    DB:4.52:Wusb600n Not Seeing My 5ghz Network 87

Hi, I've used the WUSB600N v2 adapter for a few months now. Everything works fine. I used a Dlink 825 router. I recently changed my DLink to a Netgear WNDR3700 router. After I've made the switch my WUSB600N v2 could no longer see my 5GHz SSID. I know the SSID works because my iPad could see and connect to that network fine, even when I put it adjacent to the computer I use the WUSB600N v2 adapter.

    I've installed the latest WUSB600N driver and 3700 firmware. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

Any idea on how I might fix this problem? Thx.

You try changing the different wireless channels on the router and then check.

I have windows 8 64bit release. I upgraded from windows 7 where I was connected via my wusb600N dual band network adapter using the 5ghz N network.
After the upgrade windows 8 only sees the 2.4ghz band networks.
The drivers installed are newer than anything on the Cisco site, and I did a search of the forum here and it appears that this was a known pre-release issue in the release candidate but worked prior to that. Any plans to fix this issue as it doesn't appear
to only affect the Cisco wusb600n wifi adapter based on the discussions I've seen.
    netr28ux.sys RALINK Technology Corp. 4.00.00.020
    vwifibus.sys Microsoft Corporation 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247)
Updating the driver just tells me I'm already updated to the best driver for my device:
Linksys WUSB600N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter with Dual-Band ver. 2

DB:3.86:Dual Band Wifi Nic Not Seeing 5ghz Band Networks 1s

Posting my solutions in case anyone else runs into these issues on Windows 8. I have yet to see both of these issues solved elsewhere. I will go into detail for the less experienced.

    Problems:
    1. The prepackaged driver that Windows 8 installs for the WUSB600N can only discover 2.4GHz networks. Driver must be installed manually.
    2. When disconnecting/reconnecting the adapter, Windows re-installs its broken version of the driver, making it necessary to manually install a driver each time the device is unplugged. Since this is a USB adapter and as such is designed to be hot pluggable,
    this is absurd. Let's fix.

The Windows 7 driver available at Linksys.com enables discovery of 5GHz networks. For WUSB600Nv1, the correct driver as of this writing is v3.0.10.0. It must be installed manually via the device's property box; there is no exe. Download
it to a folder you'll remember and extract the files from the zip file.

In desktop mode, open device manager. Mouse to the bottom left corner of your screen; a menu appears. Select device manager. Expand the network adapters category. Find the Linksys Dual Band Wireless-N Adapter (or similar) entry.

Right-click and select Update driver software... from the context menu. Now select Browse my computer for driver software. In the next window, select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
In the next window you will see the Linksys adapter driver already filled in. This is the bad pre-installed driver; ignore it. Click Have Disk.... A file box will appear; use it to browse to the folder with the files you downloaded from Linksys.com
and select the folder containing netr28ux.inf. Hit OK.
Back on the Update Driver Software screen it appears nothing has changed; don't worry. Click next and Windows should start Installing driver software.... If a progress bar starts moving we're on the right track. When done, the new driver
is installed and you will be able to discover and connect to 5GHz networks.

Now, to prevent Windows from undoing all that hard work each time the device is unplugged, we must implement another fix. You need elevated administrator rights for this. There are several ways to do what we are about to do next. If you
prefer another method, have at it.

Open an elevated command window: In desktop mode, hold down the Windows Key and hit R. A run box appears. Type cmd (minus the quotes) and press CtrlShiftEnter. If successful you now have an elevated command window. The title bar
should say C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe. If not try again. You must hold Ctrl, then Shift, then Enter.
Now we will set the driver file to read-only. This prevents Windows from overwriting it. In the elevated prompt type the following, minus the quotes: attrib R c:\windows\system32\drivers\netr28ux.sys If successful there will be no message.
No news is good news on this one :)
Close the command window and try unplugging/replugging the device. The driver should stay put and you should be able to connect to 5GHz each time with no issue. All fixed.

    Cheers.

Just installed a WNDR3700v2 Dual Band Router. Internet access is fine. But my laptop only sees the name I put on the 2.4GHz network, not the name I put on the 5GHz network (call them network 2 and network 1).

It can see my wireless network, says the signal strength is excellent and lets me putin my passphrase but I can't connect to the internet. It tells me that the network is not assigning an IP address to the computer. What can I try to resolve this? The wireless network is working fine with other devices in the house. Thanks!

I am using Windows 7 and I am having a lot of troubles connecting it to my computer. I have used the disc and installed the drivers. Then I inserted the dongle into the computer when asked and then clicked OK. After that nothing happens and in the "Network Connections" on the computer I have the device but it is not enabled. So I have tried to enable it by right clicking on it and clicking on enable. It says it is enabled but the icon doesnt change. Still says disabled. I have tried to change drivers.

OK, lets fix your current problem then anticipate the next one. The Linksys install program does not work in Win7, at least I never got it to work. Reboot your machingwith the 600N plugged in. Windows will recognize it and you can install the drivers manually off of the CD using Device Manager.

There could be two future problems if you have Win7 loaded.

The obvious one will be that you have IPv6 loaded and many routers don't like that. The Linksys54G isbecoming very famous on the Windows 7 fora as having this problem. I disabled Ipv6 and the newer protocols and ALMOST all of my problems with my WUSB600Nv2 have disappeared.

However, I still get an occasional BSOD that gives me a USB error. I don't think the drivers (even the updated ones) are 100% compatable with Win7 yet but it's pretty goodgiven the newness of the OS and the constant updates MicroSquish is doing,I'd rather worry about the problems my Radeon 9500 drivers are giving me and accept an occassional USB crash . . . for now.

Since you have not found the Linksys Wireless Manager software, this could tell "us" you have a WUSB600N adapter, without a version byner. This is now known as "Version 1" of the WUSB600N adapter.

Linksys Wireless Manager will not install in Vista. It is not needed nor ever made to work. Make sure you download the Version 1 drivers as the Version 2 drivers are not to be used with the Version 1 adapter.

Look in Device Manager and adjust the 'Let Windows turn the power off..." to the adapter and the USB "ports."

The signal received by my client devices (e.g., Roku box) has dropped (e.g., from 5 bars or "excellent" to 2 bars or "poor"). Also, the client is now seeing two weak 5Ghz signals instead of one strong (extended) one as it did before. I've tried to troubleshoot this, but everything checked out ok, and I can't find any problem. Of course, it is possible that there is some sort of external interference, but everything was fine a couple days ago, and I think it unlikely that both frequencies would be affected (e.g., 2.4 would be affected by cordless phones, etc., but not 5). One of the "stumbler" utilities should help identify sources of interference. Changing WiFi channels can help avoid interferences. Moving or raising your WiFi base stations a little may help improve signal strength.

Can someone please tell me if my printer can also find a 5Ghz netwerk instead of a 2,4Ghz. First i had a 2,4 Ghz network we can print wireless but now with the new router i can not find the network..

    DB:2.86:Wireless 5ghz Hp Laserjet Pro 1415fnw m7

    Hi,

It supports 2.4GHz. Give your router to broadcasr BOTH bands (5GHz and 2.4GHz) then it will pick up.

    Regards.

    DB:2.86:Wusb600n Dual-Band In Vista k9

A few months ago I bought a WRT610N router and WUSB600N adapter for use in my home network. The WRT610N is broadcasting draft-N at 2.4 and 5ghz encrypted in WPA2-Personal. I'm running Vista 32-bit on a loaded Core 2 Duo desktop, connecting to the LAN with the WUSB600N. Unfortunately I can't get the device to talk with the router at 2.4ghz and 5ghz simultaneously, which is the reason I purchased it.

Will updated Vista drivers for the WUSB600N ever be released? Is there any workaround to enable both bands with the WUSB600N in Vista? The device is labeled "Certified for Windows Vista" (I still have the box). I'd have spent far less money had I realized that, despite the packaging, the Vista performance of the adapter renders the simultaneous dual-band functionality of both the WUSB600N and the WRT610N useless.

    DB:2.86:Wusb600n Dual-Band In Vista k9

Thanks for replies - yeah, my lack of clarity is a result of my ignorance. I read the packaging for the WUSB600N about a hundred times and always came to the conclusion that I could increase my bandwidth by connecting the adapter at 2.4ghz and 5ghz at the same time. I used live chat with a Linksys rep and he informed me this is not the case... disappointing, but obviously there's nothing I can do about it.

I found a copy of XP Pro and "downgraded" to that, since Vista consistently dropped its connection to the router 40' and a single wall away and had generally bumpy performance at 2.4ghz and a 5ghz. Big improvement.

Hello,I have a Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter, model WUSB600N. It offers to run on 2.4ghz and 5ghz. It says I can switch between the two but nowhere in the instructions that came with it can I find anything about how to do this.I am running on Windows Vista so it does not load the Linksys program, it just skips and lets Vista run the connections. I can connect normally, but I want to run on the other ghz.If you can help, thank you.

    DB:2.86:Wusb600n - How Do I Activate The 5ghz Part? x9

    Hi Silpheed,

Your WUSB600N would be connecting using the 5GHz frequency,if it would connect to a wireless signal that is broadcasting in 5GHz.

There is no way we can choose from the adapter's settings on what frequency to use, becuase it will only ADAPT to the frequency that your router is broadcasting.

So, your wireless router should also be aDual Band router.
It is from the router that you can select what frequency to broadcast.

    Hope this helps!

Just got a Lumia 520 from Rogers. It has been unlocked.

When i go to the WIFI settings, it only sees the 2.4Ghz SID of my router. It does not see the 5Ghz SID. I know that the 5Ghz band on the router is broadcasting since my BB Playbook sees it and is connected to it.

Is the unit defective, or is there somewhere I need to activate 5Ghz?

I'm an admitted newb, please don't kill me. I have searched for previous posts and have found a few, nothing has helped though...so I figured I'd post myself.

    2 issues:

    * Not able to enable media sharing on windows media player

I've tried opening ports but when I click the box to share and click ok, it freezes my media player then nothing happens.

    * Not able to connect through 5ghz using my adapter

I tried changing the radio band and channels, but honestly not sure what I'm doing.

I'd like to connect through an N connection (5ghz), which is why I purchased the router and adapter. Using this I'd like to share media between my computer and my PS3.

I'm sure i need to provide more information in order to diagnose, please let me know and I'll provide as much info as I can.

Thanks in advance and please understand that this stuff is foreign to me, I'm surprised I was able to set the router up in the first place. (I'm currently connected using my wireless card that my computer came with, it's connected through the 2.4GHZ G.)

Thank you so much, you've resolved my issue with the adapter. It now connects through the 5ghz connection.

Now for the media sharing, please explain, I'm not sure how or what to do with the ports. Can you expand?

Also, any ideas why the 5ghz N connection would have slower bandwidth speeds?

    Hey,

I've been trying to bridge my desktop's wireless connection with a wired Xbox 360.

I seem to be able to successfuly create a bridge, but my USB adapter looses signal afterwards - connecting to my network with little or no connectivity or sometimes completely unable to find any networks in the area.

I'm not sure what is really causing this, but I've heard that some adapters on the market arn't capable of bridging and display symptoms similar to my case.

    Thanks if you can help!

DB:2.85:Wusb600n Network Adapter Looses Signal After Connection Bridge ap

It's better to use the Xbox by connecting the router wired or wirelessly directly, instead of trying to bridge desktop wireless connection with a wired Xbox 360.

Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank in Password use admin in lower case...

On the set-up tab change the MTU Size to 1365 and click Save Settings...

Click on "Administration" tab and disable the option UPnP and click Save Settings...

Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Range Forwarding" subtab...

    1) On the first line in Application box type in ABC, in the start box type in 53 and End box type in 3074, leave the protocol as both and under ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and check the enable box, click Save Settings once done...

    2) Once you return to the set up page click on the Security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...

3)Click on the Status tab and take note of DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses...

    4) Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
    IP Address :- 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.1.1...

    5) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
Use DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses you took note off of the router status tab as Primary DNS Secondary DNS for the xbox...

    6) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...

    7) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...

IP Address: 192.168.X.[last part of ip in your device] e.g. if static ip given to the device was 192.168.X.10 get the last part and put that to the empty box.

I have owned the older version of WD TV Live (WDBAAN0000NBK) for almost 18 months. I used it wirelessly, together with the Linksys WUSB600N Adapter, together with with the Netgear Dual-Band WNDR3700 router.

I have it setup to run in 802.11n, using the5Ghzmode (which supports DLNA). No problems!

I got the new WD TV Live today (WDBHG70000NBK) and although it clearely states on the outside of the box that it supports 802.11b/g/n, it doesnt see my network (escept for the 2.4Ghz one, which I only want to use for internet usage and it doesn't support DLNA).

After spening 1 hour on trying to figure things out, I came up on the following "gem" in the manual on page 22. It reads:

"Note: The recommended setting on Wireless N routers is 802.11n-only with a channel width of 20/40 MHz. If you are using a wireless-N access point (AP) and it has been set to operate in 802.11n mode with a security setting of anything other than WPA2-PSK+AES or None, then media player will operate at lower 802.11g rates. Disabling wireless security is not recommended."

What the HECK does this mean? I went as far as changing my setting of the 5Ghz band router setup to

    Channel 40

Security: WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] and even tried with NO SECURITY

and still, WD TV Live cannot find (either Automatically or Manually) my Wireless connection.

I also understand that I cannot plug-in my Linksys WUSB600N Adapter into the unit, as wireless dongles are not supported by this unit.

Can someone please explain to me how to solve this problem? I did update my firmware to the latest version, but it still has not provided any solution.

I want to be able to run the new WDTV Live on my 2nd Band (5Ghz), otherwise, what's the point of using a dual-band router?

There IS an option if you want it.

Go buy an 802.11n 5ghz AP and configure it in client mode to bridge with your 5ghz access point. Then connect your WD Live via ethernet to the device.

    Hi,

I've come across an interesting issue with my new WUSB600N. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the actual adapter, but I thought maybe someone had come across (and hopefully fixed) this before.

I have four computers in the house - one desktop (running Windows 7 64bit), one laptop (running Windows 7 32bit) and two Eee PC 1001PX's (both running Windows 7 32bit). The desktop and the laptop both have no problems with the WUSB600N - plug it in, connect to the network and all is good (although I discovered that the WUSB600N doesn't seem to be able to pick up 5GHz channels above 48, but that's a minor side issue).

The two (identical) Eee PC's on the other hand aren't playing so nice.

Connecting the WUSB600N installs the drivers, and the 5GHz 802.11n network shows up. Connecting seems to work fine at first, however after about 30 seconds Windows reports the network as not connected to the internet. The internet is indeed unaccessable, and so is everything on the local network, including the router that the adapter has apparently connected to (ping comes back with timeouts or 'Destination unreachable'). Asking windows to repair the connection doesn't help, and windows blames the router and suggests rebooting it (no other computer on the same network is having any issue however).

Oddly enough, if I use the WUSB600N to connect to a 2.4GHz 802.11g network, it works without issue on all four computers.

I'm guessing the issue is actually with the Eee PC's, but as I mentioned above with any luck someone else has seen this and knows a way to fix it.

    DB:2.83:Wusb600n Vs Eee Pc 7s

It is good to know that you have fixed the issue. As far as 5 GHz signal strength is concerned it is meant for short distance specially for gaming devices.

If you encounter the same problem then there would be an IRQ conflict, you should change the USB Port for the WUSB600N adapter...

look on the bottom of your adapter, if it is a version 2, it would explicitly say there it is a wusb600n v2.

if not, that means it is a version 1.

    · What is the Operating System installed on the computer?
    · Are you able to go online wired without any issues?
    · To be clear with, may I know which troubleshooting steps have you tried?
    · Could you give me the complete error code or error message?
I have few steps here that might fix the issue.
First, I suggest that you run the Network Diagnostic troubleshooter to check if that resolves the fixes the issue or not.
Click Start click Control Panel click Network and Internet click Network and Sharing Center click on Troubleshoot Problems.
If the issue still persists, I suggest that you check if the drivers are up to date for wireless adapter or not.
Click Start type Device Manager in the Start Search expand Network Adapters under Device Manager Window right click on the device click on Properties click on Driver Tab click on Update drivers click OK.
If the issue still persists, I suggest that you install the latest drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and check.

    Dear All,

Could you please point me on the posting with the optimal WiFi parameters for WRT610N or write these parameters here?

Finally I’ve installed the router on the 1st floor of my house. I have a desktop with the WUSB600N adapter on the 2nd floor and also I tested different locations with my laptop (it has 11g WiFi).

I found a quite good quality of the signal from the router on 2.4GHz, the connection speed to the desktop is typically 108-130Mbps with a good signal level.

Unfortunately 5GHz is not as good as 2.4. The signal level is very low and the connection speed drops down to 13.5Mbps.

So I would appreciate any idea regarding improvement of the connection on 5GHz and perhaps on 2.4GHz also.

    Thanks .

Unfortunately the changes didn't help, I also contacted the Linksys support and after the check they recommended to exchange the router.

Hi All,I just upgraded my 4th gen Extreme to a 5th gen Extreme. Kinda weird - with the 4th gen, the 5Ghz wireless network could NOT be seen from the iPhone 4S (as expected, since the iPhone doesn't support the 5Ghz wireless range). With the 5th gen Extreme, not only can I SEE the 5Ghz wireless network, I can connect to it and use it!It's ok, not causing any problems, but that doesn't really make sense!Same firmware on the Extreme (7.6), same firmware on the iPhone (latest 5.0.1 code).Anyone know why?- Thanx- Jon

Of course, I'm sure it isn't. I think the different chipset (Broadcom?) on the 5th gen Extreme changed this behavior...I asked Apple about this too, and they essentially gave me a blank stare.Oh well. No biggie - like I said, it's working fine. I just wouldn't expect the 5GHz wireless network to even show up on my iPhone...- Thanx- Jon

I have two WUSB600N adaptors and my router is a WRT600N. I have the router set to only work in Wireless N / 5GHz mode with the 2 desktop PC's using the USB adaptors. They are slowwwwww..... is that normal because they are USB instead of PCI? My normal download / upload speeds are 11Mbps / 4Mbps. The download with the USB600N is only about 3.5 Mbps. Funny enough...the upload works just fine at 4 Mbps.I have one computer running Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) and the other running WIndows Vista Ultimate (64 bit). Both computers far exceed the minimum requirements for running Windows Vista.I verified that the drivers are the latest on both computers, and even tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. No difference. When I tried an old Wireless G adaptor with each computer, both achieved 11Mbps download speed easily. It is DEFINITELY something to do with the WUSB600N adaptors.I even tried swapping the adaptors, but both gave the same performance metrics.AND....both PC's are pretty new...almost NOTHING is even installed on them yet except for all the Microsoft updates. Not even MS Office is installed yet. This is as close as possible to "pure" testing. The signals are several bars....no problems with signal strength.Any help would be VERY much appreciated. I'm really to throw out these adaptors and to go buy the D-Link ones and give them a try. My goal is to be using these PC's for Windows Media Center and streaming within the house.
    Thank you,

Your logic is fine. For me it comes down to that little bit of money is not worth my gas $$, time to return the thing, then time to re-set up the router.... then heaven forbid, I have problems which I need to call for support. I have spent too many evenings messing with the stupid thing. Now that it is working, I want to cut my losses and just be glad I have a working system. It is too bad that I am currently in this mindset. You would think that in today's state of technology, you could buy a simple router and adapter from the same company and they would work quickly out of the box! Best Regards,

DB:2.76:Wet610n Wireless Bridge - Poor Signal Compared To Usb Adapter Wusb600n....Sitting Side By Side z1

I have a WRT400N dual band router. Bought the WET610N bridge and a USB adapter WUSB600N....all Linksys/Cisco to ensure 802.11n and MIMO compatibility and get the best signal range/strength. I have both the bridge and the adapter connectedin an upstairs office located about 20 feet from the router (as the crow flies....up 10 feet....over 15 feet). The router is in a central location on the first floor.

I can use my laptop in my office with it's built in wireless and get "excellent" or "good" signal as measured by Windows on either 802.11g or 802.11a, depending on which band I want to use. No issues at all with my laptop.

I can use the WUSB600N adapter on the desktop system in the office and it gets 80% signal on 5GHz using 802.11n or about 90% on 2.4GHZ using 802.11n. No issues at all with signal or throughput.

The WET610N bridge is another story. I have it literally sitting next to the USB adapter (which is in it'scradle on the desk) but the best it can do is 30% signal for 5GHz and 50% for 2.4GHz.Speeds seem OK, and I haven't noticed significant packet loss, so is the signal meter on this bridge just not calibrated correctly?

Why would the laptop wireless (not even Cisco) and the other Cisco USB adapter be getting excellent signal strength and the bridge is getting "fair" or "poor" signal....and it's sitting no more than a foot away?

While changing the Bridge settings you have to make sure that the Wireless Settings(SSID/Network Name and WEP/WPA Key) are identical on both the devices(router and Bridge)...Also make sure to change the Bridge's default IP to match your network and Gateway Address should be your router's address...

If required you should also Download and Upgrade it's Firmware...

Thanks for the reply, but I've updated the firmware and reset previously with no change. I don't quite understand your SSID suggestion though.....of course the SSID has to match the router network in order to connect. I also have selected via the wireless network survey where all you need to do is select and enter the WPA2 passphrase. I have no problem connecting, just getting decent signal strength compared to other devices that can be sitting side by side.

Another problem I get with this device is it fails to save changes. I have tried umpteen times to update the WMM settings and the admin password. You can click "save" but nothing actually saves. Resets make absolutely no difference.

I used to think Linksys was the premium brand, but their stuff is really junk and firmware updates seem to be few and far between.

    Hi Linksys

Im a happy customer of networking solutions from you, i own a WRT610N and a few WUSB600N, but

my problem is that these WUSB600N dosent have linux support? Why does you not make drivers for linux?

Besides of that i got a few bugs with my WUSB600N's (And yes i have updated firmware to the latest) (I run XP 32 bit)

The problem is like this, sometimes when i start my pc the WUSB600N does not search for wifi signals, so i got to

right click on its tray icon select show wifi signals and then click on update list of wifi signals and then it finds them

(But i still have to do it manually sometimes happens when using the usb cable that came with it)

Sometimes my pc cant find the WUSB600N (This problem exists with and without the usb cable thing to put the dongle in) then i take out the dongle of the usb cable or usb port and put it in and then it works.. (Dont know why, but seems like other have the same problem)

But but but, my main problem is that you DONT make linux support.. Now i have to buy other products from other compaines that cost about twice the prize of what you make, im so disapointed and if it was not because i only have good experience with your network solutions i would go to D-Link, ASUS or even Netgear! Good thing it worked on your linux system. The drivers for this adapteris intended for windows-based computers only so probably this is the reason why you're having problems using it.

I would assume the problem is with your router...If your router is WRT160N v2 with firmware 2.0.02 build 011 firmware, then, you need to downgrade your router's firmware to build 008 to resolve such issues...See the link here

After downgrading the router's firmware you must reset and re-configure it...

Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Once you are done, you should then adjust the wireless settings...

Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...

    - Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.

NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...

    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

    Folks,

I don't see an AC1450 section so am posting this message to the first forum in the Wireless Router area. If someone want's to move the message feel free.

I recently set up an AC1450 router and created SSIDs and WPA2 Password Keys for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels. For both a home and a Guest network. On my wireless devices all I see is the 2.4Ghz home network (which connects just fine) but not the home 5Ghz network and no guest network. My research indicates that our iPhone 4s don't have 5Ghz capability so I am out of luck there. But we have a new Sony Blu-ray player which, I was told, should be able to see both radios.

Am I doing something wrong in the Network settings? I've printed and read the users manual and checked all the settings again. Should I be able to see both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks (home and guest) on my other wireless devices? Does it all depend on if they're 5Ghz capable?

In the Netgear Genie Advanced Setup/Wireless Settings both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Enable Wireless Router Radio boxes are checked. My computer is about 4 years old and running Windows XP Pro. Do you suppose that the NIC card is not n compatible (perhaps only a/b/g)?

My ISP is Comcast, my operating system is Windows XP Pro, and I receive my Internet service via cable.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help/advice.

Just moved to a WRT160N router. Seems to work fine and I'm able to connect wirelessly to it from a Logitech SqueezeBox and my Palm Pre (both are Wireless-G).

However, I'm having a little trouble with a wireless connection from a machine with a WUSB600N (ver 2) adapter. It sees the router just fine and connects, but shows "poor" or "fair" signal. If I put my Palm Pre right next to the adapter, the Pre shows a very strong signal. So, it's like the WUSB600N just isn't able to get the same strong signal.

Also, no matter what I try, the WRT160N shows that the WUSB600N is connecting as "Wireless-G." Shouldn't in be connecting as "Wireless-N"? Even when I set the router to accept only "N" connections, it still connects as G. Note that when the router is set to "N only," my Pre and the SqueezeBox (both "G" devices) still connect.

I can't get the 5GHz to work at all, but right now I'd settle for a decent N-connection on the 2.4GHz. I suspect that the problem here is that I have a 5 GHz cordless phone (which I got a few years ago to avoid the 2.4Ghz of my old router).

So, do the WRT160N and WUSB600N work together to give a N connection? Is N being denied because of the poor signal? And why am I getting a poor signal from the WUSB600N when a cell phone (with WiFi turned on) right next to it getting a very strong signal?

In terms of firmware, I downloaded the latest drivers for the WUSB600N from LinksysbyCisco.com (they were the same that came in the box). I appear to have an old firmware on the WRT160N (it starts with a "1" so I assume I have version 1?). But given that the Pre has no problems with signal to the router, I've "blamed" the WUSB600N for the weak signal.

I've tried playing with some of the router's advanced options, as I've found in the various FAQs, but nothing seems to help. That's not to say that I've not hit upon the magic numbers.

Any thoughts? In particular, if I can't connect as "N" for some reason, then I might as well return the router and adapter since there's no reason to spend this kind of money to have what my old setup was already able to do.

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:2.72:Do Wrt160n And Wusb600n Work Together -- Poor Signal, No N sz

Turns out, the problem was that I had WEP enabled. This isn't supported with Wireless-N. Once I switched to WPA2-Personal, signal quality went up, wireless N works.

Soon my town will be getting fiber to the home, so I've alreadyupgraded my home network to handle this. One of the changes is that I'll no longer use my powerline adapters to stream video, but to transfer the IPTV data. For streaming I wanted to switch to Wifi, so I bought the E4200 and compatible adapters and bridges (see subject).

The powerline adapters have a bandwidth of 200Mbps, of which I get an actual 120. This works fine except for full 1080p, that stutters. The E4200 has a maximum of 450Mbps, but the adapters and bridge only do 300, but that should be sufficient. So after replugging my network, I tested it last night by playing a 350MB 45 minute episode of a TV series... And it stuttered!

Doing the math, that would mean the connection was less that 1Mbps! The WUSB600N and E3200 were (direct line) about 4 meters apart, separated by a concrete floor. This kinda amazed and disappointed me.

What is the best way to measure the actual connection speed?

And more important; since the E3200 does both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, how can I tell which band the adapter is using? I want to use the 5Ghz band, since that is fairly empty compared to the 2.4Ghz. However, I've configured both with the same ID, as the E4200 manual instructs, but I think it may be better to separate them?

Yes. I'm streaming via my WD TV Live using the WUSB600N. The WD is somewhat unstable, but that is WD's fault because it also is when connected via cable.

Actually the 5 GHz band has a shorter range compared to a 2.4 GHz band because in radio frequencies, the higher the frequency the shorter its range. In other words, if you are using a lower frequency like the 2.4 GHz, the distance it will cover will be greater than the 5 GHz band. If you still want to connect it to the 5 Ghz, you may try updating the router’s firmware. Don’t forget to reset and reconfigure it afterwards.

DB:2.72:Some Devices Not Seeing 5ghz Network (Another Question) cz

Still a newbie since my last question I posted 4 hours ago.

    Reminder, I have a WNDR3700v2, firmware 1.0.12.

I posted a different question, and I mentioned my 2.4GHZ radio is bad now (1.5 years old router), so only my 5GHZ radio is turned on.

I have several devices that don't see the network. A Motorola RAZR, a Kindle Fire (2011 model), Xbox 360 Slim (newer model), and a Roku XD 2050. All of these have a 802.11b/g/n wi-fi card. They all saw the 2.4GHZ network fine when it worked. Come to think of it, none of these devices ever saw the 5GHZ network. I used a web app that scanned all the networks, and all of the other networks in my apartment complex use the 2.4ghz band. I am the only one who has 5ghz working.

I thought that as long as I have a card that does 802.11N, regards of the up to 130mbps setting, the devices should see the 5GHZ network. It is set at WPA2.

Some devices do see it however, like my laptop, Galaxy Nexus phone, work laptop.

So, is this normal? Thanks again.

DB:2.72:Some Devices Not Seeing 5ghz Network (Another Question) cz

Many - maybe even most - 802.11n products are single band, 2.4GHz only.

Check the manufacturer's specs on each of those products you listed. I think you'll find in every case that those work in the 2.4 GHz band, only.

DB:2.71:How To See 5ghz Band Using Wrt610n And Wusb600n mm

I've installed the WRT610N router, and am connecting via WUSB600N adapter. I have only installed the driver for the adapter (not Linksys's LELA), and am using WinXP's "Wireless Network Connection" to connect. I've run into problems in the past with LELA causing errors, and I'd rather avoid using it.

The problem is that I cannot see the 5Ghz band. I can only see the 2.4Ghz band. What do I need to do in order to see (and hopefully connect to) the 5Ghz band? (I would hope that my not using LELA would be a non-factor. Theoretically, I should be able to use any brand of "N" adapter to connect with the larger band... Right?)

DB:2.71:How To See 5ghz Band Using Wrt610n And Wusb600n mm

I have noticed that 5GHz channels on routers are sometimes set automatically far out at channel number 149 and thereabouts. I had a similar problem in that I knew I had a 5GHz band, but I couldn't even see it to try to connect. It appears that the Linksys utility which came with the WUSB600N cannot 'see' past about channel 50.

You may want to try setting the channel manually in the router to something like channel 38. The Linksys utility will definitely be able to 'see' it then, and should offer the ability to connect.

    Hi:

    I have a WUSB600N v.2 adapter on Vista 64. I am connecting to WNDR3700 router over 5Ghz.

Initiallly when I first setup the network I was using WPA-PSK[TKIP] and I used to get speeds of 54Mbps.

I changed the security to WPA2-PSK [AES] and my speed jumped to 162Mbps immediately.

However, I am not able to get speeds any faster than 216Mbps. Most of the time it ranges between 162 and 216.

I have changed some settings. Changed Fragmentation threshold to 2304 and rts threshold to 2304 in advanced setting. However this has not helped.

I have the channel bonding set at 161 (which is the max) and this has also not helped a bit.

Is there anything else I need to change to get this speed up to 270Mbps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not able to stream any movies from my PC without stuttering and stopping

    Thanks.

Since you have changed the settings on your Router and still getting the same speed on your Computer, then you can try to update the drivers for your Wireless Network Adapter. You can download the drivers from the Linksys website and update it on your computer...

Once done successfully, then you can connect to your wireless network and check whats the speed you are getting it on your computer.

I have been reading this forum and have done a few searches relating to the WRT150N and WUSB600N and I have a question or two.....

On my workstation that is using the WUSB600N, I am seeing a connection speed of 247meg when i move the cursor over the WAN connection iconin the lower right hand corner of the Windows XP workstation. SoI make theassumption that my wireless connection is running faster then a standard 100Meg wired Windows XP connection. Is this assumptioncorrect?

Why is it that I get 15meg of download speed on a 100meg wired workstation to the router and I only receive 1meg of download speed over the internet when Ido the same (speedtest.net) test on the 247meg wireless machine? Test are completed to the same location as well for consistency purposes.

I have configured all of the necessary wireless configuration informationfrom this forum on my router as well. I am using mixed mode with wide channel 9 and standard channel 11. Also thresholds have been adjusted per specs offered on this forum. Not sure how I can get the wireless machine to act/perform better at this time.

Please clarify this issue for me.

    DB:2.70:Wusb600n And Wrt150n Connectivity kc

The data transfer speed depends on the network card you are using on the computer..Suppose you are using dual band NIC on the computer and dual band router then, you will get 1000Mbps data transfer speed on the computer.

I have a dual-band AE, with "5GHz Network Name" selected and showing in the menu with 5 bars of strength on both my MacBook Pro and iMac. However the network constantly defaults to the Network Name which is not 5GHz (and I presume to be lower speed). How can I force my computers to stay connected at 5Ghz? (Both are capable.) Or possibly they are connecting even to the non-specified network at 5Ghz and the 5GHz specified network is purposeless? The only other unique aspect I know of to my set-up is that I also have a guest network used by my wife for her PC.

    DB:2.70:Why Is My 5ghz Connection Unreliable? 7j

+Unfortunately my wife uses the slower band for her PC, so I can't delete it.+

When you delete a network connection as I described above, you do it for that specific computer. If you delete the 2.4 GHz network connection on your computer under the Advanced tab, it will have no affect on the PC's ability to connect to that network.

The AirPort Extreme will still be broadcasting the 2.4 GHz signal, you have simply told your computer that the 2.4 GHz connection does not exist. Your computer will not connect to the 2.4 GHz connection unless you manually search for the network, select it and tell your computer to remember it.

    Hi,

    Router: Cisco WRT400N

    USB Wifi: Linksys WUSB600N

    My PC: Windows 7

    I'm using the 5ghz frequency

Because there is no tools on the WD live to evaluate the speed, the only test I can think of is to copy a large file on the local HD of my LIVE Hub or send ping command.

Copying file from my WIndows 7 to the local HD of the Live Hub gave me around 4.40 m/sec, so around 40 mbps / sec. This is not very good considering the capability of the 802.11 N standard on the 5ghz freqency.

The ping test gave me this result: (ping -l 10240)

So every time my computer comes out of standby or I start it up the WUSB600n needs to reconnect to my network, that's normal. But what is bugging me is that it takes 1-3 min to connect to my network, because it first connects to my neighbors unsecured network; then takes it's sweet time to recognize that I have my own preferred secure network. I am using WAP2-PSK authentication. I'm not having any other problems with the WUSB600n. On my old adapters didn't do this (WUSB54G) and (WMP54G) they connected to my preferrred network only. I am using windows XP and have the Linksys Wireless Network monitor taking care of the connection to my WRT610n. Maybe it's a problem with the WRT610n, which I know has plenty of problems. I want to know if there is any way to stop it from connecting to unsecure networks. I have looked at the settings and havent found and check box that says don't connect to unscure netoworks or anything like that. Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Do not use the Linksys Monitor, instead use WinXP Wireless WLAN to connect to your Wireless Network...

Remove the Linksys Adapter and un-install the Linksys Software from Programs menu...To re-install the Drivers insert the Linksys Setup CD into your CD-ROM drive, When the Welcome screen appears click Exit, connect your USB adapter now...When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears, click Install the software automatically (Recommended) then click Next...Click Finish when the installation is complete...

NOTE: The Hardware Installation screen may appear indicating that the Adapter has not passed Windows Logo testing. Ignore the window and click Continue Anyway to proceed with the installation since the Adapter has been tested and found to work with Windows XP.When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.

Click on Start and goto Control Panel and double click on Network Connections...Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect".It should work...

Once the Adapter is installed, Click on the Start button Control Panel Network Connections- Right click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and select "View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect".

YES!Finally back after having a small war with Lenovo'sLenovoID in their "Community". OMG.The network card is performing very very wel, ihave no regrets! Best mod ever! After all its all really easy, but i takes some time to prepare. When you're done you realise its really nothing, i mean if you can replace the HDD you can replace the WIFI/BT card. The hardest part is probably opening the bottom cover of your Lenovo.

I have both the 2.4ghz network set up and the 5ghz each with their own name and password. Just bought a new xbox 360 with the built in 'N' wireless and I cannot see the 5ghz network. My Win7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter will also not see the 5ghz network. I'd like to use it for media streaming.

Hoping to figure this out. My settings are below:

    Wireless Network (5GHz a/n)

    Enable SSID Broadcast

    Enable Video Network

    Name (SSID): Video_Stream

    Channel: 153

    Mode: to 300 Mbps

So I'm getting a little miffed. I got a new wd live plus yesterday, and I want it to work in the 5ghz range with my router. Apparently there are like only 2 usb adapters that are 5ghz on the approved list, and of those only revision 1 firmware works with the router. It's impossible for me to determine what Amazon will ship me or what I can pick up from best buy. I even just ordered the trendnet TEW-664UB, and after searching their website I had no issue to believe there was anything other than version 1.0R.. OH but guess what, Amazon.com shipped me a 1.1.R, and while it sees the wireless networks, nothing will make it get an IP from any network, locked down or not. This is very frustrating. I want to be able to use the max speed and capabilities of my e3000 router, but can't get proper wireless support from you all. Why didn't you just bundle a dual-band wireless card in the live? Why don't you give us ssh access to the box? I've been a linux admin for 13 years and can compile the darn modules myself if I have to.

Here are the ONLY 5ghz supported usb wireless adapters on the list:

    WUSB600N V1

    TEW-664UB V1.0R

    WL-329 V1 001

Good luck finding those new somewhere.. sigh

I would be very careful with that new list, Ijustboughtthe DWA-160 andit doesn't work on theLive Plus.

A WD techshould be talking to me later around 1-2, so I'll find out more on that later.

IMOWD shouldn't be listing any model card that isn't fully supported no matter any rev changes, it's shouldn't be the customerresponsibility to have to jump hoops to find a working USB card.

Version 2.1.4.0 of the Linksys drivers appears to be the latest drivers available from Linksys (if not the last version for the WUSB600N v1 adapter since Linksys now has WUSB600N v2 adapter in the "works.')

If you look thru this web forum, you will find several posts stating that Linksys did not develop the controlling chips (aka chipset) for this adapter. They seem to have licensed these from Ralink Technologies and you can "adapt" Ralink rt2870 wireless system / driver to be used with the WUSB600N v1 adapter.

I just upgraded my GF's Vista machine from a G wireless card to the WUSB600N due to her machine getting intermediate connection due to being about 100 to 150 feet away from my WRT310N router. The install went fine but when i try to connect to the router i get error 223: Not Connected topreferred network.

also i noticed that the signal strength is actually lesswith theN then i did with the G even thou the N was said to have 5 time the range as N.

    any suggestions to my problem?

First of all go to the device manager on the computer and check if the device is working properly or not..If not then, try to uninstall the adapter and reinstall it..Use the different USB port on the computer.

Login into the router setup page,Change the SSID(Network Name) to some unique name..Change the Channel Width to 20MHz only and Channel to 20.Under the Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75 Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 Click on "Save Settings"...

After reinstalling the driver, try to locate the wireless network on the computer and connect it..

I don't know if anyone can help out there: I've got a FreeNAS samba server running on a gigabit line. The WDTV is connected over wifi to a 5ghz wifi network (N). I can see the CIFS/Samba shares just fine, I can browse just fine... If I start a movie it'll play fine for about a minute and then stutter... then play fine for a minute, then stutter, etc. I know samba is a little slow but I don't have much of an option... my main problem is that network throughput seems to be around 15 Mbps (that's bits not bytes)... while my windows machines seem to be able to do read/wrtes at 90+ Mbps.

Anybody out there with tips on Samba performance and WIFI? The Wifi signal seems clear, I don't have the means to test a wired connection. USB dongle is a WUSB600N.

    DB:2.67:Slow Samba With Freenas fm

Well, I only have a single Windows box accessing the NAS with SMB, and it gets about 15-20 MB / sec.

It's a Core i3 processor, and a single core maxes out when I copy large files.

My Linux Box (a Phenom II X6) can get about 25 MB / sec when I mount it with CIFS, and about 30 when I mount it NFS.

MY bottleneck is the disks I used (inexpensive "Desktop" grade disks.)

The 40 Meg number is QNAPs performance reference using Server/RAID - grade disks. Some of QNAP's top-tier units get 85 MB/sec with SMB.

As I sit writing this, I'm ripping 4 DVD ISOs simultaneously (one on the Linux box and three on the Win7 box) and getting an aggregate of 22MB/sec write performance, which is close to the max. The kids are watching an ISO on the wireless WDTV Live. It's glitched once or twice, but for the most part, it's smooth as silk.

Anyone else seeing this? Netgear - how could this be? I've never seen a client crash a router's entire radio before.

Have you tried changing channel for the 5Ghz? Is it also happening if you connect to the 2.4Ghz? You can try to reset the router, update the firmware (if it's not yet updated) or reflash it, this may help. I suggest you save the current settings of your router first before doing the reset.

Okay, I know another WUSB600N Post...

Network Setup: WRT610N Router Connected Via 5GHz w/ WPA2 AES Encryption

If you have Vista try this Start CMD Ping -t 192.168.1.1 (Or whatever IP your Router is) and let this run for about 10 Minutes. Most of the replies will be 1ms which is a good thing. Here lies the problem, Every I dunno 100 replies or so I get a massive ping spike and by massive I mean 2000-4000ms. I first noticed it when trying to play games right after I got my WUSB600N and it was getting really bad lag every minute or so. I took the USB adapter and plugged it directly (by-passing the USB Extension)into my 2nd PC (A Laptop also running Vista) and Installed the driver for it, and it had the same exact issue. The Built-In wireless on my laptop (Intel 4965AGN) does NOT have this issue (therefore ruling out my router).

So I took it back to the store thinking I just had a bad one. Got the new one it had the same problem! So at this point I reformatted my Desktop machine and Installed XP W/SP3, problem solved it doesn't have this problem what-so-ever in XP, Ruling out the device itself as being the root of the issue. The issue all boils down to the Vista32 Driver. I do not know if this problem happens in Vista64. I don't have 4 Gigs of RAM so there is no point for me to install it.

Also of Note I tried setting my router to WEP, No Encryption and WPA2 TKIP, and 2.4GHz and all resulted in the same outcome.

    -Kev

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: I just reformatted and installed Vista64 and the same thing happens in64-Bit Vista as well.So all versions of Vista are effected by this.

When my Windows 7 system goes to sleep, the WUSB600N adapter does not restart unless I unplug it and replug it into the USB buss or restart the computer. I have tried moving the adapter to a continuously powered external USB hub. The pwr LED stays lit the whole time, but when the computer wakes up the adabpter does not. It does not even appear int he Device Manager Network Adapters list, not will, even after a "Discover New Hardware" attempt is made.

Never had this problem with a wireless adapter before! Is there anyway to make this work?

DB:2.67:Wusb600n Doesn't Restart After (Win7 Os) Computer Sleeps cj

Worse yet, the WUSB600N has also been randomly disconnecting from the network with no apparent reason. I'm 7 feet from the wireless router with a signal of -50dbm (excellent).

Several times a day, however, the WUSB600N just drops off the network so I can no longer access other machines on the LAN nor the Internet. All the while the LED on the WUSB600N is blinking away as if it is a happy camper, leading me to believe the adapter is fine but the device driver software is faulty!!!!

Come on LinkSys, I've seen hundreds of posts on the internet about this problem with the WUSB600N. Wake up. Smell the roses, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

    Let's have a fix!

If your wireless client is capable of connecting to both 2.4 5 GHz bands, it will automatically choose the one that will provide it with the best bandwidth performance. There is no need for you to select which band, just which network. By default, the AirPorts use the same Network Name for both bands.
