Since a few days we have a lot of crashes with Trusteer Rapport. If you have this program, try to disable it and see if that stops the crashing.

You can stop Rapport using Start Menu Programs Trusteer Rapport Stop Rapport

You can ask their helpdesk when an updated version of their product will be made available or, if you don't need this software, uninstall it.

    http://www.trusteer.com/support/en/report-problem

If you do not have Rapport, then we need to have a crash report ID. When you send Mozilla a crash report it just puts it in a giant database. We have no way of looking it up without the Report ID. I have no idea what is wrong without looking up the crash report. Please get the Report ID of your latest crash report.

Firefox version both 13.0.1 and 14.0.1 crashes.
    I'm using Bitdefender IS 2013.

    DB:4.79:Firefox Crashes 3c

    Chosen Solution

I bought and installed Bitdefender antivirus plus 2013 having used McAfee for 15 years, a big mistake. Bitdefender software is full of bugs which manifest themselves across a number of browsers. I have since purged it from my PC and returned to McAfee.

I have 4 browsers installed and can confidently confirm that Bitdefender is not compatible with my favourite browser, Firefox 15. Even with antiphising disabled it screws Firefox up repeatedly freezing screens, particularly on Flash videos, and in most cases requiring a Task Master process to terminate Firefox, or worse still a reboot if Firefox goes into Safe Mode when restarted.

Quick test: Load "The Beatles - Abbey Road - YouTube" switch back and forwards between the standard screen and full screen at a normal rate, occasionally changing the time scrollbar, and when on the standard screen scroll it up and down. Guaranteed to freeze.

The Bitdefender product is nowhere remotely intuitive and the Help File is woefully lacking in content. Bitdefender support is next to non-existent, they just ignore requests for assistance, possibly hoping you will just give up and blame someone else like Firefox or Adobe. They have obviously not tested their product with a range of browsers and the most commonly used add-ons.

It is not up to Firefox or Adobe to make their software work with an antivirus product, quite the contrary; and I know of at least one that works perfectly.

My advice is do not use Bitdefender if you want troublefree browsing with Firefox.

    Hi cor-el:

I apologize for the confusion. I posted the Troubleshooting information from the Aurora 9.0 build -- which actually is not crashing at startup.

The nightly build 10.0 and 7.0.1 Ubuntu versions are the ones crashing at startup.

Also -- I tried running both the 10.0 and 7.0.1 versions via safe mode (disabling everything) but they still both crash at startup.

I'm OK using the non-crashing Aurora 9.0 version for now. I'm hoping that future updates to the 10.0 and 7.0.1 will solve my issue in the future.

    Hi edwinstevens,

I'd try starting Firefox in Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide and the Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems article as well.

In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.

Hello joshashu, Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

    Hey jimmyredd66,

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

There is also a lot of useful stuff in the Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out this article as well.

    Hopefully this helps!
