    DB:3.41:Systemdrive Free Space Low 3d

    Hi Everybody,

We have a server (dual 2.3GHz PPC 2G RAM) with 3 80G HDs. 2 are RAIDed together for user home directories and the 3rd is the system drive. Nothing is on it but OS X 10.4.11 Server. Yet there is only 7% free space reported in the Finder. The server serves a 25 seat graphic design lab with about 100 users in the WGM. The format is Mac OS X extended (journaled). The disk passes verfication with disk utility, and permissions check out OK too. All visible folders on system drive add up to less than 20G.

    What's going on here?

    TIA,

    David

    DB:3.41:Systemdrive Free Space Low 3d

    Hi Folks,

Thanks again for the assistance. I decided that I screwed up and somehow misguided one of the LaCie backup utilities that came with the NAS drive to copy to the wrong location. Other than my accidental 51G folder the only other objects in /Volumes were aliases to other volumes.

I went ahead and deleted the accidental backup once confirming that it existed elsewhere. The system drive now has plenty of free space!

    Cheers,

    David

DB:3.03:Low Disc Space On Local Drive D dp

    Hi,

Drive D: is probably your Recovery Partition and you should not be using it at all. Let Windows handle
the access to it. If you are backing up to the Recovery Partition you need to use an External USB drive,
    CD, DVD, or other media.

Check with your System Maker's Support and their forums for how it is set up as each maker has their

Based on my experience, you can only ignore the alert (SBS2011 Essentials) or turn offthe notification (SBS2011) since the issue occurs on a recovery drive and we may not able to free the space on it. And this is a global settings, not specific to

as it keeps on running low on space, then what we do the free up the space is to reboot the cas server that runs low on space, and it free the space up after it has been restarted, then the other cas server starts running low on space.

    question in title

DB:2.84:I Am Constantly Geting Warning Of Low Disk Space How Do I Free Up Space On My Hard Drive Without Taking It To A Pc Repair Guy 3f

How large is your drive and how is it partitioned. What are the sizes of those partitions? Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management to get this information.

Select Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents Folder. Open the
file and place the cursor anywhere in the file and select Edit, Select All. Right click, select Copy and paste into a further message here.

Do you use Outlook Express and Internet Explorer? If you use another browser please advise the name.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to empty your Recycle Bin, remove Temporary Internet Files and other selected options. I also recommend you click on the More Options tab, System Restore and remove all but the
latest System Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Using the System restore option is most appropriate when your system is running slow and you need to increase free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors which might be resolved using System Restore to put your system settings back
to before the error first occurred do not use this option.

If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user Log on you need to run Disk CleanUp in each user profile to remove all unwanted files.

A better programme than Disk CleanUp is cCleaner but note that cCleaner will not handle System Restore points. Removing older restore points can be important if you have limited free disk space. cCleaner comes with a Registry tool. Do not use
this tool as like any registry cleaner it can lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

I will be able to make further suggestions upon receipt of the information requested above.

    Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

DB:2.84:Low Drive Space On Prmary Drive C Warning sd

    Hi,

The previous information that I suggested for you would have done the same as what the HP Support Assistant would do with disk clean up.

Since your PC is still covered by warranty, I would suggest that you contact HP Support. You might just need to uninstall the HP Support Assistant and then reinstalled it or install the latest HP Support Assistant version. The issue might be just a simple change in HPSA but I suspect not as that is not the way HPSA is delivered.

HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

CPUs can not be changed on a MBP. You would have to purchase another one with a faster processer. For the purposes that you indicate that you are using your MBP, the current one is quite adequate. My suggestion is to replace the current internal HDD with a 1 TB Seagate hybrid drive. Your boot and shutdown time will decrease dramatically and the current storage issue will be solved. Unfortunately, I cant do anything with system restore because I get a message saying that it is suspended because of lack of disk space.

I cleaned up all big files with videos, pictures, and musicand transferred them to external drive. Nothing in the space availability has changed. It still says that the total size is 37.2 GB and the free space is 38.5 MB. The latter, however, hasfloated - after I cleaned the files which were thousands of MB, the free space came to be 86.1 MB. After I cleaned even more files, it dropped again to 38.5 MB. It seems it doesnt acknowledge at all the cleaning.

What shall I do? Thank you so much in advance for your assistance.

a couple of our 10.3.1 primaries are down to 6GB of space on /, to free up space before upgrading to 11.x is it possible to move /opt/novell/zenworks/install and symlink it to /var/opt/novell/zenworks/install without breaking zenworks? Rebuilding the servers right now is not a good option...

    Thanks.

hmm, our servers were originally built with /var being a large partition so no worries on the content-repo. Problem is the install folder with the agent .msi and .rpm files is quite large and its located on /

Hidden files may be occupying more space than you would expect!
Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced
Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and
folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files

For the last month, my Dell 4700 (80G HD, 1G Ram) has been giving me the following message from time-to-time: "You are running very low on disk space on Local Disk C...". Right now, it says I have 43.8M of free space. Yesterday, it said I had over 19G of free space! Obviously, programs won't run when it says it is low on space, yet other times, everything seems OK. Any suggestions?

    DB:2.79:Low Disk Space j1

Try using Disk Cleanup, click the "More Options" tab and use the options listed, empty the "Recycle Bin", remove the temporary files.

    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108409

Reduce the space System Restore takes up, open "System Properties" click the System Restore Tab and adjust the "Disk Space to Use" settings to 4% - 5%. Then turn off system restore by checking the box, reboot the system, to erase the old system restore files. Uncheck "Turn Off System Restore" box and reboot the system.
Open System Restore and create restore point.

And think about installing a larger hard drive.

    Low disk space
My Disk C if full, but there is 50gig free in Disk D. How can I transfer the free Disk D space to Disk C?

DB:2.79:Low Disk Space On Drive C px

    Hi bullsh,
    • What type of Drive is D:?
    • Is it a Recovery partition?
    A) If D drive is a recovery partition provided by the manufacturer, then it’s not possible.
    B) If both the drives, (i.e. C: and D: drives) are on different hard drives, then also it cannot be done.
Note: If it’s the same hard disk and have created a partition, then it can be tried however not sure if it will be completed.
The best option to use the unused space on your D drive would be to merge the space to C drive.
Step 1:If you don’t have any data or files on D drive, then you can delete the partition and extend the unformatted space with your C drive.
    a. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management.‌
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    b. In the Navigation pane, under Storage, click Disk Management.
    c. Select the partition D and delete the partition if there is not important data on it, you can also backup data on a different drive and delete the partition.
    e. Once you delete the partition, click on C drive and extend the partition.
Refer the following link for more information:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Can-I-repartition-my-hard-disk
Step 2: You can also free up some space in C drive by doing a Disk Clean up.

If you are trying to back up using Windows 7 Backup, and you do NOT have an external backup device, the backup is being sent to the recovery partition.
You really don't want to do this becasue the partition is set to hold the recovery files and enough space to NOT set off the low disk space warning.
Remove any backups you have already deposited on the recovery partition,go out and buy an external hard drive, and then use the software supplied with the backup drive....

Get a program such as TreeSize Free (http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/) to see where files are taking up lots of room. Be aware that deleting files without knowing what you're
doing can cause your system to be unable to restart or may cause instability so be sure you know what you're deleting before you start. There is no way to make a hard drive larger other than to replace it, in which case you'd need to copy all files from your
old drive to your new one.

If the problem is with the Recovery Drive/partition:

Your D: Drive normally is the Recovery Partition(different Manufacturer place it in different Drive letters), that the Manufacturer put there, for your computer to put it back to factory settings in case of System Crash.

Contact your Computer Manufacturer on how to remove anything you have saved to the Recovery Drive, as it is their Recovery Partition, not Microsoft’s.

It is not for you to save anything to; and it is not to compress and/or Index,, Disk Cleanup, use for Backup, Defrag or have System Restore turned on for it.

You are supposed tohave made Recovery disks from D:, in case of Hard Drive failure.

Ask the Manufacturer how to make them, and how to delete/fix what has been done there.

    DB:2.74:Opsdb Free Space Low s3

    Hello,
today OpsMgr alerted me with OpsDB Free Space Low, Severitty CRITICAL, means less than 20 % Free Space.
As you might know Product Knowledge recommends a Free Space of 40 %. The DB-admin asks why ?
He has the opinion that Autoextend is the rigth way to care for DB Free Space, extent's size would be 500 MB.
Now my question: Where are the reasons for the recommendations of 40% DB Free Space ?
The only things I found here in the blogs is the risk of severe DB or disk fragementation. Well, with an extent of 500 Mb I donot see any reason for severe fragmentation.
We are really interested in a technically good argument.
    regards sebastian

    DB:2.74:Opsdb Free Space Low s3

Best practices for DB deployment for SCOM, isto create the DB to the size (MAX)needed by the application. There is an OpsMgrsizing tool that can help with the calculations on figuring out the max size for the DB.so if I size
out an implementation at lets say 10 gigs, I usually give 5 extra gigs to make sure there is overhead for re-indexing that occurs every night. Even though the db will not get up to 10 gigs when first deployed, who cares? Disk space is not that expensive, and
why add this to the list of things that need to be checked on a daily basis to ensure auto grow or auto fragment occurs?
SO reasons for 40% free space? Room for small alert/event storms so it will not fill up the db. Also room for nightly re-index jobs that are a part of normal maintenance. A full OpsMgr DB is not a good thing ever.
Also Auto Grow will slow down normal DB performance when grows out the file. Why would you want to slow down an Application that is very I/O driven by making it increase the size of the DB?

    thanks
    bobby

You have two ways of doing this:
1- Use cloning software and clone the present C:\drive to the 114GB drive. To do this you will have to move your files off the 114GB drive. the cloning process will destroy all the data on the target drive. When done remove the present C:\ drive and place
the cloned drive in its place. Do not put the old C drive in the computer until you successfully boot the computer with the cloned drive, after you successfully boot the clone you can then place the old C drive back in the computer and use
it as a storage drive. If things go wrong and if the clone fails to start you still have the old C drive that you can place back in the computer and use until you get things right with the clone. The manufacturer of the 114GB drive might have free cloning
software for you to use, verify on their web site.
2- Using a second Windows installation or booting the computer with a live CD or PE disk such as UBCD4Win you can copy the current C drive with Xcopy or Robocopy to the 114GB drive and make it bootable then replace the present C drive as explained above.

    Hi Friends,

What are the problems you will face if -

You have a low disk space on a SharePoint 2010 Production farm servers,
say 1-2 gb free space on c drive of each of the sharepoint servers in a 3 tier farm architecture.

    DB:2.73:Sharepoint 2010 - Free Disc Space On C Drive m3

    Hi,

You need to free some disk space on C: drive. You can move your index files to D: drive. You can also move all log files to D: drive. Windows require at least 10% free disk space to be able to operate correctly.

Please browse to the LOGS directory (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS), check it's size: Created a folder called SP-ULS Logs on the D:\ drive, then go to Central Administration|
Diagnostic Logging and changed the path to the new folder.

1 GB. Cannot find any docs or pictures now. What do I delete to free up space on hard drive? What our my options?

    Cool grandpa

    DB:2.73:Low Disk Space ms

Welcome to Microsoft Answers! Here are some tips to free some space from your hard drive:

Go to StartAll ProgramsAccessoriesSystem Toolsclick Disk Cleanup. Then, select the stuff you want to clean out and click OK.
Also using Disk Cleanup, click "More Options". Then, while at the "System Restore" section, press "Clean Up". This will take a couple of seconds, but you can save a lot of space.
Consider Googling or Binging "ccleaner" and using it to also free up space on your hard drive.

And that's about it. Be sure to also defragment your drive (StartAll ProgramsAccessoriesSystem Toolsclick "Disk Defragmenter") if you haven't done it in a while.

    DB:2.73:Low Disk Space jj

    Dear friend..

I am listing out some possibilities below. Have a look in to that.
1)The automatic back up process which is running in the background will consume space gradually. Please check whether the maintenance backup process is running or not. If it is running, you may delete the old back up files or disable the automatic backup
    .
    2) some virus will make small chunks of data like a chain process. Though this is a slow process,it is gradually making unnecessary files and consumes the disk space. Use a quality antivirus and perform a thorough scan.
    3) hibernation/pagefile configuration will show the change in free disk space. But it will not eat a lot of diskspace. Review those settings.

clean all your temp folders and files. You may use ccleaner or similar software for this purpose.

We upgraded from Windows Server OS MP v6.0.6958.0 to v6.0.6989.0 in our SCOM 2007 SP1 environment. We left the Logical Disk Free Space (%) Low and Logical Disk Free Space (MB) Lowmonitors disabled and continued to use
the previous Logical Disk Space Free monitor. After about a month we realized that we were not getting any Logical Disk Free Space Alerts, even though logical disks were filling up past the threshold points, so we disabled the singular Logical
Disk Space Free monitor, and enabled just the Logical Disk Free Space (MB) Low monitor.
We changed both the System Disk and Non-System Disk thresholds to reallyhigh levels (these levels were higher than some of the disksactual sizes), ie. C:\ is 50GB total, with 10GB free, and the thresholds were set to Error-40GB, Warning-45GBin
order to test SCOM Alerts, but still, no Alerts were being produced.
Prior to upgrading to v6.0.6989.0 of the MP, we were getting Logical Disk Free space alerts just fine.
Incidentally, performance collections for logical disk free space (mb) low (Disk Capacity) are working just fine and actually showing correct data/disk capacity levels.
Anyone else having this problem, or know how to resolve it? We need Logical Disk Free Space low Alerts desperately.

    Hi,
Under NO circumstances should you delete anything from the Recovery partition.

Your RecoveryPartitionwas imaged on your Hard Drive during the Manufacture of your Computer by the Manufacturerforthese reasons.

1.To reinstall Vista from in case of a System crash, by pressing particular Key or Keys at Boot.
F10 orF11 or Alt + F10 are a couple of sequences different Manufacturers use.
You will have to ask your manufacturer for the correct sequence.

    2. To make Recovery Disks from in case your Hard Drive fails, so that you can then reinstall the Operating System on toa new Hard Drive.
Also ask them how tomake the Disks.

Your D: Recovery Drive is not to be used for backups, defragged, etc.
Backups should be kept on an External Hard Drive.

Tofix any problems that have occurred with the D: Recovery Partition, you will have to contact your Computer Manufacturer to remove whatever has been added to it.

    Cheers.

While you are in discussion with the Manufacturer and after they fix your problem, ask them how to make Recovery Disk from that Recovery Partiton, D:.
Besides reinstalling the Operating System from the Recovery Partition in case of System crash, it is there to make Recovery Disk from in case of Hard Drive failure to be able to reinstall your Operating System.
If you make your own Recovery Disks, that will save you a few dollars.

    Hi Robin,

The only folder on my D drive is Norton Backups. The drive that I went to to do my Factory Image reinstall was E.. dunno why.. thats just the way it came. Even the Dell techie who was trying to help me do my install thought it was D..

The Norton Backups folder contains the restore point and File and Folder Backup Norton made before I did my Factory Image reinstall. I think when I reinstalled, the C Drive went back to Factory Image, but the D Drive didnt. The backups are there and taking up space, but because the Norton programme is on my C drive, it cant see them so they dont come up as restore points to delete through Norton.

What I did today was rename the Norton Backups folder to Norton Backups Old and deleted a few of files that were modified before my Install to make room and then tried to do a backup through Norton. This worked. Norton created a new Norton Backups folder and backed up there.

I have a RAID configuration and all my important stuff is backed up on an external drive, plus I have plenty of restore points I created through Windows.. so I just want one backup through Norton to be on the safe side.. the partition is too small anyway..

    thanks

How do I free up diskspace on drive C

    DB:2.69:Low Disk Space mk

Following are the common necessary steps to follow when there is low disk space :-

    1) Unistall any unnecessary game or software or program. (Actually start with this step)

    2) Disk Cleanup. Go to the target drive (I am assuming its C, right click - Disk Cleanup

    3) Go to Start - Run - type "%temp%" . Delete all files in this folder.

    4) Go to C:\Windows\Temp . Delete all files in this folder too.

    5) Defragment your disk. Simply put, it means rearranging your disk to fit data more effectively. You will need a good software for it. I suggest Auslogics Disk Defragmenter. Its free. Another one is Diskeeper. You will get a 30 day trial. But it will do the trick. Hope I helped.

    Definitely.

Normally If you run a daily DB backup, it will keep the space the DB and

However, with only 5GB of Space, those procedures will not have space to

    There are many things...

Install apps (those that have that config option) in the bulk storage ( e: usually) rather than c:

Clean up the email storage (Sent folder etc)

    Clean up Messages

Put in a microSD card and put anything on that that can be configured to use it; Gallery is the biggest thing by far (pictures and movies).

The internet is full of people desperately trying to increase their c: space There are various bugs in Belle which can cause email attachments to be orphaned in c: - see my older postings for the details. In some cases the only way to reclaim this space is to jailbreak the phone and then use various tools to clean up. It was a big mistake by Nokia to put emails on c: and make in non configurable.

When I get near 200 MB, it says that I do not have enough free space and need to delete apps in order to receive text messages even though I am only using less than half of the storage space. Why does this continue to be a problem? Its becoming an inconvenience...

    DB:2.68:Low Storage Space Notification... 7z

I've gotten the low storage space icon a couple of times. My phone still.worked so I.didn't do anything. The 3rd time (last week), I got the low storage AND memory full icons. Now, my phone isn't working right. The more apps, pics, videos, ect, I deleted, the less memory my phone said it had. I got a level 2 tech on the phone that put it to me straight. There is a software problem that makes the phone forget how much memory it has you have to do a factory reset to fix it. I didn't want to do it but I had no choice. Now my phone works as new. Contacts, calendar were re synced without a problem. I just had to download the apps and reset some settings. We shouldn't have to go through all this but when your phone acts up, just do it and get it over with it. It's the only way and I've tried everything. Good luck all.

you may have Autoprotect enabled ?

if the GUI does not show them you could use vmware-vdiskmanager to consolidate the snapshots.

That only works with recent versions ... not sure if your version has the -r option that can handle partial chains ?

DB:2.66:Low On Disc Space In Windows Xp Computer. zf

Original Title: Clean C drive, compress files.
I am low on Disc space and need to defragment. When I clean disc - the same 2,---,--- is still there. No matter what I do, I still only have 7.1% free space on my C drive. How can I gain more space?

DB:2.66:Low On Disc Space In Windows Xp Computer. zf

There are a number of things you can do to -- temporarily -- free up disk space. The only real solution, however, is to get a larger internal hard drive. You can move data to an external drive, but if it is data that you use frequently, the slower
access times may annoy you. Therefore, I don't recommend that you
move your My Documents folder in its entirety to an external drive, although you certainly could do that by following the linked instructions.

You can run Disk Cleanup (Start Run cleanmgr OK)You can reduce the size allocated to System Restore to about 1 GB (right-click My Computer Properties System Restore Settings)You can turn off Hibernation (if you don't use it) (right-click empty spot on desktop Properties Screen Saver Power Hibernate)You can disable Disk Indexing, which will also speed up your computer a bit (http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp)You can reduce the size of your Internet browser cache (varies depending on which browser you use)You can remove most of the $NTUninstallKBxxxxxx$ folders following the directions here:
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Hotfix_backup.htm
(read the caveats in the grey box first)You can uninstall applications that you don't use any more.

But none of the above will really gain you significant amounts of space for very long. The only long term solution is a bigger hard drive.

In the meantime, download and run
JDiskReport, which will graphically show you what files are taking up the most space and thus suggest what files you should delete or move to an external drive (if you have one). If you want to move an application, you'll have to uninstall it and then
reinstall it specifying your external drive as the install location. You can't simply move the files.

You'll want at least 10 GB free before doing anything. As is, you can look at your recovery partition to see exactly how much you'll need, but Windows will always block off extra for some reason.

DB:2.65:Trying To Free Up Space On My D Drive ap

If D: is your Recovery drive and between 5GBs - 15Gbs, you are NOT supposed to touch it.
You do not give much information to work with.

Backups are supposed to be saved to external Drives or DVDs.

Your D: Drive normally is the Recovery Partition, that the Manufacturer put there, for your computer to put it back to factory settings in case of System Crash.

You are supposed tomake Recovery disks from D:, if possible, in case of Hard Drive failure.

Ask the Manufacturer if you can make them, and how to delete/fix what has been done there.

DB:2.65:Emptying Trash Not Freeing Up Space f8

AHA! Go to System PreferencesSecurityFileVault and you can read about it.

This may be something that got turned on at some point. It is a way of encrypting your home folder using AES-128 encryption so that no one can access it without the password.

Generally, unless there is some specific reason to use File Vault, it is better to just leave it turned off. If you have something particularly sensitive to protect, an encrypted disk image will likely be a better choice.

    Good luck!
