How to turn off password at start-up

    DB:4.17:Start Up Password 79

    Hello Herman Smith,
Thank you for posting the question in Microsoft Community! As I understand, you want to remove the password option on the boot. We are happy to help fixing the issue and guide you in the right direction.

    - Which user account are you using, either Microsoft account or Local account?
If you are using Microsoft account then you will not be able to remove the password option on boot.
If you are using Local account then follow the steps mentioned below to remove the password.
    a. Press “Windows key + W” from your keyboard.
    b. Type “Users” without quotes and hit enter.
    c. Select “change password” option.
    d. Enter the current password and leave the new password text box blank and click next.
I hope this answers your question. If you have any issues with windows, post us back. We would be happy to help you.

Jerry's answer worked perfectly for User and Supervisor password in Bios. However I also had a HDD/SSD password and to change this go into Bios and go to HDD/SSD password change. Put in your current password and when it asks for your new password just leave it blank. Hit enter and when it asks for it again leave it blank and hit enter. When you restart it should not ask for any passwords from bios setup. Hope this helps.

    Thanks to Jerry.

I bought a S500-11C In July. I set it up with a start up password and it seemed ok. Switch on, enter password and away you go.

I wrote the password down "Just in case"

Due to circumstances the laptop was then not used for about two months. It now does not recognise the password and will not start up.

What can I do to rectify this?

    original title: start up
At start up my password does not work i have try many times and made sure everything with cap-locks and number-locks is right and still it wont let me in. Is there anyway to reset my password without the CD?

DB:3.75:At Start Up My Password Does Not Work aa

    Without which CD?
You can restore a password to its previous value like so:
    1. Set your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
    2. Boot the machine with your Windows 7 Repair CD.
    3. Press a key if prompted to boot from the DVD.
    4. Select "Safe Mode Command Prompt" when prompted.
    5. Log on as Administrator if prompted.
    6. Select Repair when prompted.
    7. Select System Restore when prompted.
    8. Set Windows back to a point when you were able to log on.
    9. When finished, remove the CD before rebooting the system.
In Step 2 you could also use your Windows 7 installation DVD. The subsequent steps are similar to the ones above.

    Hi,

    You could try the following.

Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter. If windows will load in this mode, from the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore. Pick a restore point at least 24 hours before the log-on issue and then proceed with the restore process. When complete, Windows will reboot as normal so check if you can now log in correctly.

Another option if the above does not help is as follows.

Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console. Use the arrow keys to select 'Start Using Last Known Good Configuration' and hit enter.

Yes, I'm trying to set a password for my computer to avoid unauthorized access. Thank you for your prompt reply. I went into user account to try and set the password.

If you wish to set up a password for your computer so that
every user is blocked from using the PC then you must do this at the BIOS level. For laptops this is very secure and involves you returning the laptop to the factory in case you forget the password. For desktops it is not secure: Anyone who can open
the desktop can reset the BIOS password.

I have forgotten my Windows XP password to get into my computer. I cannot get into it at all without knowing this password. How can I get back into my computer without the password?

DB:3.38:Forgot Start Up Password For Windows Xp mx

If you have forgotten your password, if you have another user account with administrative privileges you can log into that account and change your original user account's password from the User Accounts applet in Control Panel. If you don't have
another account like this set up or don't have the password to it, you'll need to log into the built-in Administrator account. In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will
get you to the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen, do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up Windows.

If you have XP Pro or Media Center and were using the built-in Administrator account for your regular work and it is therefore the only user account on the system, there are ways to change the password for that account to a blank. Microsoft doesn't permit us
to tell you how in these forums. Their house, their rules. Use Google or ask a local computer tech (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place).

    DB:3.31:Supervisor Password Issue fz

I am not going to be any help then.
I have searched for "supervisor" in Windows Help [including its parental controls section], in Office Help the Windows 7 Help How-to site [including the section on Windows Live Family Safety]. I have not founda single reference to a "supervisor".
You could try looking around the Office forum. At the top of this page, just underneath the MSAnswers logo, click on
    Forums then select Office.
Is it possible that "supervisor" is a term used by a security application that you've installed or that was pre-installed by the PC maker?
Is there any helpful infoin your PC manual or the PC maker's support site?
Does the dialog box have any identifying title or icon/logo that can help to track down the application that is controlling it? I think you need to attach a screenshot - see

Does the TaskBar show anything useful while the dialog is open?
Does Task manager identify an additional application or process that can identify it?
I imagine that the Event Log could help but I do not know enough about it to suggest anything useful [I have never used the Event Log but you'd find some guidance by searching this forum, I think].

    Georgiann,

If you have the acct set as a Microsoft acct...it requires a password. What you could do is simply revert to a local acct and remove the password. Bring up the Charms bar....Settings...Change PC Settings and select Users. Simply click on the Switch to
local account. The click on the button right below Change your password. Simply remove any characters from the password. Reboot. As long as this is the only acct on the system...when you reboot...should go directly to the start screen without requiring

I forgot my password for window 7 for my laptop - a hp pavilion g series - and a rest disc was not created. How can I recover the password or create a new one?

DB:3.29:Forgot My Password For Window 7-Start Up Window 83

Login problems can occur because a password has been forgotten as in this case or because a user profile has become corrupted.
There is no Windows 7 utility for then bypassing the login requirement.
Here are proposed solutions to the problem in rough sequence of total effort necessary.
If the first solution cannot be completed because the appropriate conditions or prerequisites do not apply then review the next solution in the list so on.
1 Click on the text Reset password
underneath the login box insert the Password reset disk that was made when the account was set up.
Then follow the Password reset wizard’s procedure.
2 Get an Admin-level account [or, if on a network, a Domain administrator] to login reset the problem user account’s password.
    See
What are the risks of resetting a password?
3 Use System restore to step back a short period to before any corruption to the system occurred.
See How to use System Restore to log on to Windows 7 or Windows Vista when you lose access to an account
It would then be worth Fixing the corrupted user profile to avoid a reoccurrence of the problem.
4 Insert the System repair disk connect the drive that has the latest System image, reboot into the System repair disk restore the system using the latest System image.
All existing data on the system drive will be lost but data on different partitions of the same physical disk often survives this restoration.
Afterwards, restore missing personal files from a separate backup if such a backup exists.
5 If Windows 7 was preinstalled on the PC then the PC maker will have provided a means of restoring Windows 7.
This may be by means of a Factory Image Restoration procedure described in the PC manual.
6 Use your Windows 7 Installation DVD to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch.
To do this, boot from the Installation DVD then follow the onscreen instructions.
7 Make your own Windows 7 Installation DVD / USB [you will need a 4GB USB stick for this].

7.1 To make an installation DVD/USB, download the correct* ISO from

Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River then transfer it to a DVD or USB using the

    Windows 7 USB-DVD download tool
7.2 * You can only run a successful installation with the edition of Windows [Home Premium so on] that is identified on your Certificate of Authenticity.
If the PC is only specified as being capable of running 32 bit Windows 7 [Windows 7 “x86” but often referred to as x32] then only the 32 bit [x86] ISO file will suit.
7.3 Install the USB-DVD Tool then run it with the ISO file stored anywhere on the system [except the target DVD/USB drive, I discovered, although others say that it can be on the target drive].
7.4 The installation DVD/USB can also be used as a Windows repair disk for repairs for restoring system images.

7.5 To install Windows 7, boot from the installation DVD/USB then follow the onscreen instructions.

DB:3.27:System Start Up Password On Acer V5 But Do Not Remember Ever Setting One Up kd

    Dear Forum

I am being asked for a System Start Up password on my son's ACER V5 but do not remember ever setting one up. Can anyone advise what I need to do.

    Thanks

DB:3.27:System Start Up Password On Acer V5 But Do Not Remember Ever Setting One Up kd

That is unusual. Try shutting the machine off and replugging from the wall for a moment. Disconnect the internet connection.

Restart to see if it continues into Windows.

    If not:

When the machine starts you should see an opportunity to Press F2 (enter bios). Don't save any changes in there until you're familiarized with the Bios. Follow the control directives until you are able to see the biospassword controls settings. Leave Bios without saving changes, if you feel itnecessary to get further assist.

Hope that answer was of help. I'm not an Acer employee.

Just got my new Ipad. while setting it up got the the select a network. Chose our home Verizon net work and put the network name in the password field. Now it won't give me an password error message or let me go back to enter in the correct password. off to a horrible start!

DB:3.27:Ht1695 Netork Start Up Problem km

OK, gave that a try. Did not work. I tried connecting to my wife's broad band card and same thing. It looked like it kept trying to make the connection but could not. I know the home router and her card is working. Is it possible I changed a setting on the Ipod some how? It is brand new and I have had just gotten to the third set up page to select the network. It found our home one. It asked me for the password and I put the network name in the passord box instead of the password. Never got past that. Thanks for your help Demo. Really appreciaate it.

Why would Microsoft Outlook Express start asking for a password when it is started up when it never has before?

    DB:3.27:Password 1d

It's possibly just a temporary server glitch. Usually, if you just click Cancel, and wait for the next mail check, the problem will clear itself.

hi i have a aspire e1-471 just noticed after entering password taking longer to load up start screen, any answer welcome?

    DB:3.27:Slow Start Up zc

What do you have loading when you start your computer?

A number of programs will add themselves to the start up processed when installed. All of these programs are generally not needed on startup. Investigating this may assist in speeding up the start up process.
