Is there a setting I should change? Have localhost alias as comcast or something?

Check your sendmail configuration, make sure "localhost" is in the list of domains it should deliver locally.

    Hi,

We are running GW7SP1 GWIA on netware 6.5 SP6. This has run quit good for

almost a year. Now lately users are reporting that they get 550 relaying

denied messages the first time they send a mail and when they send it the

second time it is fine. Besides that I see a lot of greylisting messages

appearing in the GWIA Log (see below):

My question is, are all these problems related to the recipients side, or

could there be something wrong in the groupwise system ? Should I tune some

settings to prevent or lessen these messages ?

    Regards,

    Hen.

    ha yes.

when I originally sent this I was doing it w/out paying attention and doing other things at the same time. when i get the relaying error i do check dns stuff and test out our domain, the domain of the recipient and they\'re always the ones w/the unsuccessful connection so it\'s obviously them and not us. so i guess i\'ll have to worry when we get a 550 5.7.1 error and i check dns stuff and it shows that the recipient is fine and we\'re not or we\'re both fine

I'm no IT admin, but I happen to be 'cornered' into doing this troubleshooting. 2 of the users are now housed in another building much further away, so a different network and connection was
set-up for them. That's when we encountered the issue of them being unable to send e-mails out, but receiving incoming mails is fine. They can connect to Internet and use their web base mails.
13 users: On ADSL broadband, LAN connection wireless [Everything worked as normal]
2 users: On 3G router, LAN connection [unable to send out emails through Outlook]

I have tried the method mentioned by Bhargav in the other posts (as in My Outgoing server SMTP requires authentication), but it does not work for me.

Any advice on what else I can do. Thanks in advance.

For legacy reason, we set up our Groupwsie with 2 domain, the old one and the new one. Groupwise accept email from both old and new adresses. The default domain is the new one, and outgoing emails are sent using the new domain.

When we try to use an internal multifonction printer that allow send-to-email, when we use the new addresses as destination, it says Relaying denied, but it works using the old addresses.

It\'s not going thru any anti-spam, which only protect from the internet.

On the internal DNS, both domains are configured and point to the same server. Ex: groupwise.cegepgim.ca and groupwise.cgaspesie.qc.ca

Both domains have entries on the DNS as MX, with different priorities

    Any idea why?

DB:4.06:Thread: Relaying Denied,On A Multiple Domain Server cz

Today, without any changes and without any reason, it switched. Now the new domain works, and the old domain doesn\'t.

I did add the new domain a few months ago. It was a lot of searching thru ConsoleOne and a lot of trial and error to make it work. I don\'t remember every step. If I go under Tools/Internet adressing : I have 2 domains, and the new one being selected as default. Anything else I should check?

Is there a config file that I could post?

These are relay errors, mostly related to the account configuration.
First thing to check would be to see if the outgoing server has been properly authenticated or not.

DB:3.89:Relaying Denied, Must Check Email Before Sending. Help m7

Relaying is trying to send an email through your ISP whenyou are not connected via your ISP (if you are in an Internet cafe or similar). In such cases, your ISP blocks the sent message as some have used that for spamming people in the past. So if you
are connected to the Internet through some other source than your ISP, you cannot send messages. You might try contacting your ISP and telling them the issue and see if they have a resolution for you (some have special settings you can use). Or it could
be just a glitch on the ISP's side, so its a good idea to contact them anyway.

Hi,'relaying denied' is (usually) sent from an MTA when it is not the final destination for the domain of the email being sent, and does not have any policies in place to forward the message on to its final destination. The fact that this was a DCID ( delivery connection ) implies that the IronPort was attempting to send a message to Exchange/Notes/etc.. and that server responded that it could not process email for the domain in question.-whardison

Hello all, I have a fortigate firewall, and a groupwise 8 server. Recently, I rebuilt our groupwise 8 server, and put it behind my firewall, on a protected VLAN. I then NAT\'d a virtual IP, on the fortigate, to the Groupwise 8 server. My old email address for the server was 199.xxx.xxx.xxx, so I nat\'d that address to an internal address, IE:

    199.216.xxx.xxx -' + '-10.10.10.xxx

Everything works great, the world can see it, except that...Something weird is happening with sending..If I leave relaying off, I get a message when people send internally to an external email address:

    550 relaying denied

If I add an exception, that allows relaying from the VLAN Gateway..then everything is fine, IE:

    Allow email from-' + '- 10.10.10.xx

to me this seems odd that I should have to do this...as well, recently, while relaying was on, our network was attacked from china..and since I had allowed relaying from 10.10.10.xx so that mail would be forwarded, all the mail coming in from my nat\'s address 199.216.xxx.xxx - 10.10.10.xx was let thourgh, because tachnically, the NAT\'d address, comes thorugh to this network, and relay allowed it.

So there lies my issue...not sure how to fix this...I really need to NOT allow these bozo\'s in, but I\'m not sure why I need relaying in the first place...

I don't know why it has changed, but it could be that your email provider has changed their settings.

Check their website for email settings, most ISPs will have a section telling you exactly what settings you require for Outlook.

The SMTP server you are using is not allowing relays. A "relay" is when the destination recipient belongs to a domain not managed by the SMTP server. This is a standard configuration for mail servers as it prevents misuse (usually by spammers). If you have control over the mail server, you can either configure it to allow relays (not recommended), or configure it to allow relays for all clients who successfully "authenticate". Then use the authentication APIs that come with JavaMail.

EG, with the SMTPTransport class that comes with the com.sun.mail.smtp package:

    transport.connect(smtp server address, username,password);
    message.saveChanges();// don't forget this
    transport.sendMessage(message, recipients);

Got the DNS to work with multiple webpages.

DB:3.79:Relaying Denied. Ip Name Lookup Failed sd

OS X Server requires DNS services on your LAN. That means local DNS services, and not references out to ISP DNS. OS X Server gets squirrelly if it doesn't have local and valid DNS, as do many other recent servers, as DNS is a fundamental part of network authentication and security. To check DNS, launch Applications Utilities Terminal.app and issue the following non-disruptive diagnostic command:sudo changeip -checkhostnameEnter your administrative password when prompted. That command will show information about the host, and then an indication that there are no changes required, or that there are issues with the DNS or host name set-up.Here are details on how to set up DNS services on OS X Server. With 10.8, you'll likely need to use Server.app and the "advanced" tab stuff in the DNS set-up, but the rest is similar.I recommend spending the US$10 per year and getting a real and registered domain name for your LAN.Once DNS is sorted out, your mail server will need to know its internal network name and its external name, as if the host doesn't know its own names, it'll think the message is a relay and (if properly configured) reject the message. You don't want to become an open relay, as those open relays will be found and your network link and your server will become filled with folks shipping spam through your server. If all you're doing is sending mail from php, then you can shut down the mail server and install and configure something like phpmailer tool.FWIW(1): You've expurgated details, so I can't check your public DNS set-up.FWIW(2): The server.com domain is a real and registered domain, and probably not one you have registered. If you're really using that, please don't. If you've used that to substitute for the domain you're using, please consider using the example.com, example.org or example.net domain names; the domains that are reserved for this usage, and reserved for use in documentation.

Since I don't know what you did, it's hard to tell what you did wrong.

Did you authenticate to your server? (Are you sure? Check the protocol trace.)

Is your From address an address on the server that you're using to send your message?

Have you checked with your server administrator to find out why your server isn't configured
to relay the messages you're sending?

How secure is relaying mail when you select authorization is required?

    DB:3.52:Smtp Pop3 Relaying 7d

SMTP_AUTH (username/password required) is very secure. Every email message sent must be authenticated. Even more so if you use SSMTP (ssl encrypted smtp, port 465)

POPlocking, or pop before relaying is considerably less so, and poses some spam issues when youre using ISPs with proxy servers, like AOL. Basically you whitelist the originating IP, which in the case of a proxy server like AOL could mean thousands of users can now relay mail through your server.

I think it could be a DNS issue. For example same named.nlm versions caused

exactly this behaviour as they were not able to respond correctly to some

I am running Groupwise 7 and I use Gwava for viruses/spam. I recently

changed ISP providers (this past weekend) so I have a new public IP. I am

getting some 550 relaying denied messages when users try to send email.

This is not all the time as I have sent/received email outside the

school. I have a Sonicwall that handles the NAT translation as the

Groupwise server has a private IP. Is there anywhere else within the

configuration of the server that I may need to update?

    DB:3.45:Thread: Erro-550-Relaying Denied xs

Has anyone found a cure for this. I installed GW 7sp1 from GW 6.5.6. I

have had this random problem since then. If a user gets an

undeliverable message and then goes to the sent item and resends it, it

generally goes through. I thought that it was only with emails being

sent to multiple domains but today we had one that was to a single

person. Even though it has the same error (550 Relaying Denied) it

might not be a part of this puzzle. It does seem very much like GWIA is

getting confused at times and not looking for the next domain ip or not

noticing that it has moved to another domain.

    Any Help would be great.

I had a user complain that they received this message when sending to another internal user.

The message that you sent was undeliverable to the following:

    receiver3@lionel (550 Relaying denied)

    Possibly truncated original message follows:

Here is the mime header info with the users names changed. As you can see receiver3 was cc\'ed on the message but shows up using his internet name only where everyone else shows up with ther full name in quotes then their internet address. The relay denied only shows denied for the one user. The sender was probably using webaccess to send this and webaccess is in a secondary domain.

Any ideas why this would be considered relaying since its all internal?

What the web says is not relevant. (Ok, it\'s not irrelevant, but it\'s

not definitive) What your DNS lookup from YOUR box says is whats

relevant. So do an MX lookup there. Don\'t assume the mxtoolbox.com has

received records in the same order or functino as your DNS. In THEORY

they are the same. In practice, not always.

The 550 is definitely coming from mrelay-03-ana.paetec.net . So they

definitely have something whacked. In fact if you telnet on port 25 you

find out they have it set up NOT to receive messages from anyone.

In which case they simply shouldn\'t be advertising it in an MX record.

    Period.

The error message is from your email provider telling you that you have not authenticated with them. As a consequence they will not send your email until you do authenticate. Normally this is done by checking for new incoming email before sending - hence
    the message you are getting.

Check your email account setup against their recommended settings for outlook.

(Most ISPs have a web page giving you the settings) Very often selecting 'use the same settings as incoming' will do the trick. (I do not have the ability to check the exact wording at the moment as I only have access to an exchange account.)

Do you have *more then one ip addres* on you GWIA server?

In GW 7 it is possible to bind one specific address to the GWIA, set it to

the correct address and reload (exit load!) the GWIA.

ps. you should also see what ip address is getting bloked in the GWIA

I don't remember if the FAQ mentions this, but in general if you don't understand why an SMTP server is behaving the way it is behaving, then go and talk to the administrator of that server. Guessing isn't as good as talking to somebody who knows the system and can find out things about it.

It could be an ISP issue. When you send mail the server takes it that you are actually trying to relay. This is because the return address and the real name don't match.

    DB:3.38:Thread: 550 Relaying Denied c1

I *think* this problem is resolved with one of the FTFs. We had a similar

problem: user sends internet email and some occassionally get a \'Relaying

Denied\' error. When I checked the GWIA log, it was trying to relay to

127.0.0.1 (loopback address). Since we have open relaying turned off, it

    was failing.

One of the FTFs addressed a problem where \'GWIA was trying to relay to

itself\'. I don\'t recall which version did this, but it should be in the

patch notes on the latest one. We are running the latest FTFs and don\'t

    have this problem anymore.

Is there anything different about the 1% of the messages that get through? Without seeing the recieving mail settings, permit and deny lists, knowing how you are sending from and to, and what your sending IP address is, there isn't much I can do to say why a particular message was or was not allowed.

Is that coming from my mailer-daemon or the recipients of where we are

Well, you coud start with telling us a tiny little bit about the

we\'ve not seen that issue here in a long time, so unless you\'re running

    Hi Forum,

Indeed. If it works differently internally as compared to externally, then

I understand how relay errors occur while trying to send email through one's ISP from another domain; however this seems to be coming from our own Exchanger Server 2003.

I had this error a couple of weeks ago to a different domain, again, it appeared out of the blue after having sent emails to that domain.  I added all internal IPs to the allowed relay and that seemed to fix it.

    Any help?

Often mail servers will require you to authenticate before they will relay messages. So you might try that. But really what you should do is contact the

When I am anywhere but my home office and i try to send an email, i get this message and the send message fails: "Relaying denied. IP name possibly forged". Im on an HP Lap Top, using Windows 7, Outlook. I get email fine, I just cant send email.
Anyone know what to do to enable messages to go through?

I believe this is a problem related to your ISP. Some ISP do not allow you to use external SMTP to send email.

DB:3.24:Relaying Denied From Localhost And Domains Hosted On Server dk

Fresh install of Plesk with Postfix, receiving Relaying denied errors from localhost and from domains and IP addresses hosted on the server thru Plesk... tried uninstalling/reinstalling postfix which did not work, qmail was broken also. Digging found that /etc/postfix/main.cf had nothing defined in mynetworks, ie.

    mynetworks =

Manually adding 127.0.0.1 and the IP addresses of the server to that line and restarting postfix appears to solve the issue, but it seems that something is broken as shouldnt Plesk by default enable local emails? I am concerned that future updates or changes to Postfix thru the Panel may reset this back to broken..

Centos 6.6 64bit with Plesk 12.0.18 with all latest microupdates applied.

Any insight as to why this may be happening and how to permanently resolve? Thanks!

DB:3.24:Can't Send Mail, Getting Relaying Error. j1

For the last 4 days I've been able to send and receive email via Outlook from my Comcast account when I was online with an AOL dial-up connection. Then all of a sudden this afternoon I am not able to send email and I'm getting this error message:

    --------------------

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Server response: 550.5.7.1. Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed. (Account 'My Account' SMTP Server 'smtp.comcast.net', Error Number 0x800ccc79)

    ---------------------

What changed that suddenly I cannot do what I'd been doing for several days? Nothing on my end changed. Is there something I can do about it?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

You are accessing smtp.comcast.net from outside the Comcast network ( is an AOL ip address). To do that you must use SMTP authentication using your Comcast userid and password. If you do not, you can't send email through smtp.comcast.net.

So turn on outgoing authentication and have a ball.

DB:3.24:Troubles After Move Exchange Server: Relaying Denied Ip Name Loopuk Failed jj

    Hi,

Might be a newbie question... We physically moved our exchange server to another location. The system got a another public ip address (say 12.23.34.45). If we want to send an email we got the message: Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed (12.23.34.45).
Never had that problem on the old location with another public ip address (98.87.76.65). Move back is not an option. Never needed to specify 98.87.76.65 previously (can't remember). Anybody an idea how to solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gerard

Do you use an antivirus for your email client? If you really connect to your server, make sure that the settings is Plesk-Settings-Mail are correct and you use POP3 before SMTP authentication.

User cannot reply to external recipient from Treo 650 (Cingular) with
