    Hi,
    how do i create an overnight back up job and restore job, to backup sever A and restore it to sever B in an overnight job, i know how to create backup jobs but what i havent being able to figure out is creating a job that backs up a database and at
    the same timerestores it into another sever, can you help me out pls?biroma

    DB:3.75:Backup And Restore fz

    The syntax is exactly the same, you just have to specify the UNC path to the backup for the DISK= option like

    RESTORE DATABASE [MarketingEvents]
    FROM DISK='\\RemoteServerName\ShareName\marketingevents_backup.bak'
    WITH FILE=1, NOUNLOAD, STATS=10
    GO

    This has been how all of my backups and restores have been done for the last 6 years.Jonathan Kehayias | Senior Consultant,

    Hi experts,

    this is 10.2.0.4 on the Windows platform

    I have a simple little job that has Job Type: RMAN Script

    Backup Database plus archivelog;

    I have installed UTL_MAIL.

    How can I have Oracle send an email to me when the job fails?

    ( This is not a Scheduler job though it runs on a schedule. I used the Database Control gui to create it.)

    Thanks. John

    DB:3.59:Can't View Or Edit A Backup Job Created From The Schedule Backup Page In Em 79

    Using EM Database Control with a 10.2.0.2.0 database I create a backup job using the "Schedule Customized Backup" option on the Schedule Backup page. The job submits successfully but I can't seem to find a way to subsequently view the RMAN Script associated with the job.

    If I select the job on the "Job Activity" page and try to edit it I get the message "Error. Edit is not supported for this job type, only general information about the job can be updated."

    How do I view / edit the RMAN Script once it has been created? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Gavin Rayner

    DB:3.59:Can't View Or Edit A Backup Job Created From The Schedule Backup Page In Em 79

    That is correct, once you've scheduled a job, you can't Edit it. But when you are submitting the job, you get to look at the RMAN script at the end. You can then look at the script and modify it if required.

    if I want to run this from a job in windows, how do i set it so that it logs in?

    I need to set a "channel" to tell RMAN where to write the backup correct?

    # Shutdown database for backups and put into MOUNT mode
    shutdown immediate
    startup mount
    # Allocate channel. Important: This must be done after

    # Open database after backup complete
    sql 'alter database open';
    backup current controlfile;
    sql 'ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE';
    release channel t1;
    }

    DB:3.55:Rman 10.2 On Windows Cold Backup 91

    Hi..

    Channel is a connection between RMAN and a database instance. Each connection initiates an database server session on the target or auxiliary instance: this server session performs the work of backing up, restoring, or recovering RMAN backups.

    To run it as a task, you can use RMAN CATALOG, or even you can make a batch file as mentioned by the Centinul.

    DB:3.33:Rac Backup Procedure Failover fa

    We have Oracle 11gR2 RAC database on two nodes. We also have a RMAN backup script that works fine, using a recovery catalog database which is located in a town 20km from the data center. The script for database backup works fine, and is started from crontab Job or from Oracle dbconsole (for now it works from crontab). A recovery procedure is checked and everything is working properly.

    The problem is that the script runs from the first node in the cluster, and if the node is turned off, backup can't be run. How can we ensure that our script have a failover backup version. We also tried to do the backup over dbconsole but this only works if the node from which to start job was started.

    Essentially the question is "How to ensure that our backup works, whether or not both nodes are active"

    DB:3.33:Rac Backup Procedure Failover fa

    Thanks Levi, that was extremely useful. The solution is quite simple and obvious.
    We are considering the possibility to install a virtual server from which we can control other jobs similar in nature. And maybe some failover solution for it.

    Thanks again

    Hi:
    We have aSQL 2012 server hosting a DB roughly 5.5Gb in size, the Database in Full Recovery mode and have two maintenance plans. One for Database Full Backups and one for backups of the Transaction log. We noticed that our Trans Log had
    grown to 80Gb and we are puzzled as to why. It was our understanding that the trans log file gets truncated upon a successful trans log backup.
    Here is how we have the maintenance plans setup, please let me know if I have something setup incorrectly:
    Database Backup Plan:

    -DatabaseName
    - Model
    - Master

    - Create a backup file for every database
    - Create a sub-directory for each database is checked
    - Folder = B:\ SQL Database Backups
    - Backup file extension = bak
    - Verify Backup Integrity is checked
    - Use the default server setting
    5. History Cleanup Task
    - Backup and Restore History is checked
    - SQL Server Agent Job History is checked
    - Maintenance Plan History is checked

    - Remove Historical data older than: 1 week

    DB:3.33:Sql Database Log Isnt Truncating After Successful Full Backup 9p

    After log backup some transaction log records become inactive / reusable unless you used COPY_ONLY or NO_TRUNCATE option. Log virtual file truncated once all records of that file become inactive.

    So check if your maintenance plan is using these options. You can enable sql profiler and execute transaction log backup maintenance plan manually to capture actual backup query.

    Dear DBA's,

    I'm using 11g grid control, RDBMS - 11.2.0.2 on RHEL 5.0

    My current setup : I have 4 node RAC database running on (node1, node2, node3, node4). My RMAN backup job in EM runs from node1.

    Preferred setup : I need to modify this job or create a new one (whichever is feasible) so that my backup job runs from (node3 or node4) instead of node1.

    Can you kindly suggest How can I modify the setup to meet my requirement?

    Thanks

    DB:3.30:Oem 11g Grid Control - Question cp

    I made these changes in the RMAN script (In OEM JOB Parameters) and still see backup running from node1.

    I have recreated jobs (Changed ownership of these jobs from SYMAN to a different ID, which was also part of my task) and during Job creation, while adding targets (I chose target type as Database instance of node4 instead of Cluster database) This fulfilled my request. Thanks again for your reply.

    The Job was invoked by Schedule 8 (Nightly UnityDb Backup Schedule).

    The last step to run was step 1 (DifferentialUnityDbBackup).

    I then checked the Job History and found this for step 1 of the Job::

    (DifferentialUNityDBBackup):

    I then checked further and found that there are no Backup devices UnityDbDump and also ReportDBDump. I also checked what other steps are in the Job and found this:

    1 DifferentialUnityDbBackup

    2 BackupUnityDbLog

    3 DifferentialReportDbBackup

    4 BackupReportDbLog

    I was about to attempt to create the backup devices before I also realised that the ReportDb database is missing. I presume the Job would still fail If I did this. Any help as to how to resolve this would be appreciated.

    For Data Integrator, the job server information is saved in the repository. The job sever is called Dev01_job_server in Machine Dev01 with DB2 respositoryInstead of export/import the job, I cloned the repository database to another DB2 server, Dev02, and install a new Data integrator. Since it is new installation, I create a new job server called Dev02_job_server. The strange things happened that when I run DI job in Machine Dev01, I can see job log in Dev2's DI designer. it seems that they are clustering now. How can I remove the Dev01_job_server entry in the Dev02 Machine's repository??

    DB:3.30:Howto Remove The Old Job Server? 81

    I guess the official way would be to remove all server specific entries before cloning the repo. So remove the repo association in repo manager to empty the AL_MACHINE_INFO table etc.

    Hello all,

As Brian said you need to take a Full backup as the base and then take a T-log backup. You need to schedule that in such a way that Full backup occurs first and then t-log backups happen. While configuring maintenance plan as shown in the link you need to choose the option as Full and Transaction log backup in the Select maintenance plans tasks.If you still get any error pls post the exact message from the jobhistory.- Deepak

    I found this morning that a database backup ina server failed. So I ran a nightly full backup job to make a backup but it failed because there was not enough space. A colleague of mine went to a backup depository and deleted backups more than 2 days old and more to make enough space and the backup job is running currently. He justleft only one, the most recent backup. And I got a question how many days of backup should we keep? I guess it depends on the backup file size and the backup depository size. But I feel keeping only one day's of full backup looks dangerous. In DB2 world we kept many days of backup copies. Is there a rule regarding how many days of full back should be kept?

    I am working with 10g. My problem is that every time I create a job for a full backup the pro and postops run fine but the backup fails with the following reason:

    *Output Log

    *Unable to perform the backup because the database is closed.

    When I go to open the database with SQL*Plus, it states that the DB is already open by instance. Also, I cannot run any kind of incremental backup.

    DB:3.20:How To Schedule A Rman Backup Job Using Dbms_Scheduler. Will I See It In Oe ca

    Hi everyboby.

    I'd like to create a rman job to implement the incremental updated backup strategy. The job would be something like:

    RUN {
    RECOVER COPY OF DATABASE WITH TAG 'daily_incr_upd_bkp';
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 FOR RECOVER OF COPY WITH TAG 'daily_incr_upd_bkp'
    DATABASE;
    }

    I'd like to create this script and schedule it using dbms_scheduler. My question is:

    - If i create this job as a job run through dbms_scheduler, will i see it in the OEM web interface?.

    I have checked Note:336224.1 which tells you how to schedule a backup as a rman script in Database Control. However, one thing i dislike about this implemetation, is that if for some reason Database Control is down, the backup won't be run. I want to be sure that if my DB is up, the script would always run at the specified time. Another thing is that, as stated in note 336224.1, you can't really make changes in schedule of this job ( in rel1). One have to use the create like feature.

    Any help or advise is greatly appreciated ....!

    DB:3.19:Dbconsole Vs Rman Scripting For Dual Location Backup 7p

    Installed 11g R2 on SUSE Linux 11. Configured the ASM disk group +FRA for the backup area. This is what I try to do:

    Sunday: Full backup (level 0)
    Monday - Saturday: cumulative rolling incremental backup (level 1)

    So I went to the DBCONSOLE, and scheduled two jobs.

    JOB 1: FULL BACKUP level 0 to +FRA Weekly at 2:00 am

    JOB 2: Cumulative rolling incremental backup level 1 to +FRA Daily at 2:00 am

    The backup will go to the default +FRA ASM diskgroup. That is fine.

    But now, I want to make a FULL backup to a local drive (/test/backup/) at the same time when backup to the +FRA within ONE job.

    ( and I also want to make an cumulative rolling incremental backup to a local drive (/test/backup/) at the same time when backup to the +FRA within ONE job)

    It seems to me that the DBCONSOLE does not allow me to do it, that is, I need to create TWO jobs to achieve the goal (one job for backing up to +FRA and another for the /test/backup).

    Now, I may have to use the RMAN script directly, for instance, something like:

    BACKUP DEVICE TYPE DISK COPIES 2 DATABASE FORMAT '+FRA/%U','/test/backup/%U';

    But this script is for one-time backup only. Since (1) I want it be to done periodically (2) I scheduled it on DBCONSOLE, I need some help to complete this task, either via DBCONSOLE (preferred) or RMAN scripting.

    Thanks
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The following is the reference RMAN scripts which I copied from the jobs scheduled on the DBCONSOLE:

    For LEVEL 0 job, I clicked on the Show script link and this is what I got:

    $rman_script="backup incremental level 0 cumulative device type disk tag '%TAG' database;
    backup device type disk tag '%TAG' archivelog all not backed up delete all input;
    run {
    allocate channel oem_backup_disk1 type disk maxpiecesize 1000 G;
    backup tag '%TAG' current controlfile;
    release channel oem_backup_disk1;
    }
    ";
    br_save_agent_env();
    br_prebackup($l_db_connect_string, $l_is_cold_backup, $l_use_rcvcat, $l_db_10_or_higher, $l_backup_strategy, "TRUE");
    my $result = br_backup();
    exit($result);

    For LEVEL 1 job, I clicked on the Show script link and this is what I got:

    $rman_script="backup incremental level 1 cumulative device type disk tag '%TAG' database;
    recover copy of database;
    backup device type disk tag '%TAG' archivelog all not backed up;
    run {
    allocate channel oem_backup_disk1 type disk maxpiecesize 1000 G;
    backup tag '%TAG' current controlfile;
    release channel oem_backup_disk1;
    }
    ";
    br_save_agent_env();
    br_prebackup($l_db_connect_string, $l_is_cold_backup, $l_use_rcvcat, $l_db_10_or_higher, $l_backup_strategy, "TRUE");
    my $result = br_backup();
    exit($result);

    DB:3.19:Dbconsole Vs Rman Scripting For Dual Location Backup 7p

    Yes. But not one time. Instead for periodical backup such as FULL weekly and INCREMENT daily. I do not know how to write it in rman script. I did copy the current running rman scripts from the DBCONSOLE for JOB1 and JOB2. But do not know how to modify then to fit my situation. Those scripts copied down from the DBCONSOLE are for periodical backup, which were scheduled via the DBCONSOLE. But DBCONSOLE can not schedule the backup for duplicate copies.

    DB:3.13:Help a8

    If you are in Full Recovery and you are not taking routine, hourly/half hourly backups of your transaction log, and the only thing you are taking are Full Backups, then you should put your database into SIMPLE recovery.  Under Full Recovery, you should be making regular backups of the transaction log.  If your disk array crashes completely, you may not be able to recovery your tail log, and routine backups of the Transaction log reduce the data loss in the event of such a catastrophe.

    A Sample Use of Full Recovery would be:

    2:00am Full Backup
    3:00am Log Backup
    4:00am Log Backup
    5:00am Log Backup
    6:00am Differential Backup
    7:00am Log Backup
    8:00am Log Backup
    8:30am Database Crash

    In this scenario, you are guaranteed to recover at least to 8:00am's Log backup as long as you have archived them off local disk which you should be doing as a best practice.  You would require the following restores to recover:

    2:00am Full Backup
    6:00am Differential Backup
    7:00am Log Backup
    8:00am Log Backup

This job will backup the DB1 EDB file and also the transaction logs.Question1: When the backup job runs, does the act of running the backup job flush the logs? Or does the backup data actually contain the EDB file and the transaction logs that were generated since the last FULL backup. So, basically, should I expect to see log files in the backup?Question2: Once the backup job completes, I should still expect to see some logs, correct? Since the backup flushes only logs that have been COMMITTED to the db?br /%

    DB:3.12:Exchange Backup Question x3

    Hi,
    I think you should also make a test to find out the answer by yourself.
    1,create a new storage group and database, create a new mailbox located in the database.
    2,use eseutil /mk to check which log file the check point file point to .
    3,make a full backup using ntbackup
    4,go to log file to check which logs are removed.
    5,restore the database using ntbackup, choose the location of temp log files,don't choose the last restore set.
    6, go to temp log files directory, you can find the uncommitted transaction logs on there.Frank Wang

    DB:3.11:How To Identify Which Trace File Is Your Backup Controlfile Trace In Udump m7

    I thought it's

    alter database backup controlfile to trace as 'absolute path of any file where you want the control file in clear text format ';

    for ex. in Windows..

    alter database backup controlfile to trace as *'c:\temp\create_ORCL_control.sql'*;

    This way you will know where your job is going to backup controlfile to trace

    hi all,
    i need to create one backup and restore job in ssms in sql server 2008r2, however there is no restore task (ssis control flow item) in the maintenance plan task tool. now my question is i need to take the backup from the server 'A' databaseand
    need to restore that backup file into server 'B' Database , so for that i need to create one sql server job in the server 'B' ssms.

    please help me ....

    DB:3.10:How To Create The Job For Backup And Restore Operation On The Two Remote Server Using Ssms In Sql Server 2008r2 xj

    My guess is rights....you are not using express edition.
    You can use the things in below sequence :-
    Create job at Server A
    1. Backing up database at Server A
    2. Copy backup file task at Server B Share
    3. Triggering SQL server restore job at Server B
    Create Job at Server B with no schedule
    1. To restore the databaseRegards,

    if i add a new Sql DB the job will fail because the new DB is not on the backup job list.

    In the GUI, if you select all dbs on the server, then schedule the backup, the job will backup all dbs. Or from the cmdlet, if no database is specified, meaning use “-d 0”, or no “-d” switch, the cmdlet job will backup all dbs.

    Thanks,

    We have EPO 4.6 and it is using the SQL Express 2005 database that comes bundled with the installation files McAfee provides.

    Is there a way to set up a daily or weekly database backup or can we simply add certain file directories to a scheduled Windows backup job without problems of open files being locked and failing to get backed up?

    DB:3.09:How To Configure Backup Of Epo 4.6? kz

    KB66616 is the one you want. Backup of the DB alone will NOT allow a successful restore.

    The article must be followed to the letter, if only part of the listed data is backed up then restore will be compromised.

    You'll be pleased to know that when it becomes available ePO 5.0 integrates backup procedure in a much easier (and configurable way).

    Hi everyone,

    I recently upgraded my Call Manager cluster from version 8.0.3 to 10.5.1. There is a nightly backup job scheduled named "Daily" that I'd like to edit to include the co-resident Prime License Manger server.

    In order to edit the scheduled task, I logged in to DRS, clicked on the "Daily" job, added a check mark to the "ELM" option and clicked "save." The status error that comes up on the next page says "Update Failed. The configured date or time has elapsed."

    This "Daily" job was originally created on February 19, 2012 - after the last CUCM upgrade from 6.1.2 to 8.0.3. Do I need to create a new backup job to include the PLM server instead of trying to edit the existing job?

    We use zenworks desktop managment 7.x, and backup exec 10d on a windows media server. I cannot issue start/stop commands in job properties for netware servers on a windows media server. So I have to come up with another way to shut down the database outside of the backup exec software.

    Just wondering what the best way is? I\'d like something that is tied to the backup job so that it always fires of when the job runs and if the I run the job later (or someone else has to run it manually) they don\'t have to fumble through some other things or have to gain access to the server to shut down the database. I realize this probably isn\'t a possiblity. I have open file option but that isn\'t a substitue for shutting down the database - right?. A cron job would work, but then again, its not tied to the job.

    Would the backup process in c1 be a solution - use cron at a given time each day, and then exclude the actual databases from the backup exec selection list, but include the backup directory made by the backup process?

    We also have stuffkey running on the server - not sure how this weighs against cron jobs. I guess neither are can be tied directly to a backup job.

    DB:3.07:Daily Backup f7

    Hi ..

    A good idea using backup to disk is to have 2 set of filesystems, one for your today's online backup, an another for tomorrow's one.
    Each time you start online backup, you sould use the different set of disks that you use last time. This way gives a way to have 2 online backups on disk, and you can take more time to save onto tapes ...

    You need to design scripts ( C like ), in order to select the correct set of filesystem to use, and also you need a table ( or a file ) to save that information for the next backup.

    I hope this can help ,

    regards ..

    Hi,
    I have 3 databases that I need to do a complete backup for and I am able to perform a scheduled backup for 2 of those 3 databases using the Enterprise Manager SQL Server Backup. The 2 that backup properly are less than 1GB in size and the 3rd is around 8GB.

    I am fairly new to using this feature of Enterprise Manager and when I was testing it out, I was able to successfully create a backup of the 8GB database...but unfortunately, I did not schedule it to occur regularly.  When I repeated what I did and checked the box off to schedule the backup, the job didn't succeed.  I thought it didn't work because there was already a backup in the destination folder so I deleted the backup and started all over...now it won't even create the backup, it gets stuck in the Backup Progress window...basically there is no progress, even when left over night. (The computer doesn't freeze, and I am still able to open other applications.)

    How I created the backup:
    1. Clicked on New Backup Device... under management and created a .bak file
    2. Clicked on Backup a Database... also under management
    From there, I tried both Append to media and Overwrite existing media to no avail... I also tried using the Backup Wizard which didn't work.

    The scheduled backups for the 2 small databases continue to work while the large one doesn't. I don't understand why it worked initially then stopped...

    I hope I explained my problem well enough, any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi, From the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa546765%28BTS.10%29.aspx You must configure the Backup BizTalk Server job before you can back up BizTalk Server. To configure the backup, you will need to perform most or all of the following tasks:     * Edit the SQL Server Agent job Backup BizTalk Server (BizTalkMgmtDb) to identify the primary and destination SQL Servers and other backup options     * Choose a Windows user account to back up your databases and create a SQL Server login for this account     * Map SQL Server logins to the BTS_BACKUP_USERS database role in the BizTalk Server databases Here, I'm using Domain user account called Admin  to login to the SQL Server box. While Biztalk Server 2006 installed by BizTalk administrator, the BizTalk databases were created with the owner called BIzTalkAdmin and all othe jobs were created with that user because we created a login BIzTalkAdmin and assigned sysadmin rights before installing BizTalk. Later we chaned  owner of the jobs from BIzTalkAdmin to Admin (Sql Sevrer Admin). Now before configuring Backup BizTalk Server Job, it says we need to map the user account to BTS_BACKUP_USERS database role in the BizTalk Server databases. But I logged in as Admin (which has sysadmin rights)and configured the backup job and it worked. I have already specified the email server in the configuration properties and did e test and received the test email but is it possible to configure the job for email notification if the job fails?

    hi,
    there is a particular metric for backup jobs. this checks to see if the number of jobs that have failed is 0. this will then need to be attached to a rule to send out the email.

    DB:3.04:Vcb Trying To Create An Image Backup 83

    I am trying to create an Image level backup by using VCB and Backup Exec 12.5. Everything is set up correctly so there is no problem there. We would like to have the Image stay in it's backup folder (mnt) and not taken to tape in the same job. Then the next morning, we have a job for each virtual machine that takes the disk image from the mnt directory, to tape. The disk to tape backup job works great. I won't explain to you how we get the disk to disk job to work. What I'm trying to accomplish is to create one job for disk to disk and then one job for disk to tape. The disk to tape job we have figured out. I only need help on the disk to disk job.

    For our disk to disk backup, we have this line in the pre-command - "D:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Consolidated Backup Framework\backupexec\pre-backup.bat" Testimage TestServer.EDU-FullVM

    We have nothing in the post command. How do I get the job to find the server so it can back it up? What do I put in the selection list?

    Thanks

    DB:3.04:Vcb Trying To Create An Image Backup 83

    The B2D job moves the image to tape. After the disk to disk job runs at night, we leave the image in the mnt directory until noon the next day. The reason we do this is if the next morning we have to restore a VM. Since the VM is still on disk, it'll be quicker to restore.

    DB:3.04:General Backup And Recovery Questions 8c

    I have SQL Server 2000 database setup that I am trying to document and plan for an upgrade to 2005 and I have a couple of questions. Currently there are two backup jobs defined.  One job does a Full and runs once a week.  The other job is a differential and runs every 4 hours daily. My questions are then: 1) The Maintenance job that runs the Full backup uses the same name as the Differential job.  Is that right?  Shouldn't it be a different name so if needed I can restore form the Full and then go to my most recent differential file? 2) The differential backup file is about twice are large as the database now and growing which I guess makes sense since it is a differential job and will continue to grow until the next Full runs (on Saturday) after which point in time it will then get reduced in size again.  Right? 2) To take that backup file and restore on my new SQL Server 2005 server I just need to create a new Full backup of the database, copy it over and do a restore.  Then if I really wanted to test the differential componenent could I then copy over a recent differential backup file and try and restore that file? TIA, MJ

    DB:3.04:General Backup And Recovery Questions 8c

    Is the reason you ask if it is maintenance plan or a job created by someone is that the syntax should be correct if created via a maintenance plan?  Otherwise they both use T-SQL commands right?The reason for asking was to try to grasp what backup command is executed. Yes, MP is just a wrapper for TSQL commands (BACKUP).1: Yes, the INIT makes all the difference. Note that the BACKUP command has in itself no functionality to keep 4 days worth of backups (backup generations). For that you either have to do some coding of your own (http://www.karaszi.com/SQLServer/util_backup_script_like_MP.asp), or use a Maint Plan (which does that for you).2: Size of database isn't the important thing here. The key is: How mch data can you afford to lose in case of some disaster:1 day? Then daily db backup is probably fine.1 hour? Then perhaps daily db backup combined with hourly log or diff backups.As little as possible? Then yu do want to do log backups since that allow you for point in time restore and also log backup of a broken database.These things you need to sit down and think about. Here's possibly some inspiration: http://www.karaszi.com/SQLServer/info_minimizing_data_loss.asp3: YEs, restore of a database backup is fine. What I wasn't sure of is whether you can also restore DIFFERENTIAL backups from lower to higher version...Tibor Karaszi, SQL Server MVP

    I had to replace my EX2 device in order to create a backup job. Apparently my volume was bad.

    For those unable to create a remote backup job (no shares displayed), here is how you can check your volume:

    1. Logon to your Source device admin dashboard

    2. Go to Settings

    3. Select Utilities

    4. Run Scan Disk

    5. If the results say test Failed, you will need to get a new device. Check your warranty, and call WD to see if you can get an RMA to return your device and get a new one. The data will need to be copied to the new device, then you can set up and run remote backup jobs.

    DB:3.02:How To Create A Hot Backup? ff

    I want to create a backup of a production database and then restore that backup to as test database.

    I already have the production database and test database on different servers (Linux).

    I used to use export and import for this when the production database was not live yet.

    The production database is in noarchivelog mode. I just need the test database to be a backup of production database with data consistency and not really care about the point of time.

    RMAN is using all default values.

    How should I create this hot backup and restore to the test database?

    I think I just need to issue backup database in RMAN. I'm not sure how to do the restore though.

    DB:3.02:How To Create A Hot Backup? ff

    Yes for RMAN Online Duplicate command to work your database has to be in ARCHIVELOG mode.

    If directory structure is different, from 11gr2 onwards you can use

    SET NEWNAME FOR DATABASE instead of renaming each file using SET NEWNAME for file 1 to 'xyz' or

    you can keep db_file_name_convert and log_file_name_convert in your test box pfile

    In short :

    1)Convert your production database to archivelog mode.

    2)Use RMAN Duplicate online command

    You can follow the below link:

    Hi,

    I have a maintenance plan to perform CHECKDB, Reindex, Backup, Cleanup tasks in that order. Lately, its been running very very long. For more than 2 days. Initially it was because of a bunch of reasons i.e. disk ran out of space, TRN and BAK jobs running on
    top of each other, etc. But now, I created a new plan with just backup. Even that runs forever. Just simple backup, nothing else (small database).

    Now, if I create a job with T-Sql command and run it, it runs fast in under a second. But if I create
    a Maintenance Plan on the same database it takes forever. How do I troubleshoot this? I do not get any errors because, I stop the job after running for a few hours.

Create a new package in BIDS.2. In the control flow tab drag and drop a DFT tasks in it. Right click and click on edit.3. In the Data flow tab drag and drop a oledb source and point it to your SQL Server 2000 source database.4. Drag and drop a ole db destination and point it to you destination table5. map the required columns of the table(sysxlogins).PS: I assume both source and destination table have same schema      I assume you have SQL Server integration services installed.

Discovered that we had to re-ip the new datastores, and subsequent attempts to add the scheduled backup fail with the error: "Failed to create the backup job. Reason: The backup or job name "jobname" already exists. Names must be unique. "

    The job in question is unlisted in the Backup and Recovery tab, I know I could add the job with a different name, and probably will, but I am curious how to remove the existing yet missing job?

    Thanks -

    Steve

    DB:3.00:Removing An Unlisted Backup Job 1p

    The job was never listed in the console – while creating the job it always failed to list the virtual entities available for selection, and I had to cancel.

    I am assuming this was because the ip address we used for the new datastore was already in use in another area of the country. So, it was a separate datacenter, both separate private networks, but both existing on the same virtual center and that must be what choked the new backup job creation, or at least stopped it right after recording the job’s name.
