After fixing my settings and rebooting the TC8305C, the xbox was able to connect to the PC again. after plugging in a BEFSR41 wired router i was able to play xbox for a few days, then my MTU wasnt high enough, where can i find the settings to change the MTU?

    DB:3.31:Help With Mtu c3

To change the MTU on your Router. Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank in Password use admin in lower case...

Once login to the Router setup page, Below the Setup tab you will find MTU, which will be set to AUTO, so you need to change it to manual and change the size from 1500 to 1365 and click on Save Settings. Now try connecting your XBOX to your Router and check if you can drowse Internet.

Hi you need to DMZ the XBox and you may need to select and Static IP for the XBox.. But if you can reserve and IP for the XBOx then DMZ that IP and you should get an Open NAT in XBox live.. If you need to set a Static IP for the XBox pick an IP Outside the range of the Gateways DHCP Start End IP..

I have no idea why, and how, but for some reason, my Xbox Live, limewire, and starcraft (on the pc) are not working. It happened about two or three months ago, i tried port forwarding, and i asked this person on the internet. He gave me step by step directions, but i think somewhere in the line he got ahold of my IP address. I mean, i'm really sceptical, but this is what's been happening, and i cannot find any other reason of why this is happening, but if someone hacked into my ip adress and did something; I have been trying to make xbox live work for weeks now, since the new halo 3 has just come out. I really want to play on xbox live. but everytime i try and connect to live, (and test it too), it says the MTU operation failed. Now i checked on my router and researched on what MTU setting i should have it on, and i tried everything. From the default, to the maximum, to the recommended. None of the settings worked, to let my MTU not fail for xbox live. I have no idea if this connects to the port forwarding thing that i tried one or two months ago, but I didn't have that problem with my xbox live until after i did that. Same with my starcraft and limewire, my limewire will not download files(it comes up with a message that says you are connected but not fully connected), and in starcraft, it just wnot let me play on battle.net, or basically live. If anyone has any ideas on to why this is happening, please tell me. I have rebooted my router to factory settings 2 times, and that didnt do anything for me, i tried to directly connect it to my modem, that didnt work either.. Thank you all for the help.

Hey,I just purchased a wireless router and wireless xbox 360 adapter the other day. It wasn't TOO hard to set up and works fine with 360 games. When it comes to playing original xbox games, such as Halo 2 or Call of Duty 3 on xbox live, it will not connect.I figured the problem may be my modem, so I did a direct connection and it worked perfectly. I've tried opening ports and whatnot and it has had no effect. My MTU or whatever is "open" so that's not the issue. When wireless, my 360's dashboard can sign on live but it will not allow me to sign into xbox live via the original xbox game's menu.Microsoft's only answer is that my family settings are not allowing me to play original xbox games, but I do not have a 'child' account. Is this happening to anyone else? Are there any known solutions for this?thanks

and sadly, UpNp is already enabled

here's something strange I just noticed, it may or may not make a difference, BUT, my router set itself to "gateway" instead of "router" in the advanced routing tab. I tried setting it to router but that made both my cpu's internet and xbox's not work. Is this irrelevant to my issue though?

Make sure you are not using some oddball setting within the router's firewall that would cause such a problem. More often than not, MTU errors show up either when you have some odd settings in the router or you are routing over a bad path somewhere to Xbox Live.

I have had 4 interactions with comcast customer service so far with litte to mixed success.

I have a TC8305C. After the first interaction, the employee placed the router in bridge mode. After the TC8305C rebooted, the router was supposedly in bridge mode, but the units wireless access point was still active and my personal router was not able to obtain an IP address from the device.

On my second contact, cust serv attempted to push me to paid for support with out any trouble shooting.

On my third attempt, cust serv finally turned off the wireless setting, and tried to push me to paid support just after. After pleading to provide a reset signal, the device provided me with an 192.168.11.x IP address. Closer, but still not perfect, and all he wanted to do was push me to paid support.

On my forth attempt, this time by chat, the tech verified all my settings and I was finally able to obtain an external IP address. Things looked good.

At this point, I wanted to swtich from my old router, which I knew worked to a new router. I plugged in the new router and rebooted the TC8305C and no IP address was assigned at all. I copied the WAN side MAC of my old router to the new router, rebooted all, no luck. I placed my old router back onto the gateway, no luck. I plugged my computer directly into the gateway, and no luck.

Can someone please help me configure the TC8305C properly and have it present me an external I P address? And I would love for this to be stable after a reboot of the gateway as well.

    DB:2.88:Netgear Dg834g And Xbox 360 xs

    Hi there

Any help with the following would be greatly appreciated . . .

I'm using a DG834G wireless router/modem and my internet connection is and has been working fine (download speeds of 6mbs). Any other device connected to it wirelessly or hard wired works fine too. The problem is my son's Xbox . . .

He can't seem to play online games. The servers he connects to often time out. He sometimes (but not always) gets warnings saying the NAT settings on the Xbox are moderate or strict and he also has had a warning about the MTU rate. He can play one online game (Call of Duty 4) but the connection is slow and when he calls up a page showing the connected users his connection is often a little red dot while all the other players have four green bars. He gets this whether using a wireless connection or whether he's hooked up using an ethernet cable.

I've read an awful lot about DMZs, port forwarding and such like and I've tried just about everything. And nothing seems to affect the poor performance of the Xbox.

So I've concluded that I must be doing something stupid and hoped someone here might be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong!

    Here's what I've done so far . . .

Upgraded the router to the latest firmware: V5.01.14.

I've set up his Xbox to connect manually via a static IP address within the DHCP range specified in the router settings.

I've reserved an IP address on the router for the Xbox and assigned the Mac address of the Xbox to that IP.

I've ticked the box to Enable the DMZ and set this up as the IP the Xbox needs to connect to.

I've forwarded ports 88 and 3074 on the router and enabled the firewall rules to use those ports.

UPnP is switched to on as is Enable DHCP Server on the router.

I've switched the MTU to 1400 (after talking to a support rep at Netgear). The only other advice he gave was to open the ports as above.

PS In case it is relevant, my ISP is BT Broadband.

The Xbox is shown with the right Mac and IP address when I access the Attached Devices page on the router.

When I test the Xbox Live connection on the Xbox it often passes all the tests and says it is connected (with no MTU warnings and with no Nat warnings either) but then when I try to play an online game the servers are slow and unresponsive. For example, with 20,000 players online in Halo 3 it typically finds about 25 games with about 2 matches, starts to search for players and then says Network problem and starts searching all over again making the game totally unplayable online.

    Just a couple of points:

I spoke to BT (my ISP) and they refused to help me on the basis that I'm not using one of their approved routers. Support staff at Xbox cut me off (presumably because it was getting to complicated to sort out) and the support staff at Netgear suggested adjusting the MTU and opening the game ports (although no one could tell me what those ports were).

I also read the sticky by jmizoguchi at the top of this forum and I'll try a few of his tips but I'm a bit unsure about a couple of things:

How do I make sure the router is in bridge mode?

    How do I disable SPI?

Which firewall settings do I need to disable (the PC's or the routers)? I thought that was the reason for puting the Xbox into a DMZ in the first place?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty stumped now. Many thanks

The default MTU setting is 1500 for any Ethernet and Wireless connection made to the router. The DSL operates with a maximum MTU of 1492 which is still plenty for Xbox Live. There was a known issue which Verizon and Microsoft seemed to have solved according to a Verizon employee (I believe VZ_Anthony posted up about it), so if it is still not working for you, do the following:

1: Switch off your modem/router for a few minutes. Allow time for your IP address to be put back into Verizon's IP Pool.

2: Turn on your equipment and allow the Internet connection to return. You should have a new IP if you've waited long enough. Try Xbox Live.

3: If it's still not working try again or contact Verizon and see what they can do to solve it.

It works finewhen it's working but about once a day,it fails completely. When I lose connectivity, I can still access the UI at 10.0.0.1 and there are no adverse indications on the TC8305C, but I can't ping the gateway or DNS from my router. The only way I've been able to restore it has been to either reset the TC8305C through the UI or power cycle it.Once it's been reset, it will typically be fine for 12-24 hours, until the next failure. The SB5100 very rarely lost connection. Pertinent suggestions are welcome. (Impertinent ones, not so much...)

    Hey all,

I've got clean access up and running, and it's working great. I've got some students asking for game console internet access. I set up a role and filter for xbox as per the cca user guide, but the student's xbox (360 version I believe) fails with a MTU error. After a little research, the solution seems to be to change the MTU on the router (or clean access, or asa - I'm not really sure), but I'm not going to change MTU settings on multiple devices just so game consoles can get internet access.

Do you have your clean access system configure for game console access?

If so, did you have to do anything with MTU settings?

If you encountered MTU errors, but resolved it some other way, what was it?

My config involves this traffic flow: end user - clean access - asa - cisco router - internet.

    Thanks,

    Mike

DB:2.81:Clean Access And Game Consoles Mtu ff

Try connecting the console directly to the router which is connected to the internet and check if it works. If it works then you will only have to change the MTU size on the ASA. Another option will be to have the console connect directly to the internet bypassing the CCA.

I have the TC8305C and would like to use the Maximum Security firewall feature to disallow all inbound traffic, except for session traffic initiated from inside the firewall. When I do this we lose Xbox 360 access, as well as connectivity through our Verizon android phones. Wouldn't the session initiation from inside allow for connectivity from outside the firewall in this configuration? Are these entities using random ports, and initiating connections from outside?

I downgrade to Typical Security and have full connectivity, but external scanning indicates that there are many exploitable holes in this configuration.

Is there additional configuration that can be used on the TC8305C to allow for Maximum Security with connectivity for internal devices?

It might make sense for the router admin to be a "net nanny", limiting what his kids can do, or something like that. But "why would?" isn't the question, the question is "do they?". I have a "gateway", and I've seen the firewall settings for other "gateways", and the answer is that they *do* block outbound connections on the High and Medium settings. They've been known to block connections to standard email ports.

If I set it to medium or high I get 100% packet loss. My first question is how can I prevent the packet loss without having a low firewall setting, and could this also be causing my NAT type to be strict? My second question is I having been researching how to open ports for the xbox, and I believe I need to setup a Static IP? Do you have to have a wireless router connected to the TC8305C to enable a static IP? Any help with either topic would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

A recommended packet size of 1500 bytes is the norm. But any MTU value between 1400 and 1500 should suffice.

If you are not an experienced Network Gamer and are not sure about changing settings manually, leave this on automatic.

Then if I go tweaking I always make notes about what I've changed and when. Key is not to change too much all at one time and TAKE NOTES! Do research first, if in doubt. Default Interface MTU size in CRS-1 is - 1514 in GSR - 1500 bytes.

OSPF neighborship is coming up working fine in the below scenarios,

    · When both interfaces are left with the Default MTU settings (CRS tenGigE 0/0/2/0: 1514 bytes GSR GigabitEthernet2/1/0: 1500 bytes)

    · When CRS interface with 1570 bytes GSR interface with 1556

    OSPF is not working,

·When both interfaces are configured with equal MTU values

The same observation applies to ISIS also.

While configured with equal MTU (1556 bytes) in both side interfaces, we are getting the below errors

    ·CRS

·ospf[385]: Nbr 3.3.3.3 has larger interface MTU

    ·GSR

·OSPF: Nbr 30.30.30.30 has smaller interface MTU

The problem is resolved by using the "ip ospf mtu-ignore" command in interface configuration mode.

    Summary:

    Case -1

    - ISIS OSPF both down, when configured 1556 on both ends.

    Case - 2

    - When configured MTY 1556 in GSR 1570 in CRS, both ISIS OSPF.

    Case -3

    - When configured "mtu-ignore" OSPF is coming UP.

    - ISIS session remain down.

One more important thing is...Both OSPF ISIS coming up with default MTU settings ( 1500 on GSR 1514 on CRS)

It may be the normal behavior, but what's the justification for this default large MTU on CRS-1/(IOS-XR), (apart from positioning the box in the backbone core, hence default larger MTU size).

    Thanks!

DB:2.72:Default Mtu Size Between Crs-1/Ios-Xr And Gsr/7600 Is Different 3z

    Hi

MTU definition on IOS-XR includes the L2 header which is not the case in the IOS.

That's why on an ethernet type connection, you will have a difference of 14 Bytes (18 if Dot1.Q is configured). It also explains why it works with default settings and why it doesn't if you have same value on both side.

    HTH

    Laurent.

    Hi there,
I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem so I thought I'd post here. I have Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 running my home network as a gateway. I've managed to get most things working that I needed through the firewall but Xbox Live is killing me. For some reason I keep getting the same "MTU test failed" every time I try testing the Xbox Live connection. I have been through probably 10 or more documents explaining all the required settings. I have forwarded ports according to Microsoft's web site as well as verified that I am in fact getting the required MTU throughput. Apparently this MTU error is also a generic catch-all error message so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone could make some suggestions.

    Thanks for your help!

    DB:2.71:Firewall/Xbox Live xx

I just picked up a Xbox 360 over the holiday and also had issues getting it to coonect to Live through my Xserve(10.4.11 server)that I use as a gateway. When I opened the ports Live needed I also received MTU errors. Removing those port permissions caused the MTU issue to clear but then the Live login would fail. I attempted to run 'TheNATural' application but I still continued to fail at login.

After several days of trying different things I was finally able to connect to Live by doing the following. First in 'TheNATural', I set the Xbox's ip address in the space for a DMZ address. Then under Firewall in the Server Admin app, I selected 'allow all' for the 'any' ip address range. After doing this, my Xbox cleared the connection test.

Doing this isn't a final solution since this leaves your network wide open. I plan on working with this some more to see if I can lock down things more and still have a connection to Live. I would say just use my method if you want to test your connection.

My xbox was able to connect wirelessly to our home network for a few months. The xbox stopped working a couple weeks ago, and after numerous attempts at fixing it and playing with router settings, some computers began dying off as well and were being assigned 169 Ip Addresses. We ordered a new router from Verizon and all computers are currently working with Static Ip addresses, however, the Xbox is only able to receive internet when directly connected into a computer on the wireless network. However the connection is very slow and lags and drops a lot.

When assigned a static IP the xbox is able to connect to the network, and internet but stops working between the internet and xbox live phases. (Wireless) It displays errors on MTU, and says the ISP is not allowing it to connect to Xbox Live. The IP Address, Subnet, and Gateway are all manually entered and correct. I placed the DNS Servers as the routers IP address (192.168.1.1) and (4.4.4.4) The MTU on the router is at 1492 (was not working at 1500), ports are forwarded, and I put the Xbox's IP address in a DMZ. All of these attempts still have not fixed it.

Your modem may need to be bridged. If so you can go into your modems settings, find the url on the modem, and set the PPP to bridged. After wards you need to go back to the router and turn reguire a login to on, and put your isp login/pw in. Unplug the modem for 30sec and plug back in.

    Done.

Good post. One thing I'd like to point out though. If your Xbox gets a new IP address, via DHCP, after you've rebooted it, you'll need to reconfigure the Port forwarding.

One way around this is to configure a static IP address in the Xbox.

    Larry -

Call 1-800-COMCAST and ask the associate to put your TC8305C gateway into "FULL BRIDGE MODE." This turns your gateway into a standard cable modem, like the one you used to have. Then plug your D-Link router into the #1 Ethernet Port (The other 3 ports are now inactive.) You should be all set.

Seen many posts on this issue but have to do 1 more. Been trying for days to get our xbox connected using a wired connection. Have a new WRT100 router connected to a cable modem (Charter). Have connected a PC to the same cable the xbox is using and have no issues at all (connection or speed). So the issue is just xbox related. After trying many things here is what I have configured:XBox 360:IP - staticDNS - staticPPPeE - Not SetAdvanced settings - Not SetWRT100 Settings:DHCP Reservation - matches the static IP on xbox (thought I couldset the xbox todynamic and let the router just assign the IP I reservedbut never passes test with just setting reservation in router. Set static in xbox and it passes IP test)MTU - Currently set to 1365 (have tried various options with no success)Application Gaming - Ports 88 3074 open for both protocolsHaveexperimented withopening IP in DMZ but makes no differenceFirmware version 1.0.00 build 50

Finally pass the IP and DNS tests with some regularity (though does fail DNS more than 1/2 the time).Never passes the MTU testDoes the WRT100 router work with an XBox??? Any help appreciated!

DB:2.70:Wrt100 Xbox Fails To Connect 9m

My issue is fixed, kind of. After all the things I tried I finally just bought a new 50 foot ethernet cable and connected it directly from the XBox in to the WRT100 router. Everything passed immediatly and have had no issue since then. Of course, I now have a 50 foot cable stretched out across the home theater area and home office.Don't understand why my laptop works fine with the original connection that is wired behind the walls (making it impossible to replace). I did buy an ethernet connection tester to see if possibly when terminated wires got crossed. I have 4 connections there and none worked. But the same person terminated the ends behind the xBox. I did the ends by router and know I did it right. Maybe their crossed and the laptop can figure it out but xbox can't???

Now if only my connection to my house was a T3...Please reply with any enhancements to this if you know of any!(and with this setup (port forwarding), will the linksys prioritizer (part number OGV200)provide any more benefit?1. Assign static IP, subnet mask, gateway and DNS on the Xbox 360.
    a) Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard.
    b) Select Network Settings.
    c) Select Edit Settings to adjust your:

    IP Settings (IP Address = 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway = 192.168.1.1)

    a) Access the router's web-based setup page and click on Applications and Gaming tab.
    b) Under Port Range Forwarding sub tab, we will enter two entries for us to forward the two ports.

    First Entry
    Name = Xboxa
    Start = 88
    End = 88
    Protocol = UDP

    Start = 3074
    End = 3074
    Protocol = Both
    IP Address = 192.168.1.20
    Enabled = Checked
    c) Save the settings.
    3. Still on the router's web-based setup page, click on Setup tab.
    a) Set MTU from Auto to Manual.
    b) Change the MTU size from 1500 (default) to 1365.
    c) Scroll down and save the settings.

    4. Power cycle. Unplug the power adapter of the router for 10 seconds and plug it back again.
    5. On your Xbox 360:
    a) Go back to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard.
    b) Select Network Settings.
    c) Select Test Xbox Live Connection.
    d) After the system has completed its tests, select More Info to learn more about your network, paying close attention to any test that failed.

You should not change your MTU settings as it can casuse some majorissues.

MTU problems cancause severe lags in network logon times, cause email attachments and other functions to fail, and cause applications to stop functioning entirely.

A higher MTU brings higher bandwidth efficiency. However, large packets can block up a slow interface for some time, increasing thelag for further packets, a 1500 byte packet, the largest allowed by Ethernet at the network layer.

It is advised that you should only change your MTU settings when told by you ISP.

I have a wireless gaming adapter (WGA54G) hooked up to the XBOX 360 that then receives wireless internet from my router (WRT160N). I have all of the neccessary ports open on the router, the usual 88 UDP, 3074 Both. I also have the DMZ forwarded to the WGA54G's IP address which i have on DHCP reservation. Those previous ports are also forwarded to the gaming adapters IP address. UPnP is enabled and my MTU is set at 1365. The XBOX 360 is setup to automatically setup its IP address and DNS settings. Even after all of these settings the NAT type is still strict. Do you have any setup advice?

I've had this particular Xbox 360 hardwired to another (Netgear) router which I just replaced with a shiny new WNDR3700 which reports the following:Hardware Version WNDR3700

    Firmware Version V1.0.4.68NA

GUI Language Version V1.0.0.42I have verified that the cable is fine (it never changed, so it should be) and tried both DHCP and Hard Coded (static) IP configurations on the Xbox. In Both situations, Xbox fails the initial connectivity test. The REALLY STRANGE THING is that in both situations the Netgear doesn't even show the Xbox in the Attached Devices table. I know the MAC address, so I can verify that isn't there; WITH ANY IP ADDRESS?!?!

I have tried other ports on the router, to rule out a bum port. Which ever port the Xbox is plugged into, is yellow which is expected due to the speed of the Xbox port.

So first-things-first (before I even venture out into the myriad of MTU, NAT and other settings for external connectivity), How come my new router doesn't even see the Xbox?!?!?

When I contact tech support they tell me to power cycle the modem, but it's just a temp fix that doesn't last long and the last rep that I spoke to said the issue is because I can have only 1 hard wire and 1 wifi device connected, which I know is not true because it was working fine with multiple devices before the update.

Hello everyone, I have pretty complicated situation with my xbox 360 and linksys router. I have Linksys WRT54G Version 2 router. I running Firmware Version: v4.21.1, Nov. 6, 2006. I have my xbox wired to port 1 on my router, and my pc is connected by wireless card. Here is the problem, I can log into xbox live while connected to the router. I can play games and send text messages without any problems. However I cannot talk to certain people on my headset, one being a friend who I play with all the time. If I connect my modem directly to my xbox, I can chat with the headset. When I run the xbox live test connection, the test fails at MTU. I got on my router settings and my MTU is 1365. I have increased it, decreased it, and set it to auto, and it still fails the test. I went to security and unchecked the check box for Block Anonymous Internet Requests. Still cannot chat or pass xbox live chat. I have opened up my gaming ports: 88 to 88 UDP 192.168.1.101 3074 to 3074 UDP 192.168.1.101 3074 to 3074 TCP 192.168.1.101 Still effect. I don't know what else to do. My friends NAT is set to open. so it must not be him. I really would like to resolve this problem. Its funny though because I cannot pass the test, yet I can still log in and play online games, text, send voice message, and ect. I just can't chat on headset to certain people. I can chat to some one my head set though. I know it sounds weird but that is what happening. Any help would be appreciated.

In order to do that, i need to standardize the IP addresses to either 10.0.0.x or 192.168.1.x. My question is whether its possible to change the TC8350C to 192.168.1.1 or not. I would then name my other gateways as .2 and .3 respectively and let the TC8350C hand out addresses begining with .4. Please advise. thanks

You are leaving the username blank and entering only the password? If that doesnt work you can reset the router by pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds. Wait about a minute the go to http://192.168.1.1 and enter admin for password. The router will have to be reconfigured again because a reset returns it back to factory settings.

Okay, I have read just about every thread in here concerning the known issues. I just bought this wireless adapter and I either can't get past the IP Address or DNS on the tests. I changed the MTU to 1365. I input the static IP address on the xbox. I changed the subnet mask. I did the primary and secondary DNS settings to the suggested ones as well as the ones given on my computer. I have downloaded the lastest firmware. I went to port forwarding and start and ended with 88 on app 1 and start and ended with 3074 on app 2. Both are directed to the same static IP address set on the xbox 360. None of this has worked. When I change to automatic on the IP settings, it will confirm the IP address, but gets hung uo on the DNS settings. I then do automatic on it, and it goes back to getting hung up on the IP address. This has gone on for 2 days and I am about to do away with the router and the xbox wireless adapter. From reading all the issues and threads, it appears to be a router issue that is known. Please help me try to solve this issue. Thanks!

I was able to get it to work, but I had to disable my WEP security. This is the only way. Do you know why this would be a problem? I am entering the correct code in xbox 360 when trying to connect.

Also, my xbox is connected to the home network through a belkin router. But we get internet through the wrt54g. now i know xbox live isnt down and i know you can manually change the mtu online and with a disk. I have tried both the disk repeats step 8 and no username or password will work for the internet. Someone else configured my router so i dont know if they changed the username and password but i dont think they did. Is there any way to change the username and password. Please help me. I bought a Motorola SBG6580 Gateway today, it's a modem and router combination. After I installed it, I went on to my Xbox to test its connection. I received an error stating that my network does not have sufficient MTU. I quickly went and logged into my gateway to change the settings. After I switched my MTU to 1500, I restarted it and tested the connection again... same error.

I had my Comcast service installed today, could that be the reason? Could I have a bought a bad modem/router?

DB:2.61:Insufficient Mtu - Xbox Live kz

You might consider getting the modem upgraded, I assume it's your old modem? It's an older DOCSIS 2 model and while it will work just fine, it's not capable of the higher speed tiers, and has no channel bonding or failover capability. DOCSIS 3 models have all these capabilities.

When you swapped the gateway out and put in the 5101, it needed to be registered, which is why you got the activation page. Why it worked for a time beforehand is mystery, but if modem was previosuly used on this connection, there might have been some residual info at the CMTS end to make it work for a time.

Glad you got things up and running. Go frag something...

I was just curious; on the airport admin utility it lets me choose between using 10.0.1.1 addressing and 192.168.1.1 addressing under the network tab... What's the difference?

I use an airport extreme as a router. I was connecting my xbox 360 via the airport with no problems at all; then tonight it stopped working out of nowhere. It says its a problem with the MTU settings but I havent changed anything; and my MTU settings are default for 1500 (above the required amount for xbox live). My xbox live /airport settings are set to automatic; using the 10.0.1.1 addressing. Ive seen other users however talk about using 192.168.1.1 for their connections and was just curious if it might screw something up if I switched my settings to 192.168.1.1.

    DB:2.61:Using 10.0.1.1 Vs 192.168.1.1 Addressing cd

you could also change you mask to 255.255.0.0 if you really don't want to have to sperate subnets.

Not really sure how that would change the situation.

When you use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 it means that devices are on the same subnet if the first3numbers of the IP address match.

When you use a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 it means that devices are on the same subnet if the first2numbers of the IP address match.

So changing the subnet mask like that doesn't eliminate the possibility of subnets.

    Hi

I am not able to connect my xbox360 wireless adapter to my wireless router Linksys(WRT54GS) No matter what settings I try the IP test fails.

I have serveral computers on my wireless network and all can access the internet with static and or DHCP enabled.
I have the MTU set to 1365. The WEP key is correct cause it does connect and passes that test. The signal strenght is full cause it's right beside the router.

In the xbox i have tried static IP and DNS and Automatic but it fails on both IP tests.

This is what happens when I set it for Automatic in the xbox and DHCP in the router:
The xbox grabs 169.254.116.18 255.255.0.0 no gateway and no DNS (every single time)
Yet my network is 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

When I set it for static IP in the router and xbox - It just fails the IP test everytime.

When I plug the ethernet cable from the router into the xbox it will grab the correct IP and it works with both DHCP and static IP. The problem is I want the xbox in another room and don't want the cable running all over the house. Hence the wireless adaptor.

Any ideas? Has anyone had this issue before?

well..as you are getting 169.254.x.x ip add for the wireless connection .. i believe the WEP key is the issue here.... check it once and let me know if this is the problem

Yep, I captured a DV movie. Exported the QT reference file at current settings, then dropped them into compressor.

I wouldn't think you'd need to transcode in FCP, but maybe that is a workaround.

Heck, do the transcode in compressor, chain the jobs, and see if it works that way.

Alright so im currently using the Wireless Gateway TC8305C and am having issues with my xbox 360 console. I'm using an ethernet cable connection since im using an older xbox console which doesn't have built in wifi. Before I had the gateway I was having no issues with my modem/router setup. I can be playing a game and will randomly get disconnected and I would have to restart my console. This has been going on now for about a month and it is quite frustrating. If there is anyway to fix this I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

no luck with the port forwarding/static ip setup. still getting frequent disconnects. cant finish but maybe 1 round, next game disconnects. then reconnects right away.. try to join a game... disconnects.

Pretty much givin up on this modem/router combo. All over the comcast boards i see how much of a pain it is for everyone. Frequent disconnects, terrible wireless speed...etc.

    DB:2.61:New Tc8305c Modem/Router Seems To Be Working But...... 39

Comcast had to send me the TC8305C modem/router to replace a much older modem they game me many years ago. I was thinking they were just going to send me a modem, but they sent me this combo modem/router instead.

I already have a router, am happy with it, and don't want to use the router function of this new TC8305C. I just want it to work as a modem. I read the instructions and it says to contact Comcast about "bridge mode" on the TC8305C. So here I am.

But let me say this first.......I activated the TC8305C modem by hardwiring it to one of my computers. Once it activated, I plugged the CAT5 cable from the TC8305C into my Linksys N900 and my network *appears* to be working OK through the N900. But I'm still showing this TC8305C netowrk as available (HOME-DE0C) for connection, and I'm guessing that someone could connect to my network through this HOME-DE0C network and get into my system and that would be bad. I'm also guessing that connecting my N900 router to the TC8305C router is messing something up, too, and I simply haven't "discovered" this yet?

So how do I shut off the router function of this TC8305C so that I can just use my N900?

    Thanks for your time.

I can connect to the internet just fine on all my other devices but for some reason the XBOX 360 does not want to connect. It is able to see my network just fine and I am able to connect to the network but nothing beyond that. I've checked for possible sources of interference but have found nothing.

I see a lot of posts about guys adjusting MTU settings on the AP. What exactly is the MTU setting? Are you making adjustments on the AP and on the Client? What settings have you used that work the best? Thanks for the help

    DB:2.60:Mtu Setting 3m

Dr, thanks for the reply. I have been reading up on it a bit more. The reason I asked was I have seen some threads talk about lowering the MTU specifically with the 900mhz equipment and it making a difference in throughput. The other area I have seen people make adjustments in is the RTS threshold. I admit I'm not a wizard at these things and I tend to leave things alone if they are not broke. However, in the 900mhz range it would be nice to squeeze at as much speed as possible while still maintaining a solid link. Thanks
