-sdk if evolution depends on nss-nspr?)

I think all of these 5 could provide nspr-nss-runtime, wile only gecko-sdk and nss-nspr would provide the nss build dependencies for packages like gaim-encryption and evolution.Same goes for the browser part: its possible to start browsers like epiphany or galeon without having mozilla installed: it works completely with the firefox libs, it works with some side effects on the gecko engine used by thunderbird.

The problem with this is that we have a big mess in /opt now. For every small thing I see /opt/somepackage appearing. Wouldnt it be less messy to install all mozilla stuff in /opt/mozilla? Mozilla and Firefox create /opt/mozilla/lib/mozilla-1.7.2 there anyways, so we shouldnt get any conflicts.

    How about:
    /opt/mozilla.org

    --/opt/moziall.org/nss-nspr

DB:2.73:How Can I Import All Of My Emails From My Outlook Web Access Client- Thunderbird Only Has Regular Outlook And Will Not Import Any Of My Outlook Web Access Mail 8k

Outlook Web Access gives you access to your mail on an Exchange Server.

In some cases, the Exchange administrator will provide IMAP access (similar to how Thunderbird accesses Gmail) so that you can read your mail in most mail clients. Try asking about that.

However, if the Exchange administrator only allows access through Exchange ActiveSync or another proprietary protocol, that is not built-in to Thunderbird. There is a non-free add-on which lets you connect to Exchange from Thunderbird. Please see this recent thread for more information: How do I add an exchange account?

I recently downloaded thunderbird and noticed that norton doesn't intergrate with it to scan emails.I'm not familiar with thunderbird, does it scan or check the emails or do i need to stick with outlook express.

    DB:2.73:Mozilla Thunderbird 1c

I have been using Mozilla Firebird and thunderbird for years with great sucess.
I recently discovered that I have not received "new" e-mail on my Dell Dimension 2400 with WinXP and NAV 2005 in about three weeks. I have three seperate mail accounts through earthlink. I used my kid's computer to check to see if they had been receiving their mail (if not- possible earthlink problem) which they had. Two of our three mail accounts are on their computer - all three on the Dell. Received new mail on Kid's computer - received NO new mail on the Dell.

I think, since no new changes have been made to Dell comp, other than NAV 2005 "Live Update," this must be the problem.

Could something have been changed via the live update that no longer allows incoming or outgoing mail?

The other machine has NAV 2005 as well, but has Win2000 OS. Live updates done regularly on Win2000 machine as well.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I found my problem. I was using an Adobe Speedup program that makes the reader load faster by not having it load all the unnecessary plug-ins that no one ever actually uses. Apparently the guy who determined which ones were unnecessary was not a Firefox user. I uninstalled the Speedup thing and Firefox works fine now. The only lingering issue is that Firefox is repeatedly unable to load my my.yahoo.com homepage. If I reload, it pops right up.

DB:2.73:How To Export Mozilla Thunderbird Emails To Windows Outlook x9

I have tons of emails in Mozilla Thunderbird operated in Mac OS X 10.8.4. The "All Mails" reads 29138 emails and I need to transfer all the emails from Mac to Outlook 2010. I looked over the internet and follwing the steps I was able to find the root folder
where Thunderbird saved the emails (~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles). But when I copied the folder to windows, Outlook was not able to recognise this file type.

Please help me migrate these email files from Mac Thunderbird to Outlook 2010.

DB:2.73:How To Export Mozilla Thunderbird Emails To Windows Outlook x9

The easiest way to go would be to move the emails to an IMAP account which offers lots of space such as an Outlook.com or Gmail account. You can then configure that account in Outlook 2010 to collect them again.

You can then choose to continue with that email address and account or configure your own account, move the emails and then remove the IMAP account you used for the transfer.

Note that you can also use an Outlook.com account with you own current address.

If the password was saved in TB, then delete the saved password in your TB options so that you are reprompted for the password on the next send/receive.

I've seen a couple of times where this password in TB gets a little out of whack causing issues. Doing the above fixes the problem for me.

Then the easiest way is to use IMAP mail. Create a free GMail mail account.
Set that up in Eudora or TBird and drag and drop all your mail to the GMail Imap mail folders.
Then set up the SAME IMAP mail account (or POP if you prefer) in Outlook. Download (or synchronise) email and then do the reverse - drag and drop the emails into the default Outlook folders.
