    DB:5.99:Fluid Grid Layout Guides With Twitter Bootstrap? 83

    I want to take advantage of the fluid grid layout guides with preset number of columns but I want to use the twitter bootstrap files instead of the integrated DW bootstrap files. Can this be done? Seems using "New fluid grid layout" forces us to use DW's files and if I just start a new blank page and bring in the twitter bootstrap files, the fluid grid layout guides don't do anything.

    You may want to invest some time in researching some of the online and offline grid tools. For example, Pinegrow does what you want and works with bootstrap, Foundation (and any other framework potentially).

    I struggled with this as well. On the container div tag I added padding then an equal amount of negative margin. Here is the code:

    #coming_soon_1 {

    width: 100%;

    background-color: #483D30;

    height: 450px;

    padding-left: 3000px;

    margin-left: -3000px;

    padding-right: 3000px;

    margin-rght: -3000px;

    Working with Fluid Grid Layout Div Tags, is there a way to have a larger fluid tag float to the right of more than one Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag. I want it to act almost like a table where you may have a larger cell (merged from smaller cells) aside several smaller cells (vertical). This seems to be governed by rows only and will not allow for any exceptions. Thanks in advance for your help. There is still very little information available.

    DB:3.36:Fluid Grid Layout jm

    Thank you for your response. It isn't the snapping that appears to be the problem. This is an example of what I'm trying to do. Excel was the best way for me to provide a visual. Is this possible? Every time I try to place divs in a similar layout, the div will not take up multiple rows. For example div 4 would move down and where row 7 is would now be row 4. Div 2 would have also moved down because of 5. I have a large image that needs to be placed to the left of a header and vertical menu. I'm trying to keep the header and menu seperate and the image needs to be aligned to the top left of the text. I'm sorry that I'm overcomplicating this. I must admit it surprises me that the fluid grid appears to be dictated by rows. I'm wondering if for this particular design I should just stick to a table.

    Hello guys

    I recently made a website, however I didn't use the grid fluid layout system.

    I'm now rebuilding the same site but using the grid fluid system.. The problem I have is I used div tags with background images repeated(for the design) now I'm doing the same thing in the grid fluid system but the images I use for the div tags isn't resizing and is staying the images full resolution(footer on the screenshot).

    However, if I use images in the image tag.. the image resizes perfectly as you can see on the head and nav bar images in the screenshot.

    Also I'd like to use the div background option as I can put text over the background whereas on the img tag on the nav bar I can't.

    The background images are important for the design, is there a work around on this?

    I'm using the fluid grid layout. I have multiple columns that are actually fluid grid layout columns done by Dreamweaver. I'd like them to extend as high as each other (all to the maximum height of each other) within the same section. An added catch is that in the desktop layout, I have three side by side under one that takes the whole width of the page. On tablet size, it's 2x2 in a square grid. On mobile, they're vertically stacked. I'm trying to get it so that background colour and/or borders looks decent and is fully balanced, no matter which layout is hit with the fluid layout. The columns reflow, no problem. But the height of any background and/or border is variable. Any help on fixing this? Example at: https://music2help.thoughtburst.net/ The example doesn't have borders or colours, as it looked silly unbalanced. The music2help.css is the only one I'm modifying manually.Love the fluid grid layout, but I need a way to make it behave decently with backgrounds/borders. Any help would be hugely appreciated!Thanks!mark-

    DB:2.84:Need Help With Fluid Grid Layout And Variable Column Balance. d9

    With a menu you need to reflow it, just like you do any other element. There are different approaches depending on the menu type. This is an example I did for a customer (actually on that same forum thread I pointed you to):http://www.projectseven.com/testing/customers/debic-forum/Just look at the media queries to see how I did it. It would work with any list-based horizontal menu.Another approach that works, but only for a single-level menu, is to use a scrollable list. It would be very complex to do with jQuery, but it is a built-in feature of our tabbed panel widget:http://www.projectseven.com/products/tools/tpm2/demos/If you notice, some of the tabs simply change panels, while others are live links. The UI allows tabs to be set as links only - with no associated content panel so it can be used just as a menu.-- Al Sparber - PVIIhttp://www.projectseven.comThe Finest Dreamweaver Menus | Galleries | WidgetsSince 1998

    DB:2.78:How Do I Create Tables In Fluid Grid Layout To Specify Content Placement? c3

    Tables are not conducive to Fluid layouts because tables cannot resize beyond a certain point. Thus they don't respond to all device widths. We've examined some workarounds in this forum. Some are better than others but as osgood said, it all depends on how complex your tables are. Generally speaking, I try to avoid using any tables in Fluid layouts. If I have tabular data, I sometimes use definition lists.

Each time I go to add a new transition, Dreamweaver stops working and shuts down. Should you be able to use the transitions function with CS6 transitions or not? In the end, what I want to do is create a behaviour where one image is swapped with another with a click (not a rollover as it won't work on mobiles, I believe).Thank you

    Hello,

    I just created a simple fluid grid layout with Dreamweaver CS6, but there is a problem in Internet Explorer.

    IE 9 shows it right.

    When I start IE 9, I press F12 to get to the developer panel. When I switch to IE 7 / 8, the layout crashes. There are no background colors and text styles anymore.

    Later I will upload some screenshots.

    All other browser work fine.

    Where is the problem here?

    DB:2.76:Fluid Grid Layout Guides And Elements Are Suddenly Gone 8d

    Im working in Dreamweaver CC and trying to build a fluid grid layout from scratch. Everything works fine for a while then I notice that suddenly all the grid guides are gone, the icon (next to the Live button) that allows me to toggle the fluid grid guides on and off is gone, and when I try to insert a new div tag(within the "gridContainer clearfix" tag), the dialog box that opens does not have the option to insert as fluid element. Even when I click within a div in my page, the usual options that surround the div are gone as well. Its as if Dreamweaver doesnt recognize the page as a fluid grid layout, but when I preview the html, it is still responsive and looks like it is supposed to.

    Does anyone know what couldve changed that might cause this?

    I even called Adobe and the tech support guy told me they are not trained in CSS and could not help me. I would think Adobe would be familiar with CSS right?

    If anyone has any suggestions that would be great?

    DB:2.76:Fluid Grid Layout Guides And Elements Are Suddenly Gone 8d

    I Seemed to have found a source of my problem.

    I currently work on a home network with my files located on another computer on the network. This seems to be my problem. If I create a new fluid grid layout and save the main CSS the HTML file on the other network computer, I can work with the page fine until I try to save and close the html then re-open it. That's when all the FG settings go away... the grid, the FG div handles, and the ability to import div's as "fluid elements" is not available.

    Once I save my files locally and work on just my computer, everything seems to work fine, so far at least. I guess I can't work on my FG website over my network.

    I'm not sure if my FG problems are a bug, but either way I've found a work around at least.

    First, let me explain once again that I can't reply to my own threads because the "Reply" function isn't working in my browsers for some reason. (Thanks for your tips on my other questions, Ben Pleysier and Nancy O.)

    Anyway, I want to modify my websites so they work in mobile devices, and I now have my first Fluid Grid Layout up and running. However, there are some bugs I need to work out.

    I experimented with two or three fluid grids and just realized that they're very different for some reason. I think I inserted the wrong elements or inserted them in the wrong location.

    Does the HTML code below look OK? I understand that everything is supposed to be inside div.gridContainer, which begs the question why are the last two divs (div.fluid and div#div1) OUTSIDE div.gridContainer? Are these extraneous divs that I can delete?

    Am I supposed to have a div#page and div data-role="header"?

    It looks like all my actual content - including the footer? - should go inside div data-role="content", right? And am I going to have to apply class="fluid Paragraph" to every paragraph in my database tables?

    Some of the confusion may be because some of these unfamiliar elements (e.g. "data-role") may be HTML5, which I'm also just learning about.

    If anyone could post a link to a web page(s) using Dreamweaver's Fluid Grid Layout, so I can examine the source code, it would be really helpful. Thanks!

    #1 Success with FGLayouts comes from experience. I built 9 test layouts before I got an acceptable one. A few tips. Build Mobile first because that is what everything else is based on. Then build Tablet finally Desktop. Do not tamper with code in FluidGrid.css or Boilerplate.css files. Use a separate, external style sheet for your content styles.

    #2 Depends on whether or not you want the divs to fall outside your #gridContainer. For example, let's say you want a 100% width header footer that stretches the entire width of your page in all devices. In that scenario, you would have to move header and footer tags above and below gridContainer div. Otherwise, everything else needs to be inside the gridContainer in order to respond to the media queries.

    #3 APDivs will not work right in FluidGrid Layouts -- or any RWD for that matter -- so don't even go there.

    Two browsers I have found that display it properly are Chrome and Safari. I don't have Firefox on any machines so I haven't tested there yet.

    Suppose you wanted to build a web site for an on line medical educaton for third world countries who do not have any resources. So every resource they need has to be on line. Lets have each college build one and maintain one part.

    My project is smaller than that, but has the same logistical issues. It is how to put a 7 year horsemanship apprenticeship on line. I need to build the structure to handle the content. My defunct web site was about 5 years of work and had 30GB of flash videos in an xsite pro platform. I am working on the second generation website on a DW platform. It is a pardiigm shift for the horse industry and I am just buildling a framework so hopfully that shift to occur. It is a long shot. It is tough to take a seven year process and build an education process around that.

    Hi all,

    I created a "fluid" layout for a site and realized that the iPhone 5, in landscape mode, is 480 pixels, so the "tablet" layout is applied.

    Have you encountered this issue as well? How to solve it? I thought I might modify the CSS media query and define the tablet as 536 but maybe some-one has a more elegant solution?

    And, in general, when is a phone really a tablet?

    Bootstrap from Twitter suggests four types of widths.

    /* Large desktop */@media (min-width: 1200px) { ... } /* Portrait tablet to landscape and desktop */@media (min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 979px) { ... } /* Landscape phone to portrait tablet */@media (max-width: 767px) { ... } /* Landscape phones and down */@media (max-width: 480px) { ... }

    In this framework (which is very similar to DW's fluid grid: it has a class called "clearfix" which suggests me something), under 768 it's still a phone... Is IT? What do you think?

    DB:2.64:The Iphone 5 In Landscape Mode Is A Tablet For The Fluid Grid Layout ka

    Smartphones are getting bigger. Tablets are getting smaller. So there's bound to be some overlap between devices. I just don't see this as a problem. Nor should you.

    I've followed James Williamson's video tutorial on fluid grid layouts http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs6/using-fluid-grid-layouts/ and have created something similar.

    Williamson gives his DIVs fairly standard ID names. He starts with "header", ends with "footer" and places three DIVs in between: "article", "interview" and "artwork" (around 6:20 in the video).

    The desktop layout is a standard three column layout with a header and footer while in the mobile layout all the divs stack up one on top of the other.

    In Williamson's tablet layout, he adjusts the width of the DIVs so two site below the header ("article" and "interview") and he makes the third ("artwork") span the full width (he shows the three layouts in a browser from 15.00 to 15.20 in the video).

    What I would like to do in the tablet layout is have the third column ("artwork") sits below "article" while the middle div, "interview" (which in my case is taller, due to having more content) sits to the right of them both.

    Is this possible using DW6's fluid layout grid, or would I have to create the layout manually from scratch?

    DB:2.64:Repositioning Divs In A Dw6 Fluid Grid Layout 9s

    eddieduggan wrote:

    I was a bit surprised when I couldn't just drag a layout div where I wanted it in the tablet view. Maybe that'll be possible in DW CS7.

    I doubt it. The old layout tables in Dreamweaver created horrendous spaghetti code. The aim now is to create standards-compliant code. CSS just hasn't got the capability to support that type of drag-and-drop layout.

    It might change a bit further down the line when browsers support the CSS3 Flexible Box Layout and Grid Layout modules. So far, Chrome is the only browser with support for the final flex syntax. It's going to be several years before you can use CSS3 flex and grid properties. And it's by no means certain that Adobe (or any other software manufacturer) will be able to devise a drag-and-drop layout tool that produces high quality code.

    I was told today, in Chat, by Technical Support, that it was a compatibility issue between Dreamweaver CC and Dreamweaver CS6 (for Fluid Grid). Can this be confirmed? I have no problems going back and rebuilding previously designed Fluid Grid web pages. I just want to know that there is no fix/work around available?

    Problem solved. It was missing curly bracket "}" involving Media Queries on .css page. (Please review my response to Arindam_G in Discussion "Total Crash (CC) on Attempt to Create Fluid Grid Layout!").

    Thanks for your group's assistance.

    I've made a Template from a Fluid Grid Layout(CS6) and can only get the images to be responsive if I make the images all the same height and width. What's up with that?
    All Desktop layouts stay consintent with images that are (800w x 800h) and this one that is 1173w x 800h.
    Suddenly this 1173w x 800h is inconsitent in the Tablet layout. Here the page shifts to a much smaller height - moving the logo, nav, footer etc up to a shorter layout and then back to the normal Tablet layout size once it links onward to the pages relevant to that square 800 image. I tried the problem image at 800w x 545h and it caused the same problem.
    Also, I changed the color code and can't get it back to the default.

    When you upload your work to a remote server and provide a link, I'll take another look. Without seeing it in a browser, it's impossible to trouble shoot what might be going on.

    DB:2.63:Saving A Fluid Grid Design As A Template? mf

    I would like to generate several generic fluid grid designs that I could use as a template for multiple pages (like two column vs. three) without changing the layout divs. It seems like this should be possible as long as the only editable areas were inside layout divs so the custom page css could be shared between pages. However, when working with a fluid grid page none of the template options are available.

    Assuming Dreamweave will not allow fluid grid pages to be saved as templates, should there be a problem for multiple pages to use the same layout css files as long as the layout divs aren't changed? I think DW is going to try to save a new css for each page but it should be possible to have dreamweaver overwrite the page css file which is shared by multiple pages.

    Thanks.

    PS, if my understanding of this is correct, it seems like a fluid grid page could be saved as a template (if DreamWeaver allowed it) as long as the only editable regions were inside layout divs. Correct?

    What David said.

    FGLayouts require a good deal of planning because you're going to build Mobile first (everything is based on that primary layout), then Tablet and finally Desktop.

    It's almost impossible to retrofit a fixed-width layout into FluidGrids. Just start over.

In Opera, Safari and Chrome, everything works fine. However, in IE and Firefox, the div on the right side of the page drops down under the left div (the middle one and the left one stay where they belong). How do I fix this? The page is still a work in progress (obviously), but the url is http://www.brucebarrdesign.com/index_fluid.htm

    You know, I have been looking for this same problem, tring to understand why my divs were not staying were i put them. I could not figure it out, gave up and made another layout from scratch. My easy work around is to Add 1 extra column to your layout. Let it be the far right column. Do all your spacing with the other columns. Dont snap anything with a border this last column. It will allow the other exrta pixels a place to fill in, and not cause the last div to drop to the next row. You only need to do this if you want to have borders around your layout divs.

    This is a major "development error" problem that adobe missed when they made the fluid grid system. It does not calculate the space correctly if you use a border property.

    trying my hand at thsi fluid grid layout thing and am having a few issues. part of the problem is i may just be trying to do too much, making an ecommerce site and the page has quite a few div's in it, a header, description, picture, cart, and price div per each item. the layout looks fine in the mobile view but i can't get the divs to match up in the tablet and desktop view.

    i know there are other programs like bootstrap out there, but just not sure if they are going to run into the same issue. the simple fix would be just to create each of these items in photopshop and then each item would just be one div, instead of 5. but then the issue becomes i create the size of each item for the mobile view, but by the time it gets to the desktop view the quality of the image is going to be crummy.

    the final option would be just to get another url and build that page for mobile, and have a link there on the page to view full site and just direct it to my url that has the desktop site up and running, and do vice versa on the desktop site.

    HELLLLLPPPPPPPP! any advice or direction would be appreciated.

    my url is http://www.coloredfortunecookies.com if you want to see my issues. you can play with the screen size in your browser and see all looks great in mobile view, but not the other.

    Fluid grids are floated in the order produced, i.e. LayoutDiv1, LayoutDiv2, LayoutDiv3, etc...

    You would need to put main content inside LayoutDiv1. Alternatively, you could hide left sidebar div on mobile layouts with a media query.

    I guess I don't understand what you're attempting to do or why you think you should be able to use that input field at this stage. You cannot create a new CSS file for your FluidGridLayout until you first save the primaryLayout.css, boilerplate.css, respond.js and FluidGrid document files. In other words, you must have a whole project before you can add more stuff to it.

    If you need a 2nd external style sheet for custom styles, go to File New blank page CSS.

    Hit Create button. Save the CSS file. Add some custom CSS rules to it. Save again.

    Finally, link your FluidGrid HTML pages(s) to your newly created CSS file. See link below for details.

    php would have zero effect on your fluid grid code, html/css

    The best thing for you to do is make a copy of your site folder and experiment. If all goes wrongs you have a back-up site folder you can fall back on.

The buttons for play and full screen mode are shown as gray squares on my Android phone. It works fine in other browsers (OS:Windows 7, Chrome, FireFox and IE. I have not tested iOS or iPhones). I spent a day trying variations trying to get it to work properly on the Android and finally built a whole new HTML5 (non Fluid Grid) and it works. But that has issues with formatting, where comes in small and has text not filling the page for Android. I am trying to avoid people having to zoom in and out to see the page. The Fluid Grid brings the page in the way that I want it. My guess is that the Fluid Grid boilerplate or the respond.min.js is causing the conflict. As this is a touchy new venture into Adaptive Design I have left these files alone.

    Here is the fluid grid (stripped of formatting) http://www.oha-edu.org/Video/v1.html

    Here is the HTML5 video page where the buttons show up. http://www.oha-edu.org/Video/2.html

    Dumping my Droid Razr Maxx (Android Version 4.04, System version 6.16.211.xt912.Verizon.en.US) is not a solution. I wish to make this work for as many devices as possible.

    How do I override the snap to grid in Fluid Liquid Grid layout.

    I have 2 divs that I want to abutt each other? I don't want the space between the column.

    Please see circle area in attached image

    Thanks in advance

    DB:2.57:How Do I Override The Snap To Grid In Fluid Liquid Grid Layout. cm

    By default, FGLayouts add gutters between floated divs. AFAIK, you can't override this in Design View. You would need to manually edit the div widths and margins in your CSS code.

    DB:2.57:How To Get Swf To Be Responsive In Fluid Grid Layout? zk

    I inserted my swf in a fluid grid layout div tag so it would fit on any screen. But no matter which Scale setting I use for the swf (noborder, default, exactfit, noscale, or showall) nothing works.

    Take a look This one is exactfit. It scales but does not maintain the proper aspect ratio.

    Cycle2 works! I showed you the code for that one yesterday. It's modern, responsive and has many features you won't find in other lesser slideshows.

    DB:2.57:Fluid Grid Layout Div's Not Snapping Correctly? 3z

    Hello, how come my fluid grid layout div's are not snapping correctly?

    Here is a picture:

    As you can see, the div tag "iphone1" is halfway in the other column. Shouldn't it be snapping to the nearest column? My mobile layout snaps perfectly fine but my tablet and desktop do not. Is it because my div tag "iphone1" is in another fluid grid layout tag "main-body" Can you not place div's inside of div's with id's?

    I would appreciate any help as I am sure I am doing something wrong that can easily be fixed.

    Also, it is possible to change the number of columns you want for each design view after creating the page? For example, I have 20 columns in desktop view, it is possible to change to 16 if I wanted to?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi dhint4,

    Hope things are working out for you while using new Fluid Grids.

    To answer your question around nesting of elements :

    12.2 upgrade of DW fully supports the Nesting of different fluid elements within other fluid element.

    Infact it also supports insertion of non-fluid(normal) element within fluid elements.

    This was not available in 12.0 release.

    Only caveat while nesting is not to apply same class on both Child and Parent unless the the width of both is 100%.

    Also, it is possible to change the number of columns you want for each design view after creating the page? For example, I have 20 columns in desktop view, it is possible to change to 16 if I wanted to?

    Currently its not possible to change the number of columns on the fly. We already have couple of feature request to support the same.

    Please feel free to add your vote by creating a feature request @ :https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

    Kindly revert if you have any issues or concerns.

    Cheers,

    Puneet

    DB:2.57:Can I Nest A "Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag" Into Another "Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag"? kz

    Question is easy see the headline, the reason is:

    If I want to creat a main div with a side div beside it. I want both divs to be the same height and both have the same background without margin or padding in between also these would have to resize in a fluid grid layout, is it possible?

    Thank you for your help

    Originally, FGL did not support nested divs. If you are on the Cloud, the last update included some improvements.

    DB:2.57:Handles Are Gone In Dreamweaver Cc Fluid 71

    I have the SOLUTION! Here is what has happend...

    In the fluid-grid.css that you first created...

    Find the class that no longer allows you to have the handles (ie. the handles disappeared from my .pageHeader class)

    Add width: 100%; inside of the brackets.

    .pageHeader {

    width:100%

    }

    Save the file and go back out to Design View. You have the handles back!!!

    DB:2.57:Can I Control Column Color In Fluid Grid Layout? 7p

    The columns in fluid grid layout are gray in CC; they used to be pink. I highly prefer pink, as I almost never design with that color, and I frequently design with gray.

    Is there a way to set a preference for grid column color in CC?

    Thanks.

    DB:2.56:Fluid Grid Gutter Issues sf

    In order to use the new fluid grid features you must set a gutter for the columns. This makes styling a pain unless I'm missing something. You end up with this:I want to add some background gradients to separate column 1 and two. With a standard layout I'm not faced with the gutters revealing the content background between elements. Are there any work around's for this? I can build the fluid layout manually but then I loose the really nifty ability to just click and drag elements around visually in Dreamweaver's Design view. Thanks.
