    I had this problem where I could not call out - to anyone- not even the test service. The call started and then stopped. And I could not respond to any calls. I failed to notice the little message - "Problem with recording device". What recording device? Well - your microphone! OK, got that. I go to check the microphone, and it is fine - except NOTHING else can use it - none of the recording software.

    Saw a suggestion here - when you have the call up - click on the "call quality" button that is posted down in the corner. Never noticed that - thank you whoever posted that. I click on it, and it says: "Can't access yoursound card". Nice, ideomatic English - what's a sound card?

    Finally, after poking around - I found the problem. Some time ago, I had wanted to record something I was streaming so I could put it on a CD and share it with my wife. My handy recording software - Audacity - had a nice suggestion on how to do that. It involves brining up your sound options - rick click on the little speaker down there in the tray - select recording devices. In that window, right click and select "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices". There's a device there called the "stereo mix". If you ENABLE that, and make it the default, you can now select it for input and record things playing on the PC. BUT - it firmly locks up your sound card.

    I tried just NOT selecting it - making the microphone the default, as it was. That did not work. I had to select it and DISABLE it, before the sound card was freed up.

    Just putting this out there if someone has anything like this for a problem. I scratched my head quite a bit to get this one - with a bit of help from the community here. Thanks.

    2. Did you make any recent changes on your computer prior to this issue?
    3. Are you using built-in microphone or external microphone?

    When I answer a video call from my mom, I get a message that "There's a Problem with the call ... hold on while we try to get the call back." Then my computer calls her back, and when she 'answers with video' she gets the message that there's a problem with the recording device.

    looks like just a temporary connection issue to me, or possibly caused by problems related to internet connection speed and quality. moreover, I suggest that you both install the latest version of Skype (link pasted below) to ensure optimum performance from the software. also avoid using too many programs while video calling as your overall computer workload may also affect the quality of the call.

    after installation of Zoom Call Recording and sync it with CUCM 8.6.2 i have found, that if i turn on call recording on ip communicator and make a call - there is no "comfort noise" from me on other side. When  i don't talk, user on other side listen nothing and this makes discomfort. If i turn recording off - all works fine. This affects all calls (intercluster, PSTN etc.)

    By the way, recording on other devices (for example cisco 7942) - works without this problem.

    I have recently been having issues with Skype video calling to my contacts. When I call, the person on the other end is able to answer, but the call drops immediately after the answer. The person on the other end either gets a message saying "call dropped" or their skype crashes. On my end, I get a "Problem with recording device" error or Skype crashes. I am able to chat with anyone but once I call, skype messes up. I have used my account on other computers and the calls to my contacts are successful.     Hello,I have a CUCM 8.6.2.22900-9 (8.6.2aSU2) with Uccx 8.5.1 SU3 (premium license with QM)  and a QM 8.5(2)_SR2 on a UCS C210M2 server.I need to record all voice communication that come from a specific 7942 ip phone (non acd ip phone).For do this, i configured Built in bridge on the cucm server for duplicate the stream from the 7942 directory number to the QM. (network recording method)On the application user qm_jtapi, i add my ip phone on controlled devices.

    On the QM 8.5(2) (Windows 2008 R2 with SQL 2008), I completed the setup with no errors.I declared my ip phone on the Voip Device with the ip address recording Server and the recording type.

    When i make call, i can see with wireshark that the srtp stream arrive to the QM server but no files are recorded.

    I don't understand how qm know it must start the record.(sip message or via jtapi event ?)

    Is there a specific QM configuration  to the simple voice recording with BIB method ?

    Sorry, I forgot to give back to my problem.

    I was angry against the Calabrio team because they did not really help. It is thanks to the help of Graham that I turned on tests related to JAVA.

    My problem was solved by finding a correct version of java.

    With java jre 1.6.0_16 and 1.6.0_29, I can play voice recorded.

    With JRE 1.6.0_37 or JRE 1.6.0_35 or JRE 1.6.0_20, I cannot play voice recorded, i have the error : PLYR2003: there was a problem downloading the file. Try again or contact your monitoring and recording administrator.

    I do not know why with version JRE 1.6.0_20 does not work while in graham, it works.

    Calabrio team have no reponses.

    Personally I do not find this product super friendly, I do not some advertising to this product at my clients because of limitations (java and browser specification)

    If you click on the pull down arrow next to the Speakers box, are there are other choices that can be selected? If so, select them one at a time, checking with each one to see if talking causes green boxes to show in the bar under the Speakers selection.

    A lot of laptop audio drivers by default do some automatic switching when physically toggling between onboard and external mics. There may be an issue with settings in your sound drivers that could be creating the issue. Resetting to a default configuration would probably help. The easiest solution would be to get the latest updated audio driver suite package so a clean upgrade can be performed. This may correct errors that exist and help Skype adjust to the "new hardware".

    - I try to make a video call to a contact.

    - When the contact pick up the call my skype ends the call and i have the message "Problem with recording device"

    - When someone make a video call to me i do not have any problem to receive the call and the skype works fine.

    Also i do not have any problem with calls without video.I can receive and make calls with no problem at all.The problem is only when i try to make a video call to someone.

    My PC is running with Win Xp SP3 and the camera is the Logitech Webcam 310.

    The skype is updated to 6.0.0.126 version and the software of the Webcam is also updated.

    Making a call, be it to a person or an echo call, and it gets dropped the second it's answered, with a "Problem with recording device" error.     I called my parents several times via skype and everything worked perfectly. Now however, when we try and call, we get the message "Problem with Recording Device". The camera appears to be working.

    The problem is on their side. They get the same message with the echo/test call.

    The only time I received that error is when I installed Skype after re-installing my operating system. Then I fully update my operating system and installed the latest versions of the device drivers for my pc (display, webcam, microphone, audio), then the problem disappeared after. Not really suure if the same will work in your cases, but there's no harm in trying.

    I had the "Problem with recording device message" message suddenly start appearing for no reason. The cause was that Skype had decided not to use the microphone on my webcam but instead decided to take its audio input from a device called modem #0. Strange, as I don't have a modem.

    So the first problem is when I quit skype the task stays and I cant end it. Next after a call ends I have to restart my pc, by shutting off then on not automatic restart.     Try to use Echo/Sound test service, as well as a couple friends on the list and get the following message "Problem with recording device". I have also searched in the community, but found many issues releated, but no solutions that fit the problem.

    Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1; 64 - bit

    Tested in sound recorder, and records my voice, and able to playback and hear my horrible singing.

    I did find a rather odd way to resolve the issue temporarily. I also use hangouts from time to time, and when I start a video call, it will ring, and send out, and I can then call out using skype to a friend/sound test and it will work fine for the rest of the call. Able to talk, and do whatever.

    Unfortunatley, with the listed method above I have to repeat the process everytime I want to make a call, or accept someones call. Rather... Annoying.

    Any solution to this, or what can be causing this issue?

    HI everybody, i think i got the solution :

    On windows:

    1. click on windows start, type sound, click on the 'sound' dialog box.

    2. click on the 'recording' tab

    3.Double click on : Microphone, high definition audio device.

    4. On the 'general tab' check if the device is set to 'enabled' (below the box)

    5. Click on the 'levels' tab

    6. Set microphone to maximum (100% ) and microphone boost to 0.0

    7.click apply.

    On skype:

    1 log in

    2. Make a call on echo sound test service. It will guide you in a step to record your voice and make you hear what you said in the test. If it works, you are done.

    It worked for me.

    These troubleshooter should help with any camera or mic issues (unless the problem
    is hardware) however you will still likely need to work with Skype Support to get it
    working.

    It probably is the drivers that are loaded which may not really be the latest or they need to

    be re-installed anyway. The best way is to look manually using the methods below.

    References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

    Control Panel - Device Manager - SOUNDS - look for HD Audio - Mine says RealTek High

    Definition Audio(that is an example and yours may have an entirely different name/maker).

    Write down description make and model - double click on it - drivers tab - write down

    version. Now Click UPdate Drivers which may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying

    drivers. Then RIGHT CLICK on it and UNINSTALL- REBOOT - this will rebuild the driver

    stack.

    You may have the windows default or an older certified driver and that is part or all of the

    issue.

    Now go to System Maker's site and get latest Sound/Audio drivers - Download - SAVE - go to

    where you put them - Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN - Reboot

    Check the Version on Driver's tab in Device Manager as often sound drivers rollback
    and then finally install the current version. Reboot and check after each try, not

    unusual to have to run the driver 1-4 times or so. Just make sure the version you

    installed shows up in the driver's tab.

    Then go to Device Maker's site and look for even newer drivers and repeat install

    procedure. Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click on - RUN AS
    ADMIN - Reboot

    Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

    Right click Speaker near Clock -Recording Devices - right click in box - check Show
    Disconnected Devices and Show Disabled Devices - check your mic - highlight them
    and then on lower right properties. Make sure the proper one is enabled and check

    other settings - on Levels tab make sure MUTE is unchecked and APPLY / OK changes.

    Also in Control Panel look for some Audio Manager (maybe named after sound driver maker). Mine
    is RealTek Audio Manager, yours can be entirely different name if you have one.

    My laptop model name is HP Pavilion dv4-1100ea which is shipped with Vista Home premium 32 bits and has got service pack 1.

    Restored the laptop to factory setting since then I am having the following problems; I had the same problem when my laptop was brand new and whenever I reset the laptop to factory setting I get the following problems:

    1. External and internal mikes are not automatically switching over either in middle of the recording using sound recorder or while the call in progress on voice calls (skype):

    Using the sound recorder if I start recording the sound with external mike and in-between recording if I switchover from external mike to inbuilt mike and later on when I play back I can only hear the sound up till where I used the external mike during recording, after the switchover to inbuilt mike I cant hear any sound.

    But if I start the recording with inbuilt mike and in between recording if I plug in the external mike and later on when I play back I can only hear the sound up till where I used the inbuilt mike during recording , after the switchover to external mike I cant hear any sound.

    So in brief both my external and internal mikes are working fine, only problem is that if I start recording (using sound recorder) or voice call with one specific mike, I have to continue with it till the end. I can’t switchover to another mike in between the conversation (voice call) or recording, if I do so, I have to select the mike manually in chat software but while recording I cant even select manually because in laptop, it takes the mike whichever is in current use as default mike in recording tab(sound window). The green tick automatically (in recording device tab) switches over according to the use of mike. Though the green tick in the recording tab is switching over automatically according to use of mikes, its not picking up the sound after switch over during recording.

    2. And also when I click on recording device tab in sound window and plug in external mike, though the green tick automatically switchovers from internal to external mike, while I speak both internal and external mikes volume meter respond to the sound inputs by rising and falling but if I take out external mike, green tick goes to internal mike and when I speak only internal mike volume meter respond to sound rising up and down not the external mike.

    To resolve the issue I have tried following steps with no luck:

    1.I have checked the mikes(internal and external) properties, the both mike shows to be enabled in general tab, in level tab the volume is set to 100 and in advanced tab , all options are selected.

    2. In device manager I have got only one audio driver named as “IDT High definition Audio CODEC”. I have uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled it using scan for hardware option

    3. Uninstalled the audio driver in device manager and reinstalled the audio driver using recovery manager advanced option hardware driver re-installation.

    3. I have updated the BIOS(Insyde F.65, 12/02/2010).

    4. I tried to update the audio driver using below link but things went more worse so I did system restore (not factory setting though).

    I have MEDION akoya WIM2180 Laptop .. I had Windows Vista installed .. But i removed it and installed Windows 7 .. Bot The audio recording device stopped working after the installing of windows 7.. i found some suitable drivers from Driver Magician. and

    According to this forum: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2175165/all, it seems that Siri is expecting a 7-8 digit phone numbers excluding the country code and area code, so adding an extra "0" digit or two at the back of the phone number may be able to fix your problem. The phone number should still connect correctly. Try that, it works for me in Indonesia where some phone numbers are still 6 digits.Hindra

    We're trying to do a bulk update to lines to enable call recording via the BAT tool. When we select the three options, Automatic Call Recording, Call Recording Profile and CSS for the monitor, the BAT fails with the error: Recording is not supported on the device where this line appears.

    We've tried limiting the search down to a few phones which are the same model but the same result.

    Any ideas?

    When I attempt to start a call, Skype immediately fails and gives a "Problem with recording device" error. If someone calls me, they report that the sound is garbled. I uninstalled my camera and re-installed, now Skype crashes when I go to Tools/Video Options. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype and have the same issues.

    Nothing unusual or wrong jumps out of the diagnostics report, at least not for me.

    Have you tested if your webcam works with Logitech own video software (LWS.exe)?

    Also, a new Skype version was released today (6.2.0.106). Some substantial changes are made in this version in video processing procedure. Although I must admit that this was not a positive experience in my case (no HD video with Logitech c920 webcam), you may try this new installer. LifeCam VX-1000 is not a HD webcam, so it may work for you.

    I’m not sure if this new version is already available from all regular download sites, so you can use this msi-installer:

    We develop a recording server in our company. We have CUCM as the base for our VoIP infrastructure and another server where we will make the recording.

    We have configured Call Recording profile on the CUCM to redirect calls to the recording server. We made some test and collected SIP messages . We try to get information from SIP messages but cant find correct Caller party Number and Called party number.

    Here are two scenarios :

    We need a suggestion how to get that information?

    Which protocol/interface/api to use about that?

    The two INVITE messages for the two separate voice streams contain the same near-end (agent) and far-end (customer) call information. The only difference in the two From headers is the first x- parameter, which indicates whether the call stream is for the near-end voice stream or for the far-end voice stream. x-nearend indicates the near-end voice stream. x-farend indicates the far-end voice stream.

    Based on the two messages you can see that the agent 2920 forks the 2 streams (the agent stream and the customer stream) to the recorder:

Then I tried to complete an "Echo, Sound Test", and then I got a message saying that there is a problem with the recording feature.

    This message indicates that there are problems with your microphone. What settings do you have for Microphone in Tools - Options - Audio settings? Are there more than one option available in the selection box? Do you see any response on the Volume bar when you make any sound?

    I have used skype for yesrs without a problem. Recently I had to get a new modem. Since then whenever Itry to make or take a skype call, the call is broken as soon as I answer (or the other person answers if I'm making a call).

    I can still make and take skype calls on my mobile but not on the PC. I'm using Windows Vista.

    I've checked microphones and headsets; all seems to be in order there. I've uninstalled and reinstalled skype. I have the latest beta version: 5.9.0.123.

    As far as I'm aware it is not showing up as a Windows event.

    Ok, I've been looking through tons of forums about this issue and there is no answer. Everytime I send or receive a call I get the message, 'Problem with recording device'.

    Something I've noticed is, when I go into Audio Settings to test my mic and speakers only one works at a time, either my microphone is detected or my speakers are but never both at the same time. If I have one set to Razer Megalodon and the other to a different device it works, but if I set them both to Razer Megalodon only the first one works.

    When I go on 'Call Quality Information' it says it needs access to the sound card, since the Razer Megalodon has a sound card built in this may be causing the issue.

    So, does anyone actually have a fix to this other than 'make sure your audio settings are set up correct'. I'm not 6, the setting are correct.

    I feel the same---been scouting everywhere-----downloading different versions of skype---trying to update my webcam--even the firmware. No WORKY!! I finally decided since it is the mic part of my webcam that keeping me from getting on, I installed an OLD mic with the orange audio pin into the mic in port of my computer and went to settings to change use to this mic-----LO and BEHOLD, it worked!!! I believe lots of you out there can benefit from this little tid bit!! It may be the mic part of my webcam has failed or is some way incompatible with the new version of skype I downloaded

    Yep, Free is the buzz word by most. Generally with free you get no support and what you get is what you get. If you are savey enough to support a free product yourself, then by all means go for it. Otherwise, free may end up costing you in the long run anyways so its best to go ahead and do it correctly the first time.

    I recently purchased a new headset today, and in the past I also had an issue. Whenever I unplug or plugin the headset(s) skype doesn't pick them up as any sound from the microphone, and when I edit the recording from Windows and call, it stops calls and says "Problem with recording device"

    My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, and it works fine with other push-to-talk programs too.

    The recording device error typically means that Skype is having trouble with the microphone it's found.

    What version of Skype are you running? Click on Help About Skype for the specific version number.

    What type mic/webcam do you have?

    Click on Tools Options Audio settings. What is showing in the Microphone selection box?

    If you click on the down arrow next to the mic selection box, are there any other choices available? If so, select each of those one at at time and for each selection, click on the test button next to the selection box. When you talk, do you see green volume boxes appearing on the bar below the mic selection box?

    You can uninstall current version of Skype from the control Panel and you can install Special Version.http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-sse

    and disable automatic updating of Skype.In Skype, Tools Options Advanced Automatic updates Click on Turn off automatic updates Save Changes.

    I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (since I do music stuff) and I have a condenser microphone connected through one of the XLR ports. When I open up audacity or other recording software, I can make a recording and it works just fine. When I try to call the Echo / Sound Test Device thing on skype, it tells me there's a problem with my recording device. To make it even more confusing, when I go to "Tools Options Audio Settings" I can see the green dB bar moving when I speak into it or something. Any solutions?

    I found out some more information, when I open up the audio settings, I can get the microphone to work, but then the playback device won't work, and if I get the playback device to work, the recording device won't work. Apparently skype doesn't want to use both devices at once through my audio interface. Anybody know how to fix this?

    I understand that you’re unable to hear the sound while you are on video call. I will try to help you with this.
    1) Have you made any changes prior to the issue?
    2) Are you able to hear the sound when you are not on video call?
    3) Which program are you video calling on?
    4) What is the make and model of the Computer and the webcam if external is used?

    Method 1: You may run the Hardware troubleshooter and check.
    Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

    a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.
    b. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.
    c. Now type Hardware Troubleshooter in the search option.
    d. Click on Hardware troubleshooter to run the troubleshooter.

    Method 2: Update the webcam drivers. If issue still persists, try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. If Windows 8 drivers are not available, then you can install the Windows 7 drivers in Compatibility mode.
    Since Windows 8 is a new release there may not be drivers designed for Windows 8. You can download the drivers designed for Windows 7 and install it on the Windows 8 using the compatibility mode. Follow the steps.
    a) Enter the Start screen
    b) Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar (If you have a touchscreen: Touch the right edge of your screen and slide your finger to the center of the screen to show the Charms bar)
    c) Search for Troubleshooting, Click Settings in the right column.
    d) Click Troubleshooting. Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows
    e) Click Next, select Not Listed. Click Next
    f) Click Browse and select the installer that you downloaded using the link above.
    g) Click Next, click Troubleshoot program
    h) Check The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now box
    i) Click Next, select the last known working operating system for this driver (probably Window 7)
    j) Click Next.
    Make sure to update all the drivers to the latest Windows 8 drivers and also run Windows updates regularly.

    Please post back if you are still experiencing the issue. I will be glad to provide you with the additional options available that you can utilize to get the issue resolved.

    HiMy sound card seems to have disappeared although it was installed when purchased in Dec 07. When using Skype I get message "problem with recording device - check audio settings - make sure the correct headphones are selected". When I make a call I hear the ringing tone but cannot hear person I am calling, also they do not hear me even though they answer the call. Can anyone please help?

    Never had a problem before, so deleted old Skype, then downloaded new version but still "Problem with Recording Device" comes up. Each time I answer or make a video call, it disconnects me. 'Help' 'Support' links were too confusing!

    How can I get 'Live Chat' assistance, or at least a telephone number to speak to someone with a pulse?? Need to get my problem resolved how long do I have to wait for a constructive reply to my post?? This is a very frustrating experience will look at other Live Video Messenger programs if unable to fix this problem today.

    Can't make a Skype call to a landline, mobile #, or even Echo Sound Test: the number rings a time or two, then disconnects with the quoted error msg displayed.The problem persists whether I use Explorer or Chrome.     Thanks for the prompt response. Did more diagnostics seems to be a hardware problem w/ the headset mic -- time to get a new one, I think.
