How can I set the task sequence to allow unlimited deployments?

    Thanks.

    DB:3.72:Osd Only Runs Once 9d

    Hi Gus,

There are 2 answers to this:
    1) PXE Boot. If you are using PXE to boot your machines and run the install then you will have to clear the Last PXE Advertisement for your client by right clicking on either the client or the collection the client is in and selecting Clear last PXE advertisement.
This occurs when you have a schedule set on your advertisement. (Example: Install ASAP) To prevent your machine rebooting in to PXE and rebuilding over and over ConfigMgr puts a check point in to stop the build until you clear this setting.
If you remove the schedule from the advertisement then this check point will not be put in, however, when PXE boots it will ask you what Task Sequence you want to run and give you a list of advertisements for that client. (Usually only one) So the process is not truly Zero Touch as someone will need to be at the keyboard.

    2) Refresh Build. If you are building your OS from an existing OS then the advertisement will be set to Never Re-run advertisement by default. Turn this off and the client will be able to run the advertisement whenever required.

    Good luck

    Hi all
I am wondering if this is possible, as I have a collection of programs all within one package, without having to chain them or create separate package for each. We now run it scripted as par to the logon, but would like to plug it into the OSD. The
package would contain 15 different programs. I thought about creating an MDT bundle, however how would I guarantee that it only runs upon OSD completion as the first run once?

You don't need to create separate packages for each program.
Either use multiple install software steps (and install a single program each time) or install software and multiple applications - whatever fits best.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

For .mov (apple) trailers i can do this although i wouldn't call it seamless since there is a long pause for playing the next video in line buffering i guess, and once again that VERY annoying OSD pops up in between each file. God how i wish Netgear would put an option to disable the OSD already. Any ways playing a folder of m2ts videos will only play one file and stops and goes back to the gui.

Hi, this is an architectural question. A customer has about 7,000 Win XP endpoints that they want to upgrade to Win7. The endpoints are scattered across a WAN in several subnets, with multiple routers. My question is if it makes sense for them to setup several OSD Managers, one for each subnet and use these to deploy OS images. I read that because OSD Proxies cant cache OS images, its better to use OSD Managers. Also for this type of scenario with multiple routers filtering Multicast, is it better for them to use Broadcast?, since an individual OSD manager only broadcasts to his unique subnet so it doesnt go over the entire WAN.

DB:2.85:Boot Media For A Specific Task Sequence Rather Than All Advertised? 9s

Is it possible to create (or configure) boot media to only have access to a specific task sequence?
We currently advertise a number of task sequences to ‘unknown computers’ so we can OSD new machines, however I would like to produce media for a specific task sequence so only specified task sequences are available rather than all advertised task sequences.
In SCCM 2003 OSD FP you could create a boot CD for a specific OSD program; can this be done in SCCM OSD?

DB:2.85:Boot Media For A Specific Task Sequence Rather Than All Advertised? 9s

Do note that a standard TS media is an entirely different beast from the stand-alone media however. The stand-alone media is just that, it does not contact the site for information about the TS at all and is completely self-contained. All referenced packages are copied to the media and the Windows Updates tasks are not valid for stand-alone media. Because of this, stand-alone media are much larger in size and require multiple CDs, one (or more DVDs), or removable media. Also, if you change your TS, because the stand-alone media does not contact the site, that change cannot be reflected by the TS on the stand-alone media and you must create new stand-alone media. Stand-alone media also don't care about advertisments (because, once again, they don't contact the site) so it is conceivable that a system gets re-imaged that should have been (of course, that is always a risk).Unfortunately, there isn't really another solution for unknown systems, because they are just that, unknown. If you pre-stage the accounts by importing their MAC addresses, then you can target advertisments and may be preferable given the limitations of the stand-alone media noted above.

    1) A Task Sequence for a device with only 4GB storage space is working fine, but we require the HDD to be compressed using standard Windows NTFS drive compression. Is there a command that we can use to do this in the task seqeunce, or even if not in
a task sequence manually by command line, rather than having to go into drive properties and tick a tick box. We have tried the compact command but it doesnt seem to work.
    2) A port protection client application blue screens the device when its installed with the SYSTEM account, everytime. Enabling the option Allow users to interact with this program allows the program to install correct and it doesnt blue screen the
device. Obviously, this option prevents the program being selected in a Task Sequence, so we also advertise a standard SD which runs after the OSD TS has completed, but this is not a great solution, Is there a better way?
    3) An application which after installation starts a process (running in user context) which has built in protection to prevent it closing or being closed forcibly. After installation the application requires three additional files copying to its install
folder, which cannot be completed because of the aformentioned process running and preventing overwrite of one of the files in question. The workaround is a standard SD using robocopy, with the program set to run Only when no user is logged on.
Once again, this is not an idea solution as it must wait until after the OSD TS has completed, and there is a chance that the user will log on before this SD task has had a chance to complete successfully. Is there a better solution for this.
For info, we are a local government org. and in 2 and 3 there is no option to get the vendors to fix or upgrade the
C R @ P software, we must workaround the issues.

After an OSD script with Sysprep runs, our machines run wscfg32.exe with the standard switches (used LD wizard to create the OSD scripts). The agent gets installed, but there are some services missing. Specifically:

    -LANDesk Policy Invoker

    and

-LANDesk Out of Band Monitor Service (about 50% of the time installs fine)

Once the machine reboots and is all checked in with the Core, if I push the same Default Agent config as a scheduled task the services are then installed properly. Basically I've had at least 50 machines roll out recently that do not have these services installed.

Any idea why wscfg32.exe isn't creating these services? This hurts us because we use the Software Deployment Portal pretty frequently as well as policy-based software distribution.

What I would like to do now, is deploy all of my apps during an OSD Task Sequence. The catch is, I need the applications to end up pre-cached (download and execute I believe it is called). I have followed the following instructions

The applications are successfully registered on the machine, butit looks like they are streaming from the DP, and not just running from cache. During the OSD, a 1.5 GB virtual app is taking only 1 second to successfully complete the task.
When the OSD completed, I unplugged the ethernet cableto simulate being offsite. Any attemptsto run these apps resultsin An Application Distribution Point is Not Available. Once I plug the cable back in, theyrun beautifully.
Is there a way to force the app to bepre-cached during an OSD Task Sequence.

    Good Morning Guys -
I recently started at a company which has had an existing SCCM 2012 OSD task sequence for a while. The task I've been working on recently is fine tuning and updating this task sequence. I wanted to post a quick, newb question about the best method
    to apply BitLocker, please.
Our company uses BitLocker, but currently, the OSD task sequence doesn't encrypt the disk during the OSD task sequence, itself. The reason for this is due to the time it takes to encrypt the disk. Therefore, once the TS finishes, one of the techs manually
starts the encryption process which takes 45 - 90 minutes on average depending on if the PC has an SSD.
I'm not yet familiar with how they have BitLocker configured, but would it not be possible to apply BitLocker encrypt the drive prior to applying the WIM therefore making the encrypting the dataless disk not take much time at all? I believe I've
worked with task sequences which have done so in the past, but never worked too much with that part of it.
The encryption is taking so long during builds, that they are currently looking at other solutions so this could be a big help. I know this may seem like a true newb question, but basically didn't know if Bitlocker could be applied as Truecrypt was
(where only existing data was encrypted then data added later would be encrypted on the fly) - or - if the entire disk requires processing no matter how much data exists.
    Thanks guys!

the OSD collection when importing a computer. They can import a machine into All Systems, but cannot add it to the OSD collection. This seems to negating the whole RBA model for collections as support staff have to have access to All Systems, and

DB:2.72:Import Computer Information To Osd Collection Without All Systems Permissions 9d

I now have a solution whereby the Chinese users cannot see any more objects than their scope permits, yet allows them to use the Import Computer Wizard and this will allow them to import either straight into the All Systems Collection or to a sub-collection

    Hi All,

Im not new to overclocking however this latest issue has me absolutely stumped.

Recently bought a MSI 580GTX Lightning and when testing it in evga OC Scanner and Furmark the OSD on stock clocks shows a high FPS.

However once you touch the core voltage in MSI Afterburner the FPS on the OSD in either scanner drops.

e.g The card on stock is 832/4200 and shows around 333fps in the OSD

Bumping this up to 932/4200 without any voltage adjustments increases the fps to 400 in the OSD.

Increasing the core voltage from +10mv to +200mv will drop the fps to 190/200 in the OSD. I can get the card stable at 970/4600.

I havent really tested it in a game environment, but from what Ive done so far it doesnt seem to be limiting.

Any ideas? Should I be concerned? Lol

DB:2.71:N580gtx Lightning Strange Oc Issues 9f

You might cause problems if you do that. If your card is similar to the MSI GTX 580 Lightning XE there is a DIP switch on the back to disable the voltage protection, though it is only recommended if you have a form of XTREME cooling such as Water or LN2.

    Hello all,
I have some question on OSD that I'm hoping will be answered:
    1. If I want to advertise a OSD TS to known and unknown computers, I should be able to do this as long as I set theADVto benot mandatory, set the TS to run only on specified platforms (we don't have any x64 Windows Vista) and also set a
password to PXE boot. Any pitfalls in doing this?
    2. We currently use MDT, I have integrated MDT into SCCM, PSP has been installed on a new server. I would like to use MDT once in a while to image, this should be possible as long as I change the WDS provider order, correct? I know that most articles say
don't configure WDS after PSP has been installed, but also have seen once that say it's OK to configure WDS after PSP install.
    3. We tested multicast using SCCM OSD, got horrible speeds when testing unless it wason the same switch. Changed the apBlockSize in WDS and that seemed to help, although the CPU is maxed out when imaging with this change. The SCCM server is a vmware
VM and the network speed shown is 10Gbps, and as far asI know the networking gear is all cisco. Any ideas on how to improve the speed without the registry change? I tried setting the transfer rate to 1gbps, but that didn't help unless I made the registry
    change.
    4. Whenrunning use toolkit package I see that it gets downloaded multiple times, shouldn't it cache the content? I tried persist content in the client cache, but that didn't seem to help.
    5. Which packages used by the TS need to have the multicast attribute set? I'm assuming the actuall image and anything that runs in PE, so MDT toolkit should have the allow this package to be transferred via multicast, correct?

    DB:2.71:Some Osd Questions. mk

    Thanks Niall, appreciate the response.

Yes, we have multicasting enabled. Whether it is done correctly or not, I don't know. Our network group handles this.
But I know it wasn't working at all before they enabled it. Like I said multicast works, but just slow unless I changed the registry value.
I'm using the MDT integrated TS and haven't added any additional steps.
    Another question along these lines:
Should the OSD TS be set to download content or access content directly ? I think I read something where you stated that it was faster when set to access content directly. When I did this, it looked like the .wim wasn't
being downloaded using multicast. So I'm assuming that If I want to use multicast, it should be set to download content.
So when I have download content set on the OSD TS advertisement, and I have allow this package to be transferred via multicast on the MDT toolkit package, I think I saw the MDT package being downloaded 5 times. I think
the MDT integrated TS has this step listed 5 times. Persist content in client cache didn't seem to do anything.

    Thanks

    DB:2.71:Osd 90 mx

With the 5-lnb dish when you are tuned to a channel on the 99 or 101 satellite guide data comes from 101. When you are tuned to a channel coming from 103/110/119 the guide comes from 119, this is part of what is called the "stacking plan". That means that if you don't have line-of-sight to 119, when you are tuned (for example) to an HD channel coming from 103 you won't get the guide data refreshed and so you will get this error message (and eventually lose the guide data). The way to solve this problem properly is to replce the SL5 LNB in the Dish with an SL3 - the SL3 is electrically different (has a different stacking plan) from the SL5, it does not see the 119 satellite and so it puts the guide data coming from 101 onto the signals when you are tuned to a channel from 103 - essentially it fakes out the receiver into believing the guide data is coming from 119 even though it isn't.Despite what some installers may tell you, just setting the dish type to Slimline 3 when you have a Slimline 5 does NOT solve the problem. You need to replace the SL5 LNB with the SL3.EDIT: I should add that if you use an SWM LNB (or you are using the SWM8 multiswitch) the problem also goes away, because the SWM always uses guide data from 101.

DB:2.69:Help Combining Current Gold Image Osd With Udi Ts sf

    Good Afternoon -

I currently have an OSD TS advertised which our HelpDesk uses frequently. It's fairly straightforward as besides choosing which task sequence they wish to run, they are only prompted for a hostname - that's it.

Having the hostname prompt is nice, but there are still many things I'd like to add. I've always had MDT 2012 integrated and have used the UDI Wizard to create the exact sequence I want them to see; but can't get it to work with my current Gold Image.

I've integrated the UDI scripts into a toolkit package and tried creating TS's from scratch as well as editing them, but can't ever get it to work. I've search Google for a step by step guide for how to integrate UDI with a current OSD deployment as well
as many other things; but can't get it to work as it seems I'm missing steps.

Below is an overview of what I want to happen for a new computer once a tech selects to run our UDI Task Sequence:

Select Target - Have option to restore previously captured USMT Profile (I auto capture all workstations on schedule)Computer Page - Enter Computer Name OU - domain credentials are greyed outLanguage - Only be able to select time zone - all rest is greyed outInstall Programs Page - I've already added many things to this page for add-on applications to imageSummary PageAfter clicking Finish on Summary Page, have the computer image just as it does with our current OSD TS. The next input I want the tech to have would be hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del once TS is complete.

Again, I've already set all of the above up in aUDIWizard_Config.xml andUDIWizard_Config.xml.app file as well as put them into a Toolkit Package.

It must be just a couple of steps that I'm missing - Any Ideas? Thanks!

DB:2.68:Sccm Osd Workstation Rebuild Problems a9

I have got to be missing something. I've set up a small isolated lab to test SCCM as a platform for doing our Windows 7 OS deployments.
I followed the Quick Start Guide for Configuration Manager 2007 that came with MDT 2010 when setting up my SCCM server.
The build and capture Task Sequence works fine and I'm able to deploy a customized image as well (bare-metal builds work great).
So, my next step would be how to rebuild an existing machine, and that's were the wheels fall off the cart (so to speak).

I have an exiting Windows 7 client workstation. It's a member of the domain and has a working SCCM client pointing to my lab SCCM server.
I created an MDT Task Sequence in SCCM, a basic Client Task Sequence to deploy my image
I have a collection with my target workstation as the only member I advertise my rebuild Task Sequence to that collection The TS executes on the workstation, but it reboots right after hitting the Apply Operating System Image (that task only runs for a few seconds, so it cannot be completing correctly)
Upon reboot I get a Windows Boot Manager error 0xc000000e The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

I don't have any custom actions in the Task Sequence, in fact after running through the wizard I have not modified the TS at all. So I have to be missing something simple.
I've found a lot of helpful info on doing bare metal builds with SCCM but little on in-place rebuilds. Does anyone have any suggestions for info on rebuilds? Once I get the ball rolling I should be all set.
    Thanks

DB:2.68:Sccm Osd Workstation Rebuild Problems a9

Incorrect boot image might have been specified in the task sequence.
If the boot image is correct as per the OS architecture then you need to analyze the smsts.log for more information.
Enable the command prompt on the boot image. When system is in WinPe copy the smsts.log at a network share. You need to press F8 to get into the cmd prompt while in WinPe.
The smsts.log can be stored in one of 7 locations, depending on the stage of the build and the architecture of the OS:

    WindowsPE, before HDD format:
    x:\windows\temp\smstslog\smsts.log

I recently got the PXE rep and MDR for my deployment area set up. Doing single Classic Download images works perfectly. When I go to do a Multicast image however, I can only send the image out once. Any subsequent attempts result in the machines just sitting there doing nothing. The logs don't show any errors of any sort, the target machines just report SLEEP every 5 minutes. If I go in to the SDMCache folder and delete the image files, the image will once again deploy. But, again, any subsequent attempts will result in nothing happening. I'm PXE booting the machines into a Windows PE Managed environment and then taking the machines from the PXE Holding que and dragging them to the multicast OSD script I've created. Like I said, it works great.....once. I'm lost here. Any ideas? What logs or scripts do you need to see?

Ok, after further work, I have determined that it will pass the image again. It just waits until it copies the image files back to the sdmcache folder again. The files already exist in the folder, so what am I missing?

    Hi,
Enable the Debug Shell on your boot image
Boot images have an option to enable a command shell while running in Windows PE. This is turned off by default for security reasons (since it would allow an end user to open a command shell during the re-imaging process) but can be enabled on the
    “Windows PE” property page.

Open the boot image’s properties dialogOn the Windows PE tab check the “Enable command support (testing only)” optionUpdate the boot image on the distribution pointsRebuild any media that uses the boot image (e.g. capture media, boot media, or stand-alone media)
When a task sequence is running in Windows PE you can open a command shell by pressing F8. As long as the command-shell is open the task sequence will not reboot the machine. This will give you a chance to verify network connectivity, diagnose driver
issues, and view/copy the log files (see Client Log Files section below).
For more information, please review the link below and hopefully it will help you.

if you are advertising an OS deployment task sequence to the unknown computers collection, then only
unknown computers will be able to see that advertisement , once they are installed with an OS (and as part of that process, the configmgr client) they become known, and therefore cannot be reimaged until you either add them to another collection
that has a Deploy OS task sequence advertised to it, or delete the computer record from the Configmgr database (highlight the system in the All Systems collection, right click the computer, delete).
If you system does not show up in All Systems and you still cannot image it, check that a record for it doesn't exist in the Unprovisioned computers node of OSD, perhaps it didnt finish an OS install successfully...

    Does that help ?

DB:2.64:New .Wim File No Longer Installs Task Sequence Drivers 31

OSD TS completes successfully with A.wim for machines C(Dell GX745) and D(Dell GX620) all drivers installed correctly
I wanted to create an updated image so I setup a machine with OSD using A.wim and then A/R some programs and ran some updates and did the standard sysprep/osd cap sequence which created B.wim.
B.wim imports into SCCM successfully(updated DPs)and I now change the wim file associated with apply operating system in the TS from A.wim to B.wim. OSD works and runs through the typical apply device drivers/apply driver packages(based on
WMI query). However, upon booting up into windows machine D now has drivers missing. Machine C still installs properly. So I went back to the TS and change from B.wim to A.wim and now both machines C and D install drivers properly.
I changed from A.wim back to B.wim and once again drivers on machine D are not being installed. I watched the whole TS run through and I can see it going through the apply driver package step created specifically for model D.
Anyone have any ideas what is going on out there? Why are the drivers mysteriously not working for the new .wim file? Or cananyone point me to a log file that might indicate what is happening? Thanks in advance.

DB:2.64:New .Wim File No Longer Installs Task Sequence Drivers 31

Thank you John. You have bettered my understanding of the sysprep process.
As you mentioned above the first sysprepped system A.wim had drivers located under C:\drivers. So when I created B.wim with the sysprep process it appears that sysprep process would not delete or overwrite the C:\drivers directory. Previously,
it was to my understanding that sysprep would uninstall the old drivers and anonymize the sysprep image for any type of hardware setup. Unfortunately if the C:\drivers directoryalready exists before sysprepping an image it can cause complications.
So, in my situation, when B.wim was OSD pushed (B.wim created from A.wim with gx745 drivers inside C:\drivers directory)to a Dell GX745 the drivers would install(because they were already present on the wim file), but when B.wim wasOSD
pushedto a Dell GX620 the new drivers for a 620 would not install because a C:\drivers directory already existed with GX745 drivers inside that directory.
I believe that is what was occurring.
    SUMMARY:
When creating a New.WIM file from a system that was created via an OSD push with OLD.wim be sure to delete the C:\drivers directory before sysprepping the New.WIM file.
I am sure this hasbeen documented somewhere else, but up to this point I was unaware of this necessary sysprep step.

    Can anyone tell me why??

    Code Snippet

    DB:2.64:Timercallback Runs Only Once?? k1

Please refer to the Timer class constructor documentation:

The method specified for callback should be reentrant, because it is called on ThreadPool threads. The method can be executed simultaneously on two thread pool threads if the timer interval is less than the time required to execute the method, or if all thread pool threads are in use and the method is queued multiple times.

Your code does not wait for these threads to execute but proceeds to return statement after calling a-hello().
You should build synchronization mechanism into your code.
    AutoResetEvent is one option.

We have a packagecontaining a program that we can happily deploy to computers through a collection. We also have an OSD task sequence that installs Windows XP, several other packages one after the other and then applies windows updates. This all works absolutely fine. However, when we add this additional package to the OSD task sequence, it does not install (even though every other package does).Further to this, I have created a test task sequence containing only the required package and when this runs, the package deploys as expected without a problem. The program is set to install against the computer's system account and it isconfigured to installsilently without any user interaction and set to install without any user being logged on. It is also configured to Allow this program to be installed from the Install Software task sequence without being advertised Has anyone else encountered this situation? I don't understand how the test task sequence works, but the OSD one does not when none of the settings for the install software step are different! Many thanks.

    DB:2.64:Package In Task Sequence 8p

What package is it? I know I had similar issues with Adobe CS4 software, and some other software as well. I'd bet the software is checking to see if the machine needs to reboot and one of your previous packages requires a reboot prior to completing. Try putting the application before all other apps and see if that works.

DB:2.63:Non-Deployed Applications In Osd Task Sequence Are Deployed To Collection Members Where Osd Ts Is Deployed mf

    Hello,
I have a situation where an application (which is not deployed) that is part of an OSD Task Sequence is being deployed to computers that are in the same collection my TS for OSD is deployed.
For OSD I have created an application to check the BIOS version and upgrade the BIOS if there is a newer one available. The application has numerous deployment types (13) due to various hardware models and the requirement to go to several intermediary BIOS
versions to reach the current newest version. There are dependencies configured to handle these incremental bumps.
The OSD TS is deployed to a collection that contains all windows desktop class operating systems. What I have seen happen once is that one users workstation somehow discovered and installed the BIOS Upgrade package and their BIOS was upgraded on their workstation.
I've checked the logs on several other machines and this same application has been run as well.
The application is configured Allow this application to be installed from the Install Applications
task sequence action without being deployed which allows it to be ran from a TS even though it is not deployed.
I have verified the application is not deployed. I have verified there are no superceedence rules configured. As I stated, there are dependencies, but all dependencies are within this one application.
What I do not understand is, how can an application that is not
deployed and is only referenced in an Operating System Deployment Task Sequence able to be ran outside the task sequence?

This is/has occurred with computers imaged with cm2012 and with computers imaged with cm2007 who have now been migrated to cm2012.
I'm fairly sure that it is due to the task sequence and where it is advertised. Computers that are not in this collection do not show the application being applied in the AppEnforce.log. If it is the TS that is causing this, how can something that is designed
to be a sequence of tasks, allow something to occur out of that sequence?
    Current environment is CM2012R2.
Any thoughts to what might be happening?

    Thanks

task sequence runs through every step fine, but after os deployment, config manager client is installed and then it has a brand new sms guid. In the console I can see under osd computer association that it creates an entry for the machine to do an in
place migration. but it is my understanding that the new client, once deployed on the freshly imaged machine, should have the same guid as the previous so that it can complete the task sequence. Although the user data is uploaded to the smp, it is never
redeployed to the new machine. I guess I'm confused as to how this should work. Any advice would be helpful.

DB:2.61:In Place Migration/Refresh Task Sequence Doesnt Complete 7f

So you are doing an OS to OS refresh correct?
ConfigMgr should match up the client records in the database and thus you won't have an old client and a new client, just the single one. I don't know off the top of my head, but i would suspect the GUID changes, but the client ID doesn't.MCTS: ConfigMgr, MDT / http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/cnackers/default.aspx

    Hello
Im using an OSD script in Pre Launch modein one of the shortcut which runs a vbs. The vbs imports the regsitry (.reg file)using the reg import function (.reg file has the server names).
On launching the shortcut i can see the registry getting imported correctly by opening Registry Editor(have another shortcut pointing to it), however once i close down both the shortcut (the OSD one and the registry editor) and wait for both of them to shutdown
and then retry launching the Registry Editor shortcut i can see that all the registry from that hive has been deleted and only the server names are seen.
Any one got any reason why this would be happening?

DB:2.61:Registry Deleted Automatically After Closing The Shortcut In App-V (Stand Alone Mode Without Streaming) da

Well it was not actually deleting the registry when i did more research on this.
Its very intresting what i have found.
The was sequenced on 64 bit. In the OSD i had used the below for running the vbs (which imports the .reg file):
    HREF%windir%\system32\cscript.exe -nologo %programfiles(x86)%\testing\test.vbs/HREF
The .reg file had 64bit as well as 32bit registry, hence when the vbs was running from OSD it would write correctly the 64bit registry as well as the 32bit registry also, but after closing the shortcut in the 32bit registry (under Wow6432Node) would be
disappeared and only the values from .reg file would be seen. Hence i feel that it does not actually remove the registry but it only shows in the view (as the app functions correctly).
Also since the app was 32bit and hence only registry under Wow6432Node was required, i changed the .reg file and removeall references of Wow6432Node and used the 32bit cscript.exe to run the vbs (so that it writes the values to the Wow6432Node)
    HREF%windir%\sysWow64\cscript.exe -nologo %programfiles(x86)%\testing\test.vbs/HREF
This has helped me resolve the issue.

DB:2.60:Pop-Up Osd Volume Control Gets Stuck On A Particular Value After Changing Audio Devices Until Rebooting fk

When you adjust the volume with media keys a pop-up (OSD) volume control appears in the top left of your screen showing the new volume level. You can also click on it once it has appeared to quickly set the volume to a new level.

I have noticed that sometimes if you adjust your sound device settings this volume control can get stuck displaying a previous value - for the sake of example, let's say 50%. When you adjust the volume via the keyboard the system volume does change, but
the OSD displays the new value briefly before flickering back to the previous value. If you were adjust the volume up from zero it would display 0%-50%---2%-50%---4%-50%---6%-50% etc. If you click on it in this stuck state it changes the stuck value but doesn't
actually change the system volume level.

I can replicate the issue by unplugging my primary (and in-use) audio device then plugging it back in. I have four audio devices in my system:

SB X-Fi Go! (USB, primary device, the only one that gets daily use - using Creative's drivers rather than stock USB audio ones).Rear-panel motherboard audio ("High Definition Audio Device", S/PDIF).Front-panel motherboard audio ( "High Definition Audio Device", headphones).HDMI (Radeon HD6770).
Rebooting the PC corrects the issue. The volume control in the charms bar is
    not affected.

DB:2.60:Pop-Up Osd Volume Control Gets Stuck On A Particular Value After Changing Audio Devices Until Rebooting fk

I am having the same issue with one of my playback devices.
I have the SB Live external USB with speakers and SPDIF connected. The internal laptop speakers are also present and selectable. I only have Microsoft-supplied drivers installed for audio.

Only when the SPDIF-Out is set as the default playback device does the volume display bug exist. I can switch to other devices and have it work correctly, but when switching back to SPIDF, the problem returns. Normaly I have SPDIF as the default and never
change it (boots to this pick) so the problem is immediate on use of the keyboard volume buttons after initial boot. (50% is the bug's lowest display limit in this case)

I hope this info helps in troubleshooting the issue.

DB:2.60:Weird Issue: Cpu Clock Multiplier Changes During Osd Ts Only On Single Model At Single Site pj

    Hey Guys -
I've got a weird issue I need suggestions on, please. I recently started at a company which already had pretty extensive OSD TS used for all models. One issue they were having was that a specific model (Dell E5440) at only one specific site would
not only go through the OSD TS slowly, but run slowly after being imaged. Weird issue!
    The Issue
When looking into it today, I ran an extensive report on a machine with the issue and my system which is also an E5440. I exported the reports (16mb each) to a text file then compared in WinMerge. When I reached CPU Type, I found the following
    difference:

    My Machine:Intel Core i7-4600U, 3000 MHz (30 x 100)E5440 /w Issue:Intel Core i7-4600U, 800 MHz (8 x 100)
As you can see, the multiplier is somehow at 8 instead of 30. how does this happen during OSD - especially - only at a single site which runs the exact same task sequence?
I looked through the TS (which I'm still becoming famailer with) but haven't seen anything which would edit the BIOS. To be honest, I wouldn't even think that changing the CPU clock would be possible with this type of model.
Any ideas or suggestions as to how to fix and/or (more importantly) why this is happening?
    Thanks!

    Ben K.

DB:2.60:Weird Issue: Cpu Clock Multiplier Changes During Osd Ts Only On Single Model At Single Site pj

Finally found issue. Wanted to post in case anyone had issue in the future. Turns out that the issue was not with SCCM.

The tech at that one site uses the same 65W power adapter for all models at his bench. As it turns out, the issue was that Intel Speedstep saw the 65W, thought it wasn't enough, so moved
    the multiplier down to x8.

When having them try a 90W power adapter (which shipped with the system,) the issue was resolved and moved back up to where it should be.

Strange as Dell does sell a 65W as an accessory to the E5440, but doesn't mention any speed difference.

    Thanks for your suggestions!Ben K.

Hello - looking for some help, if at all possible.

We just switched from 8.6 to 8.8.

At this point I'm trying to do a couple things - first our 8.6 server deployed ghost images under a DOS format.

Since our images to date are in this format - I would like to get this working on the 8.8

DOS - currently it fails when using HTGET to access the "landesk/files/"filename".inf files
It brings up the PXE/DOS menu and once selected it will run through 5 commands then fails.

It is creating a log file CJ-OSD.......

The second item I would like to get working is of course WinPE.
At this point - I can get to the scripts menu - once the script is selected the menu disappears then thats it - just hangs.

It creates a entry in the CoreWebServices.log - but stops at ShouldGoInPXEHoldingQueue - never runs the script.

Never creates a CJ-OSD.... log file.

LD Inventory server was restarted as well as LD Mgt Agent.

If I go to PXE.asmx and RunScript - a CustJob box does not pop up - but it does create a CJ-OSD.... log file at that point.

I've reset the IIS - re-registered the ASP - checked all the folder accesses I could think of.

I've also checked the NIC - I have a IP and it is recognized.

I know I'm close - just not sure where to go from here.

If anyone could point me in the right direction - I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks

My issue with the WinPE - I was apparently referencing the wrong GUID when trying to do the RunScript on the core server.

It will now work - only if I run the script on the core server - generating a log file.

I've reset IIS, re-registered the ASP.NET and verified that the Management Agent Service is working.

    Looking for any insight.

DB:2.59:Any Way To Safely Use Windows Path Variables In A Script Written In Osd File? 8z

Using %USERPROFILE% in a script written in an OSD file caused some BIG problems for me today. Here's the gist of what was done and how it got me in trouble:
    1) Wrote a launch and shutdown script into an OSD file for an app that needed a folder to be created at launch and deleted (for security purposes) at shutdown. The code was something like this:
    pre launch
    md %USERPROFILE%\\GeneratedDocuments\n
    post shutdown
    rd %USERPROFILE%\\GeneratedDocuments\n
    2) Tested it on myself; worked great.
    3) Pushed out the change.
    4) Find out that every user who's name (aka profile) starts with t got their profile deleted, along with any other profiles on the machine.
It took me a while to figure out what exactly was causing it, but perhaps you App-V pros can already see what I did wrong here. Even though I am fully aware of the need to use \ in pairs when not being used as an escape character, it didn'toccurto
me that the \s in path variables like %userprofile% would be unacceptable in their raw form once App-V compiled the batch file.
So once I heard that Teresa was having trouble on her computer, only to find that the command being run on her machine was:
    rd C:\Users eresa\\GeneratedDocuments\n
you can imagine how I felt. Good thing she had Shadow Copy enabled. And it's a good thing we found out before anyone else ran into the same problem.
Anyway, my question is: Is there an easy way for us to be able to safely use these extremely useful path variables straight in OSD files? Or am I going to just have to use HREF to run a pre-made batch file to do what I want here?

DB:2.59:Specify Computer Name For Osd 78

In SMS 2003, we could specify a computer name before the image ran, and the comptuer did not have to be added to a collection ahead of time.

I am able to get by the second part, using the PXEFilter.vbs that comes with the Micorsoft Deployment Kit, but it adds the comptuer to the collection with a name MAC00112233445566 and once the image runs, that the computer name that it takes on. Is there a way to change that in the filter? Or have some sort of prompt that allows me to choose the computer name?

    Thanks!

DB:2.59:Specify Computer Name For Osd 78

This is the script we run right after we partition the disk:

    set env = CreateObject(Microsoft.SMS.TSEnvironment)
    Do While numCount = 0
Name = inputbox(Please enter a computer name: ,Genworth Imaging Team,env(_SMSTSMachineName),400,0)
    If Name = Then
Wscript.Echo A computer name is required.
    Else
    env(OSDComputerName) = Name
    Exit Do
    End If
    Loop

It will prompt the tech to enter the PC name. We've got it imported like a typical package and call it in the script as a command line (GetComputerName\GetComputerName.vbs). We also use Success code 0 3010 on the options tab.

DB:2.58:Best Method To Apply Symantec Disk Encryption During Osd kc

    Good Afternoon All -
In the past year, I've migrated almost all of our company's imaging process. It's gone from having multiple LANDesk images to a single, global SCCM OSD Image, and now have implemented UDI into the mix.
For disk encryption, we currently use Symantec which I don't know a ton about. For each department, there is a Desktop OU, Laptop OU, and Encrypted Laptop OU. Moving a machine to the Encrypted one is what performs the entire encryption process.
I looked in GP and found that there is a GPO which does the following:
    - Runs SEE_Framework_Loaners_Latest_x64.msi
    - RunsSEE_FD_Loaners_x64_new_192012_x64.msi
After that a tech configures it from a GUI console I assume after the installation is complete.
    Question / Issue
Now that I've implemented UDI, users may select the target OU before the computer is imaged. When selecting an Encrypted OU, the computer images and is placed there - but encryption never runs.
I've been testing adding the two MSIs as packages in the OSD TS, but wanted to post and see if there was not only a better method, but perhaps a better method to deploy Symantec Encryption period.
    Any Ideas? Thanks!

    Ben K.

DB:2.58:Best Method To Apply Symantec Disk Encryption During Osd kc

You could install based on the value of OSDDomainOUName, if this matches an OU which is encrypted then install the software. Here is a link of an implementation of this in ConfigMgr 2007 but it should be the same...

DB:2.58:Osd - Mandatory Ts Advertisement For Os Refresh mc

We have a single TS which can be used for both bare metal and refresh deployments for all XP systems within our SCCM environment.  We have also implemented unknown computer support in SCCM R2 and can successfully execute the TS through this method.
However one area that seems a little confusing is how best to advertise the TS to the clients if they need to be rebuilt (OS refresh) in the future.  We have created a separate “OS refresh” collection with a mandatory advertisement, when adding a client to the collection as a direct member it receives the advertisement and runs the TS OK.
The only problem is that the program re-run behaviour in the advertisement has to be set to “always re-run” as we are using the same TS (program) for the initial bare metal deployment.  This means that once the refresh process has completed it re-runs the advertisement again, going into an infinite loop of OS deployment until the client is removed from the collection.  The client retains the same GUID/object within SCCM but I'm not sure how this affects what adverisements/programs would get re-run after the OS is re-installed.
Apart from manually adding and removing PCs from the OS refresh collection are there any best practices for arranging collections and advertisements to deal with this scenario?  I was hoping to find some way of making a client fall in scope of the collection when an OS rebuild is required but then automatically fall out of scope of the collection when completed.
We would prefer to stay with a single TS for OS deployment but just need a way of organising the collections and advertisements so that the administrative overhead is kept to a minimum.
    Thanks.

DB:2.58:Osd - Mandatory Ts Advertisement For Os Refresh mc

Most of my task sequence collections are self cleaning so I don't run into this little snag. I have semi automated the universities deployment process via web deployment services coupled with a front end web page that our
technicians can use to deploy operating systems as well as applications. This requires that those task sequences be mandatory and for the advertisement set to always rerun. I use a status filter to remove workstations from collections once the task sequence
has successfully completed. I think this might be helpful in your situation. the status filter is as follows:

The action tab specifies a vbs script to be run when the task sequence manager throws a 11171 message,(hey, a task sequence just finished successfully running.)

the script it runs is as follows:

We are installing Windows 7 via OSD and it all works. But we've noticed that once the OSD is done the folder C:\_SMSTaskSequence is still on the machine and it is over 5GB in size. It has all of the packages that were installed during the OSD.
Why is this not being deleted? How come C:\Windows\CCMCACHE is not the package cache?

It looks like it is finishing fine. Normally, the only time I've seen the _SMSTaskSequence folder being left behind is one just one or a couple files were still in use (like with USMT or certain logs), but that would only leave a few files/folders
    not everything.
If you want to triple check that the persist variable is not set, you could write out

the TS variables to a log file.

    DB:2.57:Osd Apipa Issue dj

    Hi All,

I am having another issue with SCCM OSD now.

The OSD task runs successfully. The Client boots into windows and has an address. Once the address lease is up the client just goes APIPA 169 (tentative). I can manually release
and renew and the client will happily speak to DHCP and obtain an address.

A couple of things to note:
    * Once the machine reboots into PE is obtains an address which is for the next day, NOT the current date. I'm guessing this is a time zone issue in the boot image. However the lease
obtained and expire times are correct.
    * When I run an ipconfig /all after OSD on the client the lease obtained time is always Sunday 29th November 1874 - Weird!

I have tried removing all network drivers and installing the latest ones. I have also updated all the network drivers in the boot image.
I am certain this issue is related to the SCCM OSD deployment as the three test computers I'm using are the only computers to have this problem in our environment.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    DB:2.57:Osd Apipa Issue dj

To fix this issue I just added an extra restart in the OSD task sequence. This reboots the machine and the DHCP client service and the machine gets an address.

    entrekk-admin\Application Data\SoftGrid Client\EHMHMR9B.V01-73F92710-F621-4D54\UsrVol_sftfs_v1.pkg
A return is placed after Documents and Settings because it sees the \n as an end of line.
How can I get the system to create the .bat file without reading \n as an end of line?
Also, if I change the script to look something like this:
    SCRIPT EVENT=STREAM TIMING=PRE PROTECT=FALSE WAIT=FALSE TIMEOUT=0
    SCRIPTBODYdel C:\\Documents and Settings\\%USERNAME%\\Application Data\\SoftGrid Client\\EHMHMR9B.V01-73F92710-F621-4D54\\UsrVol_sftfs_v1.pkg\n/SCRIPTBODY
    /SCRIPT
It will work, but only once, then I receive this error: A Script element in this OSD file is missing an executable. Report the following error code to your System Administrator. This occurs on 4.6 clients and I have seen other posts that say this is an issue
with the 4.6 client that may need to be addressed. I really don't want to roll back a couple hundred clients so that a few users with the last name beginning with the letter n can run the app without issue. Do date only one n user has complained.
Maybe there is an XML guru that can help
There are several reasons for doing it this way, one of them being that I am trying to keep it simple without needing to rely on network paths that users would need access to, etc.
    Thanks

DB:2.56:Apply Desired Operating System In Osd fp

first of all, you should capture and image ofall the version of the OS you need to deploy. then add multiple apply operating system steps installing the different versions of the OS, and set options on those steps, only to run if a variable is present
    (or set to true).
To set the variable you can do a number of things.
    1. add a custom hook to the boot image and create a HTA where you can choose the different operating systems, and set a variable on the computer object based on that.
    2. create a small script to prompt the user for OS version during the TS and set the variable that way
    3. create collection for the different versions, add the corresponding variables to those collections, and then place the computer/server to be deployed in the correct collection. (these collections could me sub collections so you only have to advertise
your TS to the root colMichael Petersen My Deployment Blog -

    DB:2.56:Osd Task Sequence Continually Re-Running 8j

I am trying to implement a zero-touch imaging solution using SCCM OSD and am having a problem where re-imaged machines continually re-runs the Task Sequence once it has completed. The scenario is as follows:1) An OSD task sequence is advertised to a collection used for re-imaging existing machines (SCCM client receives advertisement under Windows and executes re-imaging task) and bare metal (PXE boot).2) Advertisement is mandatory and has the following notable attributes:- On General tab, Make this task sequence available to boot media and PXE is enabled.- On the Schedule tab, a mandatory date/time is assigned, Enable Wake on LAN is enabled, Program rerun behavior is set to Always rerun program. If I run the task sequence in either a barebones (PXE boot) or re-image (Client under Windows) scenario, once it completes, it almost immediately starts imaging the machine again. This process repeats every time the task sequence completes. My questions are as follows:1) What is the expected behavior of the Always rerun program behavior for a Task Sequence advertisement. Our initial estimation was that this was similar to earlier versions of SMS where this would only automatically execute if a new mandatory was created after an existing mandatory had already executed. This behavior seems to be working as expected for SCCM package-based advertisements, just not for Task Sequence advertisements.2) Assuming that the behavior described above is expected, what is the recommended method for getting a true zero-touch imaging solution. What I am looking to implement is a process such as follows:- An admin adds an existing machine to a collection- The machine receives an advertisement and executes it without user intervention- The machine completes all of the elements involved in the re-image- The machine then does not re-execute the task sequence upon completionAlso, it should be noted that I tried changing the advertisement rerun behavior to Never rerun advertised program, but the problem is if I select that option then re-image, I will not be able to re-image that machine using a zero-touch method again from then on.
Specifically, using that setting, here is what occurs:1) If machine has not run the re-image task before and it is put into re-image collection. Advertisement runs and machine is re-imaged automatically (no touch on the workstation).
    2) Later on I wish to re-image that same machine, I put it into the re-image collection and create a new mandatory date for the advertisement. Status for the advertisement indicates that the program will not run again since it has previously run (based on the Never rerun advertised program setting in the advertisement).
I can re-run the task sequence for the machine in this scenario if I enable Allow users to run the program independently of assignments on the Interaction tab of the advertisement properties, but this entails a manual initiation of the task sequence by a user logged into the workstation. This would take out the zero-touch aspect of it and make it a zero-touch first time, lite-touch thereafter scenario.
It is notable that from the status reports on the advertisement, the machine is evaluating the advertisement and is only not running it due to the Never rerun advertised program being set. This contrasts with reports for a non-task sequence advertisement (an SMS program) on the same server with a mandatory set. The status shows that the program runs once per machine and the last status indicates that the program ran successfully. There is no additional status showing that SCCM evaluated whether the program needed to be re-run.
This is important for another problem I have been having with my OSD task sequence advertisements having reporting data where every re-image has a final status of Will Not Rerun. Not Failed or Successful, just Will Not Rerun. This creates problems for trying to ascertain the status of any of re-image jobs due to flawed data in the reports.Any help that anyone can provide on this would be greatly appreciated.

Currently having an issue with a client computer trying to complete the OSD.

After completing the second reboot, the client loses it's network card driver and as such fails the OSD because it can't contact the DP.
I've seen issues before where a machine will PXE ok, but then drop after rebooting into the Windows environment, however this is working ok in the Windows environment up until the second reboot. The strangest thing is that this machine used to work all the

DB:2.55:Amt And Intel Mei Driver Issue On Laptop Models During Osd a1

I have put together an OSD task sequence that we use with boot images off of CD media. Everything works great, except on my HP EliteBook 8470p laptops. On the 8470p, the sequence runs, everything does complete successfully, however, when the
task sequence is done and I look at the Device Manager, I have, under Unknown, two Unknown device entries,a PCI Simple Communications Controller, and occasionally another entry that ties back to the Intel AMT/SOL driver. The PCI Simple Communications
Controller ties back to the Intel Management Engine Interface.
That being said, if I right-click the PCI Simple Communication Controller, have it search for a driver, and let it go, the driver installs for it with no issues. Likewise, when the AMT piece is in there, a simple right-click and update works to resolve
it. The two unknown devices appear to be tied to the AMT/SOL and MEI, as once both are installed, uninstalling the Unknown Devices causes them to disappear forever.

I don't want my team having to go back on every PC we throw down using the OSD task sequence. I am injecting the drivers into the W7SP1 base image, and every other model we use (8460p, 8440p, and allthe desktop models) works with no issues.
I've verified the right drivers are imported, I've tried using drivers direct from Intel, as well as the ones from HP, and I've tried injecting the drivers for those devices at different times, but the end result is always the same.

Am I missing something? Like I said, it's not a hard step to fix in the end, but it should work right across the board and I'm lost as to what else I can check. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

DB:2.55:Amt And Intel Mei Driver Issue On Laptop Models During Osd a1

I never make apologies for resurrecting old threads. But apologies to whomever it may upset.

In any case, I am running into this same issue.
The AMT, MEI, Chipset (for the USB portion) and the audio drivers will NOT install no matter what during OSD. I can run
devcon rescan and the AMT and MEI portion will install as they are the only drivers listed as Unknown. The audio and the USB portion of the chipset do not reinstall. If I manually run a driver scan on each, then it installs. Weird thing is
that the drivers are being injected into the driverstore during OSD and the entire package for said model/machine is being dumped in. I don't have to tell Device Manager to look anywhere other than the local driverstore and it find the drivers. So that makes
no sense?? The drivers are being injected and downloaded but do not install despite a clear Hardware ID match?? What's up?

    Hello everyone,
I'm seeing quite alot of unusual behaviour at the moment. We're using SCCM 2012 SP1 CU1 with a CAS and Primary Site for demonstration purposes.
When adding a Computer to an Installation Collection, I can deploy a Task Sequence to that Collection, fire up the Computer via USB Boot Medium and kick of the OSD, which completes successfully. NO Unknow Computer support is activated! Neither is PXE!
When I try to run the OSD on the same machine again, the OSD fails with the message, that no Task Sequence is available. Nothing will work, until I've deleted the Computer from SCCM and reimported it.
I've read the this behaviour could be to an GUID not being unique, but I've tested that by creating a Collection and having a query add all systems with GUID xyz... only one system in the collection.
I have absolutly no idea why this is happening and I've never seen this behaviour before. Any ideas?

I have a few questions about your product in regards tocapturing a Windows 7 image using the steps How to Capture a Windows 7image with OSD using Imagew.exe v2 in 9.0 SP2 SP3 and 9.5 which can be found at this link How to Capture a Windows 7 image with OSD in LANDesk Management Suite 9.5, 9.0 SP2 and SP3. I added the link that I used so that you can see what I have alreadycompleted and the step that Im getting stuck on and perhaps you can give me asolution to this issue.

So the step that Im having trouble with is the last step onthis document. Once I select the OSD capture script(Capture_Windows_7_Imagew) at the end of this document Im not seeing theprocess that the last page shows (which is the progress of Creating Image).Instead I see two or three command prompt windows that appear and disappear andthen I just see the LANDesk background only. I do not see the image in the laststep of this document. Any ideas what this could be from?

I have tried the different options for running SYSPREP.EXEfor the Image Capturing and still have had no luck.

    DB:2.55:Osd Capture Script Issues 19

Not sure if this helps but I used to use the ImageW to capture/deploy images. I use a 100MB System Partition as the 1st Partition on the drive, and then the 2nd Partition is my Windows Partition. I did this just in case we ever enable BitLocker. So, in order for my Capture script to work I had to select from the GUI ('Image type and path' screen), "Specify which partition is the System or C: Drive" = 2. I saved the OSD script after filling in all the other required information in the GUI. This is what my Capture script looks like after the [MACHINES] section.

DB:2.55:How To Get Feed Back From An Osd Command Line Task Sequence Vbscript cm

    Hi,

I'm trying to get an OSD task sequence command line vbscript  to work. The trouble is it runs behind the Configuration Manager Background so I can't see what its doing. I've tried: cmd /k cscript.exe updateCollection.vbs, but that only stops the task sequence waiting for me to close the cmd prompt I can't get to.
The smsts.log only shows that it ran.
The script runs from my desktop when I map a drive to the server, just not when I load it into the task sequence and wait half an hour for the OS to get loaded and the script to run.

    I tried   cscript.exe updateCollection.vbs c:\output.txt
This works from the desktop but not in the command line task.

Anyone have any ideas about having the script output to its own log file.
Or any general debugging ideas at all.
     Thanks

DB:2.55:How To Get Feed Back From An Osd Command Line Task Sequence Vbscript cm

    Brett:

You say Actions that are run as part of a task sequence cannot interact with the desktop, but I haver Run Command Line items in my Task Sequences, executed during WinPE, using VBScript that eg. asks for the name of the computer. How is this possible?

    Thanks,

    Morgan

    DB:2.55:Bugs? ka

I have been using configmgr for more than an year now. There are two unexpected issues that happen every once in a while, they choose to happen only at the worst possible time (like at a demo to my boss or during major deployments). First, the domain admin account somehow fails to logon to the clients all of a sudden. This causes the configmgr client installtaion to fail with access denied error, and OSD fails too (in case of OSD, the TS would just fail with an obscure error). The only fix I found is recaching the domain admin account from ConfigMgr console. Second, the PXE certificates get blocked every once in a while! I have no idea why this happens. Everytime the certificates are blocked, OSD fails with An error occured while retrieving policy for this computer..... The fix in this case is to unblock all PXE certificates from configmgr. ConfigMgr which is otherwise a very powerfull tool looks unstable becuase of these issues. I usually dont have a good reason for why this happens when someone asks. I just shrug. **shrugs**Mayur

DB:2.55:Software Updates Deploy Well - Except On Osd Task Sequences f9

    Good Afternoon All -
I have my primary SCCM server set up to deploy Software Updates for Microsoft products to all of my workstations and most servers. Recently, it has been performing pretty well as I daily check the numbers of Required vs. Installed. I currently
have them divided into a few categories and advertised as listed below
    - Updates for Win7 advertised to All Workstations
    - Updates for XP advertised to All Workstations
    - Updates for Office advertised to All Workstations
    - Updates for Servers advertised to All Server Systems
The (seeming) only problem that I'm having with these updates currently is when performing a Task Sequence for Operating System Deployment. I will create a new Task Sequence, apply all of the settings needed including Install All Updates, then run
it. The OSD TS runs perfectly except for the updates. Once it's complete, I'll open Windows Update, check for updates, then see about 20-25 needed.
Note: In the four updates advertisements above, all of the updates to todays date are currently being advertised so it's not just new ones.
I've searched the log files, but haven't found an error directly pertaining to it yet. I searched for the package name of my Win7 updates, but couldn't find a reference to it. In the UpdateDeployments log, though, I did find a few instances of
Error getting logged on user token if that makes a difference,
    Questions:
    1. What would possibly be causing this?
    2. Even though advertised to All Workstations, do the updates need to have a separate advertisement to the Collection in which I'm advertising the OSD TS?
    3. Which log file should the error for this be in? smsts.log? UpdateDeployments.log?
Here's a link to my logs. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated - Thanks!

    Edit
I looked at the logs again and have the following info:
On the OSD that I just finished before typing this, I ran Windows Update. I checked online for updates and 28 were missing. I saw that update KB2425227 was needing to be installed and chose it to check against logs.
I looked in UpdatesStore(date).log and found that it said this about that specific update:
    Queried Update (dd971ba6-1fb9-4a75-9016-27209af98260): Status=Missing, Title=Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2425227), BulletinID=MS11-013, QNumbers=2425227, LocaleID=.
I also looked in my SCCM console and saw that it had been download and was in my Windows 7 Updates package which is currently being deployed. Too bad the missing part of the statement above wasn't more detailed.
Thought this info may help - Again, Thanks for your help and ideas!

If the current software update packages require a maintenance window do you have to set a maintenance window for the OSD deployment collection or does an OSD task sequence not require one?

Hello there, first there is to mention that my SL500 - since I possess it - shows a little unconventional behaviour.SinceI am used to having issues when usingMicrosoft Software I think its a Windows based Problem. To point out the troubles i want to give a short overview of my SL500 history:11/2008 Installation of Vista Business x64 - No Trouble, everything installs right11/2008 First Problems during use, often hung apps and long delays12/2008 Installation of Vista SP112/2008 Everything runs fine01/2009 WiFi doesnt work anymore in the Office, at home everything works fine.01/2009 two networking pros dont get the problem right oO = first reinstall01/2009 Lets Try Vista3201/2009 Install is horrible. Nothing works fine.Troubles over troubles. Fingerprint Device not recognized although driver properly installed...01/2009 Switch back to Vista64 = Reinstall01/2009 Installation without any difficulties01/2009 This time we dont install Thinkvantage Access Connections because its strongly assumed that the WiFi trouble came this way...01/2009 Everything runs fine.02/2009 One Day my TP SL500 goes to sleep and when back from wakeup there is no OSD Display any more.02/2009 Reinstallation of Drivers (Hotkey, System Interface, Monitor, GFX) does not help.02/2009 Still waiting for my OSD to come back.Since I need my Thinkpad at work there is no chance to make another reinstallation of Vista. My assumption:There is something in Vista (perhaps Windows Defender) that stops outdated Programs or programs with outdated licenses from working properly.Another possible reason is that there is some registry bug with Vista64 and so you have to reinstall the OS every two months.I dont know any reason why my OSD doesnt work any more.Perhaps you can help me with my disappeared OSD.In the Display Driver Settings/advanced/osdeveything is adjusted correctly.(since I use the german version of windows I dont know the exact english terms for that)The only thing that makes me worry about is that the switch for font size (small medium big) has no value in it.I even cant save a value to that switch. Trying to do so results in an empty switch when reopening window. Please help me to get back my OSD. I liked it so much ;(Message Edited by Knorke on 02-26-2009 05:22 AM

THANK-YOU very much. I now have my OSD with volume levels and screen brightness - i couldn't believe i finally got it working - it took me a whole week to sort it out. I"m so happy with the SL500 now that i nearly have everything working the way i want it with the downgrade to XP install. THanks again for the tip. I did initially try it but i think where i went wrong was i didn't use the Verdana font. So this afternoon i finally keyed in exactly as your message and voila! my OSD is back. Life is good again.

    DB:2.54:Osd Task Fails - Return Code -85 c9

We have a new Lenovo ThinkStation S20 that is giving us some problems with OSD. In approximately 6 attempts to run our OSD task we have had only one success. The OSD task runs ok on other machines.

Analyzing the failures I found that they all gave a Return Code of "-85" and the LANDesk OSD job showed a result of "Unknown status code (0x8DB9FFAB,3513:65451)".

The task log was very brief...

    "Machine","CbaStatus","ExitCode","Duration","Begin","End","Command""23050254SW13153","OK",0,0:00:00,8/3/2011 1:29:14 PM,8/3/2011 1:29:14 PM,"WINPE, TIMEOUT=1800" "23050254SW13153","ERR_Fail",-1917190229,0:02:00,8/3/2011 1:29:14 PM,8/3/2011 1:31:14 PM,"ldrun drvmap.exe psd70ad\ServiceAccountX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX I: """\\2305deploy\deploy$""", STATUS FACILITY=3513" ; "Job Complete","0 Done","1 Failed","0 Off","0 Unknown"

I eventually realized that the OSD task is failing because the Drive letter "I:" is already in use - this computer has a built in Multi Card Reader that in WinPE is using drive letters F: G: H: I: and J:.

My question is - should I edit my OSD scripts so that they use different drive letter mappings, or is there an easy way to make my scripts work with the default mappings of "H:" and "I:"? To put it another way, can I modify the PXE environment so that it always reserves Drive H: and I: no matter what devices are found on the computer? (My problem with editing the OSD scripts is that the whole problem could come back if we receive another new computer model with even more storage devices. I suppose I could choose a really high drive letter for my OSD scripts like "X:" and "Y:".)

If anybody has experience with this problem I'd be glad to see your solution or workaround. And if anybody comes across this thread because OSD is failing with Return Code "-85", then check in your Win PE boot and see if drive H: and I: have been used by a storage device.

I did an advanced edit on the OSD object but the next time i go in and make a change the script reverts back to REMEXEC23 being out of place. Where is the default script located so i can change this permanently?
