    Hi

    need some help

I am using vmware converter 4.3 to do an online conversion of a windows 2003 64 bit server.

The conversion fails at 98 % with the Error: Cannot open the destination virtual machine for reconfiguration.

The machine has two drives , c and d:

When i try conversion of only c it goes through successfully.

    cheers

If C: works, you can simple convert this, rename the original system (and change is IP) and then use robocopy to copy the other disk.

I follow the directions and the conversion starts, but when it completes the conversion (Parallels v3.0), I get an error message; "The virtual machine may not have shut down cleanly. Shut down the virtual machine and try again."

I've tried starting this 3 times and get the same message. What should I do?

You must properly shutdown Windows from within Windows using the Start gt; Turn Of Computer gt; Turn Off command.

Also after closing Parallels make sure there are no .lock files in the Virtual Machine Bundle Package.

Note: You may also want to boot back into Windows and run the CHKDSK /F Command in a Command Prompt and then when done reboot and properly shut down from within the OS.

Note: You may also want to make a copy of the Parallels Virtual Machine and uninstall Parallels equivalent of VMware Tools along with what was previously mentioned and then run the go from there.

Disks are fine, but, other than the C drive the rest are connected via iSCSI Initiator. Never had a problem with that before though.

The logs are a bit greek to me, but the server log shows the following a couple of times:

    Start agent service: vmware-converter-agent

    Couldn't start service: 1058

Start agent failed: Service manager error

Not sure if it impacts anything.

Hi, I'm investigating a possible conversion from Microsoft Virtual Server to VMWare server. The conversion from the Microsoft virtual machine worked fine, but it only uses one processor, even though it still gives me the option to select 2.

If I create a new machine, the two processors work fine, though, so it's just on the converted machine that the problem exists. Is it possible for VMWare to use multiple processors on a virtual machine built from a 1-processor machine? Thanks.

Just tried that and got the message that the hardware was already up to date and didn't need upgrading, so I guess that command is for something different.

DB:3.44:Convert Machine Function Error In Vmware Converter Standalone Client 5.5.3 Build 2183569 sj

I noticed an interesting problem in VMWare Converter Standalone Client 5.5.3 build 2183569, which cost me some hours of head-scratching today. To reproduce:

    1) Select Convert Machine and chose a machine from a Infrastructure source (mine was an ESXi 5.1 server - not sure this matters).

    2) In the Destination System options:

    a) choose a destination type of VMWare Workstation (so the destination is different than the source)

    b) set the destination name to be the same as the name of a *different* virtual machine on the Infrastructure source.

    c) set an appropriate destination location for the virtual machine, and defaults for the other options.

    3) Start the conversion job.

You will see that the *source* machine in the conversion is no longer what you originally selected, but has changed to the machine with the same name as what you put in the *destination* name. As a result, you will receive a converted copy of the wrong virtual machine.

The only way I was able to get around this problem (and still use the destination name that I wanted) was to temporarily remove the Infrastructure machine with that name from the Infrastructure inventory of machines. Once I did that, I was able to set the destination name to what I wanted, and actually get a copy of the correct virtual machine.

    Can someone else confirm this?

    Hello

I could not reproduce this; there should be something peculiar in your environment. Could you please upload the logs?

Also share anything unusual about the source and destination, e.g. vmx file name different from the folder name, duplicated VM names, etc..

As part of a DR scenario, is the following possible:

Convert a physical machine to a Virtual image, but still use the physical machine say until it crashes.

Use the virtual image as a backup, but replicate/update the virtual image so that infomation and data are up to date from the physical machine.

You can do it with Converter by scheduling hot-clones. Not very pretty though and a pain to manage. You're better off checking out one of the DR products like Double-Take, ESX Replicator, Platespin P2V, Replistor.

I ran a test p2v conversion of a domain-joined Windows XP Pro workstation yesterday. I didn't make any changes during the conversion (e.g. computer name, SID, etc. remained the same), and I left the virtual machine "off" on the ESXi server after the convert. The conversion ran overnight, and today when complete, I removed the NIC from the new virtual machine and powered it up - logging in with cached credentials. After that I shutdown both the new virtual machine, and the physcial machine. I readded a NIC to the new virtual machine, powered it up, and veriffied that it was getting IP address and DNS information from the DHCP server. The problem I have is that I can only login locally now... when I try to login with domain credentials I get the below error...

"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavbilable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for assistance."

I found a post that appeared relevent (http://communities.vmware.com/message/744185#744185) and executed the suggestion of removing the archived NIC (set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1) - which was a Broadcomm. However, after rebooting the virtual machine I am still getting the error.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

The V210 and the V445 are both SPARC models, and as such cannot be virtualized onto vSphere, whih only supports x86.

You'll need to create a new VM, install Solaris x86 and install and find/install a Solaris x86 version of your application.

48 hours on, I\'m still waiting for a single post office re-index to complete. I\'m running a single Linux POA and a DVA on the same virtual machine. The system does not seem to be resource bound, with ample available CPU. Memory and disk I/O available in the VM.

I am seeing the following error on the POA by the tens of thousands:
    Code:

DB:3.25:Thread: Indexing And Document Conversion Errors kk

While typing my reply to you, this appeared on the POA console:

    Code:

After this abend, the five running gwdva processes all disappeared and the gwdca process has started again.

The poa continues to log these errors:

    Code:

top now shows gwdca doing the work while the re-index continues.

You say that this post office message count isn\'t much, but it takes over 24 hours to index on an old version of GroupWise with old hardware and without documents. With GroupWise 2012 including documents it has already exceeded 48 hours and is still grinding. That\'s terrible!

After converting a working SharePoint 2010 Enterprise RTM server running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 from a Hyper-V 2008 machine to a VMware vSphere 5.5 v10 machine, none of the
site pages are accessible and an error is displayed stating that we are running an expired trial version. I tried using a variety of browsers, and get the same message with each one.
Since the new virtual machine is hosted on different hardware, I tried to reenter the SharePoint license key. When attempting to do that in “Central Administration Upgrade and Migration
Convert farm license type”, the key field does not accept any typed entry and the “ok” button is grayed out. The current license listed is “SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License”. Since that is highest license level available,
I understand why I can’t reenter the key. But I don’t understand why we get the error message stating we are running an expired trial version.

When I shut down the VMware virtualserver and fired up the old Hyper-V server, everything works fine. The static server IP, gateway, DNS, and domain hostname are the same on both.

The conversion was done using the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone version 5.5.2. The Hyper-V virtual machine was shut down prior to the conversion and the conversion source used in the VMware
converter was set to “Hyper-V Server”.
Anybody have a solution? Thank you in advance.

    DB:3.18:Platformerror Fault: 1450 Resolution aj

Several of my conversion failures have been solved through reading this forum, so I'm contributing my own successful troubleshooting after I got this error: PlatformError fault: 1450 today on a Windows 2000 Professional SP4 desktop I was archiving. What solved it for me was increasing the size the registry from 36mb to 64mb.

The conversion attempt got to 100% and failed. Attempting to load the virtual machine resulted in a Blue Screen of Death with code 7B, INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. The source machine had no hidden partitions, just a 9gb basic disk. The source machine had a popup window complaining that the registry size was too small, so on a hunch I increased it to 64mb.

The subsequent conversion completed successfully and the resulting VM works properly.

    \- Greg

    DB:3.18:Platformerror Fault: 1450 Resolution aj

This worked for me as well. My target was a Windows 2000 Server with SP4. I also got the PlatformError fault: 1450 message in the target log. The only difference was that the conversion attempt errored out at 99% instead of 100% and the target was originally set to a 55mb registry size. Raising the registry size to 64mb did the trick.

Whenever I attempt to boot my Virtual XP machine, I get the attached Blue Screen of Death. Error is STOP 0x7B. I used VMware-converter-4.0.0-146302.exe to produce the virtual machine. I have successfully used the configuration option of Converter post conversion, but without effect.

How can I convert this machine?

Thanks for any light you can shed on my problem.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I've used the converter for 3 other servers without issue but they all had 2003 Server with SATA or SCSI raid controllers whereas this VAIO box has an IDE controller and XP Home. The host machine that I'm trying to run the VM on is XP 64bit. It has 3 VM currently running on it with no issue. I've tried several adding the scsi lines to vmx file as well with no postive results.

Right now, I'm trying it one more time with block-level versus file-level and see if that is the difference. Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Hi All,

I used vCenter Converter to copy Windows 2008 R2 to target machine. Target OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

    The conversion was successful.

Then I tried to start Windows 2008 in Vmplayer 5. A black screen appeared and gave error "operating system not found".

So I tried to start virtual machine and entered its Bios setup. I were able to find "Hard Drive" and "VMware Virtual SCSI Hard Drive (0:0)" on the top of the list.

What could be the cause of "operating system not found" error?

    Thanks a lot!

DB:3.14:Windows 2008 Can Not Be Booted In Vmplayer 5 mx

Boot the Virtual Machine from a Windows Live OS CD/DVD/ISO Image or use Kaspersky Rescue Disk ISO Image from Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10. Note that if you use the later you need to temporarily remove the USB Controller from the Virtual Machine' Settings in order to avoid a Mouse Tracking issue caused by booting Windows Virtual Machine's from a Linux Live Distro.

What you need to do is check and if necessary set a value for a Registry Key and the KRD has a nice Registry Editor that automatically mounts the Windows Registry on the Windows system it's booted from. The Windows Live OS CD/DVD/ISO Image may require additional steps to manually load the System Hive of the Windows Registry and then manually unmount it when finished, which is why I like using the KRD.

    The target Registry Key is:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\LSI_SAS\Start

The Start Key should be of type REG_DWORD and should be: 0x00000000 (0)

Note: If you used the KRD and temporarily remove the USB Controller don't forget to add it back.

DB:3.12:P2v Procedure For Linux Machine xj

hi is their any Vmware convertor to migrate physical linux machine into virtual linux machine. if yes then please tell me the convertor name and procedure of conversion . please tell how safe it will be as like windows machine conversion.

DB:3.12:P2v Procedure For Linux Machine xj

In my case all my server are boot from SAN RHEL5 servers. So my job was easy.

I have the LUNs presented to ESX server where I want my VMs.

Created the VM's with VMDK of the size i want, and Also added the respective LUNs as RDMs to the VM. Booted in to rescue mode with RHEL5 CD/DVD.

Rescue mode detects the RHEL installation on raw LUNs and mount it in /mnt/sysimage

    chroot /mnt/sysimage

    edit /etc/modprobe.conf

remove all the enteries and make a new one as following

    alias scsi_hostadapter mptbase

go to /boot and remove the backup the initrd images from there to /tmp and remove.

    run mkinitrd /boot/initrd-lt;same as it was earliergt; lt;kernel version #gt;

the kernel version # can be found in /lib/modules. get this beforehand for the mkinitrd command.

once you have the initrd img, run exit to getout of the chroot.

    Run dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda bs=8192

in my case sda is a VMDK and sdb is a RAW disk with ext3 filesystem. If you have more LUNs you might want to be more careful here.

once you have completed with the dd commands you can shutdown the VM and remove the RAW LUNs start the VM with the VMDKs alone an it will boot the VM with RHEL5 installation of tools will add your virtual nics to /etc/modules.conf

once the NICs are added you need to configure them for the respective n/w with the appopriate IP.

I know this procedure is as simple as a Windows P2V but works.

if you can explain me your situation like the original Physical Box is a Boot from SAN or local harddrive boot. Also if you need to rezise the VMDKs for the VMs. Are LVMs involved with the Linux? stuff like that.

I can give a more step-by-step notes for the migration.

Like told by POCEH, the destination virtual machine will have a different MAC address and you will need configure IP address again to the virtual machine... you can user a different IP address or the same of the source, but to use the same IP address you need shutdown the old physical server or remove/change the IP address of physical server to avoid IP address conflict.

You should be able to open this VM in Workstation 4 and upgrade it to a WS4-format VM (keep a backup first!). Then WS5 will be able to open the WS4-format VM.

In general, usually you can directly use VMs from the previous version, use VMs from 2 versions ago after upgrading them, but VMs from 3 versions ago need multiple upgrades using one of the interim versions.

    Pls help me to fix.

    Thanks!

    Hi Phuckof,

The error actually occurred after formatting the partitions when the helper in the destination VM has attempted to SSH connect to the source.

There was a similar problem with sources using DSA keys but it has been fixed. Can you export the task logs and upload them? The helper log is the interesting one.

DB:3.09:Vmm2012sp1 - Convert Virtual Machine For An Esx Vm ak

Hi everyone, question about the 'Convert Virtual Machine' function in VMM2012SP1. So i have four ESXi hosts with quite a few virtual machines on them. I found out that ESXi hosts can't be added to a VMware vSphere server. So my dilemma is how to get the
ESX vms into a Windows 2012 hv cluster. One way i read about is to copy an ESX vms .vmdk and .vmx files to a VMM library share. You can then run the 'Convert Virtual Machine' action against it. When I do this, it errors out near the end of the process with
either an 802 or 2927 error. Here's the questions: Does VMM2012SP1 support this type of conversion using .vmdk and .vmx files? Does anyone have any recommendations on a better way to convert ESXi vms into Hyper-v? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

DB:3.09:Vmm2012sp1 - Convert Virtual Machine For An Esx Vm ak

With VMMSP1 I was able to add my ESXi 4.1 hosts via the vSphere server. All hosts showed up in VMM and from there I was able to kick off a conversion.

Windows Server Enterprise 2012 with Hyper V role
    1 Domain Controller VM Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
1 SCVMM 2012 Evaluation Version (for conversion purposes)

    Intention:

Convert PM into a VM (VM01) to be hosted on HV01

    Steps taken:

Updated the PM with the latest Windows Updates. (This causes some of the DCOMs of a SQL Server Financial Application installed on the server to loose there authentication
credentials).Used Disk2VHD 1.63 (prepare for VM) to create an image of the PM -- VM01. This image started fine on the HV01, however, No keyboard or mouse response. From Remote Desktop connected into the HV01, from the console of the HV01 connected into the console of the VM01, also same result. Most probably the keyboard and mouse
drivers are not working in the VM on Hyper-V.Using a trail copy of SCVMM 2012 to convert the PM (based on recommendation that it is the best tool for this purpose). This resulted in the same issue with the keyboard
and the mouse. The conversion completes with information: Issues with installing Integration Services. See above SCVMM log.Installed Integration Services through SCVMM by right clicking on the VM01 and selecting this option. Integration Services installation completed successfully.
Still no keyboard or mouse responding after reboot of the VM01.Mounted the vmguest.iso and installed the Integration Services directly on the PM. Then did a SCVMM 2012 P2V. Same results. The SCVMM still tries to Install
the Integration Services and times out.Upgraded the PM to Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 reapplied SP2 afterwards. Uninstalled Integration Services from the PM. Initiated a SCVMM P2V conversion. Same
results. No access to the VM01 through the network either, thus no Remote Desktop possible. Most likely issues with the keyboard and mouse drivers, most likely caused by an incompatible HAL, which will cause the keyboard and mouse devices not to
be recognized properly and thus prevents the proper installation and/or working of their drivers.Created a fresh image copy of the PM using Disk2VHD, mounted the VHD file, copied halaacpi.dll in C:\Windows\system32\ edited the boot.ini (in root the folder - C:\)
to force the use of this HAL using the HAL=halaacpi.dll switch as implemented below. This failed as well booting normally, again with no keyboard or mouse response.
    [boot loader]
    timeout=3
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition /fastdetect /HAL=halaacpi.dll

Created a backup using Acronis True Image Echo Backup and Recovery for Windows 11.5 (Trail version) and restored it on a newly created virtual machine on HV01. The keyboard
worked. The VM01 recognized some new hardware and request to restart. After restart neither the keyboard nor the mouse worked.Restore the bootable drive C: from backup image onto the same VM01, basically reverting to the previous state, where the keyboard worked.Once VM01 booted, used the keyboard to check the hardware configurations. The causes for the situation where identified.Removed all software that could be hindering the Microsoft Hyper-V Integration Services from properly installing, e.g. Microsoft Hyper-V Integration Services (itself).Installed Microsoft Hyper-V Integration Services again, the then it recognized that the HAL was not appropriate and suggested to upgrade it. The upgrade completed successfully
and after a reboot, the keyboard, mouse, network card, and display were identified and the proper drivers were loaded properly. The migration of the PM to VM01 was completed successfully.

    Causes:

In this case for some reason neither Disk2VHD nor SCVMM were upgrading the HAL properly. The HAL of the VM01 was configured with Advanced Configuration Programming Interface (ACPI) PC (Halacpi.dll), and Standard PC, instead of the ACPI Uniprocessor PC (Halaapci.dll)
as indicated by Microsoft's support documents. This causes the Microsoft Hyper-V Virtual Machine Bus, Microsoft Hyper-V S3 Cap, Microsoft Hyper-V Generation Counter to fail from loading. Consequently, the keyboard, mouse, and network drivers will
not work either. There was an issue as well with the PS/2 mouse driver not loading properly.

    Hi All,

just starting off with our VMware Testing and am getting an error when trying to convert a Physical Server (a Virtual Iron virtual machine actually) to a virtual machine on an ESXi 4.0 host. The conversion always fails at 95% with the following message in the logs

Error 144 mounting the destination volume

Vmount library: Error 2 while opening VSTOR2 driver's control device

have tried the conversion from the source machine, from the vCenter Server and from a third machine all with the same result. As target i have chosen the vCenter Server and the ESXi Server - again the same result. Have tried virtual machine versions 4 7 as well as changing options on the Disk Controller from 'Preserve Source' to 'SCSI Bus Logic'. Always the error with the CloneTask and the VSTOR2! Target is an iSCSI Volume mapped to the ESXi Server. Have been searching around the communities here but not yet found a solution - can anyone point me in the right direction before i pull what little remains of my hair...

    thanks in advance!

    William

    DB:3.08:Converter Failure - "Error 2 While Opening Vstor2 Driver's Control Device" x1

Just a note if anyone is encountering a similar issue:

while i have no definitive proof, i believe this failure was caused by not having enough RAM in the target host. The host had only 2GB of RAM as it is just serving as a temporary migration target. Since that time i have successfully migrated other Linux machines to that same target host using the converter and have also used the converter to successfully migrate Windows 2003 servers to another host which is outfitted with 32GB RAM. I must say - when the converter works as expected it is automagical

    thanks,

    William

I'm trying to do a V2V conversion using VMware converter and keep receiving an "A File I/O error occurred while accessing" when i specify the source. The virtual host is a Linux server running VMware Server 2.0. The virtual machines run from an NFS mount on a NetApp. I've shared the q-tree as a CIFS share so i'm able to access the .vmx file via UNC path. Below are the settings i select before i receive the error.

Source type: VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine

    Virtual machine file: IPADDRESS\vm_hostname\hostname.vmx

When i hit next in the converter tool, i receive the following error: "A File I/O error occurred while accessing" when i specify the source".

When i've done V2V conversions in the past from a Windows host, i don't have this error.

Can someone tell me where i'm going wrong?

    Hey Tony,

Not too much of a difference:

In addition, vCenter Converter 4.2 adds functionality not found in the standalone Converter product including:

Support for VMware vSphere 4.1 as source and destination targets

    Support for importing powered-off Microsoft Hyper-V R1 and Hyper-V R2 virtual machines

Support for importing Windows 7 sources

Ability to throttle the data transfer from source to destination based on network bandwidth or CPU

    IPv6 support

Dont forget you have to pay for the vCenter one and not standalone. (i.e. you hvae to have vCenter.

Also See the following in detail about it:

I'm using the ovf tool to convert a virtual appliance to virtual machine format and getting a memory size limitation error based on the OVF source. The source ovf file specifies 4GB of memory for guest OS:

    Error:

    - Virtual machine has 4,096 megabytes of memory, which is outside the range of 4 to 3,600 megabytes supported on the host. This may be a general limitation of the host software, or specific to the guest OS selected for the virtual machine.

The work around is to edit the source ovf file and decrease the RAM size to 3 GB and conversion works fine. But I'm curious why this limitation is occuring. Is 3,600 MB the maximum virtual memory size supported byVMware workstation or server?

DB:3.08:Ovf Tool Memory Range Error kf

Ok, found the error. ovftool-hw4-config-option.xml has a hard coded limit of 3600 MB or RAM. Maybe that's a legit limit for that version of virtual hardware but that seems a bit odd to me. Once I changed that everything converted and ran just fine.

Which version of Converter are you using?

Use the function to copy the entire disk (not single partition).

Or, as write above, no to use Converter, but other tools:

    - if you have VC, just use clone

    - otherwise use tools to copy file between two ESX (esx, Veem FastSCP, ...)

DB:3.07:Problems Open A Microsoft Virtual Pc In Vmware Player ss

    Hi,

I installed VMware Player 2.0.3 build-80004 on my Vista Business 32 bit machine. When I try to open a Microsoft Virtual PC virtual machine (.vmc) that runs fine in Virtual PC 2007, I get the error message "An error occurred during conversion." in "Importing virutal machine.". The user event log shows the following two entries from source "VMware Virtual Mount Service Extended":

Vmount2.Vmount2Device: no drive letter currently assigned

Vmount2.Vmount2Service: VmountCopyFile failed with error 124

What do I have to do?

There is no configuration where I could change anything in VMware Player and the VM runs in Virtual PC 2007.

    Thanks in advance

I'm stuck for what seems like ages now with the V2V conversion of a VMware machine...

SCVMM is executed by a domain user with admin rights on the Virtual Server host. The conversion assistant is started for the VMware machine, owner and executing user are the same as the one running the SCVMM service.

    Error (2908)

The file \\virtualserver\VMLibrary\VMware\VM_SRV01\VM_SRV01-000001.VMDK cannot be accessed because it is in use by another process on the virtualserver server.

VMware services are stopped of course while doing that
No other processes were being observed accessing that file except the VMM agent (who opened the files successfully).

    What's going wrong here?

I know this is an old thread, but I recently ran into this problem.  I wanted to post my resolution in case someone else is searching for a resultion in the future. My v2v kept failing with the error 3101.  After a long day of troublehooting I was able to successfully convert my vm.  The problem was that I had taken snapshots.  Once I removed the snapshots the v2v went through without any problems...the first time I tried.

I'm trying to migrate a physical machine Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0) to virtual vConverterStandalone and do not start the process. Always says:

I think the problem comes because the / boot partition is located on a LUN that the operating system is RedHat through a multipath.

Any solution? Can I temporarily remove multipath and conversion?

Setting the firewall on Windows systems to allow incoming file share connections

To allow incoming file share connections, you must set Windows Firewall in the following cases:

When the machine is used to host standalone images

When the machine is used as a standalone destination

When the machine will be remotely hot cloned

When you use Windows Firewall, you must allow File and Printer Sharing. Also, to access File and Printer Sharing ports, you might need to change the scope of the IP addresses that the firewall allows. To activate File and Printer Sharing and change the cope of IP addresses, follow these steps:

    Windows XP

    1. Go to Start Settings Control Panel Windows Firewall.

    2. Click the Exceptions tab and select File and Printer Sharing.

    3. Click Edit.

    4. For each listed port, click Change Scope and select Custom list.

    5. Add the range of IP addresses that need access.

    Windows Vista

    1. Open the Control Panel and select Administrative tools Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.

    2. Double-click Inbound rules and in the list of rules, select the rule(s) for File and Printer Sharing (SMB-in).

    3. Select View Properties and under Properties, select Scope and select Remote IP address.

If needed, change the scope of allowed IP addresses by selecting one of the following (by default, only local subnet IPs are allowed):

    Any IP address

Custom list of IP addresses which need access to the file server (By default, this list contains "local subnet")

If a third party firewall is used, you must allow access to the following file sharing ports: TCP 139 and 445 and UDP 137 and 138.

Yes, try only to reconfig, the fail is because a VM couldn't be opened not because of unrecognized volumes.

Ensure that the version of the VM integration services binaries matches the version of the guest operating system in the virtual machine and then try the operation again.
