That sounds great. Windows, when you install it, already has the anti-spyware and firewall in place and simply asks you for anti-virus. Now it won't have to ask for anything! I was planning on trying and maybe buying One Care when my Norton subscription runs out, but free can be even better.

    DB:3.20:How Is It Working? 7j

    Hello,

May I apologise for what may sound a basic knowledge question about One Care but something is kind of unclear , actually two.
First is about the one care circle: My wife uses her laptop and we do not have the same windows live ID. Today I am trying the live one care and it seems very helpfull with network and printer sharing that is why i wish to install it on my wifes laptop. For the instalation I understand that we will need my Windows live ID for the same windows live subscription. Does this mean that for all the update and her laptop update I will have to make hers.
Second is about the log in. Does windows live one protection are still active even when I am not loged on windows live one care?

That is pretty all , in advance thank you...
    JS

    DB:3.20:How Is It Working? 7j

No need to apologize. These are good questions.
When you activate a OneCare subscription, that creates a billing account that is tied to the LiveID used to create the subscription. You then need to use this same LiveID for all subsequent activations. Using OneCare with that LiveID on your wife's PC has no impact on anything other than the status of OneCare and OneCare functionality. She would use her LiveID for anything she uses it for today - except for OneCare.
You don't log into OneCare. OneCare runs as a service for the protection and as a program for features and the interface. Once you have provided the LiveID to subscribe, you will only need to provide it again for things such as updating the backup plan or promoting a PC to hub status - and for reinstalling and reaching support. When your PC is powered up, OneCare protection is active before any user is logged in.

DB:3.08:Liveonecare Subscription Ending In June 31

One Care must be uninstalled prior to installing Microsoft Security Essentials. I don't know what Microsoft's future plans are but in my opinion we won't see a product like One Care. If you add malware protection most of the major One Care features such as firewall, backup, and maintenance are already included in most newer versions of Windows. If you decide to install Microsoft Security Essentials, first uninstall One Care, then run the install cleanup tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/399071e2-49dc-4767-932d-d261e3965943then install MSE. Wanted to install MSE got the error code:0x80070643. Looked in the logs and found it record as Live One Care installed. I had uninstalled it before trying to install MSE. I had also uninstalled Windows Defender. Down loaded the Live One Care removal tool
ran it, same error. Ran the registry manually No entries in the registry with defender, One Care, Onecare, Did a very extensive search of live and checked each entry. Still would not install MSE Client will completely install before the rollback its the
antimalware install log that says Live one care installed. Then Returns a value of 3 and starts the install rollback. After looking at every entry in the registry I decided to re install Live one care. The installation failed because it said defender was installed.
error 0020-. So I then tried to install defender to to see if it would install and then uninstall it again. The installation failed giving the error that live one care was installed and it needed to be removed. Ran the Live one care removal tool again tried
installing defender again with the same results. So now I'm in a catch 22. One can't install because of the other and so on. Any keys in the regisrtry tied to this without have defender or onecare in the data?

DB:2.89:Mse Wont Install Even After Running Live One Care Removal Tool. What Next dx

Ok guys here we go. I have already tried everything thats has been mentioned here. This all started with windows update not working. So I cleaned off every version of Net Framework. Install each version back taking no short cuts. This fix windows update.
Installed each version letting that version install each update before moving on to the next version. every version is now installed 1.0 to 4.0. Net framework is working correctly. Removed Live onecare because microsoft update offered Microssoft Security Essentials.
Ran every unstaller on the page list in the answer you gave me. Even the ones I know have never been installed. Then rean the one care clean up tool also. Spent two days running the registry manually and made sure each anti virus malware had no entries in
the registry. Searched by One Care, Onecare and Live. The live is all over the registry from windows live so you can get the feel of how much time I spent on this. The Ran C cleaner and it verified that there are no entries with One Care. My computer is not
infected with malware. Ran Microsost Malware scanner and it found none. Still MSE in the antimalware log says Live One Carefound Return value :3. So to prove this is a microsoft problem I cloned this drive to three other hard drives. Each drive comes back
with the same fault. Drive 2 I then load AVG 2012 free with no problems. Scanned the drive and it found no problems. Load drive 3 with Nortons free instaled it with the same results found no problems. Drive 4 Was loaded with AVG 2012 Free and Malware Bytes.
Both installed with no problems. Ran both full scans after completing the updates and neither found any problems of viruses or malware. So I then uninstalled the AVG from drive 2 ran the removal tool listed on the fore mentioned solution and tried to install
MSE. Again said Live One Care found. So I would say without a doubt your cleaner for One Care is not cleaning every key from the registry, plus your One Care uninstall is sorely lacking as well from all the entries I removed by manually running the registry.
I believe you need to take another look at the clean up tool. For now Drive 4 is in the computer for the protection.

The instructions for how to obtain the wireless network key above are only valid if OneCare configured wireless security and if performed from the PC that set wireless security.Your printer can be used as a network printer, but depending on the driver and software, some features may not be available without configuring the OneCare firewall. I suspect that you should follow the instructions from HP on how to add the printer to your network and how to conigure our computers to use the printer. Turn off the OneCare firewall if you encounter problems and confirm that it works with the OneCare firewall disabled. If so, that means that tweaking the firewall to allow communication with the printer is needed.-steve~ Microsoft MVP Windows Live ~ Windows Live OneCare| Live Mesh|MS Security Essentials Forums Moderator ~

You can't change the ID used for your subscription.  On the first PC, open OneCare and click Help and then About to see your Subscription ID. That is the LiveID to sign in with.

If the activation dialog already contains a LiveID from a prior attempt or one used in trial mode, but this is not the one you need to activate with to associate it with your subscription, see this post for how to reset this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2776450SiteID=2

If you don't know the password for that subscription LiveID, or the subscription LiveID used by Circuit City is not shown in Help/About, you can contact support to identify and reset the LiveID if you have the retail key from the original installation.
Circuit City should have given you a paper with the LiveID and password used for the subscription setup.

Even re-phrased, the answer pretty much remains the same.  With the exception of the Backup function, currently there is no way to turn off the protective components of OneCare including the Anti-virus function and not get both a red status indicator and repeated warning messages.  Not having any idea of what the red status means negates the ability of OneCare to alert you to a severe problem, since visually it would look like your usual OC/A-V was turned off with AVG substitued red status.

I am trying to install optional Windows components via my Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade setup disc and I get  persistant error messages covering multiple DLL files that are not found and that I should insert the SP-2 Disc, (and after purchasing the SP-2 disc from the Windows Marketplace and re-installing SP-2), I'd get the same error message instructing me to insert the SP-2 disc to retrieve the files needed to install the Optional Windows components, which I did and without satisfactory results.

I downloaded the SP-3 fix and tried to then install the Optionalk Windows components, only to revieve a new error message instructing me to insert the SP-3 Disc and retrieve the files from that location.

The only common denominator in all of these problematic attempts to install Optional Windows components from my Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade Setup Disc is my Windows Live One Care. Prior to installation of my Windows Live One Care PAID subscription, I could flawlessly install Optional Window Components from my XP Upgrade Disc.

What is causing Window Live One Care to interfer with my use of my compatible Windows XP product that should have precedence over it?

DB:2.84:Installing Optional Windows Xp Components Are Stemied. ax

I moved your thread to the General folder and out of Off Topic, where you posted, since you are a OneCare user. However, I agree with Jim that this isn't a OneCare issue.
I suspect that your Windows installation was originally pre SP2 and has been updated to SP2 via Windows Update. For that reason, the original installation media and the PC are out if sync with each other. I also suspect that you have a disc that contains only the SP2 files and not a full SP2 version of Windows XP Home. I recommend following up on this in the Windows XP newsgroups for further help, assuming that turning off OneCare does not resolve the problem.

By uninstalling your anti-virus program(s) in Windows Add or Remove Programs. Also you may need to use a clean-up tool from the vender’s web site if any or Windows clean-up utility

My Live One Care subscription renewed in May and I was charged the $49 for the renewal of my subscription for another year.  As I was charged for the renewal, I understand I will have support for the next year.  I just tried to add Live One Care to a new computer that I just purchased and when I click on add another computer, I am brought to a screen that says End of One Care Sale and the only link that is available to click on is Install the free trial of Windows Live One Care.  As a I have a paid subscription, I am supposed to be entitled to install Live One Care on three computers.  I already have it installed on two computers so I should be able to install it on my new computer and have it supported until my subscription runs out next May.  Also, another thought comes to mind is that I would not be able to reinstall Live One Care on my other two computers if something happens where I would have to uninstall and reinstall.  I have had some problems in the past where I had to uninstall Live One Care and reinstall it.  Now that capability isn't available for me either.  Can someone help me regarding this problem?

    Help is despeartely needed!

    DB:2.82:Live Writer Live Mail 1x

Greg, Chuck's suggestion to contact support for the other Windows Live applications is sound. However, I think you may want to try checking your IE settings. Tools/Internet Options/Connections. Make sure that automatically detect on the LAN Settings dialog, is not checked.
A more brute force approach in IE7 is to go to the Advanced tab and select the option to reset everything to default.
Since you have encountered the same problem with OneCare installed, the firewall off, and OneCare removed, I believe it is a problem with your connection settings. Best of luck to you,

    DB:2.82:One Care After Windows 7 3a

I just ran the Windows 7 Update Tool and it has come back to say I need to uninstall Live One Care before I upgrade to Windows 7.  I use Live One Care backup to automatically back up my hard drive.  When I install the pre-order Win 7 in Oct after removing Live One Care will there be something in Win 7 to do the back up or will I have to buy another backup utility? Since my subscription to Live One Care runs through Jan or 2010 and I install Win 7 in Oct, will there be some sort of refund? Thanks.

    DB:2.82:One Care After Windows 7 3a

Will you be upgrading from Vista or doing a clean install of Windows 7 from XP or Vista? If you currently use Vista, you can upgrade to Windows 7.If you do a clean install, the best thing to do is to use the Easy Tranfer wizard (I forget what it is called in Win7). You migrate the files and settings to an external drive using a utility on the Win7 DVD. After installing Windows 7, you use the same utility to restore the data. It copies over the profiles and settings very well.I would suggest backing up your most critical data via another method - just in case - if you are doing a fresh install, wiping everything out. You will be able extract files manually from your OneCare backups using WinZip or a 3rd party tool, but that is a painful process. There will be no refund if you stop using OneCare before the subscription ends. Note that OneCare itself is at end of life and will be unsupported after the end of 2010. Sales of OneCare are slated to end at retail on 6/30/09. A free virus scanning application built on the same technology is currently being beta tested. It will work on Windows 7.-steveMicrosoft MVP Windows Live / Windows Live OneCare, Live Mesh, MS Security Essentials Forums Moderator

Yes, you will need to remove OneCare, then use the OneCare removal tool.
Then, restart each machine and install MSE from
    www.microsoft.com/security_essentials .
MSE will use the Windows Firewall.
To print, you will have to turn on File and Printer Sharing, and then share the printer(s). Others on the network workgroup will see the printers.
No, you must remove OneCare completely.

When I go threw the install disk, click on custom, there is 3 check boxes for FinalCut Express, Soundtrack, Live Type, but it will not let me select Live Type to install it, only the other 2 boxes it says upgrade. What do I need to do to get Live Type back on my computer?

If there's anything in the /Library/Receipts/ folder relating to any component of Final Cut, drag that receipt to the desktop and then try installing LiveType again. Regardless of whether or not you were able to reinstall LiveType, move the receipts on your desktop back to the Receipts folder unless each receipt was recreated during the installation.
Another option is to use Pacifist to extract the LiveType components from the installation disk.

I am running a 32 bit version of vista business. I am trying to install windows 7 but keep getting the message to delete windows live one care. Windows live one care is not listed with the programs that can be uninstalled. The one care clean up tool when
used reports that it has sucssfully removed the program, but when I attempt to upgrade to windows 7, I get the message that Windows Live One Care must be removed. Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

DB:2.77:How To Uninstall Windows Live One Care ma

If Windows Live OneCare does not uninstall as expected, download the Windows Live OneCare cleanup utility -http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/399071e2-49dc-4767-932d-d261e3965943/and
follow the program instructions to completely uninstall.

    Note
You will be prompted to restart your computer. You must restart your computer in order to completely uninstall Windows Live OneCare.

    DB:2.77:Upgrade Problem Online c7

I have been trying to upgrade to the galaxy s5 and gear fit package for the past two weeks online and I keep getting an error message at checkout.I have exhausted all methods of contacting cust care via phone email and live chat only to be sent around in circles. Vodafone Customer Care team is a joke, and if this problem is not rectified this time I will be swicthing to another network provider. I would certainly not recommend Vodafone to anybody because of customer services as this is not the first time ive had difficulties with them.

DB:2.77:Uninstall Windows Live One Care 8s

I am running a 32 bit version of vista business. I am trying to install windows 7 but keep getting the message to delete windows live one care. Windows live one care is not listed with the programs that can be uninstalled. The one care clean up tool
when used reports that it has sucssfully removed the program, but when I attempt to upgrade to windows 7, I get the message that Windows Live One Care must be removed. Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

The cleanup tool should remove it completely. Personally, I'd not upgrade to Win7, but perform a clean installation and use the Easy Transfer wizard to migrate settings and data from Vista to Win7 using an external USB drive. it will require installation
of all programs on the new Win7 install, but it will be a much cleaner system and a faster process.
I suspect that there may be some leftover registry entries for Windows Live OneCare or perhaps program or data folders, though I imagine that the upgrade is seeing running processes or the registry. You aren't running ForeFront, are you? It has shared components
to OneCare. What security are you running? Have you also removed that? You should for an OS upgrade.
You can get help from the MSE Support techs for the removal of OneCare detrius as it inhibits the install of MSE. When you contact them, advise that MSE fails to install on Vista due to it reporting that OneCare is still installed. ;-)

DB:2.77:Message From Windows Live One Care Missing Updates f8

I purchased my lap top in April of this year, I keep getting a message from Windows Live One Care stating there are missing updates and to install them, is this something I should do and if I do will I be charged for them and is it safe to do

DB:2.77:Message From Windows Live One Care Missing Updates f8

I moved your post to the Tune-up forum as this is the part of OneCare that is advising you about the missing updates.Go to Windows Update (in Vista, type Windows Update in the search box by the Start orb...) and download and install all missing critical and important updates. You do not need to install optional updates. Yes, you need to do this for OneCare to go back to green and to insure that your PC is secure.-steveMicrosoft MVP Windows Live / Windows Live OneCare Live Mesh Forum Moderator

DB:2.77:Cant Uninstall Windows Live Onecare --Thus Cant Upgrade To Windows 7 ms

Windows Live One care appears to be malfunctioning or I have a virus. In any case, I can't get on the internet (my other two computers both wired and wireless have no problem) and I have no access to my network from my main computer. When I tried to install
Windows 7 (I have Vista now) it said it could not install because of Windows Live OneCare. The Uninstall program from Control Panel Programs and Features will not work, it hangs up, when the uninstall programs tries to get rid of One Care. Help me remove
the program. Where are the files for direct removal. PS. I can access my network and the internet in Safe Mode but I can't uninstall OneCare in Safe Mode OR install Windows 7from Safe Mode. Help!
