That is a problem with the Flash plugin.

Did you revert to Flash 10.3 in the past because of problems with Flash because the System Details List shows that old Flash 10.3 version?

You should update to the latest Flash player.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

    Good afternoon.

Since the upgrade to 9.0 more times than not FireFox 9 was crashing upon attempting to open the application.

Normally Once I got it to run I was able to browse anything and everything with the software with no more or less crashes than normal.

This was true even in safe mode. I had assumed others had this same problem. As such I waited for FireFox to fix the issue in 9.0.1

When this update came out I installed the software.
The problem not only persists, it has gotten worse.

I am writing this email after having attempted to start FireFox more than 100 times in a row without sucess.

I have prevously uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox.
Reformatted my PC and reinstalled Windows XP then reinstalled all updates.

At this point in time I am running Firefox 9.0.1 with the most recent version of Adobie Flash player and I beleive one single plugin, that being a 'persona' called 'Gothic Girl.'

I have also installed AVG free version onto the computer which I beleive installs a Safe Search function into the browser.

This problem had percisted before the installation of AVG.

I have no such problems running IE or Google Chrome.

Adding more information, after a restart of my computer I disabled AVG by turning off Resident Shield in the application.

FireFox continued to crash after attempting to start. I was however, after several attempts, able to get the crash report from one of these.

This is the configuration that gives me the most luck starting the application.
It is by no means an acceptable rate of start up success, as normally it still takes me 3 to 10 times to get Firefox to start running.

My browser crashes about once per day. I usually have about 40-50 tabs but at times when I increase the memory usage, the program crashes. The session usually recovers but sometimes it stops saving a hour before due to memory issues. The system has 6 GB of memory and haven't had this problem until recently. The memory usage is around 80 percent and Firefox totals more than half of the percent. When I open Firefox again, I get a AVG notice that shows high memory usage of over 2 GB for the Firefox application and that it would be best to restart the program.

Are you able to test in Firefox's safemode and with all plugin disabled as I suggested in my last post. Then post Crash IDs whilst Firefox is like that.

If Firefox is not crashing in its Safe Mode with plugins disabled then one of the plugins or one of your extensions could be the trigger of the crashes or it could be something else safe mode changes such as hardware acceleration.

I am not too sure how Windows handles memory. Firefox on Windows is only a 32bit application. So even though you are on a 64bit machine with 8GB that may limit Firefox to 2GB before paging. Anyhow I would not expect Firefox necessarily to use 2GB never mind crash with High Memory with only 25 tabs, especially with no plugins enabled. I think Firefox may be expected to slowdown more gracefully as it pages rather than crash.

DB:3.31:Why Is Firefox So Unreliable z9

Recently more than ever Firefox lets me down multiple times a day and is becoming unreliable and unusable. I don't know if this is due to a recent update because I never had problems to this extent before. Always problems but not to this degree.
I get the blank google page after using the back button which is really annoying but I can cope with that. Then now there's the 'stop plug in' because its not responding page where everything freezes and usually crashes after. And now I get totally unresponsive pages that freeze all the time.
Its got to the stage where the little quirks of Firefox are increasing instead of being ironed out and fixed and it has become a hindrance instead of a help. Back to Opera

DB:3.31:Why Is Firefox So Unreliable z9

Do you like the new Opera, or are you still using the old Opera (12.x)?

Google results page blanking out on "Back"

This was first reported about 11 months ago, and affects users with a zoom level of 130% or higher. A workaround was discovered about two weeks after that report, so you needn't have suffered all this time. Here it is:

    (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

    (3) Double-click the browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers preference and change the value from -1 to 0 (that's a zero).

(Please don't change any other similar-sounding settings to 0 or you may disable Firefox's ability to save/restore your open windows and tabs.)

Then reload the problem page. Hopefully after that you won't need to reload the results page ever again.

    Plugin not responding

Is it Flash? I don't know if it's available for Windows XP, but Flash is up to version 14 now: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Generally speaking, plugins should not take down Firefox completely like that because they are (usually) isolated in the plugin-container.exe process. Some users have set an environment variable to force Firefox to run plugins "in-process" instead of using plugin-container.exe. If you have done that, you could experiment with undoing it to see whether that helps keep plugin crashes from crashing Firefox.

    Pages freezing

There are many possible reasons for this, so without details, it is hard to advise. You could check this support article for general suggestions: Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix.

Since it works the second time I open it, this is really more of a nuisance than a crucial problem. However, I do want it to work properly. Please help.

I'm VERY frustrated with Firefox! It is CONSTANTLY hanging, scripts stopping everything when I try to watch videos, I check "Do Not Ask Me Again" and SECONDS later, it comes up again. I'm having a heck of a time even typing this. I've been on my computer for about 45 minutes, I've actually been able to USE IT for about FIVE of those minutes. Is it time to change to IE? I'm getting very disgusted with this constant hanging of Firefox and the inability to use my computer. Is there anything I can do to get it to run smoothly? I've reset Firefox multiple times and it STILL hangs and crashes. I'm ready to change to IE because I spend more time waiting than actually getting anything accomplished. I can't tell you how many times I've lost information because of a crash.

On Friday 11/14, I went in to my Options and checked "Enable Telemetry" so Firefox can see how bad it's running. Is that actually doing any good? It's been running horribly and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just letting them see how my computer runs for no reason but to allow them the ability to watch what I'm doing, not see how bad Firefox is "running."

DB:3.08:Why Firefox Has Been Releasing More Updates These Days kz

Firefox updates every 6 weeks, and has been doing this since Mid 2012. This is part of Rapid Release, https://blog.lizardwrangler.com/2011/08/25/rapid-release-process/.

The only known bugs we ship with are either affect a very small portion of users, or aren't reliably reproducible for us to fix (if you look at the release notes there are only 4 known bugs, and they have been the same for many releases and almost nobody is affected by them).

As for your Firefox crashing and freezing, try resetting it, Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. Flash is a separate issue that Adobe has to fix, there is nothing Mozilla can do about that that we haven't already done.

DB:3.04:Silverlight5 Crashes Repeatedly On Netflix zj

For more than 6 months I've had no problem streaming Netflix on my MacBook Air running the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox and MS Silverlight5. Suddenly 3 days ago Netflix stopped working though. The Netflix staff have diagnosed the problem:
Silverlight continually crashes when the stream loads to 50%. I've followed Netflix's detailed instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling Silverlight 6 times. A few times the stream has worked after reinstalling Silverlight, but only for one
Netflix title. After that, Silverlight crashes on each attempt to open any new titles. Please help.

DB:3.04:Silverlight5 Crashes Repeatedly On Netflix zj

here's how I fixed the issue and got Silverlight (older version) working again:

    1) Verify it's a Silverlight issue by trying it with other browsers (Safari, Chrome, FF, etc.). If it still fails on another browser, create a new user account and try accessing Netflix via Safari and see if it works. If it's a Silverlight issue, it'll fail
regardless of what browser or user account.

    2) Once confirmed as a Silverlight issue, Google and download Silverlight 5 build 5.1.20913.0. I ended up downloading the file from Techspot. I ran the file through VirusTotal.com scanner and came up with no issues, you can verify if you like.

    3) Once you havethis version of Silverlight downloaded ,you can remove your current version. Open up Terminal and copy and paste the following (authenticate for the root lines):

    sudo rm /var/db/receipts/com.microsoft.SilverlightInstaller.*
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Silverlight.plugin
    rm -rf /Library/Receipts/Silverlight*.pkg
    rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Silverlight

    4) Once the broken version is removed, install the version just downloaded and try Netflix again. Should work now...you may have to 'confirm' you're using an old version when it first runs but it'll run afterwards.

I've done the above steps a couple times already just to confirm it's working. Hope that helps...

DB:2.98:Firefox 8 Constantly Crashes, Reinstalling Did Not Help. How Do I Roll Back To Firefox 7? cx

Ever since I made the mistake of upgrading to Firefox 8.0.1, it now freezes/crashes upwards of 4, 5, 6+ times a day. Usually I just get the 'Firefox needs to close' error, but more often than not, when copying and pasting text or a URL, or trying to open a new window, or when trying to log into a website, it completely freezes. I notice it freezes quite often when using YouTube and Facebook (open in multiple tabs).

I normally have to go into the Task Manager to the Processes tab to end firefox.exe, and in doing so I noticed that there are two instances of plugin-container.exe running at any given time. When I close them out, although I can no longer use YouTube or other dynamic sites/pages, the crashing and freezing seems to let up and Firefox seems to run a lot faster.

I even went so far as to completely uninstall Firefox 8.0.1 and reinstall it yesterday, to no avail. I even left off my theme in hopes of alleviating the issue but nothing I do seems to help.

Please assist me, I need Firefox here at my job. None of the links I am finding for Firefox 7 are valid and I don't want to roll back all the way to version 3.6.

After starting firefox, 5 to 10 seconds in it will just spontaneously close. I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox more times than I care to admit. (In fact, I have completely deleted the entire appdata local mozilla folder before installing) I have started in safe mode, still crashes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash, java, and several other things. Still crashes. There is no crash report. When I go to about:crashes, it has nothing. (I need to go there quickly, because after all, it crashes!)

I've read dozens of similar articles, and have carefully tried the directions of every imaginable response, and still it crashes. Resets, reinstalls, disabling addon, safe mode, everything. No other browsers on my system (windows 7) is giving me any problems whatsoever.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:

Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.

IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.

After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:

    (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.

Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.

Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:

Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
    Help Restart with Add-ons Disabled

    https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Tools Options Advanced General Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Hello. I have latest version of Firefox on WIndows 7. Since prior version, Firefox started to crash out of nowhere almost every minute. I've noticed that it crashes mostly when I change/close tabs and when I use anything Flash Player related (such as Youtube).

I tried a clean install and disabling hardware acceleration. None worked for more than a few minutes.

Note that your System Details list shows an old Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800 version.

You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page:

I had no serious problems with Firefox until downloading the current version. Since then I've had frequent crashes, usually several times a day, and even with CTL + ALT + Delete I have difficulty closing Firefox down. The crashes happen more frequently when I leave the program idle for, say, 15 minutes or more or when I attempt to open a contact for editing by directly clicking on the contact name, without checking the box first.
    My anti-virus software is ESET-NOD.

Since the last upgrade my firefox browser crashes many times during the day.

Sorry to hear about the crashes.

When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment and displays the Mozilla Crash Reporter. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

Never had any problems with firefox, but since the 25.0.1 update, I can't watch Netflix for more than 20 minutes, Firefox just crashes.

DB:2.92:Netflix Crashes All The Time Since 25.0.1, Never Done It Before 11

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View Arrange Icons by Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

    Thanks in advance!

    DB:2.91:Firefox Crashes 9f

Over the past week, Firefox continuously crashes. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the program. I tried restarting the settings back to default mode. I opened Firefox in Safe Mode. All of these did not work. It crashes sometimes only a few seconds after opening and other times a few minutes after opening, but it hasn't been open for more than 5-7 minutes at one time without crashing in the last week.

I ran a crash report, but I'm not sure what to do with it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    DB:2.91:Firefox Crashes 9f

You could try to make adjustments in the security software (McAfee??, other antivirus, firewall etc.). Windows safe mode bypasses these and other third-party programs and drivers. Firefox requires a local loopback connection to itself, as well as outgoing connections on at least port 80 and 443. You can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click Properties Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time. Please see this.

    AV/Firewalls Configuration

Also, if the OS network stack is corrupt, it could intermittently affect other internet software like Firefox. You can easily reset the network stack to its defaults, but any custom functionality inserted by the security software and other software may get lost/affected. The Windows OS forum would also be helpful.

A distant possibility could be process hijacking OS malware which may affect Firefox functionality, and also confuse the security software in that it isn't able to reliably recognize Firefox for giving appropriate permissions. If the security software provides logging, you could check the logs for hints.

Win 7, FF5, supposedly up to date...crashes constantly. I was a fool to upgrade. No pattern of sites or actions. Never fewer than half a dozen times and as many as 20 in the course of a working day. I'm sick and tired of looking at that stupid "send us information about your crash so we can laugh at it" window. Any solution other than ditching Firefox and going to Chrome?
