DB:3.58:Unable To Connect To Cifs Host - Network Printer Problems 79

I keep getting this message "Unable to connect to CIFS host..." when I try printing from my macbook to both wireless network printers in my house. One printer is a Canon MP620 that is located near my laptop. The other is an HP in the other room. I tried rebooting the network and the Canon printer to no effect. My husband's pc in the other room can print wirelessly to both printers. So it's definitely a problem with the macbook. What can I do?

DB:3.58:Unable To Connect To Cifs Host - Network Printer Problems 79

With regards to the Canon MP620, it sounds like you have added the printer queue incorrectly. As Greg said, the error relates to connecting to a Windows shared resource using the CIFS/SMB protocol. The only way this printer would appear as a Windows printer would be from you trying to connect to the printer share via the husbands PC - or - you are trying to mount the memory card slot of the printer.

To add the Canon printer that is configured as a wireless device to your Mac, you need to open Print Fax, click to Add and then select More Printers Canon IJ Network. The printer name followed by its MAC address (a set of two numbers separated by a colon) should appear in this view and when you select it and click Add, a new printer queue will be added to your Printers list. If you now try to print you should not get the CIFS error.

As a relative Mac newbie, I am seeking assistance with getting my network printer to cooperate with my new MacBook Pro!

I have a Canon MF4680 attached to an 8 port Netgear switch. The printer is accessible from my Windows workstation. I have now connected a MacBook Pro to the same switch and want to be able to print to the Canon from the Mac.

First I went to the Canon web site and downloaded the latest UFR II Printer Driver V1.70 for MacOSX. I then installed the driver on the Mac.

Then I went into System Preferences, Print Fax and proceeded to add a printer. I chose IP - Internet Printing Protocol, typed the IP address of the printer, but couldn't find anything suitable in the list of Canon printers under the list of drivers.

Moving thepaper thickness lever on the printer to the right position when printing envelopes (see depiction below) should resolve the issue you are experiencing. Be sure to return the paper thickness lever to the left position after printing the envelopes to ensure that you don't experience smearing when printing on plain paper.

DB:3.21:Intermittent Print/Scan Problems With Canon Mf8380cdw On Wireless Network m3

For nearly a year now, I've experienced problems printing and scanning using the Canon MF8380Cdw on our network. The most troubling are the intermitent problems getting the printer to respond during a print job after the device has been found on the network. Less troubling but still annoying are the problems scanning: it's very difficult to initiate a scan job. It usually requires trying to initiate the job from the printer AND from the computer in quick succession. I have reinstalled drivers many times. Why isn't printing and scanning effortless?Print sequence messages in the Canon MF8300C Series print manager:Printing - Looking for printer: takes a long time.Printing - Connecting to printer: takes a long time.Printing - The printer is not responding: takes a long time; indicates failure. Some information that may help:The client software correctly identifies the printer's IP address. The wirless router is an Apple Airport Extreme Basestation. The computer:Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro10,2 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 3 MB Memory: 8 GB Boot ROM Version: MBP102.0106.B03 SMC Version (system): 2.6f57System Version: OS X 10.8.4 (12E55) Kernel Version: Darwin 12.4.0 Boot Volume: Adrien's Laptop Boot Mode: Normal Computer Name: Adriens MacBook Pro User Name: XXXXX Secure Virtual Memory: Enabled Time since boot: 2:29Canon MF8300C Series driver, version 10.0.0

DB:3.21:Intermittent Print/Scan Problems With Canon Mf8380cdw On Wireless Network m3

The Ethernet solution could be a red herring as you say, especially if Windows computers on the same subnet are not having any connection issues. So why is the Mac's failing to connect to the networked printer? The driver does not cause this loss of connection. If the job was getting to the printer and then failing to print, then you have a driver issue. But with the Mac stating that it cannot connect to the printer, you then have a network issue. This is also confirmed by the extract from the CUPS error log.One suggestion for when a print job stops responding is to use Network Utility to ping the MF ip address or use Safari and connect to the MF's internal web page - by typing in the IP address of the MF as the URL. The theory would be that with the print job failing you should also fail to get a ping response or be unable to connect to the internal web page. Also, the statement above about using an alternate driver is confusing. This model only supports the proprietary Canon UFR2 language, so I'm wondering what this "non-UFR II" driver is.

I have a Canon Pixma MP800 printer which scans and photocopies perfectly; however, when it comes to printing, it prints only part of the page on larger documents which have graphics or pictures in them. Occasionally (randomly) it will print the document
perfectly; but most times it will only print part of the page - the part of the document that it prints is perfect, but it will only print say 50% or 75% of the page. I can try and print the same document say 4 times in a row and each time it will print a
different percentage of the document. I have reloaded the updatedCanon Printer Drivers for Vista, but this hasn't solved the problem. Canon tell me there's nothing wrong with the printer, it's a set up problem. Can anyone help?

    DB:3.19:Canon Pixma Mp800 Printing Problems 9f

    Hi Shazzajoy,

Firstly, I would suggest you to use the Fix it tool from the link below to diagnose and repair problems with printing.

    Troubleshoot printer problems

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-printer-problems

Once you run the Fix it Tool, open the Canon printer software and choose the "Properties" or "Options" tab. Click on the option to "Test Alignment" or "Clean Print Heads," depending on which version of the software you are using. Wait for the
printer to finish its alignment and then print off a test page. Check to see if the test page printed properly.

Also try to go to the properties of the local printer and change the spooler setting to have it print directly to the printer. Now check if you’re able to print completely.

If none of the above steps are of any help, try to perform the steps below that involve some registry modification. If the drivers installed are corrupted, then this registry modification will remove it and then try installing the drivers that came along with
    the printer.

    1. Click on Start - in the start search type regedit and hit ok.
    2. Select the folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - ControlSet001 - Control - Print -Environments - Windows NT x86 - Drivers - Version 3

    3. Now delete any folder entries related to the print driver you previously installed.

    4. Now instead of Environments click on the Printers folder and remove the offending printer folder entries from here as well

    5. Exit the Registry Editor.
    6. Restart.

Once you modify the registry, re-load the printer drivers that came along with your printer.

Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a
    problem occurs.

    DB:3.15:Printing Using A Printer Connected To A Router - Ip Printing 9k

    Greetings:

I am trying to assist a friend of mine with a technical problem. Let me first describe the environment:

    - US Robotics MaxG router with wireless network and USB port to plug a printer.
    - MacBook Pro with Tiger 10.4.11
    - Canon MP210 printer.

    Some basics:
    - Printer works fine if attached to USB.
    - Connectivity between MacBook and router is fine - in facts no problems to surf the Internet.

    Problem:
We connected the Canon printer to the USB port on the router. The router configuration software indicated us the printer address: http://192.168.1.1:1631/printer/canon, it also indicates the printer is ready.

On Tiger we used the IP printing to configure. The problem is that there is no clean mention on how to write the address, we tried this:

    - 192.168.1.1:1631
    - 192.168.1.1

Once entered, the printer is all the time off-line - no communication with it.
To further complicate the things, the MP210 driver is never listed in the pulldown menu for available printers, despite the printer package has been installed.

Did anyone come across this problem before?

    Best regards
    Claudio

DB:3.09:Canon I950 Printing Is Faint With Leopard 7p

I have recently upgraded from 10.4.11 on an old Power Mac G4 to 10.5.2 on a new 24" iMac 2.8GHz and I've found that printing to my networked Canon i950 printer is now very faint.

The printer is connected via USB to a Linux server at home running Turboprint and networked using CUPS. The printer has been working 100% with 10.4.11, no problems, always nice and dark printing.

After doing the "BrowseProtocols all" CUPS fix in Leopard, the printer has been working but printing very faintly compared to Tiger.

Yes - I've checked the ink levels!

The printer output is still nice and dark when I print from my old Mac (Tiger 10.4.11) so I know it's not the printer or the server, it's got to be something different with Leopard - but I can't figure out what.

There is no new Canon i950 printer driver available from Canon, their website says that the driver is built into 10.5.x which is fair enough, but their appears to be a problem.

There isn't a ColorSync profile for the printer either - could that be a problem?

Finally, I've tested printing on a Macbook running 10.5.2 and it also is printing faintly so I am convinced that the problem is inherent to Leopard, since I don't have any problems with faint printing with Tiger.

Any pointers on how to fix this or where to look?

DB:3.09:Canon I950 Printing Is Faint With Leopard 7p

Hmm, I've been messing about with CUPS on the Linux server and found something interesting.

What I've found is that it appears that the Mac I have running 10.4.11 is picking up all the print server settings correctly (as shared via CUPS) and changes to them as they happen, while the Mac I have running 10.5.2 is not, it's seems to be stuck in a lower resolution draft mode.

For example, on the Linux server using the CUPS administration page, I set the shared printer to output at 1200 dpi fine quality. The Mac running Tiger picked this up and reported the correct resolution, while the Mac running Leopard did not, it was stuck reporting 600 dpi, the previous setting and didn't change even after deleting the printer and adding it again in the System Preferences.

It took a reboot of the Leopard Machine to pick up on the resolution change, it then reported the correct setting under the printer features.

But even then when I print from the Mac running Leopard, it seems to ignore the new settings and default to the old!

I raised the debug output in the CUPS log on the Linux server and found the following from the machine running 10.5.2 when printing:

    D [19/May/2008:23:44:46 +0930] [Job 1482] argv[0]="i950"

I have a Canon MP150 that I have been using for a few years. My Wifi network consists of a Time Capsule and an Airport Express. The printer is connected to the Airport Express.

I just recently began to have problems. When I try to print, the printer begins then shortly after stops and hangs indefinitely. I have the same problem printing from my iMac and my Macbook.

The strange thing is that when I was testing the set up, I was able to print test patterns from the System Preferences, Print Fax, Options and Supplies menu. When I try to print from any other application it gets stuck.

I have updated the Canon printer driver on both computers.

When I connect the printer to my Macbook directly with a USB cable, it prints perfectly.

Just got a Canon Pro9000 mark ii and I can't get the print colors to match the monitor on my MacBook Pro when printing from Aperture 2.1.4. I'm getting the dreaded "magenta tint" and the printed photos are darker than the screen photo. Perhaps somebody with the same or similar setup can help.

    Here are the facts:

    1. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1. I've installed the new 10.26.0.0 Canon Pro9000ii driver for SL with the appropriate color profiles for various kinds of Canon papers.

    2. My monitor is calibrated using a Spyder Pro2 with ColorEyes Display Pro software.

    3. I use a Nikon D300 and shoot RAW in Adobe RGB. I use Nikon Capture NX2 for PP and save to a TIFF that I then import to Aperture for cataloguing and some additional PP.

    4. I am using Canon Platinum Pro paper, so I use the Canon Pro9000 Mark II series PT1 profile.

    5. I've tried printing in Aperture 2 using both the ColorSync Profile settings "System Managed" and the "Output Profile" PT1. For PT1, I have to uncheck the "Black Point Compensation" box or the thumbnail has a purple cast. The thumbnail looks like the screen photo, but the printed results under either setting (SM or OP) are virtually the same. Curiously, there appears to be no way to turn off printer color management in the dialog box that comes up when you click on "Print Settings" in Aperture.

    6. I've tried printing in Photoshop CS3 using both "No Color Management" and "Photoshop Manages Colors" plus the PT1 profile. When using "Photoshop Manages Colors," the thumbnail on the print page matches the screen colors with the "Working RGB" or "Adobe RGB" profiles, but shows a magenta cast when I select the Canon Pro9000 mark ii PT1 profile. The printed results for "NCM" and for "PMC" with various profiles under the "Printer Profile" tab show the same magenta cast and darkened image.

    7. With CS3, I've been able to access the printer dialogue box and select "Color Matching" and then select "ColorSync" and the PT1 profile instead of "Canon Color Matching." This has the effect of turning off any of the printer's "Color Options."

    8. I've run the printer maintenance utility to ensure that the nozzles are clean and aligned.

There must be something I'm missing here, but I'm not sure what it is. I think the magenta (or red) cast is because both the application and the printer are doing color management, but I've done everything I know to do to turn off printer color management.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

DB:3.03:Canon Printer V.S. Macbook Air xd

Hi,I have had a similar problem with my Canon MF4570dn. While I haven't found a comlete solution to this problem. What I have discovered is that it appears to be an issue with a bad driver from Canon. I have found a similar discussions on Apple Discussion here:https://discussions.apple.com/message/22956795#22956795https://discussions.apple.com/message/23524996#23524996https://discussions.apple.com/message/1640228?searchText=print%20jobs#1640228Here have been my solutions so far:Delete and re-add the printer: didn't fix the problem:Follow the suggestions from Rocket Boy from the last message. Only part of that suggestion made sense for Mavericks. I ended up renaming this directory: /Library/Printers/Canonto/Library/Printers/Canon.orig/then I had to reinstall the drivers from Canon and then re-add the printers. Still I had problems with a Canon IR C5051. My solution was to use the Generic Postscript Drivers. However, I'm not able to do that for my home Canon 4570dn. Since that is a printer using Bonjour, it installs the drivers automatically. I have found that if I just print *one page at a time* then it works. (ugh!) Another data point is that when I have problems printing, the fan kicks on and stays on. The reason for this is there is a process taking greater than 95% of the CPU. To fix this, I open up Activity Monitor, click on CPU and see the top process is xdclfilter and if I try running the print job more than once, I will see multiple runaway processes of xdclfilter. Since your printer is similar to mine, MF4500. Another trick that is similar to removing all the printer is to go to System Preferences-Printers and Scanners. Right click (or control click) on the list of printers and select Reset Printer System. Then you have to re-add the printer or printers. Finally, if you clean out files in /private/var/spool/cups, it appears to help. You will need admin privs to do this, and you need to be careful so don't mess with this unless you feel comfortable. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Sandra,

Thank you so much for your reply and I apologize for the delay in responding to this thread.

This issue usually happens when there are some issues with the printer driver, the printer service is not running or some printer associate system files are damaged.

Since this printer was working fine with your Windows 7 computer and the issue has started very recently, it seems that there could be some issue with the printer service on the computer. Let us restart the services and check the status of this issue.

Start the “Print Spooler” and set the Startup Type as “Automatic”

    Please follow these steps:

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” keys on the keyboard to open the “Run” command box.
b)Type “Services.msc” in the “Run” command box.
c)In the “Services” window, double-click on “Print Spooler” service to open the properties window.
d)Stop the service, if it is already running and then restart the service by clicking on the “Start” button.
e)Now, select “Automatic” from the “Startup type” drop menu.
    f) Click on "Apply” and then “Ok”.
g)Close the “Services” window and restart the computer.
h)After the restart, check if the issue persists.

Please get back to us with the troubleshooting result.

Since upgrading my 2008 MacBook to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago, I've been experiencing problems printing to my Canon MP560. Initially, nothing would print at all, even after updating my drivers, so I uninstalled reinstalled the printer and it seemed fine. Now I've tried to print for the first time out of Adobe Reader. At first, it was trying to force my jobs through the rear tray instead of the main paper cartidge, but I forced it through the cartridge through the print settings. Now when I hit print, the printer starts to receive the data, but the printer queue pops up with a generic "An error occurred while printing" message. The job then sits in limbo on my MacBook and the printer sits waiting to receive data, until I manually delete the job from the queue. I've confirmed that I can print from other apps (Word, Firefox); it's only Adobe Reader that fails me. I've made sure Reader was fully updated (it already had been), and the only Mac software update is the Java update that was just released this week. Ive pulled the plug on the printer to restart it, and I've once again uninstalled reinstalled the printer on my MacBook.Any ideas?

If Canon does not have a Vista Compatible Driver, that is normally the problem.

Canon writes the Drivers for their Products, not Microsoft.

You must be using XP Drivers in your Vista machine.

Sometimes you can be lucky and get away with using XP drivers.

It may be time to upgrade your Printer to a Vista/Windows 7 Compatible Model..

DB:2.99:Canon Mf4370dn -&Nbsp; Having Problems With Network Printing ac

yup. my old inkjet hp multifunction died and i replaced it with this canon, carefully selecting the one that supported "bonjour." i wanted to use it over USB on the airport extreme but i'm getting the same behavior from the printer and from the tech 'support.' at least i know that a router will work.

now some *good news!* i might have a solution to your duplexing problem. the duplex feature was half the reason i got the thing (gotta save those trees!) and i was ready cry when that didn't work, even over direct USB (i could see the option for "2-sided" under "Layout" but it was grayed out). the solution was to set the Page Setup... from Any Printer to the Canon. don't know what would happen with apps that don't have "Page Setup..." like, well . . . My wife's new iMac suddenly will not print to our Canon MP560 wireless printer. My G5 and her old MacBook will print fine to it, so it seems that the problem is not with the printer. I have reinstalled (twice) the software for the printer on her iMac but still it comes up with an error message stating that it cannot print to the Canon (it sees the printer on the wireless network but refuses to print to it). It also has a message inside the print queue box saying to update the software in Software Update. However, the computer and the printer driver software is up to date. When I dig up a USB cable, I will try to print to it the old-fashioned way and see if it will work that way. Any troubleshooting suggestions in the mean time? Thanks in advance.

DB:2.97:Sudden Printing Problems With Imac j8

Hi Roger - the problem was going from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8. That is when all of the printing problems began, as well as the wifi getting flaky. I was able to get the iMac speaking politely to the printer by installing Repair 10.6.8 and re-adding the Canon printer (see below): Printer failureProbably the single most common 10.6.8 problem, at least as evidenced by a massive 17 page thread in Apple Support Communities, is a failure to print. The typical symptom is that the printer driver software pauses, displaying a message that states something like: printer-state-message="/usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed" or /usr/libexec/cups/backend/dnssd failed. Not all printers have this problem, but users report seeing the symptom in a variety of different printers. As is often the case with update-related problems, reinstalling 10.6.8 from the combo updater may eradicate the symptom. Another possible solution is modifying a printer file in the /etc/cups/ppd directory (as detailed in the above-linked thread).Unfortunately, none of these solutions are guaranteed to work. What does reliably fix the problem is to downgrade back to 10.6.7. If youd rather stick with 10.6.8, you can instead downgrade just the quartet of printer-related files that appear to be the root cause of the symptom. These are the socket, dnssd, lpd and ipp files, located in the /usr/libexec/cups/backend directory.A Mac user wrote an application, Repair10.6.8 (direct download link), that automatically downgrades these four files for you. Several users report success with this program. After running the Repair app, you may also need to reset printing system by selecting the command from the contextual menu for the printer name in the Print Fax System Preferences pane.from MacUser 10.6.8. workaround articlehttp://www.macworld.com/article/160993/2011/07/1068_bugs.html#lsrc.nl_mwweek_t_c bstories

I have recently been having problems with my Airport Extreme not assiging ip addresses. Just recently my Canon wireless printer stopped printing wireless. After several attempts to correct it I called Canon and we troubleshooted the printer and found that the printer was seeing the router but the router would not give up and IP address. WE had to manually address the printer and it is working but I have noticed my IP4 will not stay connected to wifi on my network. I will contantly go in and out. I have checked all setting in apple utility and can't find anything wrong. My setup is DSL modem to Aiport then wireless to my Macbook Pro, printer, tv and blueray player. I have the same problem with TV and Blueray constantly losing connection to wifi. Any Ideas??? Could my Apple Extreme be going bad, it is about 2 years old.

How do I set up WIFI printing with the Macbook Pro?

DB:2.96:Wireless Printing With Macbook Pro xd

Actually there is no Wireless printing. The printer is connect to your LAN, whether with a wire (Ethernet) or over the Airways (WiFi), and your computer is connect to that same LAN, whether wired or WiFi, and they talk to each other over the LAN through your router. The Printing part is always the same whether both are using a wireless connection or only one and the other is Wired or none of them are using a WiFi connection and both are Wired to your router and LAN.I know this doesn't really help with your specific problem but I see this posted so much that I just had to reply. But the setup is exactly the same. You are Printing from a computer over a Network to a Networked Printer.Just take the whole WiFi part out of it, it doesn't matter how each device is connected to the network.

DB:2.96:Can't Print Photo Quality On Canon Pixma Ip4200 W/ Cups fp

    Hi,

Just got my MacBook a month or so ago, and have it integrated into my home network. Most everything works fine, but for printing.

I've got a Canon Pixma ip4200 inkjet printer on a Windows XP system, and it's worked fine there for over a year. I tried using the Canon print driver, but of course it wouldn't work over the network -- but it works fine when I plug the USB cable directly into the Mac.

OTOH, when I use the CUPS (5.1.98.2, aka 5.20 beta 2) driver, I run into problems printing photos. I'm mildly annoyed that there is no "borderless printing" with CUPS, but the big problem is that the colors don't come out right.

If I select 600dpi output, the colors are simply very wrong -- brown becomes pink, facial tones are purple, blue is purple, and red is green, just to name a few. Yuk.

If I select 300dpi output, the image is washed out -- like only 1 out of 4 pixels is printing. (Get it? 300x300 vs. 600x600? It's like the driver doesn't increase the pixel or droplet size, just changes the number of pixels within a square inch.)

This sounds somewhat familiar based on other user problem reports, but I've not yet found a solution (my search includes a couple days of searching these forums as well as Googling, and a call to Apple Support, which at least got me to us the Canon drivers with the printer plugged directly into the MacBook).

This was a problem with 10.5.2 and now with 10.5.3, and is independent of the app I use. And yes, I've reset the printing subsystem and recreated the printer, numerous times.

Any ideas on what else to try, or is it that this CUPS driver just can't do photo quality?

    TIA

DB:2.96:Can't Print Photo Quality On Canon Pixma Ip4200 W/ Cups fp

Awesome! That's spot on and solved my problem!

Now I've got to play with the colors, but you nailed it on the head.

    Thanks!

I have a MacBook I bought in October 2008 along with a Canon MX310 Printer. I set them both up with my time machine and everything worked great for a couple of months. I started having problems printing and talked to apple support. We deleted the printer in system preferences - turned off the time machine and set up the printer again in system preferences. Everything worked fine but now I can't print and the printer is not being detected. I re-installed the Canon printer driver and repeated the steps above several times but still don't see the printer on the network. Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thanks

    DB:2.93:Time Machine Printing pj

    Hello,

By "time machine", I assume you mean Time Capsule (which Time Machine program can use )

I also had difficulty printing to my Canon MX310 printer via Time Capsule this evening. When adding the printer in the System Preferences/Printers panel, (2) printers on Bonjour were displayed:

    canon mx310 series fax
    canon mx310 series fax - 1

If you see a listing similar to what's above, try selecting the second choice, then you will be able to select "Canon IJ" printer driver.. and it should all work. I hope this helped.

Mac OS 10.5.7 or .8 and one Mac with 10.4.11 just to eliminate the 10.5 question.

Adobe CS3 Design Standard Premium, Office 2004, Safari, Firefox Entourage and Filemaker Pro 9.

All the above Macs and applications can print to all printers with no issues.

Installed Adobe CS4 Standard Premium on the Mac Pro towers, MacBook Pro, PowerMac G5 towers.

Photoshop CS4 will not print to the two Canon copiers. It will print to the other printers. Photoshop CS3 on these same Macs WILL print to the Canon copiers. All the other apps will print to the Canon copiers.

Adobe has a tech note on this, ID KB409119 did not help.

Deleted all prefs, created new users, deleted and reinstalled Adobe CS4, deleted all printers, downloaded latest drivers and installed printers fresh.

None of this worked. Not to mention this problem is different from that tech note because Photoshop CS 4 will print just fine to the other HP printers.

Tried setting up the one Canon Color Copier iPR Server using Appletalk. That worked.

Why is there a problem with Photoshop CS4 and Canon IP printers?

Just to recap for you all that just skim thru this:

Under the PC Settings app, there's an "Update and recovery" section at the bottom. You'll see two options. One keeps your files, the other does a complete erase.

On a desktop computer, you'd have to reinstall any desktop programs (such as Firefox or Photoshop) after you refresh. But on an RT computer, you wouldn't have those anyway. Plus any apps that came from the Store get automatically reinstalled after the
refresh. So a refresh on an RT computer is a lot less of a pain than on a desktop.

PC Refresh (keeps your files, but reinstall Windows)
If your PC isn't performing as well as it once did, and you don't know why, you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal files or changing your settings. All your personal files and settings will be kept, but any programs you installed
yourself from CD's or websites (like Firefox, Office, games, etc.) will be removed and you'll have to download them again on your own.

Open the PC Settings app, go to Update and Recovery, then choose "Get Started" for the refresh.

If you cannot login or use the PC Settings app, you can access these options from Safe Mode instead. On the login screen, click the Power icon, then hold down SHIFT on the keyboard while you click Restart. Keep holding shift until the next screen appears.

PC Reset (a full factory reset -- everything will be removed)
If you want to recycle your PC, give it away, or start over with it, you can reset it completely.

Open the PC Settings app, go to Update and Recovery, then choose "Get Started" for the reset.

If you cannot login or use the PC Settings app, you can access these options from Safe Mode instead. On the login screen, click the Power icon, then hold down SHIFT on the keyboard while you click Restart. Keep holding shift until the next screen appears.

I am trying to install a Canon MF4270 network printer with my Macbook Air running Mountain Lion.I added the printer using its IP, and selected the MF4200 driver from the list that came installed with the OS. The printer worked, but it would not allow me to print double-sided (the option was greyed out). Some research showed that other people with similar problems simply updated the printer driver. I checked the driver version and it said 2.0. I went to the Canon website and downloaded the newest version of the driver, which said 2.43.I re-added the printer with the new driver. Same problem. So I deleted the driver and the list of associated files, given to me by Canon tech support (I verified then that the MF4200 driver was no longer on the list), then installed the new driver (restarting my computer at every step). I re-added the printer. Now, it doesn't work at all. When I try to print, I get the following message: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information."I tried adding the printer using the Generic PostScript Printer driver, and when I print, it says that it is printing and I get no errors, but nothing prints. Now, I can't print at all, and no one at Canon or Apple has been able to solve the problem. Please help.

For my HP printer at work, two-sided printing is on the Layout tab, and for this printer, the option is there on the Layout tab, but it is grey and unselectable - searching through the forums, people said that it must be a driver issue and that's what started the driver issues. No one at Canon or Apple ever suggested checking the Finishing tab, which would have avoided this whole mess. Thank you so much!

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tipsProblem: - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions. - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select apple menu / system preferences / print and scan / +) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi. - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install). Solution: 1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.Canon 860 Series Drivers Software for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are1 Printer Driver(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))2 Scanner Driver(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))3 Network Tool(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)4 Solution Menu (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))5 MP Navigator EX(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX(Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 )) Canon Support (HK) check your local sitehttp://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.doSelect Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/ 1. Choose a product category Multifunctional Printers 2. Choose a product series Pixma 3. Choose a product model Pixma MX868 4. Choose type of document Downloads or FAQIf you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from unidentified developers by using Control Key or by changing your system preferences)2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USBOnce you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 Photo Print) are working via USB. Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App Setup menu). This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking3) Add new network printer using apple menu / system preferences / print and scan / +).After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App. Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using apple menu / system preferences / print and scan / +). Once you select + (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: Canon IJ Network) DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list). The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scanIf the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List. It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP addressIf the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

DB:2.92:Network Printing With Xp And Canon Mp480 ks

I have a Canon MP480 connected to my XP machine. My windows machine and macbook pro are on the same network and can both browse each other's files. When I go to Add a Printer in leopard, I can see the Canon on the windows machine and I can add it to my macbook pro. However, nothing happens when I try to print. I was told using the default Canon drivers doesn't work for networked printers, so I tried finding a Gutenprint driver. I couldn't find one for the MP480, so I tried a few that were close (MP500, MP150, etc.). With the Gutenprint drivers, I see the jobs from my macbook pro show up in the windows print queue, and the printer lights turn on as if something is going to happen, but nothing ever prints. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

(note: this is all after weeks of problems setting this printer up with my time capsule)

I have a client that is having this same exact problem. Is there any way to resolve this without my client having to spend $65 to do it?

    DB:2.92:Having Problems With Printers jx

Have a MacBook Pro 1.8. I have two printing problems:

    1) Often when I try to print from Word or Final Draft to a shared printer (connected to an iMac G5), the apps will crash immediately. It's not 100% of the time...but it's up there, maybe 8 out of 10. HP Laserjet 1012

    2) When I print to a Canon print from Safari (connected directly to the printer), the text is stretched. Anyone else seeing this...?

I've done the usual stuff (repair permissions, etc).

Today I noticed that when printing to my USB printer, apps will crash immediately, or, it sends to the printer, but, won't print. This is going to be a major hassle, I'm afraid

DB:2.92:Usb-Printing Problems With Canon Mf4370dn fm

    No luck getting it work

I get the message: Error:-9672 when adding a printer

    Help?

DB:2.92:Usb-Printing Problems With Canon Mf4370dn fm

    Hi PAHU,

Require you assistance with regards to the installation of the Canon MF4370dn. I am having problems with both the Ethernet and USB connection to my Airport Express which is part of a larger network of Time Capsule and Airport Extreme.

After installing the latest update v2.15 downloaded from the Canon Asia Pac website, followed the installation guide, I am still unable to have bi-directional printing (unable to access duplex printing). In addition, I did this on both my Macbook Pro and iMac. But both are unable to access the printer driver. Is there an issue with my Airport setup?

I am perplex by this. Is there a way for this function to work?

DB:2.91:Getting Windows Pc To See Wireless Airport Express Printer In Mixed Network f7

I have a wireless network that has been working well. Base station is a SMC wireless router with two Macs connected via Ethernet, a MacBook and a Dell Windows XP joining in wirelessly. No problems. I recently added a Canon Pixma i4200 connected to an Airport Express in client mode. I set up the Airport Express via the MacBook and have no problem printing wireless to the Canon from the MacBook.

The question is how to set up the Dell Windows XP system to see the Canon printer? We tried installing the Canon print driver, but it really wants the printer to be plugged into the PC and won't complete the driver installation. We'll go ahead and plug it in for the setup I guess and then disconnect it. Since I already configured the Airport Express via the MacBook, I didn't want to try to set it up via the Dell PC, but is that likely to help?

This network is such a mixed bag, I think I'm lucky to have everything working as well as it does. Happy to be able to print wirelessly to the new Canon from the MacBook, but my wife wants to be able to print to this printer from her Dell upstairs. The nice feature of the Canon is that it prints duplex.

    thanks for any help
    Rick
