DB:4.07:Exchange 2013 - Error The Migration Mailbox For The Organization Is Either Missing Or Invalid fk

Here is what I have had to do after a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. The MS documentation I was following referred only moving the MS Exchange System Mailbox (SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9})
and none of the others. Luckily, I still had the Exchange 2010 box running.
    Run:
    Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | FL Name,DisplayName,ServerName,Database,AdminDisplayVersion
This showed, even after running /PrepareAD early in the migration process, I still had couple of arbitration mailboxes left on the old Exchange 2010 server clearly identifiable by the AdminDisplayVersion: Version 14.3. Namely, theMicrosoft
Exchange Approval Assistant and the Microsoft Exchange Federation Mailbox.

I simply ran commands below to move the two mailboxes on to the new server:

All five Arbitration mailboxes were now on the new Exchnage 2013 server.

    Hi,
I hope you mailboxenabled the two arbitration mailboxes as I wrote in my previous post.

If you didn't...you will have problems with your OAB(s) in EX13 and you will not be able to create migrationbatches in EAC.

DB:3.35:New-Moverequest - Delegate Only Required Permisisons? sm

To move a mailbox, the required roles are Organization Management and Recipient Management. Is there any way to use RBAC to create a custom role that can move mailboxes without granting Organization Management? The enviroment is Exchange 2010
SP2 and a cross forest mailbox migration. I tried granting roles of mail recipients, migration, and move mailboxes; but the move fails with access denied. It works fine if I use an account wth Organization Management rights.

    Hi,Wallst,
You can customize the role group and specify the scope of role assignment to minimize the permission of the RBAC role according to your requirements.

    DB:3.21:Transporter Issue - Migrating Mailboxes 9x

    Hello,

Our company is currently in the migration process from Domino 6.5.5 to Exchange 2007.  I've got the Exchange Server setup, got the Transporter tool setup, I was able to connect a domino user with active directory, but when I go to migrate the mailbox I get the following error:

Could not retrieve E12 webservice url

Looked in the documentation and found that if you get this message you need to goto the Transporter Command Shell and add the -ClientAccessServer parameter.  Come to find out this parameter doesn't exist and you need to use -TargetClientAccessServer instead.

Well I input the following command (copied from the GUI and added the new parameter) and got the subsequent result:

    'CN=Username/O=Organization' | move-dominomailbox -Quiet -DominoDirectoryServer $null -DomainController $null -TargetMailboxDatabase 'ExchangeServer\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database' -TargetMode 'Merge' -TargetClientAccessServer 'ExchangeServer'

Move-DominoMailbox : The input object cannot be bound to any parameters for the command either because the command does not take pipeline input or the input and its properties do not match any of the parameters that take pipline input.  At line:1 char:48

I should probably say I'm a complete noob to the Exchange platform and hopefully there's just a simple syntax error in my command.  I would appreciate any help on this.

I need to setup a Journaling mailbox for my organization. I have 3 mailbox databases for my users. I've setup a completely separate database for the Journaling, with only the Journaling mailbox in it.

    My question:
Is this the right way to set this up? I've read that you have to do journaling pointed at each database, but is it possible for all of that to filter over to the single Journaling mailbox, or do I need a separate Journaling mailbox for each user database?

    DB:3.21:Journaling Mailbox Question 9m

Thanks for the answers Mark. Also, for the thinking points for moving forward. Hopefully, the entire migration won't take us more than a couple of weeks, but that will depend entirely on the bandwidth for migrations. Once everyone is up
in the cloud, all the on-prem stuff will go away.

DB:3.21:Exchange 2010 Sp1 Hosting: Creation Of Mailbox On A Particular Mailbox Database On A Specific Server pz

    Hi,
Assuming i have 2 mailbox servers within an exchange 2010 sp1 hosting setup called MBServerA (mailbox database called DB01) and MBServerB (mailbox database called DB02). How do i specify that an organization should have mailbox created in MBServerA - DB01?

In addition, is it also possible that we specify for New mailboxes created for a particular organization - the mailboxes should be created in MBServerB - DB02?

    Many thanks.

DB:3.21:Exchange 2010 Sp1 Hosting: Creation Of Mailbox On A Particular Mailbox Database On A Specific Server pz

    Basically, you have two options:
    (1) Exclude databases from automatic mailbox distribution on a temporary or permanent basis
    (2) Use database scopes to select databases for mailbox distribution
Assuming there are different administrators who create mailboxes, you can configure scopes. A scope will restrict which databases can be used by certain sets of administrators. Thereby you would achieve your goal.

    Hi ,

    Exchange environment:

    3 Exchange 2003 Servers

    3 Exchange 2010 Servers.

    AD domain : abc.com
    Exchnage organization: abc.com

We have acquired two other companies, so we have added additional email addresses to mailboxes created in our Exchange with below domain names.

Test1.com and Test2.com ( I am not publishing the domain names here).

We connect to our mailbox using abc.com credentials, however primary SMTP address of the user alters between test1.com and test2.com.

    Now:

i have added necessary permissions on mailbox databases for migration user.

Tested the RPC Over HTTP and it is working fine.

Started the the migration batch and it provisioned all the user mailboxes, distribution groups , contacts etc.

But the problem is it is not moving any data from onpremise to cloud.

    Failing with error :

or go back to the first step and retry using the Autodiscover service. Consider using the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer

    .....................

I confirm that auto-discovery is working fine, but still the items are not moving.

Well, the best performance I've had is 10GB/hour per migration server using 10 threads, and using 4 migration servers...
But, 5-6GB/hour should be pretty common

Cannot open mailbox /o=First Organization/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=MBXsvr/cn=Microsoft System Attendant
This is the first time I have tried restoring mailbox on this 2013 Server. This 2013 server is from a recent 2010 migration.
I also recently lost Discovery Search mailbox and had to recreate it.
I found an article on 2010 that says to set the homeMDB, but I am not sure if that is needed in 2013. There is none set in this AD.

DB:3.02:Exchange 2013 Mailbox Restore Fails Cannot Open Mailbox Microsoft System Attendant jz

    Hi,
I reviewed your post, you mentioned the homeMDB was not set for this discovery system mailbox. I checked in my lab, this attribute was configured properly.

Please set this value and recover to check result.
If it doesn't work, as a workaround, you can re-create the Discovery system mailbox manually.

You can refer to the following article.

DB:3.01:Removing Old Organization After Doing A Inter-Forest Mail Migration.... kf

Hi: We've finished using Quest Migration Manager for Exchange to migrate all of our users' mailboxes from the Source Forest Exchange 2003 environment to Linked mailboxes in the Target
Forest Exchange 2007 environment. Now that this is complete, I'm wondering how to go about decommissioning the Source Exchange environment without breaking anything. Users still Login to the Source Forest Active directory and get their mail via the Linked
mailboxes in the Target Forest (AD Accounts are disabled in the Target Forest). I need to get rid of the old Source Forest Exchange environment. The Exchange Tabs on the User Accounts still show the old Source Mailbox information so I need to remove Exchange
2003 without affecting the Linked mailbox setup. Can you direct me to documentation about this or what do you suggest?

DB:3.01:Removing Old Organization After Doing A Inter-Forest Mail Migration.... kf

Thanks for the Reply....As far as Exchange is concerned, I believe that our Target domain would be considered the Resource domain because it contains the Linked Mailboxes. We have an Exchange 2003 organization in our Source Forest which I'd like to decommission
now since all of our mailboxes now all reside in our Target Forest. I just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't negatively affect when I remove the Exchange Attributes from the source Forest User Account objects, since the Source Forest User Accounts will still
be used to access the Linked mailboxes located in the Target Resource Forest.

    Exchange 2010 sp3
i'm not sure. for any new mailbox, where do I configure the default mailbox size (is this different from quota?) ?
    In EMC:

Organization Configuration | Mailbox | Database Management... properties of the Database, Limits Tab

    is that correct?

DB:3.01:Where To Configure Mailbox Size For New Users? xz

If you choose Organization Configuration | Mailbox | Database Management... properties of the Database, Limits Tab the limit applies to all the mailboxes under the database.
and if you want to assign different limit to the mailbox under the same database you need to go to Recipient Configuration | Mailbox | user mailbox.., Properties | Mailbox Settings| Storage Quotas | Properties and un-check use mailbox database default
and specify the limit of your wish.

    Hi,
i've a Customer that need to uninstall Exchange 2003 organization due to Google apps migration.
The question is : what's happen to the AD Attributes added to Schema by Exchange installation, like :
    ProxyAddreses
    MAIL
I Verify that if i delete a mailbox from a user, the MAIL attribute, is deleted from user.
The Customer have few application (like CRM, JDe EnterpriseOne and so on) that use this attributes for Single sign On or many other purpose.
So the problem is how to maintain this attributes after the complete removing of Exchange 2003 Organization.

I think that an Export and import (after uninstall) is a possibile solution if the attribute are still availble on the schema.

    Thanks

    Hello ntkrishna,
    Yes, it will maintain permissions.
As far as I know, if you have migrated users with sid, you will see users who have permissions on that mailbox.
If you have not migrated users, you will see users' sid on migrated mailbox.

    Greetings,
    In the Microsoft documentation says:
You can migrate a maximum of 2,000 mailboxes from your on-premises Exchange organization to Exchange Online using a cutover migration. This migration method only moves mailboxes,
mail users, mail contacts, and mail-enabled groups.

But in the EAC migration console when I select cutover migration it says the limit is 1000 mailboxes
I need to validate if the limit is 2000 mailboxes or 1000, and also if I can migrate more than 1000 mailboxers without issues even when EAC says the maximum is 1000.

Thanks in advance for the help!

DB:3.00:Exchange Cutover Migration Mailbox Limit 1z

    Hi AC,
As the documents said, the limit now is 2,000 mailboxes.
I notice following information in the article
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/w/solutions/4294.aspx :
In Remote move migrations, you have to implement a hybrid deployment to migrate more than 1,000 Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013 mailboxes to Exchange Online.
Please verify whether you are in the Remote move migrations.
Also suggest asking Office 365 forum for help so that we can get more professional suggestions. For your convenience:

Please check if all five arbitration mailboxes have a database. Make sure that all five have a database configured. You can check with the Get-Mailbox –Arbitration command.
If all five arbitration mailboxes are there, I recommend you recreate all system mailboxes to check the result. To narrow down the issue, we can also check the setup log to see if there is any clue.

    Hi,
I'm migrating user mailboxes from 3rd party system (Zimbra) to Exchange 2013, but since 3rd party migration tool is not an option, we are doing client side migration by downloading the mailbox to Outlook via IMAP, exporting it to .pst and then
importing the .pst to Exchange 2013 and/or manually copying messages from attached .pst to Exchange mailbox within Outlook.
Since we are dealing with 100GB of user mailboxes, storage space is an issue.
How does Exchange handle duplicates when importing like this ?
Is there any chance the internal deduplication mechanism in Exchange kicks in when importing for example mail sent to many recipients within the organization and saves only 1 copy with references to all recipients as it is the case when sending within Exchange
    ?
    Thanks

We're running a 2007/2013 Hybrid and have successfully migrated several accounts to Exchange Online which are working without issue.
I do however have one account I just cant get migrated and it fails with the following report. I don't think either of the reasons listed are relevant. I am the only admin, the mailbox isn't locked, and lastly MRS must have the correct permissions as I've
migrated mailboxes successfully before and after this one.
If I check the current status of the job while its migrating it only ever syncs 468kb of mailbox data and then gets stuck
I've managed to migrate the mailbox from its original DB to another DB on the 2007 server so there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the mailbox itself.

Has anyone else ever encountered this error ?
    Thanks
Error: Couldn't switch the mailbox into Sync Source mode.
This could be because of one of the following reasons:
Another administrator is currently moving the mailbox.
    The mailbox is locked.
The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service (MRS) doesn't have the correct permissions.

Network errors are preventing MRS from cleanly closing its session with the Mailbox server. If this is the case, MRS may continue to encounter this error for up to 2 hours - this duration is controlled by the TCP KeepAlive settings on the Mailbox
    server.
Wait for the mailbox to be released before attempting to move this mailbox again.

    DB:2.99:Migration Of Mailbox Issue cp

    Hi,

To move the mailbox immediately, I suggest we export the mailbox content to PST file, re-enable the mailbox on the target database, and then import the mailbox content
to the new mailbox from the PST file.

DB:2.97:Maximum Size A Mailbox Can Be For The Migration? sz

What is the maximum size a mailbox can be for the migration? The document in the Migration toolhas conflicting information (Make sure you mailbox is less than 900 Gb, and then it says make sure your mailbox is 1Gb or less).

DB:2.97:Maximum Size A Mailbox Can Be For The Migration? sz

From what I remember of migration webcasts and training I've seen in the past, you want to get the mailbox you're migrating to be smaller in size than the mailbox you're migrating it into you. So if you create a 5 GB mailbox for a user in Exchange Online, the old mailbox that you're migrating to it needs to have less than 5 GB of content in it. If you create a 25 GB mailbox, then less than 25 GB, etc.
That migration documentation was written at a time when companies purchasing Exchange Online mailboxes received allotments of 1 GB per user to allocate out to mailboxes and assumed that would be the size of the target mailbox. Since then, MS has increased that default limit to 5 GB, then now to 25 GB, which raises the ceiling considerably on how much you should be able to migrate in.
I would suggest trying to have the mailbox you're migrating contain no more content than 95% of the space available in the target Exchange Online mailbox, so that the user is not up against size limits from the moment they start. Also, keep in mind that the more content you migrate, the longer it will take and the greater chance you have for lost connections or timeouts, so there are other reasons why it makes sense to try and reduce the amount of content you migrate.
If 25 GB still isn't enough, remember that you can vary the space allocated to each mailbox, so you can borrow from other mailboxes quotas to add more space to your target. And you can always buy additional storage for mailboxes as well to help too.

DB:2.97:Exchange 2013 Shadow Queue For Single Mailbox Without Dag k9

    From the topic
    Shadow Redundancy:
Although it may seem obvious, shadow redundancy requires multiple Exchange 2013 Mailbox servers. The Mailbox server can be standalone servers, or Mailbox servers and Client Access servers installed on the same computer.

If the Mailbox server isn't a member of a DAG, the other Mailbox servers must be in the local Active Directory site.If the Mailbox server is a member of a DAG, the other Mailbox servers must belong to the same DAG. The other Mailbox servers that belong to the DAG can be in the local Active Directory site or in a remote Active Directory site. If the DAG spans multiple
Active Directory sites, shadow redundancy prefers creating a redundant copy of the message in a remote Active Directory site for site resiliency.
So, if you have only 1 Mailbox server, you can't have shadow redundancy.

Hope you are fine. In my case this solution does not be functional because my users not have a standard SMTP Address. On source organization (Exch2003) the users' SMTP Address are custom, and most of the users have the option Automatically

By my research and a contact with Microsoft Support the solution to solve this problem is necessary to create a script exporting the primary smtp address of the users in source organization and apply this information on target organization.

DB:2.95:Exchange 2010 Provision Mbxes And Link To Existing Mbxes With Fim ka

    Hello,
I have simple ADs deployment in my orgniazation: AD(#1) - FIM - AD(#2).
Mailbox creation (or rather I should say migration) is triggered by changing a given attribute in AD(#1).
As the result FIM kicks in picking up the change and starts the Exchange 2010 mailbox creation process (pretty much standard MS code-less way to provision Exchange 2010 mailboxes) to AD(#2) forest. This works all fine for me!
Problem is that within my organization a few users were already created in Exchange 2010 manually (early adopters). Now, from time to time it happens that people trigger mailbox migration in AD(#1) and as the result a new mailbox gets
created (existing one is then disconnected).
Is there a way to help FIM resolve this issue with the code-less provisioning? Or I should rather go to custom workflows or FIM extension directly to implement mailbox ecistance check? I have a few ideas (if code-less) does not prove helpful,
but would greatly appreciate advices for the most effective and common approach.

I think this scenario calls for a custom activity to help you. You will probably be able to integrate this activity into your codeless design via WF parameters.

DB:2.94:Migrated Mailboxes Lose Delegated Permissions 97

I have an exchange organization running exchange 2003. Exchange 2007 servers have been installed in the organization and a few pilot mailboxes have been migrated to exchange 2007. These mailboxes previously had delegated full mailbox access to a number of mailboxes on exchange 2003. UserA used to have full mailbox access to UserB, UserC and UserD mailboxes. After migrating UserA, UserB and UserC mailboxes to exchange 2007, UserA now has access to UserC mailbox only. In addition UserE who still resides on Exchange 2003 and had also full mailbox access to UserB, UserC and UserD now only has access to UserB's mailbox!!

Has anyone seen this issue before? Why are the delegated permissions being removed from only certain mailboxes? There are around 2000 mailboxes to be migrated and this issue is causing a huge delay in the migration process. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

Honestly, I'd bet $5 that the user reporting the issue was doing something 'wrong' as 3/4 of post-migration issues I see are related to user not understanding the new target environment.  Especially with mailbox delegation, as there are many different ways to configure and use those features.

DB:2.94:Mailbox Server To Dag Relationship - One To Many? af

I am in the process of planning our migration from Exchange 2003/2007 to Exchange 2010. In addition to a fully redundant solution at our primary site, we want to add a disaster recovery site at a geographically remote location. At the primary
location, we will have multiple, fully redundant mailbox servers. For the disaster recovery location, we are considering having a single server with copies of all of the databases from all of the production mailbox servers.
The question I have is: Can a single mailbox server be a member of multiple DAGs? I know it is possible to have multiple DAGs in a single Exchange organization, but if a single server can only be a member of one DAG, I would need to either limit the
Exchange organization to one DAG or set up multiple mailbox servers in the disaster recovery location.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

NO- One server can be a member for one DAG only.

DB:2.93:Mailbox Cross Forest Request Is Not Finalizing Older Mailboxes Correctly kx

    Hi all,

    I am in the testing stages of a cross-forest mail migration (2008 SP2 forest with exchange 2010 SP3to 2012R2 with 2013 Sp1)

The account is prepared with the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1, mailbox is moved (either with new-moverequest or new-migrationbatch OR from the ECP portal) user account moves without issue, no failed items. user is prompted to restart outlook, the expectation
is that when the user re-opens outlook it should be pointing to their new moved mailbox. for older mailboxes this does not work. I have to go in and manually create a new profile and search for their account.

Now the interesting part. I create a new user in the new forest, user our create user script (from the mailbox forest it finds the user, creates the local user then adds mailbox and links to the user account in the new forest) once this is done, I
can wait for replication then prepare the new forest account to migration (mail enable and run Prepare-Moverquest) once I move the mailbox and reclogged in, the mailbox was pointing properly to the new exchange environment!

Any thoughts on why any older (longer then a couple days) would fail out?

any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

EDB file size on 2003 was about 40GB. After three days on the 2007 mailbox server our new database EDB has grown to 83GB. Has anyone experienced growth like this? There is no way we are receiving that much mail or mail with attachments on a daily basis. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Remote
The account must have the privileges made available by membership in the Recipient Administrators group.

    Remote Legacy
The migration account must have the following permissions.
    Exchange Server Administrators role
    Exchange Recipient Administrators role
    Destination Forest Permissions
In the target Exchange 2010 organization the account used to create and manage the move request must be a member of the Organization Management or Recipient Management role groups, or have the following RBAC roles assigned either directly
    or through group membership:
    Move Mailboxes role
    Mail Recipients role
    Mail Recipient Creation role
Only the Move Mailbox role is required to have access to the New-MoveRequest command. However, the Mail Recipients and Mail Recipient Creation roles may also be required to creating and managing target accounts in preparation for mailbox moves.

Ican't find any where roles in sec exchange group or RBAC:
    Recipient Administrators

My question is now that there are no public folders within the organization, do I still need to perform the public folder migration process (e.g. moveallreplicas.ps1) for the remaining system public folders or can I just skip this step? Will these folders

be migrated) so we will be creating new disabled accounts and mailboxes in Org B for each user in Org A and connect the mailboxes. There will be a brief period of co-existence between two Orgs (to enable mail-flow) until all the users have their mailboxes
active in Org B. Need to know the following:

    1. Port requirements - If there's a firewall between the twoforests and we want to have a resource forest topology i:e having AD accounts in one forest but mailboxes hosted in second forest (linked mailbox scenario) - What
are the ports required to be allowed on the intervening firewall for users to be able to accesslinked mailboxes?

    Dear all,

I tried to add permission to the mailbox database and to the mailbox but none can fix the problem. I used domain admin to perform the move mailbox operation, but I have added full access for the domain admin to the mailbox.
I am considering other migration method, and Export/Import-Mailbox through PST may work. However, from the description, Export/Import-Mailbox just export/import messages from/to a mailbox. How can I actually move a mailbox using Export/Import-Mailbox
from one mailbox database to another?

    Hello all:
I have an Exchange 2003 Exchange 2010 mixed environment, with FPE 2010 in the Exchange 2010 HUBs with the Content Filter enable. Its
    a pilot of our migration.
If I use an IMAP client (Outlook Express), using the SMTP virtual server of Exchange 2003 (and authenticating) as outgoing server many
legitimate messages get a SCL score of 5 or even 9, so they end in the Junk Mail folder of the Exchange 2010 users (Ive got the Junk Folder threshold set to 4).
The header I get says that, as an internal message it gets a MessageSecurityAntispamBypass, but the SCL is 5.

As expected the very same message sent from Outlook MAPI or OWA 2003 gets a SCL:-1 (all authenticated messages should get -1 as far as
    I Know)
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SCL: -1
    X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthSource: XXXX.YYYY.es

Even if I send the same message from a Hotmail account I get a SCL score of -1.
The same message sent with an IMAP client using an Exchange 2010 SMTP Client Connector gets a SCL score of -1, as expected.
    Any ideas?
Is there anything I have to configure in order to get a score of -1 for authenticated messages sent from Exchange 2003 SMTP Virtual

DB:2.91:Messages Sent From Exchange In Mixed Enviromento Dont Get Scl:-1 p3

An ugly workaround for this: The 2K3 bridgehead is putting a SCL header in the e-mail and FPE is blindly accepting that header. You can add a hub transport rule in E2010, if the incoming e-mail has a SCL score then remove header X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SCL.
FPE will receive the original e-mail and process it as it should.

If you remove the E2K3 bridgehead in the future you should also remove this kludge.

Exchange 2013 environment consists of eight servers, with four on each AD-site (DAG is planned, but still not configured). Four servers on each site consist of two mailbox (backend) servers and two CAS servers. Windows NLB is configured between two CAS servers.
Autodiscover DNS record is using NLB's IP address.Public Folder is residing on Exchange 2010. It is still not configured and not migrated to Exchange 2013 Public Folder.

    Hi folks,
    I need help.
In my test environment I have a organization with 2GB in mailbox plan.
When i use the command Set-MailboxPlan to update the Default mailbox plan to 5GB, this quota is only valid to new mailboxes. The old organizations mailbox, then I already created, keep with old quota (2GB).
Somebody knows, how could I change the mailbox quota for new and old mailboxes in the organization?

Unfortunately, I didnt find any solution.

In my case, I did a workaround. I used the command set-mailboxplan to set the organization quota, after that I get all mailboxes already created in the organization and run the command set-mailbox with a foreach loop.
If somebody find anything pls, let us know.

DB:2.89:Options For Bes 4.1 During Ad Migration s7

I'm about to engage in a project to migrate one AD organization into another. Both AD trees have their own BES 4.1. Along with the AD migration we are also consolidating our email (both are Exchange 2003).

At this point every object from AD1 is mirrored in AD2 and every mailbox from Exchange1 is mirrored in Exchange2. From a laptop/desktop perspective all we have to do is flip a switch.

Is there anyway for me to do the same from AD1 BES to AD2 BES w/o having the user manually re-activate the device? I know back in the 3.6 days there wasn't any other option. I'm hoping with the new versionthere is.

DB:2.89:Options For Bes 4.1 During Ad Migration s7

I figured that was the case. Do you think a simple activation is enough, or should we have them perform a device wipe.

DB:2.88:Migrate Discovery Search Mailbox From Exchange 2010 To Exchange 2013? 7k

We are close to finishing a migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013. All mailboxes, public folders and arbitration mailboxes have been moved and everything is running smooth and In-Place eDiscovery searches work fine. I’ve gathered some conflicting information
regarding the Discovery Search Mailbox that still resides on the 2010 server (see screenshot below) so I’m hoping someone can provide some insight on what to do with it. In order to remove the 2010 database I will have to either move the Discovery Search Mailbox
    or remove it.

Numerous articles tell me to move it to the 2013 server using the New-MoveRequest DiscoverySearchMailbox* -TargetDatabase DB2013command.
Another article tells me to leave it on the 2010 server and delete it from there since it’s a system mailbox for 2010.
    The most confusing part is seeing that Exchange 2013’s Discovery Search Mailbox is namedSystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}
    (as shown here- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg588318%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx).
This mailbox is listed and visible as an arbitration mailbox on our 2013 server right now when I run the Get-Mailbox arbitration command:

I understand that I won’t be able to remove the 2010 database with that mailbox still sitting there, but why should I migrate it, as a lot of sources are telling me to,
when the 2013 search discovery mailbox is apparently in place and working? Any thoughts? Thank you!

    Hi,
We have just successfully migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and although there were a few bumps, the migration has been fairly smooth.
But I've run into a problem with the opening of a folder in Outlook for a user account that has been specifically granted Full Access Permission on the mailbox that we're attempting to add.
The steps I've gone through are as follows:

Open EMC on Mailbox Server. Select the mailbox under Recipient Configuration/Mailbox that I want to add into the Outlook folder list.
Right-click and choose Manage Full Access Permission Add the Outlook user ID to the list. Click Manage. Close EMC.
On the client machine, I then do the following in Outlook 2010:

File/Info/Account Settings/Account Settings Choose Change on the E-Mail account. Click on More Settings on the Server Settings page. Click on the Advanced Tab. Click Add to insert the mailbox given permission for in EMC. Put the mailbox name in and click ok. Click Ok back on the Advanced Tab dialog window. Click Next through to Finish on Change Account. Click Close back on the Account Settings. Back in Outlook, scroll the folder list down the the mailbox just added and click.

The error message that is returned is: Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. The operation failed. An object cannot be found. There are no errors shown in the Event Log so I'm at a loss as to why
this error is occurring. Another factor - the user is a member of Discovery Management, Organization Management and every other privileged Exchange Security group.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?Best, Jim

    Hi all,
I am doing a test migration and have a bit of a dilemma. Each user has a mailbox in the source and the target organization. The mailbox in the target issimply used to forward to the mailbox in the source organization (setting the forwarding on the mailbox andpointing toa contact).
I wish to remove the contact and the mailbox in the target and then perform an inter-organizational mailbox migration from the Exchange 2007 source org to the Exchange 2010 destination org.
The problem is that this will break all email replies. I am aware of the X500 address fix however this is not working for me. I have tracked it down to the fact that if you remove forwarding on a mailbox, it instantly breaks all replies. Even if you put the forwarding back on the mailbox it remains in a broken state. Does anyone know why this is the case and whether there is a way to resolve this so that people can continue to reply to email?
To make it clearer as to what I want to do, the current situation is:
Mailbox A -- Forwards to contact -- Forwards to mailbox Bin the other organization
What I want to do is:remove Mailbox Aand contact, then move Mailbox B to the other organisation while retaining reply capabilities.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

Clicked Save, Error: The specified recipient is invalid. Same thing happens if I specify the distribution list for the message to or from.

I am at a bit of a loss as to why this isn't working. My theory is that the new-journalrule cmdlet is ignoring the -Organization parameter since the mailboxes I'm trying to send journal reports to obviously exist. I've tried piping in the identity of those
mailboxes various ways, but the new-journalrule cmdlet doesn't take direct piping from get-mailbox commands, and any formatting of data from the get-mailbox commands returns the same errors stated before. Any suggestions are definitely welcome. We are trying
to avoid doing something at a global level due to the nature of the hosting environment.

Hi, I've started a migration successfully and everthing is going well apart from some users mailbox size doesn't tally with their on-premises mailbox size. For example the users mailbox size on the on-premises Exchange 2003 server is 3.2GB. In the migration
tool running the cutover migration is shows the mailbox as 47GB and growing. I have 3 mailboxes that are all doing the same and the migration has been stuck for 3 days on the same three mailboxes. Please help! If anyone else has experienced this it would be

DB:2.87:Cut Over Migration Mailbox Size Issues d9

Ok, now I have your real answer. It's the retention policy on exchange 2010. It keeps your deleted items for recovery unless you set the policy and or clear out the deleted recovery items.

Log into owa and right click on deleted items and select recovery, you can see there how many items are waiting there. There are ways of purging the emails if you need to know, ping me here and I will give you the commands.

    Hi,
what's the simplest and correct way to change quota only for some users in an organization? Default mailbox plan is set at 1GB and I have some that needs to have a larger mailbox.
When doing a migration from hmc 4.5 to 2010 hosting. How do I make sure that mailboxes that are being migrated complete successfully if they are larger then what mailboxplan is set to?
    Regards,
    Dan

DB:2.87:Change Mailbox Quota For Single User pk

You can have multiple mailbox plans.
When performing the migration, I believe one of the step is to subscribe the users to a specific mailbox plan. It doesn't do what you want, as in checking of mailbox size but you can definitely modify that PS to cater for your needs.Regards, Kip Ng - http://blogs.technet.com/b/provtest/

DB:2.87:Moving Mail (Not Mailbox) From Ex. 2003 Forest To Ex. 2010 Forest. ac

    Hey all,
We're currently doing a migration between two forests. We're using Quest Migration Manager for AD and Exchange. We had a previous migration where it was 2003 to 2007, and for that, we used the move-mailbox command from the Source 2003 forest to the Target
2007 forest, and then used Quest to actually switch the mailbox for mail routing. This worked fine as Quest did all the switching work, and the move-mailbox command simply copied the mail into the target mailbox (essentially an ex-merge from source, then an
import into target, but without any of the .PST files and is MUCH faster. The entire process took 2 minutes)

Now, the migration is from a 2003 environment to 2010, and the move-mailbox command is now prepare and new-mailboxrequest, which looks to physically move the mailbox. We ran some tests in our test environment and that command actually tried to do the switching
(@target.test for target address) for us, and after testing mail routing, it doesn't look like it works anyway.
I looked into doing an export-mailbox command in the source forest, and then just doing an import, but that process would take awhile, plus we are trying to script this into a website, so having to hop between environments isn't a great options (Cross-forest
exports don't seem to work anymore either)

Any suggestions on this? I really just want to move mail, calendars, etc. to the new environment without anything fancy, yet I can't seem to find a great way to script it.

    Thanks,
    Chandler

DB:2.87:Moving Mail (Not Mailbox) From Ex. 2003 Forest To Ex. 2010 Forest. ac

    Hi,
If you only want to move the mail from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 you can simply export all the mailbox to a pst file and then import them to Exchange 2010.
    1. Export ALL the mailbox to PST (Exmerge)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BlWhtuz85E
    2. Bulk import PST to Exchange 2010
    http://demazter.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/importing-pst-files-in-to-exchange-2010/
You needmach the pre-requisites before you do that. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

    Hi,
We have an Exchange 2007 SP2 UR4 environment with 2 CCR clusters (one has 2 SGs / DBs, the other has 3).
Each user resides on either CCRname1\mailbox or CCRname2\mailbox.
We are rebuilding the mailbox servers on VMware and are switching to LCR from CCR - as such, the CCR virtual name is lost.
Is there a way of setting an 'alias' on a message store server so after the migration the users will point to (e.g.) CCRname1\mailbox rather than NewServerName\mailbox? Or are my only options:
    1. Name the new LCR servers the same as the CCR virtual name once migrated? (is it possile to rename a message store server successfully?)
    2. Accept the new location of NewServerName\mailbox? (will Outlook automatically Autodiscover or do I have to 'push' this via GPO or SCCM?)
    Thanks!

I've having some difficulty adding additional proxy email aliases to users in HOSTING mode. I'm using the following command (subtituting the real names for sample ones):
    $Temp = Get-Mailbox -organization -Identity
    john@contoso.com
    $Temp.EmailAddresses = (smtp:john@thirdaddress.contoso.com)
    Set-Mailbox -organization -Identity john@contoso.com -EmailAddresses $Temp.EmailAddresses
But I recieve a message back that states:
A positional parameter cannot be found that accepts argument '-organization'.
    CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument: (:) [Set-Mailbox], ParameterBindingException
    FullyQualifiedErrorId : PositionalParameterNotFound,Set-Mailbox
I've tried using the -organization switch for the GET-MAILBOX command, and that works just fine, but it's when I use the -organization switch for SET-MAILBOX it fails with the error above. So when I try using the SET-MAILBOX command without the -organization
    switch I get the error:
The operation couldn't be performed because object
    'john@contoso.com' couldn't be found on 'server.contoso.local'.
    CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Set-Mailbox], ManagementObjectNotFoundException
    FullyQualifiedErrorId : EA956B2F,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.SetMailbox
Is this a BETA limitation that has been fixed in RTM, or am I using the command totally wrong? I've tried searching high and low on Technet for proper usage and this looks right.

Checking into ldp.exe seems to indicate that those are old system mailboxes; the accounts don't exist in AD anymore.
Can anyone please suggest how to either move those mailboxes to another MDB or how to remove these entries which are preventing me from removing the MDB?

I have found several very good articles on how to configure and deploy a resource forest. Since there is a time period for the migration to take place I need to configure server to server messaging for those users that migrated as they migrate. In the resource forest I have a valid working exchange organization. I've created a new linked mailbox and moved the mailbox successfully from the original single exchange forest to the new resource exchange forest. What I haven't been able to find is how to configure the send and receive connectors to and from the exchange servers, both are 2007 (and in separate forests). The users are going to maintain email addresses during the migration. So @company.org will need to be delivered to the old server first and then relayed up to the already migrated users. Please advise.

    2 Exchange 2007 Hub/Cas servers (on Server 2008)
The Transporter Suite is installed with services running on one of the Hub/Cas servers

I have no problem with directory synchronization (full both-ways). Free/Busy isn't working, but that is another battle for another day.

    My pressing issue/questions:

    1) How can i log and review a mailbox migration? I have migrated a few pilot mailboxes from Domino toExchange, but each has either completely failed, or completed with exceptions (the dreaded Index was outside the bounds of the array and/or Could not create message item... errors that the Transporter does such a fine job explaining). Certainly there are ways to capture events and monitor them.

In more than one example, I have a Domino mailbox that successfully (see exceptions above) 'completed' a mailbox move, but didn't contain all items. One in particular, since it was a test mailbox, we deleted the AD account and purged the disconnected mailbox from the dumpster, and attempted to remigrate. The problem is, the migration wizard sits and spins for a few minutes than states that the process is complete (with the again aforementioned exceptions), YET NOTHING MIGRATED... 0 items. This is a consistent observation.

    2) Since there is no associated object on the AD side (and after many full two-way directory connector synch's), why does the 'migration' pretend to run, yet not fail for a lack of an associate AD object? Is there some metadata stored on the Domino side (as there is NOTHING in AD for the non-existant object) that basically denotes that the object was previously migrated, thus ignores the remigration attempt?

If anyone has experienced this issue, or can help with the logging question, please help a brother out.

    DB:2.85:Exchange 2007 Mailbox Migration ss

    Hi All
My company has offices in three different countries. Our mail server is published over internet and is currently residing in other country. Now they are asking us to deploy our own exchange server and all the users in our country will be accessing email
    through this server.
My concern is that if i deploy exchange 2007 here in my country, is there any way i can migrate those mailboxes in my new exchange organization so that the users can access their old emails as well?
    Looking for a help.
    Regards

    DB:2.85:Outlook/Exchange 2003 Redirect Rule Slow 7j

Exchange Server 2003/W2K3 Server/Outlook 2003 client. We have set up an Outlook rule to redirect incoming messages on a mailbox (A) to another mailbox (B) in our organization where the subject contains a certain string. The redirect is occurring correctly, except it appears to only happen 10-15 minutes after the email has arrived to mailbox A.  You can see the message sitting in mailbox A for this period.I was under the assumption that these rules fire as messages arrive.  Is there away to either force this behaviour, or increase the frequency that this rule is applied (if it is happening on a schedule, which might be the case)? Thanks.jb

    DB:2.85:Organization Chart 19

how good is the tool for doing organization charts?

    thanks

    DB:2.85:Organization Chart 19

Depends what you need, if you want something like:

    Level1 Mgr
    |_ Level 2 Mger1
    |_Employee 1
    |_Employee 2
    |_ Level 2 Mger2
    |_Employee 3
    |_Employee 4
    |_Employee 5

Then you can use XMLP right now. IF you want something more along the lines of Microsofts org chart, then you need to wait a couple of months for release 5.6 when XMLP will allow you to manipulate shapes ie repeat and move, so you get somehting like:
    ___________
    | Mger 1 |
    |__________|
    ______|_______
    ____|__ ___|__
    | Mger1 | | Mger2|
    |______| |______|

    etc

DB:2.84:Script Required To Count Mailbox Per Database fz

    Team,
Did any one has script to count the mailbox per database for list of Mailbox servers (not all , we have only access to few server) and either output should be in HTML or it should be in the email body.

OR If any single script it should have mailbox count per database , disk space ,database size , white space etc.

already have the below script , unfortunately this will give the information about entire exchange organization which is not required to me.
    http://www.stevieg.org/2011/06/exchange-environment-report/
    we are on Exchange 2010.

    Simon;
Get-ExchangeServe returns all servers. Get-MailboxServer returns onlyExchange servers with the mailbox role.
You can also eliminate the intermediate variable $a by doing this:
Finally, you can use a calculated property to display the server name.

    foreach($Server in Get-MailboxServer)
    {
    Get-Mailbox -Server $Server.name -ResultSize Unlimited | Group-Object Database | Select-object @{Name = Server;Expression = {$Server.name}},Name,Count
    }

    Hello,
We are unable to open a second mailbox in the webmail. When we do this we are getting the following error:
This mailbox cannot be opened. The mailbox may be located in a different forest from the Microsoft Exchange Client Access server. For access to the mailbox or for more information, contact technical support for your organization.
We do only have 1 forest, and when a other user is accessing the same mailbox there are no problem.
Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be?

DB:2.84:Exchange 2010 - Exchange 2013 Permanent Coexsistence To Avoid Migration Of Public Folders s9

    Hi Guys,
I was hoping to get some opinions/ advices regarding the case explained below.
The company I work for has a medium-sized Exchange 2010 infrastructure that consists of several geographically dispersed 2-node DAGs and corresponding CASArrays. It hosts about 1000 mailboxes in total and large public folder database that is replicated on
every mailbox server in the environment. All users are using Outlook 2010/2013.

There is a business drive to perform migration to Exchange 2013. However, migration of the Public Folders is not feasible because of the lack of multimaster replication, the complicated migration process and several other limitations in Ex2013 PFs.

To work around this issue while still performing the migration I am considering the following scenario:

Deploy Exchange 2013 servers in the organization Migrate all mailboxes to Exchange 2013 serversDon't ever start migration of Public Folders (leave one Exchange 2010 mailbox server in every location for hosting the Public Folder database)Keep the coexistence permanently (with mailboxes on2013 and public folders on 2010)

What do you think of this setup? Do you see any issues with such long-term coexistence?

    Thanks.

    DB:2.84:Exchange 2003 - 2010 Migration: Maybe The Legacydn A Problem? 81

    Hi,
we are terminating a migration from 2003 to 2010, but I've a worry.
I see that into LegacyDN of migrated mailboxes there is the old Exchange organization name. All clients are Outlook 2010.
Do I need to manually update it or add X500 address for each mailbox :) or I don't think it?
    Thank you

You can change the LegacyExchangeDN, BUT there is really
no good reason for you to change it.
If you do then be aware, that:
    1. Your users will need to create a new Outlook profile
    2. Entries in users Outlook Autocompletion cached will be invalid and your users will complain about NDRs.
    3. Probably a lot more problems that 12 that will keep you busyMartina Miskovic

DB:2.84:Exchange 2010 Sp1: Mailbox Server Role. Avoid Creation Of Mailbox For Install Account At Mailbox Role Setup 7p

    Hello:
We are implementing Exchange 2010 SP1 on a large organization.
A mailbox for the account that is performing the installation is created during the Mailbox Server Role's setup.
We want to avoid the creation of this mailbox. In fact we want the Exchange Administrators to not have a separate mailbox.
Is there a parameter or a anyway to avoid this?

DB:2.84:Exchange 2010 Sp1: Mailbox Server Role. Avoid Creation Of Mailbox For Install Account At Mailbox Role Setup 7p

    Hi

You request is odd. So I test it on my test machine.

so, if i can't avoid the creation of mailbox, It's safe to disable mailbox after creation. I'm in process of migrate from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010 so the postmaster functionality I have already.
I disable mailbox of exchange admin and test it. It can logon on ECP. EMC,EMS ,etc.

I do simple management task and dont meet error .

No official document mentions this problem.
But you had better not disable admin mailbox.

It's safe to hide it from address book?
    Yes

DB:2.83:Set Mailbox Quota For One Mailbox In An Organization xd

I am trying to set mailbox size for a specific mailbox within the organization, the script below works for setting mailbox size for all in the organization
    get-mailbox -organization 123 | set-mailbox -ProhibitSendReceiveQuota 5GB -IssueWarningQuota 4.5gb -ProhibitSendQuota 5gb UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults $false
so i am thinking for one mailbox it would be:
    get-mailbox -organization 123 | set-mailbox -identity me@123.com -ProhibitSendReceiveQuota 5GB -IssueWarningQuota 4.5gb -ProhibitSendQuota 5gb UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults $false
    this doesn't work. please advise?

Recently I built two Exchange 2013 servers, CAS mailbox and added them to my existing 2010 organization. Now, people who HAVE NOT been migrated to the 2013 mailbox server are not getting an updated OAB. Those on 2013 are getting an updated
    OAB.
Besides the obvious answer to hasten the migration to 2013, why aren't the 2010 mailbox users not getting an updated OAB?
