My H-23 HD DVR (and Xbox 360) is hard wired to my Linksys WRTP54G router. I have two computers running WPM 11. One computer is hard wired to the router and the other has a wireless connection. Having spent several hours, and as many different forums, I am now able to Share Media to the H-23 HD DVR (and XBox 360) from my computer that is hard wired. The computer with the wireless connection does not see the H-23 HD DVR (and XBox 360). What am I doing wrong?

I have three DTV receivers being fed by and an HD antennae, an HR15, HR20 HDDVR and Microsoft UTV. I am hoping to replace the HR 15 with a new HR22 or 23 HD-DVR. The new HD-DVR will be in a room with only one coax wire feeding it. Can I feed the new HD-DVR with one wire and get the full functionality of the DVR to record two channels or watch one while recording another?

while is true that you don't need a phone connection if the HR24 is connected to the internet via the cinema connection kit, (you won't get on screen caller ID without a phone line), it would not cause interference to have both connected.

If you are a Tivo user and are thinking about upgrading to HD service you may want to reconsider as you will be very unhappy with the look and operation of the Direct TV DVR in comparison to the Tivo.I am in the process of trying to cancel the upgrade (which required a 2 year commitment) and go back to my old Tivo unit. DB:2.91:Tivo Hd And Cinema Plus ka

The new HD DirecTV/Tivo doesn't have those features because Tivo didn't implement them. Whether they'll enhance its features in the future probably depends largely on how popular the THR22 becomes.

And because the THR22 is based on the DirecTV HR22 hardware platform, hardware accessories designed for other Tivos won't work on the THR22. Even the remote control is unique.

If you have DirecTV enable WHDVR service and pay the $3/month fee, you can use it with a DIY Ethernet network setup. However, the configuration is not supported by DirecTV and if you have problems you're on your own. DECA is the only officially supported means of networking receivers for WHDVR/MRV. Email seems to be the best way to get them to enable WHDVR in this unsupported mode as many CSRs either aren't aware that it is possible or don't know how to do it.

Wireless connection will give you nothing but trouble when streaming HD content between receiver's. The best thing to do for WHDVR is Networking then through hardwire Ethernet to a network switch or router, or get the SWM/DECA upgrade. Either way will be allot better way to network your DVR's for WHDVR and also having the Internet connection to the system.

DB:2.75:Hr-23 Doesn't Sync With Panasonic Tv On Power On 39

I upgraded my DVR to a HR-23 back in January, and it worked fine till about a month ago. I have had HD-Tivo, HR-20 and now the HR-23 on my same Panasonic HDTV (Tube type 1080i CRT, 34" with HDMI for input from the DVR). Recently when I power on the TV using the ON button on my DirecTV remote (programmed to turn on TV and DVR together) the TV is unable to sync to the HDMI signal. It reports 4x3 on the screen (a function of the TV) and I have attached a picture of what the screen looks like. My thought is that it is not correctly syncing to the HDMI signal but when I change the channel once it immediately starts working correctly.

I opened a case with DirecTV but they were no help, had me change the HDMI cable, lots of reboots, resets, etc.

I am using a 2TB Western Digital eSATA drive with it. I don't have any issues (other than the reported slowness, approaching the pain level sometimes) but no stuttering or apparent disk related issues.

If anyone has seen this or knows what I'm dealing with please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Marc

I had the HD DVR installed a while back. When it was initially installed they only did one line. I was told by the tech person he would come back and install a SWIM and clean up all the wires coming into my house. I have 6 receivers in total (2 standard, 2 HD, 1 HD DVR, 1 standard DVR). I had no problems with the one line into the HD DVR HR 22-100. When they came out to install the second line I have had picture issues ever sense. The picture will just start to shake and go blank. Audio continues. So they came back out and reinstalled checked wires and again nothing. They said it was the TV. Took it to Best Buy because I have a service plan and nothing is wrong with the TV. Talked with their guys and they said it might be grounding. This makes no sense to me since we had no problem until the second line was run to the new receiver. Anyone have any ideas?????By the way although I was promised a SWIM it never happened. Been a customer since 99.

I have an HR-10 250 (Tivo) and just had the new dish put on my house with DirecTv Move program. The install guy said I cannot get local HD channels with my HR-10 250, that I need the new DirecTv DVR to get locals in HD. Is this correct?I appreciate the help.

    DB:2.75:Hr-10 250 km

If you do switch (and I suggest you do) the big thing that you will notice is that it appears that you cannot switch between receivers like you can on the Tivo unit.I said appears because you can do this with just a little extra work. All you need to do is record both shows.1. Switch to show one, hit the record button. 2. Switch to show two, hit the record button.3. Manually enter the channel number of the first show.4. Use the previous button to switch between the two shows.Another reason to switch (from what I have heard) is that you will not be able to pick up the new HD channels on the Tivo unit when they come out.

    DB:2.74:Confusion About My Wh Dvr Set-Up 1k

We have 4 tvs, 1 sd and 2 hd recv and 1 hd dvr. When we had the hd dvr installed we asked the installer about whole home. and after talking we called and added the wh service. When we went to access the service on 1 of our hd recv, it would give a message that it was not networked, which the 2nd hd recv also gave the same message. We could only record on the hd dvr unit. After calling Directv , we to have a service call to install a filter on the sd recv and was told that should solve the problem. No service call, so we called back and after talking to a supervisor, were told that we didn't have the swm on our system. So I went outside and looked at the dish which is a slimline. It has a SL3S4NR2-14 LNB on it which the installer put on when he came to install the hd dvr. Inside by the hd dvr is the power inserter unit which is a PI21R1-03 and he also installed a deca box on the back of the hd dvr unit. I called Directv back and was walked thru a list of checks to see if we could get the receivers networking. No luck. The deca unit on the hd dvr has the green power lite on solid and the clink lite blinking and the network lite is not lit. So after all the run thru by the tech on the phone, he tells me that my system is missing a part to make the whole home work correctly. Which by what I can understand is a SWM multiswitch which is not mounted on the system. So now I am pretty confused about it all. Can someone here please help me understand if I do need to add the multiswitch to make my wholehome system work or any other helpful info as to my problem. The receivers we have are as follows......The sd recv is a D12-500, the 2 hd recvs are H24-700 and the hd dvr is a HR 23-700.

I have 2 HD DVR's. The HR 23 is downstairs and the is right next to my cable modem. I don't have any trouble downloading more than one On Demand program. I can queue as many shows as I want. The HR 20 in my bedroom will only download one On Demand program at a time. The List will show the program being downloaded and the next ones in queue but when the original download is done, the others disappear.

The network speed isn't the problem because once the download starts, it moves quickly. I have Road Runner Turbo or whatever they're calling it now. The box is faster than the HR 23 as far as Guide speed and changing channels. We have no issue watching something from the other DVR, either. It's just the On Demand thing.

    Thanks.

    DB:2.71:Cannot Queue On Demand am

Not sure what the problem is, but resetting the configuration to the Cinemaplus (on demand) router won't hurt and might help. Do it thus: Menu - .....setup - system setup - network setup - reset defaults - connect now. You should get a connected to Internet massage. If you do, go to channel 1101 and select two music concerts as a test. If they download, you've been fixed, if not, not sure what's wrong.

I specify 1101 because it has been proven to be among the most reliable.

So I finally got a DirecTV HD DVR Plus or whatever it is called (HR-20 700).In preparation for its arrival (I live in a MDU so they DirecTV happily shipped it out to me FedEx) I made sure I had to lines going to behind my TV and tested them both with my non-DVR HD receiver. The HR-20 arrived, I cabled it up, and it worked fine for DirecTV channels. The only thing I did notice with it was that the over the air antenna (required for HD locals on current MDU dishes.. or so I'm told) didn't pick up channels nearly as well as the non-DVR box it was replacing. So this morning I started having some signal issues on a lot of DirecTV channels. After doing all the cable shuffling I could handle, and reseting the box several times, I pulled out the old one and tested both lines again.Sure enough, with the old box I haven't had any signal problems on either DirecTV channels or over the air HD local channels.So... on to the question... do you think it is just a defective box or are the HR-20 700 tuners just that much worse then the regular box?

    DB:2.71:Hddvr Signal Oddities kp

Ya... I just called it a splitter because that is what it says on it.Either way.. I have a box in my closet that has a feed from somewhere (the dish?) and has four outputs. One of them goes to one jack in the wall which I plugged directly into my sat #2 input. The other one I have going into the MDU provide "splitter" and then into the OTA and Sat #1 inputs. This is all on the HR20-100 that got delivered today and sure enough everything is working much better then it did with the first HR20-700 they originally sent me. I'm getting all the locals OTA that I got with the H20 plus a good signal on both sat. tuners. Thanks for the info.John

On the HD DVR HR-21, can you save to VCR or DVD play like on my R10 Tivo DVR?

    DB:2.71:Save To Vcr/Dvd 99

Yes. But there's no special "Save to VCR" mode. On the Tivo DVRs "Save to VCR" is handy because it locks out most of the remote functions so that you don't accidentally interrupt copying your show from the Tivo to your VCR/DVD Recorder. On the newer DVRs, you simply start playing the show and begin recording on your VCR/DVD Recorder. Then stick the remote somewhere where you won't accidentally press any keys that might mess up the playback while your VCR/DVD Recorder is recording.

    Thanks for the help.

DB:2.68:What Equipment Do I Need? fj

The fact that you don't know what "DECA" and "Cinema Connection Kit" are strongly suggests that you should not attempt this installation yourself. And things get even more complicated once you go past 8 satellite tuners. Gone are the days when someone could slap up a dish, connect it to a Receiver, fiddle the alignment a bit, and be good-to-go. It's much more complicated with the newer high def Slimline Dishes, Single Wire Multiswitch technology, DECA coax networking (for Whole Home DVR service), and internet connectivity (Cinema Connection Kit). And this equipment is expensive. DirecTV has some sweet deals for new subscribers and provides the required equipment at substantially less cost with free installation.

Also, check to see if it has a dvi port (just use google if you don't know what one looks like). If it does, you can buy a dvi to hdmi cable. Using dvi will require you to run separate audio (either the red and white cable, optical, or coaxial).

All my connections are the same, I've run system tests and both receivers are connected to the internet and I constantly get the message "no networked DVRs found". What is the issue now? Advice please.

Beginning this week, our HD Dvr HR 22 has started losing its signal when only recording HD programming. While watching HD shows, we have no issues. Recording SD shows, no issues. I have checked our programs that we recorded this week, and if they are in HD, it doesn't record the whole program and the error message says that the it lost the signal during the broadcast. Most of those recorded shows don't get recorded at all, when you press play to watch the show it automatically ask you if you want to delete the show.

It doesn't seem to be a DVR issue, because we can watch HD shows just fine, and stream and record content over the internet.

The receiver models are as follows.....The sd recv is a D12-500, the 2 hd recvs are H24-700 and the hd dvr is a HR 23-700.

I have had a Genie DVR HR 34-700 and two Genie minis C31-700 for 7 months. The issues started a month ago and have become more common lately. I'll be watching a show on the TV hooked directly to the HR 34 and the image on the screen will freeze. There will be no sound. If I switch to another station and back to the original station, I can get about 60 seconds of viewing before this happens again. This issue occurs twice a week and is fixed only by rebooting the HD DVR.

Sometimes when watching on this same set, the picture on the TV just turns pink and can be fixed by turning off the HD DVR and restarting it.

Another big issue is sometimes when watching shows on two different TVs and the HD DVR is recording something, both TVs will go blank and the DVR will stop recording. The only way to resolve this is to reboot the main DVR.

    Is the DVR defective?

    Hello,

I upgraded my DVR from an HR-23 to an HR-34 this past Saturday. The HR-34 is located in my living room. When I attempted to play back a recorded program on my H-25 HD Receiver in my bedroom the video would freeze and lock up every couple of minutes. The first time I tried to play the recorded program I got an error message - something about no audio/video packets. There was also quite a delay from the time I hit Play to the time the program actually displayed on the tv the second time I tried to play. I had no problems playing back the recorded program on the HR-34 itself, only when using the MRV. Is this just a software compatibility issue between the HR-34 and the H-25? I've restarted both the H-25 and the HR-34, but I'm still experiencing the same issue. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    David

DB:2.64:Hr-34 Whole Home Dvr - Video Freezes And Locks Up When Playing Back From H-25 Receiver dp

    Thanks opus.

A technician came out yesterday at the insistence of case management - they wanted to check signal levels or something. The technician said there is a known compatibility issue between the HR-34 and the H-25. He said he just learned about it last week so it must be a relatively new bug after the latest software update. Since the technician knew it was a known issue there wasn't really anything that he could do, he just downloaded the most recent software on the HR-34 and the H-25. We didn't really verify if the issue was resolved because as I mentioned I don't need to watch recorded programming on my other H-25 now that I have my HR-23 hooked up in my bedroom.

I asked about the power inserter being inline with the receiver and he said I could use a splitter to avoid having it inline with the receiver, but he didn't have a splitter and since everything is working fine for me I didn't pursue it further. He believed that the problem only occurred with the 21v power inserter and that the it may only affect specific channels that are certain frequencies (I probably don't watch any of those channels anyway).

    Thanks,David

    Please excuse my terminilogy

I have an HR 24 HD DVR that freezes up during playback of recorded material. IT seems to look up most often if I am using the 30 sec skip button and while that is in progress I hit the replay button a few times. So for example, I'm watching a show and it goes to commercial, I hit 30 sec skip 6 times .... but the commercial ends up only being 2 minutes long.... so I'lll then immediately hit the replay button to stop the skip and back up the video to the correct point in the show... however, the receiver will just freeze and no longer play the movie. I can't shut it off or do anything other than reset the system. I had complained to DirecTV and they responded by having me run the receiver self check (no problems found) and then they sent me a new receiver... which still has the same issues.... which to me says either my setup is wrong or this receiver's firmware is still junk. Seeing how this receiver is only a few months old... I'm guessing I'm just the lucky public beta tester who has to deal with this stuff until it eventually gets fixed (as is the case with many electronics these days, the early adopter consumer is the beta tester). This hasn't happened while rewinding/playing live TV... so far it has been limited to playback of recorded TV.

Another slightly less anoying glitch I've found is that the TV won't playback material at the correct resolution unless you physically set the resolution on the box. Meaning I'll de-select 480p, 720p.... but unless I hit the format button ont he remote, the receiver will stay in 480p no matter what cahnnel is displayed... I didn't have this problem with the HR 23.

I had previously had an HR 23 HD DVR and never had this issue before so to me it has to be a firmware issue... or perhaps my AVR isn't playing nice with the HR 24? Here is my setup.

I have three other receivers and have no issues with them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

DB:2.61:Hr 23 Dvr Freezes And Then Reboots mp

rpd162 I have a similar freezing issue. It all started after we we forced to accept the HD guide update (57b) The issue is with the software, not what tv you have or what cables you use. I had my receiver connected as it has been for two years and a week after the update (Dec. 2011) freezing problem arose. I had not had any problems what so ever prior. The Dtv engineers have been of no help. They did replace my receiver (HR24-100) and within two days the problem was back. The replacement receiver came to me with the older firmware but was updated the first night. It may be a case that Dtv is going to start selling HD tv's and we will have to have one of there's. Or possibly the technology is too much for them to understand. Regardless I don't think the problem is your equipment or how it is hooked up.

    DB:2.61:New Hr2x 0x0368 Software Update 1k

DirecTV began rolling out the latest new software version for the R22 SD DVR and HR20, 21, 22, and 23 HD DVR this morning (October 23). It's version 0x0368. Release notes may be found athttp://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=167093 We don't yet know if this update solves the recent issues that some folks are having with erroneous "space remaining" or loud hard drive activity, but that should become clear as this update rolls out over the next few weeks. Note that you cannot "force" an update to your DVR. Your DVR will receive the latest update when its turn comes up over the next few weeks.

DB:2.61:Hr 21 - B Band Converters And Other Questions kd

I just bought another tv for my house and noticed in my account I was eligible for a free HD DVR so I took advantage of it. When I recieved it I was a little dissapointed to discover they had sent me an HR21 HD DVR. I already own a HR 23, so I feel like I have received older technology. I am debating if I should send it back and try and get an HR23, but I have a few questions about the 21:

    1) What would I be giving up tehnology-wise on the 21 vs. the 23? The only think I know of is dvr storage I think.

    2) The box came with some b band converters, do I need these? I am guessing not since my HR23 does not have them.

    3) I am thinking about getting the whole home DVR installed, can this be done DIY? I am technically saavy, so I think I can do it if DTV alllows it.

    4) The location of this DVR will be in a location that only has 1 satellite line. Short of installing a 2nd line, is there anything I can do to get the 2nd tuner operational?

    Thanks in advance.

DB:2.61:Hr 21 - B Band Converters And Other Questions kd

    1. Nothing, the H21 is a good box and besides, you don't get to choose which model you get.

    2. Maybe. On the working DVR press the dash (-) button. Does the resulting message indicate SWM? If not, you need the B band converters. (the HR23 has them built in)

    3. Not really, it requires a SWM dish and a number of other devices so it is intended for professional installation.

    4. Only a SWM system (and thus the Whole Home) will operate a DVR to full capacity with only one coax feed. Without a SWM dish you'd need to run another coax from the dish to the HR21.

Hello Installers ! I've a question. R22 SD DVR has exactly design like HR new generation HD DVR. Why ?

    DB:2.60:R22 sj

...and BBCsThe problem is, with the current system... one can't order an HD dish or add HD access without some sort of HD equipment on the account. (which the R22 is not - we'll hope for a "yet" here)So, if you only have SD equipment, including the R22, you're not going to be able to upgrade it to HD without upgrading something else in the system. Upgrade another receiver to HD or HD-DVR, along with it will come the dish upgrade and HD access, then all you need are BBCs on the sat lines to the R22 also. (slightly different for SWM installs)IF you have a SWM, you don't need the BBC, and most SWM installs are with a Slimline 3 or 5 dish, all you'd need is HD access added. But that becomes again a problem, unless there is any other HD equipment on the account.Once the catch 22... Ooooh the Catch R22! is resolved... being able to add HD access and order dish upgrades for it, and BBCs when needed... everyone with an R22 is HD-ready.

I am having a problem with my new HD DVR. During some playback on the DVR, show seem to skip at times during playback. There are also times where the sound and video are not in sync. This is my first issue with the new DVR and HD TV.

I have a HR21-100 HD receiver and a HD DVR receiver and both are networked. I see the Multi Room option in the System Setup menu and when I go to Status on the HR21 it says "No network DVR found" even though my DVR is networked. Would do I need to get the HR 21 to see my DVR receiver. What am I doing wrong?

DB:2.60:Remote Controls Have Serious Issues With Hd-Dvr, Sensor Broke? da

Remote controls not working properly with my HR 24-200 HD-DVR receiver. Tried multiple remotes, replaced batteries, re-programmed, etc. 100% certain it is not a problem with remotes, as remotes work just fine with other my other receivers (standard and HD). But they work only sporadically with my HD-DVR, which makes me think there must be something wrong with it's sensor.

For example, when I try and change the channel, it will only do so after I hit the channel button 7 or 8 (or sometimes even more) times. With the tv, I don't have any problems (for example whenever I try and turn the volume up). But anything I try and do with this receiver involves me mashing the buttons multiple times before the HD-DVR even responds.

    Really starting to get annoying.

DB:2.60:Which Model Hd Dvr Will I Get? 7s

I've been a DirecTV subscriber for nearly 12 years andjust ordered the upgraded to HD DVRservice to be installed Saturday.

My question is, based on the DTV website's nomenclature, this is a HD DVR Plus, but I don't know what model that equates to (i.e. HR-23, etc.) Just wanted to study up on it, but hoping someone had an idea of what equipment I'll be given and if I should do anything at this point to amend my order somehow to be sure I get the best unit for my home theater setup.

    Many thanks,

    Ron
