DB:3.36:Best And Proven Architecture For Implementing Logistics Edi Using Biztalk 2010 88

    Hi ,
Our company is exploring whether it can use BizTalk as a platform for handling EDI from various trading partners. IS there a sample application or model architecture which will show all the benefits of using BizTalk as EDI engine. How BAM is used to track
EDI messages etc. We should convince our management for utilizing BizTalk as middle ware for handling EDI and communicating to JD Edwards one world ERP.
Can you suggest any articles apart from general EDI tutorials from microsoft and general EDI and AS2 with BizTalk materials from MSDN. I have explored these materials already.

We are currently implementing APEX. I would like help wrt designing our workspace environment. Do I create a w/space per application or divide the workspaces per business entity, eg finances, logistics, buying etc. Thanks in advance.

    DB:2.64:Workspace Best Practice 8a

    Hi Leond (?) ,

Creating workspaces has a technical apsect and a functional aspect.
Technically you have to choose with respect to the relationship of schemas in your database and your workspace.

Functionally you have take into account: (common) users, authorization, and so on.

What I do is making a create/use matrix of my datamodel and making areas of common entities. It means a functional division. Most of the time it has to do with business units but I recommend to take a look to the process you're supporting with your application.

Example: we have built a crm for the organisation. each department uses it.
but some departments have their own applications. we have created one workspace/schema for the entities related to the crm, and one schema for every department for their own entities.

Always we decide which entites belong to which workspace/schema by asking : if we stop this activity/process do we still need to maintain this entity. If yes, it belongs to another workspace/schema; If no, it belongs to the schema where we support the process.

    hope this helps.

DB:2.58:Quo Vadis Documentum 7.0? Whar Are Your Expectations For Documentum 7.0 Regarding Content Server And Architecture? s9

    Dear members,

To start this forum I would like to ask you, what you (as Documentum customer, user or consultant) are expecting from the upcoming EMC Documentum 7.0 release concerning the changes in the overall architecture.

The core part of a Documentum implementation the Content Server has become a stable corner stone in each Documentum deployment. The overall architecture has survived the changes from Documentum 4i, to Documentum 5.x and finally to Documentum 6.x.

The way to connect to File systems (SAN, NAS) and CAS (EMC Centera and other) is field tested, as well as the usage of the classic relational database systems (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 and Sybase).

The best practices of how to install, operate and scale up Documentum have become an inherent part of know how in the Documentum community.

Now, with Documentum 7.0 this should change. But from our point of view what part of the content Server should be changed? What are OUR expectations for the new architecture?

Should the proven architecture (Content Server, database, file system) be broken up?Is xDB the right basement for the Documentum 7.0 repository? What are YOUR requirements, if YOU could define and develop the new Documentum 7.0 architecture?

I am looking forward to a lively discussion.

    Best Regards, Helfried Pirker

DB:2.58:Quo Vadis Documentum 7.0? Whar Are Your Expectations For Documentum 7.0 Regarding Content Server And Architecture? s9

    Hi Kevin,

For development I hear two different technologies that should replace WDK one is as you mention Flex already used in the media workspace. The other is an AJAX based framework used for developing Center Stage.

Regarding Flex I have some doubts because in Flex a developer cannot really change a lot. So as a consultant I hope the AJAX framework will be the successor of WDK.

    Dear all,

trying to develop in the new jboss 7, i can undestand that is a nice playground to test new things BUT is far from being an appserver to be use for

developing production critical systems. The only reason for it for me is clear and that's why i will probably will go back to JBoss 6.

THERE IS NO DESCENT DOCUMENTATION. Is clear for me when i have to choose, i would go for something that isn't cutting edge but is well documented, rather than something that is promised to be good but has no real documentation. We all know that coding is one thing but documentation something totally different and i think there was the success of the jboss appserver until now.The documentation was verbose and complete, whereas with the new version the team decided not to give the top QA it used to give on documenting the new appserver

.When i have a question on my head at the end the solution is to get from Git the sources and debug.BUT that's not productive.I want to focus on developing my application and not trying to discover how the app server works by reading the entire source tree. For me the biggest burden for example currently is that we all read about the jboss module architecture that will bring revolution to the way we deploy and handle applications. But tell me why i shouldn't choose over the OSGi that is REALLY WELL DOCUMENTED and has proven it's value. No after some flame-modeon/flame-mode.

I need a clear answer where i can find documentation for implementing the following using jboss modules(links like classloading how to and jboss modules AREN'T accepted as valid BECAUSE THERE IS NO VALUABLE INFORMATION ON THEM.):

Module1: contains persistence.xml and the entity classses..

Module2: conatains the EJB's for the business layer and MUST be able to use the Module1.So there is a dependency from Module2-Module1.

Module3: contains the .war which will be the interface and is clear that :Module3-Module2-Module1 and Module3-Module1.

    I have created the com/test/module1/main com/test/module2/main and the resulting module.xml file respectively.But I DON'T SEE the modules

to be loaded.Trying to figure out how the classloadin will take place i am more confused than cleared.

The documentation of JBoss Module can only be characterised the lease deficient.

At the end i think i will either choose to go back to JBoss6 or go with the OSGi solution which i know how to do things.

at your disposal for any clarification.

    best regards

    Nikos,

I also would like to see AS7-1769 (sharing PUs between separate application deployments). As mentioned on the forum discussion, each application that depends on the other application with the PU, will have a dependency on the PU application.

I haven't had a chance to work on this myself. The jira is unassigned so that any community contributor can jump in and work on it. I think the general idea is best described in the above forum post link.

    Hi,

My team and I are implementing BAO and we are looking at a high availability architecture. We understand that the GRID architecture offers a high availability one per default as long as there are 2 APs and that the AP and CDP are not the same host.

Along with the CDP, comes the Access Manager, Web Services and OCP. We are planing to install those 3 components on the same server than the CDP. Now if the CDP server (hardware) fails, the AP will take over but the OCP will not be available.

We have heard about the HA-CDP. Would you have documentation, architecture diagram that explains the integration/best implemtation practice between CDP and HA-CDP ensuring a high availability of the architecture?

    Hi Atte,

As you rightly said Inbound logistics includes procurement; inbound transportation; products, materials or services reception; inspection; repacking, putaway, etc.

I was just explaining him the concept of inbound logistics by refering procurement as an example or part of inbound logistics.

As a defination of Inbound Logistics you can refer it ias below:

    bInbound Logistics:/b

Following the receipt of materials, parts or resale products from external suppliers, the subsequent storage, handling, and transportation requirements to facilitate either manufacturing or market distribution constitute inbound logistics.

    Hope this clarifies.

DB:2.42:Sap Module For Allocating Supply Chain In-Directs And Logistics Cost j1

Kunal,My understanding is that your main objective is to include supply chain costs in inventory value (not standard cost estimate) as you use ML anyway. As far as I'm aware there are 3 ways you can capitalise "delivery" costs into inventory:1. Shipment Costing - it's part of TSW module. Using shipment costing you can capitalise "delivery" costs for externally purchased materials, inter and intra company transfers. Works especially well when you transportation costs directly depend on the volume of transported material.Limitation: it works only for externally provided transportation services, not for internal.2. Capitalisation via production/process order. You collect transportation costs on cost centre and allocate them to process/production order. Works both for internal and external transportation.Limitation: how to correctly apportion costs to different products3. Delivery costs in Purchase Order: works only for externally purchased materialsRegards,Szymon

Would you recommend holding on to BW 3.5 and wait let's say 6 months to give BW 7.0 the change to penetrate the market and prove itself or just take your chances and go for it.

I would appreciate your argumented thoughts on this.

    Thanks!

    It depends on several things:

-How conservative the project managers are?. My current client always wants to be one release behind the market to avoid being on bleeding edge.

-Is there anything appealing for you in 7.0. If you are very heavy on EDW layer, data mining with ILS then you may want to start with 7.0

-How flexible the project timelines budgets are?. If very flexible then I would go with 7.0 or else 3.5.

    just to list a few...

    Hello everyone,

positive response. We are planning to implement OEM
Grid Control in our company. Can anyone suggest what
would be the best architecture to do so ? Our
platform is HP-UX 11i.Thing to have in mind:
How big the managed targets are (The number of targets ect). Difference in platform (Operation System, Software, Hardware). Difference in architecture and and compartibility with Grid control. How many users will be manageing Grid Control. How many Notification schedules and monitoring settings. How may jobs you want to schedule to run though EM. How many exisiting shell and SQL scripts you would like to migrate to Grid Control or activate from Grid COntrol. E.g, those running as cronjobs etc.

This what i am planning for the Pilot installation.
    OMS: Seperate Server.
Repository: Seperate Server.Ensure both servers has access to each other. The OS of the Repository and all managed targets are compartible with the Management Agents. Manage all firewall settings ( if they are separated by one) to enable successful Agent Uploads, OMS Repository access.

All default ports to be changed for secure
implementation .. ( This is apart from securing the
Grid ).You can use static ports during install or change the ports after install. There are documented proceedures for changing all the required ports. Aganet secure process is also documented

Did any of you guys implement this way ? Any
Implications / Suggestions ?Take care of the above config and you will have no "big" issues

EMC's Information Intelligence Group is pleased to offer a new product/technology specific credential:

EMC SourceOne Archiving Design and Architecture

This credential is awarded after successful completion of the EMC SourceOne Archiving Design and Architecture exam (E22-184).

The EMC SourceOne Archiving Design and Architecture exam is available starting today, May 13, 2011.

Information about this exam can be found here: http://mylearn.emc.com/portals/home/ml.cfm?actionID=451type=so_ada

Click the E22-184 Exam Description link in the Exam Details box on the right of the page. We suggest that you read through the exam description and consider your level of knowledge for each of the topics. The certification exam is built around that description.

You may want to try the practice exam, which is also accessible in the Exam Details box. That will provide you with an opportunity to assess your readiness for the certification exam, and it will provide detailed feedback about areas that you may want to study further. It's important that you only take the practice test once to make the best use of this resource. Repeating it will eventually get you a better score as you 'guess' answers, but the goal is to determine if you know the topics that are covered in the 'real' exam. Passing the practice exam doesn't guarantee that you will pass the certification exam, but it's one free resource that you can use to prepare.

The course that you can purchase to prepare for this exam is listed on the exam page.

For more information about EMC's Information Intelligence Group's offerings in the EMC Proven Professional certification program as well as all IIG Education Services offerings, consult our myLearn portal. Please contact Amy Pickard, Certification Program Manager for EMC's Information Intelligence Group, with any questions about this certification.

    Good luck on the exam!

Troubleshooting Avamar Server management implementing best practices with ianderson

Welcome to the EMC Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn how to troubleshoot Avamar Server managment.

Ian Anderson started with EMC in 2009 as a member of the NetWorker support team, moving into Avamar support that same year. Ian was privileged join the Avamar Engineering team in 2011 as a specialist in Avamar Server training, troubleshooting and repair. He has travelled to a number of EMC centers, delivering training and mentorship on the Avamar product to the global Avamar team. Ian is an EMC Proven Professional and a Microsoft Certified Professional. Ian is on Twitter - @ionthegeek.

    This eventis now concluded.

A summary document of the main points of converasation in this discussion can be viewed here:

Summary - Ask the Expert: Avamar Server management best practices (2012-04-06)

DB:2.37:Avamar Server Management Best Practices mf

We plan to migrate a few thousand servers to several Avamar grids. But we don't want to throw too many first-time on-demand backups at an Avamar grid all at once.

How many is too many? Or is there any reason not to queue up on-demand backups for 1,000 different servers and wait for them to complete?

(Obviously we don't want to throw more data at the grid than it can hold after being de-duped. We think we have that part figured out.)

    Another way of saying it:

    We can monitor various things:

total client GB that will be ingested,

number of sessions in use on the Avamar server,

    disk IO,

    CPU utilization,

etc. Is there a metric on one of these that we should be careful not to exceed?

    And especially this one:http://merbist.com/2012/04/04/building-and-implementing-a-single-sign-on-solution/
Most modern web applications start as a monolithic code base and, as complexity increases, the once small app gets split
apart into many “modules”. In other cases, engineers opt for aSOAdesign
approach from the beginning. One way or another, we start running multiple separate applications that need to interactseamlessly. My goal will be to describe some of the high-level challenges and solutions found in implementing a Single-Sign-On service.

    Hi,

in Logistics Invoice Verification, Define Attributes of System Messages what is the difference between

message 082 Price too high (tolerance limit of exceeded) and 083 Price too high (tolerance limit of % exceeded) ?

    Best regards

    DB:2.36:Miro Logistics Invoice Verification. ac

Using OMR6 you can configure Tolerance limits.

    Now check PP: Price variance

This compares the variance with the upper and lower limits defined for absolute limits and percentage limits.

Now when the absolute limit is crossed system will give you 082 (simple words - absolute value variance)

and when percentage limit is crossed system will throw 083 (simple words - percentage variance)

    Now this should be clear.

We are working with a client implementing IPCC 5, CCM3.3 and Unity 4 VM only into a green field site, but it needs to fit in with the existing network architecture. We want to develop with the best fit for Microsoft domain membership.

The existing domain architecture is that all devices are members of domain COMPANY. Existing email is delivered to Exchange Servers in the COMPANY domain.

Proposals are that the Roggers become domain controllers of domain IPTEL, Unity VM becomes a domain member of this, and CCM is initially run as workgroup.

Counter proposals are that the Roggers are controllers for domain IPCC, CCM servers are members of this domain and Unity is part of the domain COMPANY (Unity may migrate to a Unified Messaging at some point). A one way trust is to exist between the IPCC and the COMPANY domain.

How have other people implemented this - and why?

When checking the user list in config manager, I'm not listed correctly. Hi all,
i am new to silverlight. i want to know which is best and simple architecture to develop silverlight application.
To develop normal asp.net applications we are using n-tier architecture like below.
    1) DAL--BAL--Abstract(Interfaces)

    2) webservices(implementing interfaces here). --UI.

    please help.

DB:2.32:Which Is Best Architecture To Develop Silverlight Application? pf

Similar in Silverlight but depend on your preference, you have an option to leverage the BAL to the client side which is SilverlightApplication (but start on the server side with the help of WCF RIA Services).
Also, MVVM is a good programming style that takes advantage of data binding featurein Silverlight/WPF toanother level that you should be used.
    So typically:
    EF-supportedDatabase --EF -- WCF-RIA Services -- MVVM -- Silverlight Application
    or
Some other databases -- DAL (via ADO.NET) -- WCF Services-- MVVM -- Silverlight Application

I've been doing some research into EMC's reference architectures.....a few questions

On my Partner-view of Powerlink, I see reference architectures for View 4.5 on VNX with NFS and Block, for View 5 I'm only seeing VNX with NFS. Is there a Block proven solution?I understand the View 4.5 Proven Solution is for 2,000 Desktops, and the View 5 NFS solution is for 1,000 Desktops, but still I'm a little confused on the vast differences between these two. A) 45 Spindles on a 5300 in the View 5 ref architecture, but 195 spindles on a 5700 for the 2,000 user ref architecture??? Something seems more out of whack than just the change from 1000 - 2000 users. There seems to be a pretty significant change in spindles for User data. But, why go from 15 FAST Cache drives all the way down to 3 FAST Cache drives?

    DB:2.32:Emc Proven Solutions - Vmware View j7

I have been told by EMC VDI soution guy that block storage is expected to have better performance than NFS. Why do they put 195 spindles and 15 EFD on VNX5700? they said they were not trying to do the sizing but finish the reference architecture test. Undoubtly, you can find much better performance data on this oversized configuration. I tended to believe you can count on VNX 5300 configuration to support 1000 users.

DB:2.31:Need Some Help With Where To Start... zz

I've been browsing forums, watching videos, etc; but I'm still not 100% sure where to begin; so here's alittle about me and what I want to achieve; hope it's enough information for someone to point me at an in to .NET development...

I'm an experienced developer (over 20 years); but nearly all of which has been in non-MS environments. Many years ago I did some work in VB and C); and about 10 years ago I taught myself C by writing a DirectX 'Tetris-like' game; but that's really the
extent of my MS development knowledge.
My main areas of expertise are in ERP/Logistics/Warehousing and so in order to learn MS development I would like to develop something in this vein - something database-centric, with transaction control and a couple of simple data entry and enquiry screens.
I picture an architecture where the database and heavy-duty transactional code 'live together' and are accessed by means of services (does this mean web-services in 'MS-Speak' ?). Presumably this sort of architecture leaves maximum flexibility for
client deployment (on the same PC, on an internal network, or accessing services over the web - same client just pointed at the right place to find the services?)
I'm very keen on OO principles and architecture and have imlemented methods in other languages that look like pretty close relations to the 'Model-View-ViewModel' philosophy I've come across on MSDN.

So with all this in mind I think my requirements suggest learning more about WPF development ?
    - does that sound reasonable?

I was elated a few days ago when I found a really nice, well written tutorial 'The Entity Framework and ASP.NET Getting Started' which goes through the steps required to develop a simple database-centric application (the Contoso University sample
web application). But my 'gut' reaction to what I've seen of ASP.NET is that it doesn't offer the UI richness and control I'd like to explore; and that whilst the 'Forms' technology is still alive and well; WPF knowledge appears to be a better place
to start if you're starting now and looking to the long term desktop development.
Silverlight looks great but my perception is that it's a bit 'light' for what I'm doing - I want some nice screens and I'm not 'anti browser-based' development; I just suspect it's not the best technology for the sort of application I'd like to try and write
(although I'd be happy to be proved wrong).
Anyway, this is getting lengthy, so if you're still with me; here's the problem -
I can't find a good place to start. I understand C# syntax and OO principles and like most self-confessed geeks I know I won't really start learning until I start developing - something simple like an enquiry screen that prompts for a
search string, accesses a service to get some results; returns the dataset and displays it on-screen; implementing 'best practices' from an MS OO perspective. All the examples pitched at my level seem to do clever things with Twitter, etc and that's not what
    I want to learn.
So if anyone could please make some recommendations about the sort of methodologies that fit my requirements; and any particular tutorials, bloggers, etc you think would help then I'd be extremely grateful; I really want to get started and learn but for
the past couple of weeks I feel all I've done is made several 'false-starts'.

DB:2.31:Need Some Help With Where To Start... zz

Thank you for those link -a bit of a shame that after the terrific introduction videos, etc there isn't a more coherent link to the available resources like those.
Anyway, thanks again; the WPF samples there look like the sorts of things I've been searching for.

I'm still not 100% sure that I'm setting off down the right route; but I'm leaning towards WPF, so will go down that road and see what I find :)

    Dear All,

What are the advantage or disadvantage of implementing IASP in any production server without implementing high availability solution.

    Best Regards,

    DB:2.31:Iasp dz

What you'll get is another database, an independent ASP adds a remote DB to your system.

If you nstall the iASP on an external storage device like an IBM DS8000 you could use features like flashcopy what would make your system backup routine a lot easier.

If you plan to move to an HA solution later on you can always move your system to the iASP when the need arises. There is no penality for not having installed the system directly on the iASP.

    Hope this helps

I am a best practice kind of guy, but am also willing to try new things if the technical theory is proven beneficial. So I'm reaching out to the community on this one. I follow TR-3749 when setting up VMware storage on NetApp implementing the 3 standard NFS volumes to place the VM's on, 1 for the operating system\application directories, 1 for the ESXi swap files, and 1 for the VM page files.

I recently had a customer mention creating a fourth to separate out the application directories. He heard this somewhere, that it will allow for more efficient dedup of the OS volume since the application directories and data (outside of SQL and Exchange) are not in there. I told him the deduplication percentage goes up because there are less total blocks divided by blocks dedupped in the equation. I'm not buying into this. As long at the OS is aligned dedup should find all duplicate blocks within the volume no matter how much data is in there, correct? I see the added volume (Windows partition) being unnecessary and just an extra item to manage and a possible point of failure. Am I correct in thinking this way or separating out the application binaries will all for better dedup?

If u have all the functionality working with gentran then i suggest dont replace it with Xi and Seeburger.

if u r going to replace it then

    1) u need to purchase the XI license and Seeburger license which increase the cost.

    2) It will be totally different skill sets is required for seeburger adapter.

    3) it will be new development and Development effort will increase and which will consume more time.

While process and technology are forefront considerations when implementing technical innovation, the human component of such initiatives is often an under-managed focus of attention during the course of implementation. Consequently, transformative implementations often have trouble achieving objectives and benefit realization if the customers adoption of technology is neglected.

To realize effective transformation and innovation adoption, the client organization and its members must become increasingly skillful, consistent, and committed in their use and adoption of these solutions.

Awarded 1st place in the 2012 Knowledge Sharing Competition, this article by Joseph Llano, Kevin Feller, John Klinck, and Brian Brew introduces EMC Proven Professionals to two specific client-organizational factors that drive effective implementations and influence service delivery of transformational client-centered solutions: a climate for transformation, and the transformation-values fit. These factors are adopted from innovation management and implementation research.

The authors offer insight and tools to help ensure that competitive advantage is realized by early adopting solution-receiving customers. The Transformational Effectiveness Quadrant is presented as a tool that helps identify implementation challenges and predict effective realization of IT Transformation. Two implementation case studies regarding cloud computing and big data innovations illustrate the utility of the Transformation Effectiveness Quadrant and best practice considerations when preparing customers for solution implementations. Guidelines for project-level service delivery innovations contingent on these factors are presented to improve Total Customer Experience and accelerate IT Transformation.

    DB:2.29:Writing A Knowledge Sharing Article (Prepositions) 7x

I read and edit many of the EMC Proven Professional Knowledge Sharing articles. They arrive from all over the world, in places as close as the good old USA, and as far away as APJ, EMEA and virtually every country on earth. I can only imaging how difficult it must be to write an article in English; particularly for those whose first language is not English. But every article has its particular challenges. Today, I'd like to focus on prepositions.

Every once in a while, when editing an article, I'll come across a sentence that I just don't understand. I'll read it, read it again, read it aloud and still.....I just don't get it. Most of the time, if I just change the preposition it makes sense.

A Preposition indicates the relationship between one word and another. For example, She paused at the gate; This tomato is ripe for picking. Common prepositions include at, by, for, from, in, into, on, to, and with.

Using the correct preposition can make your work more concise, more clear, and much easier to read. Here are some examples of sentences that are good, and how they can be improved just by changing the preposition:

Good: "They prefer to test every new solution on the test environment ....."

Better: "They prefer to test every new solution in the test environment....."

Good: "IT organizations should consider implementing a reference architecture that provides ....."

Better: "IT organizations should consider implementing a reference architecture to provide......"

Good: "There is no flexibility on using the external memory......"

Better "There is no flexibility when using the external memory...."

To make your writing even more effective, pay attention to your prepositions! Often, reading your article a day or two after you have finished it provides you with a whole new perspective.

    Hi experts,

    only goods receipt is considered

    IF ( COMM_STRUCTURE-processkey EQ '000' "Other Receipts

OR COMM_STRUCTURE-processkey EQ '001' "Goods Receipt / Vendor

    AND COMM_STRUCTURE-bwapplnm EQ 'MM'

only movements which are relevant for stock control

    AND COMM_STRUCTURE-stockrelev EQ '1'

    AND COMM_STRUCTURE-cppvlc 0

    see OSS note 630254

AND ( COMM_STRUCTURE-stockcat IS INITIAL OR

    ( COMM_STRUCTURE-stockcat CA 'EQ' AND

    COMM_STRUCTURE-indspecstk CA 'AM' ) ).

    result value of the routine

    RESULT = COMM_STRUCTURE-cppvlc.

In the related datasource, the fields processkey, bwapplnm, stockrelev.. are empty, so no one key figure is filled in the cube.

I've followed the note 353042 - Howto: Activate transaction key (PROCESSKEY), and it says that we need to select the industry sector (RETAIL in our case) following this path in SBIW transaction

Data Transfer to the SAP Business Information Warehouse-Settings for Application-Specific DataSources (PI)-Logistics-Settings: Purchasing-Determine Industry Sector

The industri sector is OK- Retail, but no data appears in the extractor check..

How can I implement load balancing over the suggested architecture?

I know that EIGRP support load balancing over equal costs. Is it valid for my scenario?

    Hello,

I am looking for opinions and advice on setting up logistics for contracting work but I do not really know where to start. I guess my primary concern or issue is a payment schedule. What, in your opinion is the "best" way to set something like this up, from both the clients perspective and the drafting companies perspective. I already know that there are quite a few ways to correspond, so I am not too concerned about correspondence. But I cannot decide on what's best for everyone as far as payment goes. Any advice with this is much appreciated. Thanks.

    DB:2.29:Re: Cad Logistics sa

If a builder is making use of a drafter as a sole trader, then they are (generally) getting it cheaper than though a large company. If so, they should agree to 7 day terms.

Raphael Soeiro, Jody Goncalves, and Rodrigo Alves all work at EMC Education Services in Franklin, MA. While working in the same physical location, they dont usually cross paths in the projects they take on. However, for the 2014 Knowledge Sharing Competition, these three EMC Proven Professionals worked together to write 2014: An SDS Odyssey*, published this month. Rodrigo, Raphael, and I dont often work directly together in our day jobs, so it was nice to be able to share information and ideas with them, said Jody.

The first published Knowledge Sharing article for each of them, the article explores the importance and considerations of storage tiering and classification for implementing an SDS environment.

The authors shared how they came to join forces on developing and writing their Knowledge Sharing article, the experience they brought to the process, and the thought leadership and best practices that their article contribute as the industry adopts Software Defined Storage in greater numbers.

In his role at EMC, Raphael develops pre-GA training; he is currently working on the pre-GA training for the ScaleIO 1.30 release. Raphael started thinking about writing a paper on the topic last year, when he co-developed the first release of the EMC ViPR course.

Jody manages a team that develops and delivers technical training, currently working on Solutions training. She recently finished the launch of the new Technology Architect EMC Information Storage Solutions Specialist certification. Jody described her thinking on the article as SDS is relatively new and not many people have experience with it, nor is much written on the best practices. We thought we would help shed some light on an area that was important for a successful SDS implementation.

Rodrigo, whose role focuses on curriculum planning at EMC, added, We all have several years of work experience in IT, and have learned a lot along the way. Now with the world moving to software-defined everything, I wanted to explore and learn more about this topic, He hopes that the article will generate discussion on the topic. I am sure the technology, design, and implementation best practices will quickly evolve as companies adopt it.

My client is using customization in SAP version 4.7 to pay an IDOC generated invoice from a third party logistics provider due to the limitation of 999 line items on a service entry sheet. The client is currently implementing ECC. Does this limitation exist in ECC? Is there any other solution? Thanks in advance.

DB:2.28:The Limitation Of 999 Line Items On A Service Entry Sheet sj

    Hi,

Do you get message F5727 "Maximum number of items in FI reached"? reason is that in FI the posting line has a three-digit line item number (BSEG-BUZEI).

SAP's note 117708 provides a modification. I am pasting solution below.

Via the summarization you can post documents with more than 999 items in

    FI.

The modification required for this is small, in addition you have to

change 2 tables. The modification is carried out in FI not in invoice

    verification.

To activate document summarization in FI proceed as follows:

    - The changes are described in Note 36353 and for the

modification in Note 77161. You may also have to apply Note

67640 so that the document summarization affects inventory

    management.

    An advice for the notes:

36353: Solution point 3: Field name WERKS

77161: Solution point 2: Maintain table TTYPV with Transaction

    SE16

    - this has the following effects; you can no longer clear the

GR/IR clearing account on purchase order item level (but only

on purchase order level) and you can only display the FI data

    summarized (also see Note 36353)

    - invoice verification itself has a six-digit line item number.

    Hello All
I'm starting to research the potential for implementing an extranet, and was after some general ideas, ways of thinking and best practices etc.
In terms of a very basic architecture, we have: SAP (source data) Teradata (staging, warehouse) MS BI (SSRS/SSAS front end).
I'm looking at sharing the majority of the MS BI front end data (KPI's,aggregateddata etc) with external clients, and am after some general ideas: pro's/con's, things to watch out for, possible technological solutions etc.
My initial thoughts so far are to h ave another data warehouse on top of the current architecture, which will contain only the necessary information, ready for sharing. Whatkindof options would Share Point give me?
Not looking for an instant solution overnight - this is a very high level overview, and only the beginnings of my research - would appreciate any starting points?
    Best regards,

    Hi James,

We do not recommend using JSPs on one tier and EJBs on the other, so
the 2-tier architecture is suggested. The limitations of the multi-tier
    architecture are discussed here:

Can you please tell me if there is any process like this in SAP logistics execution transportation.

If so, can you tell how configure the process flow and report any report for mass verifier and approval.

Hi everyone! I have 2 EMC Proven Professional certifications, the EMCIE and the EMCTA for (both for SAN).

One thing I like about being an EMC Proven Professional is that I am tied to a community that actually understands what I do for a living. I mean, have you ever tried to explain what you do at work to your parents?

What about you? What do you think is the best thing about being an EMC Proven Professional?

DB:2.27:What Is The Best Thing About Being An Emc Proven Professional? ac

    Hi Sheila,

If you are looking for the list of training materials and courses to review before the exam, there are a few different options. I'm not sure exactly which NAS specialist exam you are looking at taking, so I'll point you to the list of everything. If you log in to education.emc.com, then click on "Certification" near the top left corner, you will find a list of all the Proven exams that are available. Find the job title that best matches your own, and follow the NAS link from there. You will be able to see a list of recommended materials for both the Specialist and Expert level exams as well as any alerts if the exam content is going to be updated soon.

The only other pointers I can give you is study hard, try the practice exams so you have an idea of your level of understanding of the material, review any areas where you feel you may be weak, and get a good night's rest and a good meal before the exam. And good luck!

I am considering implementing an IP Allow List in Exchange 2010 on a Small Business Server 2011.
I am looking for recommendations of Allow List Providers that have proven useful to the community.

A quick way to find out ip allow list provider is to use a search engine and look for DNS whitelist (which is the name commonly used for such a thing); that said,

this page lists some of those providers and offers links to gather further informations about them (notice that some of the infos are outdated, yet, the page may be a good start)
A couple whitelist which you may try as a startup are the
    spamhaus whitelist and the
dnswl just read the linked documents for details about the lists and their usage
Also, and since we're at it, a decent source of informations (and statistics) about DNS black and white lists is

this one; the site contains statistics about various DNSBL and DNSWL including their efficiency, their false-positives ratio and so on

DB:2.27:Is There An Impact To Participating In The Knowledge Sharing Competition pj

Why Not Michelle ! So I will start here from the begining . I am Computer Engineer by profession and the first step that I think that was the most significant in shaping my career was enrolling in EMC Academy and then clearing Information Storage and Management Certification . It was ISM Certification that helped me to secure a Job in the tough recesssion times of 2008-2009 . And this information industry became my passion thereafter . I wrote a Knowledge Sharing Article with the experiences that I gained from my Job Role and when I was writing I learnt a lot as I explored new things while writing relating to the technology and the upcoming technologies . And when it was judged as the Best in BURA cateogory I was called to US by EMC and that expereince was like once in a life time meeting product experts from various geographies of the World was a dream come true for me . And as Michelle mentioned my next Article is coming up next February writing has become my passion . And what I have learnt is that more you will share your knowledge the more you will gain from that .

For me clearing ISM and then publishing of my Knowledge Sharing Article were the key differentiators for me to Join my Dream Company EMC2.

    Hi,
I'm looking for the Reports in Silverlight4. I'm using PRISM right now. whats the best proven reporting option available for Silverlight 4? I've used one 3rd party reporting component. But I'm not yet fully satisfied with it as it already has very much limitations
in the very begining and I don't want to end up using such thing for my complex business app which may be make me alter the whole application architecture.

Is there any way to incorporate RDLC in silverlight. I don't just want to show my RDLC in a popup without validating session. Or may be some other client side reports in silverlight. So any pointers?

I recommend looking into Telerik Reporting. It has report viewers for Silverlight 4, WPF, WinForms, and ASP.NET AJAX.

    Hello,

can some on suggest wat is going to be the best architecture if i have the following rwuirements:

1)I have 1000 concurrent users simultaneously accessing the system at a given point of time out of total10000 users.
2)I have total of 18 view level screens. which will take actions from user and display the data.
3)All the operations are only read only operation(No update or insert)
4)The applications performance have to be good in terms of response time

5)Do i have to go for application server and stteless session beans for this???
6)Is there any proven architecture to be used in this scenrio???

    DB:2.26:Deciding On Architecture s1

Of course, this depends on the application specific requirements. One way (that we implemented in our client/server architecture) is to use sockets. The server has a separate thread to listen for new clients or requests from already connected clients. If a specific server businesscase can send a message or result to a client it just informs an interface (BusinessLogicListener). One implementation is in the server and it routes those messages forward to all connected clients. The clients can then decide what to do with the message. Of course, you could also init a client connection with some message types to just send specific messages to specific clients.

Just a hint: try to invest heavy thinking in threading and synchronization. And don't forget to ensure freeing listener resources or this will be a definit memory leak source for your server. (Use weak references for listeners). Once it runs, it's very cool to connect from any client to any server and send commands/requests and get any kind of response data. Try to use a general message object that can contain any kind of data (meaning: java.lang.Object that implements Serializable). You probably want to deploy new releases of client or server with the old versions of server and client continue working (serialVersionUID!).

But first: write down your requirements: as exact as possible.
