    Dear Comcast:

Why do you disable the USB and SATA ports? This is 2011 and the age of HD. Why do you not allow your customers to hang a 1-2 TB disk from these ports? HD recording eats up 120GB in no time.

Guess I don’t understand why Comcast is scared to enable this option? Surely this can be accomplished with a simple firmware tweak.

Customers pay quite a bit for the option of renting a DVR, why now allow us to truly use it? This is the TB age.

    Thank you for your time.

My Comcast remote suddenly stopped working with my Comcast Motorola DVR Cable Box. (The remote still works with the TV and DVD player.) I called support this morning and they had me try various things and reset my DVR box, but the Comcast remote still wouldn't pair with the Comcast Motorola DVR Cable Box. Support advised me to go to a local service center and pick up a new remote. I have a new remote now, and I still can't pair the remote with the DVR Cable Box. I've tried a reset on the remote. Still no luck. How do I fix? Do I need a new box? I can manually push buttons on the box to use it, but it's a real hassle. Thank you!

DB:3.41:Comcast Remote Suddenly Stopped Working With Comcast Motorola Dvr Cable Box d1

Same here, got a Motorola box and saw problem right away (started on 2/24/10). Called support reset box and remote, no love. Swapped the box, and went through 4 remotes. My unit is a Motorola DCH3416 and remotes are a Custom DVR 3 Device. I have a Insignia TV and none of the codes work with these remotes, tried support again to no avail. I am using the componet and HDMI hookups.

The channel up and down are the best working, about 50% of time. The guide will come up but navigating it is about worthless and VERY painful.

I subscribe to Comcast digital cable with the DVR service. The cable box comes with DVI and firewire for HDTV video and audio output. The DVR manual said the fireware connection can be hooked up to a HDTV or a computer.

I plug the DVR into the firewire port of my iMac. Then, I run iMovie, the import command treated the DVR as if it does not exist. When I plugged in my camcorder, the iMovie let me import from my tape.

Is it a problem on the DVR? Or my iMac is missing a driver for the DVR? Or this combination is not part of the design?

Does anyone have experience importing video from the motorola DVR from Comcast?

    Thanks in advance.

DB:3.41:Can The Imac Interface With The Motorola Dct6412 Dvr? cz

While you are correct that some ports such as USB and Ethernet are not enabled, the Firewire IEEE 1394 ports are active for video output. That is how D-VHS decks are connected to the Motorola 6412 and it is one way HDTV's with Firewire input can connect. However, the Comcast cableguide menus do not appear via a Firewire connection.

Sounds like you are 90% of the way there. It might be easier to capture as you did and resynch the audio than to completely revise your approach. I doubt that iMovie will change things; DVHScap is, as I understand, the same engine that iMovie uses to capture.

The cable card itself would not need upgrading. If you recently have gotten new channels, the cable card should get updated with the new channel map. If it doesn't, call Comcast support for them them to send a signal to the Tivo's cable card.

Now if you do get your new channels, the Tivo's guide data might not get updated with the new channels for a week or two or more, it matters on when Tribune Media Serives who supplies the TivoGuide gets the new channel information to pass down to the Tivo.

This is a customer to customer help site so Comcast support is not monitoring this.

And Comcast does not sell you it's equipment, they rent it only. Costs more in the long run I know but if it dies you are not out any extra money to replace it, just exchange. If you want to purchase your own look into Tivo or Moxi boxes. You will need to rent cablecards from Comcastbut that cost is less than a box.

Can the cloud DVR feature work with more then one DVR box in a home? Or does the cloud DVR only work with one main DVR and the companion boxes that you use with "Anyroom DVR" which I currently do not use?

Also like I said I do not use "Anyroom DVR" however after I had the cloud DVR activated now all 3 of my DVR's with hard drives got a update for "Anyroom DVR". Anyroom DVR should not be working in my case because I have 3 DVR's with hard drives not the companion boxes . So now each DVR is seeing each others recordings and they do not even playback from the other boxes. So I am trying to get comcast to remove the Anyroom DVR feature from my account. I have a ticket number with comcast about this Anyroom DVR issue. I am just wonderoimg how long this going to take? Comcast must have added the Anyroom DVR codes to my account or something.

Also the comcast guy on the phone told me with cloud DVR it's now 1TB of storage instead of the 500GB that you get locally on the hard drive. Is this true? Also he told me Comcast will soon announce a brand new DVR that can record 6 shows at once and watch a 7th and will also be cloud only. It will not have any local hard drive.

I was on the phone with comcast what seemed like 3 hours

To the best of my knowledge, theCLOUD feature only works with one X1 DVR.It appears that atuner in the X1 DVR is used for each of up to five CLOUD connected devices. Ifthe CLOUD featurecould beused with three X1 DVRs, the limit would be fifteen, which it is not.

If the local office isn't too far out of the way, you might want to stop by and ask. Tech visit vs self-install varies by market, and the information that the telephone reps provide about cablecards isn't always up to date. In this post for example, a customer reports that the phone reps told him cablecards had to be installed by a tech, but his local office gave him a card to self-install. YMMV. Good luck!

Comcast needs to drop the programmed recordings into a framed page so customers can scroll down and not have to delete programs to find their last recorded program. Also if your dvr is over 80%, I'm guessing that may cause issues.

If I purchase one of the new Tivo DVR's with a cable card slot, will I be able to get a cable card from Comcast to allow the Tivo to replace my Comcast DVR?

We have a Tivo years ago but I am not up on the current models. Does the Tivo require an internet connection? Do any of the model come with a wireless connection built in?

Is the Tivo subscription married to a particular Tivo box? In otherwords, can we carry to Tivo DVR to other locations (assuming the cable company there can supply a cable card), hook it up and be able to play existing recordings plus make new ones at the other location?

While the Tivo option would be expensive, it might be practical if it could replace three cable company DVR's at the three different locations we spent time at.......

I have a Comcast HD/DVR connected to a Yamaha RX-V463 AV Receiver. I want to copy recordings from the Comcast DVR on to a Toshiba DR430KU DVD-Digital Recorder. I've connected the DR430 DVDR to the RX-V463 AVR as described on pg. 17 of the EN Owner's manual. The problem is that I do not get any audio or video when I play a recording from the Comcast DVR into the Yamaha AVR and try to record on a DVD. Can somebody assist with making sure the connections are wired correctly? Is it even possible to copy video played from the Comcast DVR? Comcast says it's not, but I've done it before with an older Magnavox DVDR.

That may be the case. I also talked to a Sales Person at another Best Buy today and they said that they were told during training that content from a Comcast DVR can't be recorded to DVD. I gues the sales guy that sold me this Toshiba for this purpose must of missed that training : )

I'm going to try bypass the AVR in case that's the issue. Let you know if that works.

Any chance you can recommend a make/model of DVDR that can copy the content? I have 1 year of a show from PBS on my DVR that I would like to put on DVD so I can get my drive space freed-up.

PBS might not be Macrovision-locked - how DVR manufacturers and cable providers handle the "don't copy" flags for stuff that shouldn't have restrictions (PBS is one of these categories) varies greatly though.

It is possible to "clean up" Macrovision-contaminated signals, but it's very difficult to find the hardware to do this nowadays, and it's probably easier to find a different source for that PBS season.

Is there a plan for Comcast to allow any of the non-DVR boxes to view recording on the DVR?

    DB:3.17:Multiple Viewing Of Dvr pa

Sorry, it is impossible for the external drive to connect and read the files from the drive and make them useable to a pc. The same with a Tivo, the drives are "married" to the device and can't be moved to another device and make them useable. These files do have some copy protection flag and formatsto prevent these files to be useable to anything else.

The Studios have alot to do with how much these files are locked down and not able to copy off a drive or from device to device. They make it almost impossible to do anything with these files.

With Tivo's multiple DVR's on the same account can move files from box to box or to a pc, as every device has the same "key" to keep the copy protection sync'd between the devices. Premium's and certain shows always have some copy protection that makes them impossible to move or play on another device. On the Tivo's you can't share these files to another user with their own Tivo, but they can be stored on a server or other storage device and then copied back when they are to be played.

There are other solutions for archiving, justnot with a a Comcast DVR. The intent of a Comcast DVR is casual time-shifting and nothing more. Comcast Motorola equipped area's never were able to add a extra drive on those DVR's, which is over 80% of the Comcast systems.

Verizion FIOS is coming into my neighborhood in the next month. I've had Comcast internet since they came in my neighborhood 4 years ago, and Comcast TV and phone for a little over a year (I had DirecTV). I've been happy with Comcast Internet. The phone service is fine, but I don't really need or use it. The TV channels have been OK, not as good as Direct TV but good enough.

What is really painful is changing to the Comcast DVR after 5+ years with DirecTV TiVo. It is the sole reason I may switch to Verizon FIOS. I would really like to stay with Comcast if they could fix these issues with the DVR:

    Must Have:
The ability to record only new shows and not repeats. The DVR actually supports this but Comcast in my area doesn'tChannel guide that shows only channels that I received. It's not good to have to look through a whole lot of channels that I don't receive when looking through the guide.Keyword Search. I want to be able to record all Maryland college basket games.A larger hard drive then 160 GB. I could live with 320GB but 500 GB would be nice.

    Like to have:
    Multi room DVR.

Comcast told me over a year ago that I would get a new DVR in 6 months, a new interface, and also I would be able to get TiVo. They also said there would be Tru2Way DVRs in 2008. None of these were true.

In the end, I would like to stay with Comcast but I need a DVR that isn't horrible. Is there any chance that Comcast can keep me?

The way it is now you have to go in and manually delete every entry one by one which can take a long time if a few months have gone by without cleaning the history.

I did find if I just unplug the DVR then history is cleared but this adds another issue in that you have to wait for the guideto populate againwhich takes a while.

DB:3.14:Tivo Dvr Versus Comcast Dvr zp

I was the very first person in a 50 mile radius to get the Tivo software on my Comcast/Motorola DVR box about a year ago. In fact it was so new that I had the direct phone number of an engineer to work with as we progressed through the install.

A few things I experienced, before I backed it out (again, however, this was about a year ago):

    - The performance was horrific. The 'Tivo software on Tivo hardware' is the premium experience. Trying to run/port the Tivo software over to the Motorola DVR seemed awkward, and it turned out to be that way. Channel switching took "forever", as did other standard activities (like the deletion of watched content).

    - Although I despise the existing Motorola DVR's interface with great passion, the drag on the performance outweighed the usability of the Tivo software/interface by a long shot.

    - Paying an additional fee, over and above what I was already paying for the standard Motorola DVR fees, seemed excessive. Especially (and to sound like a broken record) since the performance was so bad.

    - None of the really advanced features of (at the time) 'modern' Tivo units seem to be available. No online programming, no unit-to-unit sharing, etc.

    - You couldn't have the Tivo software on just a single unit in your house. It was the "whole house or no house" (as I have multiple DVRs).

I'm a new customer to comcast and I just got my HD DVR receiver yesterday. I can not get my HD DVR to work through my receiver using a hdmi cable. I know the hd dvr works because when I have it connected straight to my tv it works just fine. I also know my receiver works because I have a ps3 and xbox running through it currently. Using the hd dvr through the tv is kind of a pain because my speakers are shot, that was the whole reason in me buying a receiver and speakers in the first place. I sure hope someone out there has had some experiance in this matter and can help me.

No, you only can purchase a retail Tivo or Moxi DVR, which will still need a cable card with a monthly fee charged from Comcast.

And don't purchase any cable boxes or DVR'soff the internet, Comcast will not activate them, as equipment like that are not sold retail, and are usually "hot" or from Canada.

I agree, this is a big shortcoming, particularly given Comcast's small hard drives. I went on a long trip near the end of a season last year and would missed several finales had I not had Verizon (that feature and others went away with Frontier). I was able to log in from the hotel and clean out lower-priority programs.

Try unplugging your box for a minute or so and then plug it back in.

I suggest you do this before you leave the house or before you go to bed. It takes some time for the grid to fully load and for the cable box to fully sync back up again.

No scan, it all operates by your local over the air locations for the Tivo's that will hook to an antenna, and the cable tuners only match the channels to the local cable system, by entering the zip code.

The Tivo would have a selection such as choices for the local cable system (Comcast, Fios or an over builder such as WOW or RCN) or over the air for that specific zip. That's why sometimes Tivo users have to use a close by zip in situations where the channel lineup doesn't quite match.

My Comcast DVR did not adjust to the half hour delay of the airing of House on FOX Monday (due to the baseball running over). I used to have TIVO, and it always caught unscheduled delays and unexpected program changes, and adjusted itself to record my shows in full. Why can't Comcast DVR do the same? With so many last minute program delays, I find this to be an indispensible feature of a DVR. Do I need to go back to TIVO?

I'm very surprised that TiVo would handle these changes. As far as I've heard, TiVo is like most other DVRs, it only updates its guide data once a day. Also, the networks generally don't update the guide services when sports runs over time, so I don't know how TiVo would know to keep recording.

Is there any way I can select which DVR the selection will be sent to?

FWIW, I *can* designate which DVR I want when I use schedule a program to be recorded on a DVR, I'm just not given the option to select which DVR I want to use when I want to send a VOD selection to a DVR.

There just has to be a way to select which DVR the VOD program should be sent to. I've tried the Comcast chat line several times. No help at all - in fact I wonder if these folks have even a vestige of a clue how their systems work.

Same here. Though at least now the problem is intermittent. It does seem pretty clear though that Comcast/Xfinity has very little interest in providing a usefull - and user friendly - interface, for either PC's or for smartphones. You might try 'rebooting' your STB - that is unplug it for a few minutes and see if that helps. I've also had some luck logging off the Xfinity site and logging back in. Lastly, it can take several minutes before the most recent command registers on the STB. Other than that, it's a crapshoot.

    DB:3.09:Router "Times-Out" Surveillance Dvr mx

Hello,Has anyone else had problems with Comcast routers "timing out" surveillance DVR's periodically? I installed a DVR, connected directly to a Comcast business router with port forwarding set properly. We can access the DVR remotely for anywhere from 3 weeks to a few months. But then we just lose remote connectivity until I go back and unplug the DVR, and plug it back in. Then it goes through the same cycle. I changed out the DVR thinking that could be the problem. Each time I check the router settings, it still shows the fort forwarding pass-through is ok. So I am thinking that the Comcast router is something referred to as a "Smart Router" (as per Comcast), in that it monitors the activity of stored IP addresses to reserve a certain amount of "Priority" bandwidth for the most active devices. And, if a device (DVR) has NOT been accessed during a certain period of time, the router then "times out" the IP address of the DVR until it "Reconnects" itself back into the network by being turned off, and then back on again. Does this sound like a correct assumption ? I've actually changed out the DVR 3 times, so I know it can't be that. So I wonder if connecting the DVR to a second router "behind" the Comcast router will resolve the issue. My theory is that the Comcast router will treat the second router as an "always on" device, and the second router will allow the DVR to stay connected. Next question is, can I do this without putting the Comcast router in bridge mode?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, EGR

    DB:3.09:Router "Times-Out" Surveillance Dvr mx

To update my own post, I just learned that the business where the DVR is located experiences frequent power losses or surges. So I think my problem could be "restart" related after these short power outages. They only last from a few seconds, to maybe 30 minutes. But I think that when everything "reboots", maybe the DVR and router are tryiing to restart at the same time. And this may be creating a failure for one device to "recognize" the other (probably the DVR). So, I'm thinking that a UPS with just the Comcast router and the DVR commected will solve the problem. My intension is to try to prevent the DVR and router from having to restart. I think this should help prevent the loss of communication between these two devices. Has anyone else ever dealt with this kind of issue? And is it a plausible solution? Anythoughts would be appreciated.

Apologies. I do see that you also have the correct equipment and are in a PAlocation that supports DVR Manager so I opened a ticket on your account. The right teams will review, investigate and contact you directly to resolve. Thanks for your patience.

DB:3.08:Comcast Policy Of Not Allowing The Purchase Of A Compatable Dvr For Comcast Services fj

I currently am paying $16 a month for the Motorola device that comcast leases from Motorola. A like device (one with the same or better features which are available to those customers that are renting my same Motorola model) sells for about $150.

Comcastregisters the dvrs that are in our homes by Serial / Mac address. Their current service agreement does not mention that customers are not allowed to purchase DVR devices from Motorola or from comcast, just that ofther vendor devices will not work.

Comcast "writes off" their "leasing costs" for these devices from Motorola as business expense and uses this strategy as a way of avoiding State and federal taxes, at our expense.

I urge anyone that resents "renting " in perpetuity, electronic devices that can be purchased for less than an annual rental fee to contact all federal and state agencies that oversee Cable services.

DB:3.08:Currently Own Tivo - Going To Get Direct Tv cs

I now have a TiVo box and Comcast cable. I am considering switching to Direct TV.If I purchase one DirectTV DVR, and the DVR service... can I then cancel my current TiVo service (at $12.95 a month) and still hook up the box to a second DirectTV receiver in my house and continue to use it with only the one service fee? Or is my TiVo useless once I switch over?
