    DB:4.03:Need Help With Problem Using Pitch Bend Wheel In Logic 8 78

    Hello,

    I just upgraded to Logic Studio to compose an upcoming film score with, and I've run into a problem. Previously I used GarageBand and the Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack with my 66-key M-Audio Keystation MIDI keyboard, using the pitch bend wheel for string crescendos and decrescendos. It's made a huge difference in lending more performance emotion to the piece. Logic 8 is an incredible improvement over Garageband, but for some reason the pitch bend wheel no longer works to control the volume/expression of the strings. This is also the case now with Garageband (even though it worked fine before installing Logic Studio). I did a lot of research to try to figure out why this is, and from the best I can tell, it seems like it has something to do with one of the MIDI controllers needing to be reassigned.

    The pitch bend wheel works fine to bend the pitch on other patches, but for the Symphony Orchestra Jam pack, it doesn't do anything.

    In case this helps, I tried recording with the pitch bend/expression wheel on one of the Symphony Orchestra string sounds in GarageBand, and although there's no difference in volume when I turn the wheel as I record, I do hear the expression once I rewind and listen to the recording. So apparently it's recording the signal (at least in Garageband), but somehow I can't hear it when I'm performing. I'm not sure if the same is true in Logic.

    Any help would be greatly appreciatedI need to use those sounds for the score, and I don't have too much time before I need to get started. Thanks!

    DB:4.03:Need Help With Problem Using Pitch Bend Wheel In Logic 8 78

    Open the symphony orch instruments in exs24, if they're currently simple garageband instruments just change the plugin to exs24 and it'll "promote" the instrument to the bigger sample player, and here you'll find you can adjust the pitch range and change a whole host of other parameters.

    That help?

    I have the latest GB and Mountain Lion.
    Now I wanted to use the pitch bend wheel for a Guitar track, using the standard "Big Lead" guitar.But although it sounds correct while recording (with the musical keyboard), the result is only half of the wanted pitch bend.
    And even when I try to correct it manually in the pitch editor dialog, it does not change!I tried also to use the pitch wheel in Absynth and FM8, but with the same result.likeIs there any workaround?I would like to be able to set the range of the pitch bend wheel, too.
    Another way, which could be helpful, if I could use the AUPitch plugin in conection with an automation track - I mean, to be able to control the input. Now it's quite useless in the automation track, because there is no way to get a desired value. By the way, the same problem (to get excact values) appears in the volume track of the master track!!!!It would be a great help, when I could double click a dot to enter a value by numbers. Any help would be appriciated!Dietmar

    Hey guys. I just wanted to know how you can make a smooth pitch bend using automation. Whenever you try to lower/raise the pitch by a number of semitones, it only changes rigidly, going straight up or down to the next pitch. This works fine in Garageband, but I can't get it to work in logic. Any help would be appreciated.

    DB:3.44:Smooth Pitch Bend In Logic? fm

    And you can make logic learn to interpret any keyboard controller of your keyboard as pitch bend (controller assignment).

    DB:3.29:Question About Midi Learning 87

    alright so i finally figured out how to map out midi using apple-L in logic. I think this is the easiest way.

    i have a question though, as i am new to midi.

    Each knob corresponds to something i can do with my mouse right? so if i can change the wave form with my mouse by dragging a knob i can set that to a tangible knob on m controller. okay.

    now, for stuff like modulation, pitch bend, and sustain, where is that found on the computer? is there a virtual knob or are these midi controls always set to do the same thing? inother words, can i pitch bend by doing something with my mouse? can i see my pitch bend wheel to do something else? can i set something else to do what my pitch bend does?

    remember i am new so if you could try to keep the language/instruction simple for me i would appreciate it.

    also, and i realize i should post this in the Digidesign forums, does anyone happen to know how to midi learn somthing like the mixer levels in protools?

    thanks.

    DB:3.16:Car Settings Explained. Detailed Explanation!! 3f

    Hi all. This thread will briefly explain the basics in understanding the technical side of a formula one car. I am sure alot of people who are formula one fanatics already know most of the information supplied here but I hope it serves newcomers or, in general, people who are interested in the workings of a formula one car.The information supplied can also help when it comes to playing F1 CE. Thanks for taking time out to read this thread.

    FUEL:
    The more fuel you have in the car the heavier it becomes. This means that acceleration becomes slower, braking takes longer and your maximum speed drops. The harder you go, the more the tyres will skid under braking and the more fuel you will consume. Carefully choose the amount of fuel you take onboard and try to anticipate the number of stops needed to refuel.

    TYRES:
    Tyres provide the only link between the car and the ground and are crucial to your cars performance. The tyres of a formula one car are high performing, but even the most resistant never last longer than one race and sometimes only a few laps at their highest peformance. In general a soft tyre has a high performance because it grips the track well but tends to wear out after 20 laps or so. A hard tyre performs less effectively because it has weaker grip attributes but on the plus side it will last longer allowing for less time spent in the pits changing tyres.

    STEERING:
    Understeer: This occurs in a bend when the front tyres lose their grip before the rear tyres do. To gain control of an understeering car, its important to immediately increase the vertical load at the front by lifting your foot off the accelerator (perhaps to lightly brake). A car that understeers remains stable, contrary to one that oversteers

    Oversteer: This occurs in a bend when the rear tyres lose their grip before the front tyres do. The car then goes into a rear skid and, more often than not, finishes with the car facing the opposite direction. To correct oversteer you must counter lock the steering and apply light even pressure on the accelerator.

    Stable/unstable behaviour: A car is said to be stable when the speed drops sharply it returns to its initial trajectory. A car with understeer is as stable as a car which behaves neutrally. A car is said to behave neutrally in a corner if the front and rear wheels lose grip at the same time. It is the ideal situation as the car slides along its trajectory thus the driver does't need to make any corrections.

    SUSPENSION
    The suspension is made up of springs, anti-roll bars and dampers. The springs control the wheels vertical movement against the body, this is known as travel. The firmer the springs (stiffness) the greater the force needed to make the wheels travel. Setting the spring rate for each wheel influences the cars behaviour, notably the roll and the pitch. The firmer the springs the less the car will roll in the corners and the less it will pitch under acceleration and braking. In a straight line, the softer the springs, the more the suspension will absorb bumps allowing the tires to stick to the road surface better.

    DOWNFORCE:
    The front and rear wings allow the car to stick to the road thanks to the downforce that they generate. This allows the car to grip better in the bends by increasing the vertical load, but also lower the straight line speed by provoking a drag effect.

    Downward force: A wing, when placed in a relative wind (ie. wind generated by the cars displacement againsts its environment) will create a downward force which increases the vertical load, planting the car more firmly to the ground with greater effectiveness as it goes faster.

    Vertical load: The vertcal load is the total of all vertical pressures supported by the car. The vertical load has a major influence on a cars behaviour. The greater the force on suspension, the more this will be passed onto the tires. So as a general rule, the greater the vertical load, the more the car will stick to the road.

    Wing angles: This is the angle that the wing makes against the airflow. The larger the angle, the larger the downforce (grip/vertical load) the more the car will grip the road but the drag factor effect increases (slower acceleration and top end speed). In the areodynamic setup, it is the angle that is adjusted.
    The front and rear angles are important to get the car balanced and adjustments (however small) may correct over/under steer. This is considered as a fine art in gettin the car to run at its highest performance.

    RIDE HEIGHT:
    This is the height between the car and the ground and is measured from the front and rear axis. Ride height affects car behaviour by lowering the center of gravity making the car pitch and roll less in the corners. Lower the car ride height in order to raise downforce without increasing the drag factor and to make the car more nimble (responsive) when entering corners, changing direction and braking. Raise the ride height to stop the car from bottoming out (underside of the car hits the ground) or alternatively stiffen the spring rate in the suspension and adjust the bump stops.

    TOE:
    Toe is the inclination between the wheels and the vertical axis. The front wheels form a "v" shape towards the rear of the car. The rear wheels form a "v" shape in a negative direction. Adjusting the toe will change the reaction time of the wheels. It also increases the angle of the front wheel to slow the cars reaction or increases the the angle of the rear wheels to help stabilise the car. The greater the toe is the faster the wheels will wear out.

    CAMBER:
    The camber is the inclination between the wheel and the vertical direction. Adjusting this parameter can attain better wheel position when you are cornering so that as much as possible of the wheel surface is in contact with the road surface thus enabling grip. An improper camber setting will wear out the tyres at a faster rate than anticipated.

    BRAKE BALANCE
    Brake balance is the ratio between the front and the rear braking force. If the balance is badly set the four wheels will not brake at their maximum potential. If you are having difficulty breaking in a bend (understeer) apply more bias to the rear The opposite applys to a car that oversteers ie set the bias towards the front.

    GEAR RATIOS:
    The gearbox ratios must be adjusted in order to adapt to each distinct circuit layout.Adjusting 7th gear sets the cars maximum speed, a long ratio will mean a faster straight line speed but it takes longer to reach it. A shorter gear ratio will enhance acceleration but will have a weaker top end speed.
    After setting 7th gear ratio, adjust 1st gear ratio for the slowest bend. Then, and only then, start spacing out gears 2,3,4,5,6.

    I hope this guide can help people understand (that don't alread know this) a little better of what a formula 1 car is and how it works.

    I already posted this to apple's support form. I'm wondering if anybody else is having the same problem as me.

    I recently upgraded to MS2 on my macbook. I had been using MS1 for a fairly complex virtual instrument rig for live work with a Pink Floyd tribute band.

    So far every time I've launched MS2, it eventually becomes unresponsive to notes played. If a note sounds at all, it is several seconds late - perhaps 10 seconds. This is hard to time, because sometimes notes don't sound at all. It remains unresponsive like this for a period of time (perhaps 1-5 minutes) and then typically "comes back".

    The last time it did this, I was playing a part that included both notes and pitch bend movements for an EXS24 instrument. It seemed like it may have stuck on a pitch bend movement.

    This is a 2.16Ghz macbook (fall 2007) with 4GB RAM (it can use 3.3 of this), with an Apogee duet and a Novation Remote Zero as control surface and midi input from a Yamaha S90 keyboard. Samples are on an external USB2 drive.

    Thanks,
    John

    DB:3.09:Ms2 Long Delay Responding To Notes Played fk

    I don't know --- I was never able to rely on MS 1 and had stopped using it. My hope was (and still is) that MS 2 has addressed all the MS 1 issues. I didn't even bother trying to import MS 1 concerts after trying it once and getting a crash soon thereafter.

Any idea what I can do to figure out what the 'feedback' command is, and how I can prevent it? Many of the voices in Logic are not useable for me because of this feedback.

However, when importing I'm left with only the first channel's worth of pitch bend data, or at least only that visible in the note editor. Thanks in advance for any help.

    DB:2.86:Pitchbend And Other Control Events Not Being Displayed zd

    I have a bunch of projects created with Software instruments exclusively. All started out as MIDI files that I imported with previous versions of GB.

    My problem is, since upgrading to GB 08, that NONE of the control events are visible anymore: Pitch Bend, Modulation, Expression... NADA. They were all visible in previous versions. I upgraded to GB '08 from GB3, but GB2 showed all the MIDI events as well.

    i.e. I can select a track that I know has pitch bend (guitar track) and even though I can definitely hear the pitch bend, there is nothing displayed in the editor window in pitch bend mode. I have even cycled through all the other modes just to make sure, and there is nothing.

    Can anyone tell me if there is a special way to display pitch bend, or other events from a imported midi file?

    Thanks

    Hello everyone, I just started using garageband and have a coupe simple questions about the pitch.
    when you change the pitch does it effect the whole song??
    say if i recorded a C major chord with a keyboard and if i changed the pitch to F major, would it change the C major to a F major chord??
    Or say i recorded a vocal track and sang in the key of C major and changed the pitch/key to F major would it change my vocal track and make it sound as if i was singing in the key of F major??

    Please help
    Thanks

    DB:2.86:Pitch Question sp

    there is no way if i where to record live instruments or vocals it could change the pitch of them...or else garage band would be incredible!!

    GB can change pitch, just not with the Master Pitch curve. as CD mentioned, open the track editor and use the Region Pitch control

    Have you already checked your preferences to insure your macbook is selected as your input device? Are you sure your keyboard isn't trying to play very high or very low octaves of where the instrument normally plays? Check the keyboard at higher and lower octave ranges.
    I find that most problems I have with midi keyboards are solved by closing Logic and restarting the computer.

    hello,
    i just purchased the m-audio *keystation 61es* keyboard and want to utilize the *pitch bend* on it so i can do short portementos with garage band software instruments. Anyone know how to do it? I know both the keyboard and garage band allow pitch bend but i cant figure out how to set up the keyboard as the manual seems to be written for the upscale keyboard with the digital numeric window and all the other buttons for setting.
    If nothing else, it seems *garage band allows you to adjust the pitch bend in the track editor* for an individual track. i tried to follow the garage band help instructions but when attempting to adjust a single note in the editor there is nothing to click on to set the key point perameters.

    Hi folks,I have a simple patch for my EFM-1 and I want to apply a pitch bend in Mainstage. It is presently set up to go a whole step up or down when the pitch bend is pushed all the way up (or down). I probably set it up that way.....but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it, or how to change it. For this particular patch, I need the pitch bend to go an octave. Where do I set this usually easy-to-find parameter? Is there a global setting? (It seems to be set for a whole step for all patches). A setting within the EFM-1?Thanks!-Mike Kaplan

    DB:2.66:How Do I Set The Range Of Pitch Bend For The Efm-1? 7k

    Yeah, I think there is no such parameter for the EFM1! Surprising. I thought it should still be possible in Mainstage to do this by reassigning the pitch wheel directly to one of the oscillator parameters within the EFM1, but no luck.Anyway, as a workaround, I made a similar sound in the ES2, which DOES have control of the pitch bend input. Luckily the sound itself was easy to recreate- I just needed a sound with 5 or 6 harmonic partials and no modulation.

When you select a bend line and try to type in a bend angle other than 90, Inventor crashes. We are using a work around that involves entering the bend angle prior to selecting the bend line and it works for all bend angles of 30 degrees and greater. Any angles less than 30 degrees causes Inventor to crash. I've been able to reproduce this error with the Inventor bend table, the k factor and our SPI bend table. I have multiple CAD users experiencing this problem now. Is anyone else having this problem and If so, is there a fix for this problem?

    DB:2.63:Unwanted Messages/Events At The End Of A Midi Loop zf

    We came across a serious bug (it is serious for our product) when using the javax.sound.midi.Sequencer to loop a MIDI file. Basically we do this:
    sequencer.setLoopStartPoint(0);
    sequencer.setLoopEndPoint(1920);
    sequencer.setLoopCount(Sequencer.LOOP_CONTINUOUSLY);If we connect the sequencer to a hardware MIDI device the loop playback sounds broken. There is a considerable delay every time it loops. This does not happen with the Java Sound Synthesizer. Unfortunately, we can not use it. We need to address external devices.

    We tried to use a virtual MIDI cable (for example "LoopBe Internal MIDI") to get a dump of the MIDI output. The output can be seen below. There are two problems:

    *1st*, we do not want the All Notes Off messages. It seems these messages are created for every channel where notes are played before (we played some notes on channel 0 and 1 in this example). But we want all notes to continue playing at the end of the loop. How to get rid of the "All Notes Off" messages?

    *2nd*, we do not want all the Pitch Bend and Sustain Pedal messages. The messages seem to confuse hardware synthesizers in some way. Additionally, the messages are useless because we don't use Pitch Bend or Sustain Pedal at all in the loop.

    Example output (the first two table columns show the MIDI ticks and the channel number):
    ...
    3447000, 9, Note OffThis was the last expected "Note Off" message from the loop. From this point, all messages seen here are not intended to be send. Were do they come from? (It's not the MIDI file we are using. The same happens with an empty sequence.) How to get rid of them?

    Hi,I am facing a problem with the bend defomer. I personaly think it was a bug in Bend deformer. If anybody have any solution please reply. 1. Import a model which uses a bend deformer.2. Duplicate the model #40;duplicate special- copy input graphs enabled#41;3. Adjust the highBound of bend on the new copy4. Select and translate the original model #40;top node#41;5. The bend changes on the original model, even though no highboundadjustment has been made#41; Thank you,Sujith

    DB:2.62:How Do I Edit Pitch Bend Midi Data? 9j

    I have used the pitch bend wheel on my external keyboard while recording to bend the pitches of the samples on the EXS24. Is it possible to edit this MIDI data in Logic? I can't seem to find it in any track automation or in the matrix edit window. Editing the data in the event list window seems like a disaster (or maybe it's not that bad and I just don't know how to do it).

    What I would like is to be able to apply pitch bend using a similar interface as track automation, being able to create points and curves and what not. That would be ideal. Any thoughts on the matter? Thanks.

    I have programmed my VMK using key commands to control Logic's transport functions. I hadn't noticed before, but the pitch bend now causes Logic to play. I initialized all key commands, but the problem remains. Also, the pitch bend doesn't respond to programming within the VMK. If I can perhaps change the command from pitch bend to something else, that may be a good troubleshooting route. Any ideas?

    Hey I really need some help guys...I have a plane that is moving along a path using Path Deform. At a certain point I want the plane to roll up into a pipe shape, while still moving forward.I don't know how to do this! I'm using Bend to get the pipe shape, but the problem is getting it to bend progressively as it moves along the path.I've tried Bend Space Warp and using Volume Select plus Bend but it's not working right.It's like I need a tool that will allow me to select a volume in any space and add a modifier to it. Then when the plane enters the space it will conform to the modifier, in this case Bend.Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. And if you need more explanation or some pics, I'll happily do that.Cheers everyone!

    DB:2.60:How Can I Set Up A Mainstage Channel Strip To Recognize Coarse Detune? js

    Can anyone clue me in on how to get Mainstage 2 to recognize coarse detune? Right now I have it set up so that a mainstage channel strip recognizes standard pitch bend messages and I can set the pitch bend range of the associated instrument to 12 (the default for the channel strips appears to be 2), and so standard pitch bend works fine. But when the pitch bend messages I'm sending are coarse detune, I'm getting zip...nada...nuttin -- even when I have set the pitch bend range for the instrument on the channel strip set to 12. I don't want to just offset the pitch by a set amount; I want to use coarse detune to bend the pitch by semitones during a performance. If anyone here has any suggestions or knows how to make this happen, I'd really appreciate your help -- thanks in advance, Lipp

    DB:2.60:How Can I Set Up A Mainstage Channel Strip To Recognize Coarse Detune? js

    HiThere seems to be some confusion here??MIDI Coarse and Fine Tuning messages are MIDI Registered Parameter Numbers (RPN's). Are you expecting Logic/MS Instruments to respond to these messages?Are you expecting MS to 'convert' incoming Pitch Bend messages to these RPN's?If yes, I think you are barking up the wrong tree...Try mapping a control slider/knob DIRECTLY to the Coarse/Fine tuning parameters within the plugin.You may need to make a new knob in Layout mode and MIDI Learn it to incoming MIDI PB messages.I have tried this method and it works (if I correctly understand what you are trying to do?).CCT

    I use Logic for making midi music for computer games. I have one tune where I use pitch bend with a fiddle. The final midi file plays well on my Mac (Quicktime) but on some windows computers it doesn't. In Logic I use an environment where the midi is played by the quicktime instruments, just to be sure I get the right general midi sounds (yes, they sound always different on different synths/wavetables, but good enough). The problem is that when I place the pitchbend events in Logic (I draw them there with the hyperedit functions) so that it sounds good, the pitch bend events in the event list seem to be late. And if i move them earlier, they don't sound right anymore in Logic (or the Quicktime player), but they get right on a Win machine (Winamp or Windows media player).

    As I see it, Winows is right here and Quicktime is wrong. Are events like pitch bend known to time shift like this on different systems/drivers/whatever? Like you need some latency settings for different systems and different midi events, to ensure the time code in the midi event can be reliable.

    DB:2.57:Bend Modifier: Plane To Sphere x8

    I'd like to use the bend modifier to transform a square plane into a sphere with a diameter equal to the side length of the original plane (to reproduce the approach for UV mapping a sphere described here).

    I've been able to bend a vertical, square plane into something very close to a sphere using two bend modifiers (the first bending the x axis by 180 degrees with a direction of 0 degrees and the second bending the y axis by 360 degrees with a direction of 90 degrees). It's necessary to move the center of the second bend modifier to obtain a sphere.

    However, there are two problems with the result: the diameter of the sphere is not equal to the side length of the initial plane and it's difficult to position the center of the second bend modifier such that the sphere doesn't have holes at its poles.

    The first problem occurs because (as far as I can tell) the bend modifier assigns its gizmo an initial scaling such that the object to which the bend modifier is being applyed is bent but not stretched. This is reasonable default behaviour and applying an FFD 2x2x2 modifier after the first bend modifier allows the (now bent) plane to be scaled such that the height of the sphere that ultimately results equals the side length of the initial plane. However, when the second bend modifier is applied, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to precisely position its center such that the sphere's width equals its height (the next step would be to weld the vertices at the two poles). This is also the cause of the second problem since positioning the bend modifier's center correctly would also remove the holes at the poles.

    I've attached a max file (in a zip file) for reference (also see the left-to-right sequence in the image below):

    - Plane001 is the initial square plane

    - Plane002 is after the first bend modifier has been applied

    - Plane003 is after adjustments have been made with the FFD modifier

    - Plane004 is after the second bend modifier has been applied

    - Plane005 is after the center of the second bend modifier has been adjusted.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    DB:2.56:How Do You Pitch Bend Without A Controller Or A Wheel? kz

    Hi,
    I'm new to Logic LE9 and I'm trying to create the effect of a slide on a midi bass line. All I want to do is slide from A to B. I've looked everywhere on the internet for advice and it looks like one place to do it is in the hyper editor.

    But once in there, I can't work out exactly what to do. I've located the note, I know that I need to draw some bars in the Pitch lane above the note, but I don't know how the numbers correspond to the notes when I'm drawing the bars.

    If I had a pitch wheel on my keyboard or a bass, this wouldn't be a problem, so I spose I'm asking, how do you do it manually?

    Thanks...

    DB:2.56:How Do You Pitch Bend Without A Controller Or A Wheel? kz

    Thanks for the reply, I've found the Hyper draw function in the piano roll which is a bit easier to get my head around.

    But I still have one more question, for the values 0-127 in pitch, and if a value of 64 is the un-bent note, would a value of 127 represent two semi-tones above? It sounds like it could be, but it would be good to know what these values represent.

    DB:2.56:Affecting All Audio With Slow Motion But Can't Reset To Original Pitc dc

    Its hard to pin down your problem, because the code looks way too complicated to me for what it's doing, so I slapped this together. It currently uses the mouse wheel to dynamically control the pitch, but you can easily change it back to using a button.

    AudioPitchController.cs

    using UnityEngine;
    using System.Collections;

    public class AudioPitchController : MonoBehaviour
    {
    public delegate void PitchChange(float value);
    public static event PitchChange OnPitchChange;

    private float lastPitch;

    void Update()
    {
    float pitch = Input.GetAxis(Mouse ScrollWheel);
    if (pitch != lastPitch)
    {
    lastPitch = pitch;
    if (OnPitchChange != null)
    OnPitchChange(pitch * Time.deltaTime);
    }
    }
    }

    AudioPitchModifier.cs

    using UnityEngine;
    using System.Collections;

    [RequireComponent(typeof(AudioSource))]
    public class AudioPitchModifier : MonoBehaviour
    {
    const float PITCH_LIMIT = 3;

    void OnEnable()
    {
    AudioPitchController.OnPitchChange += HandleOnPitchChange;
    }

    void OnDisable()
    {
    AudioPitchController.OnPitchChange -= HandleOnPitchChange;
    }

    void HandleOnPitchChange (float value)
    {
    audio.pitch = Mathf.Clamp(audio.pitch + value, -PITCH_LIMIT, PITCH_LIMIT);
    }
    }

    DB:2.56:Affecting All Audio With Slow Motion But Can't Reset To Original Pitc dc

    I would think the issue comes from your update. You are calling a new coroutine each frame. You should use a boolean to get only one call:

    bool isSlow = false;

    void Update ()
    {
    if(!isSlow)
    {
    StartCoroutine(GetPitch);
    isSlow = true;
    }
    }

    Then wherever you stop the slow effect you set isSlow back to false when getting back to normal speed.

    I would think you need to modify your scripts in a way that new audio sources are taken care as well. I mean that if during slow motion you create a new sound then it won*t be affected so you need to make it in a way that when creating new ones, they check the value of that boolean and change their pitch in accordance.

    DB:2.56:Re: Sheet Metal Bend Limitations 87

    I played with this a little bit, and I ran into the same problems. It looks
    like we are running into problems with the small surfaces that are created
    for the bend zone. I was able to get close to what you need by initially
    creating the bend at 2 degrees and .015 bend radius. I could then reduce the
    bend angle to .4 degrees and then the bend radius to .005. It seems that it
    is easier to reduce existing surfaces than to create them from scratch.

However when I record it and play it back, it only changes the pitch by a little bit, completely taking away the wails that I heard when recording. DB:2.54:How To Slide Between Different Notes/Pitches In Midi? 3x

    I'm trying to achieve a portamento effect where I can slide between different notes (like pitch bending but on a large scale). The closest I've gotten is using the setPitchBend() method in MidiChannel. However, this only allows a range of 2 semitones from the note I started with. Is there another way to achieve this portamento effect, or maybe changing the pitch bend range?

    DB:2.54:How To Slide Between Different Notes/Pitches In Midi? 3x

    I'd assume you'd want to set the sequence to "slur" notes and then just calculate the notes between a top bottom value based on a float and generate NOTE_ON messages appropriately.

    The pitch bend is designed to emulate / support the bend wheel found on sound keyboards...and it just modifies the pitch associated with a given note. A pitch bend of +2 would turn an A into B, etc...

    So, you'd want to do...

    SET_SLUR (however you do that, I'm not a MIDI expert)
    pitch = bottom_pitch + ((top_pitch-bottom_pitch) * sliderValue);
    NOTE_ON(pitch)

    Ive tried to transpose a song (the pitch is too high) for quite a while now. After saving the project, importing an audio-file and saving once again I try to change the pitch of the audio in pitch and time machine. But the pitch never changes, even when Im just prelistening. Ive tried with several audiofiles, but the same thing happens with all of them....which actually means nothing happens.

    Has anybody had the same problem? Or most important: Can anybody help me with this problem?

    Please note that that you adjust the pitch in CENTS, meaning that if you want to transpose a minor third down you need to enter -300, not -3 like you might think.

    Hi - I'm using GarageBand 2 with an M-Audio 88es. It works great, but I've hit a brick wall with trying to program the pitch bend on the thing! Has anybody else had any success with this?

    FYI, it says in the manual 'by assigning function 128 to either the Modulation Wheel or the Volume Slider you can alter the Pitch Bend function up to one octave'. All well and good, but it doesn't say how to alter the pitch bend function once you've done this.

    Anyone else had any more success here? It's driving me nuts!

    Ok! This is the easiest way to make a pitched roll for Dirty South Hip-Hop beats. First, setup your roll in UltraBeat. Make it a couple patterns for 1/32 resolution. Pull those patterns to a track with Exs24 preloaded or load Exs24 after (It doesnt matter). Then, on UB hit Fullview to get to the Sample editor if you're in the pattern editor. On the bottom left you'll see a waveform. Click on the down arrow directly above it and to the left of the wav's title. It will drop down menu. Highlight "Show in Finder." The finder will open with the wav you chose highlighted. Keep that window off to the side. Click the Exs24 track and double Click Exs24 on the left side menu above the Channel Mixer. Hit edit to the top-right on the Exs24. Drag the Sample wave from the Finder window to the Edit window in the Exs24. Now, Unclick PITCH under the playback tab in the edit window. (Or you can change the key range but forget that for now.) Back to the patterns you created. Hit Hyper Editor and unclick auto define and fixed value on the left menu. Lastly, on status click pitch bend. Pencil tool and draw the pitch bend inside the Pitch Bend labeled channel. Hit space to play and you're done. You can Line Tool, also. Remember, once this is setup you can duplicate the Exs24 track and click and drag differnet patterns to the tracks or add different samples to the Exs24's. For example, snares on one channel toms on another and so on and so forth. Play around with this.

It sounds as if the characters sucked on a touch of helium before doing the movie. I don't know if this is a function of the iPod not liking my movie format, or if it's a problem with the source converter. The video files play fine when not converted, though. I'm just wondering if there's some special setting I need to apply to the converter or to my iPod to prevent it from happening.

    Before anyone asks, yes the sound is still in sync with the video, and I'm using WInAVI converter to do my conversions. Any help would be great or I have to walk around with Dr. Cox sounding like a pre-pubescent intern.

    It's unbelievable! I just spent overhalf and hour searching first in Office help and then googling around to figure out, how to add or remove bend points on curved connectors in Visio 2010, but I found nothing that works! There a few places suggesting
    to use shift, ctrl or both combined while clicking on an existing bend point, but thatdoesn't work! Neither does right-clicking nor double clicking (I also tied that with allmodifier keys and combinations thereof).
    But IMHO it MUST be somehow possible to add or a remove a bend-point, isn't it? Especially, since some of my connectors show one, some two and others 4 bend points. Some of my lines with one bend point only look ugly, so I need to add one more bend there.
    Mostlines with 4 bend points also look ugly (one even has a loop!), so there I need to remove one or more of the superflous bend-points.

    But I can't find a way to control these. What drove the creators of Visiotomake this so complicatedand hidden?

    DB:2.52:Visio 2010 How To Add And Remove Bend Points On Curved Connectors 8p

    I've got some Visio diagrams made with an older version than 2010, which I'm using now. These diagrams contain connectors that don't have mid-point bends - they only bend at the text box! The method discribed here has no effect on these connectors. I'm
    assuming they're some type of "legacy" connector, as instead of being able to change them from straight to curved to right-angle connectors, I have a single option to "Set as straight line" (though strangely, selecting that option has NO effect on these curved
    connectors).

    No matter what I record, trying to lay down an acoustic guitar track using the macs mic as a test, when I come to play back the track after recording, its always in a different pitch/key. I know garageband wants me to specify I pitch, but I dont want to! Why does it keep trying to change the pitch of the audio Im recording? Its doing it for vocals as well, coming up much lower or higher than what i recorded.
    No matter what pitch I try putting the project as, Ive tried all, it NEVER comes up the same as what I originally recorded.
    Any help would be great.

    DB:2.51:How Do You Quantize Midi Data Like Pitch Bend ? j3

    If you record a keyboard part with some pitch bent notes and modulation, how do you quantize so that the midi data moves with the notes? I cannot find an easy way to do this. Obviously it's hard to tell where continuous midi data starts and where it ends, but if you are pitch bending a note - could it not cut the midi data for pitch bend at the start and end points of that note, and move it with the note when the note is quantized?

    There is an option to have non-note data quantized, but it quantizes every point in the hyper draw to a blocky mess - it does not move the chunk of data relative to the note.

    This seems like a very simple and desirable thing to do?
    Have the midi data performance move with quantized notes.
    Right now, if you quantize a performance that has pitch bend and modulation - you ruin the performance because the notes move, but not the pitch bend and modulation.

    Any tips?

    Scott.

    DB:2.51:How Do You Quantize Midi Data Like Pitch Bend ? j3

    You say that in the hyper editor, quantizing pitch bend was a breeze?
    How so?

    If you have a nice pitch bend curve with 30 point on it, and then quantize - those points move to square positions that are unrelated to the start of the note - it does not quantized relative to the start and end points of the note. The note moves, and the pitch changes are now not 'under' the note anymore - although they are in some strange sense "quantized".

    The only work around I have found, is to open up the event list, and create a pitch bend 'event' at the same point in the bar as my note is on, then another pitch bend event somewhere after my note ends. Then after I quantize the note - I go into the hyper editor, and select all the points in the range that were 'under' the original note, and slide them. I then quantize by hand in the event list, because I know that first point was under the note start point, I select all the points and edit the first one so that it's new start point is in the notes' new quantized location. Then my pitch shift is where it should be relative to the note.

    This works, but boy is it a laborious task for something that seems many keyboard players would want to do easily on a regular basis. Quantize your performance, not just your notes.

    Hi new poster here (but been around a while),

    I tend to use this 'djay' program for working songs out by ear because its great for marking specific parts for repeats and you can slow down/pitch change for any tricky bits if you really need to. I've just been doing this today fine working with iTunes in the background to learn a Tom Waits track, but when I fire djay up, Mainstage goes horribly (around a semitone) out of tune! The only fix is to close djay and then restart Mainstage. It is definitelt MS that's out of tune (not djay/itunes) but the pitch wheel and tuning in preferences are both centered so I can't work this out. Using MS 1.02 on Mbook pro 2.4 duo under 10.5.8.

    Any ideas? Cheers.

    DB:2.51:Algoriddim Djay Knocks My Ms Out Of Tune When I Open It! c1

    Come to think of it though - it shouldn't let the tuning be effected by sample rate - middle C should be middle C no matter what the sampling rate in a musical instrument surely (I know it effects pitch of recorded material of course)? I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but this can't make sense can it? It implies different tunings all over the place, which can't be right.... or am I missing something?!

    for the v1 sensor you can use either. The v1 sensor is not going to give you rotation around the bone like the v2 sensor does. From your video it looks like you already have the rotations required to translate the joints in their correct orientation.

    Have a look at the avateering sample to see what rotation data you can achieve. Anything more than that you will have to use v2.Carmine Sirignano - MSFT

    What you're saying to do is to model the finished part
    instead of taking the flat and molding it into the finished part, correct?

    Yes.

    The current Inventor Sheet Metal environment is intended to model the folded
    part. It is not intended to start with a flat and fold your way through to

    I never did figure this out. It was something to do with the track (imported from midi). I'd add a new note in the same place, it had the same problem, and shifting notes around, the bend stayed in the same place.

    I "fixed" it by creating a new track, splitting the old track into 3 regions - before, during, and after. I copied the before and after regions from the old track to the new, and just entered the notes of "during" by hand...

With the 3.XX upgrade, we get an additional library of drum kits. Does anyone know: Is there any way to load the new drum kits and still access the pitch bend parameters of the EXS editor? With the new 3.0 drums, I can only get/see the new interface showing a drum kit set up on a rug...If i try to access any new drum kits through the EXS, sampler, I can't find the new kits anywhere...Also, the drum kits and the image show one drum configuration w. 1 bass drum, 1 tom, and a couple floor toms. Is there any way to add cymbals, toms, cowbell, etc... or am I completely misunderstanding the new UI? thx in advance for any help -- lipp

    Hey CCT! -- Thanks so much -- it's working great...and thanks for the drum kit configuration clarification...I do have another question about drums and damping that you may be able to answer, but I'll post it as a new topic, since others may not see it buried here --thanks again for your help and have a great holiday -- Lipp

    DB:2.49:Using Garritan Jabb With Logic 8 And Keystation Pro zc

    Anyone out there using Garritan Jazz Big Band? I can't get any vibrato even though I'm moving the vibrato dial on the screen (this goes for "lite" as well as the regular instruments")

    is there some toggle i'm forgetting to use? I do get flutter...

    right now pitch bend works, and the mod wheel controls volume.... do i have to assign that wheel or some other dial on my controller to make the other stuff work?

    DB:2.49:Using Garritan Jabb With Logic 8 And Keystation Pro zc

    yes, but H O W to program/ use all those ccs?

    noone tells you HOW.

    what is that process? what do i press? where is the menu? is this a logic thing or a JABB thing?

    DB:2.48:Re: Bend Part Doesn't Work With Thread Feature Present js

    I've attached an example of a workflow we use to make different instances of products.

    part1 gets assembled in assembly1 which then gets derived in part2 to receive a bend.

    We use assembly1 in one place and part2 in another.

    (this is a simplified example, made with IV2013 SP1.1)

    Now for the problem:

    In part1, if you add the thread feature, the "bend part" feature in part2 fails after updating.

    This also happens if you try to add a "bend part" to part1 AFTER the thread feature, if the bend is present beforehand it does work.

    Having the bend before the thread feature in part1 doesn't work with our workflow, because we need the assembly1 to be straight.

    In short, the thread feature is causing problems with "bend part".

    I can't say if this problem was present in previous versions or even in the previous service pack since we don't use this workflow that often, especially with threaded parts, but i hope this can get fixed with a hotfix.

    DB:2.48:Re: Bend Part Doesn't Work With Thread Feature Present js

    Hi niels,

    Many thanks for posting this issue, and apologies for not responding to this sooner!

    I've taken a look at our problem database, and this doesn't appear to be an issue we've seen before. I've logged this as issue 1478607 and assigned this to the development team, so hopefully we can look into getting this fixed for a future release.

    The problem only appears to affect non-Full Length threads, so an alternative workaround I can offer for this model is to split the part face at the point where the thread should terminate, and then perform a Full Length thread on the split face (see attachment). This allows the Bend to compute successfully, and this should also allow you to annotate the drawing correctly.

    If this doesn't work for your workflow, let me more details and I'll try to offer further assistance.

    Thanks!

    Jake

    DB:2.48:Re: Can't Flat Pattern With Desired Bend Radius a3

    IV11
    The flat pattern tool either locks up my computer or leaves bends instead of flattening on parts that I should have no trouble flattening. Will create some flat patterns when I increase the bend radius, but I haven't had to do this before (I usually draw .05 thk with .007 bend radius) It seems installing Service Packs maybe created this problem and hot fixes didn't help. Sitting dead in water.

    Go ahead and start a new thread if you can't figure it out. Are you using the web browser or newsreader?

    DB:2.48:Roland Pc 180 Midi Controller Pitch Bend Not Working mf

    How do I get my Roland Pc 180 midi controller keyboard pitch bend to work in Garageband?

    I'm using a Fasttrack pro interface into my G5 mac.

    Thanks.

    DB:2.48:Roland Pc 180 Midi Controller Pitch Bend Not Working mf

    You got it. Pianos and Organ's for instance, do not have pitchbend in real life, so they don't in MIDI either (would be fun,though)

    I've been experiencing pitch bend issues where the note doesn't reset to the original pitch. I first assumed it was my keyboard (Alesis QS 7.1) but now I'm experiencing the same problem with my Roland Ax1. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

    DB:2.47:Evolution Mk449c Mod Wheel Problem With Logic Pro/Vsl Performance Tool 87

    I'm using the latest version of Logic Pro on a new Intel Mac Pro. My controller keyboard is the Evolution MK449C, connected via a USB cable.

    When using a Logic Audio Instrument assigned to the ESX Sampler Plug-in (running various samples, mostly from the Vienna Symphonic Library,) Logic's Transport Window doesn't register any modulation information generated from my keyboard.
    As the VSL Performance Tool relies heavily on the Mod Wheel info to effect the sounds, I'm at a bit of a loss to spot the solution. When I assign a different conroller to the Mod Wheel, i.e. volume, pan, pitch bend, etc., I can see the info in the Transport Window with no problem, so I know the wheel itself is working okay.
    Has either Logic or the ESX got some kind of controller filter, - maybe I've accidently turned something on that cuts out any incoming modulation. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    DB:2.47:When Recording The Pitchbend Works But When I Play It Back It Doesn't! mm

    Hello everybody!

    I have some problems with recording samples when I bend the pitch.
    I chop samples up and put them in my on screen keyboard.
    When I record I often pitch bend these samples to fit the tone or bpm.
    But when I play back the pitch seems unchanged.
    It doesn't happen all the time so it's really annoying cause I don't know
    what I'm doing wrong or right!
    Please help me!
    Thanx!

    DB:2.47:When Recording The Pitchbend Works But When I Play It Back It Doesn't! mm

    just figured it out by accident (i think)

    when you record with pitchbend (i did with a midi controller) open the edit track with the scissor button

    in that click the pulldown-bar where it says view, and select pitchbend

    i didn't have to touch anything in there, but once i selected it, my playback recognized it

    hope this helps!
