What does it mean that my Plesk default certificate is used by 3? Every domain has its own certificate on my server.

1 would make sense (the Plesk panel itself), but why 3? Which 3?

Maybe its the mysql admin and the webmail interface?

DB:4.90:Plesk Default Certificate Is Used By 3 99

I searched the database by myself and found out that the default certificate is used by three different IP addresses, which are not used by any domain. Thats why I could not find a domain using that certificate.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Ive installed Plesk 8.1.1 on my FreeBSD 6.2 box (from ports).

Ive used SWsofts guide of installing SSL certs on specific domains.
Ive generated a private key, sent the csr to verisign and got it signed.

After receiving the signed certificate from VeriSign Ive copied it to Plesk and pasted the intermediate cert found here:
    http://www.verisign.com/support/verisign-intermediate-ca/secure-site-pro-intermediate/index.html

but after doing it plesk printed the following message: Warning: The CA certificate does not sign the certificate.

I kindely ignored the message as I could not find any solution to this and approached right to the next step and installed the certificate by entering the Setup link and selected my cert as the default for the domain. at this point everything looked fine and Plesk showed no errors.

I entered my site and checked the cert and it looks like plesks default certificate is still active there. I tried restarting my box but it didnt help.
I checked the conf/ dir and all the certificates specified in httpd.include are the correct ones.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    George

    Problem fixed,

I had to allocate the domain its own IP and then allocate the certificate to the IP.

DB:3.40:Plesk Main Cp Certificate On Vps m9

I am not sure if my problems are because I am on a VPS or not ...

I recently signed up for a VPS account with JaguarPC. They use Virtuozzo and I elected the Plesk 100 domain license option to start off (Plesk 8.6.0).

By default on a new installation you will get a certificate warning when going to the Plesk login page. Today I bought a new cert from RapidSSL (GeoTrust cheap cert). My intention was just to install a cheap cert that would work with Plesk CP so my future clients wouldnt get scared by a warning.

I am about to post a ton of info that is probably irrelevant to my dilemma, but I want to make sure I post as much info as possible to assist in finding the solution.

    - I have 3 dedicated IPs (1 main IP that is also my VPS shared IP and 2 more used for custom DNS IPs ... ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com)

    - My VPS is setup with hostname lunar1.mydomain.com and reverse DNS properly resolves from all 3 IPs (lunar1.mydomain.com = IP1 (shared), ns1.mydomain.com = IP2, ns2.mydomain.com = IP3)

    - I have set myself up as a client with a domain matching my hostname (mydomain.com) on the VPS shared IP (IP1)

    My steps for my cert:
    01. Logged in to Plesk using admin
    02. Went to ServerCertificatesAdd New Certificate
    03. Made up a name for the cert then filled in all necessary information and chose 2048 bit then clicked Request
    04. Purchased a cert from RapidSSLOnline using the Plesk generated CSR (actually took me to GeoTrust to complete the order)
    05. Received the cert and CA in email
    06. Pasted (from email) the info from GeoTrust and clicked Send Text
    07. Went back up to ServerCertificates and selected the new cert then clicked Use selected certificate for securing connections to control panel (long pause, then page came back).
    08. Selected new cert and clicked Use selected certificate for securing connections to newly hosted websites.
    09. Went to ServerIP Addresses and assigned the cert to all 3 IPs
    10. Went to ServerService Management
    11. Stopped both Apache and Bind
    12. Started Bind, then started Apache
    13. Tested Plesk control panel login and still received warning
    14. Restarted the whole VPS ... still no control panel cert

When I access https://www.mydomain.com:8443 it still shows the certificate warning and on inspection of the certificate it is still the default Plesk (self-issued) certificate. However, when I access https://www.mydomain.com everything is fine (inspecting the certificate shows the GeoTrust cert).

What am i missing here? How do I get it to work as the control panel cert? Is it somehow a limitation of using Plesk on a VPS (that would be REALLY dumb)?

DB:3.40:Plesk Main Cp Certificate On Vps m9

Err... I dont think this is the only solution.

If I recall correctly you just have to disable the offline management options in Virtuozzo, after which Plesk becomes kind of stand-alone.

Ive not actually tried it myself. This is just from memory. Or maybe this is only for VZ4?

Hi..I have a working webstart app over https distributed to the customers. Works fine but only one upcoming problem.

The server certificate is as usual validated by the JRE's own root certificate, stored in the file "cacerts". Webstart (1.2) is very strict in the sense that everything has to be correct or the app won't execute.

Now to the upcoming problem. The root certificate used to validate the server cert, is a Verisign class 3 certificate which is included default in almost all versions of JRE and webstart. The Problem is that this stupid root certificate expires on jan 2004, which in turn means that the app won't execute (I changed the PC clock to verify this).
There is no easy way to update the customers "cacerts" files.

I will not make them use the "keytool" command to do this themselves....NOT VERY USER FRIENDLY

The updates in JRE 1.4.2 seem to be promising as the certificate problem will be solved much the same way as in browsers. You get prompted that something is not 100% OK and you decide wether you want to continue or not.

Believe it or not but the stupid, soon expiring Verisign class 3 root certificate still seems to be included in JRE 1.4.2.

The Verisign class 3 root certificate in IE expires in 2028. Why not inlude this one in cacerts ??????????????

    regards

I obtained a Chained SSL via EV1SERVERS a few days ago. I seem to have serious problems to add it through Plesk.

I entered the information on the Certificate panel but receive the message that the private key is probably invalid. I used the CA option for the chain certificate.

This is not true. I installed the Chained SSL by hand in the domains home direcory include for httpd.conf (/home/httpd/vhosts/domainname...). When restarting Apache manually the certificate is accepted. Restarting it via the Control panel fails.

However, even when restarting it manually I am still running under the Plesk certificate.

The domain is based on an exclusive IP (via IP aliasing) and is the only domain on that address.

What am I supposed to do? Does Plesk support chained SSL?

DB:3.26:Importing Ssl Certificate Into Plesk! zz

    Hello

I have alredy checked all previous posts on this subject but didnt find my answer.

We have problems with importing the digital certificate into Plesk. Here is what weve done:

First we generated the certificate request manually within console with the command:
    /usr/bin/openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout /home/httpd/vhosts/studio-sever.si/conf/ssl.key/apache.kljuc -out apache_zahtevek.pem

Then after we got the certificate based on request we made, the key and the certificate files were not accepted by Plesk.

When we try to import the key and the certificate it says:
Unable to set the private key: Probably the private key format is invalid.

Now we are confused what could be wrong.
    1. Is there some kind of a rule that you must make a request within Plesk and not manually within console?
    2. Are there any rules on file names and extensions (we used: privatekey.txt, certificate.txt)?
    3. Or is there actually some issue on the character code or something within privatekey.txt.

We received the key with the begining as follows:
    -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
    Proc-Type: 4,ENCRYPTED
    DEK-Info: DES-EDE3-CBC,A6756FD6E3A7558A
    (one break line)
    [THE KEY]
    -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

We also tried to delete the first three lines:
    -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
    [THE KEY]
    -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

Also didnt work, the same error appeared!

So does anyone has any ideas or suggestions what could be wrong.
The first thing I want to be sure of is, if we followed the right steps? Meaning, manually generate request within console instead of making a request within Plesk.

Regards and thank you in adavnce!

Heres a frustrating one.... we have a dedicated Windows 2003 server with Plesk 7.5 installed, and are running 8 domains within Plesk (all our own sites). We are set up as the one and only client in Plesk and all domains are under that clients control. All share the same IP Address (listed as 192.168.27.77 Exclusive (8) in each sites setup page).

Ive just purchased and installed a new SSL certificate for one of the domains. The certificate was created and installed on that specific domains Certificates page, and is fully and correctly installed (all 4 icons are illuminated).

However on going back into the domains setup page and trying to use the certificate, I find no dropdown where there should be one next to Certificate, only the following:

    Default Certificate (Administrators repository)

and the SSL support checkbox is greyed our with the message:

(The IP address associated with this domain is already used by another domain for SSL support implementation)

This is obviously the same for all the other domains too ... however I dont want to share the certificate (hence why I installed it to that specific domain), just use it for this one domain.

How can I get round this and assign the certificate to the domain?

    Many thanks in advance

DB:3.17:[Solution] How To Update The Plesk Control Panel Sll Certificate kd

Since it took me quite some time to solve this problem, I hereby would like to share my findings on how to update the SSL certificate of the Plesk for Windows control panel when it’s expired (IE 7 shows these annoying error messages scaring people away). It’s probably not the most effective way to do this, but it did the job for me. Since I found quite some questions about this problem but no answers, I hope this will be of any help to anybody.

    1. First I opened the Certificates page on the Server Administration page in Plesk.
    2. I then clicked the Add new certificate button. The Create a new SSL certificate page opened.
    3. I filled in:
    a. Certificate name: in my case the server adres e.g. plesk.mydomain.com
    b. Bits: 512
    c. Country, state, location, organization, organization department: just fill in your details.
    d. Domain name: the URL of the plesk control panel e.g. plesk.mydomain.com (without http or portnumber).
    e. E-mail
    4. Push the request button, a new certificate is added in the certificates screen of your server.
    5. Open this new certificate by clicking on it and in the bottom of the page you will find the CSR. You need this to buy your certificate.
    6. Proceed to buy your SSL certificate (e.g. from GeoTrust). Eventually you will get your certificate by mail.
    7. Open again the recently added certificate in the server – certificate page and insert your certificate that your received per e-mail in the certificate field (copy – past) and click send text.
    8. You will find that the CSR, Private Key and Certificate are now shown at the bottom of the certificate page. Keep this page open for now.
    9. Login to your server by remote desktop (or any other RDC) and browse to your Plesk installation files.
    10. Go to the Swsoft\Plesk\admin\conf directory, here you will find the httpsd.pem file.
    11. Since we will be editing this file you probably want to backup it.
    12. Open httpsd.pem in notepad
    13. You will find two parts in this file, the part that stats with -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----- and ends with -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY----- and the second part starting with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and ending with -----END CERTIFICATE-----.
    14. As you might suspect, we need to copy this information from the certificate page that is still opened in step 8. Copy both the private key and the certificate in the httpsd.pem file and save it.

Other solution would be to create an in house(Microsoft probably) CA, and get a certificate for your ACS server. Go through the installation steps of Microsoft CA before, as the validity date for Server Certificate(i guess) is configured during initial install of CA.

Hi, I get SSL cert from Starfield.
Did anyone of you have it successfully installed through Plesk?

They gave me the following links:
    1. http://certificates.starfieldtech.com/InstallationInstructions.go
Installing by use of SSH is beyond my knowledge, unless someone will want to walk me trough?

The direct link for the CA certificate as well as the intermediate certificate is:
    2. https://certificates.starfieldtech.com/Repository.go
    So downloaded sf_issuing.cer.

What I understood so far is that I need to replace default certificate with the certificate from Starfield, it will be a superior? root? whatever you name it cert.
I tried to do that . But it seems impossible to do. When I clicked on System Add New Certificate it brings me to Create a new SSL certificate window.
Why do I have to create the cert while I already have one downloaded? So this is not really Add New Certificate feature.
I go up level back I tried to add cert by sending the file, error:
Unable to find appropriate private key for the certificate

The second step is installing the cert for my domain.com
Which is done but CA part. And there is the same thing, whichever cert from Starfield
I tried to add as CA cert (Upload Certificate file ) there is error:
Unable to set CA Certificate: the CA Certificate does not sign the Certificate

    Im stuck completely, please help
    In the other words: nightmare

Thank you in advance for any tips
    George

    DB:3.07:Instantssl Ca Certificate Woes ca

I have scoured these forums and found several people having the following problem, and even a few potential solutions... but still I am unable to make this happen.

I am trying to install an InstantSSL certificate from Comodo in Plesk 7 on a RedHat 9 server. We have one IP shared across the entire server. I have a certificate for the domain httpsafe.com that I want to be used for both the admin panel and any secure files on the httpsafe.com site. Therefore, I have installed the certificate in both the default and domain sections of Plesk. In both instances I have installed my Private Key, Certificate, and a combined file which contains both the ComodoSecurityServicesCA and GTECyberTrustRootCA certificates (which is the only way Plesk will accept the CA).

I reboot Plesk, and the certificate is there, yet I get the The site cannot be verified message when I visit the secure domain. So then, I found the solutions by jimroe here:

    http://forum.sw-soft.com/showthread.php?s=threadid=11953highlight=Instant+SSL

    and

    Jan here:

    http://forum.sw-soft.com/showthread.php?s=threadid=12396highlight=SSL

So I SSL into the server and changed the httpsd.conf and httpsd.conf.def files in the usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ directory to include:

    SSLCACertificateFile /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/rootchain.pem

I also checked to insure rootchain.pem contained the correct two CA Certificates.

Then I rebooted Plesk. Still getting the unverified errors.

So I am at a loss. I dont know what Im doing wrong and this as seem to work for most people. Here are some other things Ive looked at that may or may not have an effect:

There is also a httpsd.conf.default file in same admin/conf directory. It has directives commented out that say:

    #SSLCACertificatePath /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ssl.crt
    #SSLCACertificateFile /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ssl.crt/ca-bundle.crt

    and

    #SSLCARevocationPath /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ssl.crl
    #SSLCARevocationFile /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ssl.crl/ca-bundle.crl

Should I change these as well?

Also, even though Ive changed my default certificate to be httpsafe.com, Plesk still shows the original certificate that came with Plesk as being used by 1 IP and my new certificate as being used by 0 IPs. We only have the one shared IP, and it is my understanding you can only have one SSL certificate per IP. But I cant delete the original default. Could this be causing a problem?

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Heres what Ive done so far:
    1. had plesk create the CSR. I pasted in the cert and CA.

    3. under server ip address, I made the appropriate domain the default domain. I also specified the new certificate under the IP address.

    What step did I miss?

PS this is running on a Virtuozzo VPS, if that matters. When I visit the Virtuozzo port (4643), I get yet another certificate, which looks like the ISPs cert.

EDIT: I have deleted all other certificates from the server and domain control pannels. There is one certificate in plesk -- yet port 443 continues to issue the mystery self-signed certificate.

vhosts/example.com/conf/httpd.include is calling the right cert. Something is apparently overriding this setting.

Within the IP pool for the client, the IP for this domain is assigned to the correct certificate. The certificate was generated from GeoTrust using a CSR that was generated from within Plesk.

When the domain is accessed by https, there is a browser security warning about the name not matching. The certificate identified within the warning is the Plesk default certificate, not the one that I added.

There is another domain on the same server that has a certificate set up exactly the same way and it works fine, but it was installed before upgrading to Plesk 7.

Been there, done that. Within the setup page for the domain, there is an IP selector and just below it is a comment about which security certificate is assigned. It shows the correct certificate.

We have a fresh install of Plesk 7.x reloaded which has been updated

A domain has been created and is running on a dedicated ip address.

My customer purchased an instantssl certificate and pasted the information into the required fields for a new cert.

    The cert shows up.

We change the certificate for the domain(via the setup system/button) from the default repository to the customers certificate.

    We restart plesk, and httpd.

When we go to the secure site, the ssl certificate is still the default plesk certificate(which causes the ssl error popup).

We have checked and double checked. We have even deleted the cert and recreated it and followed the same procedure to add it.

Why does it always use the default plesk certificate?

You might have misread the post. In my case, I changed the protection on the .pem file to 777 and then restarted. After the restart, the protection was reverted back to the original values. So, for me at least, there seemed to be no harm or unwanted consequences.

    Hi guys,

I would like each of my clients who have a dedicated IP address and an SSL certificate to be able to use their own domain name (and own certificate) when sending mail on ports 465 or 587. I have managed to change the default certificate used by Postfix to my own servers certificate, but I want users to use their OWN IP address and SSL certificate when sending, so this is not an option.

I have been able to update Dovecot to use a specific certificate for each IP address, but I cant seem to update Postfix. I was trying to follow these instructions but my postfix master.cf was quite different than the posters file and I didnt succeed: http://forum.odin.com/threads/mail-ssl.210348

I know many people will simply say it cant be done or just get the users to use the shared IP address, but I know there must be some workaround to make this work, even if it means manually updating the config file after every Plesk update. Im even prepared (if possible) to have Plesk abandon management of Postfix and have me manage it manually, if thats even an option. Anything to get this to work.

    Thanks,
    MrRay

DB:3.01:Geotrust Ssl Certificate Wont Work. Any Ideas? 3k

Let me start off by saying Ive done my research on this and cant find an answer anywhere. Am I doing something wrong?

Here are the steps I followed. The website www.domain.com used to be on a shared IP, and I have since switched it under hosting setup to be an exclusive IP as SSL needs to be an exclusive IP. All my shared websites point to NS1.BLUEWEBSTUDIOS.COM and NS2.BLUEWEBSTUDIOS.COM. This is my company website. Ive left this the same at the registrar for this www.domain.com website using the new exclusive IP.

    1) I requested the CSR from the www.domain.com certificates section and passed that on to GeoTrust with whom Im ordering an SSL cert.

    2) They sent me the certificate and I added that to the www.domain.coms certificate. Im assuming I do not need a CA certificate.

    3) I then chose to use this new GeoTrust certificate under the clients IP pool for the new exclusive IP. The new IP and certificate shows properly under the hosting setup for the www.domain.com website.

    4) Now that the certificate is complete and supposedly assigned to the www.domain.com website, I restarted the server.

However, I now notice the cerificate is by an unknown authority when using https on the website. Basically, it does not work. The http version shows the default Plesk page instead of the actual clients website that is set up. The clients website showed just fine before. Using the exclusive IP address in the browser also shows the default Plesk page. Pinging the www.domain.com website DOES show the correct exclusive IP.

Does anyone have any ideas? Why would the default Plesk page be showing instead of the website? Do I need to add a server certificate too? The GeoTrust Premium standard certificate I purchased was only for the www.domain.com website.

    Help!

    - Matt.

DB:3.01:Geotrust Ssl Certificate Wont Work. Any Ideas? 3k

After trying everything I could think of, I went ahead and deleted the entire domain. I then recreated it and assigned it an exclusive IP by default. Last time I had moved from shared to exclusive. Everything now works just fine. Makes me wonder what happened before as the settings right now look identical. I certainly cant complain.

I wonder if there is a bug when moving a domain from a shared IP to an exclusive IP. The only other thing that could have been the problem is I used the Switch icon while experimenting at first. But I had then changed it back again to be master DNS.

    Hi everyone,

After a day of mucking around reading the plesk documentation and various posts I have put together a step by step guide to installing ssl certificates for domains and securing the plesk login. Unfortunately the plesk domentation is a little short in this area so I hope you find the below useful.

    Plesk Installing SSL certificates

    1. Log into Plesk
    2. Go to the domain where you want to install the ssl certificate
    3. Click Certificates Icon
    4. Add New Certificate
    5. Fill out all the details and make sure you use www.thedomainname.com as www is a different domain than securing just thedomainname.com. Bits is normally 1024.
    6. Then click request to generate the CSR (certificate signature request) which will be sent to the CA(certificate authority) to generate a valid certificate.
    7. In the list of certificates, click the download button to download the CSR to your hard drive.
    8. Buy an ssl certificate. eg. GeoTrust quick SSL from ev1servers.net
    9. Enter the domain name to secure as www.thedomainname.com
    10. Open the CSR file into notepad and copy into the fields on the site where you are buying your ssl certificate.
    11. Wait for phone validation etc.
    12. You may also need to download the root CA certificates from the website of your chosen certificate authority eg. http://www.geotrust.com/resources/root_certificates/index.htm Normally if you purchased a quick ssl you will need to download the Root 1 - Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. However for some reason the last one I purchased needed Root 2 - Equifax Secure eBusiness CA-1. Which ever is the right one download and save as ca_certificate.txt.
    13. You will then receive the ssl certificate via email.
    14. Select just the certificate and copy into notepad and save as certificate.txt
    15. Log into Plesk
    16. Go to the domain certificates
    17. Then where it says Find the appropriate private key to the certificate.CERTIFICATE: click the browse button and choose the certificate.txt file on your hard drive.
    18. Click on the certificate in the list.
    19. In the CA (certificate authority) field click the browse button and locate the certificate authority file on your hard drive ca_certificate.txt and click send file.
    20. If you receive the error Unable to set the CA certificate: The CA Certificate does not sign the Certificate this means that you have the wrong CA certificate. Try the other one I suggested in point 12 or contact your certificate authority and ask them to send you the correct CA root certificate.
    21. Once your certificate appears ok in the list you then need to ensure that the ip address used by the domain name is exclusive. This can be checked in Server IP Aliasing.
    22. If you need to make any changes click on the ip address and then make it exclusive.
    23. If there still appears to be other domain names using the ip address, go into each domain name setup and change to another ip address.
    24. Now go to the domain name you want to secure setup
    25. Select the exclusive ip address and your ssl certificate which should appear in the drop down menu.
    26. Now go to Server Reboot. This normally takes about 3 mins to do.
    27. Finally test your ssl certificate by going to https://www.thedomainname.com and the padlock should work without any errors.
    28. If you want to secure the login page to plesk on the main server, go to Server Certificates Add New Certificate
    29. Enter the same details except this time you have all the relevant files on your hard drive. So select the .pem, certificate, and ca_certificate.txt files and choose send file.
    30. Now you can access your control panel by https://www.thedomainname.com:8443/. For this to work thedomainname.com must be using the main ip address on your server.

    DB:2.96:Help With Ssl... f9

Okay, so this is a couple years later on this thread! Ha ha. Im still with Plesk 6 on this box. Anyway Ive learned pretty much everything posted above. I made the same mistake and tried to install a cert on a shared IP. Would of been nice knowing that when I purchased my cert. Anyway...

However now I have switched the domain setup to an exclusive IP and all I can see is the default page in a browser at my domain url. How long will it take DNS to update? Is that the problem? I was able to select my new cert in the repository.

Will this all pop up working in 24 to 48 hours?

Or will my certificate even be any good since the IP has changed?

It seems like SSL should be much much easier.

    Thanks!

    Hello, guys.

Im a little bit confused about SSL certificate for the control panel.

Im using a brand new installation of Linux Ubuntu 12.04 with Plesk 11.09 #38

I have generated an official signed certificate using Plesk GUI. Everything is fine; the certificate was added at the panel and I get it into the list of SSL certificates.
After that, I have checked the box in front of the new certificate and I clicked on “use this certificate as standard for the panel†(something like this, because I’ve a German frontend ;-)).
At last I have deleted the default certificate.
Now, in the list is only one certificate which shows me the number “1†under “usedâ€. This means (for me) the new certificate is used by one domain (the control panel), right?

I open a new browser an enter https://alias.domain.tld:8443 and still get a message about a no valid certificate. But https://alias.domain.tld occurs no error and I get the right (new) certificate.

Now I don’t know where the “old†(no validated) certificate came from.

The folder /usr/local/psa/var/certificates show me three files, instead of one.

Can someone give be a hint what I can do to deleted the old default certificate completely and to map the new certificate for the control panel?!

    Thanks a lot in advance!

DB:2.93:Ssl Certificate Installation Problem (Geotrust) 8j

    Hi everyone,

I have just bought a ssl certificate from GeoTrust using the plesk Buy Cert button.
I completed the process at GeoTrust and bought a GeoTrust - QuickSSL Premium certificate.
When I login to myplesk.com I can see my certificate, but I dont seem to be able to install it right.

When the purchase process was completed, I received an email from GeoTrust containing my Your Web Server Certificate
    -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
    something
    -----END CERTIFICATE-----

To find out how to install the certificate I searched in the Plesk Users Guide and found the topic Obtaining and Installing SSL Certificates from GeoTrust, Inc. or GoDaddy

As stated in the help guide I copied the certificate from the email to a file, and from the Domains domain name Certificates I clicked the Browse button and selected my certificate and clicked Send File. When I did that I got the followig error:

Error: Unable to find the appropriate private key for the certificate.

I do not know why it says the private key is not appropriate for the certificate, because when I clicked the Buy Cert button, the plesk system created my certificate (www.cyberbit.com), containing a CSR and a Private Key, by it self, just as described in the users guide. So I assume that the plesk system has sent the CSR to GeoTrust, because I was not asked to fill in any CSR when I bought the certificate from GeoTrust as I usually am when buying the certificate manually.

I have spent several hours looking through this forum, googled and read user manuals to find out what I have done wrong but without success.

I am fairly certain that I have chosen the right certificate for my domain, when I go to Domains cyberbit.com Setup it states:
    IP Address: 192.168.x.x Exclusive (1)
Certificate: www.somedomain.com (Repository of domain somedomain.com)
which is the certificate I bought and also the only certificate present, except for the plesk default.

If anyone have any ideas why I get this error it would be greately appreciated.

    Thanks

Just to update this post --- I had an interesting issue a few days ago. It isnt totally related to this (though it might be), but worth posting about anyway.

No matter what I did, I got a CA Certificate does not sign Certificate error in Plesk, whether I added the certificate via the domain or via the admin side of things.

Now, heres the key thing: If I ignored the error and tried to view the website via https://, I did not get a certificate error. I got a blank page.

In general what this means is that there really is a problem with the private key and the certificate -- they dont match.

It turned out that -- well, either I copied the wrong CSR when requesting the certificate, or the certificate issuing company got something wrong.

The solution was just to start again - I created a new CSR and got the certificate re-issued based on the new CSR. It installed with no problems at all.

    Faris.

p.s. if you have two CA certificates, the order that they go in is important!

    DB:2.93:Token Decrypting Certificate Questions cx

    Hi everyone,
My understanding of the token decrypting certificate is that it's optional and that is not used by default.
It looks like I got half if right when last week the token decrypting certificate expired and federation with several RP's broke!
To resolve the breakage, I created a self signed certificate in IIS, added it as the new token decrypting certificate and restarted the service. Fixed......for now.
Before anyone asks, we have certificate roll over disabled as we prefer to use our own internal CA for the token signing certificate.

Additionally I found the Powershell commands to disable token encrypting so disabled it on one RP as a test.
After reading several articles it seems you have to send your RP'sa newtoken decrypting certificate if they cannot consume metadata remotely. Another admin hassle. (Token signing and Token Decrypting certificate updates).
    My questions:
    1. Does anyone hereuse the token decrypting certificate and if so, how do youhandle the administration when its time to change it over? If you don't use it, how have you switched it off for your Relying Party connections?
    2. Is it possible to have automatic certificate rollover just for t
    3. Is there an easy way to disable the use of this certificate or do you have to manuallyset each RP to not use encrypted tokens?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    DB:2.93:Token Decrypting Certificate Questions cx

Our ADFS setup only has relying parties - we connect to resources in partner domains, we don't act as an identity providor.

My understanding is that you ARE acting as an identity provider since your resource partners’ web apps are relying on your ADFS server to provide them with claims (or assertions
    in SAML terms).
Here’s a breakdown on the terminology:
    -
Company that hosts the resourcethatusers access = Relying Partner (ADFS term) or Service Provider (SAML term)
    -
Company that provides claims in the form of atoken to the relying party = Claims Provider (ADFS term) or Identity Provider (SAML term)
Again, that’s my understanding so please correct me if I’m wrong.

As for your RP trusts breaking, that is weird. It’s like Dominick says, the decrypting cert is only used if you were the relying party and your resource partners were the claims providers issuing encrypted tokens to you.
The only thing I can think of is the wrong cert was specified for outgoing encryption.
I have seen the RP wizard choose the self-signed decrypting cert over other certs before.
But you also would have had to send your resource partner the wrong exported cert so they could decrypt it. Other than that I'm not sure what else it could be, sorry.

I have created a private and CSR key directly with apache mod_ssl and got a certificate from Thawte for these keys (not made in plesk!).

now I cant get this keys running with Plesk because
    1) Plesk has its own private key and CSR in place at /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/httpsd.pem
    2) when I upload my custom generated keys in Plesk it misses the CSR component and the certificate is not accepted by Plesk (invalid certificate format)

what I need to know is where can I override the default key (CSR Private Key) pair in plesk with my keys that has been the foundation for the assigned certificate by Thawte?

I tried to create an new file vhost_ssl.conf in folder /var/www/vhosts/my_domain.com
vhost_ssl.conf only witht the new directive SSLCertificateFile /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/httpsd-new.pem (do I need the before and in the end of the location and filename?)

I have located the httpsd-new.pem file with my custom privat and CSR key in /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ (where the original file httpsd.pem is located from plesk)

But w/out any effect (restarted plesk and apache)

where is the right place to override plesk apache conf files?

    Thx

Is there a plesk 9 documentation for this with the directories that plesk uses to override all the apache directories like httpd.con (httpd.include), vhost.conf etc.????

I have a co-located server with Plesk 8.2.1 on CentOS 4.5 and have set up a few clients and domains under those clients. self-signed means exactly that -- not signed by a CA.

Certificates are a bit of a misnomer, actually.

What a certificate actually is, is a public key, that is then signed by someone elses private key.

However, a self-signed certifcate is just a public key signed by its OWN private key.

You use the CA Cert section when using someone like GoDaddys certificate services, where you need to upload an intermediate certificate, since GoDaddys root cert is not installed in most browsers.

Since GoDaddys root cert is actually signed by another organization, in order to have browsers recognize it, you have to pass the intermediate cert down the line.

The second issue is regarding the .com and .is domains. The symptoms are identical so I will describe the environment and results for just one. A certificate request was created for mydomain.com and a private key generated. A certificate was purchased from an external authority. When installing the certificate I get Error: Unable to set the certificate: Incompatible private key/certificate pair. I have also tried loading the appropriate CA certificate at the same time but with the same result.

I am beginning to feel that this problem is caused by having two sites on the same IP and probably having a default certificate as well because a browser access of either of the domains through an https request brings up a certificate error and further investigation shows that the cert being presented is the plesk default certificate.

I would appreciate some guidance here.

    1) I have successfully got a cerificate issued from Thawte. When I uploaded the cerificate, it is not used until I assigned it later in the IP Address.

When I read the documentation from Plesk, it stated:

1a) If domains IP is allocated exclusively to a single client, then go to Clients your client name IP Pool domains IP address select the required SSL certificate name from the SSL certificate drop-down box.

1b) If domains IP is shared among many clients, then go to Server IP Addresses domains IP address select the required SSL certificate name from the SSL certificate drop-down box.

In part a), I was happy to see the cerificate that can be selected for the single client.

However, in part b) I cant see the SSL cerificate for selection. What have I done wrong?

    2) I also notice that there is a CA Certificate in the SSL certificate management. What is that used for?

    3) Lastly, if I am not wrong, the SSL cerificate purchased can be used by many clients. Am I right? If so, this can solve all our problems with SSL certificate shared among all the customers. Just wonder if I am right in this sense.

Your CA part of the cert will probably need to be inserted with plesk. Im not sure if thawte is already in browsers cert repositories.

I have received the information back and applies it and set it to the SSL certificate to be used for my domain, done this from Tools Utilities IP Addresses.

    Current Configuration:
    IP Address: dedicated
    SSL Certificate: SSLCert
    Default Site: mysite.com

I have tried restarting the server and apache with no success. When I go to https:// my domain in chrome it says the certificate is incorrect. I look at the certificate and it says it’s owned and created by my server (presuming when Plesk first installs). Its not using the one I setup called SSLCert.

I have also tried it from command line with
    /usr/local/psa/bin/certificate --assign-cert SSLCert -domain mydomain.com -ip MyIP

Got back a response saying: Unable to assign certificate for the following IP address: unable get certificate id: certificates with name SSLCert not exist

    Server: CentOS release 6.3 (Final)
    Plesk: 10.3.1

Any ideas with be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help, but im still having issues on the last step.

I cant find the Website Scripting and Security section under the advanced options also when im in the secure your sites section it has a message at the top of the scree saying After adding an SSL certificate to a domain, you need to enable SSL support and select that certificate in the website hosting settings.

Im thinking this version of Plesk is broke, Ive checked various ways to getting it to function with no luck.

When ever i put https:// on the front of my domain it says the certificate is invalid.

Is it possible to bypass Plesk doing the task and do it directly?

When you assign another SSL certificate to default plesk control panel other than the default Plesk one, and run Plesk reconfigurator it resets back to the old certificate.

Problem with SNI and Plesk 10.4 on Debian [Solved]

    Hello,

i upgraded one of our Machines to Plesk 10.3 from 9.4 after that i upgraded Debian Lenny to Debian Squezze.
    All went fine without problems.

Shortly after that i upgraded to Plesk 10.4.

We now try to setup SNI but it fails. For every Site the Default certificate is used.
This line in the apache logfile tells me, that SNI is enabled in the apache Webserver and working.

[Wed Nov 30 13:45:52 2011] [warn] Init: Name-based SSL virtual hosts only work for clients with TLS server name indication support (RFC 4366)

It seems that Plesk does note recognize, that the Server is SNI capable.

    Any ideas why?

    Thanks for your help.

    Not yet.

But after i changed it and restarted the psa service i was able to select a certificate in the
    hosting settings for the Domain.

Now the website uses the correct certificate.

    Hi,

I am running Plesk 7 Reloaded on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.

A few clients cannot use the Plesk control panel, since their corporate firewall doesnt allow outbound connections to non-standard ports, like port 8443 used by the Plesk web server.

Is there any way to access the Plesk control panel using the standard SSL port (443)?

    Thanks.

Hello, I am running Plesk on Linux with Apache. I ordered an SSL certificate and just received it. The problem Im having is that I accidentally used Apache to create my CSR, and now I need to add my Certificate to Plesk. So I go to Server-Certificates-AddNew and the scroll down to Add New Certificate as Text. There are three fields here, Private Key, Certificate, CA Certificate. I know what to put into the Private Key field, but what do I put into the Certificate and CA Certificate fields? It seems the the field Certificate is a little vague, I dont know what Plesk is looking for here. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the info. I actually got it to work by doing what you said but I had to do it at the server level. If I did it at the domain level, then the certificate would not show up when I went to select it for an exclusive IP address. Im not sure why, but it works now, SSL is up and running, thanks!

    Hi,

it seems like SSL certificates are not handeled correctly on shared IPs.

I got several domains and one IP, one of my domains is a webshop which needs a working SSL certificate, so up until now I installed this certificate for the IP and it worked. After updating to Plesk 10.0.1 there is another (wrong) certificate installed for the IP which I cant change as it seems. Or better I can change it in plesk and it is shown correctly in plesk, but if i go to the domain another certificate is used...

I have set the certificate under Start Server Tools Ip Adresses

If I go to Websites Domains Web Hosting Settings of one of the domains using this shared IP, the correct SSL certificate is shown.

But if I go to the domain (by browser https://...) the certificate which is used is a total different one. It is a Plesk generated/expired one.

This one is crucial, as the shop is more or less out of order, as long as the wrong cert is used.

    Thanks for your help.

    DB:2.86:Ssl On Shared Ip d7

The issue you all might be experiencing is the support in Plesk 10+ for SNI in Apache if the version of Apache installed has that feature. SNI allows a browser to inform the server of what site it plans to request prior to the SSL connection being established. So, in Plesk 10, if you have an SSL installed at the site level on a shared IP, it will only work correctly if youre using an SNI-capable browser. Alternatively, if youve installed an SSL on the shared IP with the intent that it be used for all the sites on that IP, such as a shared SSL, that will not work correctly unless you also install it at the site level and assign it.

If you do the install at the IP level and a browser that doesnt support SNI accesses the site, it will work correctly. However, if you are trying to use unique SSLs on each site and the browser doesnt support SNI, or the server doesnt support SNI, that will never work correctly. Since a lot of older browsers are still out there, youre basically stuck using unique IPs for each unique SSL-based site, for at least probably a couple more years.

DB:2.85:/Vhosts/Default Directory Is Not Behaving As Expected dm

I have a really strange problem with the default vhost directory.

From what I understand the directory /var/www/vhosts/default/htpdocs should be used when there is no hosting setup for the domain (and the domain has valid DNS records pointing to the server) or if the domain is suspended in the panel.

The problem is when I type such domain in a browser or type in the IP address directly I get automatically redirected from http to https (which is also a problem) then one of the 3 things happen:
a.) if the directory /var/www/vhosts/default/htpdocs is empty I get the default apache page (thats expected).
b.) if there is an index.html file with only plain text inside, it loads and displays as expected
c.) if there is an index.html file with actual valid html inside it, the server loads content from the first still active domain on that IP (but without any images, css and other linked files)

    The questions I have are:
Why is redirection from http to https happening?
How is it even possible to have such a strange behevior with vhosts/default/htpdocs directory?

    Additional info:
    - Plesk Panel for linux v11.0.9 Update #60
    - CentOS 6.4 with default centos repositories
    - /var/www/vhosts/default/htpsdocs directory has no impact whatsoever
    - The setting in the Plesk panel for the IPs, have none as the default website and default plesk certificate

I have no idea where to even begin searching for this strange behavior. The apache and nginx config files (the global ones and the plesk autogenerated ones) seem to be ok, there are no signs that http to https redirection should be even happening.

DB:2.85:How To Override A Stuck Default Ssl Certificate 9s

I got tired of Plesk 8s inability to properly assign a SSL certificate so I have a workaround for those of you who want one. This fix works for both subdomains and base TLDs.

    1. Add your SSL certificate to Plesk. Make sure it is properly installed and recognized by Plesk. Also be sure your domain/subdomain is enabled for SSL.
    2.Do the following in SSH

    Code:

DB:2.85:How To Override A Stuck Default Ssl Certificate 9s

    Another solution...

I had a similiar problem where the certificate wouldnt take on the main domain. I had to switch the domain to a different ip - then the certificate worked and I switched it back to the origional ip.

Also for the subdomain on this site I used Highlands brilliant solution so that a child subdomain could use a different certificate than the parent domain. I called Plesk support and they said there is no way to do this in Plesk yet, but that it should be a feature of Plesk 9.0

Im running Fedora Core 2 with Plesk 7.5 reloaded and I have several domains setup on this box. I have installed a Comodo Instant SSL for one of the domains, and the installation went very smooth and seemed to work fine. However when I visit the site through a browser, it gives me the Security Warning box saying that the names dont match. Upon further investigation, by clicking the Install Certificate button, it shows that the certificate it is using is the default certificate installed with Plesk for the server and not the domain specific one that I purchased and installed from Instant SSL.

How do I set it to use the domain certificate and not the server, or IP address certificate? Do I need to purchase another dedicated IP for that domain?

    Thank you.

DB:2.85:Not Use Default Ssl Certificate 7d

Yeah, that was the problem I was having. In 7.5 plesk will not allow you to select another certificate unless the domain is set to exclusive and assigned to that IP address.

So the answer is yes, you need a dedicated IP address to get the SSL certificate to work.

After that, it worked fine for me.

Just did another fresh full server backup and restore using the pleskbackup and restore utilities and noticed these things.

Restore was from CentOS release 4.8 (Final) 32bit to centos 4 CentOS release 4.8 (Final) 64bit running the latest plesk 9.3 (9.3.0-cos4.build93091230.07)

    1. SSL certificates are still being reset to the default certificate for all sites.
    2. Server SSL certificate was not migrated.
    3. Reseller account templates are reset to default.
    4. Atmail and Horde databases are not restored (so all users loose their contacts if you dont backup and restore the databases manually).
    5. Use a single directory for housing SSL and non-SSL content preference state is not migrated.

I also checked the /usr/local/psa/PMM/rsessions/migration.result file their were no meaningful errors that would explain these objects not being restored properly.

    The command used to backup
    /usr/local/psa/bin/pleskbackup server -s

    The command used to restore
/usr/local/psa/bin/pleskrestore --restore /var/lib/psa/dumps/backup_info_1003161155.xml -level server -license -verbose

I hope this will help getting these issues worked out.

Interesting that you are also not getting any database information restored...I have just done a restore on a selected domain, and the database content for a deep joomla site was not restored at all...And I used the correct specifications throughout the process...I am on 9.3..

This is very scary to think you have everything diligently backed up, then find upon restore that is not the case...

I think there has to be more information for the consumer regarding these backup/restore issues...many people rely on this for their livelyhood.
For example, in the restore procedural information given, there are various examples given for the restore utility command line, but there are absolutely no discussions involving troubleshooting and failures, etc...why not? So, as a result, we have to go to this or other forums for trouble shooting information...after the fact...after the failure...after the costly manual restoration...

    DB:2.83:Problem With Rapidssl Certificate c9

    Hello all, first time here.

I have this problem in a server where I tried to install a SSL certificate x.509.

I have set some config options in httpd.conf to install that certificate and restarted apache, quite ok until this point.

When I check via SSChecker I see that the real certificate for the appropriate domain (I have lots of domains hosted in this server) is under the plesk certificate, as a chain certificate.

The question is, how can I fix this not messing up with the Plesk Panel I use (via https)?

Check it out the result here: http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=www.armazemdasaliancas.com.br

Can I remove the default certificate in Plesk Administration without causing any trouble to my Plesk Panel?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:2.83:Problem With Rapidssl Certificate c9

Francisco, this is nolonger the case with Plesk 10.* + Plesk 11.*. With these versions now you can use the same shared IP address with different SSL certificates. This they use Apache SNI.

One of the reason you should upgrade to Plesk 11.*

Is there a way to have all name-based hosts use the same certificate that is on the server. The cert that I installed is only being enforced through plesk admin, but the default Plesk cert is coming up whenever a name-based host uses SSL.

The file you need to copy is cert/httpd.pem from the domain you have installed the certificate under.

I have setup a certificate on a domain with a dedicated IP. When I go into the SETUP for that doain, it shows that it is using the new certificate I have installed.

However, when I go to the site from a browser, it still uses the default PLESK certificate.

I have power-cycled the server 3 times thinking that perhaps it needed a reboot.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

    Hi

    My System:
    Ubuntu 12.04
    Plesk 12.0.18 Update #18
    Only Webserver no mail

    What I want:
I have an old sha1 certificate and I would change this for the whole server.

What I have done so far:
I have already uploaded the new sha256 certificate with a new private key to plesk (I can not simply replace the old one, plesk does not allow me to upload a new private key).
Then I set the new certificate as standard certificate and pressed the secure pannel button.
After that the pannel uses the new certificate.
Then I set in Tools Settings - IP Addresses on both IP addresses the new certificate.
    Reboot

But now the Tools Settings - SSL Certificates shows me that the old certificate is still used 2 times somewhere. But the Interface does not show where it is used.
How can I find out where this certificate is used?
I want to remove the old certificate from the server.

DB:2.82:Plesk 12 Change The Default Certificate sm

Not the best solution, but I had luck.
The first 2 domains in the list used the old certificate.
I changed them to Not selected so they all use now the default certificate.

But would be really nice if there is an other way to find this domains.

I'm having trouble replacing the default self-signed Netgear certificate with the certificate I purchased from GoDaddy. Here's what I've done so far, hopefully someone can point out what I'm not doing right

I generated a Self Certificate Request, used the code generated by that to obtain a certificate from GoDaddy, then attempted to upload the certificate I got from GoDaddy under the section Upload certificate corresponding to a request above. When I do the upload all I get is Invalid Certificate.

I have found that I can upload the certificate I got from GoDaddy if I do it under the section Upload Trusted Certificate. It uploads and I can see the certificate, but when I connect to the router I still get a domain name mismatch because the security certificate belongs to Netgear...

So obviously I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm also thinking it shouldn't be this hard

    DB:2.82:Fvs336g Certificate xz

Anyone hear anything at all about installing an SSL cert?

I've got an open support case, but I'm not getting anything useful out of them at this point... heck I'd like to hear of anyone that's successfully installed an SSL cert from any SSL authority. Or for that matter can I get the step-by-step instructions used to generate the image jmizoguchi posted?

This is a great router, but if you can't even install an SSL cert (and other than the screen shot below I don't think its possible) then its not much use in the real world as an SSL gateway.

I have a server with a number of domains virtual hosted. I want to install an SSL certificate on one of those domains. This will be the only certificate on the box. Only the domain the certificate has been issued for will use HTTPS.

When I configure the certificate for the given domain, it does not appear to be used. The browser reports a certificate for localhost. Ive assigned it to the IP Pooling.

Does anybody have step by step instructions / troubleshooting info for how to make this work? It appears to me that Apache is not using the correct certificate.

Also, I notice that when I make changes through Plesk, the http.include file is not updated. If I modify the certificate, the httpd.include contains a reference to the previous sslcertificatefile which prevents httpd restarting.

DB:2.81:Ssl Certificate With Virtual Hosting cs

I figured this one out. The ServerName is httpd.include is domain.com, the certificate is www.domain.com. Now it uses my certificate and not one that says localhost.

So, finally our systems are going productive. Now i hit the problem creating mails.

In the following i mention these 3 systems:

    Plesk-Expand, providing the management
    Plesk-Server, providing the webhostings
Plesk-CM, centralized mail providing the mail-services

The problem is the following situation:

The customer logs in into Plesk-Server and is happy about that nice desktop.
Then he clicks on the Create Mail Account-Link and creates a new mail account for one of his domains.

Problem occuring: That mail account is created phsically on the plesk-server - not Plesk-CM wich is assigned plesk-server. That new account wont appear in any of the 2 systems handling the domain.

Just Plesk-Server lists that like this on its desktop:

Number of mailboxes under a user account

    1 of 20 mailbox(es) used; 19 available

DB:2.81:Centralized Mail, Creation By Customer 83

Just get them to log into plesk directly, Expand isnt exactly customer friendly for just 1 or 2 domains just yet. And use the above suggestions, r.e. disabling the normal mail button, and allow them to only log into remote mail.

I think this is a bug perhaps...

I had an SSL expire yesterday. It had a CSR, Private Key and Certificate Text. I renewed with the vendor and was given new Certificate Text. I replaced the SSLs Certificate Text in Plesk and restarted Apache, but it didnt update. Same SSL was being used.

The only way I got it to work was by copying the Private Key and creating a new SSL with my new Certificate Text, then assigning the new SSL to the domain. Anyone else encounter this?

    DB:2.80:Ssl Renewal cm

    I had the same problem.

My solution was to load the new certificate text through Plesk. This created a new certificate in /usr/local/psa/var/certificates

Then, I went there and looked the new file, made a backup of the current expiring certificate, and replaced the current file with the new file.

Then restarted apache and it is now working. I didnt find another cleaner way to do it. Nice Plesk!

Hope this is useful for someone in the future.

DB:2.79:[Ppp-13673] New Ssl Certificate Produces Nginx/Apache Configuration Errors 31

Recently had to replace an expiring SSL certificate which was linked directly to a dedicated IPv4 and IPv6 as its used for the servers hostname, imapd, smtpd and Plesk panel.

    1. Created the new certificate as usual: certificate + most recent PostiveSSL_Bundle as provided by the party that has always generated by certificates.
    2. Certificate is recognised as expected. No errors and: Domain Control Validated; PositiveSSL
    3. Marked the certificate for use by Plesk Panel.
    4. Changed the associated dedicated IPv4 address and IPv6 address in Tools Settings IP Addresses to use the new certificate.

Once I then visit the Plesk Panel homepage Im confronted with the following warning:

New configuration files for the Apache web server were not created due to the errors in configuration templates: nginx: [emerg] BIO_new_file(/usr/local/psa/var/certificates/cert-R9UoOq) failed (SSL: error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory:fopen(/usr/local/psa/var/certificates/cert-R9UoOq,r) error:2006D080:BIO routines:BIO_new_file:no such file) nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed . Detailed error descriptions were sent to you by email. Please resolve the issues and click here to generate broken configuration files once again or here to generate all configuration files.

    System Overview:

    ID 71 /var/www/vhosts/system/sonnet.inspyred.nl/conf/nginx.conf nginxDomainVhost

    How to properly fix this?

    Additional information:

Earlier this week I already ran into this problem as the new certificate was generated back then. The first time I used the existing CSR to generate the new certificate and replace the previously existing certificate and CA certificates.

I ended up with the exact same issue and decided to do the following:
    1. Follow the suggestions in the Nginx does not start after IP change knowledgebase article:

You can fix the issue using the following commands:
    # /usr/local/psa/bin/reconfigurator --autoconfigure
    # /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all
    # /etc/init.d/nginx restart

    2. I ended up doing a couple of (graceful) restarts of httpd and nginx (and named at some point).
    3. I restarted the server.

At that point the warning was no longer being displayed and everything seemed to work ok... Then I started getting emails from watchdog indicating that the Web Server (Apache) and Web Proxy Server (Nginx) were going down and coming up again every now and again.

Weirdly I was unable to see the root processes go down or even the child processes get under 10 instances at any given time through my NewRelic monitor, nor did I receive any unable to ping warnings from Plesk, the datacenter or NewRelic, which I normally do get. Finally, this downtime was not mentioned in the Plesk Monitor iPhone app either...

Because I didnt like the above ghost reports, I had the certificate reissued today, set the related IPs to the default cert, completely removed the old certificate and created a new request with a new CSR. Unfortunately, as stated above, the result is the same.

Update: just had a look in /usr/local/psa/var/certificates/ and the file cert-R9UoOq, which is mentioned in the error, does not exist in that directory. The similar error that I had earlier last week also indicates a missing cert: cert-OHzYte. This file is not in the directory either.

It seems that Plesk is either writing the certificate to the wrong directory/file or isnt at all able to write to the /../certificates/ directory.

Based on the above premise Ive done some more digging and have come to a somewhat weird conclusion:

Next to the faulty certificate that Im discussing here, Ive got two more real certificates that were created in the same way and are bound to their own dedicated IPs. After some comparing I found that the files cert-BrS7qJ and cert-m4yxa8 in the /../certificates folder contain the other signed/real certificates that are currently in use. While comparing I also looked at the most recent files created, and guess what: the contents of cert-Djpuzc is actually the new certificate in its entirety.

A couple of things that are of note here:
    1. Why are the webservers looking for cert-R9UoOq while the file was saved by Plesk as cert-Djpuzc ?
    2. Two of the certificates have Access: (0400/-r--------) with user and group root. One of the working certificates has user/group psaadm - why is there a difference?
    3. Finally: I saw that based on the Plesk CSR this new certificate was issued as SHA2, while the older two are SHA1. Can this be an issue? (Guess not as the certificate does work perfectly well for the panel, just not for apache / nginx)

As a temporary fix Ive done cp cert-Djpuzc cert-R9UoOq which allowed me to save and apply the configuration.

Finally the details for the discussed files:

New certificate that is causing issues and has the wrong name:
    -r--------. 1 root root 10262 Jan 12 21:28 cert-Djpuzc

    File: `cert-Djpuzc

DB:2.78:Plesk Cp On Port 8443 Not Using Provided Ssl Certificate aj

I cant figure out how to get Plesk 8.1.1 to use the SSL certificate Ive bought for my domain. It continues to use an expired, self-signed certificate valid only for localhost.localdomain, which produces a browser warning. Ive made sure to clear my browsers cache and used different browsers to test it.

Ive tried several things to get Plesk CP to use my control panel. Ive updated the files /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/httpsd.pem, /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/rootchain.pem, making sure they were properly pointed to in /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/httpd.conf. Ive also updated the relevant files in /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/ssl.*/* but that also had no effect.

Ive gone into Plesk CP, gone to Server Certificates and checked the box beside the certificate I wanted to use and clicked Setup. No error messages are reported, but the SSL certificate used by Plesk CP continues to be the default localhost.localdomain self-signed certificate.

How do I get Plesk CP on port 8443 to use my certificate?

    Thanks

    Hey GuKea,

Thanks for the tip! My server is running Virtuozzo, and thats probably what it is. Im not sure I completely understand all that Virtuozzo does, and what will happen to my server if I had it disabled. Not even sure if my host is able to do that. Id rather not bother investigating that route; I can put up with browser warnings for now.

DB:2.78:Moving Domain And Ssl Certificate k8

I am moving a domain that uses a SSL certificate from a Plesk 5 server to another server running Plesk 6.

I moved the domain and uploaded the certificate to the new server but I have not updated DNS yet. I am testing the domain before changing the DNS.

I am accessing the domain by IP address on the new server. I can connect securely but get an SSL error message in the browser warning that the certificate doesnt belong to the domain. When I view the certificate it shows the default Plesk certificate.

Why is that? The certificate seems to be installed correctly. I restarted Apache too.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

You will get a certificate warning if you access the website using the IP. Most likely you didnt changed the default certificate in hosting setup.

DB:2.78:Change Port 8443 Admin Default Certificate? How To? kc

I am real confused on how to change the default certificate that plesk uses for the administration pages.

I dont even mind about the warnings, however, I dont want it to say that the certificate is from plesk

    How do I change this?

Also, we have a purchased certificate for secure.domain.com - and it works with the normal SSL port, however, I will receive a warning if I try and access it from the 8443 port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi Forum

Again me (too many problems with Plesk :-(). This time, Ive got an issue with the intermediate certificate, I need to provide additional to my certificate. As usual, I created a cert bundle with certs in following order:
    - key data (BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY)
    - crt data (BEGIN CERTIFICATE
    - intermediate data (BEGIN CERTIFICATE)
And uploaded it successful to Plesk 12 certificate management. In Chrome, its working. In Firefox not (as the intermediate cert is not provided by Plesk 12, and Firefox requires it).

How to inject the intermediate certificate for Plesk 12?

Many thanks again for all your help.
    Kind regards
    Jonas

Test your SSL Connection at https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/index.html to make sure you dont have any chain issues. It will list all the certificates sent by the server.

DB:2.78:Incorrect Cert Keeps Showing For Default Shared Ip jx

    Hi

I am using a 3 IP addresses, 2 exclusive and one shared

I now want to set the default certificate for the shared IP address (this will work for one of the domains allocated to this IP and not for the others obviously)

    So, I need to set:

    84.45.66.62 - aston.voodoo.uk.com

Now, I have taken the following steps:

    Installed the certificate though ServerCertificate
    Made this the default certificate
Allocated this certificate to the correct IP address
Gone into the client and made sure that IP address is available
Setup the domain and entered the correct IP address which then automatically shows the correct certificate
    [/list=1]

so, everywhere now on plesk when I access the domain name aston.voodoo.uk.com I can see the correct cert assigned.

However, If I access http://84.45.66.62 it brings up one of the certificates used on another (exclusive) IP addresses.

I have stopped/started apache to no avail

    any ideas?

DB:2.78:How To Install Geotrust Certificate For Use With Pop Email? cx

    Hello,

I know this question has been asked in the forums before but after searching around for three days I still have not been able to locate the answer. So here it goes...

Id like to install a newly purchased GeoTrust certificate for my domain to get rid of the Invalid Certificate warning Outlook 2003 throws every time I connect to my POP account.

I have purchased and correctly installed a new GeoTrust QuickSSL(R) Certificate for my domain using Plesk. The certificate works correctly for my domain using an HTTPS connection. Yet, I still get the warning when I try to connect to that same domain with Outlook on port 995.

    This what Outlook says exactly:

The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified.

The certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.

Do you want to continue using this server?

Do I need to set up the POP server to use this certificate separately from Plesk? If so, how? Please provide step by step instructions if possible but any help would be greatly appreciated as Im not sure where to start.

This server runs Red Hat 3 ES and Plesk 7.0.4.

Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

    /usr/lib/courier-imap/share/pop3d.pem
    /usr/lib/courier-imap/share/imapd.pem

I pasted the contents of httpsd.pem into both of these files and saved them. Of course I backed up both of them before modifying the files.

After restarting with /etc/init.d/courier-imap restart the Outlook warning is gone and everything seems to be working fine.

So i added a certificate ( created one manually) but after apache restart it gaves the error:

VirtualHost ipadres overlaps with VirtualHost ipadres, the first has precedence, perhaps you need a NameVirtualHost directive. all sites were down... so i removed the ssl certificate and the ipadress and reconfigured apache. All is up now but the problem isnt solved.

Is there a standard plesk certificate which i can include in plesk 11 to solve this?
