    My local machine has VS2005, CRXI Developer.

    The web server has .NET 2.??, CR 9 installed.

    USING Deployment using merge modules from BusinessObjects I managed to create a web setup file ( using the merge modules from BusinessObjects )

    Problem is the web server is a production box. If this deployment affects other apps that use CR 9 I am in trouble. So then what is your suggestion ?

    I have VS2005 Pro + Team Explorer + SP1
    Whenever I build a deployment project (msi or msm), visual studio will raise an exception.It saids something like"Visual Studio is unstable ....."
    I click on on the error and the build just hangs.
    It used to work. The last thing that I remember installing was Web Deployment Project. I tried uninstalling that but it doesn't help.
    How can I repair this?

    DB:3.38:Vs2005 Crashes When Building Deployment Projects 1a

    Start Visual Studio while holding down the left shift key, this will disable all add-ins and then try to build the setup project again to see whether this solves it, if it does you need to figure out which add-in is causing this issue. You can also try to start devenv.exe with the /safemode argument. Try reinstalling Web Deployment Project, if that does not help, try repairing SP1 and if that doesn't help either, remove SP1 first and try that and ultimately repair the Visual Studio 2005 installation.

    We have a web app that is developed in VS2005 and that references the 10.0.33000 version of the Crystal Reports dlls.

    We currently deploy to Win2003Server (IIS6\32bit) web servers and everything works great. But we are now trying to deploy to a Win2008Server (IIS7\64bit) web server and we are getting the load report failed error when trying to view a report.

    We've tried some different things to make this work but before we spend anymore time on this, can anyone tell me if this configuration will work (CR v10.0.3300 on a Win2008Server\IIS7\64bit web server)?

    Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

    DB:3.18:Cr On Win2008server\64 Bit 8k

    Thank you for your feedback.

    After trying multiple combinations of Crystal Report runtime versions and different target CPUs, we were finally able to make this work by building our VS2005 projects to target "AnyCPU" and then installing the x86 10.2 version (from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\BootStrapper\Packages\CrystalReports\CRRedist2005_x86.msi).

    Once we did that, we were then able to load reports on our 64bit Windows 2008 server.

    Thanks.

    Hi NR1234,Based on my understanding, there is no direct way to add tracepoints programmatically in Visual Studio, but you can firstly insert breakpoint using Breakpoints.Add method in EnvDTE namespace, andspecifythe code you want to dotoBreakpoint2.Macro. For more information, please refer to following article, specially the comments in this article:http://blogs.msdn.com/jimoneil/archive/2009/05/18/t-is-for-tracepoint.aspxBest Regards,Nancy

    I'm not really sure what the questions are here, but here's an attempt at an answer.

    1. The CrystalReportViewer isn't as critical as the ReportDocument. The viewer doesn't hold onto temp report files and print jobs like the ReportDocument object does.

    2. The ReportDocument holds onto temporary report files if it is not cleaned up correctly.

    Hi dthouston,
    To debug a managed custom action, you can use a Message to attach MSI process to the debugger in Visual Studio. Here are detailed steps to do the debugging:

    Operating System(s): Windows XP

    We purchased and installed Crystal Reports XI R2 on our development system. We are running VS2005 which comes with CR 10.2. Is there a way to tell VS2005 .Net to run the CR XI version? When we create a report with CR XI and import it into .Net the web.config file is loaded with 10.2 references and will not work until we change those references to 11.5.

    In VS2005, I have setup an application to use ClickOnce deployment.  .NET 2.0 is a prerequisite and I have the option checked to download prerequisites from same location as the application.  dotnetfx.exe for 2.0 is included in the deployment files.  In the past, the ClickOnce deployment would successfully install .NET 2.0 if necessary to the client machine.
    Recently, however, if the client machine does not have .NET 2.0, ClickOnce only will go to the web and install .NET 3.5 (which is not a prerequisite and not used by this application and not even installed on the development machine).

    Has anyone seen this behavior?  Why is the ClickOnce installer going to the web and getting .NET 3.5 when it should be getting .NET 2.0 from the deployment location?

    Hello,

    I'm using the CrystalReportViewer-Control comes with VS2005 CR.

    When I deploy the application to a W2008 R2-System the print button shows no response.

    I'm still installed the CR-Runtime for x64 Systems on the Target-Server: CRRedist2005_X64.msi

    For testpurposes I installed a VS2005 on a W2008 R2 Server. On this platform I installed the CR-SP1-Patch for the environment: crvs05sp1.exe. After that the print button responds on the test-system.

    Then I created a setup project on this test-system with mergemodules: CrystalReportsRedist2005_x64.msm and deployed it to the target-server. But with no success. The button does not respond. It is not important for me, wether I deploy the CR-Runtime on the target-servers with the CRRedist2005_X64.msi or with a own setup-project. Because there are only six servers must be deployed.

    Any ideas? Thank you in advance

    If you're interested in building your web project using MSBuild, we can save you the trouble of posting the question and waiting for an answer :)
    To build web projects with MSBuild you need the Web Deployment Project add-in. You can get it from http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/reference/infrastructure/wdp/.Another option is to use Web Application Projects,which give you the VS2003 model of working with ASP.NET projects, but the benefits of ASP.NET 2.0 and VS2005.

    We need to set up Web Appplication Project builds for our build servers (which can't have Studio installed), and our CM folk aren't going to like to hear, Install Studio on some other machine, install the add-ins, and then just copy the MSBuild directory over.
    The only file my build was complaining about was Microsoft.WebApplication.targets. (Looks like it goes in \Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v8.0\WebApplications) Is that the only thing I'll need to get copied in?
    If not, a definitive list of what files need to go where would be much appreciated.

    I have an ASP.NET application. It runs on my web hosting service's server, (it is a shared server, not dedicated). I have created some reports using CR.NET. I want to deploy them. I have copied all of the CrytalDecisions.* .NET assemblys (.dlls) to the server. They load, but I get an error saying CR needs to be reinstalled.

    Is it even possible to deploy CR reports to a server without actually "installing" (via .msi) CR? (My provider would never go for that, not to mention the fact that everyone else on that server would now have access to CR). If so, how?

    Thanks,

    Kinley

    DB:2.76:Deployment To Remote Server - Asp.Net 7d

    CR.NET components rely on several COM components via COM Interop.

    The COM components are installed via the merge modules - xcopy install of just the CR.NET assembly dlls will not work.

    This does limit its deployability in shared hosts that restrict deployment of COM components.

    DB:2.76:Deployment Project Trouble ck

    Hi, sorry I'm brand new to this. I am adding a web deployment project to our solution for the first time. My environment is vs2003 and I have CR XIR2 but the other developers have v9 of crystal which I think came out of the box with vs2003. We are still on .Net 1.1 for the foreseeable future.

    I have just added the Primary Output and Content Files to WebSetup1 and I am at the step where you exclude stdole.exe and dotnetfxdist_x86_enu.msm. The dotnet one is already exluded but is listed as dotnetfxdist_x86.msm but the stdole.dll is not in the list. Can someone tell me if this is due to my configuration? i.e. perhaps the instructions I am looking at are for .net 2.0 or vs2005?

    Also, just a general question. We are in the process of upgrading the dev environment to vs2005. Will I need to repeat any of this deployment once we have moved everything over or should this just transfer to 2005?

    And finally, on our Live app we just deploy dlls, no other files at all so I am just wondering if this is the best deployment strategy for me i.e. using the merge module method? It seems to be so but just wanted to ask the experts. Thanks and sorry if these are too many questions and if they are covered in another thread. I did search first and couldn't find a clear answer on this.

    DB:2.76:Deployment Project Trouble ck

    Thanks for the response but I was using the instructions for crystal 11, release 2 because I have upgraded to this version on my machine only and wrote reports in that version of crystal. The other developers have version 9 installed out of the box with VS but none of them are using it. The instructions I am following are at:

    http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/en/CrystalReports_dotNET_SDK/crsdk_net_doc/doc/crsdk_net_doc/html/crtskdeploymentvs2002or2003webcreatexir2.htm

    Should I uninstall crystal 11.5 and redo my reports in CR9? If the other developers start to use crystal they will be using 9 so would there be a conflict at that point or could they deploy a separate web setup project for their version 9 reports? Thanks!

    UPDATE (sept 11):

    I uninstalled Crystal 11 and it removed Crystal completely from my IDE, was hoping it would leave 9 installed. So I had to reinstall the bundled version of 9 from my VS disks. For the best really since now I can follow the nice instructions you gave me.

    Thanks again,

    Dan

    Hi
    Situation:
    I am part of a very small team with limited budget.
    We are developing an application using Visual Studio 2010, C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server 2008.
    There will be one SQL Server Database access from a WCF Services Virtual Directory under IIS7.5
    There will be 2 Web Application Virtual Directory under IIS7.5 (1 UI , 1 Admin). Both connecting to WCF Virtual Directory on the different servers.

    So 1 Database and 3 IIS7.5 Virtual Directories.
    Production will have 2 web farms, 1 for Web apps and 1 for WCF app( another server for DB)
    We don't have TFS/Team Suite and we use SVN as source control repository.
    Issue:
    What is the best way to build and deploy ALL 3 web applications and the SQL Server Database in the one deployment package?
    The deployment package will need to go to at least 4 environments (1 of which is out of country(locale))
    Tools:
    Please advise the best tools and techniques for this task given our limited development environment(ie no TFS) , as we don't wish to:

    do 3 separate deployment packages : 2 for Web and 1 for WCF/DBuse xcopy to deploy files

    “when you deploy the main web application..using publish etc..the only files of main application are copies..,

    to copy the files of addon projects all...you need to build a setpup (.msi) by including all the files (main appl addon appl)

    Hi,
    I am going to move my VS2005 solution to VS2010. I used clickOnce deployment in VS2005 solution. Currently all clients are working in vs2005 build. I want to know in VS2010 which things need to consider when publish on vs2005 published path?

    i.e. my publish path was in vs2005 solution http://somedomain.com/client/publish.html

    above url contains vs2005 build. Now when I will publish new client via VS2010 on above path then what should happen ? Is that work properly..

    DB:2.73:Compiling .Net 2 With Cr Xi R2 In Vs2008 78

    I developed an application in .Net 2 that uses CR XI R2 code classes to open reports and generate (export) reports to PDF files. This uses non of Crystals form or web control objects....all just code classes. The references for crystal assemblies are all for specific versions.

    If I compile this .Net 2 app in VS2005 and run it works. If I compile from VS2008 I can see in the build that it is missing objects and indeed when it runs it crashes.

    I know CR XI R2 is not compatible with VS2008 (for which I am sadly disappointed) but I would have guessed that just applied to objects in the designer or to 3.5 objects (.Net 2 code should still be able to reference CR 11.x objects). Why would just referencing a Crystal assembly by a .Net 2 project not be recognized in a build???

    As a second question I thought VS2008 included CR 2008 basic.....but the CR assemblies that come with it seem to be earlier 10.x so if I attempt to reference those instead of the 11.x objects code bombs because it cannot open the XI R2 reports. Am I missing something or is CR 2008 indeed an earlier verison that CR XI?

    DB:2.73:Compiling .Net 2 With Cr Xi R2 In Vs2008 78

    Since CR XI R2 is not supported with .NET 2008 it isnt surprising that it will not work. There may be work arounds, but I do not know how to get it working.

    Per your 2nd question, the CR that comes bundled with VS.NET 2008 is based on the 10 codestream, therefore you get the 10.x assembly references. If your XI R2 reports use any functionality that does not exist in the bundled version of CR.NET 2008 then they will fail (things like DCPs and such) and even if they did work would not be supported against an older/lower version of the runtimes.

    Crystal Reports 2008 with Service Pack 0 is the only full version of Crystal Reports that is supported with VS.NET 2008. CR XI R2 will not be retrofitted to work with .NET 2008 as far as I know.

    You can leverage SharePoint web part to render the user controls. Programatically load the user controls in the LoadControl method of the user control. The other option is to use SmartParts to render user controls.

    I am getting this: "The maximum report processing jobs limit configured by your system administrator has been reached."

    I have upped the limit to -1 in the registry and I am forcing a soft reset of the IIS server every hour. This is holding it at bay but is not an acceptable solution. I had tried using the following code to handle this problem in the page_unload event:

    Try

    rptDoc.Close()

    rptDoc.Dispose()

    GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers()

    GC.Collect()

    Catch ex As Exception

    Throw ex

    End Try

    Which does appear to close the report. But, when you go to export the doc(I have the print option turned off) you get Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Which makes perfect sense because you have closed and disposed of the object in the page_unload event which fires every time the web page is rendered.

    I am using VS2005 with CR xi r2 sp2 on IIS 6.0. Any one have any idea how to deal with this problem. I have spent 2 days scanning the web and nothing is working.

    Hi All,

    I also google from this site and other sites. The increasing of printjoblimit is not good solution. Also the report.close and dispose at Page_Unload does not work every time.

    The following solution (From http://geekswithblogs.net/technetbytes/archive/2007/07/17/114008.aspx) works for me.

    public class ReportFactory

    {

    protected static Queue reportQueue = new Queue();

    protected static int iMaxCount = 75;

    protected static ReportDocument CreateReport(Type reportClass)

    {

    object report = Activator.CreateInstance(reportClass);

    reportQueue.Enqueue(report);

    return (ReportDocument)report;

    }

    public static ReportDocument GetReport(Type reportClass)

    {

    if (reportQueue.Count iMaxCount)

    {

    ((ReportDocument)reportQueue.Dequeue()).Close();

    ((ReportDocument)reportQueue.Dequeue()).Dispose();

    GC.Collect();

    }

    return CreateReport(reportClass);

    }

    }

    //The following is to call the function

    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument crReportDocument = new ReportDocument();

    crReportDocument = ReportFactory.GetReport(crReportDocument.GetType());

    Hi, I had a similar problem but instead of not running I was getting an error with the web.config file. I finally got it working and I'm not sure if this will solve your problem but it's worth a shot. Open IIS (run inetmgr). Navigate to your setup project name. Right click on that and select properties. then go to ASP.NET and make sure that your version number is set to 2.0.50727 and not 1.1.4322. Hope this helps! =)

    DB:2.68:Deployment Model For Application Built On Jrc Of Cr Xi 1z

    Hi,

    I have developed a standalone Java application using JRC component of CR XI. This application will take report template as input, then set datalocation in report tables using JRC and finally generates PDF reports.

    This application runs fine and i have tested it on the machine where CRXI is installed. For this application to run, keycode is to be set in CRConfig.xml file.

    My question is reg the deployment enviroment ( the keycode):

    1) Can an application built using JRC run on a machine where there is no CRXI installed?

    2) Should the application built using JRC always have the CRConfig.xml with keycode to work? Is there a way to surpass this?

    3) Per my understanding JRC component can be freely embedded in web application, then in this case should the application server also have the CR XI installed to take care of keycode in CRConfig.xml

    4) I am expecting my standalone java application with CR XI JRC components to run on a machine that doesn't have CR XI installed, is it feasible how?

    TIA,

    M.Ravi

    DB:2.68:Deployment Model For Application Built On Jrc Of Cr Xi 1z

    1. I depends upon the application. Your application might be consisting of .rpt file, which is readable only by CR XI. Though application has been built using JRC , It does require CR XI to be installed.

    Also there is Keycode Tag in CRConfig.xml which matters a big.

    2. Yes, It should always have CRConfig.xml file. But the lates CR4E 2.0 does not require the keycode configured in CRConfig.xml file.

    I have updgraded a VS2003 Windows Forms solution to VS2005 solution and ClickOnce deployment (on web).

    I changed my configuration to Release and Platform to x86 in VS2005. I rebuild the whole solution without errors.

    I then tries to Publish the ClickOnce application, so I go to the Project Properties page-Publish tab. Change the Publish version and then click Publish Now button. In the Output window it says (for each involved project):
    ------ Build started: Project: project, Configuration: Release Any CPU ------
    and the build process fails and no publish takes place.

    Why does VS2005 uses Any CPU (for Publish) when I have specified x86 as Platform? It works fine if I use Any CPU as Platform... But for my application I want to specify x86.

    DB:2.68:Release|X86 Changes To Release|Any Cpu When Publishing zc

    I found a workaround for the problem:
    1. I set the configuration to Any CPU and publish the application to the web site.
    2. I change the configuration to x86 and rebuild the solution.
    3. I then manually copies the x86 Dlls to the web site folder for the application and deletes the once (they ends with *dll.deploy) that already exists there.
    4. I start the MageUI.exe program and opens the Application.exe.manifest (in the published folder) and changes to x86 and populates the file list (pushes Populate).
    5. I then saves the modified manifest file and signs it with a certificate.
    6. I then opens the Application_1_0_0_0_0.application file in MageUI.exe and selects the modified manifest file and changes to x86 as Processor. Saves the modified file and signs it with a certificate.
    7. I then opens the Application.application file in MageUI.exe and do the same as in step 6.

    Now is the application configured and running under x86.

    Hi,

    We have an ASP.NET 2003 web application using CR 2008 as reporting tool.

    To deploy the application, we are using the CR 2008 mergemodules.

    If the application is installed into the default website, this works fine, but if another website is selected, the mergemodule still installs CR 2008 to the default website.

    To overcome this problem, the crystalreportviewers12 virtual directory has to be created in the selected website.

    But if the application is installed directly into the website, and not into a virtual directory of the website, problems occur, like images not showing up.

    I would like to know if there exists documentation regarding deployment into websites, other than the default website and what configurations have to be done to make it work.

    I just upgraded from VS2003.Net to VS2005, and at the same time I upgraded to Crystal Reports XI Developer Release 2 with Service Pack 2.  I have uninstalled VS2003 and manually uninstalled previous version of CrysRpts, including crXI.  In VS2005, I upgraded a large report project/(solution).  In the VS2005 SDK, I opened every Crystal Report and made sure each was saved in the new format.  This is a Windows Network Solution (Not Web Solution) which I have deployed using Click-Once deployment.  On the Prerequisites window of the Publishing Tab in the project properties page, my project needs the following three prerequisites checked: Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8, .Net Framework 2.0, and Crystal Reports XI Release 2.  My question regards the last prerequisite. If I don’t have crXIr2 checked, then when I try to deploy it on a fresh deployment machine, I get the following error: “System Update Required. Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine Version 11.5.3700.0 be installed on the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first.”  If I do include it, then it installs and runs fine.  From my point of view, the only problem with this is if I were to create and deploy a project that doesn’t have a crystal report (and therefore don’t need this assembly), but in a later build I do include a cr report, then the update will not work and the user will have to use the setup.exe.  This is a shame but not a crisis for me.  However, I’ve been talking to a tech engineer who insists that if everything was working right, that, with crXIR2 with SP2, I should be able to deploy a project with embedded crystal reports on a fresh deployment machine and not need this pre-requisite.  I do not know this tech engineer, and I’m not sure if he is correct.  Could someone who has actually done this please verify to me that the tech engineer is correct.  If so, I will continue trouble shooting my installation.  (Side Notes: just in case someone wants to know.  All computers are using Windows XP, and the deployment computers are also currently running Visual Studio 2005 applications that were once-click deployed with older versions (~~10.2.36...  files, if my memory serves) of Crystal Reports (They were deployed before I deleted the older CR versions from my developer computer.)  Therefore these deployment PCs have “Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 2.0” installed.)  Thanks in advance, I’ve been struggling with this upgrade for 2 weeks.

    DB:2.66:I Dont Know If Crxir2 With Sp2 Is Once-Click Deploying Correctly x7

    For courtesy, since I believe I now know the answer to my question, I will follow up.  I recieved more correspondence from the engineering tech with whom I've been working, and I believe it has been decided that I do indeed need to have Crystal Reports XI Release 2 checked.  Also, I would like to clarify my first thread a little; when I said deployment machine, I think I should have said client machine. Thanks, unless someone thinks differently, I consider this question settled.

    The pages and all of the files associated with your site are stored in a SQL Server database, you won't find them laying around on the AT.  One thing you can try is to use the web client to view the contents of the site (ie: \\servername\sites\project).  I'm not sure you can edit sharepoint sites this way though.

    Hi.

    I'm currently developing a web site under an Windows 2003 server. The server uses a SQL SERVER 2000 standard database with mixed security settings. The web site uses Windows authentication and the anonymous access is disabled. I created and tested a CR in a VS 2005 Windows Forms in the same server and renders correctly. But when I tried to implement in a web site, I did the following actions:

    1.- Created a web page

    2.- Dropped a crystalreportviewer and a crystalreport source control

    3.- Assigned the path to the report as the filename property to the crystalreport source control

    4.- Assigned the crystalreport source control ID as the reportsourceid property for the crystalreportviewer

    So far so good. The data in the report is completely visible

    However, when I compile the web site the report appears blank.

    The SQL SERVER resides in the same server than the web site. The server is part of a local domain. The server is not an Active Directory Server. The active directory server is another computer in the LAN.

    Can you help me ??

    Thanks in advance

    I expect it is because by default web applications will be running under the aspnet account, not the actual users account. You will need to setup impersonation in order for this to work within your application. You will want to be careful about double hops, as this requires an additional step of setup to get working.

    You can use System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().ToString() to printout which user the application is currently running under.

    I am having a very difficult getting a simple hello world Cyrstal Report to run on my web server.
    I developing with VS2005 and Crystal Reports for .Net.
    I have read many help files and support documents from Microsoft and Business Objects that tell me to use:

    The Windows Installer (install once on the server and be done with it) -or-
    Merge Modules which must be included with every deployment.
    What they have not told me is where do I download these files from.  I have scoured Business Objects web site trying to find something to download.  I found files for XI, CR 10 and CR 9, but nothing for Crystal Reports for .Net using VS2005.
    Questions

    Where can I download the windows installer to install the assemblies I need for Crystal to run reports on my web server using .Net 2.0 and VS2005?
    Where can I download the merge modules for .Net 2.0 and VS2005 if the windows installer does not work?

    Hi,

    You can use RAS SDKs with CR 2008.

    DB:2.65:Possible Config Problems Involving Cr And Visual Studio 2008 8d

    My problem is a bit complex. This seemed like a good place to start.

    In brief, someone who will remain nameless wrote a website using VS2005 (including major use of CR). Now I have to convert it to Dot Net 3.5 (VS2008.) It is my understanding that Crystal Reports was standard equipment with both VS2005 and VS2008.

    For starters the existing web.config has a reference to CR components, version 10.2. My machine apparently has versions 10.5 and 13 loaded. What is correct for VS2008?

    DB:2.65:Possible Config Problems Involving Cr And Visual Studio 2008 8d

    Hello,

    First the Report Designer forum is not a good place to start unless you have Design questions so I moved your post to the .NET SDK forum.

    The runtime for CR basic for VS 2005 is 10.2, the runtime for CR basic for VS 2008 is 10.5. The runtime for CR for VS 2010 is 13.x.

    So you must also have VS 2010 installed, CR for VS 2010 will not install into VS 2008 and/or should not be used in any other VS other than 2010.

    Make a copy of the 2005 project and then open it up in VS 2008, it should ask you if you want to update the runtime, click yes. Now your references should be 10.5.

    Your project should simply run now, you do need to deploy the CR 10.5 Redist package runtime onto the WEB server.

    Search here as well as the Kbase system for lots of Deployment answers, what is required, how to, and WEB config settings.

    Also, CR for VS 2010 now gives you full access to all CR API's using RAS. Much more powerful than CR Basic for VS.

    We have VS2005 web application on .Net 2.0 running fine with CR 2008 v12 runtime (CRRuntime_12_3_mlb) on BOTH a) .Net 2.0, IIS6, Win XP and b) .Net 2.0, IIS7, Windows Server 2008 32-bit edition. The reason we have chosen CR 2008 v12 (against integrated VS2005 CR 10.2) is its ability to allow dynamically load images in reports (we have reached this level after a lot of pain) and it works great too.

    However switching from Windows 2003 server to Windows 2008 R2 x64 Server give crystal report problem - Deploying website on .Net 2.0 framework Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit) using IIS7 and installing CRRuntime_12_3_mlb (installed fine) and then running report, it gives this error 'The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' threw an exception'. Application Pools are set for .Net 2.0 and Enable 32-bit Application as True. Not sure what we are missing.

    I read many posting and have summary of questions:

    1) Does CR 2008 v12 Runtime SP3 or even SP5 not support x64 OS like Windows Server 2008 R2?

    2) Do we need to deploy our web application in x86 mode instead of 'Any CPU'? [We could not find x86 explicit mode choice for Project_deploy in VS2005 but added x86 for Release in project file and are able to create deployment files but need to test online - I am crossing my fingers to see what results we will get.]

    3) I read in some threads a suggestion of moving to VS2010 with .Net 4.0 and using Integrated 10.5 version and using CRRuntime_64bit_13_0_2.msi to deply on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit. I do not know if this is a downgrade for crystal report from 2008 v12 to 10.5 or upgrade from 2008 v12 to runtime v13 just because we want reports to run on Windows Server 2008 R2! We can take risk of moving from CR 2008 v12 to Integrated 10.5 from VS2005 to VS2010 but not sure if

    a) it retains our ability to dynamically load images in reports AS WELL AS

    b) supports runtime reports on 64bit Windows Server 2008 R2?

    If anyone can help us solve and run crystal report on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit, it would be great?

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:2.64:Vs2005 And Cr 2008 (V12) And Windows Server 2008 R2 X64 Issue xc

    Thanks Ludek and great observation. FYI - We installed 64 bit CR runtime on web server. Now setting Enable 32-bit to false, guess what - it started working - how great it feels to receive your help.

    This very interactive forum is so helpful and I feel obliged to deliver our learnings to others.

    Few observations for benefit of readers I want to pass on regarding our learning with CR,

    1) We created application pool .net = 4.0, Managed Pipeline = Integrated and Identity = NetworkService and used this AppPool for our web application which creates CR.

    2) After making necessary changes to web.config, you may need to go to 'HTTP Mappings'. This is the most difficult step to understand and apply. Under IIS 7.x, go to your site, double click HTTP Mappings on your right pan. On further right, click on 'Revert to Parent'. Many times on dedicated servers when your hosted sites are created and added, many HTTP mappings are missing and they are only visible under Default Web Site. What this 'revert to parent' does is bring and apply all those necessary HTTP mappings for your site. This saves you hours of debugging and facing those 404.17 and 500.xx screens.

    2) Windows\Temp directory must be given sufficient rights to Network Service, IIS_USRS etc.

    3) When you see blank display, you may need to copy aspnet_client folder to your web application folder since CR runtime installs some dlls, javascripts and images that get called during report viewing.

    Good luck to all!

I tried uninstalling the application completely, but I get a message the the current installation is not complete and the uninstall cannot continue.

    Any relief?

    DB:2.64:Cr Xi Release 2 Installation Doesn't Complete s3

    Hi Sam,

    It is recommended to unstall Cr XI before installing CR XI R2 so that no ambiguity will occur in dlls.

    Crystal Reports XI is installed on your computer. You need to manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI for one of the following reasons:

    u2022 To verify that all Crystal Reports XI components have been completely removed prior to installing a later version of Crystal Reports.

    u2022 To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command (Start Settings Control Panel).

    u2022 To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the Setup.exe file from Crystal Reports XI installation CD.

    How do you manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI?

    Resolution

    Before getting started, uninstall Crystal Reports XI by launching the Setup.exe file from the installation CD or by using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command. If either of these methods fails to remove all Crystal Reports directories, files and registry keys, then continue with the resolution of this article.

    ==========

    WARNING:

    This resolution can be applied if Crystal Reports XI is the only software installed on the computer that uses the Business Objects directories, files and registry keys.

    For example, Crystal Analysis, Crystal Enterprise and BusinessObjects Enterprise XI are applications that may share the same directories, files and registry keys.

    Removing these directories, files and registry keys may cause other software to function incorrectly.

    ==========

    1. To manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI, delete the following directories:

    u2022 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0

    u2022 C:\Program Files\Business Objects

    ====================

    NOTE:

    Do not remove the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0 if you have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI installed. These files are shared by both applications and removal of these files will cause Business ObjectsEnterprise XI and Crystal Reports Server XI to function incorrectly.

    ====================

    2. Delete the following registry keys:

    ====================

    WARNING:

    The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

    HELP:

    For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

    RECOMMENDATION:

    It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat on Win9x computers) before you edit the registry.

    ====================

    u2022 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects

    u2022 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects

    u2022 HKEY_USERS\S-#-#-##-...-####\Software\Business Objects

    (The number signs (#) represent a series of numbers that are different on each computer.)

    ====================

    NOTE:

    After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.

    After wards install the package of CR XI R2.

    Hope it will help you.

    Technically all that matters for clickonce to work is that .application has the MIME type above that the other two extensions have a MIME type.   The MIME type of .application is used for activating the clickonce app.  THe other 2 MIME types only matter because IIS6 won't serve up file types w/o MIME types.
    Once you have the .application mime type set you should not see the Open/Save dialog.

    I read the documentation to get my installation/deployment facts in order and I downloaded the latest crXIr2 net server install file.
    From my own observation it seems that to deploy a Crystal Reports XI R2 web project it must be on a Windows Server, not a Windows XP Pro machine.
    I could never successfully deploy on my Windows XP Pro, IIS development PC.  When I finally had access to a Windows development server machine I was able to get things working.

    I have read several threads describing developers with similar problems to mine.

    My development machine running VS2010 and CR 13.0.2000 (release) is W7 x86, and the web server I deploy to is Server 2008 R2 x64. I can also deploy to XP x86 as a test server. The web application targets .NET 4 and all libraries which form part of the solution which reference CR, reference the same version 13.0.2000. The web site uses a 2010 Web Deployment project and web setup project to compile the msi.

    When I deploy to the XP box (setup targets x86), there are no issues and the site opens.

    When I deploy to the R2 box (setup targets x64), I get the error "Could not load file or assembly 'log4net'..."

    When I deploy to the R2 box (setup targets x86), I get the same error.

    In the directory "C:\Windows\assembly", there is only one instance of log4net.dll.

    Is this problem simply that I cannot deploy from x86 to x64 when CR is referenced, or is there a workaround?

    XI is not supported on the 2.0 Framework (VS2005), you need to get XI release 2, search business objects website to find this.  Its a free upgrade, you just use your XI keycode to install.  I suggest uninstalling XI then installing XIr2.

    We have web solutions developed from VS2008 using its embedded CR2008 Basic Runtime Engine for reporting purpose. If we want to distribute our web solution EXTERNALLY as SERVER APPLICATION, what license we have to buy for EACH server application deployment.

    Now, it seems to me that purchasing a licensed copy of VS2008 per each server application deployment solves the license and CR version. However, our end-users never do development on VS2008. They never need CR Designer to design report. It seems to me that purchase a licensed copy of VS2008 is not cost effective. Any alternative ?

    If we purchase the CR Runtime Server License, does that mean we can distribute as many different SERVER APPLICAIONS as we want. Will the CR Runtime Server License cover VS2010 ?

    A small step forward...

    By reviewing the references in teh Solution Explorer I noticed that several of them were the 11.5 version so I removed these. Then I was able to open some of forms however I now get a big error that causes VS2005 to crash.

    The error states that it could not find CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.CommLayer version 11.5.3300 at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument..cctor()

    A Google for this error provides lots of hits relating to distribution of an application. I have downloaded the merge file and copied it but this has not helped (not surprised as I am not trying to distribute the app.).

    There are hundreds of users of the Visual Studio 2005 version, and there is no way I would dare suggest they run a separate installation for the CR runtime distributable. I would get my head handed to me.

Final answer was found by me, the person who asked the question and I had sent in emails to support asking for a call-back and had no support response. Hopefully someone can shed some light on a bit of confusion. The Express Edition FAQ says that you cannot compile a completed .NET website into .dll(s) (either to a single DLL like .NET 1.1 or multiple "per page" DLLs as I've seen in 2.0.) However while recently attending a MSDN course the instructor said that both the Web Express and full VS2005 will allow for compiling the code upon deployment.Which is right? Is compiling upong deployment (so I don't have to share my code) a feature that currently exists in Express? Or will it appear in the final version?Thanks for your assistance.Bill

    DB:2.56:Compiling Your Code - Express Vs. Vs2005 9k

    Blah! What's up with that? Why do they feel like theyhave to add some sort of confusion to us developers? *sigh*Here's what I do: Open notepad, insert:C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler -v /MySite -p "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\MySite" -u -f C:\Websites\MySitepauseSave as "Build.bat"That'll do it. You should run the compiler with /? to see what all it can do, but the above script basically compiles my application, and outputs it to C:\Websites\MySite. The -f switch tells it that the application is updateble, and the -u switch tells it to overrite everything that was in C:\Websites\MySite.Thought I'd post this for those devs who don't know what to do... I'm sure this question will be raised a LOT. So the above command works nicely. Again, you should run the compiler with the help switch on, just to familiarize yourself with it.// joshua m. (mcp)

    Hi

    We want the users to be able to install updates by downloading them via our website - you know - select a menu item of 'check for updates' and if an update is available to download it and have it installed.
    How much of this function is available in VS2005 ? If so, any references to MSDN and/or advice appreciated...

    thanksBruce

    DB:2.56:How To: Update A Webform Application From The Web zc

    None of this is built-in for apps deployed with MSI files. That's why ClickOnce is good for automatic updates.
    The kind of thing that's required is a call to a web service at your support web site, passing the current product's version (at a minimum). If there is a new version you can return a URL to the new version, and that would be an updated version with RemovePreviousVersions set and the user downloads that new MSI file and runs it.
    Some third party tools have built-in support for updates.

Now for the web, we are planning to use the same crystal features.We downloaded CR for VS2010 and we changed configuration and everything. We tried to launch a report without parameters, it is working fine. When we trying to run a report with parameter it will show parameter popup and after giving parameter values when we press OK button it will show a progress animator and it will not close. This is what happening while pressing Next and Previous button. For Export button it is not showing any progress animation and it is working fine.NB: 1. We are developing reports using CR 11. The same report we are using for our Windows application and web application. 2. Our windows application is developed in VDF and front end and SQL server as backend. The setup is built with VS2005 (TargetPlatform is set to x86 in deployment project properties).
    Web site files are correcly copied to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Server\Bin\webapps\site\MyWebSite', but the application physical path ends with 'C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\webapps\site\MyWebSite'.
    Of course this lastpath is wrong and the application won't work.
    The custom action that creates the application obviously receives incorrect information. What is the name of the custom action that does that ?
    TIA.

    CA Forum: Deployment

    We are trying to deploy a .NET web application that runs an rpt file and displays the results via a web page. Currently we are using CR Server. We would like to be able to deploy our application without using CR Server. I ran across the forum posting below that describes what we would like to do but does not describe how to do it: I'm assuming you've purchased Crystal Reports XI Release 2 Developer edition, which comes with a complimentary copy of Crystal Reports Server.

    If what you have is a CR.NET application - that runs a rpt file and displays it over the web, then you don't need to install CR Server at all.

    CR Server has capabilities for managing/scheduling reports - description of this product can be found here:

    http://www.businessobjects.com/products/reporting/crystalreports/server/default.asp

    Sincerely,

    Ted Ueda Can anyone outline for me what you need to do in order to have our .NET application run a rpt file and display it over the web without installing CR Server? Thanks in advance!

    I have VS2005 Pro on my PC at home and need to run Crystal Reports, but CR wants a Pro license.I'm assuming I can run CR on the Express version.I cannot find the VS2005 Express Download on MS's site.Does anyone know where I can download it?Are there any problems having both versions on the same PC?Thanks,Dennis

    DB:2.55:Where Can I Download Vs2005 Express? xk

    Hi Dennis,VS2005 Express versions are no longer available for download from the MS site, you can find VS 2008 Express versions at http://www.microsoft.com/express My understanding is that Crystal Reports is not included in the Express versions.Both versions of Visual Studio on the same PC will work fine.If you are interested, you can also try the Beta versions of VS2010 available at http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010/default.mspxThanks,Veronica

    After much newsgroup searching, I was able to make CR work on my web server. However the charts (images) inside the reports do not show up.The src attribute for these images look like this:src="//CrystalImageHandler.aspx?dynamicimage=cr_tmp_image_5f03e8ad-37b4-4b16-923e-264e3b3a0314.png"And obviously is not finding anything.Hence 2 questions:1. How can I specify the domain name for the URLs or tell it to use relative path?2. Where can I find CrystalImageHandler.aspx ? I searched my entire HD and could not find it.Thank you.

    DB:2.55:Crystal For Visual Studio 2010 Distribution - Co Exist With Past Version? 79

    I have been testing a VS 2010 Website that has a Crystal Report Viewer. On my Desktop, in debug all is well; the report opens properly.

    I have installed the CRRuntime_32bit_13_0.msi

    On Web Server 1 - our test server the program runs without error; but the report page is blank, the viewer visibility is true

    On Web Server 2 - another test environment, the program runs and the report viewer displays properly

    On Web Server 3 - our production web server; same as Web Server 1.

    The one big difference with Web Server 2 is that it did not have an earlier version of the CR Runtime installed.

    Is it possible to have VS2005 applicaition useing the CR Runtime for 2005 and VS2010 application s using the 2010 runtime on the same server.

    I have tried to remove all prior versions and clean out the registry on the test web server and have been unsuccessful getting the VS2010 environment to work.

    The Software keys for the SAP Business Objects are the same on all 3 servers.

    However: Server 2 which works also has a Crystal Decisions Folder with different keys than the other two; but when I re-install the CRRuntime_32bit_13_0.msi after cleaning out the registry it does not seem to create these keys.

    Can anyone tell me what the registry entries should be for the 2010 runtime to work?

    DB:2.55:Crystal For Visual Studio 2010 Distribution - Co Exist With Past Version? 79

    Depends.

    If the app is under a defasult website, then C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\Crystal Reports 2011\crystalreportviewers

    should work.

    If a custom website, you need aspnet_client folder from c:\inetpub\wwwroot in the specific website.

    DB:2.55:Crystal Reports Error On 64 Bit System With Vs2008 cx

    My Winforms application was developed in VS2005, and worked fine on 64bit systems.
    When I migrated it to VS2008, Crystal Reports quit working on 64bit systems. The error is below.
    I can correct it by manually running CRRedist2008_x86.msi.
    Running CRRedist2008_x64.msi doesn't help.
    The application is distributed with a Deployment project which worked fine and installed the CR redistributable in VS2005, but not in VS2008!
    Is this a bug? What should I do so that the install package installs CRRedist2008_x86.msi, instead of apparently failing to install CRRedist2008_x64.msi?
    The error message is:
    An error has occurred while attempting to load the Crystal Reports runtime.
    Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly.
    Please install the appropriate Crystal Reports redistributable (CRRedist*.msi) containing the correct version of the Crystal Reports runtime (x86, x64, or Itanium) required. Please go to
    http://www.businessobjects.com/support for more information.

    Post Author: ejthunderCA Forum: Migration to XI R2VS2005 ships with a bundled edtion of Crystal Reports - v10.2. Visual Studios 2005 is not compatible with CR XI (v11.0). This is because of changes made in Visual Studios for things like the 2.0 framework. If you install CR XI (v11.0) onto your VS2005 machine it will not integrate properly.If you want to develop with VS2005 and a full version of Crystal Reports you need to use CR XI R2 (v11.5) or the new CR 2008. These are the only stand alone versions of Crystal Reports that will integrate properly for a supported development environment.Also note that VS2008 will only integrate with CR 2008 with SP0.I hope this helps.EJ

    DB:2.55:Deployment To Remote Server - Asp.Net 1m

    I have an ASP.NET application. It runs on my web hosting service's server, (it is a shared server, not dedicated). I have created some reports using CR.NET. I want to deploy them. I have copied all of the CrytalDecisions.* .NET assemblys (.dlls) to the server. They load, but I get an error saying CR needs to be reinstalled.

    Is it even possible to deploy CR reports to a server without actually "installing" (via .msi) CR? (My provider would never go for that, not to mention the fact that everyone else on that server would now have access to CR). If so, how?

    Thanks,

    DB:2.54:Consequences Of Upgrading c1

    Consequences of Upgrading=========================
    I currently develop Windows and Web applications using Visual Studio 2005 (VB). Several of my current Windows Apps incorporate Crystal Reports. Although I own the full version of CR10, I ended up having to use the VS2005 built-in version of CR due to distribution errors. I've been struggling to create a Setup Deploy package that creates a usable installation - I kept getting a variety of errors associated with the CR environment. Recently I found the new merge module (CrystalDecisionsRedist2005_x86) and after getting rid of all the detected dependencies and older merge modules it looks like things may be working (At Last!)
    Now, I want to try the new CrystalReports.com but, of course, it indicates that I'll need to upgrade to CR XI Rel 2. Here are my questions/concerns:
     - If I upgrade to XI will my VS2005 VB projects need to be re-built to use XI and if so, what merge module(s) is required for Setup/Deploy to create usable install packages?
     - To use CrystalReports.com do I just re-run my existing reports (built in CR10) under XI and use those new copies?
     - Once XI is installed, should I convert my VS 2005 apps to use XI instead of the built-in CR? Exactly how do I do that.

    DB:2.54:Consequences Of Upgrading c1

    CrystalReports.com doesn't really affect your projects. It's a place to host your rpt (xls, ppt, and pdf) files and share them with others.
    When crystalreport said that the report will be automatically converted, I believe that s/he meant that the rpt file will be updated to the XI rpt format automatically when you upload it to CrystalReports.com.
    To the best of my knowledge, no part of the CrystalReports.com process will upgrade your project files or your code.

    Dear MengJia,
    Since I'm not so familiar with web developing and deploymen, it's hard to give you suggestions in this aera.
    I think the better way to get your problem resolve is to open a new thread in
    IIS Forum or ASP.NET Forum.
    Sorry for any inconvenience.

    Hi,
    I have VS2005 and want to build a Silverlight web application. The issue is i cannot use VS2008 as the deployment server is .net 2.0.
    Please advise how i shouldproceed. Can i use VS2008 or ExpressionBlend to develop and then deploy this in the 2.0 server.

    Looking forward to your advice.

    Hi,

    Can i use VS2008 or ExpressionBlend to develop and then deploy this in the 2.0 server.

    Yes, you can. You can run SL 2 app with .NET 2.0, and succeeded without any hiccups. Just the plain old object tag worked.
    And also mention that your Hosting provider supported .NET 2.0, and has
    not configured the web-server to report a MIME type of x-application/silverlight for the .xap extension.

    Hello,I understand that in order to use CR in my ASP.NET 2.0 I have to install some CR stuff on the production web server.I should have two choices:- create a deployment project for the whole web application and use the merge modules to include CR dependencies OR- runa specificCrystal Report.msi package on the web server.
    I would rather use the second choice but I could not find the Crystal Reports installation package(crystalreports10_net_embeddedinstall.msi) on my Visual Studio 2005 Professional dvds.Thanks in advance.

    If you are unable to find the msi, you can build your own from merge modules available from http://support.businessobjects.com/downloads/merge_modules.asp#07

    DB:2.54:Vs2005 - Where Have Website Project Build/Publish Options Gone? z9

    I have brought a second programmer onto my website development team - both work remotely.
    The first programmer has been working on the project in VS2005 for nearly 2 years and has passed a copy of the source code to the second programmer and advised that it will only Build properly (ie without errors) if put together as a website project as opposed to a web application.
    The second programmer is also using VS2005 and has reported that Visual Studio doesn't give him the option of a website project template only web application or website deployment project. So he is using the website deployment option but reports that VS2005 does not allow him to Publish this type of project only build it.
    Why would VS2005 not offer the option of a website project and why is the option to Build/Publish missing for the second programmer?
    I would really appreciate some advice here - it is so frustrating.
    Thanks in anticipation.
