I've compile my application dll with PGO Phase I. The dll is much larger and optimizations are disabled. When running the executable that calls this dll, NO data is generated (.dyn or .dpi, or anything). Am using Intel compiler 10.1.022
    in Visual Studio 2008. Thanks.

Well, there's several possibilities. In theory it should work. Does the program exit in a well behaved way? Normally the .dyn files are written at exit. I assume you've searched thoroughly for any .dyn files? Any chance you could post a test case? If you don't want to post a test case here, than I would recommend that you submit it to premier.intel.com.

It might, if the number of "basic blocks" of code paths changed. If it didn't, the results could mislead the compiler into making optimization choices it shouldn't.

    Hi to all,
I'm tryng to maximize the performances of a Fortran application. I'm trying to use PGO with IPO, but I'm receiving a lot of warnings like this:

    warning #11503: Total routines 12, routines w/o profile info: 2 ...

I think that PGO hasn't profile informations for some routines, but I haven't found several info in Intel Compiler Help.
I would know some issues to eliminate this warnings, because at the moment the application doesn't go faster after PGO and IPO optimizations and I think that these warnings would be a possible cause.

    DB:2.93:Pgo And Warning # 11503 3k

Do you have an example of Fortran application which runs faster after IPO/PGO optimizations?
I ask for this because I'm working on my thesis and I think that it would be usefull to write an example where PGO/IPO optimizations work well.
    Thanks in advance!

DB:2.93:Pgo For C++ No Longer Works For Me In Vs2013 jj

I've been developing a largish C application in Visual Studio 2012.
My project has around 300 typical c files and compiles to a 3Mb executable. I've been using VS2012's profile guided optimization for benchmarking and it will be critical for the release.
Using VS2012, after instrumenting and training, the optimization step takes about 5 minutes. It never has any problems and always builds a nice fast executable for both x86 and x64.
This week i installed Visual Studio 2013 with update 2. I read that it could analyze the performance of a PGO executable and i was very keen to try it out.
Using VS2013 for x86, the optimization step took 2 hours and ran out of heap on pass 2. Compiling for x64 to overcome the 3Gb limit, again it took 2 hours then stopped with an internal compiler error.
My project options are mostly just default options, with no exception handling. Somehow simplifying the application just for the PGO compiler is not really a solution.

Can anyone suggest why PGO for VS2013 no longer works? Has anyone else experienced this?

Why would it take 5 minutes on VS2012 and 2 hours on VS2013?
I'm hoping there is a simple compiler option that will fix it. Otherwise i'll just have to continue using VS2012 for the next few years.

DB:2.93:Pgo For C++ No Longer Works For Me In Vs2013 jj

Thanks for replying. I followed your advice.
I installed Visual Studio 2013 without Update 2 on a fresh computer. The optimization step took 45 seconds and compiled without any problems.
I then installed Update 2. The optimization step now failed again after 2 hours.
It appears that PGO on Update 2 has a bug.
    I submitted a bug report .. https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/877623/pgo-for-c-no-longer-works-for-me-in-vs2013-update-2

    Hello everybody,

I am new to managing QlikView and I am working on an environment that has some sporadic issues. I feel like I am hitting a wall in terms of new ideas to try, so I'm posting this in hopes that somebody might have a few suggestions.

First, a bit of info on our architecture. We run a clustered environment with the following roles, all running QV 11.20 SR 6 on Windows Server 2012:

    Server 1: Publisher QMC

Server 2: QVS, DSC: Access Point

    Server 3: QVS

File Server Cluster (2 servers): Presents SAN CIFS share, which is our document root. Path to root is defined as \\ipaddress\qvprd.

SAN: Hosts qvprd share as well as other non-QlikView shares.

Our systems appear to be over-sized for current performance needs, so I wouldn't think this is a resource issue. All have 512 GB RAM and 4x 6-core processors at 2.89GHz (24 cores total). I watch these systems closely and the QVS servers never break a sweat and almost always are below 60% memory allocation. The Publisher server is even lower, with heavy CPU utilization only during our busy reload times (3am-6am). We currently have a maximum of 12 reload engines running concurrently.

All systems run System Center Endpoint Protection and have exclusions for QlikView-related folders and files. And I have confirmed that backups are not running during the times that we experience problems.

Two or three times a week, we will encounter an error that affects QVS on Servers 2 3. Most of the time the errors we see start off on one of the two servers with the following:
CQvXmlInterfaceRequestHandler - Catch: Threw an error...

This is accompanied by the "No Server" message in Access Point, and our only recourse is to restart QVS on that system, which resolves the issue immediately. Then, within a few minutes, we usually see either the same error message on the other QVS server, or we see an inconsistency (usually type D, but sometimes type F):
Restart: Server aborted trying to recover by restart. Reason for restart: Internal inconsistency, type F, detected.qvpx: Exception while handling request

This usually seems to happen between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. Most of our reloads finish up by 6:00 AM, so there's not a lot of action on these systems outside of the QVS services. At any given time, we usually have between 20 and 35 concurrent users spread across the two systems.

To make things more confusing, we get PGO errors every week or two. We'll have extension-less 0KB files named things like 'CalID' appear in the root folder and C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer\. The error message in the logs usually have invalid characters in the path, like the message below. These are always accompanied by a QVS crash or restart:
PGO: Failed to open C:\P\CalD鮵ꁑ. Error : C:\P\CalD鮵ꁑ contains an incorrect path.. Time: 0 ms

So far, the way we have dealt with those problems is to take a QlikView outage, clean up the PGO files, and restart services. That usually sets us straight for another week or two (max).

I will attach some logs from both server 1 and 2 from this morning, in which we had the exact issue described above. I'm hoping that somebody may have some insight into this problem or suggestions on what to look at. I'm running out of ideas, and I'm really struggling to correlate this to any one thing. There are some weeks where it'll happen 3 times, and some weeks where it happens maybe once. And other than these random crashes, our system runs like a champ. It just has this annoying hiccup.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm all ears.

DB:2.86:Cqvxmlinterfacerequesthandler Errors, Inconsistencies, Pgo Problems, Qvs Crashes sx

I would also get the 72745 patch also. You would install 72745 and then 72746

Thus if the load library call had failed you would see that exception
and you have verified that exception is not occurring?

Obviously if that step is working on all machines then it would be pointless
to look at directories because it would mean that the library is being found.

You have verified that nothing with the same name exists anywhere else?

Presumably one of the following is true
    1. The library is new.
    2. The library is a replacement - it is in fact being replaced with the new version?

DB:2.85:External Dll Calling Vb Function? 1s

I'm using a 3rd party DLL to access a proprietary Database. It's designed to invoke a function called CALL_ME_FUNCTION to make the datarows available to my program. What makes it difficult is the CALL_ME_FUNCTION is in the VB program and therefor, external
to the DLL iteself. I've got the CALL_ME_FUNCTION written in my program, but how do you give access of it to the DLL? I've written lots of code that invokes functions inside a external DLL, but this is the first time I've encountered a DLL that needs to run
    a VB function.

DB:2.85:External Dll Calling Vb Function? 1s

The problem was the callback pointer not being exposed inside the DLL.Having never used callbacks before, I didn'tknow enough to realize something was amiss in the DLL until I looked at the example posted by mr. Clement.
The Developer of the DLL will fixtheir issue and I'll get to learn implement something new - everybody wins.

I believe you would have to enable PGO in the application which launches it. Individual .obj, other thanmain(),and those for which you want PGO, don't need to have PGO, but the link and startup configurationwould be important. You should also be able to run PGO without profiling .dll, then include the PGO in the final build with .dll. If your project is outside the scope of what you can get help on in the forum, consider filing an issue on premier.intel.com, even if only to clarify your issue.

    Just bought 2 Wytek USBDM-1-JS16. Firmware V4.10.

    Followed instructions on http://www.evbplus.com/freescale_usbdm_osbdm/usbdm_osbdm_bdm_multilink.html

    Downloaded installed drivers from http://sourceforge.net/projects/usbdm/files/Version%204.10.3/Installation/USBDM_Drivers_1_0_1_Win_x32.msi/download

Plugged in Wytek BDM and did the Found New Hardware Wizard, specifying where to find the drivers, "C:\Program Files\pgo\USBDM Drivers 1.0.1". Also tried "C:\Program Files\pgo\USBDM Drivers 1.0.1\Drivers\JS16_driver"

The driver installation fails: "Cannot Start this Hardware, There was a problem installing this hardware: USBDM BDM Interface, Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)."

I've tried this repeatedly, on 2 different PCs, both are Windows XP-Pro 32bit. Same results on both PCs.

Device Manager Driver Details shows 3 files:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\WinUSB.sys

    C:\WINDOWS\system32WdfCoInstaller01011.dll

Hi all! Now I'm going to explain this strange subject. I've made a DLL in Delphi that imports a file from a server. Then I've created an Oracle 9iR2 procedure that makes a call to this DLL. Someone can explain me why the first call to this DLL is slower than the successive calls (20 seconds the first, 5 seconds the other)?

    Thank you very much!

DB:2.78:Calling A Dll From Oracle: Problem Of Time!!! 7x

you have to tell Oracle there is an external procedure via create procedure SQL

and then you have to tell it how to find and reference it - this is done by setting up the listener.ora correctly

Check out the application developers guide or alternatively there is an excellent book called Expert One on One Oracle by Tom Kyte which has a full section on this including examples.

    Hi,
I am calling a dll by passing a pointer filled with a list of parameters which also contains STL, (Vectors) that is used inside the DLL.
DLL function gets Void Pointer as input, and converts it to necessary pointer type inside the DLL.
Problem: When the pointer is passed inside the DLL function for the First time, the Function gets called properly and does what is required. But, when the same function is invoked for the second time, the pointer is getting corrupted.
Can any one recommend, the best way of calling a DLL?
Is using Void pointer inside DLL function and converting it inside the DLL the best practice of using DLL!
Good references and suggestions are appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

    Dear osoraku,

The DLL for USBDM were built with eclipse MINGW. It should be possible to to build them with VC++ but there are some environment variables that should be set for the different targets. This is done as part of the eclipse setup and would be automatically done if the eclipse packages were imported into Eclipse.

I'm having a crash when I run an application in PGO instrumentation mode.  I can reproduce the problem in a small Win32 DLL and a small Win32 console application.  Here is the code in the DLL (in addition to the standard DllMain() function):
// File DLLHeader.h.  ISDLL must be defined in the Win32 DLL project but not the console application.
    #ifdef ISDLL#define DECLSPEC __declspec(dllexport)#else#define DECLSPEC __declspec(dllimport)#endif
    class DECLSPEC MyClass{public:    static void  InlineFct(int n, double a, double *y);};
    inline voidMyClass::InlineFct(int n, double a, double *y){    if(n 0) {        while(n-- 0)            *y++ *= a;    // Crash occurs on this line on initial read of *y in PGO Instrument builds    }}
    In the Win32 console application:
    #include "DLLHeader.h"
    int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]){    double v[] = {0, 1, 2};    MyClass::InlineFct(3, 1.0, v[0]);    return 0;}
The program crashes when it attempts to access the pointer memory in InlineFct() in Release builds using PGO Instrumentation.  No failures occur in standard Debug or Release builds.  I've also tried this on a beta SP1 system.
Can anyone shed light on this?
    Thanks.

I have good LV 6.1 experience but have little exposure to making dll. First, I want to know by a simple example how to make dll and make it's call in Labview. Second, if I want to use that dll in another software like VB, do I need to install labview run-time to execute the dll?

    Thanks,

    DB:2.71:Do I Need To Install Labview Run-Time To Use A Dll? 7k

In the links I provided there are some examples for calling LV DLLs with arrays (at least in c\c++, I haven't seen VB).

If you insist on simulating this in LV, it's somewhat different, but you should also be able to find examples there, or by searching for DLL in the example finder. The basic trick in passing an array by reference is to allocate the right size for the structure before calling the DLL and passing that structure into the input terminal which is next to the output terminal where it should come out, so if you expect a 30 element 1D DBL array, initialize such an array and wire it into the DLL. This also works with clusters.

    Well this is strange:

So when compiling with -Qprof-gen, the program compiles and runs fine, when using -Qprof-use (or without PGO at all) the program doesn't compile. I tried using -FORCE in the linker, but to no avail.

Initially we are looking for four members from the forums here to make up two teams for the OPC. Therefore, in the interest of fairness I am going to say the first four people who show interest will be in. If you are part of a clan however and think that you can muster together a team then PM me through the forum and I will see if there is space for your clan. We are obviously limited to the number of people we can enter.

    DB:2.64:Secondary Dll Not Refreshing 9k

Hi, I am using Labview2009 for my application. The applciation calls a dll developed in vc++(main dll). While executing the application the main dll(vc++) calls another dll(secondary dll) developed in vb 6.0. During the process, the main dll sends datas to secondary dll to display the datas in a popup window. After getting user acknowledge from the display, the application vi stops.

When the application is running first time(running the vi first time after open labview), the datas sent by the main dll are updated in the display of secondary dll. But, from the second time onwards the new datas from the main dll are not updated in the display of secondary dll. Again, after closing vi and quitting labview, if i open and run the vi, then the datas from the main dll are updated in the display of secodary dll.

My application needs the data of the maindll needs to be updated in secondary dll without quitting labview everytime. I am using 'Call Library function' to call the maindll. Can anyone please give the remody for this problem.. Thanks in advance. Swamy.

    DB:2.64:Secondary Dll Not Refreshing 9k

    Hi

I think your problem is to do with the way that DLL is handled in Windows (not sure about other OS).DLLs are loaded when they are used for the first time and remain in memory until the program exits. When you call the DLL from the LabVIEW development environment the same thing happens. The DLL is loaded only on the first call and will not be unloaded until LabVIEW exits. This applies to all languages and it is unfortunately normal.

When the program is run outside of LabVIEW as an executable, the behaviour is likely to be slightly different. In this case, I would expect the DLL to be unloaded each time the program exits.Sorry I can not really help more than this, it is just the way it is.

I’m creating a DLL in LabView that will interact with a DLL created in C++. I don’t have control in the C++ DLL.

Both DLLs would pass a big amount of data as strings between them, for that it is necessary to allocate memory to store information in one dll and read it in the other and viceversa. The first time I will call the other DLL, with this function :

long in texts ( unsigned char *name, void *id)

I would pass them a pointer pointer to an ASCII string (name) and a pointer to an unspecific data structure (id). The id would then be passed to me by his DLL whenever they use one of the functions implemented on my dll.

What I don’t know is what to pass as a void*id? What are they expecting? A number? A cluster?

The other thing I don’t know is how to allocate memory in labview and write there information, such as a string, and then tell the other DLL to look for the information at that DLL, and viceversa. I hope I made my self clear, hope somebody can help me, and please indicate me if you need more information

DB:2.63:Licenses Assigned Are Deleted, The Pgo Files Are Generated Again 87

    Hi,

I was looking for the reason and the way to solve this issue, talking with QT Support and doing some test for that.

This issue can be occurs if any other application as a backup or antivirus tool deletes the pgo files where the licenses information is stored. This issue also can be occurs if you have the installation path of the server out of the local server, at the net, in a NAS or a SAN storage architecture, because maybe you can have a connectivity problem with the storage and this can perform the insync pgo files.

The pgo files should be ever the same timestamp.

As Nag and Peter says the default folders to store the pgo files are the followings:

o C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer (Backup files of pgo files. Is a copy of Documents)
o C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\Documents (Files that are using by the console in real time)

So...in my environment I cant find the reason because these problems not occurs.

But to solve this issue, is recommendable to maintain a daily backup of pgo files to restore if is necessary, but is more recommendable maintain a documentation with the information of all licenses applied in the console (users in each documento with document cals, named cals for example) to delete the corrupts pgo files and reassign all the licenses again.

Thank you very much Peter and Nag!

I hope that it can be helpful for anyone.

    Regards.

DB:2.60:Qvs Cluster Configuration For Pgo Files am

We have a two-node QVS cluster. AccessPoint (QV Web Server) is doing the clustering; e.g. there is no hardware load balancer "in front."

Yesterday I implemented a nightly restart of the Qlikview Server service on both boxes in the cluster (I have found this to be a good practice in other environments.) This morning I found that the allocation of leased User CAL's in the QEMC are gone; all of them.

I'm guessing this could have something to do with the PGO files. From the clustering white paper, I found this:

    Shared Network Storage

This is required not only for the .pgo file mentioned above but also for storage of QlikView applications that are across the nodes in the cluster (.shared files).

All of our QVW's are shared on network storage, but not the case with the PGO files. Currently the PGO's are located on both QVS boxes, under C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer. The update timestamps on both sets (both boxes) matches, with the exception of BorrowedCalData.pgo,

Does anyone know how the PGO location is properly configured for a clustered environment?

    Thanks -Isaiah

DB:2.60:Qvs Cluster Configuration For Pgo Files am

Ok, I also see a copy of the PGO files (but no FUL.DAT) on the shared storage. I'm guessing this is managed automatically. Each set of the PGO's (server1, server2 and the shared storage) are getting updated rather regularly judging from the "last update" timestamps.

So my real concern is, why after a restart of the Qlikview Server service on both boxes (done via NET STOP/START) would we lose the license lease allocation? I did notice this from the EXIT.LOG file on both QVS boxes:

2012-02-09 07:00:22: Termination not completed within 20s. Quitting!

The qvs.exe process on both boxes was eating over 200GB of memory, so I'm not all that surprised that it wouldn't die gracefully within 20 seconds. But could that be the problem with the license leases?

Any insight is much appreciated. -Isaiah

    Hi,
I'm trying to compile a dll project with PGO (I'm using VS2012).
The problem is that no PGC file is created when I 'Run Instrumented/Optimized Application', it subsequently isn't merged into the PGD file and awarning C4961: 'No profile data was merged into...' is produced.
The dll is a COM dll that is being loaded dynamically by the host application (MS office) - and that might be what is complicating things.
Is there a way around this?

I am currently having an issue on our production server/publisher. So far three times today we have lost all of our User CAL information. The server says

Named User CALs: 0 assigned (xxx in license). We then have to go in and manually update our user lists which takes a long time and our users cannot access QlikView when this happens. We also have seen this issue in the past few days but not as often as it happened today. We tried deleting the PGO files and starting new, but it still continues to happen. Has anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?

I got the Information from Qlik-Support, that named user cals could be lost if the QlikView-Server got out of Memory. In this case the QlikView-Server-process restarts and it occurs that the pgo-File won't be closed correct. In some cases the pgo-File get corrupted.

I simply copied the "Utilities" directory provided by PGO on the second computer, but it doesn't work at all.

CodeWarrior and CodeSourcery are installed on the first machine, but not on the other one. I conclude that some files in the CodeWarrior or CodeSourcery directories are required to get CFV1 Flash Programmer running, right ?

Is it possible to get a standalone CFV1 Flash Programmer ? Which files are required to do it ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Does anyone have a link explaining just exactly what firefox-pgo actually is? I know it is tracemonkey-enabled, XULrunner independent and is compiled for the processor and some optimizations but no real detail of the differences. I installed the package from AUR and I it seems a lot faster than regular firefox. I searched google and could not find any clear details on what it actually does. I tried to find out more information on it and all I could find was: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Building_w...ed_Optimization The article seems to describe on how to do that in windows.

With PGO, after Firefox is compiled (written code is made ready for the computer as binary code), the just generated binary is ran while another application monitors how it behaves and creates a profile of what parts of Firefox are more used and in what order. Then the code is compiled again but this time guided by the produced profile generating a new optimized build
