DB:4.23:Exact Phrase Search In Full Text Search pc

hi,   can i do exact phrase search in full text search. bcs it automatically removes noise words(is, are etc.) from our query.

DB:4.23:Exact Phrase Search In Full Text Search pc

I have been playing around with full text indexing for about a month to figure it all out.

    Heres what i do.

I created an array in C# that contains all noise words.

When a user performs a  search for All words or Any words in our user interface I strip out all of the noisewords before submitting the query to sql server.

If a user performs an exact phrase search i leave the noise words in place. You have to or else sql server will not return correct results.

Getting this to work was not simple at all. It was far from one line of code.  I have c# code to strip noise words and my stored procedure is full of parsing code which grabs each word the user searches for and appends AND or  OR if or quotes or wildcards if needed.

It was a huge mess to get to work but it is up and running well.
I hope this offers some small help to you.

Rule of thumb...leave the noise words in on exact phrase searches otherwise..strip them out.

Is there any way to use full-text search conditionally? For example, I have a query:

    Code Snippet

    DB:4.11:Conditional Full-Text Search 9f

    Hi Zhuravl,

As said by Jean, you can use top_n_by_rank to limit resultset. This is in the BOL:

Limiting Result Sets to Return the Most Relevant Results

In many full-text queries, the number of items matching the search condition is very large. To prevent queries from returning too many matches, use the optional argument, top_n_by_rank, in CONTAINSTABLE and FREETEXTTABLE to specify the number of matches according to rank you want returned.

    Note:
Using the top_n_by_rank argument returns a subset of rows that satisfy the full-text query. If top_n_by_rank is combined with other predicates, the query could return fewer rows than the number of rows that actually match all the predicates. With this information, Microsoft SQL Server orders the matches by rank and returns only up to the specified number. This choice can result in a dramatic increase in performance. For example, a query that would normally return 100,000 rows from a table of one million rows are processed more quickly if only the top 100 rows are requested.

If you want only the top 3 matches returned on an earlier example using CONTAINSTABLE, the query looks like the following:
USE Northwind; GO SELECT K.RANK, CompanyName, ContactName, Address FROM Customers AS C INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Customers,Address, 'ISABOUT (des*, Rue WEIGHT(0.5), Bouchers WEIGHT(0.9))', 3) AS K ON C.CustomerID = K.[KEY]; GO

    Here is the result set:
RANK CompanyName ContactName address ---- ------------ ----------- ------- 123 Bon app' Laurence Lebihan 12, rue des Bouchers 65 Du monde entier Janine Labrune 67, rue des Cinquante Otages 15 France restauration Carine Schmitt 54, rue Royale

This example returns the description and category name of the top 10 food categories where the Description column contains the words sweet and savory near either the word sauces or the word candies.

SELECT FT_TBL.Description, FT_TBL.CategoryName, KEY_TBL.RANK FROM Categories AS FT_TBL INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE (Categories, Description, '(sweet and savory NEAR sauces) OR (sweet and savory NEAR candies)' , 10 ) AS KEY_TBL ON FT_TBL.CategoryID = KEY_TBL.[KEY]; GO

If he doesn't have access, the file won't show up in the search results and even a short summary won't be displayed. This way, information will be disclosed.

    DB:3.98:Enabling Fulltext??? 18

A fulltext index indexes the properties and content files associated with objects ofSysObjects and SysObject subtypes and, optionally, lightweight objects. All properties of SysObject and SysObject subtype objects are indexed automatically. If any indexed object has an associated content file, the content file is also indexed if the a_full_text property of the object is set to TRUE and the format of the content file is indexable. Content files in all storage areas are indexed. If you install the fulltext indexing system with grammatical normalization enabled, the index will contain normalized entries for terms within the documents also.Query through DA:select * from dmi_queue_item where name like 'dm_fulltext_index_user'This will give you how many items are queued - if not processed. If you are not sure of what has and what has not been indexed, then purge the queue, create an an agent in migration mode and let it reindex the entire repository. Once done, delete the agent and re-setup the agent in normal mode.CheersSumeet

I want to know how can you configure the simple Search to search on Webtop to search a cabinet or folder by default?

DB:3.74:How To Set Full Text Simple Search A Folder By Default? 1z

Works great! If you want to stick with each word in the text field being used to perform a full text search, then you have to parse each word, and add them to a full text DQL query. For instance, if someone enters the words "test words" into the simple search text field, then under covers, Webtop is building the following query to perform a full text search:select ALL owner_name, r_object_id, a_content_type, r_object_type, r_modify_date, i_is_reference, r_link_cnt, score, i_vstamp, r_is_virtual_doc, r_content_size, r_lock_owner, r_version_label, object_name from dm_document search topic 'ACCRUE("*test*")("*words*")'So, I wrote some Javascript to build a variation of this base DQL query and sent that as the "strValue" in the javascript command postComponentJumpEvent(null, "search", "content", "queryType", "DQL", "query", strValue)Have fun!

    Hi NeerajSaini,
No, and I believe there wont be such a tool. :) Actually, we use T-SQL to perform SQL Server Full-Text Search.
A Full-text query performs linguistic searches against text data by operating on words and phrases. It's is word and phrase-based. We usually compare full-text search with LIKE.
Which version of SQL Server are you using, SQL Server 2005, 2008 or 2008 R2? You can find lots of links about how to use SQL Server Full-Text Search, for example:

    Hi Netpros,

when searching through the event log in CSA MC 5.2 we get the message that sql full text search is not installed.

Did not find any info on how to do this other than under "maintenance - database maintenance - full-text search":

    ---

SQL Server FullText Search service installed: No

SQL Server FullText Search service started: No

Full-text indexing enabled for database csamc52: No

Event table full-text indexing enabled: No

Auto-update of event full-text index enabled: No

    Summary:

    Full-text indexing enabled: No

    Recommendations:

    - install SQL Server FullText Search service (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services or above needed).

    ---

How do i install the advanced services? Is it possible? Is it worth it? - I mean so far I found anything I was searching for?!

    Thanks

    Hi Juergen,

I did not see an option to install the full text search when I did a manual install of SQL Express 2005 (but it says it's supported).

I just installed a new MC with SQL Server 2005 full version and fulltext search but haven't had a chance to see what difference it makes.

There is some info in the help file about what it can do.

Spotlight works hand-in-hand with built-in metadata functionality (mdimport, as an example, under OS X). Whenever a file is written to disk, a special program is run that reads the file, adds metadata about it to the file system, and updates a special "index". When you start typing in Spotlight menu, Spotlight searches this index. On the iPhone, this means searching across the index (filtering out mismatches) that represents installed apps, as an example, but not going down into app contents and/or documents that exist as part of those apps individually.

Simply put, as currently relates to the iPhone OS, I believe you'll only find the functionality you seem to want by server-side indexing and searching (match/like/etc).

    Hi,
I want to do case sensitive search with Full text search feature of SQL server 2005. I am using FREETEXT keyword to do the searching, but bydefault it is case in-sensitive.
    Thanks in advance.

DB:3.72:Case Sensitive Search With Full Text Search In Sql Server 2005 8k

Yes, full text searching is purposefully case insensitive. The only switch you have on 'sensitivity' is for ACCENT_SENSITIVITY. Also FREETEXT matches are generated if any term or the forms of any term is found in the full-text index.
If you want more precise (but not case sensitive) searches, use CONTAINS instead of FREETEXT. If you need Case Sensitive searches, you will need to augment your full text search with a string compare, such as:
    SELECT *
    FROM MyTable
    WHERE FREETEXT(Document, 'deLaTorre')
    AND DocumentCOLLATE Latin1_General_CS_AS LIKE '%deLaTorre%'

what's the difference between the Concept Recognition Search and Full Text Search in CIS? Thanks,Prabhakar P.

    DB:3.72:Concept Recognition x3

Hello,Full Text Search looks for terms that you provide in the Search box, in the content available in the repository. It is similar to GOOGLE search. To have this functionality, you need to install FTI and the content available in the repository have to be INDEXED by the FTI engine, otherwise it won't be returned in the search result.Concept Recognition Search is performed by CIS. This is more like FULL TEXT search. The difference is FTI is not needed. The content need not be indexed. And will look only for the TERMS that is specified the in the taxonomy/categories properties. ie) the keywords are pre-defined in the case of Concept Recognition Search, where as in Full Text search the keyords are dynamic..Hope this helps.....Regards, Karthik

how can i store pdf file in sql database tables and search them whit full-text

    DB:3.71:Full-Text Search Pdf File dk

mehran rajaei, It's easiest to approach the two parts of your question separately: storage and searching. Before you'll be able to get satisfactory results from a search process, you'll need to run the PDF through a decoding process. The PDF file format is actually published, so you *can* write one of these yourself (be aware of Adobe's royalty/licensing that may, or may not, apply to your case). But, I'd suggest just using an existing one. There are several of these available including some that are Open Source. Once your PDF has been decoded, you'll have a text-based file in your hands that is now searchable. Some products will break a PDF down into raw text (like the RTF format), and some will actually yield an XML document. It's up to you to determine the best route for your particular needs. If you're going to stuff the whole file into the database, the Large Text (or your DB Flavor's equivalent) might work for you assuming you iron out the size constraints. Most of the enterprise-class databases have text-search built in; if not then you'll need to write a stored procedured to perform the task. While we're on the subject of Stored Procedures, you could easily write an SP that deals directly with the PDF file itself  as it sits in the filesystem (without going the process of stuffing it into the database). To do that, use one of the Open Source products that can grep the raw PDF file. Your SP could run the external  Grep search, and pass back the results (ie, the files containing search hits) as BLOBS (binary large objects)....Or, better yet, if you're doing this as a web-based application, your SP search could simply hand the recordset results (PDF filenames) off to your servlet/asp/cgi/etc...

BOL article: Full-Text Search (SQL Server)
    SQL Server 2012
Full-Text Search in SQL Server lets users and applications run full-text queries against character-based data in SQL Server tables. Before you can run full-text queries on a table, the database
administrator must create a full-text index on the table. The full-text index includes one or more character-based columns in the table. These columns can have any of the following data types: char, varchar, nchar, nvarchar, text, ntext, image, xml, or varbinary(max)
and FILESTREAM. Each full-text index indexes one or more columns from the table, and each column can use a specific language.
Full-text queries perform linguistic searches against text data in full-text indexes by operating on words and phrases based on rules of a particular language such as English or Japanese. Full-text
queries can include simple words and phrases or multiple forms of a word or phrase. A full-text query returns any documents that contain at least one match (also known as a hit). A match occurs when a target document contains all the terms specified in the
full-text query, and meets any other search conditions, such as the distance between the matching terms.

The later constraint is came from the current limitation that index could not be created on a indexed view w/ text/ntext/image/xml, but fulltext column need a primary index to work on. DB:3.70:Disable 5.3 Full Text Search zk

Is there any way to temporarily disable the full text search from the Advanced Search screen in 5.3 SP1? We would like to do a regular database search using the document properties instead of going against the Full Text index because the index is being rebuilt (a lot of documents). Right now, because we have the Full Text Engine installed, all searches always go against the index.

DB:3.70:Disable 5.3 Full Text Search zk

That's not really an option because we've already done some customizations that extend the 5.3 search components. Also, I just want to do this temporarily so some users can test some imported data while the index is being rebuilt.

I have installed and configured full-text indexing for Content Server 5.3 SP1, but can not find any option for full-text indexing in webtop Advanced Search. How can I do full-text search?

    DB:3.70:How To Use Full-Text Indexing? 9c

You can just search on the word and the document(s) that contains the word will be returned. No options have to be selected in the advanced search. You can just search for the word in the WebTop search textbox. If it doesn't work run the dm_FTCreateEvents job in full re-index mode to re-index the repository again. Reindexing the repository does not require deleting the existing index.

    Hi,
I am trying to perform full-text search on tableset which can look like this:

DB:3.67:Full-Text Search Within Few Tables 19

To return newYorkers when you do a search on NYC you will need to use the thesaurus option. Here is a way to get around
    select Person.ID, [RANK]
    from Person join
    (
    select ft1.[key] as ID , ft1.RANK from freetexttable(Person,(Firstname,Lastname), @searchKey) ft1
    union
    select Person.ID as ID, ft2.RANK from freetexttable(Address,(City,Street), @searchKey) ft2 join [Address] on [Address].ID=ft2.[key]
    join Person on Person.AddressID=Address.ID
    ) as k on k.ID=Person.ID

your first problem.Your ranking might be skewed though.  If this is a problem you might want to try this.
    select Person.ID, Rank=sum([RANK])
    from Person join
    (
    select ft1.[key] as ID , ft1.RANK from freetexttable(Person,(Firstname,Lastname), @searchKey) ft1
    union all
    select Person.ID as ID, ft2.RANK from freetexttable(Address,(City,Street), @searchKey) ft2 join [Address] on [Address].ID=ft2.[key]
    join Person on Person.AddressID=Address.ID
    ) as k on k.ID=Person.ID
    group by Person.ID

DB:3.63:Performance Of Full Text Index And Normal Documentum Search 1p

If full text index is not installed then how is performance of search for huge number of documents nearly 5 million documents? If you don't install FAST, then all your queries will be issued against the database. Searches on metadata could be slow if you don't have the tables indexed or search against fields that require full table scans. Can someone tell me how is the performance of Full Text Index if the data is huge nearly 5TB and content is not indexed? Are you saying you would install FT, but only have it index metadata (not content)? In this case the 5TB of content is irrelevant. So the question really is how would FAST handle the metadata of 5 million objects...probably better in the general case than the database simply because performance isn't so highly dependent on which fields you are looking through. Also can we index Register tables so that while searching full text will also search the register tables? No, registered tables are not indexed, only docbase objects. But, you could explore creating objects with no supertype to represent the values in your registered tables.

    DB:3.59:Fts? az

Detailed informaiton on Full Text Search can be found in Chapter 12 of the Configuration Guide:

BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.5.00 Configuration Guide 16-Jan-2009PDF

Full text search (FTS) is an important and useful feature of AR System. FTS istypically much faster than using the native database searching functionality whensearching in long text fields. It is also the only method available in AR System forsearching text within attached documents.

An example of using FTS is that you can make use of your knowledge base. Youcan access your companys history of solving problems, which are sometimesstored in long text fields or attachments. With the FTS option, you can easily searchthrough long text fields to find solutions to related problems.

FTS solves many problems that users encounter when performing databasesearches, including:

Searching long text and attachment fields. The FTS option enables you to index character, diary, and attachment fields for searching, and then matches entries from those fields against the search criteria you specify. Like database indexes, an FTS index can greatly decrease the time required for a database search.Improving search performance by searching large volumes of data.Defining how the server interprets wildcards to customize search performance to your specific needs.Performing case-insensitive searches. Administrators can enable or disable case sensitivity.Ranking search results according to their relevance to the search criteria. The more relevant a search result is, the higher the weight assigned to it will be.
