    DB:3.16:Try Block Without A Catch Block 8z

    Hai!
    I heared that java developers to make the java a familiear one used the syntax like c++. But i am surprised after seeing that

    in java a try block is allowed with out a catch block if it has a finally block

    1) i can't imagine such a situation. What is the use in doing so
    2) Why java developers sacrificed the familierity in this issue.

    clarify me.
    Bye

    DB:3.16:Try Block Without A Catch Block 8z

    I don't know, I've also found it a little confusing
    that the try/catch statement could have a "finally"
    inside it. (something that seems a little unrelated
    to try/catch, to me.)

    I guess it saves a set of brackets, and i can't
    really come up with anything better right at this
    moment, but still.What do you mean? Try/catch/finally breaks the code up into three sections, each with its own role: Do the work, Handle Errors, Cleanup.

    filebuffer[frameindex[frame]+channel] = block;
    What the mean of

    Why the block put beside for (value==0x00)?

    DB:3.03:Question In Java Syntax 3c

    You would understand
    if (value == 0x00)
    block=(byte)(block + 0x1);correct?

    Remember that java doesn't worry about white space?

    So
    if (value == 0x00)
    block=(byte)(block + 0x1);and
    if (value == 0x00) block=(byte)(block + 0x1);are equivalant

    If you upload a file I do not see why you should scan it with a special tool.
    Just scan the file before you upload it with your regular antivirus.
    And if you download it you can just scan it when you received the file and before you launch it or open it.
    If not what protocol do you use to transfer ?
    There are plenty of ftp/http scanners that scan on the fly.

    I am a bit confused on how exactly an entire row is accessed after the rowid's are obtained from the index after an index range scan?

    Option 1: All rowid's are cached and the rows from the tables are fetched in 1 single step using a sort of an IN list.

    Option 2: For each rowid identified during an index range scan the row is returned and then the index scanning proceeds to the next leaf block or next row in the same leaf block.

    Gerenally speaking you might as well go for the default size offered by the installer for your platform (and that tends to be 8KB, but isn't always).

    In a few special cases you may be able to get some benefit from a variation for a few objects - but if you thnk of the tpcC tests, hardware vendors spend hundreds of thousands trying to tweak things to get any tiny advantage, and when it comes to varying block sizes they all do different things (and they've only got about 7 different queries to worry about !).

    On a specific down-side to the larger block sizes (i.e. 16KB and 32KB) there have been (and possibly still are) a few very odd bugs - performance related, and corruption related - that have survivied for years undetected because so few proper production systems have used them.

    Hi

    I have SCXI 1130 switch and NI 4070 DMM . I have connected 3 voltagechannels on the SCXI .
    When I read just one channel at one time, I get correct voltage reading. here I gave scan input as ch0-com0.
    Later , iplaced a For loop in the block diagram and programmatically wired the scan channel input,
    for the switch and read the voltage output from the DMM, i do not get the correct outputs.
    That is , for my 3 channels, i gave For loop iteration count as 3 and ,'i ' is taken and appended for ch i -com0. the DMM measurement is not proper. But if I highlight execution in the block diagram ( if i put the bulb and the probe), i can see the correct output voltages coming out. The moment, i turn off the execute high light, the program gives incorrect output. So do I have to give a scan dealy or what time has to be set to get correct values. I am using software trigger in the bloack diagram.

    DB:2.80:How To Set Scan Rate With Ni Switch Scan Voltages 88

    Hi Hema,

    CJC is an acronym for Cold-Junction Compensation, and this value adjusts for the change in voltage caused by the thermocouple wireto copper wire junction.

    For example, a J-type thermocouple will have thermocouple wire consisting of iron and constantan metals. When these iron and constantan metals meet the copper at the switch connection, a difference in voltage results. This difference in voltage is the "cold-junction". The difference in voltage resulting from the iron and constantan connection in the thermocouple is the "hot-junction". When you measure temperature using a thermocouple, what you desire is the "hot-junction" change in voltage. Unfortunately, the DMM is going to measure the sum ofboth the "cold" and "hot" junctions, and a CJC measurement is needed so we can adjust the measurement to remove the undesired offset.

    Once Cold-Junction Compensation is performed, converting from voltage to temperature is fairly simple. Each thermocouple type has its own temperature to voltage conversion equation andassociated coefficients. Here's a great resource for the equations, coefficients, and specific voltage to temperature tables:

    Java and ActiveX are the only ones you can filter within the PIX. They're certainly the most dangerous from a hacker's point of view. ActiveX filtering merely comments out everything between the tags, which can also include a Java applet btw.

    Hello and Thanks in advance!!

    I'm still a little new to Powershell but I'm not sure if I'm making this harder than it really is...
    What i'm trying to do is to take a Log file and sort it with specific instructions. There's a piece that I can't seem to figure out. Please help if possible.
    What I'm trying to do is Weed out some of that data such as a block that looks similar to this:
    (** When I say Block of data, I mean all of this info starting from Table: and ending with Extent Scan Frag **)

    Table: 'ExchangeServerEntry' (75955175); index ID: 4, database ID: 5

    - Extent Switches..............................: 0
    - Logical Scan Fragmentation ..................: 0.00%
    - Extent Scan Fragmentation ...................: 0.00%

    That's the easy part. Where it got tricky for me is that I need the script to look at the number of Pages Scanned and only display that block of data if Pages Scanned is 1000 or greater.
    To elaborate further; If Pages Scanned is less than 1000 then do not show that block of data.
    So far after changing the script numerous times I ended up with these;

    $var = Get-Content FileLocation.txt |
    Select-String Table:,Pages Scanned,Extents Scanned,Extent Switches,Logical Scan Fragmentation,Extent Scan Fragmentation

    $var

    AND

    $log = FileLocation.txt

    $col=Get-Content $log

    foreach($i in $col)
    {
    if($i -match 'Table:'){Add-Content C:\scripts\out.txt $i}
    elseif($i -match - Pages Scanned){Add-Content C:\scripts\out.txt $i}
    elseif($i -match - Extents Scanned){Add-Content C:\scripts\out.txt $i}

    There are multiple ways. Forms has the ability to call out using DDE or OLE, call user exits (DLLs), or call out to Java, if you are running on the web. They are all documented in the online help and in the documentation.

    Hello Experts,

    i am working on procedures on exadata now. i was confused with cell offload in exadata. somehow offload is not happening when i ran the sql statement in in pl/sql block with variables.
    here are my findings.

    when i ran insert into from select with values at toad, my query response time is very good. the total process is completed in less than a minute.
    i checked offload is happening.

    same sql statement is placed in plsql block with variable, procedure is taking lot of time and it is not completing. this case offload is not happening.

    is it true, if i use variables in pl/sql block will not use cell offload and smart scan?
    if yes, what is the work around.

    Thanks

    #! Pavan

    DB:2.73:Cell Offload Will Happen For Pl/Sql Block With Variables sf

    Hi Pavan,

    I was assuming that, if you determined you were getting offload happening when you ran the query in TOAD, that it would be using an offloadable plan (ie full scan of some type). Regardless, it should be pretty easy to determine: look at the explain plan, and see if it's doing full scans. If not, you're entirely right: the query will not be offloaded.

    The reason I set serialdirect_read is to force the database to do direct path reads (even without parallel query and with relatively small tables), which in turn can be offloaded by the storage servers. If you see changes in your PL/SQL execution (and not your TOAD direct execution), this could point to environment differences: parallel query settings perhaps?

    DB:2.73:When Full Table Scan Is Good And When It Is Bad 78

    Hi,

    How we can come to conclusion that FULL Table scan for a particular set of records (in hundreds) is a not a problem as it is faster in this case as Oracle uses a multiple block read and when we need to consider FULL Table scan for a particular set of records is a problem as we need to for a INDEX Table scan? How we can decide on this and on what basis?

    When FULL Table scan is good and when it is bad? Please clarify.

    Thanks.

    DB:2.73:When Full Table Scan Is Good And When It Is Bad 78

    normally we will look into the explain plan and if the plan shows for FULL TABLE SCAN we try to update the query accordingly to go for an index table scan.The fact that a plan contains a full tablescan is not sufficient to try to force a different plan.

    which is taking lot of time to display the resultsNow, this is new information that is very relevant.

    If your query is taking too long then you should be trying to tune it. This may involve analyzing the plan and trying to determine if the CBO's decisions (such as a tablescan) were appropriate. But don't start with the goal of 'eliminating tablescans from my plans'.

    It sounds like the printer may be having a problem mechanically with the scanner system. If you place a printed page on the flatbed glass and instruct the printer to make a copy, does the printout match the original or does the problem being described follow?

    Have you tried performing a power drain on this Deskjet 3050a?

    Unplug the printer while on

    Unplug the other end of the power cord from the power source

    Separate the power cord and power module in the middle of the cord length

    Wait 60 seconds

    Plug cord back together and plug printer into direct wall outlet for power

    Does the issue continue after a power drain?

    May,If you define 1000 scans/s, the scan rate will be 1000 Hz. With regards to the timebase, it is divided-down to produce the scan clock. Thus, if you are using the 20 MHz internal timebase, it must be divided-down by 20000 in order to produce a 1000 Hz scan clock.Good luck with your application.Spencer S.

    Edited by: porpoisepower on Jan 23, 2010 6:49 AM

    DB:2.71:Code Block Readability Question 8m

    But I would pick one of the two common styles:

    // this
    if (iValue == 5) {
    SingleStatement();
    }

    // or this
    if (iValue == 5)
    {
    SingleStatement();
    }

    // but not this, which is what you had
    if (iValue == 5) {
    SingleStatement();
    }Personally I prefer the first one, but it really is a subjective choice, so pick the one you like the best, or that your team agrees on, and stick with it.

    I need to be able to resize a block of memory. Is
    there a function in java simmilar to realloc in C ?Java memory management is completely different from C...
    no untyped memory allocation is possible, so there's nothing
    quite like malloc or realloc.

    The closest thing there is, is to use byte arrays... and when
    you need to 'resize' such an array, to allocate a new (bigger)
    byte array, and then copy contents from existing one, usually using
    System.arraycopy(). So, something like:

    static byte[] realloc(byte[] orig, int newSize)
    {
    if (newSize = orig.length) {
    return orig;
    }
    byte [] newArray = new byte[newSize];

    System.arraycopy(orig, 0, newArray, 0, orig.length);
    return newArray;
    }

    Is it possible to fix send/recv buffer size on java client end? If so, how? as in ... no matter what or how long the data is to be sent I want to send as block(s) of 1024 bytes.

    unfortunately the server does just that

    no matter how big the data is to be sent/receive, say "hi", it needs to be sent in a block of 1024-byte size.

    in C, I would have, say, sendmsg[1024] variable for sending data, memset it to 0, memcpy the data and send the whole block off.

    My concern is really just sending the data from java client ... just don't know how to limit the block size to be sent each time ... any idea?

    I find no difitions in the internet

    Finchen

    DB:2.69:Index Seek, Index Scan, Table Scan kd

    Sometimes there is a need to get the record count of every table in a SQL Server database. The common method used for achieving this is doing a select count(*) from table_name but this can create a lot of overhead in large tables present in large databases.

    The record count of every user table is maintained in the sysindexes system table . There is a indid column in the sysindexes table and every user table will have an entry in sysindexes with indid value of either 0 or 1 , but not both. The rowcnt column corresponding to indid 0 or 1 gives us the total row count of a table.

    I was wondering what way does java handle the try catch block exception with regard to throwing exceptions in catch blocks

    If I have an ejb method which throws a remoteException
    and I have a try block constructed like

    try
    {

    }
    catch( Exception e)
    {
    throw new RemoteException("Error Occured");
    }
    finally
    {
    // Do something
    }

    If the code actually goes into the catch statement another exception is thrown. Will we ever get to the finally block when the exception is thrown or is the finally block always executed - no matter what happens

    DB:2.69:Try/Catch/Finally Blocks 77

    Check out the Java Language Specification about try-catch -finally @ http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/statements.doc.html#236653

    You can throw an Exception in a catch block. You can also call other fuctions in a catch block that may throw Exceptions. You can even start a new try-catch block within a catch clause.

    Finally is more complex but the basic idea is that a finally block will always be started. Read the specs if you want to know how it excatly works...

    Block size are not defined at segment level, it has rather defined at database level,
    with the realese of oracle 9i, you can create up to 4 non default block size at tablespece level. the default block size at database level is generally 8kb, however this can be changed depending on the database nature, for example, for database warehouse, you generally create block of larger size then normal.

    You should be careful when blocking the scanning signaturea, these can be easily triggered by simple things like a web browser fetching multiple elements to construct a web page.

    If you want to allow you network scanner to remain unblocked you should look at Event Action Overrides and Event Action Filters:

    DB:2.68:What Is Block Density &Amp; How To Calculate It????? s8

    1)is it possible to calculate manually by user in any way??

    The computed block density(%) that we see in the database properties is computed from a sample of blocks. Manually computing it would be tedious. First, How any blocks are do we have? Then from there you'll get a sample. For each block, compute the density which is the no. of cells with value divided by total number of cells in the specific block. After getting the density for each block in your sample of blocks, get the average of all the computed block density then multiple it by 100. That is the block density for your database.

    2) how it effects like as u said it shows the efficiency
    large value=efficient or less value is efficient???

    Large value of block density indicates that your dense-sparse setting is efficient.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't recommended to have CLASSPATH set at all before you know about packages (it can prevent the sdk tools from seeing your own classes, resulting in compile errors when everything "should" be ok) but if you have other programs using it it seems that you must...

    If you add the line "SET CLASSPATH=.;%CLASSPATH%" to autoexec.bat after all the other "SET CLASSPATH=" commands it should be ok.

    I have some code running that throws an exception on a monitorexit instruction in the generated 'finally' code of a synchronized block. The line reported is the closing brace of a synchronized block. As discussed in bug report 4414755, this causes an infinite loop because the synchronized block cannot guarantee that the synchronized block released the object's monitor.

    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4414101 seems to indicate this is expected behavior.

    My question is this: Are there any Java programming mistakes in which the end of a synchronized block would throw an IllegalMonitorStateException? If not, what could conceivably cause the end of a synchronized block to throw this exception? If it helps, this occurs on an Intel Xeon HT processor (family 15, model 2, stepping 9).

    Thanks for any help,

    DB:2.67:Monitorexit Throws Illegalmonitorstateexception xd

    I've recently found a bug in JDK 6 relating to synchronized blocks while using the HotSpot Server VM. The trigger seemed to be a large number of local variables and the Server VM compiling to native code. It didn't throw an exception, but it was leaving the monitor in a weird state. I have more details about it at http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6330927813/m/947000877831

    It seems that you have it solved. I was going to post this last night, but then my Internet went out. I went through a freezing problem for the last 1-2 months, but it got much worse within the last 3 weeks. From what I learned, I would recommend is updating to the newest firmware first. Then, secure erase with parted magic. Next, let the drive TRIM by leaving your bios screen on if you have a laptop or only connect the power cable if you're on a desktop. Then, finally reinstall Windows, or whatever OS you have, again.

    I did the TRIM first and then secure erase, but it has partially worked for me. My laptop freezes for 5 seconds whenever I load windows again, but then it works after the five seconds. It's much better thanhaving it freeze indefinitely. I'm not an expert so I don't guarantee that it'll work, but it's worth a shot.

    Edit: A day later and the freezing is back. Ironically, I bought the ssd because my hard drive started clicking, but now it has actually survived much, much longer. Due to the lack of response from crucial from the forums or even acknowledgement that there is a problem, this will the last product that I buy from them.

    My problem is-
    i have class with static block only wihtout main method.
    if i run this class - nothing happens
    but if i run this class from eclipse
    static block is executed and exception of main method not found is shown.

    so want to know ,what happens from command prompt.
    i mean directly interpreter is getting called from command prompt.?
    and in eclipse does it call class loader first

    DB:2.66:Virus Prevention, Not Just Detection After The Fact? 8m

    Why doesn't One Care prevent a trojan from installing in the first place? I keep getting one of these Java Byte Verify Trojans from somewhere. Its infecting my system while just surfing web pages, as I haven't installed any strange or questionable software at all, or any new software what so ever for that matter in over 1 1/2 years. It seems every time One Care does its scan though it detects this exploit... Java/Byteverify.B or .G or .F or dot every letter in the alphabet. I have even completely un-installed Sun's Java entirely and this still keeps getting detected during the virus scan.Its nice that it detects and removes it during the scan, the question I have though is why isn't One Care detecting it and warning me when its attempting to install on my system in the first place? As I look through my quarantine log I see this is rather common for One Care to allow things to infect my system, allow them to exist, and then only detect and remove them after a scan.I'd like to know what web site I keep getting this from, the only way I can tell is if One Care alerts me when its trying to install, not after the fact and only after it has done a scan.Why doesn't it just block this from the start?Better still, not a question for here, but why doesn't freaking Sun fix Java so this vulnerability isn't an issue in the first place.

    DB:2.66:Virus Prevention, Not Just Detection After The Fact? 8m

    Let me try the question again, with less details now that we know why I ask what I am...***************************************************************************Question:Why does One Care not detect these things as they are being placed on my system?***************************************************************************

    OneCare and all other antimalware programs perform on a variety of levels.First, if an exploit is attempting to load into memory or execute, it will be scanned by the real time engine and hopefully blocked and removed. Second, if the malware is downloaded to the PC via the browser or attached to an email, it will typically not be stopped or caught by the real time engine/scan. However, when a full scan is performed of all files on the PC, the malware is then detected and action taken.Malware residing on the system in a dormant state is not dangerous unless you execute it.Finally, it is also possible, though not in this case, that malware makes it past the scanner because the scanner is not yet able to detect it. Signatures are updated frequently, allowing the engine to detect more variants and also allowing for removal of more malware variants. It is possible that malware makes it to the system today, but after a signature update, it is caught by the full scan as the signatures are now able to detect that malware.Finally, I'll refer you back to the original reply, which I have marked as an answer. The malware you reported cannot infect your system as you are not running the Microsoft VM. It does not affect a machine using the Sun Java VM. The bits are downloaded to your cache, but are harmless to your machine.-steveMicrosoft MVP Windows Live / Windows Live OneCare Live Mesh Forum Moderator

    DB:2.66:What Is Scan Block In Java 8p

    Hi in the String class there is a method public String toUpperCase(Locale locale)

    It contains a block named "scan:". (Please find the JDK source below)
    What is this scan block? What it does? What is this syntax? how it works?

    public String toUpperCase(Locale locale) {
    int len = count;
    int off = offset;
    char[] val = value;
    int firstLower;

    /* Now check if there are any characters that need changing. */
    scan: {
    char upperCaseChar;
    char c;
    for (firstLower = 0 ; firstLower len ; firstLower++) {
    c = value[off+firstLower];
    upperCaseChar = Character.toUpperCaseEx(c);
    if (upperCaseChar == Character.CHAR_ERROR || c != upperCaseChar) {
    break scan;
    }
    }
    return this;
    }

    char[] result = new char[len]; /* might grow! */
    int resultOffset = 0; /* result grows, so i+resultOffset
    * is the write location in result */

    /* Just copy the first few upperCase characters. */
    System.arraycopy(val, off, result, 0, firstLower);

    if (locale.getLanguage().equals("tr")) {
    // special loop for Turkey
    char[] upperCharArray;
    char upperChar;
    char ch;

    for (int i = firstLower; i len; ++i) {
    ch = val[off+i];
    if (ch == 'i') {
    result[i+resultOffset] = '\u0130'; // dotted cap i
    continue;
    }
    if (ch == '\u0131') { // dotless i
    result[i+resultOffset] = 'I'; // cap I
    continue;
    }
    upperChar = Character.toUpperCaseEx(ch);
    if (upperChar == Character.CHAR_ERROR) {
    upperCharArray = Character.toUpperCaseCharArray(ch);
    /* Grow result. */
    int mapLen = upperCharArray.length;
    char[] result2 = new char[result.length + mapLen - 1];
    System.arraycopy(result, 0, result2, 0,
    i + 1 + resultOffset);
    for (int x=0; xmapLen; ++x) {
    result2[i+resultOffset++] = upperCharArray[x];
    }
    --resultOffset;
    result = result2;
    }
    else {
    result[i+resultOffset] = upperChar;
    }
    }
    } else {
    // normal, fast loop
    char[] upperCharArray;
    char upperChar;
    char ch;
    for (int i = firstLower; i len; ++i) {
    ch = val[off+i];
    upperChar = Character.toUpperCaseEx(ch);
    if (upperChar == Character.CHAR_ERROR) {
    upperCharArray = Character.toUpperCaseCharArray(ch);
    /* Grow result. */
    int mapLen = upperCharArray.length;
    char[] result2 = new char[result.length + mapLen - 1];
    System.arraycopy(result, 0, result2, 0,
    i + 1 + resultOffset);
    for (int x=0; xmapLen; ++x) {
    result2[i+resultOffset++] = upperCharArray[x];
    }
    --resultOffset;
    result = result2;
    }
    else {
    result[i+resultOffset] = upperChar;
    }
    }
    }
    return new String(0, result.length, result);

    DB:2.66:What Is Scan Block In Java 8p

    This is a rare feature of Java.
    Java allows us to use named blocks.
    There is a "goto" reserved word, but it is not available to be used.

    Following code illustrates this block functionality.

    public class TestScan
    {
    public static void main(String []args)
    {
    abcd:
    {
    for (int i = 0; i 10 ; i++)
    {
    System.out.println("i = " + i);
    if (i == 8) {System.out.println("i=8, so I am breaking...!!!");break abcd;}
    }
    }

    }
    }Edited by: vadzzonline on Oct 26, 2007 3:03 PM

    DB:2.66:Spyware That Keeps Coming Back 8p

    I have been getting spyware infections once or twice a wk.  I am able to get rid of them either through Norton, Windows Defender or Spybot but my question is when I run the scan again in a day or two the same Spyware/Adware seems to be back again.  Is there something I should be doing to protect my computer other than what I am doing.  I went into Internet Options, Privacy and then added their names to the Always Block list but that didn't help either.  Some of their names: Java/Byteverify; Altnet; Krepper.  I also keep my Norton up to date through LiveUpdate.

    Looks like a crude block-cypher.

    DB:2.66:Re: What Is This Java-Code Doing? x9

    What the hell are I'm doing Wrong???!!! A lot of things. 1 public class Simple {
    2 private String encrypt(String target, String phrase)
    3 {
    4 for(; target.length() phrase.length(); phrase += phrase);
    5 String s1 = "";
    6 for(int i = 0; i target.length(); i++)
    7 s1 = s1 + "" + (char)(phrase.charAt(i) + target.charAt(i) - i);
    8
    9 return s1;
    10 }
    11
    12 public static void main(String[] args) {
    13 Simple s = new Simple();
    14 System.out.println(s.encrypt("T0NSSTLD", "!#'$"));
    15 }

    DB:2.66:Re: Index Leaf Block Retantion pf

    In your example the first fetch is a single row fetch bundled in a single call from SQL*Plus with the parse and exec; this visits the index leaf block and then the table block for a total of two gets. The second fetch comes from a separate call from SQL*Plus and the single buffer gets is on the index leaf block.You description of what you think happens and what you think should happen in the second question is far from clear. You are trying to understand a very precise process, so you need to write down the steps with great care before you ask the question.If a single index leaf block allows a range scan to identify 10 rows in the table, and those rows are scattered across 10 different table blocks Oracle can pin the leaf block and then travel from the leaf block to the table, to the leaf block to the table, to the leaf block to the table... and so on 10 times - but having pinned the leaf block it will record one get on the leaf block and 10 gets on the table. However, if the SQL*plus arraysize has been set to call for two rows at a time all pins have to be released between calls, so there will be 5 gets on the leaf block and 10 gets on table blocks. Having said that, I will point out that it's a slightly simplified picture to give you the idea of what you have to count. If you tried to construct the experiment you would probably find a little error at the edges (mainly due to how you start the range scan - after all the first (bundled) fetch will only fetch one row and that will disrupt the pattern I've described a tiny bit.RegardsJonathan Lewis

    Can you please tell me how can you understand this? I am trying to figure out by looking the trace file output but I can't Thanks in advance.
