    Hi,
my problem is that we had reinstalled machines which had a sccm agent installed.
Now the systems have no sccm agent but the sccm mmc says that these machine have an agent installed.
When does the sccm inventory notice that the client is not installed any more?
    Thank you

There's a German forum for System Center related products by the way ... ;-)
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/de-DE/systemcenterde/threads
What's your main goal? Just setting the client installed = yes flag to no? The only way to reset the flag would be using the clear install flag maintenance task (which is dangerous with automatic push enabled), but it would reset the flag for all clients.

Or removing the entire record from the database? A client record will be re-added if AD system discovery was enabled or by the client itself (if the server has got the ConfigMgr client installed).

Can I have people just install the Zenworks Unmanaged Inventory.exe to get a jumpstart on my asset managment without converting the whole network?

    Hi,

First verify whether the form (*.frm) is already copied or yet to be copied in the client machine's ldclient folder.

I think the advance agent installation works in this case ...So include the form in the agent, create an advance agent and schedule an advance agent push.

Hi i am supporting SMS 2003 SP3 evnironment of about 5000 machines. client computers are running windows XP SP2. about two weeks ago we deployed software to entire estate of 5000 machines. the advertisement was set todownload the package and then install.the
advertisement has run successfully on about4700 machines however 300 machines are showingin no Status category on Advertisement report. i pinged those 300 machines and at least 100 machines are onine and pingable.
i picked one rendom machine from the listto check weather it received theadvertisement or not. the execmgr.log file showed the client received advertisement as normal and processed it successfully.this means that client is not passing the
status messages back to management point. i checked the log on management point and itshows status message data is flowing between clietn andmanagement point. this means the status messages didnt left the clietn computer.
i checked below path and there are plenty of messages waiting in Queue to be sent to management point.
    c:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\ServiceData\Messaging\OutgoingQueues\mp_statusreceiver
the machine doesnt seem to have any SMS agent issues. i can connect to client machine via SCCM Client centre without any issues. the machine is returning hardware inventory ok as per resource explorer (hardware inventory is set to run everyday).
i am stumped why those status messages are queued at client. the client can download the advertisement from management point it can download the package from distribution point and run it as per advertisement assigment. why it is not returning status messages?
i do not see running CCMclean on machine and reinstall SMS Advanced client as an option because it will cause client machine to rerun all advertisements. some light on this issue will be very helpful as remaining 299 machines might be having the same issue.

DB:3.17:How Does One Trigger Inventory Update While Provisioning 8f

I'd like some of my provisioning tasks to force the local agent to perform an inventory update and send the results to the core.

There isn't a pre-configured provisioning action for this so I'm looking for any tips...

what executeable do I need to run and what switches might I use, if any?

The reason for this is simple; I need to force an inventory update so that my queries are accurate when I run them. Currently the queries rely on a mix of old and new data-I need more control over the age of the data. The LDMS 90 console doesn't allow me to select multiple machines and issue an inventory update command to them; I have to invidually right click on each machine to initiate this...with large groups of machines this is tiresome.

I'd like to do this via provisioning in an 'on-demand' way as well as be able to update the inventory after a provisioning task makes changes to a system that should be reported to the inventory database.

    thanks

DB:3.17:How Does One Trigger Inventory Update While Provisioning 8f

This is a good idea, pulling the path from the database...thanks

However, as I went to implement this I realized how it won't really matter. For some reason Landesk has decided that provisioning tasks can NOT be made 'flat' so as to apply for different OS types. Previously I had setup a provisioning include template for each OS type we are using and those includes worked for launching the inventory scanner on each specific OS type. I have to continue using those 3 includes because a single, OS independent one won't work as each provisioning template must align with the target OS type or else it won't run.

Ken, you have a good solution, too bad we can't use it to make a single template.

Maybe we need an ER for allowing us to create generic provisioning templates? I've tried to specify WINDOWS as the target OS before, however I'm never able to use those templates on a Win7x64 target OS. They are unavailable as INCLUDES and if I try to use them singly they will never run because of the OS mismatch.

    Hi,
In software inventory why can't we have atarget collection methodas we have for software distribution and deployment management in SCCM 2007. Assume that in an environment it has 1000 machines and i
need to inventory only for 50 machines, so that i can create a seperate collection for those 50 machines and link the collection to software inventory. So this can actually reduce the networkbandwidth issue as SCCMwilltake inventory for those
50 machines onlyinstead of taking inventory for all 1000 machines in an environment.

DB:3.13:Having A Collection For Software Inventory mp

Garth's answer is true and accurate. I would like to point out however that software inventory is only a delta every time it runs; thus, if nothing has changed or if only a small change has been made, the bandwidth will be negligible.
Also, what are you using Soft Inv for? Soft Inv ins't really a good name for this procedure, it should be file inventory as it doesn't really collection software [product] information, it collects information from files.

    Hello,

We\'ve recently upgraded our pre-production ZCM zone from v10.3.1 to 11.1a. Most parts of the upgrade have gone well.

One issue is that when having upgraded the Zenworks Adaptive Agent on workstations from version 10.3.1.34138 to version 11.1.0.12959 that ships with Zenworks 11.1a, we\'re unable to perform inventory scans. Those machines still running agent 10.3.1.34138 can still be scanned.

Looking in the properties of a 11.1 agent, the Inventory link is missing from the left-hand pane.

When forcing an inventory scan of the workstation from ZCC, the workstation log shows - amongst other things - Could not find a handler associated with the following type: Inventory.Scannow.

If I manually remove and then reinstall the 11.1 agent, the inventory option is available.

If anyone else has seen something similar and knows of a resolution, I\'d love to know about it.

I\'ll continue to dig into this and will post back results.

    Thanks in advance,

A resynchronization indicates that the current MIF file represents all inventory for the current machine. DB:3.01:Cannot Delete Device (Ld 9.6) xx

I've been having trouble deploying an agent to a couple of machines. The agent installs successfully and returns an inventory scan but the machine goes into Pending Unmanaged. After a full uninstall (/forceclean) on the managed device. I go to Pending unmanaged and delete the device. As soon as I refresh, the deleted device pops back up. The device has no agent, so its not sending back inventory information.

Any ideas why this is happening? What can I do to permanently delete this device?

Thanks, Amagi. I saw that article but it didn't work for me. But I was relieved to find that it's a known issue in 9.6. I ended up deleting from SQL to get rid of them.

    LD 8.8 SP3

I have recently deployed 14K nodes and have a small issue concerning mini scans.

From All devices view, I have about 100 machines that are "managed" but only show basic information (IP address , name, device ID, etc...). These are mini scans. I can remote control these devices. The agent appears to be fully installed. The agent has been resident for several weeks now. The "Last Updated By Inventory Server" date is current.

If I deploy the "Inventory Scanner" Managed Script., they all fail. The script has been modified to force a full scan. See below:

    REMEXEC1=qt/%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXEqt/ /NTT=%server%:5007 /S="%server%" /I=HTTP://%server%/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /Sync

The scheduled task results show "The system cannot find the path specified.

However, if i remote control a device in this group and manually kick off a full scan, the full inventory scan completes and I no longer have a mini scan inventory for that device. I have the full inventory. The command used is:

    "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\LDISCN32.EXE" /NTT=XXX-LDCORE:5007 /S=XXX-LDCORE /I=HTTP://XXX-LDCORE/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /V /Sync /F

(I edited the server name for the purposes of this thread.)

Thinking it might be an issue with the variables, I modified the inventory script and specified the core server by name and redeployed with no success. That script was:

    REMEXEC1=qt/%LDMS_CLIENT_DIR%\LDISCN32.EXEqt/ /NTT=XXX-LDCore:5007 /S="XXX-LDCore" /I=HTTP://XXX-LDCore/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz /NOUI /NOCD /F /Sync

Question: Why does manually firing off the full inventory scan work and pushing the same command via Managed Scripts fail?

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

    DB:3.00:Inventory Agent Behavoir Question sf

I have a question about how the inventory agent behaves if it misses its scheduled inventory time. My inventory agent is set to send a hw inventory back every 12 hours starting at 4pm on some date in the past. If my machines are set to send in a hardware inventory every 12 hours, but they miss one of the scan times, will they send in the inventory as soon as they're turned on or will they wait until the next time? Also, if a machine is on at 4pm, but not connected to the internet until, say, 6pm, will it send the inventory in at 6pm when it gets an internet connection? I have a lot of laptops in the field that are used very unpredictably and I'm getting very spotty hardware reports on them.

    DB:3.00:Inventory Agent Behavoir Question sf

I think they are both correct answers, I was answering the first part of the question which implies that the system is not powered on at all at the scheduled time and Matt's answer is definitely correct if the system is powered on, just not connected. Conceptually though, the simple schedules are still better and preferred because you don't have to worry about this at all. It just happens every x hours/days and will catch up if the schedule is missed. (Micromanaging -- computers and people -- just adds to your workload and is ultimately counter-productive.)Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

    Hi All,

We have automated few package installation with uninstall association and the SWD task is targeting to LADP queries (All machines of OU).

Problem which I am facing here is , the automated package is getting uninstalling and installing again and again without removing /adding the machines (workstations / laptops) to AD OU.

I have referred many articles in this community and came to know that whenever the LANDesk Agent sending/running the Inventory and Policy.sync.exe (ldapwhoami.exe) without domain user credential is causing the uninstallation. (Missing the LDAP Group info from inventory)

But in my network, users are always logged into the machine and no one is logging to the machine with any local account. And laptop users may connect with VPN to the network whenever they required.

Can someone share more inputs on this to trouble shoot this issue.
    I) What are the situations to send and inventory to Core without LDAP info?
II) What are the situation to miss LDAP info while running Policy.sync.exe ?
III) What are the conditions to trigger uninstallation , is it related to last updated inventory OR is it related to currently running policy.sync.exe

    My LDMS Details:

    LANDesk Core: LDMS 9.0 SP2

Inventory interval: 1 time per day between 6 am to 6 pm or IP address change.

I agree, it is better to handle the uninstalls in a much more controlled manner. /Create used to delete the DB if it still existed and build a new one... It can be that they changed that. A /DELETE and /CREATE can be scripted together, as in Jean-Pierre's script, but always test good before running on 100's of machines.

Stopped all Firewalls, A/V, and Anti Malware applications. Made sure all services related to LANDesk as well as remote registry services were running.Forcing a scan by adding /F /SYNC to the target line.Entries to the host files have been made. I can ping the server by name and IP Address

The inventory scanner still doesn't run because it can't communicate with the Core server. However, the security scan still works and is able to complete without a problem. The client machine is running Windows XP with SP3.

Can anyone suggest anything that I can try, I have a few client machines that are experiencing the same issue.

    Thanks!

DB:2.94:Why Won't The Inventory Scanner Work? sp

    Hello Andy,

On the client machine look at the registry: HKLM\Software\Inte\LANDesk\LDWM and find the "CoreServer" key. See if you are able to ping the exact name shown on this key on the client machine. Also use a ping -a to ensure its returning the correct machine name.

If that is found working then something is preventing port 5007. The security scans use port 80 and IIS so this is why they would be working while inventory is not. You should perform a wireshark scan on the client machine while trying to initiate an inventory scan on the client and see where the disconnection is.

Also as a test, you can update manually the registry key on the client to the IP address of the core and test inventory scanning.

Sorry, confirm that the new file that is on the system is in fact the latest version.  Just to be sure.  The client should look at the file meta data and know that it is not the same as before.  It should know the modified date and version are different and pull it up.  I can't say why one machine is correct and another is not.  This is not a problem with the server it is a problem with the client not pulling it back in.  See if you can do a WQL query with wbemtest for the file and see what is returned.  I am not a machine where I can write the query but you need me to I will post tomorrow (Tuesday)http://www.sccm-tools.com

We've had landesk deployed on our client estate for roughly 5 months with minimal updates to our agents, we're still in the rollout process and we've been looking at now rolling out new power management profiles. I've enabled the 'collect power information' option in the agent and re-pushed the agent via an update settings task, the agent has deployed and I have checked this by also adding the landesk start menu items into this agent revision and the start menu items show up with a created date of the time/date the task was run.

I'd like to use the Agent Configuration Date in a query to see any agents that have missed a new agent revision, but the date field doesnt appear to update. This is both apparent in the Inventory scans and also if i view the local registry on the machines.

I've read a few posts which give conflicting information on this field, some say its the original date of agent install while others support my theory that this should update when an agent is revised. Being that there is no way to capture the revision number other than renaming the agent, can any confirm that this date should show the date of the last time the agent was updated? and if so, can anyone shed any light on it being out of date, in some cases by several months.

    Thanks in advance!

A simple change to the configuration which only requires a "Schedule update to agent settings" task increments the minor version numberA significant change (such as adding or removing a component, or applying agent patches) which requires a full agent redeploy increments the major version number

DB:2.91:Inventory Scanner Unable To Connect To The Core cx

75% of the machines for my firm are in remote, field offices. These computers are non-domain workstations. When installing the agent on a few of these branch computers, the installation goes through normally, however the machines do not show up on the core. Someon mentioned to me that the inventory scanner possibly did not run on the machines. when I go to run the inventory scanner, i get the attached error "LDSCN32: The inventory server ... did not respond"

I suspect that during the agent configuration, I would need to change the core server name to the Gateway's public address. will that work the way I expect it? the wayward cliend will in an inventory scan and reach out to the gateway appliance. the gateway appliance forwards the connection on to the core?

DB:2.91:Inventory Scanner Unable To Connect To The Core cx

Did you download the exe at the bottom of the page and create the lng file?

Copy the ConfigureBroker.exe to the LANDesk Core Servers ManagementSuite folder. This folder is shared by default with the share name of LDMain.

Run "ConfigureBroker.exe" and enter in the username and password of the broker.config user that was just created and that is a member of the LANDesk Management Suite user group.

(Do not use a domain account)

    Click Save.

The ConfigureBroker.exe creates a folder in the LDMain share/ManagementSuite folder called "noshareLDLogon".

Inside this folder a file is created called "BrokerConfig.lng".

Copy the "BrokerConfig.lng" file to the root of the LDLogon share on the core server. The LDLogon folder is under the ManagementSuite folder.

NOTE: If using the ConfigureBroker.exe, it is highly recommended that logon rights from the local security policy for local users be removed. This will block non domain users from logging into the LANDesk application.

LANDesk 9.0 SP2: Role-based Administration has changed in LANDesk 9.0. The following items must be changed.

The configure.broker user is a part of the Script-Writers Group.Add "modify" writes for the Script-Writers Group to the C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\brokerreq folder on the core server

Including the .lng file in the LANDesk Agent

The following steps will update the default LANDesk Agent Configuration so that all agents will include the .lng file, and automatically retrieve the Gateway Certificate on Agent install.

Browse to the \ManagementSuite\ldlogon folder on the LANDesk Core Server.

Open the ntstacfg.in# file with notepad. Search for the [Common Base Agent Post Copy] section.

At the end of the [Common Base Agent Post Copy] section add the following line:

    FILE10001=BrokerConfig.lng, %PROGRAMFILES%\LANDesk\Shared Files\cbaroot\broker\BrokerConfig.lng

LANDesk 9.0 SP2 Update: There are two [Common Base Agent Post Copy] sections in the LANDesk 9.0 SP2 agent.ini file. Be sure to add the previous lines to the larger section that appears first. If this is not done the LNG file will not be inserted in the self-contained agent executable. A good way to check this is to search the log for "brokerconfig.lng" after the self-contained executable is created. You should see a line stating that the brokerconfig.lng file was inserted into the CAB. (This is resolved in SP2 for LDMS 9.0 CR00047107)

After saving the changes, go to Configure | Services | Inventory and restart the Inventory Service.

After the service restarts, the existing agents must be rebuilt to include the new changes.

In the LANDesk Console, go to Tools | Configuration | Agent Configuration. Click the Rebuild All button.

To verify that the agents recieved the change, right click on an agent and choose Advanced Edit.

The Agent Configuration.ini file will open for that Agent.

Look under the [Common Base Agent Post Copy] section for the two lines that were added.

Create a self-extracting executable for the configuration by right-clicking on the configuration in the console and choosing Create self-contained client installation package.

Choose the location for the self contained EXE files, and click Save.

NOTE: After creating the self contained Agent Installer, it is highly recommended to remove the BrokerConfig.lng file from the Ldlogon share.

Install the self-extracting executable to the remote machine. If the machine is connected to the internet, then a cert will be created on the client during install.

If the machine was not connected to the internet when the agent was installed, When the inventory scanner runs and it will automatically run brokerconfig.exe -r when it realizes it doesn't have a cert.

After the client is configured for the Gateway then the BrokerConfig.lng is deleted

    Manually using the .lng file
Run through the steps to create the .lng file. Manually copy the .lng file to the C:\Program Files\LANDesk\Shared Files\cbaroot\broker folder on an existing client. When the inventory scan executes on the client it will consume the .lng file and the broker certificates will be retrieved.

DB:2.91:Wmi Discovery Not Working For All Machines dc

    Good day all,

Im using TD1.6 and when doing an Asset Inventory Scan on windows machines, I get some machines, but not all. In the Task Monitor Details I would get the following for a specific machine:

Discovery: Agent identification: "WMI": Credential test: Complete. Result: 0 agent(s) found. Discovery: Agent identification: Searching "WMI" agent: Complete. Result: 1 agent(s) identified / 1 agent(s) requested.

So at first I thought this is a user issue (which it maybe is) but when I run wbemtest and login to this machine using the exact same username and password I can connect (eg: \\EndNode\root\cimv2) username format: domain\user

This user belong to a domain group, this domain group is part of the local administrators on all the machines.

I can also run Queries on this machine using wbemtest. eg: SELECT * FROM Win32_BIOS which gives me values

Any thoughts are welcome as I have ran out of ideas...

    Fausto,

    1. After creating the admin account, it took 8 hours for us to replicate the user id on all the domain servers.

    2. You must create an admin account that has permissions to log onto on all the windows desk tops as an administrator. We call this resource account.

    3. If the account created has the above privs, discovery should be fine.

with ADDLOCAL inventory in the properties.

I have the app set to never reboot and don\'t prompt for reboot.

The install is set to run silently and force run to workstation objects -

run as user if workstation associated

The problem i am having is that while the object runs as expected it reboots

the machine without warning or prompting.

I want to deploy this function silently without user intervention.

therefore i want the reboot suppressed.

    Any ideas?

    I tried ReallySuppress and Suppress

Well, then I have really no idea, because this

should stop the Windows Installer from rebooting

as you can see in the documentation link I provided.

As far as I can understand it must be something else

    that is forcing the reboot.

    You must go through the usual troubleshooting process;

disassociate everything but this AO, does that work?

disassociate all AOs run Windows Installer manually with the properties

So at the moment it would seem I have some machines that are missing. I need to schedule an install but without those machines in the device list I cannot ad them to my scheduled task.

I have also done a discovery across the domain to find the machine but the device name is blank for quite a few of the machines discovered.

How do I force a complete "check-in" for all my devices that have the agent. I know that some of the computers have the agent but they haven't check-in yet

    TIA

    DB:2.89:Slight Issue 1a

    Hi bsod'd,

    If the machines are on the domain, you may use a domain GPO to launch an inventory scan script;

    "C:\Program File (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\LDISCN32.EXE" /NTT=IPCoreServer:5007 /S=NameOfCoreServer /I=HTTP://IPCoreServer/LDLOGON/LDAPPL3.LDZ /V /F /SYNC

It will force a full scan on the machines having the agent.

Or you may, create these machines manually on the device list on the Network view of the LDMS console with the IP and hostname, and start an inventory by right clicking these machine.

Hi there.  I'm trying to deploy agents from SCE 2007 on Server 2003 SP1, and in discovering computers on my domain to install agents to, the SCE server successfully finds the computers from Active Directory, but appends the domain name to it. So a computer on the network (we'll call it xyz) is found and it allows me to select it as xyz.domain.  However, the domain controller set up here previously by someone else was not fully qualified, so the domain is just abc, instead of abc.com.  Naturally, xyz.abc does not resolve, but xyz does (I assume due to WINS).  Agents cannot be installed because it can't resolve this 'fully qualified name.'  Is there any way to make it find the computers just based on hostname (xyz) instead of xyz.abc?  I tried the manual option of inputting the computers to find, without the domain appeneded to it, but once it finds the machines successfully, it automatically lists them with xyz.abc.  The next step of installing the agent fails with 'No RPC Server Available.' Any help would be appreciated.Eventually I am going to move the machines to a proper domain controller (abc.com), but for the moment I need to get agents installed and updates going as well as take an inventory.  Thanks a million for your help!

DB:2.87:Export Inventory Record From Client And Import To Landesk Server 87

    Hi All,

I am being asked to keep the inventory record of the offline machines from LANDesk management suite as well.

Our case is we have some machines are running in an isolated network, and those are no ways to connect to LANDesk management server.

My question is can I install an agent on those machines manually and let the agent collect the inventory then export the inventory file and import to LANdesk server?

DB:2.87:Export Inventory Record From Client And Import To Landesk Server 87

OK, that makes sense when linked to my comment on that (quoting the bit you are responding to helps) although that still means you need a landesk component installed on that server rather than just pointing to a file share (you mention no need for a server, but you will still need to install an inventory service somewhere) and the information of how to set it up not to expect to talk to a core server. Really a case of how many machines are involved as to which one works best in the situation. Each has a benefit:

    - Off Core inv service will allow the scanner to use compression saving data but cannot use delta scanning

    - Scripting to a share will allow regular scans to a filename that is always the same (without which you would potentially get lots of files for the same machine or have to implement a method to keep only the latest scan file or be certain to collect and remove the ouptut files regularly)

On a side note - you might want to try limiting your use of bold and underline though. Just focus on giving an answer to what was a valid question. I think these addiitonal comments have added value to anyone looking at the same situation, but the original post was not spam; the question was valid, there was a sensible response made in context by the original poster, and they also marked the question as answered. If you were commenting on my post as being spam then hopefully you will see based on the subsequent discussion it was not spam, it added to the available options by expanding beyond a manual process launched on each machine creating a file to be collected, to one that sent it to a (presumably) available local storage point on the private network.

We are aware that the Inventory templates for 7.6 are not installed on a fresh install of BSA 8.2 but the questions are: 1.What can we do in this case in order for us to have an inventory of these machines with our older version of the agents? 2. Can we install the inventory templates version 7.6 in our current environment on top of our fresh environment housing different versions of the inventory templates simultaneously? 3. What is the recommended method of installing these inventory templates and in what sequence of order? 4. Would installing the inventory templates v7.6 first and then installing the inventory templates 8.2 solve the problem? 5. We also want to create reports from BDSSA from snapshots taken from the agents (v 7.6 8.2). 6. Are there other procedures to take on the reporting side in order to create inventory reports of the agents previous to version 8.2 ? When we tried to create the snapshot jobs on agents v7.6 using the native inventory templates from v8.2, we got error messages saying that the agent does not have the server objects such "Unix Users" "Unix Groups", which of course seems normal since the server with agent v7.6 was added to the console after installaing a fresh installation of BSA. Subsequently, we then tried to deploy server configuration objects (v8.2) to these agents but this failed too because it says the objects are not compatible with the agent. How can we provide appproriate support to our customers, whom have different versions of the agents, without having to upgarde the agents each time the infrastructre servers chanages?

    Hi Guys,

I recently changed from player to server. I have updated my datastore, everytime I attempt to add a machine to the inventory, it shows zero percent, then crashes with an HTTP error. I have to restart the VM Host Agent service. This happens whether the datastore is local or network. I have rebuild the datastore.xml file, and even uninstalled/reinstalled.

Currently installed on 2008R2 running terminal services

update: I also instaleld it on a windows 7 64b machine with the same results. Note the virtual machines run fine within player.

DB:2.86:Cannot Add Virtual Machine To Inventory dc

    That is unfortunate.

My current situation does not warrant the expenditure. I have one VM that I support across the network. I was running it via player, and allowing users to utilize its remote desktop services. However, with player I was forced to keep the administrator logged in. And a recently adapted GPO looks for disconnected TS sessions and kills them. So server seemed to be the answer. Basically I want the VM to run without foreseeing a user to be logged in.

My next course would be to continue using the VMPlayer, remove the GPO, and write and schedule a script to look for disconnected TS sessions and log them off if they are not administrator. Clunky but it nets the desired results.

    Another way?

    DB:2.85:Remote Control Issue d9

Since upgrading a 8.6 LANDesk core to 8.7 SP4 (and changing the core's IP address to one in another segment), we're having problems with remote control from the web console. I'm not sure if this is an inventory updating issue or a remote control/web console issue. We are using integrated security. The agent is configured to run inventory upon IP address change.

The problem I'm having with several machines is that I can successfully remote control them from the 32-bit console on the core and from my own machine, but not from the web console on the core (or anywhere else). When remote control successfully connects via the 32-bit console, it tries the inventoried IP, but then tries an IP that is different than the one shown in Inventory from either console, and the Last Updated by Inventory date displayed in either console is current. The inventoried IP from a current inventory scan appears to be incorrect as I can ping these machines from the core by machine name and get the correct address, i.e., the one that the 32-bit console switches to as viewed in the Remote Control window.

The problematic machines showing an incorrect IP address in inventory after a current inventory scan all seem to be in the same IP range, so far, and all switch to a different IP range when using remote control from the 32-bit console, i.e, a 10.99.4.x IP is tried first, but then remote control via the 32-bit console connects to a 10.99.5.x or 10.99.6.x address, as viewed in the Remote Control window.

As I've said, I'm not sure if this is a remote control issue, inventory issue or some failing with the web console, so I've attached today's IIS log. The failed web console remote control attempts in the log are coming from users TALX\csk2 from the core and TALX\rfm from another workstation (TALX\csk2 is the userID for a successful 32-bit console remote control session.) I'm also curious to understand how the 32-bit console would "know" the correct IP address to change to when it's not the address showing up in inventory, whereas the web console only tries to use the IP address shown in inventory.

    DB:2.85:Remote Control Issue d9

To add to the useful information Brandon put up.

... usually it's preferable to use DNS over the IP's stored in the database. Remember that the database information is a "snapshot in time" which may be minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months old. It all depends on when the client last sent an inventory scan successfully.

And there's many, many possibilities on how a client could have an old record in the database / why its inventory scans might not be processed.

DNS information should be correct - and if it is not, then I would suggest your network/server maintenance people look at cleaning up the DNS records. If your DNS doesn't work reliably there's your real problem (and this would affect also other things, like provisioning / OSD and so on).

So if your tests should find that your DNS records are the ones that cause you problems, that's what you want to resolve :).

    Hope this helps.

Hyperic HQ version 4.5.1.2 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.I have two questions.First: I have a SINGLE instance of Apache 2.2 installed in D:\Apache\Application on a machine monitored by Hyperic HQ. However, upon starting the Hyperic agent, it auto-discovered TWO instances of Apache, one with an install path of "D:\Apache\Application" and the other with an install path of "D:\Apache\Application\conf\httpd.conf." What's the deal here? Why does it see this as two instances? Is it safe to delete one of them from inventory? Which one (and how do I delete it from inventory)?Second: I have two servers running clustered Glassfish 3.1.0. Server 1 has the Domain Application Server (DAS) running JMX on port 8686. Then, Server 1 and Server 2 each have two instances (total of four instances that all belong to the same cluster) running JMX on ports 28686 and 28687 on each machine. I installed and started Hyperic agents on both machines. Since the Glassfish plugin is included in this version of Hyperic, I expected it to auto-discover a total of five instances of Glassfish (including the DAS). However, it didn't detect any instances at all. Why wouldn't it discover them? They are for sure running. What do I do to add them to inventory without auto-discovery?Thanks in advance for helping this first-timer get started.Nick

    Hi,

I've recently upgraded to Management Suite 9 SP3 to resolve issues with our inventory scanner but now am unable to remote control or deploy packages to the machines running OS X 10.4.11. Apparently LANDesk support this by installing the SP2 agent on the machines but there doesn't seem to be any instructions on how to have 2 agent versions available to deploy from the LANDesk core.

I've had a look through the core settings and can't find an option to use an older agent install. I thought we could script the install using some startup scripts but since LANDesk is meant to be able to do this anyay thought I would check to see if I'm missing something.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a copy of our SP2 agent so will try scripting the install. I really appreciate you all taking the time to help out.

It's a bit disappointing that LANDesk say they still support an OS but then make it a lot more complicated to do so. Other products manage to deploy different agent versions with ease to all sorts of different platforms.

Hello, we are runing landesk 8.8 sp4.

i have been seeing alot of agents, that seam to be partially working. some of them are not gathering full inventory, some of them are not running the remote control software, ect.

i have tried installing the client on top of it using an agent deployment, the install is successful, but the agent configuration name does not update, and many of my issues still exist.

how can i uninstall and reinstall the agent to fix the issue. The problem is i see that the machines usually need a reboot to run the uininstaller. im afraid that i will uninstall the agent, and lose the workstation completely. i dont have the ability to effectiently scan our network for machines right now, so i want to do my best not to lose these machines after the reboot.

If theres a way to do this without a reboot that would be even better.

is there a script that you use to accomplish this reinstall? the last thing i want to do is try to touch 500 machines. to manually reinstall.

    DB:2.84:Reinstalling Agents sd

    Steve,

Yep. Just re-push any failed agents and you should be good to go.

    Chris,

Basically the story is that wscfg32 kicks off (whether manual, push, or advance agent install) and lays down all the bits. Next, we call Windows installer to install CBA8 and configure the agent. This is where it would all go bad. If the Windows Installer was busy, the client would never get configured. The resuld is an agent that appears to have all the files laid down, but is missing the start menu items, and localsch tasks... among other things.

In the 9.0 fix, there wiill be a UI that pops up notifying of an error along with the retry logic. 8.8 only has the retry logic.

The way the retry works is, if wscfg32 doesn't get a successful return code from the Windows Installer, it will wait 10, 15 (I can't remember) minutes and then try again. Before the patch wscfg32 assumed a success and continued on.

I am having trouble updating an agent that is running on a Windows XP Virtual Machine. The host computer is an iMac running an updated 10.5 OS, with Parallels. I downloaded an agent to the VM and it installed with no errors. After it was installed, I wanted to update the agent with a newer one. When I send the agent to the VM thru a scheduled task, it will fail with the error of Cannot Find Agent (different agent responded)'. This happens on several different host Macintosh's with different VM's.

The thing that I think is happening is that the IP in the inventory scan is the same for both the Host computer and the VM. If I do an IPCONFIG on the VM, the IP is in the range of 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, which is correct for parallels. Not sure why LANesk is not reporting the correct IP. On the other hand, the inventory scan does report two different MAC addresses for the host and virtual machines.

Any ideas on how I can fix this problem so that I can update the agent on host machines thru LANDesk?

    Hi guys,

First I want to wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you guys on the forum :)

    Second:

I had the chance to work with the Mac OSx Inventory Only Agent and it didnt impress me much. Maybe some of you guys can help me change my mind ;)

Here\'s what I have so far. After doing some tests couple months ago I found how to personalize the Agent .PKG so that the Inventory would be installed unatented ( without entering the ZENworks server ip or DNS manually on each machine). So, when the package is run, the Inventory Only run according the Schedule, noting wrong here.

For a reason I ignore, it seems like none of the changes made on those MAC are taken by the agent and sent to the ZENworks server. For instance, I did the Snow Leopard (10.6) update on my laptop (MacbookPro) which owns the MacOSx Inventory agent since june.

When I checked back the invetory data with the reports tool on the ZENworks server, the data wasnt updated...and never will.

Same thing happened when I change the name of a MacMini tha owns the Inventory Agent. His name wasnt updated on the server info.

Finally, it seems like none of the change made on any MacOSx workstations are taken by the agent and sent to the server. Thats not very usefull when you relly on this inventory agent to get an global idea of your network assets.

I know the MacInventory is not Novell priority but, why provide us a MacOSx agent, when it doesnt do his job the way it should?

Anyway, maybe one of you guys had better luck, just let me know here !!!

I'm still in a testing phase with Power Management and have an odd issue occuring on a few boxes.

After pushing a Power Policy to several machines, the "Last Deployed Policy" name shows up immediately in the inventory and the LANDesk PWM Scheme is created on the machine. After checking the local scheduler tasks the following is there:

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\LANDESK\LDCLIENT\PWMCFG.EXE /set So far so good.

On a few machines, the Power Management settings have just disappeared. They no longer show a "Last Deployed Policy" in the inventory and the

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\LANDESK\LDCLIENT\PWMCFG.EXE /set

is no longer there in local scheduler. The LANDesk PWM Scheme is still there on the machines though and is the active power scheme in Windows. It's like an agent was pushed out that didn't have PWM, but I have not pushed an agent update to these machines. They have the same agent that is running fine on other workstations.

Any ideas why this would happen? The only things I can think of that I've done on these machines is to deploy test software, run inventory scans and security scans.

    We're on 8.8 sp2.

    DB:2.83:Power Management Settings Disappear 9m

    David,

Thanks for the follow up. I'll be applying the patch you mentioned to hopefully fix the disappearing inventory records issue. My other problem still remains in that I did not push a new agent or an agent update out to the machines that lost the "pwmcfg.exe /set" command in Local Scheduler. It just wasn't there anymore. Re-pushing the Power Policy always fixes the issue though so it's not a huge problem.

The inventory in ZCM is incomplete for many workstations. the errant worksations only have a partial software inventory. If I do a scan-now the workstations xml file gains the proper information, but it never updates the server. I can trace the delta file going through the satelite server, but no new software is reported. If I remove the workstation object and reboot, zcm clears the inventory, but still never recieves any new information. If I remove the agent from the workstation, and remove the Zenworks directory the workstation now works, but that is impractical on 2000 workstations.

Specualtation: The workstations, not knowing there was an error on their side always sends a delta.xml file without any changes. So the server never gets updated.

Is there a way to tell the workstation to send a complete software inventory and not just changes?

Can you test uninstalling both and then reinstall 4.83 without the zfd

I’m wondering if anyone can help with the below inventorying questions.I have SCCM agents deployed out to around 30 servers and 100 machines. These machines are split up into several collections. We would like the Hardware and Software inventories to be run at different times (or not at all) based on the collection that the agents are in.We want (for example); The Hardware and Software inventories to be disabled for machines in the server collection (This is until we can say that there is no performance impact). The Hardware and Software inventories to be enabled and running every 2 days at midnight for machines in the desktop collection. The Hardware and Software inventories to be enabled and running every week at midnight for machines in the laptop collection. We would also like the ability to click on a collection, or single machine and be able to run the Hardware and Software inventories immediately.

The reason for this is so I can see if any programs have been installed on a machine since the last audit (For example I suspect the user has been installing something they shouldn’t) without having to wait for the next scheduled inventory.

As far as I can see there is only an off and on switch for the inventories.
There does not appear to be anything  that can control the inventory agent for specific collections.

I also cannot see any settings that will allow me to perform a “run now” inventory scan on a machine from the central console.
I know that you can do this from the control panel if you are logged onto the machine directly, however I wanted to be able to do this from the central console.

Is there something I am missing?
Or if not is there a third party extension that will give me these abilities?

    Thanks

disabled: sure, easy enough.  Use Roger Zanders' client center to disable an individual client agent on a specific box manually.  It could be scripted, too; so you could send out an advertisement to that collection to disable sinv or hinv.  check the SDKas for run exactly at midnight: I personally have never been a fan of that.  But, sure, you could probably script something using either a local policy override, or simply set midnight, static, for everyone weekly, and then send a recurring ad to re-run hinv/sinv at midnight every 2 days w/a script on your desktop collection.  Check the SDK if you want to pursue that angle (a local policy).  I would just put hinv on simple, every 2 days, and sinv on simple, every 2 days and just call it done.  What's the technical reason you need them to run exactly at midnight?  Especially when there are tasks your server does by default around the midnight hour anyway.run now from the console, if you use a right click tool, like Rick Houchin's or Dan Irelands (add-on).  But I'd use roger Zanders' Client Center.  I simply like it better.  But I know lots of admins swear by the console extensions.  http://www.myitforum.com/myitwiki/SMS%202003%20Console%20Extensions.ashxStandardize. Is it possible to run virtual machine without adding it to inventory?

I have several privacy sensitive virtual machines which should not appear in inventory. In Workstation 7.x the inventory concept was predated with Favorites, where you could remove the machine after you created it. Now, even if you open vm by opening the .vmx file, this machine is automatically added to Inventory.

Is it possible to disable this behavior or at least remove vm automatically from Inventory on its shutdown?

DB:2.81:Is It Possible To Run Virtual Machine In Workstation Without Adding It To Inventory? px

The VM is encrypted, but the host OS is not. Having a VM in the inventory pointing to a file-based crypto disk on a network share a is a sure way to have additional questions asked at customs, etc.

And I do not want to loose the ability to use inventory in a natural way, without any limitations. I have a lot of development VMs which constantly come and go. The contract mandates that all contracted work must be done in employer provided virtual machine in crypto container stored in the employer controlled network.

Having an option to not add a machine to inventory on open would be a great thing. At least somewhere in a configuration file or in the Windows registry.

DB:2.81:How To Deploy Agent To Nodes Not In Ldms Domain, But In Novell? 3a

I'm hoping you all could shed some light for me here. My company has recently acquired another company. We are a LANDesk 9 shop and the other company is a Novell/KBox shop. We were able to push the agent to many of the other machines via Kbox. The client machines for the other company are almost all XP, all users are local admins, using Chrome and Gmail, and are physically connected to my domain'd network but have not all been attached to my domain. We've gotten approval to join many of them to our domain and I was able to push the agent via UDD but still there are ~150 that remain that will not get approval and are in Workgroup and in a Novell environment. My need is to get the full AdvanceAgent onto these remaining ~150 machines so that I can manage and push updates to these machines. I was able to send a link via Outlook to IE which would access a Novell shared drive and this installed the agent. I'm not able to use this method since Chrome and Gmail handle links differently than IE and giving the user 2-3 steps is an invitation for trouble. It appears that the AdvanceAgent installed but I'm not able to get an inventory or push apps since LDMS is unable to locate the agent since I believe it pings for IP.domain naming convention. Since these machines are not on my domain, LDMS isn't finding the machine. More evidence of this is when trying to run an Inventory Scan from the machine, it errors: LDISCN32: Failed to resolve the Host Name...since it's looking for my core server. I found this discussion to be quite helpful but am still struggling with how the agent and LDMS will communicate with each other while LDMS is looking for a FQDN and the agent is looking for the domain'd core.

    http://community.landesk.com/support/message/35034#35034

My next thought would be to setup the Gateway, typically used for remote nodes. Are there any ideas on whether or not the clients sitting inside the network would be able to access the core which also sits inside since the agent via Gateway isn't designed for this use? And please, if you have any other ideas on how I could get the agent to communicate with the core...fire away!

DB:2.81:How To Deploy Agent To Nodes Not In Ldms Domain, But In Novell? 3a

perhabs, you got me wrong... or I don't understend you...
only after removing agent I can't found this device by undamaged device.
ldms db also contains no records about this device (ip,hostname).

If I manually add the device to core and deploing agent , core server reports "can not find the agent"

    Name resolution is working perfectly.
It's not a problem with network.
    P.S. using static ip.

    DB:2.80:Change Datastore f8

    Hello,

my question: is it possible to remove and add a datastore (NFS) without deregister and register the virtuell machines?

    what i want to do:

Store the configuration files (vmx) for virtuell machines on one datastore and the associated disk files (vmdk) on another datatstore (NFS) eg. STORE on device 10.0.0.10/vol1

Now i want to shut down the virtuell machines, remove the datastore STORE and add the datatstore STORE again, pointing to an other device 10.0.0.10/vol2 holding other vmdk files.

    is this possible?

    tests done:

    virtuell machines down.

when i remove the datatstore within the virtuell center, i got the message: datastore in use

removing the datastore from esx conoles (esxcfg-nas -d) = success

adding the datastore again with the same name pointing to other device = i get duplicate datastorename STORE (1) so the virtuell machines can't find there disk files.

doing the same procedure when the virtuell machines are removed from inventory and then after the datastore is changed the virtuell machines added to the inventory = works.

Any idee to do this without removing and adding the virtuell machines to the inventory?

    Thanks

I have recently installed SCUP 2011 and imported the Dell and HP catalogs successfully. I was able to successfully push bios updates in sccmto Dell pc's (first pushing the Dell inventory agent).

I have not having any luck with the HP machines. All the bios updates show as not required in sccm, which I know for sure we have some test machines needing some bios updates. Is there an Inventory agent that needs to be installed on the HP systems before
    scanning can work?
Sorry not sure where to put this question in the forums
    Thanks

DB:2.80:Scup 2011 And Hp Updates ap

Indeed the rules for installation and testing of many HP updates are incorrect or simply are wrong. For example, to the driver Broadcom 5755 TPM Device Driver [1.01.C1] - modified: 12/10/2011 (relatively recent). The rule to detect the driver installed
(Installed rules) in the path set
    [WINDOWS] ..\compaq\misc2
The value '..\compaq\misc2' is invalid in SCUP!!!
This makes continually installing the driver.
Someone else does this happen? any solution?

I can\'t seem to upgrade from the 4.91sp3 client without breaking Zen.

I tried going to the SP4 client, and the inventory broke. When I roll back to SP3 then the inventory works againg. I tried going to the SP5 and PSP5 clients the Inventory breaks AND any app object that runs an executable (.bat and .exe) returns an error: ID=123 file name, directory name, or volume lable syntax are incorrect. These app objects work fine with the SP3 client.

This occurs on all workstations and is reproduceable. WinXP3 on workstations, ZfD 4.0.1.42 agent on workstations, Netware 6.5 support pack Rev 07, edir 8.8 sp2 on server.

DB:2.79:Important Information About Your Ais Agent Installation Package sz

    Overview
    =======
Every Asset Inventory Service (AIS) agent installation package contains a certificate that identifies the account of the AIS subscriber.
This certificate is used to ensure that inventory reported by an agent is associated with the correct account when it is received at the AIS web service.
This certificate has a lifetime of 3 years. After this time, the installation package cannot be used to successfully enroll new agents,
although existing agents will continue to function just fine. A notification will be displayed in the console for those accounts that are approaching the 3 year threshold (approximately 60 days before the certificate expires). The systems administrator of
the AIS account should then download their new agent installation package which is available from the normal download page in the AIS console.
The AIS service supports multiple agent installation packages per account. This means that the original package and the new package
can both be used to install new agents. This allows a transition period where an organization can change their procedures to use the new installation package. Eventually, however, the certificate in the original installation package will expire, after which
time only the new package should be used.

agent installation package expires on expiry date. Please download your new agent installation package and use it for all future installations. [Computers
that had the original agent installation package installed before expiry date do not have to be updated.]
This means that your original agent installation package is going to expire soon, and you need to download a new one and use that
for agent installations. The message will typically be shown 60 days before the package expires. You can continue using the original installation package until the date in the announcement but it is recommended that you start using the new one as soon as possible.

You download it the same way you downloaded the original package by visiting the Client Deployment area of the Management and Support workspace and click on the link that says Download Client Here. You can verify that you have downloaded the
latest package by viewing the properties of downloaded file as follows:

Select the file and display the property page

Select the Digital Signatures Tab and view Signature List

Locate Microsoft Corporation in the list and double-click it

The Signing Time on the displayed property page should be Nov 2010.

What happens if I carry on using the original installation package?
If the announcement is shown on the home page and you continue to use the original installation package after the date shown in the
message, you will not be able to successfully enroll agents into the AIS service. The installation will be successful, but when the agent attempts to enroll in the service, it will be rejected. The only way to correct this situation is to download the new

How do I know when my agent installation package will expire?
The following steps describe how to determine when an agent installation package was signed. If the current date is less than 3 years

    Locate the agent installation package

Select the installation package file and display the property page

If the Signing Time on the displayed property page is less than 3 years ago, then the package can still be used to install and enroll an agent.
Why does the certificate in the agent installation package expire after 3 years?
Certificates have an expiry date to reduce the time period available to an attacker. Three years was adopted as a reasonable balance
between renewing the agent installation packages and providing acceptable security for user accounts.

To add a virtual machines to the inventory, i need to browse datastore, go in to the the vm folder, right click on vmx file and add it to the inventory. If i have to do it for 100 virtual machines, that it takes very long time.

Is there a way i can add many virtual machines to the inventory collectively without doing it for each individual machine ?

    Friends Countrymen:

We need a more effective way of installing the Mac inventory agent on HUNDREDS of machines.

Does Novell have a white paper for Best Practices on creating an installer that can be distributed via ARD to hundreds of Macs at once? We simply can\'t go computer to computer and install the agent individually on each machine, manually entering the collection server.

I\'m using Composer (from JAMF) as a snapshot tool during the installation process, but I\'m having difficulty in determining which files I need to scrub or delete after we\'ve captured the software but BEFORE we distribute it.

Any help from the community would be super-groovy.

    Hi Guys,

We've recently had LANDesk installed for inventory of our machines.

We have 2 domains which are not int he same AD forest but are trusted with an external trust. OUr landesk core sits in domain 'A'.

I have pushed out Advance Agents from the Unmanaged Device Discovery tool with no problems however we want to deploy the agent using Active Directory.

I have set up a test OU and placed a machine account into this OU and assigned the 1mb MSI using a group policy object to this OU only. Upon reboot of the machine I can see it says the Advance agent is being installed and when I log in I can see the Landesk Advance Agent service has installed and is started. The problem is that the main agent is not being pulled down or installed by the mini agent. The agent I have pushed out is the agent that gets installed by default during the setup of LANDesk.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

DB:2.78:Computers In Cross Domain Get Advance Agent But Not The Full Agent pa

Thanks for the reply. I beleive this was an issue but I'm not sure if this is the only issue we are having as the deployment using active directory is taking a lot longer than I anticipated. Singular tests confirm it working to some degree but now my entire companies AD is using it, I expected there to be a bigger uptake in the client showing up in the Management Consol.

I know LANDesk says that is should have minimal impact on performance but does anyone have this enabled in their LANDesk agents for their machines?

I'd like to enable it on our default LANDesk agent configuration which affects about ~6000 machine. I have enabled it on a our test LANDesk core and didnt have any problems but just being overly cutious before enabling it.

Just curious if people have been using it without issue?

    DB:2.78:Enabling Real-Time Inventory And Monitoring 7j

I can say that so far this year I have not seen any negative impact from having these components installed. A few additional memory resident items do get loaded but not too many. The only time I have seen issues in the past is the occassional conflict with something else doing a similar job on the client. I'm not a massive fan of the whole alerting capability within the system and the web-browser access to these components is painfully slow. Inspector makes this a usable component even though it only exposes a hanful of capabilities. The capabilities it does expose though have made it worthwhile for the customers I've worked with so I'd recommend you at least do a pilot rollout of an agent config that has this enabled to measure impact vs. benefit for yourself.

    Hi there,

Hopefully someone can shed light on this.

I\'m trying to set up Inventory services using Zfd4.01 ir6 on a NW65sp5

server. We\'ve been using ZfD to deliver apps for several years so

workstations have been importing to the tree without any problems. Using the

Windows XP policy in an existing workstation package, I configured the

Inventory policy. This works fine, the scanner runs when the PC starts up

and shows the scan results on the Inventory Service screen on the Inventory

    server.

However, when the Workstation Inventory policy is enabled in the Windows

2000 workstation policy, using the same setting as the XP workstation

policy, the W2K PCs are not appearing on the Inventory Service screen. The

workstations are being imported into the tree, but the following error

    appears in the ZenErrors.log;

    Inventory Scanner:[0]: Initiated scan successfully.

    Inventory Scanner:[15]: Unknown connection type.

Trying to run the action from WMSched makes, no difference.

The only reference I can find in the knowledgebase is TID10093275, which

suggests that the Net Identity component of the client has not been

installed. However, it has. The same client is being used on the XP and the

W2K workstations (4.90sp1) and the XP machines are scanned without error.

    Thanks in advance.

DB:2.77:Thread: Inventory Scanner:[15]: Unknown Connection Type With W2k Pcs Butnot Xp Pcs mp

It appears that the workstations were using an earlier Management Agent

(4.01.26) whereas the server version is 4.01.60. This did not cause a

problem for XP workstations, but the W2K workstations could not be scanned

and inventoried until I put on the 4.01.60 management agent on them.

Thanks to the guys at salfordsoftware for their assistance.

    Hello,

I recently did a system update from 10.0.0 to 10.0.1. This went very

smooth following the related TID. I then updated to 10.0.2. Now at this

time my logic was that I would update the primary (only one) ZCM10 host

and then start on 10.0.2 while 10.0.1 propagated using another stage. For

whatever reason this didn\'t work. Consequently I have several wkstations

that when I look at their adaptive agents they are basically still 10.0.0

except the inventory mod which reflects the 10.0.2 update.

I guess what I\'m looking for is someone to tell me if this a problem or

not. Will the next release be cumulative with respect to agents? I.E, if

10.0.3 or later comes out will these machines update from 10.0.0 to that

release without an issue from Novell\'s perspective?

I set the scheduled task with the computers that need the agent and then I start the task. The machines moved to the "Active" section of the task and sit there for a while and then while they are still in the active part of the task the result field says "Cannot find agent"

Can anyone explain what is wrong here?

DB:2.76:Scheduled Push Of 9.0 Agent - Result Says "Cannot Find Agent" da

The Advance Agent will appear as a Windows service on the devices, and there should be a hidden temp folder being created on the devices in the location that is set within the agent configuration. You might start lookin at those two details to see what the heck is goin on. I know i've seen similar errors in agent deployments when i'm doing upgrades, but even with the errors the agents usually end up installed to devices that i know are actually there and turned on.

    Hello All,

The following error keeps happening in our German offices.

    The background:

    1. There was an agent installed that was connecting to our old LanDesk server. All was OK.

Server and agent version are both 8.8.

    2. A new LanDesk server has been installed, version 9.0 and a new agent has been configured for it.

    3. The old server has been shut down and the new agent has been deployed on all the managed machines.

The following error keeps happening on the machines that had the older agent installed before. The errors occure when an Inventory Scan is trying to go.

    Has anyone seen this before?

The one solution we found was to uninstall the older agent first, but that would be quite a big undertaking, so a fix would definitely be better.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bertalan

    Hi,

I've just got the same error here (searched and found your post), and it was because of file permissions on the NTFS filesystem - The VM directory was copied to another host for a couple of days and back.

When I opened the console, the VM was not shown, and trying to add it to the inventory gives this error, because after all it WAS there

Just took ownership of the directory/files, closed the console and opened again, and the VM was there.

Maybe it is the same problem with you.
