    Hi,

I recently bought 2 GTX 460s to SLI with my X58 Platinum. I have been having lock ups while gaming that sometimes include white blocks all over the screen. EVGA tech support has told me to ensure my ram timings and voltages are set correctly for the RAM I use to ensure stability. The memory model I use is OCZ3G1333LV6GK. I changed the timings to 9-9-9-20, but I was unable to change the voltage from 1.5 to the recommended 1.65. The option was greyed out and the BIOS stated that changing the voltage to 1.65 could potentially damage the cpu.

Can I/Should I find a way to force the voltage up? Is this the incorrect RAM/Mobo Combination? What do you all think?

    Hello, relevant system info...

    MSI x58 Platinum SLI
    EVGA Geforce GTX 295
    MSI GeForce 9400 GT

This is a brand new system. When I install 1 video card, I get video. When I install the 2nd one, I get nothing out of any DVI port on either card. I installed Vista Ultimate with just one card installed. I havent done any updates to Windows, nor installed any updated drivers. I figured I should still be able to get video during POST regardless of what Windows is about to do.

I do NOT want to run the 2 cards in an SLI configuration. Im simply trying to build a system that can support 3 monitors. It may be important to note that the GTX 295 has 2 GPUs running SLI on a single card.

Should I be tinkering with something in the BIOS? What am I doing wrong?

DB:2.91:No Video When I Add A Second Video Card za

Also possibly related is that I didnt have 3 monitors setup in the test area (a/k/a, the dining room). I figure there might have been some sensing going on that I needed to handle. Its possible that I just had the test monitor hooked up to the wrong card when I initially had 2 cards in there. I dunno. Theres too much other stuff to do to get the basement home office finished to bother with troubleshooting.

Right. He's just asking where to connect the second EPS cable if needed. As you can see from the sticky, blue's on the same line as the hardwired one. Don't want varying voltages going to the same device. In otherwords, line 1 and line 2 can waver slightly from each other (I think).

See what qpi it sets with xmp first. You don't want to go above 1.35 but your best bet is to going into manual mode and to experiment to find the lowest voltage that is stable.

Before I get to my upgraded machine I would like to mess around with this older gaming rig. My problem would be that I probably have a bad ram layout. 3 1 gig sticks and 1 4 gig stick all at ddr3 obviously and 1333

What I know so far based off of other x58 specs people run, but couldnt find any MSI posts so my layout on the bios is worded different from others and im missing options unlike what i see on gigabytes and evga , asus, etc.

My new install X58 Pro system powers up OK, all fans running, DVD and HDs spinning up but I get no video output and the machine powers back to standby after about 2-3 minutes.

    A couple of noob questions:

    - For a single video card which PCI-Express should I use (Im using PCI_E2 - i.e. top X16 one)?

    - Is there a list of any POST codes (beeps etc.) and/or can an Post LED be added (like on the X58 Eclipse)?

I have tried reseating the RAM (using the black slots), tried with just one stick in A0 and disconnected all but CPU, Keyboard and fans. Same problem each time - 2-3 minutes of activity without video and then auto-shuts down to standby mode (yellow power light).

All power connectors on board are being used (8 pin and 24 pin).

Would the Corsair VX 550W Power Supply be able to support this? also i might get another 9600GT SSC in a year or so to run sli, can the 550W PSU handle that?

So on the desktop side I have always been a huge EVGA fanboy, like my friends say if I were to get cut I would bleed Nvidia and EVGA logos. But everything they have made motherboard wise since the X58 generation has been less than impressive. At the beginning of this year I decided to drop two grand and get a gaming laptop, my GT70 OND laptop. I love this thing. I cant find anything to complain about.

Which brings me to my big question. for someone that overclocks there desktop like crazy does MSI have anything in there motherboards that would be enthusiast level? Like I have a x79 system in pieces right now and have a 3930k laying around. I also have an EVGA x79 classified brand new in box from RMA when my x58 died. After getting this board I started reading the horror stories of this motherboard like USB intermittently stops working, random BSODs, PCIe 2.0 only, etc.

I understand how EVGA does there models, there is the standard model, the medium grade model and the enthusiast model. (typically, reference, FTW, Classified) How does MSI arrange there boards? Which one is there enthusiast grade board?

I plan to overclock to 5+GHz once I get my desktop back up and running but I am really hesitant in putting in that x79 Classified in.

Evga is also about to come out with a new x79 board called Dark. It is suppose to fix everything they had problems with on the x79 Classified. Im just worried that its gong to have problems too as its been pushed back in development and was supposed to release back at the beginning of April.

Let me know what you all think I should do, should I jump to MSI all the way, Wait for the Dark x79 or just try using what I have?

    Thanks for reading.

But after looking at the compatible motherboards with the TR3X6G1600C8D on this site, i found that the E760 was unlisted. The closest motherboard to the E760 that is listed is the EVGA E769, which is very similar, but liquid cooled. Ive read about some compatibility issues in the past with EVGA boards and corsair memory and want to bee sure the RAM works well for my new rig. Is the TR3X6G1600C8D compatible? Sorry for the delay, the circuitry within the PSU is the only place where the noise could be coming from if the system is off. Under light loading conditions on the PSU, the +5Vsb switching frequency may become audible to the human ear. It would not cause any problems functionally with the unit, and would not indicate any issues with the PSU, but if it is loud enough to be bothersome then we can try replacing it for you.

    Hi everyone,

My parts are almost all here and in the meantimehave been reading up on how to get my SSD set-up correctly and have a few questions I am hoping the community can help me with.

    Build specs:

    EVGA Classified 3 MB

    I7 950

    Corsair Dominators (3x 2 gigs)

    Corsair HX1000 PS

EVGA GTX 280 (reused until I upgrade to 580)

CS300 256 SSD (boot and programs)

    Windows 7 Professional

Rapter 150 gig (reused for music storage and photos)

Should I go ahead and update the firmware to the 006 version while I still have my old system up and running? If so, would the steps be any different then what is outlined by Crucial?

Once the system is put together and POST's, I should go into the BIOS and change the driver to AHCI before installing windows correct?

I am not planning on installing the Marvell drivers as they do not seem to be highly regarded and will use the default msachi or Intel drivers (on the Intel ports since the Marvell ports/controller dousn't support TRIM) - do I need to install the Intel drivers after the OS?

Do I need to worry about aligning/partitioning the drive or can I just let Windows do its thing?

This new build will be mostly for gamming. Any other tips/advice for getting my SSD going correctly would be greatly appreciated.

Should the water pump and fan be enough load on the PSU to call for a fan spin up on the PSU? Or is it only spun up when needed? I fear I may have a dead fan or fan circuitry on my PSU. Any clarification or help is appreciated.

DB:2.61:Hx1000 Power But No Fan 1s

No that would suggest a problem with the fan it should spin when ever the PSU is on please use the link on the left and request an RMA and we can replace it.

    Hi everyone.

I am torn between these two motherboards.

    EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

    EVGA E758-A1

    or

ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    ASUS P6X58D

I currently have a EVGA GTX 280 video card and in the future I want to do a SLI with another gtx 280.

I am just torn because these motherboards are so similar with minor differences in overclocking abilities and the PCI 2.0 Express slot areas. I am going with 12 gig ram corsair dominator
    Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model

In the end, I do not know which one would be best for a dual SLI gtx 280 and for someone new to building a high end system

    Any help appreciated.

I have a compound curve (quarter of an elipse) with a horizontal and vertical line tangent to each appropriate point. One end of the curve constrained to the origin. Now I want to move the other end around till I get the right shape. But the trick I cant get is making the curve stay the same length (2400mm) no matter the shape of the curve. Is there a way to do this?

I have ran memTest on all 3 modules and get zero errors. Any suggestions? Only other thing I could think it would be is my PSU (HX1000). The mobo is back from RMA from EVGA and I went through the tech support over there last night.

    DB:2.56:Tr36g16007d Question k1

You will need to set the command Rate to 2T and Increase the memory Voltage to what is printed on the label of the modules The the Max memory frequency will be based on the CPU and its FSB settings and how many modules are installed. If only two modules and you have an 1333 FB CPU I would try it at DDR1333 and work your way up from there to a MAX of DDR1600.

the 1050 is a single rail psu the 1000 is a 2 rail system, there will be differences to the impedance of the cables which can cause all kinds of things ot go wrong (like hot spots in the cables which cna melt connectors) theres also the problem that the way the psu modular connectors are wired (fed) can be different even though the outputs will remain the same,
