Thanks for the error log entry.

Unfortunately, the "c0000005" error code appears to be a technical way for MS programmers to say "oops, something went wrong" (But then again, they have used that text error message too ... sigh ). By that I mean, that from what I've read on the forum it
shows up as a result of many causes, with many different fixes. Ooops.

The simplest thing is for you to type "code c0000005" or "error c0000005" in the search field at the top of this page and look through the search results for an answered problem that matches your situation. Be "loose" in your definition of "match".

"Microsoft Word/Excel has stopped working" Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". What do I need
to do to resolve this issue? The other programs work.

    DB:3.33:Office 365 Home Premium fm

    Hi Micah,

As I understand you have installed Office 365 Home Premium on the computer but are unable to open Office applications.

Follow the steps mentioned and check if it helps:
Step 1: Open Office applications in safe mode:
Refer to the link mentioned which explains how to open Office applications in safe mode. If Office applications work fine in safe mode then follow the complete article to disable the add-ins:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspX

Step 2: Boot the system in clean boot:
Clean boot is performed to disable all startup programs and 3rd party services on the machine and check if they are conflicting with the Office program.
Refer to the link mentioned to boot the system in clean boot:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: After checking in clean boot ensure to reboot the system in normal mode which is explained in the same article.

If Office applications work fine in clean boot then follow the complete article, perform advanced clean boot to check which program is causing the conflict. Once you have found the problem program, contact appropriate technical
support team to update the program.

Step 3: Repair Office 365 installation.
The issue might have occurred due to issues with the installation too. Follow the steps mentioned to repair office 365 installations:
    · Close all the Office applications.
    · Click on
Start Control Panel Programs and Features.
    · In the programs list, right click on Microsoft Office 365 program and click on Repair. Choose
Online Repair option to repair the Office installation.

Step 4: Uninstall Office 365 program and re-install it:
If the above steps do not fix the issue then uninstall Office 365 program and re-install it on the computer. Run the automated troubleshooter from the following article to remove all traces of the new Office installed on the system.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
Note: If you are using a 64-bit operating system, save the fixit tool on the system and then run it from the saved location.

Once the uninstallation is complete reboot the system and re-install Office 365 program.

I hope the above suggestion helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.
    Thank you.

Is there a way to disable the 2010 proxies (Office 2010 deployment kit) for 2003 users only?

DB:3.21:Office 2010 Home And Business Stopped Working And Reports A Side By Side Error For All The Office Programs ca

    Hi Marcus,

Your initial comments followed similar lines to the other advisers and unfortunately did not resolve the problem.

However the pointer to kb2525435 did allow me to resolve the problem.

By going to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_". and the registry key 9.0, I could see the default value was already the highest value in this group. However this value also
matched the value shown in the original error message.

I assumed that this related to Visual C++ 2008 Sp1 which I know was the Windows update which caused the problem.
I changed the default value to the second highest value which I hoped was Visual C++ 2008 and then installed Visual C++ 2008.

After a restart I was finally able to produce System recovery disks and also reinstall Office 2013 HB and run the various programs without the side-by-side error.

I hope this is the end of the problems with this PC. Lenovo get zero points for their lack of knowledge, unhelpful diagnosis and charging me 19+ Euros for disks after claiming that their recovery partition was corrupt!

Thank you for pointing the way to this solution and saving my sanity.

    Derek

    DB:3.19:Office 2013 Program Crashes 9j

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Office Community and we will be glad to assist you with your concern. By the description, I understand that none of the Office 365 subscription applications are running after installing.

It looks like the Office 365 might not have installed properly or Office related registry corruption due to earlier version on the computer.

Do you have the internet connected wirelessly to the computer or through a modem/router?

One of the common reasons is if the internet connectivity is setup wirelessly, there are possibilities that the bandwidth may not be constant or if any other application or source is also accessing Internet at the same time.

Connect the Internet connection through a hard wire instead of wireless and check if you can repair Office 2013 suite. Refer to the following link on how to perform a Quick repair and Online repair of Office 2013 suite:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher-help/repair-or-remove-office-HA010357402.aspx

If you have difficulties repairing Office 2013 due to corrupt installation files, then manually remove and re-install Office suite on the computer.

    Step 1:
Remove any previous version or trial copy of Office suite on the computer.
    1. Press the Windows + R key on the keyboard.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl in the Run command window - Click OK.

Note: Ensure you have the disc/download to re-install it if you need it in future.

    Step 2:
Follow the Method 1 to Remove any traces of Office 365/2013 suite
using the Microsoft Troubleshooter from the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

    Step 3:
Restart the computer in Clean Boot and check if you can send e-mails. Refer the article on How to restart the computer in Clean Boot:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting in clean boot, ensure you restart the computer in normal mode.

Login to www.office.com/myaccount with the same Live ID which was used to purchase Office 365 subscription and click
    Install Office.

I hope this article helps in installing Office 2013 suite. If you need further assistance, reply and we will be happy to help you.

    Thank You

    DB:3.17:Office 2000 With Publisher, Office 2010 Without Publisher 7p

Depends on how you do the install. Your 2010 license is a "full" license on it's own. 2010 no longer offers "upgrade" licenses based on having prior installation. So from a licensing point of view you are OK.
I would suggest you do a full parallel installation. The change to the 2010 "new improved" ribbon user interface is quite a culture shock. By keeping the old copy, you can fall back to it if you need to, just to "get work done" in a timely fashion. Later,
when you are comfortable with 2010 you can uninstall the old version.
During the 2010 install, select the "Custom" rather than "Standard" install. If you do the standard install, it will AUTOMATICALLY uninstall your older versions.
After the custom choice you will be offered an option to leave prior installations alone. Make sure it is turned on. During the install you are also given the option to change the installation location. When running parallel installations I like to put each
one in a separate folder, ie in this case I would change the defaultto "Office 2010" or "Office 14" There still will be some unavoidable overlap.
NOTE: The one application that you cannot have more than one installed copy of. That is Outlook
Here are a couple of articles telling how to do parallel installations. It is simple with just one process, a registry edit, that is more technical:

The fact that you see a reference to a Q: drive means you have the Click-to-Run version of Office. Among other ridiculous drawbacks, this version cannot be used to set default programs because the program files are "virtualized" -- meaning they don't exist

    DB:3.08:Office 365 Programs - Unable To Start Service. 7m

I have Office Home and Student 2010 and recently took the Office 365 upgrade.

After installing, programs such as Word and Excel ran without problem, however after some time (several hours or the next day), none of the programs would run. They do not get as far as showing a splash screen; if I use a process viewer the executable is seen
for 1-2 seconds and then dies.

I tried a fixit to uninstall then reinstall Offce 365 (twice!). Again it worked for a short while then none of them will run again. I have also tried running Word, Excel, etc., with /safe options. Note that the Office 2010 programs still run without problem.

Each time I run a program I see a log file in my temp directory, for example (filename and full contents):

    WINWORD.EXE_c2rdll(201304081018551564).log
2013/04/08 10:18:55:226::[3852] Unable to start service

This is driving me crazy :(

    DB:3.08:Office 365 Programs - Unable To Start Service. 7m

    Thanks for replying.

In the previous attaempts I don't think I saw Office 365 in programs and features, I removed it using a fixit.

OSSP was stopped, starting it made no difference.

I ran the fixit again to remove office 365 then did a clean boot. Office 2010 programs still worked (after an initial automatic configuration).

I then did a normal boot, no errors in the event log after booting.

After logging into myaccount, office 365 is was still shown as activated so I first deactivated it, then did a new install (64 bit). No errors in the event logs after installing and offce 365 was seen in programs and features.

Starting programs (for example Word/Excel 2013) from the start menu and from shortcuts I created worked OK the first time, no errors in the event logs.

For further testing I rebooted, no errors in the logs. Office 365 programs ran OK, no errors in the event log.

I then put the PC to sleep, no errors in the event logs after waking. Office 365 programs ran OK, no errors in the event logs.

I then left the PC for around 2 hours (which put itself to sleep after 1 hour. After waking there were no errors in the event logs, office 365 programs ran OK, no errors in the event logs.

I then left the PC overnight, after waking there were no errors in the event logs, office 365 programs ran OK, no errors in the event logs.

I then used Word and Excel several times and although there were no errors running the programs and no errors in the event logs; log files were still created in the tmp directory, however the logs files were empty this time. The created log files were names
    as above, for example WINWORD.EXE_c24dll(...).log.

At the moment (after almost 2 days), I can use office 365 programs without (as far as I can tell) any issues. It would be nice however if we knew why the empty log files were being created for a specific process and (I assume) DLL.

If the original problem returns and I cannot run any office 365 programs I will reply to this post.

    Thanks.

    Mark.

    DB:3.06:Office Click-To-Run 2010 Problems mm

I'm guessing you mean Office 2010 Starter (just Excel and Word with "advertising panes").

MS has dumped "click-to-run" on us without providing any help fixing it. I guess they assumed it would run with no problems .. guess again.

Your problem is slightly different than most. One of the "services" required isn't starting. Start services.msc using "run as administrator" (type services.msc in the Start menu search window, right click on services.msc and select "run as admin").

Scroll through the list of services to the AVC, right click on it
click on the "Dependencies" tabnote the entries in the first list.find each of the services and make sure they are all started,

You don't need a product key to "re-install" starter using the following techniques (since they aren't actual installs, just restores of backups with starter already activated).

The only other fixes I know of are:

Run Office Repairre-install using Office Program Managerre-install using Windows recovery partition

    Uninstall Starter (the “normal” uninstall)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980557

    · Note: if
uninstall of Click to Run Starter does not work:
    · Start run window: Win R

    · Start Services dialog: services.msc
    · Locate ‘Client Virtualization”
    · Right click, select Properties.
    · Set Startup type to disabled and Stop the service.
    · Repeat FIX IT from KB 290301

    Re-install Office Starter
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=e9a78c332557256fresid=E9A78C332557256F!212parid=E9A78C332557256F!132

Office 2010 Starter is only officially installed by computer builders. If you google skillfully, there are a few links to the installation files.
Home users do not have access to the installation file so there are only 3 options for “re-installing” it.

I have Office 2010 Home and Business on my computer and I'm going to get Office 2010 Academic edition for school. If I put it on my computer, will I have to uninstall Home and Business, or will it simply add the other two programs, Publisher and Access?

DB:3.05:Academic Edition Of Office 2010 aa

If you do a custom installation of Academic, the result will be TWO licenses for Office 2010 on your computer: the existing Office HB and the two component programs from Office Pro Academic.

I think Raju meant that the installation of only two applications from the Office Professional suite would still count as using one of the two Office Professional installations allowed by the license.

I bought a dell computer and it came with Microsoft Office Starter 2010. I bought Office professional plus separately. I installed it, but when I click on office 2010 in the start menu it asks me if 1.I already bought 2010 and to provide a cd key, 2.if I
want to buy office 2010, or if 3. I want to just use starter 2010. During the installation of professinal pro 2010 I provided the key and I'm worried that if I enter it again that it will count against my limited installations. However, I can search for Excel,
Word, powerpoint, OneNote etc. and they do show up. Their properties show that they are located in the start menu but they actually aren't there. I can open them. I don't know if I should enter the cd key and maybe that would fix the problem.
When I go to the add/remove programs list Office 2010 and Office 2010 Professional Plus show up, but only Office 2010 has a size entry and I can't find Professional plus anywhere else.

DB:3.05:I Installed Office Professional Plus 2010, But It Doesnt Show Up. But You Can Search And Find Word, Onenote, Etc. ms

At the bottom of the first para they say "I can open them". Maybe that was a typo, and they can't open the apps, I assuming what was written was correct. On the assumption that they could start apps from either Starter or Office Pro, I wanted to be sure
that they would perform the check on the Pro app since that is the one I wanted additional information about the installation.
As I said before, if Office Pro was installed as "Click to Run", the installation would not be

"normally" visible as installedon the PC but it would run. That is the whole "point" of CTR, and the source of many of the questions when people are not aware they have a CTR installation.

What happens when you try to open the applications?
Do you get any error messages?

Go to start-control panel-program and features-check if you have Office starter or Office trial 2010.
If its Office trial 2010, it might have got expired. To continue using the program you will have to install a full version.

If you have the disc and the product key for Office 2010, then you could do a repair of Office program and check the result.

Did you move the Outlook data file to C:\Windows location?

The default location were outlook 2010 creates data file is Documents\Outlook data files folder. Refer to the following link for more information regarding the same:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/where-does-microsoft-outlook-2010-save-my-information-and-configurations-HP010354943.aspx

You may try to run a repair and scan of Outlook data file and check.
Refer to the following article which discusses on ‘How to find and run the Inbox Repair tool in Outlook‘:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227

If issue still persists, then create a new outlook data file from control panel and set it as default. This will help you to open Outlook. Click Start- Control Panel- Mail. In the Mail setup-Outlook window Show Profiles. Ensure that you select the correct
Profile and then click on Properties. Back in the Mail setup-Outlook window click on Data files. Click on Add to create and add a new data file, after
which select the newly created data file and click on Set as Default and click on OK. Close all open Windows and then open Outlook. Once Outlook is open right click on the data file which is causing the issue and click on Close.

If you are trying to recover the data from the Outlook.pst file, then the following

Copy or move the Outlook.pst from the C:\windows location to desktop and then try importing the data into Outlook. Refer to the following link to import data from an outlook data file:

I want users to see only one Microsft office after deployment . I do not want to go to each person to delete the office 2007 from start programs. Any ideas

    DB:3.03:Office 2010 Deployment jj

Using the above suggestion, create a transform file.

In Office 2010, when you create a transform file using setup.exe /admin, you save it under the updates folder of the contents of the Office 2010 CD. You can also add all the other updates that you need to push out also under that folder.

When you are doing the deployment of the Office 2010, use a network resource and make sure everyone has read access. Use Everyone group instead of Domain Users as that will cause issues on authentication. When you select the image (XP or Windows 7), update the runonce to run the setup.exe from the network location. (if you need help with updating the Runonce for WinXP or Win7, let me know)

Regarding the Office 2007, you can say that in the transform file to remove previous versions of the Office so that users dont have to remove the icons.

    Hope it helps.

I had already run the sfc program. That was on my original list of things I tried. How to repair the recycle bin is new so I appreciate that but I decided there were too many things that seemed to have issues so I restored my computer using a disc image
I had created a week or two ago. Everything is working now. I still have some work to do to reinstall some programs that didn't come back but the other process was getting much to frustrating. Sometimes "brute force" is the only reasonable alternative. Thank

repair the installation with no effect. When I open setup to change the programs installed it indicates my Outlook 2010 program is "not available" to change.
