    DB:3.94:Configuring A Virtual Host In Weblogic 8z

    Hi,
I created a virtual host in Weblogic but it doesn't work. I followed all of the steps from the Weblogic website.
The default URL for my application works, http://localhost:7001/abc_application but when I try using the new virtual host I get an error,
http://xyz.com:7001/abc_application. I applied the virtual host to my Weblogic Managed Server and also to a deployed application. What else needs to be done outside of Weblogic for this to work?

    Sorry for the cross-posting.

    Thanks,
    Annette

    Hi,
Once the client opened up this port then the virtual host worked. And actually I just deleted the virtual host from Weblogic and can use the new ip address fine since the client added the new ip address to their virtual host names file.

DB:3.32:Migrate Web Application From Weblogic To Jboss ak

Hi,I am trying to migrate one web application currently running on Weblogic 8.1 application server. The JSP content is separated from WAR and is placed at a specific folder location. Weblogic provides a feature called virtual-directory-mapping using which we can place the JSP content outside the WAR.For example: In weblogic.xml i can define a virtual directory mapping asvirtual-directory-mapping local-pathc:/content/test-app/local-path url-pattern/pages/*/url-pattern url-pattern*.jsp/url-pattern/virtual-directory-mappingThe above definition in weblogic.xml will enable all JSPs under /pages are served from c:/content/test-app/pages folder. All redirects/ forwards will pickup the JSPs from the configured folder.I know this feature is a weblogic specific feature, and in Tomcat (assuming tomcat is the web server for Jboss) I tried achieving the same by configuring ajp13 connector to interface Apache webserver with Tomcat. I could successfully configure JSPs to be served from outside the WAR however if the same JSPs are forwarded by some controller I am getting a 404.The reason for getting 404 is, i configured *.jsp pattern in apache's httpd.conf file to be served by Tomcat, but as these configurations are at apache level whenever i forward to any of these JSPs from controller Tomcat does not know that the JSPs need to be served via Apache so therefore it throws a 404 error. Is there anyway to route the forwards through Apache from tomcat? Thanks in advance.Rammohan

DB:3.32:Migrate Web Application From Weblogic To Jboss ak

This issue is resolved, I was able to implement virtual-directory feature in jboss by customizing jbossweb sources. The solution serves JSPs which will be outside WAR and ofcourse apache will serve the static content like images, javascripts, css etc.

DB:3.18:Weblogic Server As Web Server. kf

    Hi,

I am from WebSphere background and I'm pretty confused on how WebLogic works as a web server. With WebSphere, the web server will communicate with the application servers by using a plugin file. I understand that WebLogic has a similar plugin, but that is if I were to use a third party web server such as Apache or IIS.

From what I read here http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs92/config_wls/web_server.html, all I need to do is to configure a virtual host. Kinda different from what I read http://e-generation.beasys.com/wls/docs81/cluster/setup.html#759939 which uses a HttpClusterServlet, but am using WebLogic 9.2 so probably this is not applicable?

My environment consists of 2 web servers and 2 app servers:

Clients will access the website using a virtual IP, which will be routed to the 2 web servers (we are using a hardware load balancer), and the 2 web servers will route the requests to both of the application servers which is clustered.

    Questions:

    1) So if I have created 4 instance of application servers, 2 of it I will configure it as a web server and the remaining 2 application servers will be clustered. In the virtual host setting, the target servers will be the 2 clustered application servers, no?

    2) 'Virtual Host Names' are the domains that are to be served by this virtual host?

    3) What is 'Network Access Point Name' exactly?

I don't enjoy myself asking these basic questions but I find this whole web server thing is pretty confusing. If anyone could point me to a more in-depth documentation on the concept and how to set up a weblogic server as a web server, that would be awesome. Appreciate any advice offered.

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:3.17:11g Grid Control Installation 3a

We have one physical machine which can host two virtual servers. We want to use one virtual server to be weblogic server, another virtual server to be repository database. This means weblogic and repository database are on the same physical machine but in each own virtual server. The 10g grid control will be installed on the same server as the weblogic server. We do have bunch of application databases on separate virtual servers on different physical machines. Is this layout reasonable for 10g grid control? Please advise. Thanks very much.

    S.

    DB:3.17:11g Grid Control Installation 3a

Yes, this is acceptable. You are basically performing a two-tier setup. One tier will have WebLogic and Grid Control and the other tier will have your Oracle database. From Oracle's perspective, it won't matter if these are VM's or physical servers.

Hello All, I was hoping that someone here could answer a simple question for me.I have no problem configuring a virtual host in JBoss 4.04 and deploying my applicaiton to that vHost. But my question is that I would like to be able to add a vHost configuration without having to restart jboss. I have noticed that there is a createHost() method available via the jboss.web:type=server MBean in th jmx-console ... but Im either not using this method correctly or its just not working or Im possibly looking in the wrong place? Thanks for the help.

I also tried the void addChild() Add a virtual host .. method with the jboss.web:type=Engine mBean which by its limited description seems that it should do what im looking for but when i try to invoke the method with a param value of "testapp1.local.com" it throws the following exception:root causejavax.management.IntrospectionException: Failed to find PropertyEditor for type: org.apache.catalina.Container org.jboss.jmx.adaptor.control.Server.invokeOpByName(Server.java:251) org.jboss.jmx.adaptor.control.Server.invokeOp(Server.java:223) org.jboss.jmx.adaptor.html.HtmlAdaptorServlet.invokeOp(HtmlAdaptorServlet.java:262) org.jboss.jmx.adaptor.html.HtmlAdaptorServlet.processRequest(HtmlAdaptorServlet.java:100) org.jboss.jmx.adaptor.html.HtmlAdaptorServlet.doPost(HtmlAdaptorServlet.java:82) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:717) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:810) org.jboss.web.tomcat.filters.ReplyHeaderFilter.doFilter(ReplyHeaderFilter.java:96)

DB:3.04:Poor Performance With Converged Fabrics cp

    Hi Guys,

I'm having some serious performance issues with Converged Fabrics in my Windows Server 2012 R2 lab. I'm planning on creating a Hyper-V cluster with 3 nodes. I've built the first node, building and installing/configuring OS and Hyper-V pretty straight forward.

My issue is with Converged Fabrics, I'm absolutely getting very slow performance in the sense of managing the OS, Remote Desktop connections taking very long and eventually times out. Server unable to find a writable domain controller due to slow performance.
If I remove the converged fabric everything is awesome, works as expected. Please note that the cluster hasn't even been built yet and experiencing this poor performance.

    Here is my server configuration:

    Dear VMWarer,

I was installing a a new host of VMWARE server. I was configuring the the Networking on the host in Virtual Center 2.0. (I was copying it from another host). When I added a VMKernel with a seperate IP from the host and I commited the change the host became unavailable.

I am fairly new to VMWARE and LINUX. Can I login to my ESX host and remove the VKERNEL. Can anyone tell me what went wrong?

    Thanks

you need 1 vswitch with one ip address assigned to a service console. you then need a second vswitch with service console and vmotion if you intend to use vmotion. Ideally you then want 1 or more for your vm networks

None of my Linux hosts appear as hosts that are assignable to a host group for my MD3000i.  I have tried manually configuring host access as well as creating the host group first, but no hosts are available.  I can assign a single host to the Group, but I need to have multiple hosts access on Virtual Disk.

    DB:3.03:Hosts Don't Appear In Host Groups d7

I don't know enough about LVM to say for sure, but you're taking a huge risk doing that.

I'd recommend to make 2 virtual disks and present 1 to each server. If one server goes down and you need access to the data on it's virtual disk, you go to modify and edit the mappings. Then you give the disk to the remaining server and issue a hot_add to have it rescan for new disks. After this you can see the disk and mount it (or if you set it up for LVM, import it into LVM).

We have an SQL 2014 virtualised server running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 failover cluster.
At present SQL has 1 virtual processor assigned to it. Each host in our two host cluster has 2 socketswith 8 cores, giving 16 virtual processors. In a nutshell how many virtual processors is it recommended to assign to SQL and from that
point what are the recommendations for configuring NUMA?
We are a small research unit, not google, so our requirements are fairly modest.
I know thisis a really generalistic question, but any general advice would be great.

    hello,

Currently have two weblogic servers on seperate nodes (one weblogic domain per node and one server per domain) managed by a hardware loadbalancer; both running the same site. i am looking to add another site to each node. both sites would be sharing the same external ip but different dns names.

what is the best approach to configure the new site?

    1) should i add the site as a different weblogic server but under the weblogic domain for that physical node. Then setup 2 virtual host point to each server based on the dns name.

    2) should i create new weblogic server in a new domain (so basically two weblogic domains per physical node). however i am not sure if virtual host apply in this case to each node or if i could setup bindings on that domain (similar to host header in iis).

what are your thoughts on each approach

    thank you

just to clarify you are suggesting i use option number where i put the second site on another weblogic server within the same weblogic domain as apposed to creating two domains. Also is the concept of virtual hosting applicable to domains or just managed servers.

    Hi

I want to access the Weblogic console (weblogic running on linux guest) from the XP host.

I have the 'default' VM player set-up currently with vmnet0 (to too auto bridged)vmnet1(set tohost only) and vmnet 8(set to NAT).

It's my understanding that in thsi 'default' configuration that I can't access the weblogic console from the host.

I have the VMWare Virtual Network Adapter exe insalled (however this is the cut-down one that comes with VM Player, not the one with workstation that has the tabs)

Any ideas on how to get this working ?

Thanks for your help in advance.

DB:2.98:Accessing Weblogic Console On Linux Guest On Vm Player 9z

    Hi

If you know where the weblogic server is installed and if you are able to access the config.xml file, then check in the listen address and listen port field of AdminServer if anything is mentioned. If the listen address field has any dns name mentioned then try to open the admin console from your XP machine with that http://dnsname:port/console.
This is also one of the way that you can open the admin console.

    Thanks,

I am having an application (UCM11g) which is deployed on Weblogic server (10.3.4). I am trying to configure OHS11g (11.1.1.2) as a proxy to the application on Weblogic. First i just configured mod_wl_ohs.conf for the console (Weblogic Admin Console -- listening on 7001 -- URL is http://host:7001/console) and enabled Weblogic plugin in admin console. Thats working fine means i can access the admin console through OHS (http://host:7778/console).

But when i configure my application (UCM --- listening on 16200 --- URL is http://host:16200/cs/login/login.htm) in mod_wl_ohs.conf and access through OHS (http://host:7778/cs/login) , the login page is coming (only username and password is displaying) but its not properly coming like when i access the application using exact url (http://host:16200/cs/login/login.htm).

If i enter the username and password in the page (http://host:7778/cs/login) , it is again redirection to OHS homepage (http://host:7778) and not loging to the application.

DB:2.93:Using Url Alias With Weblogic - How Do You Do It? cz

Bear with me I have zero experience with Weblogic.

We use Weblogic as a component of Hyperion Planning, meaning for Hyperion Planning weblogic is installed and acts as the java application AND webserver.

Currently our Hyperion Planning URL is http://servername:port as per security audit we need to use an alias so that users do not have straight access to the direct URL link.

Therefore we created on the DNS a URL alias BFS.companyname.com. Now I need to associate this alias with the Planning URL which is in weblogic.

I have logged into the weblogic admin console and see 'Virtual Hosts', I enter in the host name BFS.companyname.com and select the target which is the Hyperion Planning workspace (http://servername:port) apply changes yet nothing occurs.

If anyone has done a URL direction could you please post the instructions on how to do so...thanks

    JTS

DB:2.93:Using Url Alias With Weblogic - How Do You Do It? cz

Just to share this will all. The URL alias redirection is done within Apache webserver and not the Weblogic program.

Edit the httpd.conf file with this information below:
    1. Configure Apache to listen on port 80:
    a. Back up the configuration file, e:\Hyperion\common\httpServers\Apache\2.0.52\conf\ht tpd.conf
    b. Add "Listen 80" to the Listen section.
    c. In the Virtual Hosts section, (around line 955), uncomment the line, "NameVirtualHost *:19000"
    d. Add "NameVirtualHost *:80"
    e. Uncomment the "VirtualHost *:19000" code block, down to "/VirtualHost"
    f. Edit and add the following block to Virtual Hosts
    VirtualHost *:80
    ServerName www.myserver.com
    DocumentRoot e:/Hyperion/common/httpServers/Apache/2.0.52/htdocs
    /VirtualHost
    g. Restart Apache.

    2. Redirect Web Page
    a. Create a page in the virtual web directory, index.html that contains the following html code:
    htmlhead
    meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; url=http://myserver:19000/workspace/index.jsp"

    Hi,

Is it possible to configure a virtual SCSI Controller without

actually having the physical hardware installed on the host GSX Server.

    I assume not ???

I want to practice configuring RAID arrays.

Can you do this in GSX Server or do you need ESX Server or the actual

    hardware installed ???

    Cheers

    Scott

    DB:2.92:Emulating Scsi Controllers 81

A couple of things to add:

\- In general, the hardware that shows up inside the VM is independent of the hardware on your host; this enables VMs to be portable across hosts regardless of what the host hardware is. So for example, in the guest you will see either a buslogic or LSI Logic SCSI controller (depending on which you configured) regardless of whether your host has a different SCSI controller or even no SCSI controller at all!

\- As others have said, we don't emulate a RAID controller, but you could do this with software RAID in the guest OS using multiple virtual disks. Someone else mentioned that this would give you no hardware redundancy, but actually you could get reundancy as long as you make sure the different .vmdk files that represent each virtual SCSI disk are located on different physical hard drives on your host.

I know that there was a problem in which the Apache plug-in did not work
with virtual hosting on the Apache server. A fix was released for this.
You may want to first upgrade to the latest service pack. If that does not
work, you may want to contact technical support.

1- Before shutdown wls domain, uncheck HOSTNAME VERIFICATION on wls console.
2- Copy your ORACLE_HOME to the other machine
3- Alter all LISTEN_ADDRESS tags on your domain's config.xml to new values according to your new environment

4- If you have managed servers configured on your domain, you'll also have to change LISTEN ADDRESS entry on WL_HOME/common/nodemanager/nodemanager.properties file

    Jami,

The virtual host will not be sufficient for the cluster. You may get
the virtual host effect you are looking for but it will not
load-balance or failover. What you're looking for here is a proxy.
Hardware or software proxies will both work and you can configure them
to the default ports so that you don't have to specify them. You can
use the following software plugin-ins with a cluster:

    -HTTPClusterServlet
-WebLogic plugin for Apache Web Server
-WebLogic plugin for Netscape Enterprise Server
-WebLogic plugin for Microsoft Internet Information Server

Using these are documented on http://edocs.bea.com check out the doc
section for the server version you are using.

    Hello,

I've a cluster VSphere 4.1 with many host with HA and DRS enabled. I find that every ESX host clock differs in time configuration by each other ... the time differences in some case is also same days ... fortunately all virtual machines aren't syncronized with the host ...

Now if i'm starting to modify clock of each ESX, like setting ntp, stop service, ntp restart, or configuring it manually. Can I have some trouble? Or may attention in something?

    Thanks

DB:2.86:Vsphere Cluster - Host Time Differences aa

You should be aware that even if you aren't synching time with the guest, certain operations will always cause a time sync. The two that come to mind are taking/deleting a snapshot and vMotion operations. Even if time sync is disabled in the VMware Tools, the guest will still sync time with the host after those operations.

So yes, you should make sure that your ESX are using the same NTP time source so that they all stay in sync.

Here's a good article on timekeeping best practices for virtual machines:

    DB:2.83:Iisforward And Iisproxy Configuration Internals/Interaction 1d

Can someone give a detailed description of how IISForward and IISProxy interact
with IIS as ISAPI modules? We have the IIS plugins functioning properly, we would
just like a more detailed explanation on how they interact and work together when
proxying multiple virtual hosts. It seems that many people are in the dark on
this process, and that any clarification would alleviate many of the posts we
see here. I would also settle for a link to some documentation (not BEA's, it
    is very poor!) on this.

Here is an excerpt from some documentation that we have written up internally
that helped us keep track of what we were doing when setting up the IIS Plugins.
Some of this content draws from BEA's documentation so we here at Servicemaster
make no claims on this content:

    START OF EXCERPT:

    6. Configuring IISForward

    6.1 Installing iisforward.dll

Before creating the Virtual hosts in IIS, we need to create the directories that
are going to contain the DLLs. There is going to be a one-to-one relationship
between Virtual Hosts and DLL directories. First create a directory where all
of the DLL directories will reside:

    D:\WebLogicVHosts

Within this directory create the directory for each Virtual Host that will be
    connecting to the WebLogic instance:

    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost1-svmhome.com
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost2-svmwork.com
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost3-svmmemphis.com

Now copy the iisforward.dll from the directory WL_HOME/server/bin into each of
the directories you created for each of the Virtual Hosts.

    6.2 Creating iisforward.ini

Create a file called iisforward.ini. Place this file in the same directories for
each of the virtual hosts that contain the iisforward.dll. This file should contain
the following entry for each virtual website defined in IIS:

    vhostN=websiteName:port
    websiteName:port=dll_directory/iisproxy.ini

    Where:

N is an integer representing the virtual website. The first virtual website you
define should use the integer 1 and each subsequent website should increment this
    number by 1.
websiteName is the name of the virtual website as registered with IIS.
port is the port number where IIS listens for HTTP requests.
dll_directory is the path to the directory you created in step 1.

    For example:

    vhost1=svmhome.com:7001
    svmhome.com:7001=D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost1-svmhome.com \iisproxy.ini
    vhost2=svmwork.com:7002
    svmwork.com:7002= D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost2-svmhome.com \iisproxy.ini
    vhost3=svmmemphis.com:7003
    svmmemphis.com:7003= D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost3-svmmemphis.com \iisproxy.ini

    7. Configuring IISProxy

    7.1 Installing IISProxy

Now copy the iisproxy.dll from the directory WL_HOME/server/bin into each of the
directories you created for each of the Virtual Hosts.

    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost1-svmhome.com
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost2-svmwork.com
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost3-svmmemphis.com

    7.2 Creating iisproxy.ini

The iisproxy.ini file contains name=value pairs that define configuration parameters
for the plug-in. Changes in the parameters will not go into effect until you
    restart the "IIS Admin Service".
We need to create a iisproxy.ini configuration file for each of the virtual hosts.
Here is a sample iisproxy.ini file for use with a single, non-clustered WebLogic
Server. Comment lines are denoted with the "#" character.

    # This file contains initialization name/value pairs
    # for the IIS/WebLogic plug-in.
    WebLogicHost=examplehost16
    WebLogicPort=7001
    ConnectTimeoutSecs=20
    ConnectRetrySecs=2

Here is a sample iisproxy.ini file with clustered WebLogic Servers. Comment lines
are denoted with the "#" character.

    # This file contains initialization name/value pairs
    # for the IIS/WebLogic plug-in.
    WebLogicCluster=examplehost07:7001,examplehost08:7001
    ConnectTimeoutSecs=20
    ConnectRetrySecs=2

    8. Configuring IIS Virtual Hosts

    8.1 Proxying by file extension

At this point we are now ready to configure the virtual hosts within IIS. First
create a new virtual website as you would normally do within IIS. Second add
the iisforward.dll file as a filter service in IIS (WebSite Properties ISAPI
Filters tab Add the iisforward dll). For each virtual host the path to the
iisforward.dll should be unique. The paths should match the ones that you created
previously. Again, there should be a unique path for each virtual website.

    Example:

    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost1-svmhome.com\iisforward.dll
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost2-svmwork.com\iisforward.dll
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost3-svmmemphis.com\iisforward.dll

On the App Mappings tab, click the Add button to add file types and configure
them to be proxied to WebLogic Server. In the dialog box, browse to find the
"iisproxy.dll" file that matches the path to the unique iisproxy.dll file for
    the virtual host.

    Example:

    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost1-svmhome.com\iisproxy.dll
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost2-svmwork.com\iisproxy.dll
    D:\WebLogicVHosts\vhost3-svmmemphis.com\iisproxy.dll

Set the Extension to the type of file that you want to proxy to WebLogic Server.
Register .wlforward as a special file type to be handled by iisproxy.dll. Deselect
the "Check that file exists" check box. Set the Method exclusions as needed
    to create a secure installation.

When you finish, click the OK button to save the configuration. You can repeat
this process for each file type you want to proxy to WebLogic. When you finish
configuring file types, click the OK button to close the Properties panel.

In the URL, any path information you add after the server and port is passed directly
to WebLogic Server. For example, if you request a file from IIS with the URL:

    Example:

    http://svmhome.com/jspfiles/myfile.jsp

it is proxied to WebLogic Server with a URL such as

    http://examplehost07:7001/jspfiles/myfile.jsp

    8.2 Proxying by path

Now, within the iisproxy.dll file for each virtual host, define the property WlForwardPath
in iisproxy.ini. WlForwardPath defines the path that is proxied to WebLogic
    Server.

    Example:
    WlForwardPath=/apps

Set the PathTrim parameter to trim off the WlForwardPath when necessary.

    Example:

    WlForwardPath=/apps
    PathTrim=/apps

The previous trims a request from IIS to Weblogic Server. Therefore, /apps/exampleapp
    is changed to /exampleapp.
If you want requests that do not contain extra path information (in other words,
requests containing only a host name), set the DefaultFileName parameter to the
name of the welcome page of the Web Application to which the request is being
proxied. The value of this parameter is appended to the URL.

If you need to debug your application, set the Debug=ON parameter in iisproxy.ini.
A c:\tmp\iisforward.log is generated containing a log of the plug-in's activity
that you can use for debugging purposes.

For each virtual host that you configure to be proxied to WebLogic, set the value
for the Application Protection option to high (isolated) as opposed to Low or
Medium. This allows separate iisforward and iisproxy DLLs to be loaded into
each virtual hosts (dllhost.exe) memory address space.

    END OF EXCERPT

Can someone at BEA verify this information or possible add to it?

    Tony

    DB:2.83:Iisforward And Iisproxy Configuration Internals/Interaction 1d

    Nice write-up.

Though, I may have found an easier way to use VirtualHost and/or Virtual
Directories with IIS without the need to use the iisforward.dll.

A lot of customers are asking about using multiple WlForwardPath to proxy to
different WebLogic instances. It is possible to use Virtual Directories to
    do this.
All that you need to do is set the Application Protection to HIGH for each
    Virtual Directory
and then each directory can use it's own iisproxy.dll/iisproxy.ini. Fairly
straight forward and it seems to
    work.

As well, you can do Virtual Websites with each one having the application
protection set to HIGH as well. And of course they will each use their own
iisproxy.dll/iisproxy.ini. These virtual Websites can also all listen on
    the
same IP/Port and if you want to proxy based on Host header, you can click on
the advanced tab and set the Host header for which this virtual website will
    use.

So, all that really needs to be done is when you create the virtual
    directory, make sure the
application protection is set to HIGH and change the App Mapping to point to
    the new iisproxy.dll/iisproxy.ini.

If you want to proxy everything under that path, then Add another App
    Mapping
that has an extension of *.

I do believe this will allow us to completely bypass the need of the
    iisforward.

I have tested this with IIS5. With IIS4 it is not possible to register an
App Mapping of *(not sure why).

I hope this helps many of you.

    Best regards,

    Eric

    Hi all,

I have an application running on JBoss 4.x which is configured to run virtual hosts. (The virtual hosts are contained in the Host section of server.xml and in jboss-web.xml). How do I port this to JBoss 7 ? just adding the alias in the virtual-server section seem not to work.
    virtual-server name="default-host" enable-welcome-root="true" alias name="localhost"/ alias name="myhost.com"/ /virtual-server
am I missing something in the virtual host configuration ?

    Hi,

you have to create a new virtual-server element and point it to the war module you want to use.

If you don't set the web-module, jboss will use the default ROOT.war.

So, if your war file is nameOfWarModuleWithoutDotWar.war, your virtual server configuration will be like below.

    subsystem xmlns="urn:jboss:domain:web:1.0" default-virtual-server="virtualServerName" connector name="http" protocol="HTTP/1.1" socket-binding="http" scheme="http"/ virtual-server name="virtualServerName" default-web-module="nameOfWarModuleWithoutDotWar" alias name="example.com"/ alias name="otherExample.com"/ /virtual-server /subsystem

You need to use the vmware-config.pl script to make network changes on a Linux host. The GUI only exists on a Windows host.

In order to test our load balancing infrastructure, we have written a small sniffer application which echo information about a WebLogic server. The sniffer is a simple web application which consist of a single JSP. We deploy the sniffer onto all virtual hosts in a domain prior to testing the infrastructure. The sniffer is used to test load balancing, session stickyness, http redirects etc. in a environment before applications are put into production. The setup is also used to verify the behavior of our load balancing infrastructure when it is upgraded.

When we deploy the sniffer to all virtual hosts in a domain, it blocks for changes to the virtual hosts, fx. adding/removing listen names. Is it possible to make permanent deployment in WebLogic which listens to all Virtual hosts in a domain but dosn't block the VH for modifications? We would like all requests with the URL http:/host/sniffer" to be handled by the sniffer application, where host is any listen name defined by a virtual host in the domain.

Do I need to override a WebLogic class to do this?

    DB:2.82:Document Needed 8f

    Hi Team,

Can someone guide me in documenting these topics:

    1) 1. Introduction to VMWARE Workstation

    2. Difference between Host and Guest OS

    3. Installing Workstation Software

    4. Configuring Network

    5. Creating a new Virtual Disk

    DB:2.82:Document Needed 8f

Most of this is covered in the helpfile and admin guide you get with the product.

    1. thats a big question, it covers far too wide a range of topics, helpfile will help you best with that.

    2. The "Host" is the normal phyiscal PC you run on, therefore your host OS is whatever you have currently installed on it that you then put VMware on top of. Guest OS, Guests are the virtual machines, and exist purely within a few files on your hard disk, your guest OS is a complete separate OS in its own right, and such as MS products, you need a license for each guest OS.

    3. Run setup, follow the wizard

    4. It does core part of that for you, the only decision you need to make is for each guest what do you need to do with it.

    ... 1. No network required

... 2. Only talk to your host machine (host only)

... 3. Your guest to talk out as if it were your machine, but no one to get in.. (NAT)

... 4. Your guest to appear as if you have a completely separate machine on the network with people able to see it on the network as if it were real. (Bridged)

    5. Creating a new virtual disk is done by the new guest wizard, and it explains your options very well.

Ok I went back and checked the registry Shell line.

It seems when I merged an edited copy of the sample

reg file it for some reason was not merging the Shell

    portion of the reg file.

When I was messing with this, I found that it's really easy to get the shell= line wrong in the .reg file, and the behavior if you do this -- if shell= is subtly wrong -- is that Windows reports success merging the .reg file when you double-click it, but makes no changes to the Shell entry in the registry.

It's easy to get wrong because of the quoting convention that .reg files used. You need quotes on both the name and the value (ignoring any actual quotes in the value), and you need to escape (with a backslash) any quotes or backslashes. So a simple value would look like

    "shell" = "value"

but given that value looks more like "C:\Directory name\app.exe" "and some arguments" (and those quotes are part of the value, not the quotes that go around the value in the above example!), the actual .reg file for shell= looks more like

    "shell"="\"c:Directory nameapp.exe" \"test\""

(Note that we start with the " that goes outside the value, then immediately \" to get the quote that we did want before C:, then C:, then to get a single backslash between C: and Directory, etc...)

Probably the easiest way to get the right shell= value is to edit some temporary part of the registry with regedit (doesn't matter where you put this because we'll move it), add a new string value named Shell and specify the contents as you want them interactively (so you don't have to worry about the funny rules for \ and "), then export this to a .reg file, and copy/paste just the shell= line from this .reg file to the one you want to use for the "ace" user account.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

DB:2.78:Configuring Weblogic 8.1 To Hide The Jsp File Name To Be Displayed s8

You should use a controller servlet which forwards to the correct JSP. Then the JSP name is not displayed in the address bar.

With 8.1 you simply could use a Java pageflow to link several JSPs.
Generated URLs in the browser will look like
    http://localhost:7001/sampleportal/newpageflow1/test.do;jsessionid=BFssBfmdv4Ly1GDG7gJNZH1d3s2ShJG2qpG4KJJMVvSf0JdyG2nQ!1118879021

DB:2.78:Found A Bug With Either Docs Or Virtual Host Creation mk

    I believe I found a but with wls8.1. : Well, either there's a bug with the
docs or a bug with the console.

For the past few days I've been trying to create a virtual host and give it
a default web application. I could do this quite easily in wls 7.0sp1, but
unfortuantely am not able to do it in 8.1. However, according to the docs,
"Configuring a Virtual Host" step 3
    (http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/virtual_hosts.html), there is
supposed to be a dropdown listbox. However I don't see one. If the docs
are correct, then there must be a bug with the console. If the docs are
wrong, how does someone give a default web app to the virtual host?

    Can anyone confirm/deny this? Thanks.

DB:2.78:Found A Bug With Either Docs Or Virtual Host Creation mk

    Howdy.

i was asking the same question a month ago. what i did was to modify theconfiguration file (config.xml) directly.
I remember you asking! : Well, at least I remember someone posting a
question about this a while back. I just skipped it seeing as how we were
still on 7.0sp1 at the time and just assumed (sorry :) that 8.1 had that
functionality in there, but I guess not! :

Thanks for the heads up. Now I just have to figure out how to put that in
    there? Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

Setup:GFI (Default SMTP Virtual Server with smart host configured as Exchange 2000)Exchange 2000 (Default SMTP Virtual Server with smart host configured as GFI server)Exchange 2003 (no smart hosts configured yet) I'm in the middle of an Exchange 2000 to 2003 migration.  I have an obvious SMTP routing issue where Exchange 2000 mailboxes cannot talk to Exchange 2003.  But mailboxes on Exchange 2003 can talk to Exchange 2000.And I now know that configuring a Smart Host on the Default SMTP Virtual Server in Exchange 2000 is not correct, and that it should be configured by creating an SMTP connector and adding the smart host there.Question now is:  When I create the SMTP connector with the GFI smart host do I add both Exchange 2000 and 2003 as the bridgeheads or just one of the servers?

    DB:2.78:Exchange 2000 To 2003 Migration Smtp Routing 9c

Frank,Yes, both Exchange servers are in the same routing group.  I created an SMTP connector, added GFI as the smart host, added both Exchange 2000 and 2003 as a bridgehad and now I can send mail between 2000/2003/Internet.Apparently before I got here someone incorrectly added the GFI smart host under the Default SMTP Virtual Server but it was working.  I also contacted GFI and their documentation states to create an SMTP connector too.Well, mail routing is correctly configured....thanks Luke and Frank.

I'm no expert at OC4J but doesn't configuring the Apache server for virtual hosts presume that you have a directory of jsp files as opposed to a depoloyed J2EE application with JSPs?

I found something else since I first posted: in srever.xml you can have multiple website.xml files. Can this be used to create virtual hosted J2EE applications? Could I add to server.xml:

    web-site path="./x-website.xml" /
    web-site path="./y-website.xml" /

And then in the website xml files indicate the respective root url with the host parameter?

Or is it necessary to involve the Apache server in the way indicated previoiusly?

    DB:2.77:Re:J2ee Virtual Hosts c1

I think my solution makes more sense, the proxy redirect is within the context of virtual host. But I am experiencing server brittlness and instability that might be related to my solution.

    DB:2.77:Vmnet - Virtual Switch ? pp

/me is a bit confuzed here....

I've been monitoring the virtual switch (hub?) stats that vmware provide in /proc/vmnet. If I send packets from host A to host B then the stats for host C in the same network will know that this traffic is not really for this host and log this as "Dropped mismatch". In host A and B this will have impact in the TX and RX stats as expected.

When all the logic for making this switch behaviour is present, why would it still work as a hub? It should be the simplest thing in the world making it work like a switch. Is there a hidden setting somewhere?

    Hi,

    |-- Tivoli LDAP directory

I have downloaded the identity management package 11g and install only the OVD on Windows 2003 standard machine.
I then realized that I have to install the WebLogic package to have WEB UI to the OVD admin.

    and complete the installation.
Notice that the OVD and the WeblOgic SW are installed on the same Windows machine.
After that I had to register Oracle Virtual Directory with the WebLogic Administration Server.
Running the command-line I got the following error:

Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle products on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware. If a problem is a known Oracle issue, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution on the native OS. If that solution does not work in the VMware virtualized environment, the customer will be referred to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the Oracle solution does not work when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.

I have configured the OHS virtual host in front of weblogic server for accessing the console. The OHS and weblogic are on different machine and I am using the port based virtual hosting. I am able to access the console using the virtual host but when I click on 'Activate changes' after deployment/delete, the url is redirected to the Admin server url, and I get the login page again.

This redirection does not happen when the OHS virtual host and weblogic server are using the same port number. What I have observed is while 'Activating changes' the port number in the url is compared to the admin server and channel's port and if it does not match then connection is reset to the Admin server url.

Can anyone please suggest why this redirection is happening?

DB:2.76:Issue With Console Access When Ohs Is Configured In Front Of Weblogic sc

Not sure which version of WebLogic Server you are using, but recent versions have a console preference, "Follow configuration changes", that can be disabled to avoid changing urls to server-centric ports on activation. Clear that setting and try this again.

DB:2.75:Help Me Configure Bridged Networking pk

I have just build a Dell 2950 to host three virtual servers on a production network. I have installed VMWare Server 1.0.8 and have one virtual machine ready to go. The physical host is running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 64 bit. The virtual host is the same except 32 bit. I have a second dedicated nic I want to use for the virtual machine. I want the virtual machine to have a static IP address on my production network so I'm quite sure I need to use bridged mode. The issue I am having is actually configuring the interfaces. Do I configure the physical host with a static address and also the virtual host with a static address? Is the Virtual Network Editor DHCP service used in this instance? I have disabled NAT as I have no need for it. Basically, in the Virtual Network Editor I am pointing VMnet2 to the second physical network card that I want to dedicate for the virtual machine.

My network is 10.218.100.x\24 and I have a couple of addresses available for this. I have assigned .15 to the physical host nic. I have .16 through .20 available to use. Could someone provide a brief description of how I can configure the virtual nic to have one of these static addresses and be available on the production network?

DB:2.75:Help Me Configure Bridged Networking pk

Well, it works as long as I only use one virtual image. When I start up a second image on the same host, the networking on the second image doesn't work and the the networking on the first virtual image is flaky, in other words a continuous ping periodically times out. Here is the configuration:

    Physical Host

    IP address: 10.1.1.2

    gateway: 10.1.1.1

    dns1: 10.1.1.100

    dns2: 10.1.1.101

    Virtual Image 1

    Physical nic: 10.1.1.3

    Virtual nic: 10.1.1.4

same gateway and dns as above

    Virtual Image 2

    Physical nic: 10.1.1.5

    Virtual nic: 10.1.1.6

same gateway and dns as above

Under Virtual Network Editor, the physical host is bridged to VMnet0, Virtual Image 1 is bridged to VMnet2 and Virtual Image 2 is bridged to VMnet3. DHCP and NAT are both stopped. Logically this should work, but something is causing nic confusion. If I turn just one virtual image on, it works perfectly. When I boot the second, both VMs act flaky. Any suggestions?

I am in the process of building a 11.1.2.3 environment and have a question on configuring planning. We plan to have a distributed environment where we have HSS on one server and planning on a different server.HSS has been configured on HOST "A" with weblogic and deployed.Planning has been installed on HOST "B" and during the confuration phase, it asks for deployment information.Should i be pointing it to HOST "A" or create a new domain.Edit:- As per the install doc from oracle, i find this mentioned on page 80. On the machine on which you plan to administer the WebLogic Server, you must install allJava web applications for all applications you plan to deploy on any machine in theenvironment. (The WebLogic Administration Server is installed and deployed on theFoundation Services machine.)Thanks.

Thanks. JohnFollowed your instructions and the document. Was able to succesfully finish configuration.

How to run EJBS,servlets and JSP's in weblogic.,the path setting needed

    DB:2.74:Configuring Weblogic Server6.0 p1

You have to create ejb modules as jar file, then web modules as war file. Then start the server go to the console, there u can deploy.
    API will be in weblogic.jar
