    DB:4.08:Sql Query In Vb Express 2005 8f

Hi I m a good VB 6 user. I used SQL Query in the codes of VB 6 in the recordsource property of the database.
Now Where and how should I write sql query in code window in VB 2005 Express since there is no recordsource property.
An example to query datagrid by using a sql query in button code will be greatly appreciated.
    Example
    When Button_Clicked
something........= select * from mytable where myquery
    End Sub
Hence my datagrid refresh to show my query

    DB:4.08:Sql Query In Vb Express 2005 8f

    Hi,
My code is based on Lesson 9 I mentioned above. Assuming you have the project for Lesson 9, this code will work for a Form with a TextBox, Button and DataGridView.
This is the Button's click event handler.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click    Dim connectionString As String = Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\MyCompany.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True    Dim connection As New SqlClient.SqlConnection(connectionString)    Dim dataAdapter As New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(Me.TextBox1.Text, connection)    Dim dataSet As New DataSet()    dataAdapter.Fill(dataSet)    Me.DataGridView1.DataSource = dataSet.Tables(0)End Sub
As you can see, data access has changed with ADO .NET. It has a learning curve but on the other hand it provides many benefits. The code above is the base line code you can use to get data. To get the full benefit of ADO .NET, you can take a look at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/wzabh8c4(VS.80).aspx.

    DB:3.97:Plz Help Me 9d

You have written a SQL Stored procedure.   In order to call this procedure you are going to need to use ADO.NET

    Some examples
    http://samples.gotdotnet.com/quickstart/howto/doc/adoplus/ADOPlusOverview.aspx

Ultimately you are executing a command who's name is the stored procedure name

You will need to use a SQL command object
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlcommand.executenonquery.aspx

For this you will need a connection string.  You will need to use the specific SQL Server Express ones.
    http://www.connectionstrings.com/?carrier=sqlserver2005

Then you should be able to execute the stored procedure.

yes, you can. However, you will not be able to create/modify the database through the IDE (Use your existing management tools, or use SQLServer Management Studio Express, available as a free download).

I'm trying to confirm but I don't believe it will let you use the visual tools to connect to a sql server on the network. Previous versions of VS.NET wouldn't. However you can still connect with Sqlclient - you just couldn't use the visual tools. I believe it's the same here but let me confirm.

Thank you Wayne for your participation and help.

ReportViewer is included in Standard and up(i.e., all editions except Express.) An add-in is available for Visual Web Developer Express.
VB Express edition does not support Report Designer though you can add ReportViewer control to Toolbox and drag to Form.

Can you use Iexpress to make a installer for my VB 2005 Express applications?

DB:3.54:Iexpress (Hidden Setup Tool In Xp) Use As Setup Installer For Vb 2005 Express Applications? mp

    See post:
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=227099SiteID=1

Also I just posted the source code for my 'toy' installer at:
    http://users.adelphia.net/~gcumbia/MakeMyExe.zip

A lot of the code in involved in making the form look and act interesting.

The meat of the code is where I build a 'SED' file for IExpress and a
batch file to handle renaming files and launching setup.exe.

My little program takes a simple 'publish to CD' VB express program,
configured to download the NET framework from the internet, and makes a
self extracting executable which copies the files and folders of the SIMPLE
program onto the target PC and starts the setup.exe ( which actually
    handles most of the installation.)

For people who have an IPC server that causes the infamous 'XML' problem,
my installer is a poor man's workaround for this.

The main drawback to IExpress is that in some modes and places it will
not handle long file names. This is why my program had to programatically
save all the file names and re-name them by using a 'created on the fly' batch
    script.

What I maen by a simple program is; If you made a program called testprg
and published it as 'CD-Rom installation' and pointed the location to say
    'c:\t4'.
Then in folder c:\t4, you would have:
    setup.exe
    testprg.application
    testprg_1_0_0_1.application
    and one folder named
    testprg_1_0_0_1

In folder testprg_1_0_0_1, you would have:
    testprg.exe.deploy
    testprg.exe.manifest

My program checks that the publish folder has only one subfolder
(as one of it's checks. It then makes sure that all the files in the publish
folder and the one subfolder get packed into the self extracting executable.

So for people with a different folder structure than I described, their program
could not be bundled correctly with my MakeMyExe 'toy' installer.

Absolutely.  Add the Access database as a linked server, then query access using a four-part name:

    SELECT * FROM LinkedServerName.DatabaseName.SchemaName.TableName

To add the linked server, take a look at sp_addlinkedserver and sp_addlinkedsrvlogin on MSDN.

I just got through uninsalling the express verions of SQL2005,VB,C#VWEB and .NET in preparation of a clean install of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.

I installed the developer edition of SQL Server 2005 and let it install it's own verions of .NET BI, etc. Now I see that in the install instructions for VB C# Express requires that all verions of SQL server and .NET need to be uninstalled.

Before installing, you must uninstall any previous Beta, CTP or Tech Preview versions of SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and the .NET Framework 2.0.

I have tried, repeatedly, to remove SQL 2005 from my system as I no longer use VB.NET 2005, but rather 2008 (both VB and C#). However, now I've really gummed things up as I can't even add a .mdf file because apparently I don't have a valid SQL Server on my system.

OK Now I'm getting the following message when I am in the SQL Server Installation Center and I click on the first selection in the

I've tried to search the forums for instances of Error Code: 1605 and just 1605 but can't seem to find anything in reference to this.
I have tried to follow all of the links I've been given to remove all instances of 2005 on my system, even taken the chance (for me seeing I'm not a certified tech in this are) of searching the registry for any instances of SQL Server 2005 -- in fact, anthing
I could find referencing SQL Server. I've re-booted several times so hopefully I haven't blown the registry, but it has taken quite a long period of time to do this as I am not a registry expert, and I have taken several restore points, although I have
no idea on how to do a restore.
I thank you for your patience in this -- I never should have tried to upgrade to 2008 as it seems that's when my problems with
SQL Server began -- before that I could add .mdf files to my measly projects in both
VB and C# -- my wife even thinks it's funny with me sitting at this computer for hours speaking to it and cajoling it to be kind to me LOL.

I had the same problems since the last 5 days. Some Versions of the Trail are fail.
Now I had by an origin Version of VS 2008 and now it works without problems.

    Do the following Steps:

    1. Advantage: No one unintall older versions before you run the setup
1.1 But please uninstall all newer Version of SQL-Server
    2. Before you install SQL Server 2005, you have to aktivate all IIS components on your Computer
    3. Then run the setup
    4. If there is a Massage like ... not compatible...  it does not matter. You can run the setup anyway.
4.1. In the Setup you have to check all massages. If there are no errormassages then you can run the setup
    5. Important: After the Setup, you have to install the SP2 (Internet) from SQL-Server 2005
    6. Intstall also the Update from your Windows Version
    7. Have fun with SQL 2005 and VS 2008

DB:3.37:Editing Tables On Remote Sql Server From Vb Express ka

    Hi all

I have a question about sql server express and vb 2005 express.
I installed sql server express on a remote server and started a new project in vb express.
I managed to write the code for connecting to the sql server, I ran the test command for checking if the connection is ok and it is.
I even can connect to the server with the sql tool (SQL Server Management Studio Express) and I can see all the tables.
    Now for my question-
how can I: add row, add data to cell, delete row, delete cell, read cell and so on, from tables and cells?
    How to write the code?

I am coming from the VB 6.0 software version to VB 2005.  I am have major difficulties calling a MS Access DB query that performs a count. and then populating this value into a VB textbox.  Does anyone know if I need to put in code to perform this option since I no longer have access to the old school data control?  I have tried using the VB 2005 DB hookups with zero success.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Prudog,
There is a reference about querying and updating Access database tables.

       Hope it can help you.

I have been trying to get Visual Basic 2005 Express and Visual Web Developer Express to work with SQL Server 2005 Express. I am using Windows Vista.

I am running VB as an administrator. SQL Server SP2 is installed and working, and I can use SSMSEE to connect to it, create databases etc.

But VB and Web Developer cannot connect to it. Can anyone tell me how to get these products working on Vista (or do they in fact simply not work on Vista)?

The solution was to re-install SQL Server 2005 Express. Everything now works from Visual Studio, but the downside is that I've no idea why it wasn't working before.

DB:3.35:Vb 2005 Express Connectivity Problem With Sql Server 2005 9d

    Hi Qam,

Based on my understanding, the Database Connections node is not shown on the Database Explorer panel within VB 2005 Express. Is this right?

If that is the case, first I would like to clarify this: this issue has nothing to do with the SQL Server 2005 and the network workgroups.

I think this issue is resulted from the faulted installation of the VB 2005 Express.

What I want to suggest you to do is to repair or uninstall/reinstall the VB 2005 Express, ensure no error occurs during the installation.

Download the Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions

By the way, suggest you to download and install the Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition SP1 - VS80sp1-KB926747-X86-INTL.exe on this Microsoft webpage.

I hope that can help you.

Can I install Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition when I have VB 2005 Express Edition (with SQL Express) currently running on my computer? You do not need to uninstall any version if they are the release versions and not any CTP or beta version.
If you already have SQL/MSDN express installed you do not need to include that again.

Looking at the productline information (http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/productinfo/productline/default.aspx) the express editions can use SQL Reporting Services, you might want to try that. Or you could craete your own solution that would produce basic HTML reports.

chint - Yes. The project file format is the same between Visual Studio and the Express Editions. This will allow you to migrate basic projects between the two. However, there are feaures in VS that are not in Express, so there may be differences. For example, you Unit Testing projects will not work correctly in Express, since this functionality is not provided. Thanks, Luke Hoban Visual C# IDE Program Manager

    Hi Feizal,
I'd like to explain my suggestion clearly.
The application whether can be run in server side depends on what the connection string you used in the application.
As you mentioned, the database file is in XP PC. If you want your application can be used in SBS2008, you need edit the connect sting suitable for remote access. In this way, the database
file can be accessed by the code.

Hi Babucherayath, You can add one prerequisite for SQL Express. Then using User Instance with SQL Server Express in this scenario to implement your requirement. Please have a look at the following links: 1. SQL Server Express User Instances (ADO.NET) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (SQL Server Express) supports a new feature, the user instance, which is only available when using the .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server (SqlClient). A user instance is a separate instance of the SQL Server Express Database Engine that is generated by a parent instance. User instances allow users who are not administrators on their local computers to attach and connect to SQL Server Express databases. Each instance runs under the security context of the individual user, on a one-instance-per-user basis. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms254504.aspx 2. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition User Instances This paper describes user instances in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and how you can use them to simplify adding database functionality to your Visual Studio projects. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb264564(SQL.90).aspx

Is it possible to create cross table query via SQL Express 2005 since it's possible to do with MS Access?
    Sample query in MS Access:
TRANSFORM Count([tip]) AS [The Value]SELECT [sifra], [naziv]FROM naseljaGROUP BY [sifra], [naziv]PIVOT [opstina]Is there any soultion how to make same or at least identical SQL query expression which will behive like MS Access ones?
    Thanks!

DB:3.24:Sql Express And Cross Table Query 9a

    hi,
not directly as the TRANSFORM/PIVOT provided by Access, but SQL Server 2005 now provides a PIVOT clause as well, as described in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms140308.aspx, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177410.aspx
but you can even have a look at dynamic transformation of crosstab query at the great old article by SQL Server MVP Itzik Ben Gan at http://www.sqlmag.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=15608 (subscriber only)

Hi! I am absolutely new in SQL! Pls help me answering some questions!I have Microsoft VB Express Edition 2005.So I created my Database1 and my own table Table1 ( by Add Item).1)Now in Show SQL Pane I write my query. When I write it with error - it is deleting (after Execute or Verify). So I must write it again! How can I save my query (error query!) for not writing it again?2) After several tries I succeed to write query without mistake. So I have a result ( Table2). Then I write another query and have Table3. How can I see my Table2 and IT'S QUERY???Is there is a log option that can write all my queries and under every query - the result table in my session?Thank u !PS. Does Microsoft VB Express Edition 2005 contain SQL Server Management Studio?

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express on a laptop for development purposes and would like to import some Access databases that I was using coupled to programs written in VB 6.
If using SQL Server 2000 I could use the management studio to automate the import but I can not find any way to do this in Management Studio Express. Would have thought that this would be the typical migration route - Access to Server Express
Is there some way to automate this procedure?
    Thanks

I have Access 2000 and have not been so lucky.  I've read that you cannot upsize from Access 2000 to SQL Express.
What version of Access did you export from?

I was finally able to import my Access 2000 tables into SQL Express by using some tool called SQL Admin Tool from Simego.com
    http://www.simego.com/Default.aspx

It's $30 bucks but the full-version demo lasts for 30 days and I could import what I needed to in less than a minute.

Code snippets will be available. Use it for Connection string.Go to the coding section, right click select Insert Snippet option. From there you can select Connection string to connect to SQL Express. Just change the authentication properties and use it.

    Sir
I had VB 2008 Express and MS SQL Server 2005 express edition running on my system. I wanted to install Visual basic 2008 SP1 and SQL server 2008. Some body said I have to reinstall VB 2008 and SQL 2005 first. and I did it.

Hearing some wrong advice I manually deleted the folder 'Microsoft SQL Server' from C:\Program Files and deleted all folders of name MS SQL Server from 'Registry' from HKEY\LOCAL MACHINEand HKEY\CURRENTUSER.
ThenI installed VB 2008 SP1 and SQL Server 2008 but cannot start/open SQL server it is showing error Could not find specified path. After installation

I removed SQL 2008 from the system and installed SQL 2005 againbut that also showing the same error.

    Hi,
    I'm using VB 2005 express.
I'm using the TableAdapter to store the Querys.
Can I make a Query in a TableAdapter to search fo rows (specific criteria) and export the results to a new table (phisical one at a mdb file or a new created in memory)?
Basicly, I want to send the results form a query into a table.
    How can I do it?
    Pedro

DB:3.22:Vb 2005 Access Sql Query kc

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for the answer.
But still I'll avoid to use code and prefer to use the querys in the TableAdapters.
Anyway I tried to use the following code in a TableAdapter Query:
SELECT Origem, FonteOrigem, NºCircuito, NomeQuadroINTO     TESTEFROM  CircuitosFonteWHERE (Origem IN                   (SELECT NomeQuadro                    FROM   CircuitosFonte CircuitosFonte_1                    WHERE (NomeQuadro = ?) AND (FonteOrigem = 'S')))
TESTE plans to be the destiny table and CircuitosFonte the source table.
When I press the finish button in the TableAdapter Query configuration Wizard for this query I'll get an error Failed to get Schema for this query
When I try the Execute Query in the Query Builder ...  the table TESTE is created at the mdb file and no error appear. On the second time I Execute the query the error .... table TESTE already exists
Can I assume that no Querys using other statments besides SELECT work in the TableAdapter querys?
My intention is to select a specific number of rows from the source table and insert them into the destiny table, and I want to add rows to this table until all my conditions are obtained (could be several interactions). Is there any possibility to use the query builder so this can be obtained? If not how can I do it by code.
For information the dataset is being use in the form for bound and DGV controls.
    Pedro

I have a VB 2005 Express application using SQL Server Express.  I have SQL Express installed on my server and can access my database on the server from my local machine using SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP.  But when I try to open my connection in my VB application, I get the error:
User does not have permission to perform this action
    My connection string looks like:
    Data Source=server\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=\\server\c on server\IncidentTracking\IncidentDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
Since I can use SSMSE on my client machine to access the database on the server, I'm assuming that the remote connection and user permissions are setup correctly.  I just cannot figure out why VB Express will not correct.
    Any help would be appreciated.

DB:3.21:User Permissions Sql Server Express x3

I suspect there may be an issue with the AttachDatabase portion of it. I never use that function (the databases I deal with are always 'attached'). Perhaps the issue is with the attachment process? Or try setting integrated security to SSPI - I'm not sure if there's a difference between setting it to true or SSPI (I don't even know what that means, just that it orks for me!).
Also, can you leave the database attached, since this is a remote database?

    Hello Everyone

I am a complete newbie to VB 2005 Express. I have extensive experience using Visual Foxpro and reasonable experience with VBA and administering SQL Server databases. I am using VB 2005 Express to prototype an enterprise application for one of my clients.

I am in the process of creating the SQL tables through the VB interface and have a query regarding the format of the column to store the unique id for each record. Should I use an integer or the uniqueidentifier data type? Am I correct in saying that uniqueidentifier will be better for replication compared to integer?

    Many thanks

Pros and Cons for each approach then; just like everything in life!
I am anticipating that laptop users might want the facility in the final application to be able to work offline.
Would the best way to do this be using SQL replication to a local copy of SQL Express running on their laptop? In which case does that make guids the more suitable choice?

Could you please explain what do you mean by Visual Studio is not happy in more detail.Does it thow an error or does not behave as expected.

In order to change the datasource from SQL Express to SQL CE 3.5 you need to remove the DataSet of SQL Express using the Configure DataSet with Wizard and then add SQL CE 3.5 DataSet to the Data Source panel.

    To answer PinkFloyd11's question...
Visual Basic Express has youwork with SSE databases as files rather than as a server like traditional SQL Server. When you point off to the Master.mdf file you get an error because its trying to connect to it even though its already been attached on the server which isn't allowed.
Antoine has written a blog on how to work with SSE in VB Express that helps explain how it works at: http://blogs.msdn.com/smartclientdata/archive/2005/08/26/456886.aspx
    Hope this helps,

    DB:3.19:Database mz

    As shakalama stated
VB Express ID Support for databases other than Access and SQL Express are not supported. As SQL Express is designed to be a local database only and remote connections are not supported out the box for this then Add New Datasource is only going to present you with Microsoft Access File or Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SQL Express).
That said - you can write your code to access any database that is supported - so you could write code to access as SQL Server, Oracle Database, MySQL etc. But you are not going to get the IDE support from the designers and wizards. To get this support for databases other than access/sql express you will need to purchase a copy of VB / Visual Studio.
Numerous articles on this - using tableadapter controls and different connection strings.
A simple web search or forum search will reveal numerous code examples.

That's working but maybe it's not perfect as VB as i developps in VC# ten times more than in VB

Remark : in this new apllication, the user has to choose the database so i've to propose a list of available databases .

I have no problem running a query without parameters with oracle 10g and vb 2005 express and similary no problems with parameter queries with access or sql server.

The simple test query I am using is:

    Select * from dept where deptno=@deptno;

The code in VB is as follows:

    Dim ocon As New OracleConnection(cstring)
Dim sql As String = "insert into dept values (@deptno,'@dname','@loc')"
Dim sqlb As String = "select deptno, dname, loc from dept where deptno=@deptno"
    Dim rfs As Integer
    ocon.Open()
    MsgBox("Database is open")
Dim objcommand As New OracleCommand(sqlb, ocon)
    objcommand.Parameters.Add("deptno", Data.OracleClient.OracleType.Char, 10, tbox1.Text)
    Dim objdataadapter As New OracleDataAdapter(objcommand)
    Dim objdatatable As New Data.DataTable("dept")
    objdataadapter.Fill(objdatatable)

The error it gives is ora-01008 not all variables are bound and points to the dataadapter fill line.

    Any suggestions?

DB:3.18:Passing Input To Query While Using Vb2005 Express/Studio pj

First of all...you are using the Microsoft Provider....yuck !

But anyway, your main problem is your use of "@" to signify bind variables.
In oracle, a bind variable is signified by ":"

    So, your code should read somthing like;

    Dim ocon As New OracleConnection(cstring)
Dim sql As String = "insert into dept values (:deptno,':dname',':loc')"
Dim sqlb As String = "select deptno, dname, loc from dept where deptno=:deptno"
    Dim rfs As Integer
    ocon.Open()
    MsgBox("Database is open")
Dim objcommand As New OracleCommand(sqlb, ocon)
    objcommand.Parameters.Add("deptno", Data.OracleClient.OracleType.Char, 10, tbox1.Text)
    Dim objdataadapter As New OracleDataAdapter(objcommand)
    Dim objdatatable As New Data.DataTable("dept")
    objdataadapter.Fill(objdatatable)

Although, I have not tested it.

    Good luck !

    Paul.

Add a DataGridView control to the form. I d/l'ed VB express and install went flawless.  But it seemed the more I used it the more often it started crashing.  No particular event causes a crash more than another.  Seems all random.  Its to the point now where its really not useable.  So I uninstalled, and borrowed a copy of Visual Studio from a friend.  Same thing. Random crashes all over the place.  Something odd on visual studio though, after I build a sql database and connect it to my program, and have a dataset, if I try to make a query with the query builder, the dataset will disappear.  So, I uninstalled Visual Studio and reinstalled VB express 2005.  Seems at first it appears better, but soon after crash crash crash.
I'm not at that computer right now so I don't have the exact error code.  But I know there is something in there about the msvb7.dll and I can't remember the .exe file right off hand.  What do you guys think?  Am I headed for a format?  I'm running XP SP2 with a P4 2.8 with 1gig memory.
    Any help would be appreciated.

PS  I also downloaded the uninstaller program before I reinstalled the VB express to try to totall remove everything related to VB.  Still nothing!!!!

The QFE was announced at http://www.panopticoncentral.net/archive/2006/08/03/13539.aspx. It would help to know what the error message you were getting was. The most frequent case of IDE crashing I found was when using edit-and-continue in a winform app. Not knowing more about the crashing you are experiencing or your environment, including all add-ins installed), it is hard to do more diagnostics on your situation.

How long in seconds does the query take? If it's very long you may need to increase script timeouts for IIS since it's rs2005 and uses a website, this may bubble back as an error in the ide, not sure on that but it's worth checking. Also, the number of lines isn't as important as the details of the query and how optimized it is ... sorting out the subqueries to not slow down the main flow is a typical problem.

Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is an implementation of Microsoft's Visual Basic, an event driven programming language and associated integrated development environment (IDE) which is built into most Microsoft Office applications. If you will learn vba, you don't need to learn vb.net first. Also note that you can post your question about vba to vba forum. Best regards,Riquel

I have enabled SQL CLR Integration in my SQL Server 2005 Express.  I reasd an article Managed Data Access Inside SQL Server with ADO.NET ans SQLCLR by Pablo Castro in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345135.aspx that shows how to create a SQLCLR project in the regular Visual Studio: Create a new project = Select the database project category = Select the project type called SQL Server Project.  I can not see the above-mentioned items and steps in the VB 2005 Express Edition!!!  Is it possible to create a SQLCLR project in VB 2005 Express?  If it is possible, please tell me how to create it in VB 2005 Express.

    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

DB:3.11:How To Create A Sqlclr Project In Vb 2005 Express? p1

Hi Martin,  Thanks for your valuable response.
I think I restarted the database engine correctly. But I am not sure I got the set-up of remote connection right. So I have  the following 2 questions to ask you:

    1)  In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a dot on Local and remote connections and Using TCP/IP only.  Then I clicked on Apply and OK buttons.  Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Arera Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to Service, not to Remote Connections!!!???  Is it right/normal?  Please comment this matter.

    2) After I restarted the database engine, I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:

    //////////////--Form9.vb---/////////////////
    mports System.Data.SqlClient
    Imports System.Data
    Public Class Form9

    Dim strPath As String = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Left(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath, int1 - 1)
Dim pdbfph As String = strPath northwnd.mdf
Dim cst As String = Data Source=.\sqlexpress; _
    Integrated Security=SSPI; _
    AttachDBFileName= pdbfph
    cnn1.ConnectionString = cst
    End Sub

Store application data in isolated storage.
When deploying an Office solution, check to make sure you have fulfilled all necessary requirments.
Use a certificate to obtain the required permission(s).
If an assembly implementing the custom security references other assemblies, add the referenced assemblies to the full trust assembly list.
Get general help for the exception.

    DB:3.11:Problem With Sql Server 2005 Installation 8k

Hi Friendsrecently I have installed Visual Studio Express Edition 2008 and Sql Server 2005. After sucessfully installing application I did not get Query Analyzer Menu and Enterprise  Menu for SQL Server 2005. How can I open Enterprise Manager or Query analyzer? Thanks in advance

    DB:3.11:Problem With Sql Server 2005 Installation 8k

Query Window is the new name in SQL2k5.

    BOL reference:
SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), new in Microsoft SQL Server 2005, is an integrated environment for accessing, configuring, managing, administering, and developing all components of SQL Server. SSMS combines the features of Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, and Analysis Manager, included in previous releases of SQL Server, into a single environment

DB:3.11:Install Error Trying To Upgrade Sql Server 2005 To 2008 9c

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server 2005 Express to 2008 Express.  Something along the way went wrong.  I cannot uninstall 2005 because it is half uninstalled.  2008 will not install because it keeps giving an error saying it's not compatible with 2008.  How can I get rid of 2005?  I even tried reinstalling 2005 in hopes that I could then uninstall but it won't install either.   I have C#, C++, and VB 2008 express installed.  Please help.

DB:3.11:Install Error Trying To Upgrade Sql Server 2005 To 2008 9c

Hi,As Lekss mentioned, you could remove SQL Server 2005 by using Windows Cleanup Utility. Additionally, if you have installed Visual Studio 2008, you also need to apply Visual Studio 2008 SP1 before installing SQL Server 2008. For more information, please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956139.

DB:3.11:Visual Web Vb Express Installation Conundrum az

I downloaded and installed VB 2005 Express first, liked it very much, then decided to do the same with Visual Web Designer. The VWD install had me strip out everything that was installed with VB Express which I did with the Uninstall Tool. Now when I try and download VB 2005 again it wants me to uninstall SQL Server and the NET 2.0 Framework that VWD put in. What is the correct procedure to download and install both of these and retain the server and framework that they both will be happy with?

DB:3.11:Visual Web Vb Express Installation Conundrum az

I had the exact problem I was afraid of. I started another thread on this. The solution you suggested about making sure they came from the same place didn't help my situation. Now I'm stuck with I can have either VWD or VB Express, but not both, because they refuse to install with the other already installed.Any ideas?

    DB:3.10:Vb 2005 And Sql Server 2008 Express 7f

I finally have SQL Server 2008 Express CTP up and running.

Should it be possible for a VB 2005 Application to connect to SQL Server 2008 Express?

Or does the VB 2005 Application have to be upgraded to VB 2008 (including service pack)?

    Thanx,

    Hi Mike,

I'm using an in-line connection string. I will investigate further - I was making sure that I wasn't setting off on a wild goose chase.

I use a SMO reference in another application - I'll deal with that when I come to it.

    Thanx,

DB:3.10:Install Sql Server 2005 Express Again? jc

I posted this on the Visual Basic Express Edition forum but haven't gotten a reply inspite of 129 viewings. I'm hoping for better luck here. Here it is: When I installed VB 2005 Express, the installation process also downloaded and installed:1) .NET Framework 2.02) MSDN 2005 Express3) SQL Server 2005 ExpressHowever, it seems to me that it has installed a very limited version of SQL Server 2005 Express! All that the installation did was to put just the configuration shortcuts for SQL Server 2005 Express in my Start Menu.I have also separatelydownloaded SQL Server 2005 Express. Should I install it over what is already installed? Do I need to do anything in addition to simply installing it?TIA

DB:3.10:Install Sql Server 2005 Express Again? jc

Jeff,I meant even more limited than the limited SQL Server 2005 Express!I am wondering what I would have gotten if I had installed SQL Server 2005 Express by itself first. Would I have gotten just the Configuration shortcuts for it in the Start Menu? If yes, what possibleuse would that have been? As it happens, I asked this question during a Microsoft webcast I attended yesterday and got just about the same answer. Essentially, I did not need to install SQL Server 2005 Express again because I could work throughVB XE (Visual Basic Express Edition). But that still left me wondering.Oh well, I can always try installing SQL Server 2005 Express again anyway and see what happens. Thanks for the SSMSE CTP link.

The VB express installation installs everything you need to start programming!  You should not have to reinstall SQL express!

Shall i use sql server 2000 with vb express 2005 edition

    DB:3.10:Shall I Use Sql Server 2000? 9x

    Shall or Can?
You can use SQL2000 with VB Express, along with a host of other databases. If you are starting something from scratch, then as Lars (above) states, SQL Server 2005 Express would be a good place to start. It'll up-scale to SQL Server 2005 if you need it to.
