Yes. I've had a DCX3400 with 320GB for over a year. There are also 500GB versions (DCX3400 M) for use as AnyRoom DVR. They may or may not be available in your area.

What is the best HD DVR available in the Denver, CO area (80126)? I just picked up the Motorola DCH3416 but it only has a 160 GB HD. Looking at Comcasts website I see a DCH6416 and a DCX3400...it appears the DCX3400 is the latest and greatest available. Does that sound right? Can I just call and have a new one mailed to me and send the old one back? Thanks,

DB:5.34:What Is The Best Hd Dvr Available In Denver, Co Area? 9s

For a stand alone DVR, the DCX3400 would be current. They came with either a 250GB or 320GB drive.

Some subscribers with stand alone DVR's end up with the AnyRoom DVR models. These are DCX3400M or DCX3501 also marked as a Motorola RNG200N. These have 500GB drives.

If you go to the local Comcast office ask for the "black DVR" and bring the old remote with.

    Your DCH3416 has a 160GB drive.

I am now on about my 10th Comcast DVR and am very frustrated with the quality of DVR equipment Comcast is providing. Granted I am renting, so replacing them does not come out of my pocket, but the frustration of having the DVR fail while you're watching TV and losing all your recordings because the box has to be replaced is getting very old. My last DVR was a brand new Motorola DCX3400 right out of the box (according to the technician who installed it) that was installed in June. Three days ago it started powering off and on while I was trying to watch recorded shows. It would also happen when I paused and forwarded live TV. So far I've had to replace Motorola DVRs (both HD and nonHD models) several times as well as a Pace DVR one time. Comcast is never able to provide an explaination as to why their equipment constantly fails, they just replace it with another DVR, usually the same model or manufacturer, that will probably die in a couple months.

Are other people having this many problems with Comcast DVRs or is it just me? If it's a universal problem, why is Comcast continung to use the same manufacturers that obviously produce crappy equipment?

DB:4.89:Comcast Dvrs Are Pieces Of Junk! c7

I've originally had a DCT-6412 phase 2 box. This worked for 2 years or so, then it would just reset itself out of nowhere. When it came back up the recordings were still intact, but the guide data took forever to download. The box would also lock up all the time, but then all at once every button press you did during that lock up would execute at once, sometimes causing veryundesirableactions. The performance was horrible, everything you did was VERY SLOW. Then one day it rebooted itself and all of the recordings and series recordings setups were gone. That was the last straw so I traded it in for a DCH-3416.

The DCH-3416 was anincreadableimprovement over the DCT-6412. It added an HDMI connector. SD channels looked much crisper. Channel changing and navigation was MUCH faster than the old DVR. At first it took them a few tries to get it working (sending different signals to the box), but it did work. When I originally got the DCH, our area ran I-Guide A24. There was a bug with this version of the guide that caused the DCH box to randomly invert the guide colors and show very distorted graphics. After the summerOlympicsthey pushed out I-Guide A25 (most notable new feature was a revised search on screen keyboard). The box really served us well, besides a little louder hard drive whine than most other DVR's, we've had no issues.

The DCX-3400 box I just got has a 320GB hard drive. It stores twice as much as the DCH-3416. Again it is even faster than the DCH-3416 in terms of navigation and channel changing. There's more resolution options for HDTV, like 1080p/24 , 1080p/30 passthrough, native resolution conversion, and a sharpness slider that affects SD on a scale of 1 (soft) to 5 (sharp). So far I've had this DCX-3400 for 4 days and haven't had a single problem with it. It's slightly smaller in width than the DCH/DCT boxes, and a little less deep. It's slightly taller though, but not by much. The front LCD is much brigher, and the buttons on the front panel are touch sensitive (there's not really buttons, just designations where to touch). When you tap the front panel, the box emits a double click sound as feedback that you've touched one of the buttons. I can't believe how much faster the box is.

So I've had no issues with DCX-3400. Our area runs firmware 22.35 and I-Guide A25 still. The DCX box has twice the memory as the DCH, and the DCH had twice the memory as the DCT box. At 512MB of ram, a 320GB hard drive and a faster processor, the DCX has the power to run new HD guide interfaces, multi-room DVR, and home networking integration, should Comcast ever decide to overhaul their user interface. The box also supports MPEG4 decoding, should they ever go to that distribution method.

A Cisco cable box only works on Scientific Atlanta / Cisco equippedcable systems. These are now under trial for the new features, but no area has the TV Apps deployed yet. They will come eventually.

Most Comcast sytems have equipment supplied by Motorola, and those are the areas that have the apps now. These systems are not interchangable, a Cisco Box will not work on a Motorola system, and a Motorola box will not work on a SA / Cisco system.

I have a Motorola HD DVR box and a Motorola HD box on 2 different TV's. I notice that sometimes the audio and video is not in sync. It's annoying enough that it is bothersome. It comes and goes. Sometimes it's just slightly off, other times it's like watching a overdubbed foreign film. It is the sameon lower "normal" channels or the "HD" channels or whetherI have the audio going thru the entertainment system or the TV speakers. I called the Comcast support and they reset the boxes but that did not help. The tech said the Motorola boxesdon't sync correctly sometimes, but I thought that all Comcast HD/HD DVR boxes were Motorola. Has anyone else noticed this??

    Thanks

DB:4.46:Audio And Video Not In Sync. za

It's not your TV. It's Comcast. I just switched from DIRECTV (6 years) to Comcast and everything I watch on demand is out of sync: the picture is ahead of the sound by a quarter of a second to a full second or more: maddening! Sometimes this is true watching "live" TV programs as well, and it's not isolated to a few channels. What a fool I was to switch! I never had this problem with DIRECTV. I plan to cancel Comcast within the 30-day window and go back to DIRECTV with my tail between my legs.

Prior to having the DVR swapped, I had zero problems using the Xfinity TV app on my iPhone to control my old DVR. Suddenly, it's not compatible? Under "Manage Cable Boxes DVRs", it lists all three devices, but the DVR says:

"TV Control is not available for this cable box. Why?" Clicking the "Why?" link takes me to a page which leads me to believe the DCX3400 IS compatible, so I'm at a loss.

When I go to the DVR Manager page, all it says is:

"You're now ready to schedule DVR recordings from anywhere.Syncing in ProcessDVR Manager is currently syncing with your DVR."

It's said that since Saturday, after the DVR was replaced. At first I thought it was because the Guide hadn't finished loading, but now... Please help. I find the remote VERY beneficial to use.

Apparently it's not the hardware but the service/cable provider/network node at fault. I was researching the Motorola DCX3400 and found a site discussing it for the Canada cable provider SHAW. Apparently they have no issues at all with the hardware and it works as advertised, way better than older units. The motorola DCX series of cable boxes is VASTLY Superior to it’s predecessors both from a hardware and software side of things. The DCX series of cable boxes are ALL DIGITAL and in order for them to work to their PEAK performance they need to be connected to a 100% digital network which is generally FIBER OPTIC based or at least has a FIBER OPTIC backbone. The older DCT boxes were analog/digital hybrids and worked on either fiber/digital (faster) and analog (slower networks). The problems you were referring to are mostly network related and have little to do with the hardware itself.SHAW in Canada did a network upgrade before launching the Motorola DCX series pulling FIBER OPTIC cable to all the nodes on the network which were to be serviced by the Motorola DCX, Arris Gateway and other DIGITAL Only products. Once the FIBER – 100% ALL DIGITAL Network upgrades were complete Shaw then required it’s customers to upgrade or swap out their hardware to DIGITAL Versions to be compatible with the new 100% digital network, if they wished to reap the benefits and performance features. I have a Motorola DCX3400. Here are some issues I am having.

I have Fav’s setup with only HD channels. To get to my Fav’s I hit the Guide then Fav twice. If hit Guide the guide starts at the channel I’m currently watching. When watching a channel in my Fav's list I hit Guide then Fav twice it always takes me to the lowest channel I have in my Fav’s. Why?

Watching a channel and I want to go back and watch something again. It does not matter if I hit the 30 second back or reverse it will not backup.

Every time I record a show it stops recording before the show ends. If I manually add 1 minute and I’ve set it up to record the next show as well I get a message telling me I have to stop recording the current show to start the new recording or not record the next show.

When watching a show from the beginning and I decide to record it will only record from the moment I hit the record button and not from the beginning of the show.

I have 4-5 more things but these are the ones that bug me the most.

Is this just the way Xfinity UI works or Is there something wrong with my DVR?

DB:3.71:4 Questions About Motorola Dcx3400 sc

I dont use favorites but I think thats how they work.

You should be able to rewind live tv by pressing the rewind button.

If your shows are running long and the dvr time is set correct it might be the network, the networks commonly run shows late and end late, it happens all the time. If you have a show set to record back to back with that previous show and you got to extend a minute the dvr is suppose to tell you, you have a conflict as you do as your cutting into your next recording.

When watching a show and you press record it should go back to the time you tuned to that channel, it will not go back to the beginning but to the time you first tuned to it.

You definately have issues there that is not how most of that is suppose to work. if I were you I would unplug that box to reset it and then delete and then recreate your series recordings adding time to those that seem to cut off short. also in your dvr menu under settings turn on dvr clipping if its not on that will let you record over the time slot and allow you to do that.

I can't find any place to correct this in the DVR setup menus. I spent an hour on the phone with a Comcast technician, who finally told me I was out of luck because theDR430 does not have a HD input. But I read comments elsewhere from users who have been able to record from their cable DVR's without this problem, and one comment on this forum about a workaround for a Scientific Atlanta DVR, but the Motorola DVR does not give me the same options. Do I have to junk myDR430, or is there a workaround for this?

In order to use a DVR on a cable television service, that specific DVR model must be supported by the cable service provider. To the best of my knowledge the QIP6416 (unlike the DCT6416) was/is not supported by any of the Canadian cable service providers, which is why this model is not stocked by Future Shop.

The DCT6416 (the version of this box that is supported by several of the cable television service providers in Canada) is no longer stocked by Future Shop - it has been replaced by several newer DVR models introduced over the past couple of years.

not to throw a wrench here, but my recommendation for going with gateway is for other reasons. You are better off with gateway for the "future". Things will change and its better to invest in technology that is capable of IP and QAM over technology that is only QAM. Just my opinion, and you can take what i am saying for what it is. The features and lesser limitations on recording conflicts is a bonus. Lastly, if you do have a smartphone or tablet, you will be able to do remote recording, pvr management and control all from those devices to the gateway.

I only have a standard definition TV, so I've tried going with both the coax option and the A/V option of connecting to the TV, and both have had the same effect (or lack thereof).

Upon calling Comcast, I was informed that it might be a box issue, but that to send out a technician they would have to charge me for a "Failed Self-Install Kit." Are there any other options?

We've had Comcast service for years and due to the xfinity upgrade, we had to upgrade as well. Ordered the set-top box plus 2 DTA's and shortly thereafter, we chose to upgrade to HD-DVR and 2 DTA's.

When the equipment arrived I installed it and followed the on line page for activation. After an hour, the DVR displays "0" but no channels, no picture, and no sound. Telephone support sends a refresh signal. An hour later, the same results. No picture, no sound, no nothing. I'm bummed.

This morning I realize that they also shipped the set-top box, so I removed the DVR and installed that. (Yes, I know I can't have both the set-top and DVR on the same system.) This system comes up and I can watch TV again, even in HD. But this isn't the DVR service I wanted. Oh, and the DTA's are displaying the "Service Interrupted" message.

But it does proves the cable outlet at the DVR is working and that download signals can be received.

So I called 1-800-COMCAST for more help. I explained what's wrong (again) and what I've done. I ask for a replacement DVR to be shipped. I'm told I'll have to pay for the shipping, but a visit from a technician to swap it out is free. Problem is, I can't be at home during the day, and COmcast has chosen to set me up for an "all day" tech visit. I live 40 miles from work.

My request would save Comcast money and me time.

My real question for Comcast, if you're still reading, is what can I do to get the DCX3400-M working? Can anyone get me a unit shipped? As it is, I need to return excess equipment that I won't use. Adding a DVR to the box is no big deal. I am not standing in line at my local understaffed Comcast office. Last time I did that, I was there for over an hour to return a cable modem.

    DB:3.54:Dcx3400-M Won't Activate 3m

Thank you for the reply. Comcast finally agreed to ship another unit, and did so. It reacts exactly as the first did, so my alternative is to schedule an all-day-wait visit and meet a tech at the house. I hope it is as simple as it was for you.

Many thanks. I miss time shifting.

DB:3.52:Problem With Non-Hd Channels On Motorola Hd Box W/O Dvr 38

I've got Comcast digital service with their HD package and am currently using a Motorola HD box without the DVR. It is connected to my television via DVI out to HDMI in on my T.V. Starting today, the non-HD channels are displaying limited color/greyscale. All the HD channels are displaying correctly. If I unplug the DVI-HDMI cable from either the rear of the Motorola unit or my television the problem is solved, however if I am watching and HD channel and switch back to a non-HD channel the problem returns.

Any thoughts? Bad Motorola box? I called Comcast, they were clueless.

DB:3.52:Problem With Non-Hd Channels On Motorola Hd Box W/O Dvr 38

"Off" embeds the 4:3 SD channels in a 16:9 HD signal, so everything comes to the TV as HD. That way the TV is always seeing an HD signal. It won't "invent" resolution that isn't there, but it will simplify the interface between the box and the TV.

    DB:3.50:Hd Dvr - Motorola Dcx 3400 - Extreme Dvr Problems 9j

I quickly scanned the forums here and have not found any help regarding my issues. There are MANY problems so please bear with me.

Some Background: I've had the DCX3400 since I moved to my new home in spring of 2009. I've had these problems intermittently since then but never this severe. I've had COMCAST technicians come out countless times to check everything possible. My wiring/signal is good in home, the boxes have been switched out at least ten times - no I'm not exaggerating - I've had compact send the reset signal to the box many times, which does help TEMPORARILY. maybe for an hour at most- then it is back to the same stuff.

    Here are my problems:
When trying to select a recording to play after choosing the play command only black is displayed on the screen with the progress bar at the bottom with 0:00 at the left and for example 0:30 at the right, the play symbol is showing as if it should be playing but there is only black on the screen with the progress bar not moving. Fast Forward/Skip has no effect here.

The only time I am able to set recordings is directly after the box has been reset via the signal from Comcast or unplugging it from the outlet. If the box has been on for a while and I am attempting to set a recording the error message "UNABLE TO PROCESS REQUEST - We are unable to process your request. Please try again. If problem continues, please call Customer Service at 1-800-XFINITY. Code NCAP." After calling the number and speaking with a Comcast representative they explain initially that they do not know what NCAP code means, then after being on hold for ten minutes they said something like the maximum number of recordings have been exceeded OR the DVR is full. At the time of calling the DVR had about 12 season recordings set with about 15% full on the DVR itself. The representative had no idea what was going on after this was mentioned to them.

While watching ANYTHING On Demand the program stops - it just acts like it was paused without the pause command sent and will not respond to the play command. The only way out of this is to hit "Exit" on the remote. This happens exactly on the half hour and on the hour every time.

While searching through the list of recordings set for the DVR the box will list programs repeatedly. An example could be "The Event" is set at 9:00PM on channel 123. The DVR will show this recording at that exact time on the exact channel with the same exact show description repeatedly. I've seen it shownas muchas hitting the page down button four times before the next recording shows up - that is more than 25 times listed for the same show. This is in the "Scheduled Recordings" on the DVR menu.

Sometimes while recording programs it will freeze while recording the program until the user manually switches the channel or selects a recording to play.

At least 50% of my recordings show the black screen described above, andthe DVR/Guide is extremely sluggish.

As stated above Comcast has been out numerous times to exchange the box. I've had the DCX3400 (black) and the previous silver one. All boxes delivered by comcast eventually show the same results.Currently this problem is being worked on by a higher level technition and they say this problem has never or rarely been seen (I don't remember what he said) and they have people working on it to figure out. Please advise on any ideas that might fix this.

To Recap: Comcast HAS sent the reset signal numerous times, I've tried to manually power cycle the box, and have had several boxes replaced with the same results. The wires/cable signal is good according to the Comcast technician.

If it helps this is occurring in Northern California.

    Thank you for your help,

Thank you everyone for attempting to assist me. I have since switched to Directv and so far all is good! I am very disappointed that Comcast and all their tech support could not fix the problem but ended up insulting me as a customer. Hopefully this wont be an issue for many people out there because obviously there is no fix for it.

You definitely don't connect it to the DVR, since there are no inputs to it (other than the cable). Connect the DVD player to the TV, as an alternate input. Switch the input source for the TV when you want to use the DVD player. Use component or HDMI connectors from both the DVR and DVD, if possible.

I had a problem with Series recording for a specific program, which has been working for the last two years. Comcast sent out a signal to reset andhad me unpug/plug the DVR, butthat did not solve the problem. In addition, I found that changing channels between a HD channel to a non-HD channel was causing a delay of about 20-30 seconds. This was not happening earlier.

Comcast sent a technician who insisted it was a DVR box problem and installed a new box and said that all would be well once the Guide loads.

    The problem is still there.

A few years ago a Technical Specialist from Comcast who knew what he was doing, said the issue relates to the box having to convert the signals form HD to non-HD and this takes time. He went into some menu and changed a setting in 15 seconds and the problem was resolved.

I mentioned it to the technician from Comcast this morning but he was not open to any discussion.

Have you contacted Comcast support via phone or chat yet? I had to do so several times before I could get control of my mainDVR remotely (second one came up within the expected 72 hours and stayed up).Ultimately it was the chan group that was able to get them working, they had to send refresh signals several times until finally it worked. I had to completely reset the boxes (all of them), including removing the comcast coax, unplug, remove HDMI, wait a few minutes then plug coax back in, plug power cord back in, hook HDMI back up. Wait overnight. Completely sign out of comcast website also. Next evening, viola, the box was finally able to be seen on the website.

I recently replaced a defective Motorola DCH3416 DVR with a DVR that is labeled with a Motorola logo and RNG200N on the front. I believe this is really a Motorola DCX3501 DVR.

We currently have 2 DVRs an older DCX3400 DVR and the DCX3501. They are both selectable and visible in the TV listings and DVR manager websites. Every time I try to schedule a recording on the new DVR (with the dropdown box set to the name of the new DVR) it says it is sending it to the name of the older DVR and it it indeed schedules the recording on the wrong DVR. The new DVR appears to work correctly when I test it from the DVR Manager. You can see shows that are already scheduled to record (which had to be scheduled manually using the remote control due to this problem). You can even change channels on the DVR from the tv listings page. From the DVR settings page it is set as the default and the show name on tv and the show next 5 recordings tests work.

I have already tried comcast support both the live chat with support and via phone. They sent a reset to the box and did a lot of passing me around and escalation to other support departments but so far no solution.

Can someone at Comcast start investigating this? Thanks.

Last night I'm enjoying the HD recording of Saturday Night Live from the night before when all of a sudden the program just jumps ahead about 17 minutes. The elapsed time bar looks normal for a 90 minute program but when the program reaches the 20 minute mark it just jumps ahead to the 37 minute mark. There was no indication of a program interruption as in my old DVR box, just 17 lost minutes of a recording I was looking forward to enjoying. So now it turns out that every recording we set is a gamble that it will record properly at all. This is unacceptable !

Is Comcast monitoring these forums ? Does Comcast have any resemblance of a quality control program for their products ? I never thought I'd ever say I actually miss my DCT6412 but for all the quirks it had it certainly is a much more reliable DVR than this DCX3400 piece of junk.

Yeah, it would have to be a DCX3200 M P2.

I guess one day if I'm not busy I could just disconnect my two boxes and take them down there to find out. If they don't carry the DCX3200 M P2, then I'd bring these non-P2 boxes back home and reconnect them. My only concern is they might hit me with saying "We do have the phase 2 box, but an installer has to come out to hook them up". This is what they told me last year when I went down with my three DCH boxes and wanted the three DCX with AnyRoom DVR, saying "Only tech can install the new DCX boxes to make sure the AnyRoom DVR is working.

Needless to say, when they did come out, one of the DCX3200 M boxes has the wrong boot code on it, so they had to go back to the office and pick up anoter one. It needed to have 22.65 on it, but was something else and wouldn't connect to the DCX3400 M box.

There are frequent HDMI / HDCP issues when using alternate HDMImethods connecting a TV using baluns, repeaters, etc. Comcast boxes are touchy with the HDCP if it's not direct HDMI cable.

Make Geek Squad run a long HDMI cable between the equipment and the TV and see if the issue goes away. I run 60' of HDMI cableswithout issues.

Keep the Motorola RNG200 that's the newest DVR out there.

Marc, first remove your deails and personal information on this very public forum.

Esata drive extenders are only available for Scientific Atlanta / Cicso DVR's. They do not work on Motorola DVR's, the esata port is disabled, and there is no way around it. USB drives do not work on any of the equipment.

If you need more room, I'd suggest purchasing.a Tivo or Moxi DVR, where you can add massive amounts of storage for your needs. You purchast the equipment, and then get a rental cable card to activate the digital encrypted channels for you ditgtal progamming tier of service from Comcast. Tivo also charges a monthly fee for the Tivo service.

    HI Everybody,

On Saturday Comcast is coming to install a HD-DVR. I can only guess that it will be the Motorola DCX3400. Coming from a Directv HD-DVR, one of the features I liked is that I could Program the remote to be an RF Remote. Is that possible with this model.. Is this the model I will most likely get?

    Cheers,

    Dean

    DB:3.16:Comcast Hd-Dvr -- Motorola Dcx3400 - Rf Remote Compatible? a8

Non of the Comcast remotes or set top boxesare RF capable. You would need a 3rd party solution. Most users go with a wireless or wired IR repeater solution available from many suppliers and brands.

The latest DCX3400 and RNG110's have a IR receiver port on the back for short (10 foot or so) extendable IR receiver if you are hiding the DVR. They work with the IR receivers that come with the DTA's. IR receivers are also available from 3rd parties.

I use a Xantech wired IR system in my home.

Just got myMotorola DCX3400 set-up last night. First time I had any cable equipment in my house in over 20 years. The digital transition has forced me to abandon my old TIVO equipment and move on to the Comcast DVR.

I am amazed at all of the un-used channels that show up now. It is really annoying to have all of those unused channels show up as I am surfing the channels

Is there any way to program the CCX3400 to skip the channels that have no service?

    Thanks,

    DB:3.15:Dcx3400 Channel Skip xd

My original TIVO was a Humax. Nice box with a DVD revcorder on it. But based on the current digital experience I thought it would be risky to invest in new non Comcast hardware as tomorrow there could be another scheme that prevents new TIVO hardware from working. Just trying to minimize my risks.

    Sad to leave TIVO though.

    DB:3.15:Dvr Output Format dz

Vast majority of HD content comes as either 720p or 1080i. I think there are some isolated cases where 1080p might be in play at this point. Some boxes (like one mentioned earlier) can take any HD feed and upscale it to 1080p to make the picture slightly better (if the TV supports 1080p as well), otherwise, it's not really a huge difference overall, especially on most TVs that are probably under 50 or perhaps 60 inches or so.

DB:3.05:Why Are There So May Problems With Motorola Dvr Boxes? z3

I've been a Comcast Customer for over 15 years, back when it was ATT Broadband in my area (Pompano FL).

Anyway, over the years I've used several Motorola DVR boxes, from the DCT, DCH, and most recently the DCX3400-M that was installed three years ago (along with two DCX3200-M boxes). The reason I went with the DCX3400-M was the multi-room DVR connectivity with the 3200-M boxes.

Up until a few months ago, I hadn't had any major issue while using the DCX3400-M, other than while watching Live TV, it not being able to Rewind or Pause, which also happened some on the DCT/DCH as well.

But since October, I've had several programs not record, even though the red REC light was illuminated. Some were series recordings, other were one-time movies or programs. Just this past Saturday night, I had one program set to record from 10pm-12am on Ch 209 (MeTV) and also SNL-HD from 11:35pm-1am. At 10pm I was watching the local news on Ch 7, and saw the red REC light come on. When the news ended at 11pm, I went to my DVR List, and the program that was to record at 10pm was not listed. I used the Swap button to view the 2nd-tuner, but the screen was black. I had to change channels on the 2nd-tuner for it to start to display an image. But since it was 11pm, the first hour of the movie did not record.

Needless to say, this issue with the DCX3400-M not recording for no reason, is going to have to get fixed, as power-cycling it does not fix the issue of it occasionally not recording. I know the only way to "fix" this issue is for Comcast to replace the box, which means I get to say bye-bye to all my saved movies and programs.

To date, I've yet to have a Motorola DVR box last more than 2-3 years without developing some type of problem. Either not recording, having issues with Rewind/Play/Pause/FastForward live TV or saved programs, Swap tuner not working, etc. I don't know if it's just bad hardware on Motorola's end, or the software that is on the box.

I wish Comcast would have a DVR box that for once was issue free, but I doubt that will happen.

DB:3.05:Why Are There So May Problems With Motorola Dvr Boxes? z3

As stated, the Motorola DVR boxes that I've used (DCT/DCH/DCX) are Ok for the first year or two, but then the problems start, and progressively get worse. Then when the box is changed out, the new one is OK, and the cycle begins again.

Oddly, the DVR and remote were working fine last night.

This morning when I powered up my TV and Cable/DVR an odd screen appeared overmy TV display. It is a white box which has setup options for entering a parental control code. The only other option is to cancel. If I cancel this screen i am only able to use the Info,Channel +/- and Volume keys. Any other key press does nothing.

When pressing the Info key I am again presented with the Parental Control code setup screen. I tried followign the setup instructions, thinking that I could disable the lock but that does not clear the problem. Once entering the code and getting back to my programming, the cable box is still locked.

I tried using another remote from another TV in the house and it is the same.

    DB:3.03:Motorola Dcx3400 Mysteriously Locked kx

That usually means there's no guide software loaded on the box at all. While you were at work it must of downloaded the guide software.

Normally this software is always already preloaded on the box. Even after power cycling you can still bring up a guide, although "To be Announced" until the data loads. But without the software there is no menu system at all. All you get is a very bare bones featureless box based solely on the underlying Motorola firmware.

Why did your box do this? Perhaps a firmware update was pushed overnight, and for some reason your box did not fully download this firmware. This left it in a confused state. Glad to see it resolve itself!

DB:3.03:Vod: Persistent Error 7 On New Dcx3400 Dvr jx

    Hello,

I've read through the FAQ and several of the threads in this forum which have been very helpful with other issues but after trying everything, I have been unable to get rid of my Error 7 when attempting to access VOD on my new DCX3400 DVR.

    Here is my situation:

I have had the same DVR box for the last few years, it was a Motorola DCT 6412. It recently broke (stopped powering up) so I exchanged it yesterday at my local Comcast store for a Motorola DCX3400-M.

I had a few hiccups during installation yesterday, such as my premium channels not coming in, and several calls to Comcast tech support fixed that by sending a validation and initialization hit. There was also an issue with my MAC and emac information missing so I called a few more times and finally found a tech support person to fix that too. Side note - often times the rep on the phone will not even try to help me with my problem and will simply suggest to make an appointment with a technician. I hang up and call back and hope that I get someone new who actually has an interest in helping me. I would say 1 time out of 6 I will get someone on the phone who attempts to be helpful. I refuse to go on a tirade here about poor customer service, I know the admins on this board have nothing to do with comcast's deficiencies. My tactic is to just keep trying until I get someone who has a clue.

It has been almost 24 hours and I still do not have VOD. I have never had a problem accessing VOD before. I live in San Francisco and I am not aware of any outages and when I called tech support this morning, I did not hear an outgoing message saying there were any issues in my area. My cable is plugged directly into the DVR. The DVR is plugged directly into the TV.I have only one tv and one DVR box. I do not have any splitters. My tv does not get HD so I do not watch HD channels. I have 3 premium channels.

Again, let me stress that I never had VOD issues or loose connection issues with my DCT 6412. At the moment, my guide is slowly repopulating itself (it has been 30 minutes and most everything is still "To Be Announced" and the menu only extends to 2 hours past the current time. I am hoping the menu will sort itself out over the next few hours. If most of the guide still says "To Be Announced" by this time tomorrow morning, should i be concerned?

I ran diagnostics and checked "interactive status." My IP address is blank and the status is "wait_so_ack." I understand that this could indicate a signal issue but my signal was totally fine yesterday prior to my DCT 6412 box dying. My cable connection is firmly attached to my new DCX3400 DVR. I double checked that 3 times. I also power cycled (rebooted) my DCX3400 twice following the advice I read on this forum, hoping that the IP address would show up afterward but that did not work. I called Comcast and their phone tech support person (Sonya?) told me that she would send a signal to my box that would clear up any error messages and would fix my VOD and also my slow-loading guide information. The box shut down and restarted as expected when she sent the signal, but it did not change my error 7 and the guide is still taking forever to download show title information. I have doubts that the problem is with my outside connection or my cables and cords indoors as I have not moved or changed anything other than swap out the box. From what I have read in this forum, having a technician sent out could likely be a waste of time and I really do not want to have to take time off of work (unpaid!) for a technician who cannot guarantee a fix. I would like to pursue troubleshooting this on my own as far as possible. Please let me know if any diagnostic information would be helpful for me to post and I will do that.

Is the Error 7 and lack of VOD due to the missing IP address?

How can I get an IP address to be pushed to my box once and for all?

Except for VOD, my DCX3400 works perfectly and appears to be brand new. Do I need to swap it out again?

Please advise! Thank you for your attention on this and I hope you can offer me some kind of solution. Since I have been unable to talk to anyone other than front line support on the phone, if you are able to forward my issue on to someone with more technical expertise at Comcast, that would be great.

While watching a previously recorded show a button on the remote was accidentaly pressed (by error so we don't know which one) there was s brief message that appeared on the screen on the TV indicating some kind of conflict but we were unable to write it down before it disappeared. Now the remote does not control the DVR. I tried following the instructons on the back of the remote and even checked www.arcsupport.com but no luck.

    Any diections or suggestions?

I recently switched from an antiquated dvr and picked up the new HD DVR Motorola 3400 from my Elkton, MD COMCAST office. The problem is the channel guide will not load beyond 5 hours of programming for the current day (all boxes then say "to be announced") I have had a regular service man now a special tech look at the problem and no resolution yet. To date, two new dvr's have been tried, the cables have been replaced and all power other settings are satisfactory. Any suggestions?

No splitters, both co-axial 5 colored wires to dvr replaced by first repairman. Tech guy even hooked up another new dvr. I say its a system problem on the level of a filter or code they have not addressed.

    Hi everyone,

?? You can use all of the OUTPUTS at the same time, as long as you don't mind seeing the same thing on all devices. I use the composite output, through an RF modulator that 'merges' with the raw RF, to add a channel for use in a remote room.

That said, it won't be long before analog outputs could be disabled for certain shows.

DB:3.01:Iphone App To Motorola Dcx3400 Dvr Box Doesn't Work 11

Despite Comcast claiming the Motorola DCX3400 box works with the new iphone app. It doesn't. At least not as of 12/11.2010. I tried several times a week ago. Then tried yesterday. You can get the listings and you can even set it to record, but it won't work as a remote despite recognizing the TV and box. Via chat I got a "special" direct phone number to call in. The person responding said yes this was a known problem, several others had called in.

So I wanted to warn other DCX3400 DVR box users that it isn't them or their setup. Its buggy software on Comcast's end.

I have no idea when it will be fixed, but it is very bad service for Comcast not put out a warning to unsuspecting customers with this box as this is a known bug/issue.

Worse, when the woman was typing up a bug ticket for me she said they would reset my email password to submit the ticket to the technician. Now what the heck is this about? I told her forget it. I'll just try later and complain loudly elsewhere. Why on earth would they mess around with my email password to simply submit a bug with their software? Bad service, bad adveristing. Customer beware.

I have a Motorola DCH3416 that replaced a DCX3400 DVR that went bad. Comcast replaced the remote and I when I got home and install the DVR, I unlocked the volume control for Cable (Setup, 9-9-3, Vol-) but the actual volume does not change even though the bars on the TV screen increase or decrease when using the volume button (mute button does work). The volume control on my last DVR did work properly, but the Comcast technician set it up so I don't know what he did on the remote to make it work. I had this problem before with another DVR when I first got my plasma TV, and I had always assumed that the DVR volume control didn't work with HDMI. Now I know there is a way to turn it on. Does anyone know what I need to program into the remote to get the DVR volume to work?

    DB:3.00:Dvr Volume Control 87

See this. Locking means the volume control is always directed at the same device (e.g., TV) without first having to push the button to select that device. The remote should come with it unlocked, which means the signal goes to whichever device was last selected.

    So here is my setup,

Blu-Ray player (HDMI 2) Toshiba HDTV (TV Optical Out) Insignia Soundbar

Audio and Video signals reach the TV successfully and if I use the TV speakers I have sound. While I'm on HDMI 2 (the blu-ray player) the soundbar receives the optical signal successfully, however while I'm on HDMI 1 (the Comcast DVR) the soundbar doesn't produce any sound.

If I switch back to the Blu-Ray player I have sound, swith to the DVR no sound.

I went through the DVR audio setup and didn't see anything amiss.

Can anyone shed some light on my pain.

DB:3.00:Motorola Dcx3400 Hdmi Sound Problems ka

right the tv is getting the audio from the hdmi cable. You are running an optical cable out of the tv, I have not seen a tv with an optical audio out from it. the dvr is not working for audio because you have it from the tv to the sound bar like you posted earlier if I read that right. So if you look at the back of the cable box there is a little door there for the optical out, do you see it lite up in red? that would indicate that your box is working for the optical out. You can also use the red and white rca outputs to go to the bar.

If I were you heres what I would do. Run the red and white composite cables for sound from the box to the bar, run an optical audio cable from the dvd to the bar, That should be fine. You would want the best sound when watching a nice 1080p movie from the blue ray in my opinon. also what do you have have the audio settings set to in the box menu?

i have the ComCast cable attached to the CABLE IN RF connector on the back of the Moto DVR. an HDMI cable connects the DVR to the TV. i'm trying to add the Panasonic combo unit so i can record an additional program. here's how i have connected the combo unit:

the ComCast system we're in requires every device to have a set top box. as i mentioned the ComCast cable is connected to the Cable In RF connector on the rear of the Moto DVR. but there is also a Cable Out RF connector on the rear panel of the Moto DVR. i have attached a cable between that connector and the RF IN connector on the Panasonic combo unit. i switched the Pana unit source to CABLE and scanned for channels. when i tune the Pana unit to channel 3 i can see all of the ComCast channels but there is no sound. video is good but no audio. i've tried adding audio cables between the Moto audio out jacks and the Pana audio in jacks but still no sound.

any ideas on how to solve this problem?

yes, we're encrypted. if i attach the TV directly to the wall jack i get nothing, nada, zip other than the banner warninbg that the channel i'm viewing needs a set top box. i needa set top box to get a picture.

yes, i've run audio cables between the Moto DVR and the Panasonic combo...both ways in terms of audio in and out. still no sound.

played with the DVR sound settings via menu before i posted the query. i've also played with the sound options on the combo unit to no avail.

gonna try disconnecting the HDMI cable between the DVR and tv to see what happens. if the DVR supports only one output port that should produce sound on the Panasonic combo unit.

    Thanks for reportingthis observation.

I have been in contact with our national and local engineering teams who are reviewing this. We don't initially believethat what you are experiencingis related to the 4:1 HD QAM that telcodad raised in his post above.

As with a few posts above from a Portland area customer, we initially believe that there are some local configuration changes that can be made at the headend in your area that will improve the overall experience.

Are you having this experience on the Motorola DCH 3416 DVR and/or the Motorola DCT 700?

Thanks forposting here and forhelping us to identify the issues so we can make the necessary modifications.

At your convenience, can you reboot yourbox and let us know if the experienceis improved? Thanks for your assistance.

Let me expand on my recent previous posting regarding the issues still affecting my DCX3400-M following the implementation of the A31 Release:

    1. Immediately after the A31 software was downloaded several months ago, the pause button on my remote will "sometimes" pause initially for a fraction of a second and then immediately restart playing again for a full second on its own before finally pausing for good as intended. This is still happening on my 5 year-old DCX3400-M host DVR (both during live mode and also during playback mode). This also happens when testing with my spare remote unit. It is somewhat frustrating because I usually hit pause as I'm leaving the room to grab a snack or a beverage and then hear the unit restart on its own and have to back step to reach for the pause again, but by the time I've back stepped to the remote, the picture reverts to pause (if you get my drift). Again this never happened with the older A30 software.

    2. The play key (forward arrow) previously would momentarily display the the status of the show on the screen "without" stopping the the live or recorded playback with the older A30 software. After the A31 download, that action now exactly mimics the "pause" key located directly below that forward arrow key, i.e. it essentially pauses the show after the new A31 was implemented. Sadly at present there is no way quickly to check the playing status (live or recorded) without pausing the show with the new A31 software on the DCX3400-M.

The remote unit is the original style that came with the DCX3400-M units.

Not sure what you are looking for, you pretty much get what the tech or warehouse has in stock, and pray you get a newer model, and not some old clunker.

Try and request a HDMI box if your getting HD, even if you don't need it yet.

If you on a Motorola system, you'll ether get a old refurb box like a DCT6200 which is DVI, a new DCX3200 or a Pace RNG110 if your not getting a DVR which are HDMI.

DB:2.98:Starzhd Recording Truncated Or Blank Dvr Recordings ks

Not sure if this is the right place for this question. If not, please advise where I should ask...thanks.

We have a Motorola DCX3400 box connected via HDMI to a HD Sony tv. We receive all channels we subscribe to clearly, and except for StarzHD, everything we record (lots of stuff) is fine. In the past month, we have found that programs recorded from StarzHD are either blank (counter stays at zero and will not move, screen shows program on channel currently being watched, not recording) OR the recorded program starts without problems, shows the proper recorded time on the progress bar, but then at 48 minutes, the recording freezes and the counter shows 49 minutes.

This does not happen on any other HD channel, and is not at any special time of day, etc.

StarzHD On Demand is fine. We can watch StarzHD live. And every recording which is truncated ends at 48 minutes, when it is supposed to be a movie of usually almost 2 hours.

Have re-booted the box by unplugging and repopulating the quide. Still a problem.

Do NOT want to have Comcast replace the box or wipe it clean with a major re-boot, since we would lose dozens of movies we have recorded from TCM and other non-HD channels. Space is not an issue, we are only at 35% or so of available space.

Help! I hesitate to contact Comcast tech support as they will only either 1) swap the box aor 2) wipe it to a brand new clean disk. This box is only 3-4 months old when we replaced a 3416 which, as it turned out, was not having any problems since the reason we swapped persisted with the new box, and Comcast finally resolved it at the head end. If this were happening on other HD channels, I would figure it was the box, but seeing as it is only StarzHD (regular Starz channels record fine) it seems it has to be something in the feed or guide info for that channel which is truncating the recordings. After all, having them all end at 48 minutes despite the movie length certainly does not seem a box function!

If anyone has any thoughts, thank you!!

Since your Sony Home theater system outputs the sound to the speakers directly for DVD there is no settings necessary for audio from the KDL40EX400. for TV or from your cable box you will need to enter your speaker settings and change from TV speakers to Audio System.

I havethe latest DVR from my Comcast provider the DCX3400 and every time I turn off my HDTV I get a DUI aka DVI error and I have to unplug the DVR to get it to work again. I have hooked it up to both My 26" Vizio and my 42" LG via HDMI cables. So Basically anytime I want to turn off my TV I have to reset my DVR and if something records with the TV off then it also causes it to freeze up. I contacted customer support but they told me there was nothing they could do and to use composite cables with this model not HDMI. What is the point of HDTV and HDMI if the latest product causes it to fail?

Does anyone have any idea how I can use my DVR with my HDMI cable and not leave my TV turned on 24/7?

DB:2.95:Motorola Dcx3400 Dvi Error When Tv Turned Off. ak

Have you tried swapping out the box for a new one?

I get the DVI error as well (even though DUI is more fitting) with any of my flat panel displays (LG 55LM7600, Olevia 537-B11, Asus VS238H with both HDMI and DVI, and some older Sceptre monitor with DVI). I also have a Onkyo TX-NR717 AVR in the mix. Also attached via HDMI to the AVR is an AppleTV 2 (720p) and a Windows 7 computer using a HDCP-compliant GeForce video card.

I can configure the setup almost any way I'd like to (DVR directly to displays, DVR through receiver to displays, DVR through receiver to any two displays) and I'll get a DVI error when turning off a display or the receiver. It's particularly bad when I use the receiver's HDMI pass-through mode, since I'll get the DVI error powering the AVR on or off.

I've tried different HDMI cables and no luck. My particular DVR just likes to DVI on me at power off of anything else in the chain.

The biggest difference for me, however is that my DVR doesn't lock up. It's more or less just an annoyance at this point. I'm planning on adding the "anyroom" DVR soon, but in the mean time I'm sticking with the DCX-3400 since it's working.

Note that the Windows 7 computer doesn't give me issues at all, and the AppleTV box only gave me problems with the Olevia (occasional digital snow, which is an HDCP handshake thing).

If you're close to an office, just swap the box out. If you're not close to an office, tell them you're also getting shows stopping for no reason, even on component video cables, and you'd like a tech to swap the box out.

They have offered to send a tech out to the house but I am trying to avoid this if possible because of time contraints.

Any clues on how to resolve this issue would be much appreciated.

comcast only outputs 1080i so the box is irrelevant no matter what your getting 1080i thats why hdmi vs component doesnt even come into play. Yes the older motorola boxes work fine the newer ones have issues, so go with the older one the only difference is the hard drive size the software is the same no matter what.

DB:2.95:Comcast Dvr Hard Drive Is Tiny. Should I Go To Tivo? 17

I've lived with this 160 gb hd on my motorola dvr/cable box for years. Comcast says it is what it is. I say it's time to consider Tivo and dumping this comcast dvr just for the space. You can't upgrade the hard drive. You can't use the ethernet port or the usb port. Come on Comcast it's 2008 and disc space is dirt cheap. What is the problem? Has anyone had any luck either upgrading their dvr to a larger capacity or getting Comcast marketing to understand the problem?

I live in Denver. Since my brother went to bama I have to pull for them against Florida. I'd like to see Alabama win it all this year but I have a suspicion that Florida might just kill them. War Eagle

I currently have the DCH3416 DVR, and have been really happy with it. However, today we had the phone installed, and the installer mentioned that they have a new DVR the DCX3400 out, that has more hard drive space.

My question is is however, is it worth the upgrade from what I have yet? I understand that more HD space would be wonderful, but with it being relatively new to Comcast, I wasn't sure if it had bugs and so forth?

Also, I've been told that the only way to get it, is to have a tech bring one to me, which doesn't really make me too happy. I would have to pay another $24.95 fee to have one brought out, however would I have known they existed, I would have just set one up to be brought with the phone install to avoid the double charge.

So what are your opinions for those who may/may not have one?

Edit: I just read about some sort of HDMI issue?

That's true, I was referring to the external CableCard option that most people think of when they hear that term being used (to eliminate the need for a box). Your issues were with the internal DCX card in hindsight that's also probably what WE was referring to...

Anyone notice that the resolution on this was only 720p? I had this on my two Comcast HD boxes - one Motorola DCX3400 DVR and a Pace RNG110. The Motorola actually has a front panel display of resolution and it confirmed 720p. I checked all other received HD channels and most were 1080i unless showing reruns. Calling customer service was futile - person said no other complaints were logged and offered to reset boxes which made no difference. Could Fox actually have been originating a national broadcast in this resolution which looked quite inferior on a 60 inch screen?

What box do you have? My Moto 6416 iii will not allow a native output which is extremely frustrating.

Currently we have a Motorola DCT 3412 DVR, with no triple play, just HDTV and Performance Internet. I would like to upgrade the STB to a DCX3400 or DCX3501-M. Can I call my local Comcast office and ask them if they carry any of these STB's, or is it just the luck of the draw to swap my old one out? Is there a difference in DVR fees if I upgrade the box? I have three(3) set top boxes and have problem with one. The one I have problem with, is the one in my living room. Every time I turn the tv on, the set top box defaults to 720p; the other two boxes do not do this.

I had alive chat with a Comcast csr about this and at the end I was even more confused. The csr said something to the effect "the box is most likely not hdmi enabled" UH?. If I ordered services for 3 HD with

DVR boxes, why would they send me a box that is not HDMI enabled?

If any one out there can explain this to me as if I was a 5 years old, it will immensely appreciated.

Most of the boxes have no way to control the brightness of the display. Some people put tape over it to tone it down/frosted effect.

Does Comcast have any plans to upgrade their DVR equipment? I'm using the MOTOROLA DCX3400 which I have replaced 3 times in the last 6 mo. Also do they have any that can record more than 2 programs at a time?

Does anyone know when this will be rolled out?

There also appears to be a new Pace cable box in testing that has a quad-turner HD DVR, that will run the Spectrum software:

DB:2.94:Thinking About Signing Up For X1. sc

I have heard that sometime next wekk X1 is supposed to be available in my area.

I currently have a DCX3400 HD DVR which is setup using the HD Native pass thru.

Some of the pro's I have heard about X1 which would make it better then my DCX3400:

4 Tuners, Larger Hardrive, better Guide

I have also heard some Con's when compared to my DCX3400:

3400 allows Pass thru of the HD signal, (not sure if the X1 allows this), 3400 Remote has the B-C day +/- buttons (have heard X1 doesn't have this feature), TV tuner input swapping (X1 not), 30 second skip ahead (X1 remote can be setup for this).

Not sure if I am missing anything else, was also wondering if the HD picture Quality is different between the DCX3400 and X1....I am pretty pleased with the HD picture I am getting with my 3400.

Other then the 2 additional tuners...... and larger Hardrive it looks like I would loose some pretty good features buy changing to the X1 HD DVR...... am I missing anything???

I'm interested in hearing from those who changed from there older Comcast HD DVR to the X1 DVR and what they think about the change?

    Thanks.

I'd like to know which markets have "LOTS".

Getting an honest answer in my market is impossible, never mind adressing equipment.
