When I got Directv I got one HD DVR, one HD receiver, and one SD receiver. I have a slimline 5 antenna and there are 4 RG6 cables coming into the house from the ground block outside. I don't see an SWM inside the house at all. Two cables go to the HD DVR, one cable goes to the HD receiver and one to the SD receiver. I have now replaced the SD receiver with another HD DVR, so I have to split the signal to get two wires to the new HD DVR and one to the old HD receiver (keeping the wires that were connected to the original HD DVR connected). I bought a Radio Shack 4-way multi-switch (16-2571) but it doesn't seem to be working. Is this not an SWM? If not, do I need to get an SWM8 or will a SWM4 work for my situation?

Basically, I want to remove the old dish but I'm not sure if I need it for the non-HD receiver. I asked the tech. last night and he indicated that I would need a multi-switch but other info. I have found online suggests that I should be able to run multiple receivers (HD/non-HD?) from the new dish.

I just recently had installed 4 receivers - 1 HMC and 3 HD Receivers. Three of the four receivers all sit in my basement within the same cabinet as my house is wired that way. The individual remote controllers currently send signals to all three units, even though the intention is for each to control only one receiver.

Currently, the installers only had IR remotes (standard that came with the receivers). They are returning to replace with RF remotes.

Regardless of IR or RF, is there a setting to make each remote unique to its specific receiver so that it's signal controls only one receiver? If so, how do I make the necessary changes?

Due to the nature of the installation, I would prefer to have IR control with the ability to assign an address to each receiver. Please offer any suggestions. Thanks.

I currently have 2 HR23/700 DVR, both with RF remote activated. I will be adding at least 5 more HD receivers/DVR's to the mix. If I install a RF remote extender (so that the receivers do not have to be in the rooms with the TV's), and have all of the receivers in the same closet, will I need to worry about the remotes changing the wrong receiver? Or are the RF remotes "married" to their respective receiver for DTV functions?

    Any other ideas?

Yes. Sunday's first day of NFL Sunday Ticket was a disaster for customers with HD Receivers. I recently had 2 HD DVR Receivers (HR-24) installed, then afterwards installed the Internet connection kit from Directtv. Both receivers use SWM connection. On the receiver where the home connection kit is connected (wireless connection, then connected to the receiver through the SWM), media share seems to be working OK (I'm playing with TVersity and other things for video, but music, photos is OK). On the 2nd receiver, I can 'see' the same remote devices from the Media Share window, including folder names, and file names, but photos don't show, music doesn't play, videos don't play. Is there some further setup i need to make this work on the 2nd receiver? Since i see the remote devices, folders, files, I was assuming this should just work (and as mentioned, these things do work on the other reciever that is connected directly to the internet connection kit). Thanks for any advice.

All receivers work fine on other HD TVs. PS3 also works fine on TV. It seems to be only the DBS (again DirecTV) signal that is freezing. Menu will work on receivers, but once picture freezes no picture will tune on the TV

I am by no means an expert on this subject, but could the TV be having a problem processing the DBS signal?

I own a Kameleon 8 in1 Model # 1238 remote. I have the SAT Code 1333 installed and it currently is working with my D12 receivers. I will be getting DVR service this Tuesday. Does SAT code work with r15, r16, r22? Is the IR for standard receivers the same as the standard DVR or does SAT Code 1333 cover multiple receivers? I had asked a similar question last week regarding HDDVR models. They can't give me HD service due to limitation of the satellite dish. I will be getting just DVR service. I see that the capacity is 100 hrs of recording. Is this expandable?Any feed back on the reliability of DVR receivers will be appreciated.

I have 3 HD-DVR receivers (HR-20, HR-21, HR-23) on 3 HD TVs. On the HR-20 I get all the channels in my package including ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, CNN. On the other 2 receivers I don't receive these specific channels and get the 771 error. All the other HD channels work fine. I've done multiple repeat SAT set-ups (Slimline 5), re-authenticates, new cables, new B-band converters, etc without effect. The signal strengths appear to be consistent across the 3 receivers. Any ideas?

DB:3.29:771 Errors On Specific Channels mp

You cannot feed both HR20 SAT INPUTs with one dish/multiswitch cable split to both SAT INPUTs. That splitter is messing up your entire system. Each DVR tuner MUST have its own coax cable from your Zinwell WB68 multiswitch. And each Receiver/DVR (except the HR23) must also have B-Band Converter modules attached to the SAT INPUTs to properly receive HD channels.

No, there is no way to transfer recordings from DVR to DVR. If you upgrade or replace your receiver, your recordings will be gone, unless you copy them to a VCR or DVD. Of course this must be done in real time and it wont be on HD.

    DB:3.28:Whole Home Dvr Explanation. jj

Ok, I just had WHDVR installed and thought I understood what it would do, but I would really like to see a comets explanation for me and others. Here is my basic issue. I was told you could record two shows, while watching two shows per DVR. I had two DVRs installed, along with two HD receivers. I expected to be able to watch shows on both receivers from one DVR as long as I wasn't watching something recorded on that DVR. I find that I can only access one show at a time if I am not using the DVR that the show is resident on. Can someone explain the full capabilities and limitations of the system with single DVR, multiple DVR and multiple receivers?

    DB:3.28:Whole Home Dvr Explanation. jj

One DVR can play back two programs at a time but one of the two must be played back on the DVR itself. In other words, a DVR can not stream a program to two remote receivers at the same time. Basically a single DVR can record two programs at once while playing back a recording locally and a recording to a remote receiver, plus download an OnDemand (Cinemaplus) selection.

The limit of one remote stream per DVR is noted on the DirecTV web pages and advertisements, but a lot of people miss seeing it.

In some cases moving the DVR(s) to another location is a satisfactory workaround for the single stream problem.

Consequently I had to split the kitchen TV off the bedroom receiver. Is there a way to do this that they haven't told me about?2. Even that would be OK except for problem two that no one told me about when I bought and installed the HD receiver: there is a long delay between the HD receiver broadcast and the standard receiver broadcast. Consequently, I cannot watch the same show in kitchen as in living room because of the delay - and there is a pass through window between the kitchen and the living room. On NFL days - it is really crazy - because all the TV's are generally tuned to the same channel - and the HD TV in the living room is always a couple of minutes ahead of the other TVs.Customer service said if I want all my TVs to be in unison (which I dont think is asking too much considering I pay for 3 receivers), I have to buy more HD receivers at $300 each. Considering none of the other 3 TVs are HD TVs, it seems kind of crazy to spend $900 for 3 more HD receivers. We have the HR34-700 HMC and 4 H25-500 HD Receivers BUT, THE iPad App only sees 3of the 4 HD receivers.

All receivers are on the network and Home Sharing has been enabled on all 4. We can play recorded shows from all four and all four are working great just not all visible on the iPad app.

I am trying this at home on the same network and I can see the other 3 receivers, control them and see what is being watched on them.

We have reset the missing receiver several times, reset the network settings on both the missing receiver and the HMC multiple times but, all to no avail..

    Any ideas???

    Rhino, I have addedthefollowing

there is a "fix" but only works if you have more than one receiver on the account. the fix is to call DirecTV and have them de-activate theaffectedreceiver, if this receiver is the primary, haveDirecTV set another receiver as the primary. once the receiver has been de-activated, have DirecTV activate the receiver back again. this should force theappropriatesystems to "sync" and now the receiver should show inside the app

I am not aware if this has any effect on rebates or if having multiple receivers helps. I will find out tomorrow.

Without having to disconnect and reconnect to the receiver you want to use at the current moment you would need one independent line for each receiver. You never want to split the wire between the dish and the receiver as it will negatively effect the operation of one or both receivers. DirecTV came out last week and setup my network connection and On Demand. I have 2 DVR's and 2 Receivers. All HD. Two days ago my internet did a hickup and I lost all On Demand. I have gotten On Demand back on my DVR's. They show up on menu bar. However, even though the 2 receivers show and internet connection the On Demand is not on the menu bar. I have done the Network setup multiple times with no results. I also have checked to make sure the "Share" command is showing on the setup. Am I missing something or is there something else that i need to do.

    Sorry for multiple questions.

I have a wireless PLK300 adapter and it was connected this way: The Powerline is connected via Ethernet to the DECA which is powered by the PS18DER0-03 and connected via the coax cable to the SWM. Both my HD DVR and HD receiver are sharing the Media Share, Play list as for ON Demandit's download onto the playlistby HD DVRand theHD receiver can view this download without any problems. Currently, I don't use DirecTV2PC. Everything is working great and I am enjoying.

Since i use multiple receivers i can't make this sceanrio as synchronous one. But i want to know the generated SO number. Is there any way to get this? Or should i use BPM?

Sync scenarios work only with a single receiver. In order to use multiple receivers in a sync scenario use BPM.

    Here's my setup first.

I am using an SL3 SWM with a SWS4WB splitter. I have 3 HD DVR receivers. Specifically they are the HR23-700, HR21-100, and the HR20-700. The PI 21 power inserter is used with the HR23 receiver.

The HR23 receives all HD and SD channels without a problem. However, both the HR21 and the HR20 only receive SD channels. Anytime that I select an HD channel on either the HR21 or the HR20, I get the Searching for satellite - 771 error. The other unusual thing is that both the HR20 and the HR21 show the HD channels in different locations than the HR23. For example, they will show some of them as being located in channels ranging from the 70's through the 90's, while the HR23 shows no channels in that range. Also , neither the HR20 or the HR21 even show local HD channels.

I have reset all units multiple times, ensured that the PI power was applied before restarting the receivers, and still no luck.

I have also manually completed a satellite setup and all receivers show the SL3 SWM. They all essentially show the same signal strength with the lowest readings on the 103 satellite in the low to mid 70's. Interestingly, I have also completed a system test on all three units and they all come back with the same results indicating that my dish may be blocked or may need repositioning. Despite that, the HR23 works and the other two receivers do not.

    I'm fresh out of ideas.

Anyone have any other things I might try?

    Mike.

DB:3.14:771 Error With 0 Signal Strength And No Tuner Acquired ka

Got a 771 error on all receivers (2-month old SWM system. Both HD receivers, one of the DVR) starting yesterday. Went through all the troubleshooting steps I've seen online and heard on the phone to no avail. Thought I'd try and see if anyone else had a potential fix since the earliest service appointment I can get is week away (despite being a service plan customer...)

Some other details of the setup:

    - Was working fine on July 13th, then no signal/771 error on the 14th. No weather in the area in that time and no changes to the system. Dish is on top of a 2 story garage, so misalignment seems unlikely. No new trees/structures in the way.

    - I get 0 signal strength on all satellites and transponders on both receivers.

    - I also show "no tuner acquired" on both receivers. It's like it doesn't see the dish/LNB at all.

    - SWM system with 2 HD receivers, one of the a DVR

    - Have checked and reconnected all coax connections and nothing seems loose, wet or problematic.

    - Have unplugged/replugged the SWM power inserter multiple times

    - Have reset and power cycled the receivers multiple times

    - Have bypassed the splitter that's after the power inserter, going direct to a receiver, to rule that out--still the 771 error.

If anyone has any ideas of the problem or other solutions I could try, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.

The H20 H21 are receivers, the current DVR numbers are HR20 and HR21. Directv is having these built by a few different manufacturers, the numbers following the model number signifies which. There are no other DVR's available that will work with Directv HD. There may be a stand alone Tivo model that will pick a signal from the H21 but it would be restricted to one recorder and seems to me to be a bulky way to accompolish a DVR's function.
