    Hello fellas !

    Hi there bckrispi,

    it seems indeed that my server is internally changing my IP address, it translates it from ###.###.###.### to somename. and it takes the somename from a mapping inside a HOSTS file.

    When the JSP page first loads, and I right click the page and go to properties, the IP address appears, bur When I hit the Submit Button, and return to the page, and go check the properties this time, the IP is changed to the name inside the corresponding mapping of the HOSTS file.

    Any suggestion on how could I avoid this server name change from happening?

    Thank you very Much !
    You guys do a fantastic job everyday !

    God Bless!

    DB:3.53:How Does The Request Scope Work In The Jsf? as

    What you really want is something between request scope and session scope. Oracle ADF Faces (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/index.html) provides such a beast known as "Process Scope" ( http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/devguide/communicatingBetweenPages.html).

    The only alternative I know of is a carefully crafted session-scope managed bean. This bean would have a "reset()" method on it that clears its state. You'd put an ActionListener on the bean that calls "reset()". You'd register that ActionListener with all entry points into the set of pages that are sharing the wanna-be-process-scope managed bean.

    There is no known limitation of the panel items. The actionListener should work fine even inside PanelItems.

    Just curious to know as to why was the PartialSubmit = false in the commandButton. Try turning that to true in the original JSFF.

    you can put a bean in the request scope and use it in a forwarded page.

    But the request scope only lasts for 1 browser request. That next page stuff, if that's showing the next page to the user and then that check comes after the user clicks a link or submits a form, then that is a new request, so the old data is gone. If you need it to last across multiple requests, use session, not request.

    That is not a requirement to push a bean in scope.

    Just create the bean and put it in the application scope by ServletContext#setAttribute().

    DB:3.31:Re: Cannot Find A Way To Access Facescontext During Web App Initialization kp

    I see, you've managed properties.

    A better solution might be to define those values in a propertiesfile or another kind of a configuration file in the classpath which is accessible by the backing bean as well as the ServletContextListener.

    Another solution is be to define a PhaseListener which does the task and sets a toggle in the application scope so that it should skip the task in the subsequent requests, but that is somewhat cumbersome.

    String colValue = "email@domain.com";

    Above code gives an exception :

    Exception :
    Cannot find any information on property '' in a bean of type 'grid.Customer'

    But this works :

    jsp:useBean id="customer" class="grid.Customer" scope="page"/
    %
    String colName = "email";
    String colValue = "email@domain.com";
    customer.setEmail(colValue);

    %

    Can somebody explain this ? I really need to use the first approach where I don't know the property name and values. I will be getting those from database and need to set the property in a bean after reading the resultset.

    DB:3.31:Setproperty In Bean fa

    I think you need to change to:

    jsp:setProperty name="customer" property="email" value="%=colValue%" /

    Java Bean's attribute name should be non-capitalized one.

    why you want to use :

    jsp:setProperty name="customer" property="%=colName%" value="%=colValue%" /
    to evaluate java bean's property name at runtime? It should be a fixed String. Maybe jsp:setProperty ... syntax does not support evaluating property's name at run time. That's why at first it could not get the right value of your expression.

    I have seen similar behavior when nested collections are used to populate nested datatables and the bean had a scope of request. Outside those nested cases, I did not experience the behavior you are describing with request bean. I think it is a bug. Use session scope as a workaround. Unfortunately you will need to manually remove from session scope in case needed for performance reasons, ...etc

    ThanksOne simple way to accomplish what you want is to make sure your page references a request scope bean (via a "binding" or "value" expression, for example), and then put the call to the session-scoped bean's method in the constructor of the request scope bean. That way, it will get invoked on each request.

    DB:3.25:Help - Problem Populating Beans 79

    I'm defining a bean in a JSP page with session scope and using the jsp:setProperty with property="*" tag to populate it. I'm passing the bean to a "dispatcher" page, which does a forward to a servlet which in turn is forwarding the request to another JSP page.

    This works, but only when I define the bean with "request" scope. I would prefer to define it with "session" scope.

    any ideas?

    DB:3.25:Help - Problem Populating Beans 79

    Thanks - I was hoping it was you that answered this!uh oh. I think I'm spending too much time on this forum ;-)
    Its always nice to be appreciated. Thanks.

    I was hoping to use the same form when data is being
    filled out for the first time AND when I create the
    bean on the back end, populate it with data from the
    database, and send it to the page for revision.

    Based upon your response, I can't do that - can I?I think so.
    I still haven't seen any of your code, so this is still guess work on my part ;-)

    The setProperty tag will run, but it only sets properties if they are present in the request parameters.
    If the parameters are not present, or have a value of empty string, the setProperty for that property is not called.
    So as long as your "loading" page doesn't send parameters which will modify the bean attributes, you're in the clear.

    You can find all the gory details and rules about it here:

    DB:3.25:Call Session Scope Bean Setter From A Request Scope Bean ? xm

    Is it possible to call a session scope bean setter method from within a request scope bean method? If so, how? What are the steps?

    If not, what is the preferred way to move data from within a request scope bean to a session scope bean? (I am working with the binding container in the request scope bean, but want to save some data to a session scope bean. As I understand it, the session scope bean does not have access to the binding container.)

    thanks, Ken

    DB:3.25:Call Session Scope Bean Setter From A Request Scope Bean ? xm

    Say the name of your session-scoped bean is foo. Put #{foo} for the value. Make sure that your request-scoped bean has a getter and setter for the managed property (of the type of your session-scoped bean)

    1. I have a JavaBean, which is named as ThreadBean with lots of properties. The ThreadBean is in a package.

    managed-bean
    managed-bean-namemyBean/managed-bean-name
    managed-bean-classvoip.myPackage.myBeanClass/managed-bean-class
    managed-bean-scopesession/managed-bean-scope

    /managed-property
    /managed-bean

    when using the URL http://www.mydomain.com/myPage.jsf?myId=1

    I receive a scope cycle error.

    How do I solve this problem without using a request scoped bean?

    DB:3.22:Passing Url Paramters 7k

    The fundamental issue here is that a managed beans property are only initialized once; so that if JSF did allow you to do what you are trying to do, you wouldn't get the result you wanted anyways.

    First, why are you opposed to request scoped beans? You should prefer request scope beans over session scope beans for performance reasons.

    Second, you can access the request parameters directly via the ExternalContext, available from the FacesContext.

    DB:3.22:Accessing Property Of One Managed Bean To Another In Request Scope js

    Use RequestMap instead of SessionMap.

    Having multiple and independent managed beans in the request scope for 1 request and the need to access the other bean is somewhat odd design however. You may need to rethink about it. For example, add one of the beans as property of the other bean.

    yes, request scoped bean is recreated on every request. Thats why you should store the uploaded files in some session scoped bean, db or something else from listener.

    I am beginning to use JSF, having used JSPs for a short while. I cant seem to find the equivalent of storing/retrieving objects in the request session. E.g. I log in to the app which displays a menu page. An option to display a customer list has a method action on the Customer class (managed bean, request scope), but I want to access attributes on the User class (managed bean, session scope) to determine what customers to retrieve. Within the Customer action method, how do I access the User object?

    Hi..

    Can anybody plz help me..

    I already deploy the new JPDK Jan 2003.

    It's works fine in the Portal.

    Just, i don't understand, where they put the java files(bean) related?

    For example..the Lottery (lotto.jsp)
    it called this bean..
    "jsp:usebean id = "picker" class = "oracle.portal.sample.devguide.lottery.LottoPicker" scope = "page" /"

    but, when i searched in the Server, i cannot find this LottoPicker.java.....

    Pls help me, it is urgent..

    DB:3.14:Confuse..Where Are The Java Files(Bean) Related To Jsp In Portal?? j7

    Hi,

    All the bean files are in samplev2.jar at %OC4J_HOME%/j2ee/home/applications/jpdk/jpdk/WEB-INF/lib. If you extract the zip you will see all the class files for samples in JPDK.

    btw, as per J2EE container specification, the default location for any java class file (i.e. '.class' files) is WEB-INF/lib (packaged as a jar) or inside WEB-INF/classes as individial class files (with their complete package structure)

    DB:3.13:Urgent Help On Logic:Iterate mk

    Dear all,

    I have a problem on logic:iterate and structs. Suppose I have EmployeeListAction to get the employees data as below :-

    employees = EmployeeData.getEmployees(getDataSource(request));
    request.setAttribute("employees", employees);

    In the EmployeeData file, sample codes are as below :-

    Employee employee = null;
    ArrayList employees = new ArrayList();

    employee = new Employee();

    employee.setName(firstname);
    employee.setEmail(Email);
    employee.setTimezone(Time_zone);

    employees.add(employee);

    In JSP, the way to call the employees data in the logic:iterate tag is as below :-

    logic:iterate id="employee" name="employees" indexId="index" scope="request" property="com.convenxia.EmployeeListAction"
    bean:message...
    /logic:iterate

    But it return errors which is as below :-
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Cannot find bean employees in scope session

    I have tried :-
    logic:iterate id="employee" name="employees" indexId="index" scope="request" or
    logic:iterate id="employee" name="employees" indexId="index" scope="request" type="com.convenxia.Employee"

    But it still return errors which is as below :-
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Cannot find bean employees in scope session

    How to resolve it ?
    Please help me as soon as possible.

    Thank you.

    Cheers,
    yymae

    DB:3.13:Urgent Help On Logic:Iterate mk

    It look like you did not define or use bean.

    In program you do: request.setAttr || request.getSession().setAttr
    In jsp you then pick it up first:
    jsp:useBean id="employees" class="...." scope=[request || session] (depends where you put it) /

    or for struts:

    bean:define id="employees" scope="..[as above] toScope=[where you want to pick it up in iterate]"
    type="..." /

    then you should be able to use it safely in iterate tag.

    Make sure that you have the beans (classes) placed in the correct class path. These paths should work:

    1)[docroot]/WEB-INF/classes
    2)[docroot]/servlets

    The 1st path is what you really should be using for JSP. If this directory does not exist then create it, and put your beans in it.

    /managed-beanIn SessionBean1 I keep a flag indicating the login status of the user (logged/not logged) and some user information (for now, the user name).

    If I ran the application with JSF 1.2_04 all is OK: SessionBean1 (wich extends AbstractSessionBean) is initialized only once.

    If I switch to JSF 1.2_07 it does'nt work! SessionBean1 is re-initialized for each request.

    So, can anyone help me to understand this issue?
    Is this a problem of my code?
    Is a JSF 1.2_07 issue?
    Or an com.sun.rave.* issue?
    Or any else?

    Thank you very very much

    I'm trying to put my beans in view scope using

    managed-bean

    managed-bean-namefoo/managed-bean-name

    managed-bean-classfoo.bar/managed-bean-class

    managed-bean-scopeview/managed-bean-scope

    /managed-bean

    But the bean act as it's in request scope. No state is saved. Otherwise, it works fine if I use @KeepAlive.

    RF 3.3.3 doesn't work with managed-bean-scopeview/managed-bean-scope ?

    I'm using RF 3.3.3, Mojarra 2.1.1, Facelets 1.1.15

    Thanks in advance,

    please check out what the jsf-impl version do you depend.

    If it's not jsf2.0, please get to know that there is only keepAlive exists.

    Additonally, I strongly recommend you to use annotation instead of configuration in xml.

    DB:3.09:Must Command Link Parameter Variable Session Scope?? 1c

    I add a EJB Session Bean Method to my page which returns an array:

    public Province[] getProvinces();

    When you place the Session Bean to the page, it automatically creates a REQUEST SCOPE VARIABLE called "provinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean" in the type of Province array. And it automatically creates a Data Table to display the results.

    Up to this point every thing's cool!! I can call the method properly, get the results and display without any problem.

    However when I try to create a COMMAND LINK to one of the columns of the TABLE (e.g. Province has a NAME column) I have a problem:

    **************
    h:commandLink styleClass="commandLink" id="lnkName" action="#{pc_ProvinceManagement.doLnkNameAction}"
    h:outputText id="otxName" value="#{varprovinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean.name}" styleClass="outputText"
    /h:outputText
    f:param name="provinceId" value="#varprovinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean.id}"/f:param
    /h:commandLink
    ******************

    The problem is that this "provinceRemoteGetProvincesResultBean" is REQUEST scope and Command Link does not work with REQUEST Scope variables!!!

    I had similar examples before, when I used the command link with a REQUEST SCOPE variable, it didn't work. When I use it with a SESSION Scope variable it works.

    In this particular case, I cannot make the Province[] a SESSION SCOPE variable, because it's not a class!!! Therefore I need to create a new class containing a Province[] and make that class a SESSION SCOPE variable, which makes things quite complicated!!

    IS IT TRUE THAT COMMAND LINK PARAMETERS MUST BE SESSION SCOPE?????

    DB:3.09:Must Command Link Parameter Variable Session Scope?? 1c

    I need calarifications on following points:-

    1) Is managed bean with backing bean scope is similar to bean with request scope? Its just that backing bean scope bean is used specificaly for adf regions(jsff)?

    2) I am using dynamic regions for our adf application.In an single bounded task flow I have two different regions(jsff). I am using single managed bean with scope backing bean. Is it a right approuch , or should I use two differnt beans with scope backing bean. Or should I use single bean with pageFlow as scope?

    DB:3.09:Setting Prefilled Bean In Facescontext ff

    Hello.
    Im trying to set, in the FacesContext, a prefilled POJO Bean who has been filled with values by a controller class.

    Im searching for the equivalent of VariableResolver but for setting not getting.
    It would bee very nice if the scope is not important but the name of the bean. Meaning, if a bean with scoped request is called "mybean" i can just set VariableSetter.setBean("mybean", bean ) and this would find the managed bean with scope request and set it.

    I have seen many atempts on using requestmap and others, but none reported working. Has anyone succeded doing this. I really hope so....

    Help is appreciated

    DB:3.08:Managed-Bean Scope f8

    Hi,

    I wonder what is the meaning of the scope for a managed-bean in the config file.
    If I have a bean with request scope, it nevertheless is able to store state between two requests.
    If I log this.toString() in a property getter of my been I see that indeed each request uses the same instance of the bean class.

    Where is the error in my thinking? Is the scope meaning different from the scope attribute of a use-bean-Tag in a JSP?

    Michael

    DB:3.08:Managed-Bean Scope f8

    No, I was wrong.
    The effect occurred because I after changing the scope from session to request, I reloaded the web-app in Tomcat and Tomcat maintained the session.
    When I restart Tomcat or stop the web-app, delete the persistent session and start the web-app , the scope changes as expected.

    A little strange, though.

    DB:3.07:Request Level Beans - Access From Another Request Level Bean kd

    Hi,
    I have a jsf page with a datatable in it, that is bound to a list which resides in a request level backing bean A.
    I also have another textbox which is bound to another request level bean B property. Next to this box i have a commandButton.
    When I hit the button, A.update action is called. In A.update() i want to access B's property that is bound by the inputText above. It is not getting set at all, and remains null. If i change the bean to session, it does work. But I have 40 such search beans, and its a high volume app, I cannot store those 40 beans in every user session.

    Any idea how i can accomplish this using request scope?

    Thanks,
    Ayan

    DB:3.07:Request Level Beans - Access From Another Request Level Bean kd

    That will indeed not work as it is too early in the JSF lifecycle to access another beans and its properties, they might not be created and set yet.

    Anyway, apparently my suggestion did work in your case?

    public void aMethod() {
    FacesContext facesCtx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExternalContext externalCtx = facesCtx.getExternalContext();
    Map scope = externalCtx.getSessionMap();

    //myBean is always null????
    MyBean myBean =
    (MyBean)scope.get("myBean");
    }I am quite not sure why it always return null. Any hints? Thanks

    DB:3.07:Cannot Retrieve Session Map Bean 9s

    Hi Navaneeth,

    Tried this as well but it still returns null. I am thinking that there could be some mistake in my use case.

    Well, this is a Bounded Task Flow and I use a Method-Call as the default activity. The method call
    access the managed bean that I set in my config file. That is what's my method above is doing.

    But I am not sure why that bean wasn't instantiated? Is there some way to eagerly preload managed bean?

    I tried setting another view activity as the default activity in the same BTF. That view activity has an output text
    that reads my session scoped bean and I notice that it thus calls my bean constructor.

    Could this be the reason?

    I am thinking right now that the adf framework wont instantiate beans unless they are called from view activities.

    Thanks

    DB:3.07:Faces Managed Bean - Session Scope Or Request Scope??? xj

    Hi to all,

    I have been developing jsf for around 3 months. There are 2 project that i involved in.

    And 1 of the project used session scope for most of the bean, while another 1 used request scope.

    I found that using session scope do help developer to reduce coding effort compared to request scope bean. But i personally strongly feel that using session scope is not appropriate cause it will add oevrhead to the server.

    While using request scope, developer used more efffort on coding because bean value is loss after request is been processed. Developers need to explicitly used hidden fields or other way to keep track of the bean value.

    So my question is should we used request scope or session scope for page / managed bean??? And Why??

    And What scope are u using for ur bean.

    thanks in advance..

    Hi nishalex,

    1. Since you don't want session, then
    you can do this: (pass the parameter using a query string)

    String schURL ="/jsp/index.jsp?displayPage=disp.jsp" ;
    schURL +="?fname=John" ;
    schURL +="lname=Smith" ;
    schURL +="address=Home" ;
    RequestDispatcher rs = req.getRequestDispatcher(schURL);
    rs.forward(req,res);

    2. in your disp.jsp

    n jsp file

    %
    // get the data from the servlet
    String fname= request.getParameter("fname");
    String lname= request.getParameter("lname");
    String address= request.getParameter("address");
    %

    --Paul.

    In the conventional JSF and from the JSF specification, a bound component (for example, an org.richfaces.component.html.HtmlTabPanel instance which is bound to some rich:tabPanel should be in the request scope).
    In Seam, I wonder where it can be:
    - Stateless scope: I don't think it can be here because if I refer to that component multiple times on a page then it's wrong.
    - Event scope: of course because Seam's event scope = servlet request scope
    - Page scope: this component is stuck on the JSF component tree where all other components on that page are. Even if I re-render a part of the page, the JSF component tree's structure is unchanged (unless I use c:if in my page), so everything will be fine.
    - Conversation scope: if I have 2 Firefox tab with different conversation id, it's fine. If these 2 tabs have the same conversation id and are displaying the same JSF page (can it happen? I think yes), then there'll be problems.
    Could any body please confirm if I'm right or wrong?
    The reason for my question is: in JSF I cannot inject a shorter-lifetime bean to a longer-lifetime bean. So if my backing bean is session-scoped, the only way for me to access a bound component is using
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().getExpressionFactory()
    .createValueExpression(...).getValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance())

    ArrayList list = cdao.loadData();

    request.setAttribute("list", list);

    return mapping.findForward("listContactOk");

    DB:3.06:Bean Problem cx

    Hi,there:
    I type jsp:useBean id="bean" scope="session" class="TestBean"/ in test.jsp
    I found if I access test.jsp from the same browser window(refresh it), the web server uses the same bean instance.At the same time,I open a new browser window and access test.jsp within it,but the web server creates a new bean instance.
    so according to the above,the scope of the bean is "request",but I declare the scope is "session".It seems the "session" scope equels the "request" even though I turn on "cookie" on computer,why?
    Thank you!

    DB:3.06:Bean Problem cx

    The issue is more the interpretation of the word "session".
    It tends to vary between browsers. For example, opening a new IE window using Ctrl-N uses the same session whereas opening it through the start menu uses a new session (at least this used to be the case). NN did something else as well if I recall...
    A session may be viewed as "the bit between opening and closing your browser".
    You're right that it comes down to the cookies (if your Servlet container uses them) - they're usually temporary cookies and may only be visible to the instance of the browser that created them.

    However, it's not request scope that you're experiencing as otherwise it would create a new bean instance every time that the page was refreshed (ie, for every page request).

    Hope this helps.

    I have some strange error and after spending some time fixing it, cannot find a solution.

    Here is an error: *[ServletException in:/AnnuityCodes-body.jsp] gov.nyc.fisa.wbas.view.WelfareColView'*

    That errror get displayed right after I click a "menu" link to open the page representing by AnnuityCodes-body.jsp.

    I can try to explain what I'm doing:

    I have an action class that forwards to that jsp.

    Here is a fragment in action class:
    AnnuityColView cView = new AnnuityColView();
    AnnuityBO bo = new AnnuityBO();
    cView = bo.searchAnnuity();//returns AnnuityColView object
    session.setAttribute("sCols",cView);I have the following bean declaration in jsp:

    jsp:useBean id="errorList" class="gov.nyc.fisa.wbas.view.AnnuityReportView" scope="request"/I do not have any references to : WelfareColView object. I checked it a few times

    I also have another jsp that has following bean declarations:

    jsp:useBean id="menu" class="gov.nyc.fisa.wbas.navigation.Menu" scope="session"/
    jsp:useBean id="wbasPropsForm" class="gov.nyc.fisa.wbas.form.WelfareCodesPropsForm" scope="request"/

    jsp:useBean id="errorList" class="gov.nyc.fisa.wbas.view.WelfareReportView" scope="request"/Another action class forwards to the jsp that has the above fragment.

    I''m trying to figure out what's wrong, and have no idea so far.

    Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

    you need not be having any refrence to the class that shows error.
    But the classes that you have used must be having some kind of refrences.
    I cant say the real error. If the package is a hird party one then you must be missing some parameters.

    Hello everyone,
    I'm new to struts, please be patient with me!!

    I have a series of JSP pages with forms, when I submit a form, I store the contents to the database take the user to the next page, if its an update action, I need to populate the forms on load.

    The storing part populating parts are working fine (using ActionForm) BUT the page transitions are not working. I mean, after storing to the database I send a "success" message my next page is not getting loaded. I'm geting this error "Cannot find bean under name projectOverviewForm" (2nd form name).

    Here's the code snippet...

    struts-config.xml:

    /action-mappingsOn searching on the web, I heard this error mostly occurs due to html:select but I'm not using it in my JSP.

    DB:3.04:Cannot Find Bean Under Name.. ff

    Exception: Cannot find bean under name ...

    Probable Cause: This is usually seen in association with a problematic Struts HTML SELECT custom tag. The Struts html:select tag behaves differently depending whether one or both of the name and property attributes is specified for its encompassed html:options tags. If the name attribute is specified, whether or not if the property attribute is specified, then a bean matching the specified name will be expected in some scope (such as page, request, session, or application). If the matching bean is not found in any available scope, the error above will be seen.

    There are two ways to address this. The first approach is to put a bean in one of the scopes so that the html:options might be associated with it. The second approach is to not specify the name attribute and instead use only the property attribute.

    Change your Frombean scope from "Request" to "Session", then it works.

    DB:3.03:Why Does The Validation Phase Call The Managed Bean Getters? 8p

    I've read through the spec and can't find the answer, and it doesn't make sense. You are validating the data in the JSF tree, so why would you care what the managed bean has?

    Here's my problem. I implemented my managed bean as a self-populating bean. I initialize all fields by calling a DAO bean inside the constructor. I get an ID parameter from the request that I pass to the DAO. And the scope for my bean is request, which is the key here.

    So when I get a new request (with the parameter I expect), everything works fine. Then the user can modify the fields and save. But here comes the problem. Since I'm in request scope, a new bean is instantiated when they save, and since now there's no ID in the request, I get an empty bean. That's still OK, but then the process validation phase hits and it starts calling all my getters. For simple String fields it's fine, but for list boxes it's looking for an array of SelectItem objects, and it has to be of the same size, or I get a validation error.

    So is there any way to get around this? Of course I could save the ID, and repopulate the bean from the DB, but the second hit would be for no reason. Using immediate is not an option, as I do want to validate, I just don't want validation to call my managed bean getters. Makes no sense to me why validation would call getters, especially in request scope.

    DB:3.03:Why Does The Validation Phase Call The Managed Bean Getters? 8p

    Yes, at the very least have the option of not evaluating again. If working with a request scoped bean, and you have an expensive query to populate the bean, you don't want to take a double DB hit.

    Hello

    I have a question about synchronization of methods in ADF managed beans, Backning bean and page flow scope.

    So methods inside those beans do they need synchronize?

    eg - For JSF
    Request scope - not
    Session Scope - sometimes needed
    Application -need

    ~deshan

    DB:3.03:Synchronization In Adf Managed Bean s3

    You can check the sync.. in following way.

    1. create a backing bean.
    2. create a page.
    3. create a control for example af:outputText in page.
    4. create a binding for that control in backing bean.
    5. in the set method write the following code.
    for(int i=0;i10;i++){
    Thread.sleep(1000);
    this.outputText.setValue("Sync Test="+(i+1));
    }
    6. open 1+ pages in browser at a time and check the synchronization.

    you know what the output should be....if the beans are synchronized.

    1. There are some scopes when a request is being processed:
    application, session, request, page. Each of them has its own lifecycle, but I don't think this is the best place to write more about it - there are a lot of sources on the net.

    2. I'm not sure... I've just read carefully definition of the useBean tag and I've found out that it shouldn't been caused by situation when the bean isn't created earlier. That's because useBean should create new instance of a bean when it doesn't find it in given scope.
    On the other hand, generated code:
    fxFormBean = (fxmatcher.FxFormBean)request.getAttribute("fxFormBean");doesn't checks existance of the object in the request scope.
    Are you sure the line above was generated from:
    jsp:useBean id="fxFormBean" class="fxmatcher.FxFormBean" scope="request"/If you can, post here a bit more code from the generated java source and the stack trace you receive when an error occures.

    DB:3.02:Re: Classcastexception With Jsp 3f

    By the way, since I have not met this problem with Tomcat even I put my JavaBean in the Servlet Class path. Why Weblogic does not adopt the same method with Tomcat? I don't think Application Developers should be aware of ClassLoader's problem.

    DB:3.01:2 Lamers Question About Jsp cx

    I'm rather new in JSP servlets and there are two questions:
    1)I Don't realize the difference between request and page scope in JSP.
    What has page scope compared to request? page scope=request scope?
    2)I have to share one bean between several JSPs within request. How to do this?

    DB:3.01:2 Lamers Question About Jsp cx

    I quote from the jsp specification(Objects and Scopes):

    "Objects are created within a JSP page instance that is responding to a request object. There are several scopes:
    - page - Objects with page scope are accessible only within the page where
    they are created. All references to such an object shall be released after the
    response is sent back to the client from the JSP page or the request is
    forwarded somewhere else. References to objects with page scope are stored
    in the pageContext object.
    - request - Objects with request scope are accessible from pages processing
    the same request where they were created. References to the object shall be
    re-leased after the request is processed. In particular, if the request
    is forwarded to a resource in the same runtime, the object is still reachable. References to objects with request scope are stored in the request object."

    I think that should clear up the confusion.
    So if the request is forwarded to another resource using the jsp:forward element you may access an object with request scope
    but not the objects with page scope.

    Hello World,

    I have a very normal usecase and can't believe the problems I run into.

    I have a selectManyCheckbox which I supply with a List of SelectItems.
    Find below the basic code.

    The form throws a validation Error on submit, the action PersonBasisBean.loeschePersonenklassen is never called.

    I found out that the selected options in the selectManyCheckbox are validated against the List of SelectItems. Too bad that my managed bean has a request scope and the collection of SelectItems is empty at the moment of validation.

    I set debug breakpoints on getPerson_personenKlassenAsSelectItems() and the method is called twice before the validation error appears. All managed bean properties are null when the getter is called, so I cannot even re-construct the List of SelectItems because I don't know the value of the form property 'person_id'.

    I don't want to give all my managed beans session scope!
    What could I do?
    Can I somehow disable this validation?

    Is there a solution in alternativ JSF implementations? I use MyFaces 1.4.

    Thanks
    Kai

    Hi,

    Am using JSF 1.2 , Jboss AS 5.1.0 , Liferay Portal 6.0

    When I login, my Phaselistener gets called and I will land on Home page. My beans are in Request scope for Home Page except for one bean which is in Session Scope.

    The bean which is in Session scope contains a link in it which redirects to a different page from Home page. If that is also made Request scope, redirection doesnt happen to another page and it stays in the same page.

    Now if I logout and login again, Home page is not displayed. May be the session scope which is there for one of the beans in Home Page is getting applied and its thinking that its in same session and so my Phaselistener is not getting called after I logout and login again.

    DB:3.00:Problem With Retrieving A Collection Object From Jsp xz

    Hi Im using an action servlet to retrieve data from a database table, I save the data in to a collection and pass it using req.setAttribute. here's my code snippet:

    timecardSQL timesql = new timecardSQL(con);
    Collection col = timesql.findAll();
    req.setAttribute(BeanNames.TIME_LIST, col);
    return mapping.findForward("success");

    I tried to retrieve the data through JSP using:

    logic:iterate name="timeList" id="columns" scope="request" type="webtm.database.timecard.timecardCOLS"

    but it didn't work, JSP produced this error:
    "Cannot find bean timeList in scope request" what does this mean? I can't understand it so I tried a different method, this time I used:

    Collection col = (Collection) request.getAttribute("timeList");
    if (col == null)
    out.println("empty collection");
    else
    out.println("not empty");

    Unfortunately, it prints out "empty collection",
    why is the collection object not passed on to the JSP page?

    Please help! Thanks!

    well it should be there just try to print out all the request attributes using pageContext.getAllAtributes(REQUEST_SCOPE) and check, I guess something wrong with naming BeanNames.TIME_LIST, is it "timeList"

    I have a managed bean:

    managed-bean

    managed-bean-scoperequest/managed-bean-scope

    value#{bindings}/value
    /managed-property
    /managed-bean

    But now I've stored data in the backing bean and need to set the scope to session so the data is not lost. Then I get:

    javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: javax.faces.FacesException: javax.faces.FacesException: The scope of the referenced object: '#{bindings}' is shorter than the referring object

    Is it not possible to use session scope when referring to bindings?

    DB:3.00:Changing Request To Session Scope In Managed Bean sx

    Hi,

    corect, "bindings" is in request scpe and cannot changed to session. If you need to put your bean into session scope then remove the "bindings" property and access the bindings object through a JSF ValueBinding in teh Java code.

    Hi to all. I'm developing a new Web Application with Struts 1.2

    I have a JSP with entry data inside a form, this JSP is my initial page:
    bq. addresspbean:message key="label.welcome" / - bean:message key="label.company" /. /p/addressaddressform action="/Login"/addressaddresspa id="toggle" href="#" name="toggle"Inicia Sesioacute;n:/a/p/addressaddressdiv id="login"/addressaddressUsuario: html:text name="GpiLoginForm \\ " property="nombre" readonly="false" /

    In my struts-config.xml I have declared my Form Bean and Action like this:
    bq. addressform-beans/addressaddressform-bean name="GpiLoginForm" type="mx.com.infosyst.gpi.login.form.GpiLoginForm" //addressaddress/form-beans/addressaddressaction-mappings/addressaddressaction path="/Login"/addressaddresstype="mx.com.infosyst.gpi.login.action.GpiLoginAction"/addressaddressname="GpiLoginForm"/addressaddressvalidate="true"/addressaddressscope="request"/addressaddressinput="/index.jsp"/addressaddressforward name="operacionExitosa" path="/paginas/operacionExitosa.jsp"//addressaddress/action/addressaddress/action-mappings/address
    When entering to the application the JSP causes the next error:

    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot find bean: "GpiLoginForm" in any scope

    DB:3.00:Jsf: Accessing Session-Scoped Managed Bean From Request-Scoped Backing Bean p3

    Hello,

    Maybe I am just having brain lock-up, so if it's a silly question, please go easy on me... I have a managed bean defined in faces-config.xml with session scope. If I have need to access that bean from a backing bean (request scope), how do I do that?

    Thanks

    DB:3.00:Jsf: Accessing Session-Scoped Managed Bean From Request-Scoped Backing Bean p3

    I am using the managed bean approach because it's simple and declarative. Just to be complete, this way also works (this code goes in the request-scoped bean and gets the session-scoped one):

    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    VariableResolver vr = context.getApplication().getVariableResolver();

    Object mySessionScopedBean = vr.resolveVariable(context, "sessionScopedBeanName");Regards,

    DB:3.00:Accessing Request Scope Bean In Session f8

    Hi

    Can any one help me by suggesting any means to access a Request scope bean in a session bean.

    The senario is: I have a request bean whose values are already printed on a JSP page. Now from that JSP I call a different bean which is of scope 'Session' I need to pass few values of the request bean in to the session bean for further procession.

    Please suggestion any possible ways of doing that.

    Thanks Regards,
    Jagadeesh

    DB:3.00:Accessing Request Scope Bean In Session f8

    I don't know what your exact requirements are, but manually putting a request scoped bean in the session scope is kind of a dirty workaround.

    I'd rather to implement this logic in the request scoped bean and let it access the session scoped bean and set the values in it.

    DB:3.00:Servlet Exception......... 8p

    this might be because you are using the Struts html tags after the closing /html:form tag.

    Note that if you accidentaly make your opening html:form tag a no-body tag (you put a closing / at the end so that it looks something like html:form ... /), this may be treated by your web server's parser as a no-body tag and everything after that tag you meant to be an opening tag will be outside of the form tag by default.
