    The sequenze of the columns in a table, changes something? It is, exists an optimal way to order the columns?
    Thanks in advance.

    DB:3.82:Columns Of A Table ds

    The sequence does not matter. It is always a good idea to put the primary key as the first column(s). Furthermore, group columns by function, e.g. first_name, last_name, street_name, street_number, postal_code, city, country. This makes the table more readable when you do a describe of the table, or when you select rows with select *.

    When adding elements into Folder View, the section Standard Form Elements does contain only the element Discussion Folder (Standard View), no movable columns

    Question2:

    In Folder Options in Configure Columns, one can choose what columns of an entry to display.

    I found the order of chosen columns inconsistent.

    Is there a way how to specify the order of the chosen columns?

    Hi
    I need to save the viewed order of the columns on a JTable,
    (i.e. the user may have dragged columns around horizontally).
    When the application restarts I need to restore the user's viewed column order.
    I understand this order is maintained internally in JTable, and it would be better
    if I did not change the actual initial order of the columns.
    Any ideas?

    DB:3.66:Jtable Save And Restore Viewed Order Of Columns pc

    You can serialize this info in file whenever column changes or that screen is destroyed.

    But you need to be careful while populating the data after table is opened again. The information must be deserialized and table creation etc should take care of this.

    After deserialization this information can be kept in application cache.

    DB:3.52:Problems Manipulating Multidimensional Arrays 7p

    hello, I am new to java programming. I would like to know some techniques in which i can change the data within multidimensional arrays. For example, with a 2d array, (int [row][column] a), the index of the rows are the columns, and each column contains an element. I would like to know how to, for example, switch the order of the indexes of the rows and columns. So for row 1, the columns (the indexes) are 0,1,2,3. after switching the order, it would be 3,2,1,0. Is there any possible way to do this? a reply would be appreciated. Thank you.

    DB:3.52:Problems Manipulating Multidimensional Arrays 7p

    One thing to be aware of is that there are no multidimensional arrays sensu strictu in Java. Only one-dimensional arrays the component type of which may be arrays, the component type of which may be arrays, ... etc.

    So, in your example, your int[][] field, that's an array. You can change the order of its element as you like.

    For instance:
    import java.lang.reflect.Array;

    int[][] field =
    {
    {1,2}, {2,3}, {3,4}, {4,3}
    }
    ;

    {
    System.out.println( toString(field) );
    reverseArray(field);
    System.out.println( toString(field) );
    }

    public static String toString(int[][] i){
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    for(int dim1 = 0; dim1 i.length; dim1++){
    for(int dim2 = 0; dim2 i[dim1].length; dim2++){
    sb.append("i[").append(dim1).append(',').append(dim2).append("] = ").append(i[dim1][dim2]).append('\n');
    }
    }
    return sb.toString();
    }

    public static void reverseArray(Object array){
    if( array == null || ! array.getClass().isArray() )
    return ;

    Object temp;
    for(int ii, n = ii = Array.getLength(array); --ii n / 2; ){
    temp = Array.get(array, ii);
    Array.set(array, ii, Array.get(array, n - ii - 1));
    Array.set(array, n - ii - 1, temp);
    }
    }

    1. Using Transaction code OOAM or PHAP_CATALOG_PA, goto Appraisal Template (Object VA) level.

    2. Goto tab Columns

    3. At the extreme right you will get a scroll bar (with I written on it)

    4. Place your cursor on the column text which you want to change and then use the scroll bar to change the position of the column.

    DB:3.44:The Order Of The Key Columns Is Important? pc

    My own answer:This is important if you want for example a Date Hierarchy to be in the correct Order, that is Year, Month, Day.
    Sometimes if the records are not ordered these kind of hierarchies may not be returned in chronological order.

    If you preview a dimension in the Dimension Designers browse tab and you notice that the attribute values are not in the desired order,
    Then you can order them in chronological order by following these steps:

    1. Click on the Dimension Structure tab for the relevant dimension.
    2. Click on the Attribute which you want to sort in chronological order.
    3. Look at the Properties of the Attribute notice that the OrderBy property = Key (leave this as is.)
    4. Click on the ellipses button next to Key Columns (in the Source group of properties for the selected attribute)
    5. Now simply order the key fields in the rightmost listbox
    6. Now when re-processing the dimension the relevant attributes should be in chronological order.I.W Coetzer

    In a previous post I was helped with a formula that would populate a final status based on the four cell values in columns BO - BR. Since then the variations have grown a bit more complicated or convoluted (see above). I can no longer add to the formula
    in VBA and need too,not sure if there is limitation to the characters. I have a feeling the variations will grow.

    Is there a way to have a line of code in my macro to look at perhaps a table (look up) that I would create on a worksheet and maintain where the code would look at the cell values in columns BO - BR and if equal to then populate the final status (shown in table
    above) in column BS .

    Here is the current forumla, but it is producing an error if the value in cell BO is equal to "OK", it should return "OK" as final status

    = Range("BS2") = "=IF(OR($BO2=""OK"",AND(COUNTIF($BO2:$BP2,""Order"")=2,$BR2=""OK""),
    AND(COUNTIF($BO2:$BP2,""Watch"")=2,COUNTIF($BQ2:$BR2,""OK"")=2)),""Watch"",

    DB:3.44:Final Status Needed Based On Cell Values pz

    The 'nice' thing about the table is that it's easy to set up different results based on the 4 possible choices which basically makes the VLOOKUP() formula maintenance free. Plus it makes it easy to visually examine your choices and results setup to see
    what you should be getting given any particular set of the 4 conditions. I also suspect that using the VLOOKUP() even with the concatenation build up within it is going to provide results faster, especially since the lookup table is fairly short.
    Another thing to point out, that shouldn't affect you at this time, but if you find yourself in a similar situation in the future but using conditions that when concatenated could result in misunderstood results, you can add in a separator between the conditions
    to keep them distinct, as:
    A2 "~" B2 "~" C2 "~" D2
    Just be sure and pick a separator that won't ever appear in the actual conditions, and use it both in the VLOOKUP() side and the table side. You can even pick a character not easily typed in through the keyboard such as character with ASCII decimal value
    of 255:
    A2 CHAR(255) B2 CHAR(255) C2 CHAR(255) D2

    But I definitely like what Jeeped did with it as a formula, I actually had not thought of concatenating the parameters like that to shorten and effectively simplify the formula - gets a "Helpful" vote from me for sure. Wish I'd thought of something like
    that back when we were dealing with colors!

    I may want to change the order, for example having all the columns defined as attributes from the data foundation first, or place a calculated column next to another column it has a relationship with.

    Of course you can change the column output order in result sets in attribute views within the output pane of the data foundation, and again you can set the order in the output pane of the aggregation within calculation views.

    But how within analytic views?

    I am not sure this is a Discoverer issue per se. The order of columns in the export it seems is determined by the database procedure. Discoverer can display columns in any order you want, as Michael pointed out.

    Thanks

    DB:3.38:Protecting Columns In Workbook - Ip Planning f8

    Hi All,

    I have a question on planning using a workbook(BI-IP).

    The workbook contains an input ready query (on a multiprovider) which has actuals columns and plan columns.

    Is there a way to protect the actuals columns in order to prevent the user from changing values(display only).

    When I select the option 'Enable Cell protection' within the dataprovider config it still allows the user to change values in the actual columns of the workbook which is confusing to the enduser. Protecting the worksheet temporarily diasables input in the actuals columns but gets refreshed each time the workbook is executed.

    It works fine on the web where the actuals are greyed out.

    Support pack is SP9.

    Thanks

    SA

    DB:3.38:Protecting Columns In Workbook - Ip Planning f8

    Thanks for the reply.

    In this case restricting authorization will not help since the layout actually has some columns which are read only(Actuals) and some which are open for input(Plan).

    This has also been appropriately defined for the respective key figures in the query.

    Also in the web it automatically changes these columns to read only and the plan key figures are ready for input which works fine.

    It is only in the workbook where the problem exists and as per the help documentation enabling cell protection in the dataprovider is supposed to automatically change the actuals column to display only like in the web.

    Not sure why the workbook behaves differently.

    SA

    DB:3.37:Columns/Values In Single Record View Are Wrong After Changing Column Order 3f

    I'm using Version 1.2.0 Build MAIN-29.98.

    I open a table, go to Data tab, drag columns to the left see columns in a different order, click on a row, and select "Single Record View" -- now columns don't match their values, also order of columns is strange: it's not sorted by column_id, and it doesn't match new order of columns on the screen.

    Is it a bug?

    DB:3.37:Columns/Values In Single Record View Are Wrong After Changing Column Order 3f

    What I see on a simple table with numbers in the rows, is that the order in the Single Record View is the same as the (rearranged) grid view, with the labels not matching either the original or the column_id order. Is that the bug to be logged?

    Yes, you can reference the columns in the order by clause by their numerical position, as well as their names, for example:

    DB:3.34:Listing Of Column cf

    ALL_TAB_COLUMNS
    ALL_TAB_COLUMNS describes the columns of the tables, views, and clusters accessible to the current user. To gather statistics for this view, use the SQL ANALYZE statement or the DBMS_STATS package.

    Related Views
    DBA_TAB_COLUMNS describes the columns of all tables, views, and clusters in the database.
    USER_TAB_COLUMNS describes the columns of the tables, views, and clusters owned by the current user. This view does not display the OWNER column.

    Column Datatype NULL Description
    OWNER
    VARCHAR2(30)
    NOT NULL
    Owner of the table, view, or cluster

    TABLE_NAME
    VARCHAR2(30)
    NOT NULL
    Name of the table, view, or cluster

    COLUMN_NAME
    VARCHAR2(30)
    NOT NULL
    Column name

    DATA_TYPE

    DEFAULT_LENGTH
    NUMBER
    Length of default value for the column

    DATA_DEFAULT
    LONG
    Default value for the column

    NUM_BUCKETS
    NUMBER
    The number of buckets in histogram for the column

    Note: The number of buckets in a histogram is specified in the SIZE parameter of the SQL statement ANALYZE. However, Oracle does not create a histogram with more buckets than the number of rows in the sample. Also, if the sample contains any values that are very repetitious, Oracle creates the specified number of buckets, but the value indicated by this column may be smaller because of an internal compression algorithm.

    LAST_ANALYZED

    Example: the table "elephant" has two columns, "head" and "tail". I would like to add the new column, "back", between the two existing columns, that a SELECT * FROM elephant returns the columns in the order: head, back, tail.

    Do you have any tips?

    Any application that does SELECT * is a huge bug just waiting to happen. It also unneccesarily thrashes the network, the buffer cache, server and client memory, and likely disk as well. It is not as scalable as using explicit select lists because of a large increase in IO compared to explicit select lists.

    Found the issue. It was Excel. Her is what happened from what I can figure:
    Excel allows users to rearrange the columns and it someone remembers this order. Client did this and i did not know.

    then for the rest of the session excel remembered the table order instead arranging to my view order.

    closed excel and reopened.....with a new column order (it was out of order before)..all is well.

    Hello,

    I have a question regarding the imposibility to modify the order of columns in a table structure.

    I want to change the order for administrative purpose, not for users.Tables are big so recreate is to much cost.

    I don't think anybody when creating a table, list columns at random. I define the columns in a table in an order that have a meaning, that make it easier to understand and check the structure of the table, an order that make my administrative labor easier. So it would be nice to have the posibility to get back the order of the table structure when table change, columns droped or added... Specially if table have a lot of columns

    How can you list the columns of a table in a meaningfull order, not alphabetically, an order that bold the structure of data, where columns that have similitude are together, and not separted by 40 columns definitions. Nor data, the columns definition.

    Another point is the use of the gui em, it's dificult because of pagination if columns that are related are far from each others.

    I read some articles and i think there is a tendency to minimize a problem that it's not so strightforward.

    Sorry for my english, i try my best.

    Is there a reason you could not simply create views to map the table's columns in the order desired? If there is no reason, you could leave the table alone.

    DB:3.28:Sort Columns In Datagridview 1d

    When you change a DisplayIndex value subsequent values in the DataGridViewColumnCollection are modified to ensure uniqueness of all of the DisplayIndex values. Therefore populating the DisplayIndex values in the DataGridViewColumnCollection from the last DisplayIndex value to the first avoid this problem.

    A code snippet example would be:

    this.grid.Columns[0].DisplayIndex = 2;
    this.grid.Columns[2].DisplayIndex = 1;
    this.grid.Columns[1].DisplayIndex = 0;

    Unfortunately I haven’t found this documented in the class library and there is no guarantee that future versions may change the internal handling of the DisplayIndex, but this seems to work for now.

    (the above is a slight correction to a previous post)

    I did the following workaround: I divided my large report into several smaller parts (different report regions); so now I can handle them much better during developmend ans there is a nicer look for my cutomers.

    So let me make a suggestion for future releases:
    I think a nice enhancement would be to group columns together.
    These new grouping-function can then be used for:
    .) Better navigation in large reports. (for developers)
    .) When each group has an additional title, this title can be shown to the custumer as a heading above / for the colums.
    .) More attributes can be added to these groups for different purposes (Security,.. and so on.)

    Hi All

    I have a table T1 with around 20 columns
    I create a composite unique index on Columns C1, C2, C3
    in that order.

    Now my question is does order of columns in the creation of indexes matter. If yes how do I choose the order

    Also while writing the query should I keep the same order.

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance

    Ashwin N.

    DB:3.26:Order Of Columns In Indexes f1

    The order of the columns in your query does not matter. As long as you have the leading columns of the index in the WHERE clause, Orcle will use the index if it is the best access path for that query.

    Having said that, Oracle 9 has a new access method, Index Skip Scan, which can use indexes in some circumstances, even when you do not have the leading columsn in the where clause.

    If you almost always query with all the columns in the composite index in the WHERE clause, I would always put the least selective column (the one with the fewest distinct values) first. As Andrew mentioned, with index compression it makes a smaller, and therefore faster, index. Even without index compression, it tends to be faster to query because many rows which share a common value for the leading column will be on the same index block (because they have the same value), rather than scattered throughout the index because they all have unique values.

    A third contradictory opinion, and again YMMV.

    DB:3.25:Sort Order Inconsistent Behavior ms

    There seems to be inconsistent behaviour when defining a default sort order sequence.

    Everything works as expected when the display sequence and the order in which the columns are defined in the query are the same but as soon as the display sequence is changed the default sort order doesn't work for the second column in the order sequence.

    I have put up an example at [apex.com|http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=36885:1]

    In report EMP the display sequence and query sequence are the same and the default sort on "Job" and "Hiredate" is correct working. Even when the user sorts on "Manager".
    The sort order sequence then becomes "Manager", "Job" and "Hiredate". As also descripted in the following Sorting on multiple columns
    And exactly the behaviour we are looking for.

    Report EMP2 is a copy of EMP with the only difference the order in which the columns are displayed
    Now the default sort order doesn't work as expected. The report is first ordered on "Job" but then on "Employee" instate of "Hiredate" as is defined. Interestingly "Employee" is the second column in the query.

    It seems that instate of the query_column_id the column_display_sequence is used in the order by. At least for the second column in the defined sort order sequence.

    This may also explain the behaviour mentioned with [derived columns and sort sequence|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1006429#1006429]

    The display sequence in report EMP2 is where the wizard came up with.

    First column has 100 distinct values
    Second column has 10 distinct values
    Third column has 10000 distinct values

    What would be the order of the these three columns in the primary key,
    It ALL depends on how the data will be used and the queries you will be writing.For a predicate that uses all primary key columns it makes no difference at all what the column order is.Many queries that don't specify the first column of the primary key can't use the index at all.Ever used a telephone book? They are ordered/indexed by last name and then first name.If you want to look someone up by first name only you have a BIG problem.Last name only works - you just use an index scan.Last name/first name works best.Since you didn't provide ANY info about how the data will actually be used we can't possibly provide any guidance on the column order,.See this blog on exactly your question by Oracle ACE and noted index expert Richard Footehttp://richardfoote.wordpress.com/2008/02/13/its-less-efficient-to-have-low-cardinality-leading-columns-in-an-index-right/

    Hello all:
    I am clearing the columns collection and re-adding columns back to a DataGridView programatically. Works just fine except for one detail; the columns are not being displayed in the order I am adding them to the collection. For some reason my button columns,
    which are added to the columns collection last, are appearing in the middle.
    I have been adding columns using the columns.AddRange() syntax.
    this.dgvResults.Columns.AddRange(new System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewColumn[]
    {
    this.gvcCol1,
    this.gvcCol2

    Once I saw this was randomizing the columns, I changed the last call to add columns to use the columns.Insert() syntax, like so:
    int count = this.dgvResults.Columns.Count;
    this.dgvResults.Columns.Insert((count), this.gvcCol14);
    this.dgvResults.Columns.Insert((count 1), this.gvcCol15);
    this.dgvResults.Columns.Insert((count 2), this.gvcCol16);
    But the button columns still wind up in the middle of the grid somewhere. Is there any guaranteed way to tack columns onto the very end of the collection?

    Huck

    DB:3.22:Set Order Of Columns In Windows Explorer 9j

    In another attempt to be "Helpful", folders are now one of several "types", which is automatically assigned according to what Explorer finds in there. The default view for that folder will be that which Explorer thinks is most helpful.

    For example, if the folder contains mostly music files, it will be deemed a music folder, and the default view will show the title, artist, play time, etc. Stuff that wouldn't be so helpful if it was, for instance a Document folder (most word docs don't
    have play times!)

    It doesn't always work well with folders of MOSTLY one type, but have others mixed it. It also doesn't always work well if you have file types that Windows doesn't know (like .FLV, which are videos, but in a format Windows doesn't natively support at the
    time of this writing).

    You can change the "type" by clicking ot the folder and choosing Customize, then using the top-most pull down where it asks "What kind of folder do you want?" then says to "Optimize this folder for". The types are: Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos.
    The checkmark below that will allow you to make the change to all subfolders as well.

    Therefore, the columns and order you choose for "Document" folders will not be the same when you go into a "Videos" folder.

    Hope that helps.

    The default order of collumnsin the notification is the order in which you created the collumns in the list.
    The only way to change the order I can find so far is, backup all list data, delete all collumns and recreate them. Then import the backed up list data.

    Hi to all,

    we've got with dimension which will be our column in an evDRE report. Unfortunately, the order asked by the user doesn't entirely match the order of the ID he provided us (which are also the IDs on the relation DB we're reading from).

    So, we need to change the order of the columns...

    We thought:

    - Change all the IDs in order to match the order of this very important report (but it's cumbersome, and we don't know if there is maybe other reports with custom orders)

    - Find a way to define a property in the dimension, so to use it for sorting the columns

    - Don't expand the column dimension, and set the members manually (hopefully they won't change?)

    I'm very interested to understand if the second possibility is feasible, and how, and if there is another approach to the problem...

    I had already read that web page, and what wonders me is the "indicating that the rows must be sorted according to the alphabetical order of the value of some property of a given dimension"

    What I need is the columns to be sorted, not the rows...that's way I thought this wouldn't work...am I right?

    Thank you

    DB:3.20:Default Sorting Order Used By Oracle 1c

    Can anyone please let me know whether oracle uses any default sort order or not when executing an sql which does not have any sort order/ order by clause?
    I have a sql query where no sort order is specified.
    Now if I add some more columns in the select clause and execute the same query, the number of records returned are same and also the records are same.
    But the order in which they are displayed is different from the previous query.

    Could anyone please let me know whether oracle uses any default sort order or not when executing an sql which does not have any sort order/ order by clause
    or does it depend on the columns of the table?

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:3.20:Default Sorting Order Used By Oracle 1c

    To answer your direct question "why the order in the previous example differ".

    When you added additional columns to the select list, that changed the query plan generated for the query. This caused Oracle to pick up the rows in a different order. There are a number of reasons this could happen, the new selected columns caused a different index (or no index) to be used for one of the tables in the query, it caused a different table to be be used as the "driving" table (i.e. the first one accessed), it caused a different join method to be used.

    Hi there
    I'm looking for a way to change the order of the colums in a list in SharePoint 2010. I only haveaccessto SharePoint Designer 2010 for editing the site.
    I already looked at the function to create custom views for lists. However this are only useful when viewing the list as a whole, however when you edit an existing, or create a new entry you will see

    first:the columns in the order in which they were created. and second: all of the columns. i cant find a way to make certain columns invisible for the user.

    I already looked through the functions that are given to me by SharePoint Designer 2010 when editing the columns of a list and I also checked for a way to change the order of the columns when surfing the actual website with Internet Explorer.

    Are you referring to data cloud tables and their strength, not much of source columns as source columns? Because sources will eventually get "associated" or "related to" one another.

    For screen/report output, Is there any advantage of using an order by clause in the underlying SQL over using the APEX sort attributes for the columns? Should the performance be the same?

    DB:3.20:Order By Vs. Sort Attribute 99

    bewise,

    The ApEx sort attributes when applied allows the user of the report to configure the sort order as they want to see it. Performance will depend on the result set of the query but for most part should negligible.

    DB:3.19:Query For Displaying Columns In Reverse Order ? sj

    apart from the physical data store implementation,
    are columns actually guaranteed ordering ? Guaranteed.... probably not, but they are in the data dictionary in the order in which they are created, so are known to be consistent in that respect.

    I don't think it's correct to refer to C(1)...C(n) ,
    they are just columns, there's no particular reason
    why one should come first or lastLikewise, I don't see the point in selecting columns out in a particular order unless you're trying to spool the output to a file.

    what is the significance of request_date in order header table.

    What does it exactly mean?

    Thanks

    DB:3.19:Request_Date In Order Headers fx

    request date is intended to represent the date the customer wants the order to arrive or ship. There is another field called request date type that indicates if the request date is an arrival date, or a shipment date.

    Request date is also on the order lines and the date on the header provides a default for the dates on the line.

    Request date is required to determine a scheduled shipment or arrival date.

    Hi,

    The issue with the default ordering of columns in the response table is something that we hope to address in the next update to FormsCentral. In the meantime, you can reorder the columns by selecting them then click/drag using the gray area above the column name. As shown below, an orange marker will show you where the columns will be placed when you release the mouse button.

    Hi,

    Yes, there is.

    In the top right of the column table, you will see a table icon, just above the scroll bar.

    After you have set up the columns to your liking, click on that icon. In the subsequent pop-up, enter a name in front of the variant field and click on the maintain variants button. Your user specific variant will be created. Click on save in the popup and FB50 will now open with that display variant.

    You can make multiple variants for specific postings and call any variant from the same icon.

    Is there an event that triggers when we do that?

    Hello Hraichi,

    I think Darg Drop event is not recognised in the table control. You will have to use class CL_GUI_ALV_GRID for that. you can check these programs BCALV_TEST_GRID_DRAG_DROP or BCALV_TEST_GRID_DRAG_DROP_02 . Meanwhile If you still wish to use table control, you can set the fixed columns field in the table control attributes in the screen painter to number of columns you have, so that all the columns will get fixed to their postions.

    There's a much easier way if you don't need to remove certain columns from the form.

    Go to your announcements list and select list settings. Then click advanced settings Then choose 'Allow management of content types?' YES Then edit your content type 'Announcement' by clicking on it in the middle of the list settings page
    Click on 'Column order'
    Here you will be able to reorder the columns in your forms. Simply set the order you'd like and then click OK

    Thanks in advance!

    Charles

    DB:3.18:Oracle Designer Column Generation Order sd

    Hi Charles,

    This is probably related to a bug, 2542516 (if you have access to MetaLink you can view it at http://metalink.oracle.com/). It should be fixed in release 9.0.4 (aka Designer 10g) which is available for download from OTN.

    If you prefer not to upgrade, I suggest that you change column order as a routine part of the post-transformation design process. Tedious, but you'll probably have to visit every table during design anyway.

    I hope this helps.
