    Hi buddies,

    One of my staff's PC is receiving this error sometimes when she is trying to connect to the database and she is able to connect sometimes.

    Oracle Error :: ORA-12637 Packet receive failed What could be the cause.

    I tried replacing her tnsadmin with my tnsadmin and it didn't make a change, still able to connnect sometimes and sometimes not.

    Able to connect using PL/SQL developer, but not using our customized application. (Everyone else are able to connect)

    Is it network problem?

    Please advice.

    Thank You very much.

    Hi!

    Thanks for the reply.

    All of a sudden the staff is able to access again and we are going to restart our switch and routers to see if that could help the situation. She has problem very frequently so if it doesn't resolve, we will get to know quickly and I will try out your suggestions.

    Thank You so much.

    Will update you if everything is okay after following up the situation once we restart the switches and routers.

    Thanks.

    These numbers are quite high.

    The point to you having a half duplex connection with a lot of

    collisions.

    A possible source of packet loss might be a duplex mismatch. E.g. your

    server thinks you are running half duplex, while the device it is

    connected to is configured full duplex.

    So I would start by verifying the duplex setting.

    DB:3.54:Troubleshooting Access Problems Using Packet-Tracer 9s

    Troubleshooting access problems through a firewall is often very difficult, especially when speed to resolution is critical. Errors in long complex ACLs can be easily overlooked, and access failures caused by NAT, IDS, and routing make the problem even more difficult.

    Cisco has released an incredible new feature in ASA software version 7.2(1) that virtually eliminates the guesswork. Packet-tracer allows a firewall administrator to inject a virtual packet into the security appliance and track the flow from ingress to egress. Along the way, the packet is evaluated against flow and route lookups, ACLs, protocol inspection, NAT, and IDS. The power of the utility comes from the ability to simulate real-world traffic by specifying source and destination addresses with protocol and port information.

    Packet-tracer is available both from the CLI and in the ASDM. The ASDM version even includes animation (the value of which is questionable, but it is fun to watch), and the ability to navigate quickly to a failed policy.

    Here is the CLI syntax:

    packet-tracer input [src_int] protocol src_addr src_port dest_addr  dest_port [detailed] [xml]

    A few examples of truncated output show some of the most useful features. Not only does the tool show the result of an ACL evaluation, but also the specific ACE that either permits or denies the packet, including a hit on the implicit deny.

    asaTestlab# "packet-tracer input inside tcp 10.1.1.1 1024 10.4.1.1 23"

    Phase: 3 Type: ACCESS-LIST Subtype: log Result: ALLOW Config: access-group inside in interface inside access-list inside extended permit ip any 10.4.1.0 255.255.255.0

    Additional Information:

    asaTestlab# "packet-tracer input inside tcp 10.1.1.1 1024 10.4.2.1  5282"

    Phase: 3 Type: ACCESS-LIST Subtype: log Result: DROP Config:  access-group inside in interface inside access-list inside extended deny tcp any host 10.4.2.1 eq 5282

    Additional Information:

    Evaluations of other elements of the config are similarly specific. Here is an example with nat-control enabled but without proper address translation defined:

    asaTestlab# "packet-tracer input DMZ tcp 10.2.1.1 1024 10.4.2.1 http"

    Phase: 7 Type: NAT Subtype: Result: DROP Config: nat (DMZ) 0 access-list NoNAT nat-control    match ip DMZ any outside any       no translation group, implicit deny       policy_hits = 1

    Additional Information:

    - Kevin Miller, Herman Miller, Inc., Zeeland, Michigan, USA

    Packet-tracer does more than just inject a 'virtual'  packet into the data-plane. One can also add the 'trace' option to  the capture command, so that actual packets the security appliance  receives (which are matched by the capture) are also traced.

    Example:  ASA# "capture mycap access-list 199 interface outside trace"

    To view the packet-trace from captured packet #3 in the capture, use the command:  ASA# "show capture mycap trace packet-number 3"

    Hi Stevo,

    here\'s a page explaining all the tunable settings - as ab already wrote, the sysctl settings are not persistent across a reboot, you\'d have to edit /etc/sysctl.conf to have them re-applied automatically at bootup time.

    Only thing to note is that the command in step 2 should be sysctl -a (show all values), rather than sysctl -p (configure values from /etc/sysctl.conf) - see man 8 sysctl.

    I am developing a packet sniffer based on windows raw socket on windows 7. The program captures packet from IP layer. The issue
    i am facing here is, Program captures all packets but some of them are captured in wrong order, for eg. for a tcp connection establishment phase, instead of getting packets in SYN , SYN-ACK, ACK order i get it as SYN, ACK, SYN-ACK. Instead of capturing ACK
    after SYN-ACK(from remote), pgm gets ACK before SYN-ACK packet. Same thing is happening some times during data transfer phase also. Program captures the ACK packet of a data packet before the actual data packet. If i run a wireshark in parallel, it displays
    properly. I am using Visual Studio 2005 as the IDE.

    DB:3.25:Windows Raw Sockets Capturing Packets In Wrong Order 8k

    Hi,

    I do not know if you found it by yourself, but just a comment from my part, based on similar behavoirs I observed.
    You are using a raw protocol, that means, you do not have any protocol filtering in the socket. And exactly that is what you get from the socket: arriving packages without any filtering or order, and in this case, the socket let you get first the most
    recent message. Remember, using the socket in that way means, it is not garanteed that the order is the right one, it is not garanteed that the IP Layer answered in that way, it is not garanteed anything at all.
    Why do they appear right in Wireshark? Well, the order on the wire is the right one, but then, as you read the information from the socket, the IP layer gives you the most recent information. And in that layer, nothing is garanteed...

    to acess Oracle by ODBC or SQLPlus I receive the message:

    ORA 12637 Packet receive failed

    What is going on?

    I4ve looked up in Oracle Errors and I found this:

    ORA 12637 Packet receive failed

    Cause: A process was unable to receive a packet from another
    process. Possible causes include:

    The other process was terminated.

    The machine on which the other process is running went down.

    Some other communications error occurred.

    Action: If the cause is not obvious, contact Oracle Customer
    Support.

    What can I do and Where?

    DB:3.16:Error 12637 ms

    Seriously you can investigate the first suggestion. If the
    database process has terminated abnormally there should be
    something in the alert log. They may also be a trace file
    (*.trc) or even a core dump. The trace file may give you some
    indication of what's going wrong, teh core dump will be pretty
    meaningless (unless you're good at reading hex).

    Good luck, APC

    with Database10g whereas SQL*Plus 3.3 and Report
    3.0.5.10.2 work with Database 10g without problems.Well, I haven't an answer for that. Did you read Metalink note ? As I said before, when a combination is not supported, it does not necessarily mean it won't work, but if it doesn't work we can't complain with Oracle.

    You coud also try to open a service request, but I'm afraid the only answer you'd get would be : "Use a supported combination".

    Did you try to post your problem on Forms forum ?

    Are you sure it is caused by FCS on packets and not by using vlan tagging?

    Yes. I'm sure. We don't use .1q VLANs at our LAN. Also I have same problems with VMs on the host.

    Is this test something new in 5.4 (or it might be incompatibility with GSX3)?

    DB:3.11:Mqx With Uart... How To Receive? 8m

    Hi, I'm stuck on the UART - RX ....

    I'm using FRDM-K64 demo board and MQX 4.1.1

    From user config I'm set a new (ttyb) UART, the UART1.

    I correctly send data from K64 to my PC via serial port, but I have problem with receive routine...

    I can read the receive buffer with this function (from rs485 example NOT for frdm-k64 but for one TWR)

    fread(data_buffer, 1, 18, ttybSci1_dev);

    where ttybSci1_dev is name of my port. The problem is that I can read but MQX do not tell me when a packet (or a byte) arrive, like linux with the signal

    i suppose RX interrupt are managed by MQX and redefined tham I bypass MQX routine that acquire the byte

    there is, something similar SIGNAL in linux, that I can use? Something that alert me when a byte arrive?

    Example:

    /* For write I use: */

    char data_bufferTR[] = "\nTaskRead";

    write(ttybSci1_dev, data_bufferTR, strlen(data_bufferTR));

    fflush(ttybSci1_dev);

    /* For read I use */

    void *semReceivedData;

    if (_sem_open("SemaphoreForDataRX", semReceivedData) != MQX_OK) {

    printf("\nOpening semReceivedData semaphore failed.");

    _task_block();

    }

    if (_sem_wait(semReceivedData, 0) != MQX_OK) {

    printf("\nWwaiting for semReceivedDatasemaphore failed");

    _task_block();

    }

    fread(data_buffer, 1, NumberByteReceived, ttybSci1_dev)

    So I need how to give the semaphore semReceivedData when MQX receive a packet (or a byte and I will join all in a packet)

    Many thanks,

    Massimiliano

    DB:3.11:Mqx With Uart... How To Receive? 8m

    Hi, many thanks for your answer.

    I choice the first street so I use fread with one char every time.

    I NOT try (for now) to overwrite interrupt.

    Now my code is working, I'm setting up a timer (for timeout) after that I will modify this post and add the code.

    I have a question about your "simple" code :

    Do
    {
    bytesRead = fread(inBuffer,1,1,fd);
    _time_get_elapsed_ticks(lastByteTime);
    memcpy(inPacket[inPacketSize], inBuffer, bytesReaded);
    inPacketSize += bytesReaded;
    _time_get_elapsed_ticks(now);
    } while (_time_diff_milliseconds(now, lastByteTime, overflow) 250);

    You, before all, try to read something with "fread" after that you store a timestamp, copy in memory the byte and store another timestamp, right?

    but you in while (_time_diff_milliseconds(now, lastByteTime, overflow) 250); are using the total time used from CPU to store data, NOT the time between two byte, isn't it? I'm sorry maybe I'm wrong but I understand in this way....

    And another question: I suppose to move the instruction in this way:

    while (1)
    Do
    { _time_get_elapsed_ticks(lastByteTime);
    bytesRead = fread(inBuffer,1,1,fd);
    memcpy(inPacket[inPacketSize], inBuffer, bytesReaded);
    inPacketSize += bytesReaded;
    _time_get_elapsed_ticks(now);
    } while (_time_diff_milliseconds(now, lastByteTime, overflow) 250);
    lwsempost(lwUartSem)
    }

    So in this way I have the time between two byte BUT fread(inBuffer,1,1,fd); is a blocking function so on the last byte, my do while cycle will stuck on last byte and never reach the other instruction (like the: memcpy inPacketSize and the major important time_get_elapsed_ticks that store the time elapsed for the exit-check-Do/while-cycle) and never the instruction } while (_time_diff_milliseconds... that check if the time are elapsed... or not?
    (I add another cycle only for post the LW-sempahore)

    THE FIRST VERSION of my code, that not use timeout is that:

    This version stop rx when a CR/LF occours (ascii char 0x0D)

    It is only a demo version:

    - second packet will overwrite and lenght wil not reset

    - improvement #1 : best way is to use Queue but now I do not know how to do them in MQX (I never tryied... Now I will try do do them!!!)

    - improvement #2 : use timer to set a timeout instead "stop char" 0x0D and store the packet in a MQX-Queue (improvement #1)

    This is the code (please do not smile on my name of ittyb...) for any critical / suggestion / advice feel free to write them and I will answer: Maybe there is a better way and I will learn a new method (very probably that my code need changes...)

    Hello I can finally send and receive data with udp.
    But now I receive a packet

    socket.receive(packet);

    But how can I get the ipaddress, portnumber and data from the packet?
    I know I can get the byte length with socket.getLength.

    Hi,

    I am running Oracle 9i R.2 on Windows 2000 on server. All of clients are able to connect to database but few who are receiving this error ,

    ORA-12637: Packet receive failed

    Ps: I am able to tnsping my service successfuly.

    What could be the cause any suggestions on how I can resolve this.

    regards.

    DB:3.09:Ora-12637: Packet Receive Failed fd

    All the three solutions provided by Oracle documentation mentioned by you Prajeevan proved out of scope.

    The solution was the one which I am begining to think is the Elixir for most of the Oracle Net problems.

    The solution was to just comment the SQLNET_AUTHENTICATION =NTS in SQLNET.ORA file.

    If Oracle Mag asks me what I want to be included in next release of Oracle, along with providing an True Un-installer for Oracle software, I would wish Oracle to comment the above line by default in SQLNET.ORA file.

    regards.

    DB:3.09:Lwip Udp Packet Problem m9

    Hi,

    I am trying to receive a BOOTP UDP packet from a TI DSP. The packet does not make it through the lwip stack. I can receive and send other UDP packets just fine. I have included a wireshark screen capture. I belive the problem is the source and destination IP of the bootp packet are 0.0.0.0. I cannot change the IP source and destination of on the DSP. I'm wondering how I would go about digging into the lwip stack to get the packet before it is tossed. Thanks

    DB:3.05:Oracle Exception And Send Time Out f3

    Hi all -
    I sometimes get the followign two errors.I have outbound operation to oracle database. Is there an recommended value for Send timeout?
    I was looking at
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd788467(BTS.70).aspxwhich says sendTimeout is not supported. Can someone help please?
    I also get the following error. Not sure if both the errors are related to timeout issues. I believe the second error occured due to loss of connection. I am more curious about the first error ORA-01013.
    -------------------------------------------------
    The adapter failed to transmit message going to send port port1 with URL oracledb://xxxxxxxx/. It will be retransmitted after the retry interval specified for this Send Port. Details:Microsoft.ServiceModel.Channels.Common.MetadataException: Metadata

    The ORA-01013 is timeout error, and yes the second one is about connection failure or expired connection. SendTimeout is used to determine the Oracle timeout too in Adapter Pack V2 and above.-- Please mark as answered if this answers your question.

    Hi Sam,

    Welcome to the Gamers' Club Unlocked program! It typically only takes 2-3 business days for welcome packets to arrive by e-mail, so you should have received yours by now if you enrolled around Memorial Day.

    Had the VPN up and running for a couple months with no issues. Switched ISP's and the VPN stopped working.

    The only change in the networking was going from a modem/router combo to a separate modem and router. The new router is a Linksys E2000. I have all the proper ports opened. I am confident that DNS is properly configured.

    Nothing happens in the VPN logs when I try to connect, but I do get this in the system log:

    DB:3.02:L2tp Vpn Connection Not Working Under 10.6.3 xa

    Hi everyone.
    I need to connect to a VPN with L2TP/IPSec.
    The connection works fine if I boot into Bootcamp (win7).
    But if I boot into 10.6.3, it does not work.

    any idea what the problem could be.
    Settings are triple checked and copy pasted into their proper fields (like in win7). router settings are correct, otherwise it would not work in win7.
    So it is a problem with osx.

    The following is out of the ppp.log:

    Thu Apr 22 19:14:03 2010 : L2TP connecting to server 'vpn.xxx.com' (x.x.x.x)...

    Hi All,

    I'm working on troubleshooting Intermittent application access. probe was getting failed intermittently.

    Is it possible to run any script on ACE which will do the packet capture only if the probe failed to an application?

    Regards,

    Thiyagu

    DB:3.01:Script On Ace To Do A Packet Capture During Probe Failure 1c

    Thiyagu,

    The ACE was not designed to run captures( at least not at high level as a NAM for example) then the traces which we can take in the ACE does not capture neither probe traffic nor management traffc only load balancing traffic.

    TAC does not support customized scripts.

    If you need to check how the probes are behaving then you may need to run a simultaneous capture on the client PC and the server itself or if you have an ACE module then you can run a 10giga capture.

    Hi, I bought the two years of GCU about two weeks ago and have yet to receive the welcome packet in my inbox. Please advise on what I need to do in order to get it.

    DB:3.00:Never Received Welcome Packet For Joining Gcu - Best Buy: Unboxed 3k

    Hi Chirpal,

    Welcome to the My Best Buy Gamers' Club Unlocked program! It typically only takes 2-3 business days for welcome packets to arrive by e-mail from the date of enrollment, so it's a bit surprising you haven't received yours by now.

    I've sent you some information, so please make sure to check your private messages when you can. To check your PMs, simply sign into the forum and then click on the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

    am writing a client sever application where am copying files from a directory in the client to the sever;

    here is my pseudocode;

    1.am reading the file name
    send it as a packet;
    receive the packet;
    retrive the name and make the file

    2.read the bytes from the file
    send them as a packet
    receive the packet
    write the bytes;

    am wondering if there is a better way to do this.

    Hi,

    We have a switchports issue in this specific switch, wherein some switchports cannot be

    When trying to connect the following error message shows up:

    Unable to make connection, ORA-12637: Packet receive failed (Connection works only for a short time; upon new login attempt error message appears again)

    How can we solve this issue?

    For the Oracle Client NT machine, check in %ORACLE_HOME%/network/admin/sqlnet.ora to see if SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS) is set.

    If the Authentication is using the database username and passowrd rather than OS Authentication, comment out the above line from the file and try again

    It works

    Thanks jhony192!

    That works great.

    Just wanted to post a quick comment about deleting domains through RPC. Anybody whos trying to do that should be extremely careful. If accidentally skipped filter/filter node, i.e. submitted delid101/id/del without the filter between del and id. Plesk misread my request and started deleting all accounts one by one. I was able to stop it and minimize the damage but in general you should be very careful when working with deleting. I know it sounds obvious but I thought Id still post it.

    DB:2.99:Why Does Not The Radius Server Receive The Attribute [8] Packet ? 31

    Hi,

    This might help diagnosing the issue,

    debug ppp authen

    debug aaa authen

    debug aaa author

    debug radius

    term mon

    -aaa accounting delay-start...

    Above command means that until the end client has received an IP address, do not send the accounting packet to the accounting server. Once it has, include the IP address handed out, and send the accounting information to the Accounting server.

    DB:2.98:Rip Receive Disable az

    Jon is completely right for preventing rip updates to be installed into the routing table or using passive interface for not sending rip updates.

    If you want to completely block rip packets you have to use an ACLExample:

    access-list 101 deny udp any eq rip any eq rip
    access-list 101 permit any any

    DB:2.97:Problem In Java Network Programming ak

    Hi, there,
    It is the first time I post in this forum.
    I am now working on a project in which a java client GUI program communicates with a server program written in C++. I used TCP in the communication. The communication procedure is: client sends a packet to server to say " He, this is xxx", and server reply with a packet : "hello, xxx". In my problem, the server program receives the hello packet from client, and it does reply a welcome packet. But the client program can not receive the packet. In fact the packet has arrived at the client side. I know this because if I stop the server program, the client can get the packet sent from server. The problem is that the client program can not be informed that there is a packet ready to be read.

    I attach my client problem in the following, and I am very appreciate for your kind help.

    Thanks
    ping

    try
    {
    sock = new Socket("130.203.65.90", 6789);
    os = new PrintWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(sock.getOutputStream()));
    is = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(sock.getInputStream()));
    }
    catch
    .....

    try
    {

    String iString;
    String oString="hello, server, this is XXX";

    os.println(oString);
    os.flush();

    while ((iString = is.readLine()) != null)
    {
    System.out.println("Receive message from server: ");
    System.out.println(iString);
    }
    }
    catch (IOException e)
    {
    System.err.println("I/O failed");
    }

    DB:2.97:Problem In Java Network Programming ak

    if you use the method of readLine() , it will alway reading until get the character "\n"

    while( (s = instance.readLine() ) !=null ){ // go ahead if get the character "\n"

    //do something

    }

    so , you have two ways to solve the problem

    1 add the character "\n" to your server program
    2 try and use other method in your client,like read()

    Hey,

    i was using Wake on Lan since OS 10.5 Leopard for waking my Mac up with a Magic Packet. Since 10.6 this brilliant feature was removed and replaced by "wake on demand" wich lets your computer wake up every 2 hours for a few seconds (very ultra annoying if your mac is in the same room as your bed). This is at least how it SHOULD work.. of course it doesn't...

    Everytime i enable Wake on Demand my Mac Pro will wake up but will NOT go to sleep a few seconds later (as it is intended).

    Hi all, I have a problem with a PIX-535 IOS 7.2(2), when we try to use the packet tracer for ASDM or CLI it dont work. On console display "TRACER: NP failed tracing packet"

    DB:2.95:Tracer: Np Failed Tracing Packet 7a

    Briefly, here it is

    Packet-tracer fails to trace after about 800 packet traces. I ran a script which will execute packet-tracer command continuously. It is observed that after about 800 traces following error is seen.

    asa(config)# packet-tracer input inside tcp 10.60.1.100 1800 10.60.2.72 21

    asa(config)# : NP failed tracing packet

    asa(config)# sh ver

    Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.0(1)16

    Device Manager Version 5.2(2)

    It happens also for 7.2.2.

    Are you in multi-context ASA? If you are there is one more defect for packet tracer.

    i am using forms developer 6i Version 6.0.8.11.3 with 10G release 2 data base,
    whenever i try to connect through my application it let me connect and simultaneously when i connect through my sql plus, it does not let me connect and give me a message

What i understand it "It does not allow me to make more then one connection", becasue when i connect through my form builder it allow me to connect, and when i try to connect with my sql plus or from my application, it is not allowing me to connect. Last thing when i connect through my application only, it is not allowing me to run my report by opening a "CONNECT WINDOW" which is asking me for USERNAME, PASSWORD and CONNECT STRING. (I am calling my reports through my forms by using parameters)

    DB:2.95:Packet Receive Failed j3

    ORA-12637: Packet receive failed
    Cause: A process was unable to receive a packet from another process. Possible causes are:

    1. The other process was terminated.

    2. The machine on which the other process is running went down.

    3. Some other communications error occurred.
    Action: If the cause is not obvious, contact Oracle Customer Support.

    I suspect it has something to do with your network rather than Oracle configuration.

    Hi Amanda,

    Your exam was just mailed today, October 15th. You should allow approximately 1 week for your proctor to receive it.

    DB:2.93:The Router In Use May Not Support Ip Fragments 1x

    Problem Summary

    Roughly within the last 30 – 45 days I started to receive this message on my gaming consoles “The router in use may not support IP fragments” when running a connection test. In addition I noticed intermittent internet connectivity issues (latency and connection drops) on my laptops and other wifi connected devices. After a little research I found the IP fragments error message could be related to the MTU setting.

    Diagnostic Actions
    First things first I power cycled the modem and all connected devices (including a wifi extender which is just relaying the wifi signal)Verified the default Xfinity/Comcast MTU setting of 1500 by running a command prompt DOS session and running this command “netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces”.

    *Note: I ran the following tests using a wireless connection directly to the wireless router and a second time connected through the wifi extender with matching results

    Next I simply ran 5 – 7 Ping tests to Google.com using the command “Ping google.com”. The Ping test sent a packet size 32 bytes with 0% packet loss.Next from the same prompt I sent a Ping to google with a packet size of 1000 bytes using this command line “Ping google.com –f –l 1000” with 100% packet loss.After the test failed I reduced the packet size to match the default ping size using this command prompt line “Ping google.com –f –l 32” with again 100% packet loss

    Any help provided would be greatly appreciated!

    I don't have any answers, but I am seeing the same error in my system log. Now I'm wondering if it's related to a problem reported by the machine's user not long ago when he tried to connect remotely via ssh.

    Is it possible to print an error when you don't receive a package within a second and the program stops waiting for a package to receive but will do the next step in the program.
    Something like

    send packet
    wait for packet

    DB:2.92:Udp Datagram Package Receive Question pk

    well, the receive method blocks, but you can call setSoTimeout() before calling receive to set the timeout time. If you set it to a positive value, it'll only block that long and throw an exception when it times out, at which time you can catch the exception and do your thing.

    DB:2.91:Ppp - Pppoe Connection Failing xf

    Hi,

    My personal impression from what I see here is that your router tries to obtain its own IP address from ISP, and for some reason, ISP is unable to provide an IP address. After some time, your router gives up.

    Specifically, your router tries to negotiate its own IP address by sending out a CONFREQ with the IP set to 0.0.0.0. Normally, this would elicit a CONFNAK response from the ISP containing the suggested IP address, and your router would repeat the CONFREQ request now with the assigned IP address.

    However, in the debug you have provided, the initial CONFREQ has to be re-sent multiple times before a response arrives, and the response is a CONFREJ, totally dismissing your router's attempt at obtaining an IP address. It almost seems as if the ISP had troubles contacting its DHCP server or another mechanism to allocate an IP address to you, and after a timeout, ISP resorts to CONFREJ messages.

    To me, this seems to be an issue caused by your ISP, and I personally suggest going over this debug with them. Without either knowing what static IP address you need to use, or the ISP being able to provide you with a negotiated IP address, the link does not appear to be willing to come up.

    Best regards,Peter

    When I try to

    Any subsequent efforts to create NSS volumes fail (probably because the

    DB:2.90:Buffer Length For Udp sc

    Hello All,

    a quick one about dealing with UDP packets using:

    java.net.DatagramSocket
    java.net.DatagramPacket

    Got a DatagramSocket working and can send UDP to just fine, can receive and process the information. I am little confused about the best way to do this....

    In order to receive a packet you must construct a packet to populate

    Datagram Socket socket = new DatagramSocket(30000);
    byte[] buf = new byte[256]; //this is the issue, why do I have to specify the size before I have the packet?
    DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buf, buf.length);
    socket.receive(packet);do stuff with packet...

    What if I don't know in advance the size of the packets that will be sent to this socket (my case at the moment). Do I just construct a massive packet then truncate the result? It seems a little primitive to me, esp considering the packet header tells you the length of the packet?

    Anybody got a better idea?

    cheers

    matt

    DB:2.90:Buffer Length For Udp sc

    Hi,

    thanks for the reply. I do need to use UDP - the data is not critical - so a missed one here or there is no problem. I guess I just find it a bit wierd that the packet does tell you exactly the number of bytes in the payload and there is no way you can be a bit clever with this information.

    That's life I guess.

    cheers

    DB:2.90:Nat Config, What Is Potential Problem? 9p

    Hi every body.

    I was  performing the lab to change destination ip  using NAT  (  i used ip inside destination command),  but encountered a problem.

    My topology is as follows:

    server----------(f0/0)Nat router( f0/1)------------------ host.

    I took three routers(2691) and configured one as server ,and the other as host.  The last router  was configured as natrouter

    Serverconfig:

    f0/0

    199.199.199.1/24

    default route  199.199.199.2  (  NATrouter f0/0 int)

    Host config:

    f0/0

    200.200.200.1/24

    default route  200.200.200.2  ( nat router f0/1 int).

    Nat router config:

    f0/0

    ip address 199.199.199.2/24

    ip nat inside

    f0/1

    ip address 200.200.200.2/24

    ip nat outside

    access-list 10 permit 199.199.199.10 0.0.0.0

    ip nat pool zee 199.199.199.1 199.199.199.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

    ip nat inside destination list 10 pool zee

    =============================================

    Expected outcome:

    I was hoping  when i issued the ping command on host  " ping 199.199.199.10  , host  will forward it to nat router using its default route.

    When nat router receives the ping packet on its f0/1 ( nat outside)  int,  it will perform nat and  will change the destination ip 199.199.199.10   to 199.199.199.1,  next nat router will perform routing look-up,  and forward the packet out of f0/0 int .

    Server will receive the packet and processes  and  will send the ping reply to 200.200.200.1 ( host)

    server  sends the packet to default gateway( nat router).

    Nat router receives the packet on its f0/0 ( ip inside nat ),with source ip 199.199.199.1 destip 200.200.200.1

    Nat router first perform the routing table look-up and then change the src ip 199.199.199.1  to 199.199.199.10  using nat table.

    Nat router then forwards the packet out of its f0/1 (outside nat)  to host.

    ===========================================================================

    Actual result:

    When i issued ping 199.199.199.10 on host,  host is not receiving any ping reply.

    I used debug ip packet  on natrouter  which verifies  that  it receives the packet  but for some reason   does not perform nat  and does not forward the packet out of f0/0 int. Nat router  generates messages   " encapsulation failed"

    I attached the file  if any one wants to look at configuration.

    Thanks and have a great week.

    Hi All

    I am trying to  get up an point to point VPN between  a Cisco DPC3925 and a netscreen 5GT Firewall

    I have configured up everything as i think it should, i belive the phase one and phase two are both configured ok, if i change the phase one settings to something different then i will get a different error

    on the cisco I am using Auto Ike, with a shared key and PFS - both phase one and phase two are set  the same at both ends cisco / netscreen

    I'm pretty savy with the netscreen so I can pretty much pull out what ever data is needed, not so much with the cisco as the config options seem quite limited

    When I try to connect, the VPN log on the CISCO shows the below, but on the netscreen it thinks that phase one Negotiations are complete (in logs etc)

    The netscreen seems to be much more configurable than the CISCO, so i guess i need to change something on that but im not sure what

    I know I haven't provdided much info on my config, but I was hoping someone may be able to give me abit more of an idea of what the cisco is expecting to receive ftom the netscreen that its not getting from the logs, I have chaged the external IP's in this log, the log goes from the bottom up as thats how the cisco dumps it

    DB:2.89:Reading N Bytes From Datagramsocket Without Loosing The Rest Of The Packet 9m

    Sending Side:
    -----------------
    I want to send a packet in which I concatinate the size of y data as a header and the data as a trailer. My packet before I send is:
    | n [4 bytes] | + | data [n bytes] |
    for instance If I want to send "java" then my packet look like ['4','j','a','v','a']
    I send it via

    socket.send (packet)Receiver side
    ------------------
    On the receiver side I would like to read the first 4 bytes, get the size of the data and then read the rest of the packet:

    packet = new DatagramPacket(new byte[4], 4);
    socket.receive (packet);

    int size = byteArraytoInt (packet .getData());

    packet = new DatagramPacket(new byte[size ], size);
    socket.receive (packet);My problem
    ----------------
    The function "socket.receive (packet)" receives the first packet and thus will discard the rest of my first packet. So the second time I perform a receive I will be actually reading the next packet and not the data trailer of the first packet.

    Any solutions!!!!! Please. I am stuck for days on this :(
    Will using DatagramChanel solve the problem!?!?

    DB:2.88:Mpls - Nonadjacent Neighbor Problem 77

    I cannot get LDP neighbors to pass packets sourcing from a VRF when there is a layer three hop between them (The layer3 hop supports packet switching). I can ping from loopback to loopback (BGP update sources) and BGP is propagating the VRF routes properly. Connectivity in the global routing table is established by creating static routes on both routers that point to each other's subnets via the layer three hop in the middle. When I "debug ip packet", I receive "MPLS encapsulation failed". Also, packets are not leaving the interface (verified with a packet snfifer). Creating a targeted LDP session between neighbors successfully created a neighbor state, but packets are still not passing. Thanks.

    DB:2.88:Mpls - Nonadjacent Neighbor Problem 77

    Yes, I knew that 12.0S did not support the 2800 and 3800s. I was just wondering if there were any plans to add support for this to, say, 12.3T for example. ;)

    Anyway, what I'm trying to get done is relatively simple. I need to be able to provision MPLS VPNs across a non-MPLS backbone. A simple workaround is to just build GRE tunnels and run MPLS across them, but I was hoping for a solution that wouldn't become a configuration nightmare if we get more than a couple of sites with the same VPN. Odds are it won't end up being necessary to configure more than perhaps 3 sites with the same VPN, so I'll likely just end up doing this until (if) we transition to a full MPLS backbone.

    If you have any other suggestions, feel free to chime in.

    Thanks,

    Brad

I am very greatful for that because the network settings on Nokia E5-00 are the most complkex I ever came across on any mobile phone.

    However it does not work to full extent. E.g. I can not login to Skype and when I enter the Web browser I get the fault message "Packet Datacolon; Authorisation failed".

    Basicly what it sais in the manual is to set Cellular Data to ON and set APN to mobiledata. I can not find the menues in the Nokia.

    It sems that Telestial is just a reseller for www.ekit.com , anyone got experience for correctly setting up a Nokia E5-00?

    Go to Menu Ctrl. panel Settings Connection Destinations Internet - check whether ekit APN is Priority 1 or 2. If it is not visible look in "Uncategorised" and if so tap "Options" Organise (move to other destination) which you want to be Internet.

    Launch Browser Options scroll down to Settings General Access point - temporarily change to "Always ask" which will give you further opportunity to redefine chosen APN.

    - start/stop VPN Service
    - switch of Firewall completely on Mac Server

    I'm really stucked here. Especially it was working before and with no reason - it just stopped. First thought might be iOS 4.2 update, but then it should still work in my iMac and Macbook but it doesn't.

    I've googled a lot and searched all threads about this here and tried suggestions but none of them are working.

    Hope anybody can help out.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    DB:2.88:L2tp Vpn Server Stopped Working Suddenly?? cs

    I have a similar problem with my VPN server on an Xserve running 10.6.5 with a DIR-655 router. Users try to connect and get no response from the server. Stopping and restarting the VPN service fixes the problem and allows users to login again. This seems to happen randomly. Looking for a solution to solve this problem or for ideas on where to look for issues.

    Hi,

    Yes, this type of issue is probably best handled by a TAC case as it can get fairly complex when root causing the problem. The error message itself is somewhat misleading in the sense that it's really not a router resources issue. The most common scenario where you'd run into this is that, there is an inconsistency in the prefix length between the nhrp cache entry and what's in the routing table during an nhrp cache update. There have been some known IOS issues in this area, eg.,

    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetailsbugId=CSCdt23105

    In any event, we'd really need to get the nhrp show/debug output when this occurs to see what's going on. Depending on whether you are running dmvpn phase 2 or phase 3, you may need to get them from the source spoke, hub, as well as the destination spoke routers. Again, this is probably best addressed by a TAC case.

    Thanks,

    Wen

    Hello all,

    I have a slow down problem? I have a GroupWise system that has been working

    fine for ever almost? Recently, it has been slowing down to a crawl about

    ever 7 days? None of the processes are interrupted, but, they are extremely

    slow until the server is restarted? The Server is an IBM eServer series ...

    HELP!

    I\'ve checked the statistics that I could think of, Cache memory, CPU

    Utilization, Dirty Cache Buffers, Disk Space, LAN Throughput .... none seem

    to be a problem? Just about the only think that I\'ve noticed is a high

    Packet Error Count on the LAN card which, even that, compared to the other

    DB:2.87:Thread: Groupwise 7.X Slow Down 9s

    Tim,

    I have heard numerous times from Novell that B57/Q57 NICs are a problem and have experienced to some extent the problems myself. However, even though I understand that iSCSI and certain NICs will impact the performance, this is not a new installation and I have a benchmark of what the current hardware configuration can do! In fact, each time I restart the server, I gain a 10 fold performance increase?

    I have updated the B57 drivers to the latest that Broadcomm has and although I have no problem in changing the NICs I can\'t help but to think there is another issue lurking about? Can you offer any thoughts on how to narrow down the bottleneck and identify the source?

    We originally thought it was a process like backup that was causing the slowdown, others have suggested a scheduled GroupWise maintenance task, but it\'s neither one of those?

    Thanks,

    Soroush

    What Scheduled events?

    Do you have 25% plus of the volume free

    Do you purge the volume - or have PI set?

    On the subject of iSCSI, have a look at this doc,

    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...case_study.pdf

    iSCSI is a single threaded process and does suffer very badly from

    having B57/Q57 LAN cards.

    Hi Satya,

    Yes, this switch is faulty. Whenever a device fails POST (Power On Self Test), it is an indication of hardware failure, and the device should be replaced.

    DB:2.86:How Can I Read A Ethernet Packet 9c

    I need to receive a packet from a Ethernet connection. I don't know which java class can support this project. My main point is to read the packet from the Ethernet connection in Java.
    So later read the source addres that is stored in byte 27-31 from the packet.

    Thank you

    DB:2.86:How Can I Read A Ethernet Packet 9c

    You can't read an Ethernet packet directly from java. You can either read a TCP/IP packet (either an IP packet or UDP packet, but not ICMP) in Java, or you can use JNI to program something native to read directly from the network interface card (also called snooping)

    Hi All,I just installed OSX Lion Server and configured my VPN with the default settings. I am doing my inital testing of the server on my internal network (so there should be no firewall/port forwarding issues. It seems that the server is not responding. I believe that I already have that set up and working. I have already set up my machine for Web Services, Open Directory, DNS, DHCP, Mail, and Software Update. This is one of the final issues I am having. Any help/advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello everyone,

    while I'm connected to the filer, I see the following messages:

    Wed Mar 7 10:20:28 CET [openssh.versionExchange.Fail:Error]: Did not receive identification string from [IP_ADDRESS].

    Wed Mar 7 10:20:30 CET [openssh.dispatch.protocol:warning]: SSH dispatch failed from address [IP_ADDRESS], type 1, packet 5.

    Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

    Thank you in advance,

    kind regards

    DB:2.86:Openssh Errors And Warnings dz

    Changing the ServerAliveInterval was exactly the fix for the problem I was running into, but my warnings were a little different from the original poster:

    Wed Jul 31 15:06:38 PDT [filernamepenssh.dispatch.protocol:warning]: SSH dispatch failed from address [IP address], type 80, packet 191.

    I log into a system that cuts off sessions after a short amount of time, so I had ServerAliveInterval set to 5 minutes on my Mac. Unfortunately, this caused the NetApp to throw a warning on the console every 5 minutes when I was logged in. I increased the interval and the console is *much* cleaner now. Thanks!

    Create a timer loop so that after 300 ms, if a valid receive packet hasn't been received, BeginConnect or BeginSend will be called again. After 10 failed attempts, it will be considerered a Timeout.
    Upon valid packet being received, BeginSend shouldbe invoked immediately witha new message (byte array)

    Does my DESIGN look OK? Am I thinking about this correctly? Thank you! greg.

    I already see problems with my design. I will redesign and resubmit with code also. -greg
