    Is there an easier way to compare two workbooks to find differences than using the side by side or vlookup etc. I have two, with approximately 12,000 rows and 25 columns and I need to find the difference by row, then by column.

    DB:3.99:Comparing Worksheets kj

    Hi,

    The Inquire feature of Excel 2013 would accomplish what you want. As you mentioned, it comes bundled with Professional Plus or with an Office 365 subscription.

    I have tried the feature on a sample data set and it worked fine.

    I received two workbooks that contain real estate listings that contain address and $. I would like to combine these two workbooks into one that does not have duplicates. The columns are not in the same places, so I can't just copy and then sort/filter.
    Any ideas?

    DB:3.58:Comparing Two Columns And Returning The Differences. f7

    I don't understand your problem. You have 2 columns, one with address the other with amount. Copy the data from the 2 columns from one workbook and paste at the bottom of the data in the 2nd workbook. Now, use Data | Sort Filter | Advanced button
    to create a unique list.

    Hi:
    Anybody knows any tool or script to compare or conciliate two Oracle reports?
    The idea is to detect the differences to impact then in the older report.
    I tried comparing each .REX with a text file comparing tool (like a Unix diff), but the differences I found were bassed in tables and fields used when we save the report to the database. The main problem using that is how to impact the differences found in the Report Builder.
    The following are 2 examples of diferences found, which I dont know how to impact them in the Reports Builder

    DB:3.22:Numeric Differences When Converting From 5.1.5 To Xi 31

    Several reports which were converted from v5.1.5 to XI Webi have numeric differences. When comparing v5.1.5 to XI, the sums on the columns don't exactly match. The cell format on these numbers is set to eight decimal points. When we converted, I noticed the cell format changed from number 0.00000000 in 5.1.5 to custom 0.00000000 in XI. I don't know if this is the reason the sums don't match or if it's something else.

    Has anyone seen this issue and know how to fix it?

    In Excel 2007, it does not seem possible to do this. I must be doing something incorrectly.

    Aha, I believe it was due to a corrupt section break in one or both files
    I removed the First Page Header and create a new continuous section break.
    Then I unlinked to previous and finally copied/pasted the Header/Footer text.

    Hi

    If you go to the Desktop you will find that it works exactly like the Desktop worked in Windows 7, except for the missing Start Menu. You can still pin programs to the Taskbar, create Toolbars for your most used Desktop Programs, etc.

    In the Windows 8 the Modern UI Start Screen and Apps do not compare to anything in Windows 7.

    Here are a couple of links for the new Windows How To and Support website. You can search for any item, app, or component,and get a tutorial about how to use that item.

    DB:3.05:Comparing Two Datatables From Two Different Data Sources. zx

    Hello,
    Was wondering if anyone could possibly guide me in the right direction here. I currently have a web application i'm developing that pulls data from two data sources (SQL 2008DB Excel 2007).
    Right nowon pageload I have two connectionstrings.One thatpulls data from the SQL database and loads it into a DataReader, and then I load thatDataReader into a DataTable,and then populate a datagrid from the DataTable.
    The second connectionstring pulls from an Excel 2007 file that is localand does the same thing.
    I just did this to test my coding to make sure I was pulling data.
    I eventually want users to upload the Excel document and upon them uploading the Excel document I would like to compare the data that is in the Excel document with the data pulled from SQL and then generate a report or display the differences found in a
    new datagrid.
    This is where i'm stuck. Not sure exactly how I go about comparing both DataTables to accomplish this. Keep in mind the structure for both the SQL database and the Excel file will not be the same, but I can filter out which columns I want based
    on my query.
    Just need a little help with the comparing step.
    Any guidance will be much help.
    Thank you,

    DB:3.05:Comparing Two Datatables From Two Different Data Sources. zx

    Hi,
    To compare two datatables, you can use datatable.GetChanges() method, it gets a copy of the DataTable that contains all changes made to it since it was loaded or AcceptChanges was last called.
    public static
    DataTable CompareTwoDataTable(DataTable dt1,
    DataTable dt2)
    {
    DataTable d3 = dt2.GetChanges();

    return d3;
    }
    The use the return datatable bind to the new datagridview.
    Thanks

    DB:3.04:Comparing Worksheets In Excel 3j

    When comparing 2 worksheets in Excell 2003 (with the same columns), how can I find out exactly what data is missing from one of the worksheets. Thanks in advance!

    DB:3.04:Comparing Worksheets In Excel 3j

    You maybe can adapt this:
    Assuming data is in column A on sheet1 sheet2 and commences in row 2, enter this in any free column, row 2 on sheet2:
    =IF(ISNA(MATCH(TRIM(Sheet!A2),INDEX(TRIM($A$2:$A$100),),0)),TRIM(Sheet1!A2),"")
    adjust $A$100 to suit the number of rows of data and copy down.
    This should produce a list of data appearing on sheet1 but not on sheet2 (Providing the entry of data is identical on both sheets)
    Hope this may help

    Hi,

    You can compare 2 Programs,

    Go to SE39 Transaction code and give the program names and click the Display, then it will shows 2 reports, then you can find out the Differences.

    if you want to compare Programs in 2 Different systems use the RFC..

    1) Start SE39

    2) Choose Compare different systems

    3) Enter both program names and the RFC destination of

    the remote program

    4) Choose Display

    the system show the differences in blue colour

    Is not so big, depends on what you are checking, if is only API (so public classes/members) is quite easy.

    Instead testing also method body is more complex, but also unuseful because the method implementation can be different, but the behavior can be identical (after refactoring).

    Hi,

    I'm looking for the most optimal way of finding all numeric columns in a table without

    So far I have come up with:
    SELECT COUNT(COLUMN_NAME), COUNT(DISTINCT COLUMN_NAME)
    FROM TABLE
    WHERE TRUNC(COLUMN_NAME) = COLUMN_NAME

    Then comparing these two results.

    But that's just too slow. I could check for numeric columns with unique indexes,
    but that's not guaranteed to find all possible solutions.

    Any ideas ?

    I have a table with about 900 columns and need to compare 2 rows in PL/SQL to find which columns are different between the 2 rows.

    Is there a generic way to this by iterating over the columns without naming them explicitly perhaps by referring to the column number?

    for example:

    foreach col in columns
    if row1.col != row2.col then write column names and values to table

    DB:2.95:Comparing 2 Rows Of Data 18

    You can use data dictionary to easy build up your script or at least the most troublesome part of it.

    So start with user_tab_columns, find out its columns. For generation you can use either simple select that gives you desired info, or if you feel better with cursors and pl/sql then you can use dbms_ouput.put_line to generate each of your comparison lines.
    Just be inventive and remeber that knowing data dictionary can be a real strength! :)

    DB:2.93:Comparing Data Between Two Identical Tables From Different Data Sources dk

    Hi guys. I'm doing a data migration effort between two databases and I wanted to use QlikView to do some QA. Basically, I have a data table in one database that I'm migrating to another, so the data should be exactly the same, except that the columns are named differently. Is there a good way to compare two tables in the QlikView script to find data discrepancies? There will be a unique key identifier that will persist between the two DB's, so I can key off of that. I basically want the script to spit out rows that have differences. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi,

    Has anyone a glue what are the main differences between Struts
    and JSTL if we compare their i18n functionality support (not comparing MVC2 support that is only in Struts)?

    Are there any reason to use JSTL with Struts if we do i18n
    support for Web application, anyone compared these two libraries?

    Br

    DB:2.93:Struts And Jstl Or Together 1z

    Well, as the documentation on the Jakarta website says, there are certainly areas where some of the Jakarta I18n taglibs (http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/doc/i18n-doc/intro.html) will overlap in functionality with the JSTL (http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/doc/standard-doc/intro.html). I believe the Jakarta I18n taglibs filled a gap when there was no JSTL available or when it was being developed. Both provide core capabilities for using resource bundles from within JSP pages as well as tags for formatting data such as numbers, dates, and times.

    That being said, the JSTL is intended to provide a core set of JSP tags that a developer can learn once and use in multiple JSP containers. So, for your application, you are reducing your application's dependency on 3rd party libraries that need to be included with the application. The JSTL may receive more "face time" in terms of development resources and "press" as the Jakarta JSTL is intended to be the reference implementation for the JSTL to which other application server vendors will most likely bundle.

    I need help, i cant figure out the code to let me compare two text boxes (text) on a button click and too display the differences in another text box.

    I think what you want is to embed a diff tool, perhaps with a library, so that you can compute the differences between the text and then visualize the diff in a third text box. A text box alone will not be a flexible enough control to display the differences
    in the style that Windows users are used to with rich markup such as colourization.
    But
    read this post, which describes a few different C# libraries (with GPL'd source) that implement a diff from scratch. Notably:

    but generally the environment has sybase, java, unix shell scripts.

    will doing a unix diff command on the files and writing to some temp directory would be the probably way.

    -change in sql code
    -stored procs, triggers

    java
    -code change, difference in file
    -unix differences

    unix shell

    it got messed up when a "ISQL" compile failed to compile a create view statement which had one comments which actually got complied in a SQLAdvantage editor etc.
    /*
    */
    rather than 2 **'s in comment
    /**

    When things like this doesn't migrate, i get scared to see which one really went through and which one didn't.

    Hi Eurobum, I will tell you of my experience having two (2) personal G5's die after their warranty periods had expired and not being offered any help by the Apple people although they felt sorry for me. In addition, I have seen several G5s at my workplace die rapid and irreversible deaths. I do not trust or recommend ANY G5. I have been using Macs since 1985 in my professional work including video and photo work. I am a thorough Mac advocate, but I think Apple made a major design and production error with the G5s which is only admitted to the power supplies but extends well beyond. I am out several thousand dollars with my G5 loses. However, I am looking beyond these catastrophies to save for a new Mac Pro in the future. As was stated by others also, the G5 line will be obsolete soon so look ahead.

    This is a non-trivial process. Rather than doing a compare, you really are wanting to do a diff. CF doesn't do this out of the box, but you might want to have a sniff around on Google to see if anyone has implemented anything for CF.

    Hi,

The building has 275mm thick r.c slabs that are supported on columns arranged on a 3x3 grid spaced 5m apart (total 9No. columsn per floor). All columns have the same section size/properties as does the slab throughout the building.

    The only load that is applied to the model currently is SELFWEIGHT.

    We have produced two of the same models, one comprises indivdual floor slabs and the other comprising the full building model. We have been comparing the load take down results between the two models, so with the indivdual slabs we have been adding up reactions fromeach model and comparing it to the full building model. On comparing the two, we have found significant differences in reactions at GF level.

    I have attacheda screenshot showing thedifferences between the two models and the reactions that have been calculated.

    Can you comment on what may be causing the difference.

    Hi,

    I am a little confused by the results you have shown below. Is it that you have reduced the stiffness of the floor slabs in the full building model and as a result the reactions get closer to that calculated from the summation of reaction from individual slabs?

    I am also confused why we would need to alter the stiffness, or reduce it as you have? Should load take down not consider stiffness as this is more realistic compared to a traditional hand calc or individual slabs which works closely on contribitory areas only?

    Could you please clarify this and your reason for reducing stiffness. It is our understand stiffness should be kept as it is naturally in all models as this represents realistic stiffness behaviour.

    I look forward to your response.

    I have done some design changes to a harnesses and I wanted to see what the differences in material were, is anyone comparing the BOM's and if so how?

    DB:2.83:Comparing Bill Of Materials fa

    When we compare BOMs we compare also netlists.

    A netlist change is not less important then a BOM change.

    When a BOM change is found we show the cell (footprint) of the old and the new part, if it exists.

    This is to verify that the new part can or can not be assembled without any change in place of the old one on the PCB.

    I have a two databases that may be similar but are not identical.  I would like to compare the table and column names of the two databases to find out where they differ.  Are there any tools that would help me in this task?  In Oracle I would compare the meta data of the two databases in a select clause.  Can we do the same thing in MS SQL?

    Sorry I should have been more clear when I stated that it works with the other systems. We have the 8.1.1 and 8.1.1P1 plug in installed. That is why it is even more puzzling. It works on any other system but these two. The other systems are a mix off 31xx, 32xx, and 2xxx systems, most running 8.1.1. or 8.1.1P1

    Is there some code out there that can be used to compare data in column A to data in column B, and in some way, define which data is different, maybe in column C?

    They are personalised created templates for the actual library not document templates, if that makes sense. You know, so you can then create a new library based on an existing one.

    Hello. I was wondering if anyone has had experience comparing two different PST Files before.
    The reason I am asking is because I am investigating a PST that I recovered using ScanPST and a copy of the Original PST, and I would like to see what the differences are to report those.
    Thanks,
    Gene.

    DB:2.81:Comparing Two Pst Files 9s

    By default, the Inbox Repair tool creates a file calledfile
    name .bak, which is a copy of the original .pst file with a different extension. The .bak file is located in the same folder as your original .pst file. You may be able to compare items from the .bak file by opening the file in outlook. Make a copy
    of the .bak file, giving the file a new name with a .pst extension. Open the "bak.pst" file, and then move any additional recovered items to the new .pst file that you created.
    Note: If you open the original PST (on which you run the scanpst tool to fix errors) in outlook , The file will still be corrupted and corrupt outlook again.

    DB:2.80:Comparing Pdfs Doesn't Recognize Obvious Differences x9

    It appears that differences that are not identified are ones that overlap other differences. So, in this case I have an ad with an image that takes up about 3/4 of the top of the page. The original document is InDesign and the copy for the ad sits on top of the image (not on another layer, but on top as in the stacking order). All copy changes that are geographically located below that image are picked up, but none of the others are. Changes are simple ones like copy edits, deleted text, things like that.

    A lot depends on if the columns and rows are in the same order, or if you can restore one sheet to the same order as the other. Then you could use a third sheet, with formulas like

    filling the third sheet.
    If not, then you need more sophisticated formulas.

    DB:2.79:Help Comparing Two Tables And Only Outputing If There Are Differences mx

    I am sort of a novice SAS user. I was wondering what would be the best way to compare the two tables and only output if there were differences in the data from the two table. I tried using the below code but due to my tables having multiple variables that need to be checked. The sort by one variable is not producing the intended results.

    DATA OT_2_current;

    MERGE OT_2_new (IN=T1) OT_2_old (IN=T2);

    BY equip_unit_init_cd;

    IF T1 AND NOT T2 THEN OUTPUT OT_2_current;

    RUN;

    DB:2.79:Help Comparing Two Tables And Only Outputing If There Are Differences mx

    Another option is to use the EXCEPT set operator in Proc SQL.

    See Base SAS(R) 9.2 Procedures Guide

    Either the columns must be in the same order in both tables or you should user the CORRESPONDING keyword

    You can get the unmatched records in table first using something like this (untested)

    Proc SQL ;

    Create table firstonly as

    Select * from first

    Except corr

    Select * from second

    ;

    Quit ;

    Then get the records in the second table not matched in the first by interchanging 'first' and 'second' in the code.

    1. OBI SE is the Discoverer and Reports based solution. Currently available in rel. 11. I guess you ment OBI SE1 that is OBIEE based.

    2. The default installation of OBI SE1 is based on BI EE 10.3.2.1. As stated in Metalink3: "It is supported and quite easy to upgrade the BI components of BI SE1 to higher versions. Just run the BI EE installation as you would for any upgrade -- it will detect that BI EE is already installed and prompt you if you want to keep your configuration or install a new/default. You should choose to preserve your configuration. (of course it is always advised to make a backup before installing) The installation will proceed, installing just the updated product and leave the configuration intact."

    Many thanks Mike. This works ! and it is matching up the names from column A with those in Column B which-are-formatted-exactly-the-same-way as in column A . I'll figure out the way to clean-up whole list and apply this.

    Hi All,

    An algorithm with java program can be used to compare the two XML files and list out the differences at attribute level .Is there any features available in CCB2.3 where this can be achieve only with configuration without going for any customisations?

    File 1 : XML Person - 'ABC' Premise - 'XVY'
    File 2 : XML Person - 'DFV' Premise - 'XVY'

    Compare File 2 with File 1 if any differences display . Result : Person - 'DFV'

    Thanks!

    DB:2.77:Comparing Two Xml Files In Ccb2.3 ? 87

    The solution would depend on what you are trying to achieve, is it node to node comparison? overall file comparison? If there is any difference in either of the aforementioned approach, do what with the result?

    Dear experts,

    I have an application that displays differences between two text files, something similar to comparing functionality of Visual Source Safe.

    I am using a CListCtrl with two columns. Some of the lines I display may be very long. Such lines are not displayed in full, but part of them is replaced with ...
    Could you please tell me how I could have horizontal scrollbars in each column?
    Also, how could I make both scrollbars work synchronously to make comparison easier, so that dragging one scroll would automatically move another one?

    DB:2.76:How Do You Cross Reference Two Speadsheets To See The Differences In Content Without Going Through Line By Line 9x

    Hi,

    We can do this with conditional formatting. Let's say we want to compare sheet 1 with sheet2.

    Select sheet2 and then select A1 in that worksheet. Right click A1 - name a range and name the range, I used 'MyRange' with no quotes. Now
    very important, In the 'Refers to box change the reference to

    =Sheet1!A1

    OK Out.

    Now with A1 still selected drag toselect all the cells on sheet 2 we want this to apply to then

    Home tab|Conditional formatting|New rule|Use formula to decide which cells to format and enter the formula

    =A1MyRange

    Click the fill tab, pick a colour and OK out and your done. Sheet 2 should be highlighted if the cell is not the same as the same cell in sheet1

    excellent help.thanks!

    That is good.
    Here's another one I did before I saw this one:
    1. Find a good zoom factor to view the two drawings
    2. Type VIEWSIZE to get the current magnification.
    3. Round off to the nearest whole number and write it down or just remember
    it.
    4. Pick a point on the lower left side of the drawing that is common to
    both drawings.
    5. Zoom; Left; Type in the value you wrote down.
    6. Do the same in the other drawing.
    7. Close all drawings except those two
    8. Save the view in both drawings
    9. Use CTRL+TAB to quickly compare the two drawings.
    You'd be surprised of what you can see even if not zoomed in.
    Not necessary to start a new drawing session, but that doesn't mean I
    wouldn't try the other way. It sounds cool
    In our case it doesn't work for us when we have a rowhouse, for example and
    each of the unit plans are XREF'd with identical drawing as the other plan.
    Because the nexted XREF, if the layer on it was changed would be changed in
    both plans and you wouldn't be able to tell which unit plan went with what
    building. It would be confusing. You'd have to bind the nested XREFs in
    order for it to work. That wouldn't be impossible, but somewhat
    impractical. However in a drawing where there were more than one version
    and had no XREF'd drawings, then you could XREF it into a new drawing and
    assign colors and compare. If unit plan versions were saved (and they
    should be), then it would be possible to XREF the different versions of the
    simpler unit plan into a new common file for comparison. So, it would work
    well for us on our Single Family Residences.

    DB:2.75:Data Reconciliation Of Tables x7

    I am using SQL Server 2008 R2. I need to reconcile two tables (each holding about 150K to 200K rows of data) with similar data and pick differences which is fairly easy. I just cannot come up with a query to return columns that are not for reconciling
    yet must be on the results. Assume table A and table B need to be reconciled with columns A, B, C, D, E. I need a resultset to show rows in A but NOT in B OR in B but not in A by virtue of comparing columns A, B, C ONLY yet returning the whole resultset (i.e
    A-E)

    DB:2.75:Comparing .Java Files In Jbuilder 8a

    Is this possible? I couldn't find this discussed elsewhere on the forum and am curious if and how this can be done. Currently using JBuilder 3.00.

    The problem is that I have two slightly different .java files (applets) where one works and one doesn't. I'd like to have it step through both files and tell me where the differences are (like diff in unix--and no, I don't have a unix platform available to just use that :p ).

    DB:2.75:Comparing .Java Files In Jbuilder 8a

    I'm not aware of that feature directly, but it's been awhile since I used JBuilder. Why don't you post to some borland newsgroup and see if any one knows the answer? Most IDEs have some limited version history that will allow you to compare versions of the same file. You could make one copy of the file your first version and the separate copy the second version and then compare ... ... ideally, you'd use a source control application for finding the differences.

    SO I am having trouble knowing why my predicted probabilities do not match up with what I expect it to.

    I am comparing this:

    proc logistic data=natdata outmodel=test333;

    class ioclass;

    model bad (event='1') = X Y Z

    output out=reg_result p=predprob;

    run;

    And in reg_result there is a estimated probability variable.

    Then I manually create a variable called probability which is:

    1/(1+e^0(intercept+ X*B1 +Y*B2 + Z*B3))

    with B1-B3 being the regression coefficients.

    Ignoring differences due to rounding, shouldnt the two columns be the same?

    DB:2.74:Proc Logistic Out And P Statements 1d

    It kind of depends on what coding you used for the dependent variable. Do your predicted probabilities look like (1 - expected prob)? Or are they completely mucked about? I wonder about this because of the 0 in your manual equation--I assume that it is a negative sign in your actual calculations. You might want to add XBETA=logitvalue to the OUTPUT statement to check if your difference is, in fact, due to rounding. Logitvalue should be equal to (intercept+ X*B1 +Y*B2 + Z*B3).
