    DB:3.37:Plesk 8 To Plesk 10 Migration aj

    Hello,

    I have an existing server running Plesk 8 that I need to do a full migration over to a Plesk 10 server. What would be the suggested route to take on this?

    DB:3.37:Plesk 8 To Plesk 10 Migration aj

    Ive just done one. It was delightfully easy.

    There are a number of ways to do it, but arguably the easiest would be as follows:

    1) Set up your new server the way you want it.

    2) Ideally back it up at this point, in such a way that you can wipe it and restore it to this point.

    3) Do a test migration to the new server. That it, just use migration manager to migrate everything you would want to migrate. Make sure it completes OK. Check the error log afterwards. You will almost certainly see errors, but 99 times out of 100 they are of no consequence.

    4) Set up the nifty new site preview feature in Plesk 10 so that you can properly check some migrated websites, especially those running php.

    5) Check error logs.

    6) Investigate the option youll see in the Tools section regarding completing the transition of migrated accounts to the new business model (Im sorry -- I dont remember the exact name of the option, but youll see it highlighted after a migration. Dealing with this and understanding how it works is important

    7) If you were able to do item 2, wipe and restore. If not, delete all customers (their domains go with them).

    8) When you are ready to do the real migration, firewall your plesk 8 server to close down everything except access from your new server and your remote IP

    9) Do the migration again.

    10) Do another quick check to make sure all appears OK

    11) Shut down Plesk 8 server

    12) Change IPs on Plesk 10 server to match those on Plesk 8 server. Do this on the system itself, and use the reconfigurator utility to remap the IPs within Plesk.

    13) Change hostname if need be.

    14) Reboot it need be.

    15) Check again to make sure all is well.

    To be honest the devil is in the detail. Will your new server have a different version of PHP and MySQL? If yes, then you may need to warn your customers that they need to check script compatibility etc.

    php.ini needs to be correctly configured - by default newer versions report all sorts of errors that will fill your logs and potentially slow down your system. Memory limits and so on are different.

    my.cnf needs to be adjusted to meet your needs too.

    You really need to get comfortable with Plesk 10, and especially the new business model (subscriptions) and the way you transition migrated accounts to use subscriptions.

    Faris.

    I was trying to use the migration manager to transfer data from plesk 9.5.4 to 11.5.30 and before transfering, I got this weird message:

    Insufficient disk space on the source server to store temporary files for transfer. Available: 255610 MB. Required: 357779 MB. Please free disk space on the source server.

    How can this be possible if youre claiming youre now using rsync transport as a default (and only) option? On the source server there is about 550 GB of data, so I cannot imagine where the 357779 MB comes from? Is this only a cosmetic error or will the transfer really fail?

    DB:3.26:Migration Insufficient Space? sj

    And how do I do that? Perhaps just delete a few customers? They will soon leave anyway considering what Parallels is doing to us...

    So there is no way to use rsync transport when migrating from 9.5.4?

    We have a old server running Plesk 8.1 and want to migrate ALL the data on it to a Plesk 8.2 server.

    How do I migrate the data? I saw the Migration Manager in the 8.2 Control Panel . Is it as simple as supplying the hostname and login?

    Also, on the old 8.1 server, if the migration fails, will if affect the domains on the old server? Hopefully, not cause that isnt kosher.

    Thanks in advance for any input.

    hi,

    we are going to migrate 50 websites from our older server to our new server.

    both of the servers are windows and both of them are using plesk 9.3.0

    first i enter to old server RDC, and in RDC i enter to new server plesk panel and go migration manager and click to Synchronize. it gives me a link for Plesk Migration Agent. i download it and install it. after installation, we started it. the Plesk Migration Agent is now running.

    then i exit from RDC when it is running, and i enter to new servers plesk panel from my browser on my own computer. then go to migration manager, then click Start New Migration

    i select Transfer data from another server then enter my old server administrator login details.

    Directory on the target host where Migration Manager will transfer and store temporary migration files part is C:\temp
    and select Only manually selected resellers, clients and domains
    also select Compress data during the transfer (i tried one time with deselecting it too but nothing is changed)

    and i push to the next button

    but we see the following error after pushing next button:

    Error: The version of Plesk Migration Agent running on the remote host is older than the version of Plesk Migration Manager being currently used. Please install Plesk Migration Manager components of the same version.

    but as i told, i downloaded and installed the version that it gives me to install to the old server.

    i must do it as soon as possible.

    do you have any comments on this?

    thank you very much..

    Get new Agents

    Unistall previous versions of PMM from both servers if you are able to.

    Get onto the Parrallels download page on the source server and download the latest migration agent you can find, currently 9.5.2 -- http://www.parallels.com/uk/download/plesk/utilities/ -- you should find it on that page.

    Install it and run it.

    Now install the exact same version on the target server.

    Now log into Plesk on the target server and run the migration utility.

    Success!!!

    This is what I had to do to get my migration to work even after trying the syncronise thing like you did!

    Hello.

    I try migrate my server with plesk 9.5 to another new server with plesk 12.0.18.

    When i enter all dates and check the migration plesk said me this error:

    Insufficient disk space on the source server to store temporary files for transfer. Available: 0 MB. Required: 149 MB. Please free disk space on the source server.

    But the source server have 1800 gb free and the destination server 400 gb free...with technical assistance of plesk we make a link simbolic from /migration to /var/migration beacause this partition have more space in disk and continues without work.

    Thanks you.

    DB:2.88:Troubles Migrating Big (5gb) Domains Between 2 Plesk 7.6 Instances xd

    Hi

    I tried to migrate a Plesk installation from one server to another (both Plesk 7.6), using the Plesk Migration Manager (Version 7.6, from the filename i assume the build is 20060809.17). On the other host i installed the Plesk Migration Agent (same version an build)
    First i started a Full migration, typed in the host from which i want to migrate, supplied destination ip address and stuff. After i clicked Next all i saw was the Please wait. Loading... notice. After about 20 minutes i got this error message:
    Error: Unable to deploy the migrated objects:
    Unable to run migrmng: Unable to convert dump to Plesk Format.

    i retried it a couple of times and was confronted with the same error everytime. Then i watched the disk usage on the host i wanted to migrate from during 3 new tries. I observed the same behaviour everytime: the size of the directory where the dump should be placed increased to a size of about 5Gigabytes, after that i was confronted with the error message again (and the dump got deleted).

    The partition on which i placed the migration dump has a size of 11GB and is completely empty, so this should not be a space issue i assume.

    The same happend when i tried a selective migration with a domain of about 6GB of size. I was able to migrate one smaller domain (about 200MB), with another domain (about 150MB) i got the same error (the migration dump was of course way smaller than 5GB).

    Is this a known issue or is there a other workaround besides making a backup of the single domains on one host an import the backup on the other?
    Because the partition on which Plesk is installed only has about 800 MB free space and i didnt find any configuration option to tell Plesk to place the backupfile elsewhere. If there is one i would like to learn about but i really prefer to do the migration with the Plesk Migration Manager.

    OK so 2 big problems. I have about 1TB of data on the source server, mainly mailboxes with Smartermail. There is no way that the Plesk migration manager can dump these on the source server and the method I read of trying to disable this, setting:
    SkipMailMsgBackup=true
    On the target server doesnt seem to have changed anything.

    Next problem is the location of the dump. For some reason its putting it on the C:\ drive where there is only about 20GB free space so thats definitely not working. On the Source server I set
    dumpdirectory value=e:\dumptemp

    But that doesnt seem to work and it still use C:\PMMtemp and the drive is filling and I had to cancel it (as it was doing the mailboxes too!). What am I doing wrong? Should it really be this hard?

    symlinks save the day!

    I wanted to jump in and talk a little bit about my experience with symlinks.

    1and1.coms server partitioning is ridiculous and is not condusive to a busy server. Creating symlinks to get around the limitations is a ridiculously simple and beautiful way of fixing the problems!

    For instance, 1and1.com provide a 5GB partition for both e-mail and for MySQL databases. Suffice to day, I have over 90 accounts on my server and this is not enough!

    For a while, I found myself doing maintainance on my clients e-mail boxes -- finding out if certain clients had e-mail accounts that were forwarding addresses with the mailbox option turned on and optimizing my databases just to continually find a way to keep the ship from sinking.

    mkdir /home/qmail
    service qmail stop
    mv /var/qmail/mailnames /home/qmail
    ln -s /home/qmail /var/qmail/mailnames

    =) - amazing.

    The same goes with /opt ... Im finding that my server and symlinks not only get around these problems, but also allow my PLESK related files to all be accessed via /home, which is a little more convenient.

According to the Switching to Panel 10 (http://www.greenflashinternet.nl/uploads/media/plesk-10-switching-administrator-guide.pdf) document, there should be a way to do this automatically. Dear all,

    DB:2.77:Confixx Migration To Plesk Panel 87

    Migration

    Hi,

    I would like to give some feedback of a very successful migration.
    It was only possible because of the excellent support from Parallels technician Mr. Sergey.

    We started of with Confixx version 3.3.6 which hosted a couple of hundred domains.
    Out of all of this domains only about 100 should be migrated.

    I contacted Parallels sales and they responded quickly with a quote. I called them and requested to be connected to a technician in order to ask for help in the migration process, in regard to which documentation should be read and how the migration should be done. I was connected to Mr. Sergey who then answered all of my questions. He also recommended to do a testmigration beforehand.

    From there on I needed a lot of help from Mr. Sergey because

    - Testmigrations failed mostly in the beginning
    - There were loads of errors in the log which needed to be dealt with
    - There were some smaller bugs in the migration assisant which needed Parallels development engineers to resolve
    - There were lots of problems on the source confixx server which caused the migration to fail or to produce errors. This problems were mostly caused by things such as empty passwords, incorrect domain names, and user customizations which shouldnt have been done in the way they had been done
    - Some websites had to be manually adjusted (ex. database username had changed)
    - The target Plesk system had problems (FTP not working, and Mr. Sergey found the problem - Debian already had installed a FTP server, only needed to deactivte the existing one so that the Plesk FTP server worked)

    All in all Mr. Sergey from Parallels was extremly supportive and helpful. He himself initiated a few testmigrations in our computing environment in order to reproduce the problems I was reporting. He was in contact with the Parallels development team to resolve bugs which were found during the migration process. These bugs where then resolved in the next version. Also when beginning the migration I was installing version 10.3 of Plesk and later on Parallels released Plesk 10.4 with a greatly improved confixx to plesk migration assistant which had the bugs resolved which were reported in 10.3. Just to be clear, most of the problems were not due to bugs in the software but to the setup of the confixx server itself.

    I made about 8-9 Testmigrations and I invested about 44 man hours, not including the numerous hours Mr. Sergey invested on his side. It took us about 2 months investigating and fixing. I believe it could have been done in 4 weeks if one would have been dedicated to only this task.

    For anybody else attempting to migration confixx to plesk the best advise I can give is to plan enough time for this beforehand. Setup a target virtual machine which you can take a snapshot of the Operating System (we used Debian 6) and before each testmigration revert back to the snapshot, install plesk and start the testmigration. Then analyze the logs carefully and test as much as possible on the target system (we used a local hosts file which used the IP Address of the new plesk server for all domains in order to test them) before trying again.

    Best regards and good luck

    DB:2.76:Problem With Migration Manager On Plesk Under Debian d1

    Hi. I have installed Debian on a slave drive of my system and Plesk under it. Now it says migration manager is installed, but the button is still disabled. Have I done something wrong -- I am sure my key is OK.

    Now what I would actually like to do is (if this is possible) is to migrate from the system on my other drive to the Debian version on the slave drive. If this is not possible what would be the best way to do this -- I have an older version of the system on another server, but not all the files are there.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    yeah its a work in progress, you can generally grab a capture of memory using the dd command. It depends on the version of the kernel though, newer versions have put a number of restrictions on what you can get at from userspace. dd if=/dev/kmem of=foo or dd if=/dev/mem of=bar is a good place to start.

    Can anybody tell me how can we do migration from V5R2 to oracle?
    Is there any free tool is available?
    Where can I get documentation for V5R2 to Oracle migration?

    DB:2.73:Migration From V5r2 To Oracle kx

    There is no utility for IOS V5 migrations. The currently available SQL Developer 2.1 only supports LUW 8 and 9 migrations.

    You can check the links on this page: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/isv/db_mig_path.html
    as this site contains links to 3rd party provides as well as ISVs.

    If you don't find any suitable info you might think about exporting the DB2 table content to flat files and importing them into the Oracle database using SQL*Loader. Another approach might be to use the Oracle database gateway for ODBC which allows you to connect from an Oracle database to a foreign db using a 3rd party ODBC driver. You can then fetch the DB2 content and insert it into the Oracle database.

    Hello,

    We want to let you know that a new software for Plesk is available from 4PSA. The VoipNow Plesk Module is FREE and allows service providers and businesses running Plesk to add hosted PBX services. The module performs the connection between Plesk and 4PSA VoipNow servers.

    Plesk - VoipNow is the only solution available on the market for companies that want to offer integrated hosting and VoIP to their customers. The new VoipNow Plesk Module opens the gate to a wide range of new opportunities for hosting providers. With VoipNow Plesk Module hosting providers have the tools to use the huge potential of the SMB market, a market that is spending on average eight times more on communication services than on website hosting.

    VoipNow Plesk Module was designed to:

    - facilitate migration to unified communication services

    - make easy the upsell of VoIP services to hosting customers

    - simplify hosting and VoIP management for hosting customers as everything is integrated in Plesk interface

    More details about VoipNow Plesk Module .

    Find out how you can integrate Plesk and VoipNow.

    VoipNow Plesk Module requires Plesk 8.4 running on Unix/Linux. It is supplied in RPM, DEB and shell installer formats. Virtuozzo templates are also available.

    There is a bug that Im not sure is the Migration Manager or a botched upgrade from prior versions but it impacts upgrades from 5.0.5.

    Check your migration log located at /usr/local/psa/PMM/var/migration.log

    If it references errors relating to SQL queries that are looking for d.params_id then verify that your psa.domains SQL table is missing the params_id column. If it is, then this fix should help you:

    Modify the script the Migration Manager remote tool located at /usr/local/psa/PMM/PleskX.pl

    At line 3297 youll see:

    } elsif (atLeastVersion(5, 0, 0)) {
    $sql = SELECT p.value FROM Parameters p, domains d WHERE .
    p.id = d.params_id AND d.id = $domainId AND p.parameter = catch_addr;
    } else {
    $sql = SELECT dp.val FROM dom_param dp WHERE dp.dom_id = $domainId AND dp.param = catch_addr;
    }

    The 5.0.5 we upgraded did not have this table structure for the domains table that included the params_id column.
    Copy the 2nd SQL query at line 3301 and place it above the else line so that either test will use the same query and you should be good to go. The result should look like this:

    } elsif (atLeastVersion(5, 0, 0)) {
    $sql = SELECT p.value FROM Parameters p, domains d WHERE .
    p.id = d.params_id AND d.id = $domainId AND p.parameter = catch_addr;
    $sql = SELECT dp.val FROM dom_param dp WHERE dp.dom_id = $domainId AND dp.param = catch_addr;
    } else {
    $sql = SELECT dp.val FROM dom_param dp WHERE dp.dom_id = $domainId AND dp.param = catch_addr;
    }

    Enjoy!

    I used the Cobalt RaQ4/5 migration tool that is in Plesk 7.5.2 (i guess its standard, or maybe its only in there if you have the applications pak). And it seemed to work fine.

    The only problems i ran into was with the way that plesk sees users and domains, as opposed to the way Cobalt sets them up. But over all, the process with clean, simple, and easy.

    My customers didnt even know things had changed!

    The only real problem I had was one of my customers had a password of around 16 characters - and plesk didnt like that... it imported, but truncated the password.

    Im getting a new server with plesk 7.5.1, and I plan to migrate clients from an older server that has plesk 6.0. I had a few questions.

    1. Does the plesk migration tool transfer email accounts (including emails on server), login and databases?

    2. Are SSL Certificates transferred?

    3. How reliable is the plesk migration tool?

    DB:2.63:Client Migration cz

    Weve used the migration tool to bring domains across from RaQ550s, other Plesk 7.x machines, and Ensim. So far, it has been very reliable, and a fun timesaver.

    Mail accounts come over with no trouble. Databases make it perfectly when going from Plesk to Plesk. Logins and admins are handled well.

    Weve not yet tried bringing over a site with a SSL cert, so be sure and post how that works out. Should not be a huge issue to transfer over even if it doesnt come in with the migration...

    Does a migration continue even though Plesk times out and logs me out in the middle of a long migration?

    I started a migration of one client with 32 domains. It was taking quite a bit of time and showing 50% so I took a break away from the computer. When I returned and clicked the refresh I was greeted with a log in screen.

    After logging in I clicked the Migration Manager and it returned to the progress window still showing the same 50% where it had left off half an hour earlier.

    I guess the question is, does Plesk on my desktop need to remain open for the migration to complete or can a migration be started between servers and left to run even if Plesk is closed on my local machine? --- or does it stop then resume where it left off when I log back in?

    Side question, if Plesk must remain open for the duration, then how can I stop it from logging me out without my having to babysit the computer?

    DB:2.63:Migration Agent Hangs 7.5.4 - 8.2.0 ds

    I am trying to do a migration from Plesk 7.5.4 using Plesk 8.2.0. I only tried 1 domain to keep things simple.

    I get through the first couple of steps without any issue, but when I get to the point where it should be listing the objects available for import, it just hangs, saying Waiting the reponse from agent.

    I check with my hosting provider, since it is their pre-installed VPS, and they said that I should just run the update version of Migration Manager on both servers and everything should be fine. This doesnt really make sense to me, as migration manager gives me an option to import Plesk 7.x objects.

    In fact, I think I even ran a successful migration on these same servers a few months ago.

    So, am I missing something? Where can I start looking for the problem?

    Hello,
    1. This error usually appears when you use new pmm_buildXXXX.XX.msi with old pmm_agent_buildXXXX.XX.msi. The XXXX.XX numbers must be equal. You should install pmm_buildXXXX.XX.msi on the destination side and pmm_agent_buildXXXX.XX.msi to the source side.
    2. Port for PMM must be free. Look at Configuring Migration Manager Components (http://download1.swsoft.com/Plesk/Plesk7.6/Windows/PMM/060809.17/plesk-win-pmm-guide/index.htm ).
    3. If your source server have several IPs you should try to connect to another IP.
    Thanks.
