    When you set the Time.timeScale to zero, you have said that time should stop. This includes calls to the Update() function which is executed each frame update.     The last 2 days whenever I play Fifa for about half a hour I\'d be in a game and around half way through the first half the commentary will just stop as does the crowd chants so the only thing I can hear is the noise of the ball being passed about, then in the second half the scoreboard with the time and team names disappear so I have no idea what minute the game is in, and thats not the worst thing as if I pause the game the menu doesn\'t come up, just the little news feed thing down the bottom scrolling and the game plays on with me not able to control my players just able to watch the game, and if I don\'t pause it during the game it will either freeze at half time or at the end of the game, now at first I thought this was simply a problem with my Fifa 12 disc, but I bought Saints Row 3 yesterday and after around 2 hours of playing the audio randomly cut out and then when I tried to pause it the game froze, and when I tried to play it again it kept freezing at the main menu,I tried playing again today and after bout 2 hours again playing it the same thing has happened so it must be something wrong with PS3, does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

    Thinking it could be a lens problem, would I lens cleaner fix this?

    Usually if it was affecting FIFA only I would suggest deleting the Game Data, and reloading the game. The fact this is happening on Saints Row as well may indicate the issue is elsewehere but deleting the Game Data is a good place to start for the games affected.

    However if you have the case where a full format still does not rectify the issue and it is freezing on every game, this may indicate an issue with the reader but it is too early to say. The HDD itself may be at fault when backing up the games. When doing a save its important to check there are no interruptions to this. as well.

    Time.time is the time since the start of the game, so even when the clock is paused the value of Time.time is increasing. So as soon as you run the DOCountdown function after a pause it will update timeRemaining with all the elapsed time since game time began, without a gap for the pause.

    Altough force shutting down a computer by holding down the on/off buton for a few seconds and then letting it go, is not widely advised, it doesn't seem to do the computer much harm (at least in my experience). I've force shut down my MacBook this way a few times and the computer still works fine when rebooted. Also I rebooted it over christmas when I encountered a problem surrounding blank messages, this way and it solved the problem. I would however ensure all your files are backed up before forcing shutting it down, just be on the safe side.

    When Lucan entered, the game froze for a couple of seconds at the same moment then before.

    Reloaded checkpoint, and the game would keep doing the same.

    Restarted the whole chaper, and it was sorted out.

    Now I can manage the problem that causing my computer FREEZE.

    I found that one of HP software thatmake my computer freezing some time when I played game or watch a movie.

    So I just disabled the HP application in "Startup" and "Services". It's already 2 week I can plaing a gmae and watching movie without FREEZE.

    For any other HP type that got the same problem try this:

    1. Type "msconfig" in Run or start search

    2. Go to Services , tick hide all Microsoft services

    3. Just un-tick everything that not Microsoft services.

    4. Go to Startup, and press disable all

    5. restart the computer

    6. And try to the activity that make you computer freeze or lock.

    7. Activated one by one the services and startup and repeat again number 6.

    8. And don't acitvate permanently the services or startup that make your computer freeze

    I've made a game which fills a picturebox with a random image, and uses a do loop totest whether a button (btnNext or mnuQuit) is clicked (which assign True and False toblnNext and blnPlaying respectively).    The form seems to freeze (but no exception is raised) when the game is started, and when I pause the debug process, the do loop portion of code is highlighted. It is supposed to loop and test if blnNext = True to go to the next game question, and test if blnPlaying = False to stop the game.    Brace yourself, it's a laaata code!.....

    You would need to put the loop in a separate sub and run this sub in a new thread.
    This thread then should be started and listens for input. When it got input, it should join your main-thread and close.

    I have several movie layers and need to insert a pause for a few sec, i.e. freeze a frame across all layers. For a single layer I am using the following technique:

    1) Add a keyframe at the pause start point

    2) press PgUp, move to the next frame and add another keyframe (A)

    3) increase the duration of the composition for the desired pause time

    4) select keyframe A and the last keyframe of the layer

    5) move this range right as needed

    This works perfectly for a single layer. Butit is a real pain to do it for multiple layers, to keep the exact time position of all keyframes. Also, if I change a pause on one layer I have to synchronize other layers accordingly. Is there a better way of doing this?

    Heaven knows how this happens, but if I pause my shuffle approx. 4 times out of 10 it'll not come out of pause So you turn it off then on and it'll jump to where it was playing when you last turned the shuffle on, at a high volume.

    Also (not sure if it's related) but every time I plug my shuffle into my comptuer iTunes starts trying to update the same few songs everytime. Usually between 4 and 12 songs auto-transfer themselves, even though they are already on the player and play fine.

    Is it just me having these random problems?

    Im using the kernel26-ck package using the BFS patch for kernel 2.6.34. I have been experiencing a noticeable pause or a freeze of the mouse cursor/system using this kernel. It seems to happen at irregular time intervals - often while the system is under load (x264 encoding or running mprime), but it will also happen when idle. If I boot into the kernel26 package (official package) I get no such behavior.

    I have an old dual zeon machine that runs properly w/ CK patches unless the hyperthreading option is enabled in bios. If it is I get massive lags. If I push it really hard one CPU will spike badly and maybe even lock the box up if process is not killed. Stock kernel runs proper. Maybe this is off base but hope it might be of help.

    start game again and this time install the patch. just as it is finished press ps3 button when possible. exit game. start game again and now you should be able to update the online functionality.

    The function start is only called once when the game starts running. You need to use the function Update instead.


    You'll have to change the content of the function as well. You can't change the deltaTime, because it's just the time since the last frame. I'm assuming you want to freeze time, which is Time.timeScale. I don't know what you want to do with your pause variables though.

    My application moving a ball around the form like a ping pong game.
    I want to make a pause/resume button.
    Thread.Sleep isnt good here cuz the sleep freeze the application you cant resume you need to wait for the sleep to over. if its 5 seconds or 500 seconds.
    I want something with pause and resume.
    So i built switch button pause/resume but either get the value of each part in my code and use it in the pause function is there any other way ?
    Cuz for now im trying to figure out how to get the value of the ball in current position so i can rest its speed to 0.

    Fine! So we know this is not a hardware issue and that it seems to be isolated to text inputs. Let's test some more.

    Choose Log Out from the Apple menu and on the login use for User Name: console (with the "" sign) and hit enter, you will drop the graphic interface and use only text interaction. You should be prompted for your login name and password at this time. From the prompt you can use some simple command line and text editors, while typing commands you will see if you have delays.
    Here are some simple commands and shortcuts:

    to check your location on the directory tree - pwd
    to get a simple and long list of items at current directory - ls (simple) ls -l (long)
    to change current directory - cd .. (to parent directory) cd Path/To/Directory (to subdirectory reference from the current) cd / (to root) cd /Path/To/Directory (using the root as starting point)
    to print some command options available - help
    to open some command manual - man comandname
    to get help reading manuals hit the h key
    to quit this help or manual reading hit the q key

    Text editor:
    Create a simple text file with the list of current directory contents - ls -l listed.mycreatedfile (the "" sends the output to the following file that can have any extension.
    Open the file using nano text editor - nano listed.mycreatedfile
    Type some more into file and use the CONTROL+X to exit, nano asks to save buffer, save it.

    Exit console with the exit command line - exit

    You should get to the Graphic Interface and feel relief

    Check if delay is present on this login screen also. I think it is related to spell checking.

    Since you are using Timescale to pause the game in this case your GUITexture will not be shown since after setting the timescale to zero every operation depending on timescale will be paused.


    On way is to use GUI.Button for your buttons for pause menu since OnGUI elements are independent on timescale. Obviously you can use this method if you are not developing for mobile devices.


    Otherwise you need to create your custom global time counter and use it to pause the game elements that you want to stop when the game is paused. So this way all other elements will still work since you are not affecting the timescale directly.

    Odd.
    Reviewing your specs reminded me that I acquired a similar dual-core processor like yours before this problem occured. Freezing however happens to me in multiplayer mode as well.

    Just as I suspected.
    Find any driver for your Dual Core AMD processor.
    Since there was not any for the x64 X2 type (like mine) I tried the Dual Core Optimizer software from AMD's support page. (http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342fItemID=153)
    The game seems to be working now. Based on previous experience the error should have occured by now if it is still present.
    My reply is somewhat late, I hope it still helps others who still use XP. (I believe that this problem does not exist on newer Windows where Multi Core usage is more advanced. Instead there are compatibility issues.)

    This is player has been seemingly one horrid of a time. Lately my Sleek will freeze while playing music for no reason. I use it the most in my truck while driving, it will be working fine and in the middle of a song it will just stop playing; the play/pause little icon will go away and it will be stuck on this screen till it dies.     When I stream movies to my Apple TV 2.3.1 (i.e. the movies are not synced and copied to aTV's hdd) I constantly have a pause after a few minutes, then the aTV rebuffers (blue bar filling up on the bottom of the screen) plays for a few minutes then rebuffers again, then plays, etc...
    I have an N only (5GHz) WiFi network connecting my iMac to an Airport Express base station,to the apple TV.

    Could the Firewire drive be powering down after a certain period - it may be that AppleTV gets enough data quickly to buffer adequately, stops buffering for a while, then when it needs to rebuffer the drive has gone to sleep.

    The software may also have changed the way it buffers somehow.

    I assume by freezing you mean pause the game. The approach that I used was to have a singleton game manager with a boolean variable called pause(or anything you like). Then in the update / or other relevant calls that run the game, I check for this variable and return if it is true. In your case you can use this variable to return from every script but the camera.


    You can also implement an event in the game manager and all the other scripts (except camera) can subscribe to this event. When triggered, the scripts should have their own implementation to stop whatever they are doing.

    One solution is to use your own delta time with the camera. Time.deltaTime will freeze if time scale is set to 0.0, but Time.realtimeSinceStartup will continue to be incremented. So you can some something like this.

    A strange new thing has started happening with my system.. Every 30 seconds or so the system seems to freeze for a few seconds then unfreezes and is fine for a period of time. For instance if I am playing a game that is graphic intensive the play will be fine till it hits that freeze point then all displays, response etc. pause. A few seconds later everything jumps to where it should be. The same thing happens if I am typing in Word for instance. I can keep typing and the system will catch up after freezing. If I watch the Activity monitor when this happens, the CPU usage seems to drop to 0 or very low then jumps right back up. Obviously this is an issue.

    I have ran the TechTools Deluxe and it didn't find any issues.

That is why the best bet (IMHO) is the record with a cleared buffer so you can just jump to the DVR menu and hit play from the point you want. Also, I believe (not positive) that the pause will be broken if the program crosses the barrier to the next show according to the guide.

    Look at the rest of the code in the music manager, especially the Update(). There is a timer there (gameHasControlTimer) that is unpausing the music after the default poll timeout (1.0 second). You need to modify that as well to make sure it does
    not reactivate the music if you intentionally paused it.

    I would suggest you to try starting the computer in safe mode and check if the issue persists.

    So it's constantly switching between them.


    I would use OnTriggerEnter and OnTriggerExit. In OnTriggerEnter toggle your pause and disable a boolean that indicates whether you have to toggle your pause and in your OnTriggerExit, enable that boolean so the next time the pause will get toggled.

You will also want to pause the gameplay, plays game ending music and etc. You can either have other scripts check for the gameOver boolean (which will do for a beginner's project), or freeze the game just to show a game over dialog box, or even jump to new a scene.

    Here's a slightly alternative solution. Make a new JS script on an empty GameObject and replace its contents with the code below:

    Note: BadGuy should be replaced with the name of your enemy script, and GameOver the name of the unity scene file that contains a Game Over screen. It's also good practice to put your enemy limit into a variable too, so you can tweak it at leisure


    What this does is, each frame it counts all the game objects that have a bad guy script, and if it exceeds the baddie limit value then go to a game over scene (you can just as easily replace this bit with GUI text, as in the example above). It should be stated that this is not as efficient as the above script, in that it searches for objects every frame instead of checking a value that is incremented with each spawn, but it may be easier to set up at first.

    In your console window there is an option called Error Pause. If that is on it means that every time there is an error the game will pause so you can analyze it.

    In the Editor, you can just click the pause button.


    From gamecode, you can set Time.timeScale to 0. See the help entry. This should pause most of your game, assuming you don't rely on stuff like asking the actual system time. You can also set timeScale to anything between 0 and 1 (and even 1 and up), to modify the speed at which your gamesimulation progresses.

    Setting Time.timeScale to 0.0 works great as you still can have at the same time a Unity GUI on top that is still clickable and the rest of Unity freezes meanwhile.
