DB:4.14:Create A New Virtual Machine. fz

I am using the v-cloud Api version 1.5 to create a new virtual machine,I am unable to crate the new virtual machine,Iam able to create clone of a existing virtual machine.

I am using the below requset xml to create a new VM.

    ?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?

DB:4.14:Create A New Virtual Machine. fz

There is a bit weird way to create VMs using vCloud APIs:

    Preparation

    1. Create a diskless VM inside a vApp

    2. Turn vApp into template

    3. Instantiate the template in to new vApp with single VM and no disks. OR use recompose to add new VM to existing vApp Or compose to add the VM into new vApp (I am not sure if you can add same VM many times in one call)

    4. Add disks and update HW settings to suit your need.

If you want to strat off wihtout the preparation

    1. Download the vApp OVF file using API

    2. Check the OVf for any vmdl references there should be none.

    3. Instead of steps #1 and #2 above upload the OVF file as template.

Protect Virtual Machine Unable to create placeholder virtual machine at the recovery site: Recovery virtual machine could not be created: The

    name ' already exists.

This is VShere 4.1 replicating with Recover Point Splitter 3.2

    Any enlightenment is appreciated.

DB:3.75:Unable To Create Placeholder Virtual Machine Already Exists s8

Thanks for the help here is what EMC has determined

    Root Cause:

    -

During a discover of the RecoverPoint process it fails due to loss or missing durable name for these LUNS. Durable name is an object in the API from which RecoverPoint code is taking the volume's name. This can happen if at least one of the LUNs on that datastore is not protected by RecoverPoint

    Work around:

    -

    1. Identify the RPA that owns site control, in one of the following ways:

o Login to the GUI at the Site with issues, the Site control RPA is shown at the bottom right of the GUI

o Login as boxmgmt user to the Site IP (Floating IP), the prompt will show the box that owns Site Control.

o As the SE user, run get_box_states and check for 'Running SC: YES' --gt; This password can be executed by only EMC field/support engineer.

    2. Reboot the RPA that owns site control.

Note! Consistency Groups can be moved the alternate RPA so as not to affect replication and moved back after reboot.

Updated: The reboot does not fix this issue on 3.2 p3 upgrade is required

    Permanent Fix:

    -

Kindly upgrade your RP version to 3.3 P2 (latest version). In RecoverPoint 3.3, the ability to filter VM's exists allows user to monitor desired replicated VM's

How you create virtual machine? Are not you trying to use physical disk you have in the box? You can use virtual disks only, see release notes, if you attempt to create raw disk as part of VM creation, creator in beta 1 crashes...

    Hi!

I need to add a few GB to a virtual disk. First of all vmware-vdiskmanager expects a whole lot of libs in /usr/local/bin/libdir/lib but ok. Those libs are actually located in /usr/local/lib/vmware/lib so i fixed taht inital problem with:

    mkdir /usr/local/bin/libdir

    ln -s /usr/local/lib/vmware/lib /usr/local/bin/libdir/lib

After that I was able to run

Hi I have that problem where I am unable to resume a suspended virtual machine.

    I get the error message

"Unable to open file... One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or by a snapshot"

    This is what I did.

I made a copy of an entire virtual machine folder and deleted a few old snapshots in the copied one. The latest suspended snapshot couldn't open (still on copied over one), I was getting the error "Unable to open file... One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or by a snapshot"

I opened up the snapshot before that, and it worked fine. When it asked for me if I wanted to make a new key, I chose "Create" as usual. However after doing some important stuff, I suspended the virtual machine thinking it was going to be fine. Upon trying to resume the virtual machine, same error again!

I have tried resetting my main machine and trying again, but I still get the error.

    Hi there,
I would like to know if you can find other options except Create virtual machine in Virtual Machines folder. If so, do you have this issue ever since installing Windows Virtual PC?
Based on my search, this issue may cause by corrupted settings and you can use the following methods as a fix:
When in the Virtual Machines folder, press Alt to open the menu. Select Tools and then Folder options. On the dialog that is opened click Restore Defaults. Once you have done this, log out and log back in to see if the Create Virtual Machine option is now present.
If this doesnt work try create a registry file which will deletes any custom settings for your folder views and sets things back to their clean state. =================================1. Please open Notepad.2. Please copy and paste the following content into Notepad:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]3. Please save the file as fix.reg.4. Double click the file fix.reg to import the registry keys.
    5. Please restart the computer and check the issue again.
If neither of these options works you can manually start the new virtual machine wizard by going to your system drive and running: \Windows\System32\VPCWizard.exe

Originally, before setting the machine back to factory settings, I had got past this point creating a WindowsXP VM but was unable to edit the default VM
so decided to go back to factory settings. Whilst applying 8.1 updates I found I had now got 8.1 Update 1 - then moving on to setting up VM I got the above error.

Having almost zero Windows experience beyond XP some advice would be greatly appreciated.
I see two options, one to go back to a USB system image 8.1 upgrade 1 or
revert to 8.1 recovery factory image

DB:3.37:8.1 Update 1 - Cant Set Up A Default Virtual Machine. xc

    Hi Elton Ji,
Now back from a 10 day break. Before going away I re-ran factory reset, yet again, then set-up a Hyper-V default VM. Upon my return I edited the default VM by adding legacy network adapter, set up a virtual switch, added a DVD drive and set BIOS to boot
from CD. I got the WinXP CD to start but I was unable to select an option displayed on the Welcome screen on the XP VM screen so I turned off the XP VM.
Going back to 8.1Pro, which was still as supplied on the system having avoided installing any updates because of my concerns about any potential sequencing problems, I found I couldn't connect to the Internet. Yet the WiFi connections were correct and the
    router connection stated Connected. I couldn't find any reason why the system couldn't connect . . . . . .

So, currently, I've again gone back to factory settings, set Check for updates choose whether to download and install. Have run System Firmware Update - 11/03/2014 and Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602. The Router connection
being reset - I have a big list of Important Win8.1 and security updates that, presumably, I can now check against the list you referred to. It also has 9
    Recommended other updates.
Now I think I should take a USB system image and read any recommendations you may have before trying to set up Hyper-V VM that I need to have for portable use on my Surface. I need WinXP, or MSDOS, to run 16bit DataEase relational databases and merely
have 8.1 Pro on the device to enable me to gain an understanding of that OS in due course.

I created a VM using the Hyper-V manager. VMM saw this as an Unsupported VM Configuration. When I tried to remove the machine using VMM, I received the following error: Error 809 - VMM cannot remove the virtual machine because it is not turned off.

DB:3.37:Error 809 - Vmm Cannot Remove The Virtual Machine Because It Is Not Turned Off. zm

Have you attempted removing the Host from SCVMM and then addind it back in?Has the Host been rebooted?(or the VMM Agent restarted on the Host?)It sounds like you had a VM state change that happened outside of VMM and VMM did not get an update regarding the VM prior to the VM being deleted from the Host (or Host communication is not working properly all together). Therefore VMM has 'locked' the VM status into a logic loop and won't allow you to remove it.The other option is (if you are comfortable with messing around in SQL tables) to manually remove the VM from the SCVMM SQL database. This is not a painful act, nor it is wrought with danger as long as you pay attention to what you are doing and only remove the problem VM and its linked dependencies.(I say this after being chasticized for stating in a previous thread that I cleaned up my database myself, by hand...like I said, if you are comfortable then it isn't rocket science).

DB:3.37:Unable To Create A Vrtual Machine pc

I am guessing something changed under the covers that does not allow my old network to work any longer. I have seen this before.
I created a new Virtual Network and notice that a Subnet is now created by default.
Using the new network, I was able to add new VM’s. Although, it seems to be running really slow and takes about 10 minutes to create a new VM.
Using the old network, I can’t create VM’s through the portal or via the REST API.
    Hope this helps.

I have attempted to create a virtual machine on the current SSD and also an external drive. The same error appears.
I have also attempted to create a virtual hard disk via Hyper-v with a Base vhdx, still the same error occurs. I've tested the base image on other laptops of the same model and windows 8.1 without issue.
Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

DB:3.29:Cannot Create A Virtual Machine Inside A Virtual Network zp

    Hi Koby Azr;
Thank you for your post. Apologies for the issue.
A custom virtual machine refers to a virtual machine you create using the
From Gallery option because it gives you more configuration choices than the
    Quick Create option. These include:

More image choices for creating the virtual machine (VM)Connecting the VM to a virtual networkInstalling the VM Agent and extensions, such as for antimalware Adding the VM to an existing cloud service Adding the VM to an availability set
Important: If you want your virtual machine to use a virtual network so you can connect to it directly by hostname or set up cross-premises connections, make sure you specify the virtual network when you create the virtual machine. A virtual
machine can be configured to join a virtual network only when you create the virtual machine. For details on virtual networks, see
    Azure Virtual Network Overview.

Sign in to the Azure Management Portal. Check out the
Free Trial offer if you don't have a subscription yet.

On the command bar at the bottom of the window, click New.

Under Compute, click Virtual Machine, and then click
    From Gallery.

The first screen lets you Choose an Image for your virtual machine from one of the lists in the Image Gallery. (The available images may differ depending on the subscription you're using.) Click the arrow to continue.

The second screen lets you pick a computer name, size, and administrative user name and password. If you just want to try out Azure Virtual Machines, fill in the fields as shown in the image below. Otherwise, chose the tier and size required to run your
app or workload. Here are some details to help you fill this out:

New User Name refers to the administrative account that you use to manage the server. Create a unique password for this account and make sure to remember it.
You'll need the user name and password to log on to the virtual machine.
A virtual machine's size affects the cost of using it, as well as configuration options such as the number of data disks you can attach. For details, see
Virtual Machine and Cloud Service Sizes for Azure.

The third screen lets you configure resources for networking, storage, and availability. Here are some details to help you fill this out:

The Cloud Service DNS Name is the global DNS name that becomes part of the URI that's used to contact the virtual machine. You'll need to come up with your own cloud service name because it must be unique in Azure. Cloud services are important
    for scenarios using
multiple virtual machines. For Region/Affinity Group/Virtual Network, use a region that's appropriate to your location. You can also choose to specify a virtual network instead.

    NOTE:
If you want a virtual machine to use a virtual network, you must specify the virtual network when you create the virtual machine. You can't join the virtual machine to a virtual network after you create the VM. For more information, see
Azure Virtual Network Overview. - For details about configuring endpoints, see

How to Set Up Endpoints to a Virtual Machine.

All VC assets are owned by root; however, VC itself does not run any process/task as the root user. The reason you have to provide the root password when you register the host into VC is that it is needed to enable "sudo" permissions for the vpxuser account.

as for my main question, now that i have created the virtual machine, can i copy it and paste it using hyper-v manager console so that i have multiple virtual machines. i dont wish to create a new virtual machine for each one and spend more than half an hour installing the same OS for each virtual machine.

i need them all to be Windows server 2008, whats the fastest way to copy the virtual machines ?

DB:3.28:Copying Virtual Machine From Inside Hyper-V Manager k7

I use this technique also in Virtual PC on my laptop, but for the new VM I use a differencing disk. The base image is placed in another directory (VHD is set to read only) and on top of that I create a diff disk. This disk will hold all changes when booting
    the new VM.
This way you can have several VM's based on the same base image, but without the disk space overhead. It saves tons of Gigs which can be very valuable on your laptop.
Works with Hyper-V as well, but one can argue the added value in a production environment.
    Cheers

With VIX, I think you've got the right API to work with workstation. You are right there is no method to create a virtual machine. But there is method VixHost_Register() for you to add a virtual machine. I think you can do some work like copying a existing virtual machine and modify configuration prior to calling the method. No exactly what you need, but with some tweak I think you can get what you want.

you would not be able to do this from VMM. However, you can do this manually in an unsupported way. (You would have to post in the Hyper-V forum and see if this is supported or not though).

Since the VHD format has not changed since Virtual Server, you can simply uninstall the integration components from your VM and move the VHD over. However, if the VM was a multiprocessor VM or a 64bit VM, then that would not work since the OS drivers and kernel components would not match. There are other reasons this might not work, but it is worth a try if you have a compelling scenario for needing this.

Make sure you clone your VM before you proceed just in case something goes wrong.

Two days ago, after a reboot, I opened VMware Workstation, and there were no virtual machines listed. There used to be two virtual machine listed.

Click on File, Open, and then select the virtual machine.

The virtual machine does not open, and there are not errors. It just does not do anything.

When I try to close the application, it does not do anything either. I have tried file and exit, and close.

I am able to create a new virtual machine; but it does not open the new virtual machine either.

So, all that VMM should be doing for you is creating a new VM, creating a 40 GB disk, copying out the ISO, attaching the ISO and booting the VM.The rest of the installation is up to you to open the console and complete.right click the error and resolve the failure.Oh... Are you attempting to run the ISO from the Library?(Do not select the use ISO from Library option).  Allo a copy of hte ISO to be deployed with the VM.You also need to open up a Hyper-V Management Console and tell us what happens on the Hyper-V host (if anything).  You might have to browse the file system and clean up previously failed attempts. Also, unless you are using SCVMM R2 and Hyper-V R2 (since you are creating a Highly Available VM) you have to adhear to the one vm per cluster LUN rule.Only with SCVMM R2 and Hyper-V R2 are you allowed to have more than one VMs on a single clustered LUN.Also, when you select the Job view in SCVMM and select the failed step - what do you see in the details?Sometimes this can be useful, other times not so much.Brian Ehlert

If you had ghost you could do the p2v first to an unaligned machine, then create a new aligned hard disk, hook it to that machine, then use a ghost boot or similar to clone to the new partition (not the whole disk as that would break your alignment/offset) which should work.

Personally - I would't mess with the reserves settings. And if I did, I would only tweak the particular VM that actually needed additional resources. The pitfall that you can fall into is that the environment is over-tweaked and the impact ends up being negative on the overall environment in the end.  As the impacts of tweaking might work one way on host A but on Host B the settings will work out totally differently, due to a different mix of VMs and thus combination of VM tweaks.By setting these you are attempting to 'guarantee' resources - and thus you are running into a situation where your tweaks, combined with the needs of the host for additional resources to handle the overhead of this additional VM are violating your established rules.Frankly, the system can self manage just fine - it is designed to do that.  All hypervisors are.  By default all machines share in the pool of resources and all get their equal share of the resources.  If a particular VM needs more, then increase its settings, and leave the rest alone.  IF a particular VM needs far less, then reduce its resources but leave the rest alone. And yes, the behavior you are seeing is indeed strange - but then without undoing and reverse engineering all of the tweaks to all of the VMs, there is no way to truely understand why you are seeing the results that you are.

    Hello Robert,
thanks for the link, but it does not solve my problem. I can't deploy a Virtual machinein West Europe, even if I create a new storage account.
The problem is that I have definedan affinity group including a storage account, a virtual network and a vpn connection. Since my virtual machine hosts an active directoryI need avpn connection to that machine. Deploying the machine to
North Europe and not having a connection to my virtual network is not anoption for me.
    Do you have another idea?

I used an image from a Backup Exec System Recovery snapshot to restore to the virtual drive.

As per our requirement, we need to display a customized User interface when user tries to create a new virtual machine request.

Ex. When user click on New machine request, we need to show our own UI page with some details about virtual machine, then only it will create a new virtual machine request.

Anyone have some suggestion or Idea about implementation of this features? or is possible to attach a new UI while creating virtual machine?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between a virtual machine and a virtual hard drive. For instance, if I create a new virtual machine and attach a virtual hard drive, in order to restore the virtual machine for disaster recovery do I need to backup both the virtual machine and the virtual hard drive? I am assuming that the answer is yes, but I am curious as to the terminology involved. Thank you for your time.

You state in your subject title that the system outputs the error message as "Unable to create Java Virtual Machine".

Most of the time, such errors are the result of installing the JVM on the wrong hardware platform or unsupported OSes.

    Hi

I am using VMware Workstation 10 and there seems to be a huge problem here. I cannot create a Virtual Machine. After I finish the 'create a new virtual machine' wizard, it seems to be doing nothing. I even tried opening the .vmx file through the Documents folder itself. No matter what I do, the Virtual machine doesn't open. I think its not being created in the first place.

I am following all the normal steps and have hardware virtualization enabled in the BIOS. Oh, and I checked to see if Virtual Box is running, and it's running fine. The problem seems to be only in VMware Workstation. Can anyone please help me out on this? I have posted screenshot images of what the folders looks like after the wizard completion.

I solved it. Turns out I was using an incompatible software - Windows7FirewallControl by Sphinx-Soft. It was creating troubles for VMWare even after allowing it through the firewall.

    Hi,

DB:3.13:Unable To Create Template From Existing Virtual Machine. jc

Blanking the admin password partly depends on your guest operating system.  this would be your step 2, prior to running sysprep. One way is to open user account management, selelct the administrator, right clisk and select set password.  Then be sure to leave the password blank and click okay.Server 2008 does not allow that, so you have to modify the local security policy (and this is all thrown awry if your VM is domain joined as the domain policy generally enforces password complexity and prevents access to the local security policy).I have also explained this all here:http://itproctology.blogspot.com/2008/07/unable-to-template-server-2008-virtual.html
