Hi NabX,
Yes this is possible under MOSS 2007. You can either write custom code, or use the free solution on Codeplex:
http://features.codeplex.com
This includes a unique column policy that you can apply to a field in a list. To install this you need to be a farm administrator.
Hope this helps!

What does "not allowing and prompting errors" mean? I assume that means that you're getting an error that the combination of c1 and c2 is not unique, which would imply that you did not delete all the duplicate data. In that case, OraMol's suggestion would seem to be appropriate.

DB:3.18:Generating Unique Attributes On Import To Mv j8
Hi,
I have read a couple of forum threads on the topic but I still don't know how to solve this in elegant way.I remember one post referring to calculation checking for uniqueness during IAF (Extension DLL) and I liked the idea.
It was suggested to check for uniqueness in MV. But wasn't actually describing the way to accomplish that, I was able to do this using a SQL query, but I'm not sure if this is correct. It seems to work correctly, but I'm not sure of consequences it may have.So the import flow from SQL table to MV would look: if the attribute value (to be generated) in MV is empty, and then generate the value using a pretty simple algorithm (concatenating 2 existing attributes) and checking in MV for uniqueness (SQL Query).
I was also considering using a portal workflow to generate the attribute values but it seems to me even more problematic as a lot of workflows run at the same time so it may not guarantee the uniqueness at all.
I would be thankful for any suggestions and comments.
BartDB:3.18:Generating Unique Attributes On Import To Mv j8
Indeed this would substitute my SQL query to MV mms_metaverse table. Thanks, this was really quick and helpful !
Actually looked in the SQL profiler what query is being executed by the FindMVEntries and it seems that it's exactly the same query I was running myself, however, in a probably more supported way.

DB:3.16:Creating Shared Logins In Oracle Istore df
Another option here would be to do this on login, when they login can you attach them to a different Contact on the Organization so they only get what they own (make sure you set the roles so they only see their information). On login update the fnd_user to switch the party they are related to. A couple of potential issues depending on the process:
What if two people login at the same time with the account? Either approach could encounter some pitfalls.Email notifications if you are using them the email address is on the fnd_user, hz_party, hz_contact_points and in the wf tables. So you may want execute a synchronize against the user anytime you switch accounts. Also, if you update before submitting then you might want to remove that notification and build your own.

This whole thread has become surreal.
DB:3.16:Re: Uniqueness Of Hashcode Of String sj
That sounds like it would be unique within the
process space, but will not necessarily produce a
globally unique (GUID) or universally
unique (UUID) identifier. You probably already
know that, and I don't know if that kind of
uniqueness is what is needed in this context.Depending on how you used the optional prefix it could be but it's not really intended for that. I was under the impression it only needed to be unique for a given environment and that they would only be running one process at a time. In that kind of scenario the only potential issue would be someone turning back the machine's time. That could be protected against, but since the chances of getting the exact time again even if they did that are slim I wouldn't bother. -

The constraints I have exist at DB level and I first wanted to get the validation to upper level by using JSF validation without repeatin myself. Doing that would have required me to handle cases where input is valid at first but not when it is persisted.
I now persist the new Bars in validator (ugh) and in case the persisting fails, I rollback the changes and fail the validation.Thanks for the links on validation, they will come handy in other cases!

Hi John. Thanks for responding. I guess this is why I have been avoiding using the 'allow duplicates' function until now. I'm not a fan of it either. In this customer's case, we have need of allowing duplicate aliases. I am forcing uniqueness on member names by using prefixes in all dimensions.
They have a few dimensions that have country names for aliases. They want (need) them to be straight country names.
For now, I have turned off 'allow duplicates' on the one dimension that has three hierarchies because there isn't a need for it there. So, I may have found my work around for the time being. I would prefer to learn how to do this function for future reference.
Thanks
DB:3.10:Re: Creating Shared Members Via Eas Load Rule With Duplicates Allowed af
I spent some time going through this and it seems there is no functionality to do this via a load rule. It looks like you can only do it via EAS. It seems that when the duplicate member functionality was added, load rules were not updated to deal with this. There is a similar issue with ASO where you can't set a couple of properties via load rules. Annoying! I think it stems from the fact that when they built load rules, shared members were not something you could explicitly tag during a load; shared members were implicit based on the fact the member name already existed. I imagine when they first developed it they did not envision duplicate member names and this must be very deep in the code and why they don't fix it (just speculating of course).
Fortunately we have work arounds. For your situation, I would allow the third member that you want to be the shared member, load as a unique member. Set it to dynamic calc with a member formula that references the member you want it to be "Shared" as.
i.e.
KS
--Kansas City (Stored)
MO
--Kansas City (Stored)
Alt Rollup
--Kansas City (Dynamic Calc) [Formula: "[KS].[Kansas City]"; /*pseudo shared member*/ -

Of course, one way to solve this would be to have a separate table for each maintenance task, which would only hold records for each step. But I don't know the number of different tasks, and will likely be adding more and more, so adding a new table each time doesn't make sense. You should use serial number management. There's no point in speaking about batch if you give batch number for each pc of your material.
If you want to give a unique ID for each piece of your material, your "batch" is called serial number...
batch - Longman dictionary:
quantity of food, medicine etc that is produced or prepared at the same time
batch - SAP glossary:
Subset of the total quantity of a material held in stock, which is managed separately from other subsets of the same material.
Examples: different production lots (such as paints, dyes, wallpapers, and pharmaceutical products), delivery lots, quality grades of a material.
serial number - Longman dictionary
a number put on things that are produced in large quantities, so that each one has its own different number:
serial number - SAP glossary
Number that you give to an individual item of material in addition to the material number, in order to differentiate that individual item from all the other items of the material.
The combination of material and serial number is unique.
So, I think you should give the reason why you don't want to use SAP standard solution...and you should justify your requirement because you seem to be against the meaning of batch serial number....

That being said, the risk I run is that I unknowingly have duplicate UIDs in my system that were not detected. However, what I have recently been experiencing is the UID uniqueness plugin being tripped with false positives. Periodically, maybe once per week, or 0.5% of update transactions, an update to the directory will return err=19, tag=105 with the error log stating Attribute Uniqueness as the problem. In each case, simply re-running the LDAP modify yeilds success. Basically the UID uniqueness plugin is reporting a false positive.
The UID is not the naming attribute in our system but is configured identically (applicable subtrees) on each of the servers.
Is there a known scenerio where this can occur? Am I wasting my time having the plugin enabled on each master?

does your system reuse ids? could the system be seeing an entry marked for deletion, and still holds the unique uid value, only when the object is really finally deleted do you see it work, appearing like a false positive?
I forget how to find a deleted entry, but it assigns it a new objectclass and does a modrdn to a guid value, then deletes the entry later. Just a thought. -

Currently I am doing row validation. DataGrid sometime ago used to support bindinggroup.Items to have all the items of grid in it which can then be used to iterate over allthe items and check for uniqueness. But latest DataGrid control doesn't support
that anymore. Now bindinggroup.Items contains only one item which is the one just edited.
I want some sugesstions on how to attach ValidationRule to validate column or for that matter just give me Itessource as one of the parameter that I can traverse for validation.
Can I create an attached property and attach a validationRule to that. The validationRule should get ItemsSource of grid as one of its parameters which can then be used to iterate over it and check for uniqueness. Any thoughts?Thanks,

Uniqueness is tied to a single column.The Views inside of IS doesn't appear to allow you to concatenate fields. One thing that you might do is create a View in the database itself where you combine these fields and then profile that view inside of Data Insight.

Attribute uniqueness plugin only ensure uniqueness on a single master before the entry is added. It doesn't check replicated operation since they have already been accepted and a positive result was returned to the client. So in a multiMastered environment, it is still possible to add 2 identical attributes, if like you're saying you're adding the entries at the same time on both master servers.
We're working on a solution to have Attribute Uniqueness working in a multiMastered environment. But we're worried about its impact on performances we may get with it.

DB:2.98:Re: Using Attribute Uniqueness With Multi-Master Replication? j1
Hi,
I'm trying to use attribute uniqueness in a iDS 5.1 multi-master replication env. I have created a plug-in instance for the attribute (memberID) on each directory instance (same installation on NT) and tested (if I try to create a duplicate value under the same instance I get a constraint error as expected). However if I create a entry under one instance and then create a second entry (different DN) with the same attribute value on the second instance, the entry is written with no complaints? If I create the entries with an identical DN, then the directory automatically adds nsuniqueID to the RDN of the second entry to maintain DN uniqueness but it doesn't seem to mind about duplicate values within the entry despite the plug-in?
BTW I've tested MMR and it is working and I'm using a subtree to enforce uniqueness.

DB:2.96:How To Do Update Instead Of Insert / Cancel The Insert dm
Hello,
we are porting an application, written originally for PostgreSQL, to Oracle. Most of the porting is pretty straightforward - change column types, simple trigger syntax changes etc.
But we have a table (more precisely several tables) with a set of triggers, holding a tree-like structure. The point is in PostgreSQL we're using a RETURN NULL; behavior in BEFORE triggers, which means 'do nothing' to simplify thing.
For example imagine tables A and B - and in a trigger on B we could have something like
...
INSERT INTO A VALUES (id, ...)
...without a check on a uniqueness of the id value. And in a BEFORE INSERT trigger on A we have something like
...
SELECT INTO c id FROM A where id = NEW.id;
IF FOUND THEN
UPDATE A SET .... WHERE id = NEW.id;
-- cancel the insert without an exception
RETURN NULL;
END IF;
...which checks for existence of the row, and if it already exists it effectively replaces with UPDATE and cancels the INSERT without an exception.
Is there something like this in Oracle or do I have to completely rewrite / refactor the whole thing?
PS: We do have UNIQUE (more precisely PRIMARY KEY) on the columns - I am aware that this is not sufficient to enforce uniqueness in Oracle.

Thanks John, the solution using a view seems very nifty to me. I guess it will require relatively small (if any) changes in application code when compared to MERGE.

DB:2.94:How To Disable Requirement Title Uniqueness ? 18
Yes, the PK includes the stereotype. You can use them just about everywhere to give another level of abstraction. They have a lot of features like adding custom attributes or collections at the stereotype level. One of the most helpful and simple is custom symbols in your diagrams. For me a custom symbol is not usually a symbol change (except in EAM), but just a format change. So in your example you could add a custom symbol for Active Objects that changes only the background color to green, and Inactive Objects background to yellow. Then your diagrams are easier to understand (and prettier ) I always create a custom symbol for all of my "Lookup" tables. In some analysis I have ended up with 5X the number of lookups over base tables. Having different background colors automatically assigned by stereotype really clarified the overall diagrams. I usually keep one diagram I call Top that has every object in the model so I get a global view. Having different colors for different types of objects makes this a usable model.If you go the color route spend some time up front creating a palette ("add to custom colors") you can use across your models or enterprise. That way things are consistent and you avoid color clashes (hello Sybase). Am I the only one that things the art director for Sybase and PD was colorblind? Every time I see the default background color for a PDM table I think of my kids - actually their dirty diapers.
If you haven't, check out the PD MetaModel, under Help. It will help you understand PD better and also give you some real appreciation for the original design.

hi every body,
When I read the related book about uniqueness conflict all of the says one of the way to resolve it is to append site name.
So for primary key I thought before any insert in a table in the application I append site name to the sequence then I insert into the table so with this manere i can avoid primary key conflict and I do not need to add uniqueness conflict resolution for my primary key.
Is it correct?
The reason why I ask you this question is that in all books they have written that you can use uniqueness conflict resolution in this case ,but i don't want to use that so before any insert i conncat the site name to the sequence to avoid uniqueness conflict then i insert the row.Do you think that my approach is correct ?

Your change in code is doing correct. I just wanted to know the logic change which you did.I am just concerned for uniqueness of ASCII values in the long run when data grows.
DB:2.89:Re: How To Generate Unique Ascii Value For A String Of Characters dj
I have to generate incremental data records in PL SQL.
My logic is, store for each row the ASCII value of concatenated columns in that row.
So if in the future, for generating incremental data (generate data only in case if there is any modification), if any change in the record, the ASCII value will be different and on comparing the ASCII values of new and old records, I can generate only the incremental data.
Well it doesn't make much sense to add a new column and do all that work when you have to compare every column anyway.Just compare the new data column by column with the old data. There must be SOMETHING you can use for a primary key. If the new key doesn't exist it is a new row so just insert it.If the new key exists then do the column by column comparison to determine which columns changed. -

Hi,
Explain how to validate two applications using an automated test suite!? when the applications might not be testable!!?
I'd need to write a book! Eh... two books!!. Have a look at a tool called NUnit. This is a testing framework that can be used to test applications. Problem you've got is the application you have is legacy (using the term from the point of viem that legacy
is code that has no tests) ... and not designed to be testable.
Well ok it's not ideal .... look at NUnit and read up on integration testing, your going to have to test large sections of your code base at a time. That means your going to have a difficult time setting up context for the test.Actually you know what might help forget NUnit, look into Pex. This is an experimental tool that will generate test code for you, it uses MsTest, Microsofts NUnit clone. That might do a lot for you. Used it once as an experiment.
Best I can do for now, need to be somewhere.…we each have more potential than we might ever presume to guess. (Blog: http://dsmyth.blogspot.com/)

No, it doesn't always need to be a number.If
the rows naturally have some uniqueness in them,
there is no need to create yet another numericcolumn
to serve as the primary key.It's safer to have a meaningless key, whether numeric
or not. It's more resistent to future change than
relying on the natural uniqueness of your data.So you'd suggest always having doing that? I certainly wouldn't, and would argue that there are TONS of existing corporate tables out there and new ones created every day that don't. Simple case - a table of US states, where the key is the state abbreviation. No need to create some additional meaningless column to serve as the key.DB:2.88:Re: How To Increment A String??? fc
I'm just saying I'm sure there are lots of cases
where tables have natural keys so they don't
need an additional made-up surrogate key added. It
would be a mistake to say you should always
create a surrogate key.Eh. There is never a time that I know of when an artificial key can be harmful, and I don't know of any benefits to natural keys. OTOH, there are times when one thinks a natural key will be fine but later that turns out to be wrong. So I would say it really is a good idea to always use a meaningless key. My 2 cents. -

Hashtables, just like arrays ( are expected to ) grow once you exceed the
initial (setup) size. The size that is specified at the creation time is
only the initial size. When you add more elements than what it can
accomodate, the effective size of the hashtable is increased by making one
(or more ) of the bucket pointers to point to sub-tables/arrays.Eventhough the rearrangement is transparent to the programmer, you should
note that the performance of the look-up algorithm might reduce slightly
with each "growth".Forte technote 10971 ( LargeArrays, and Hash Tables )nicely explains how
these data structures are managed.Hope this helps,

Subject: (forte-users) Max size of a hash table.
Date: Tue, 20 Mar 2001 12:05:45 -0500We are trying a performance test and have discovered that the hash table
data structure has a max limit of 32767. The setup() method would not take
anything more than 32767 for the size parameter. The documentation does not
say anything about a max limit for a hash table. Evidently it is using a
signed integer of 2 bytes for the size.We have been using the hash table to check for the uniqueness of a large
data set of 100,000 ids (rather than looping through the set for each id).
Any duplicates raise an exception which is trapped to validate the
duplicates. We could probably set the size of the hash table to 32767 if we
are sampling more than that many ids but I am not sure about the
performance
if we do so. Will try thoughAny comments, suggestions or insight will be appreciated.

hi all,
I have a couple modeling concerns, as they relate to MDS 2012:
1. Is it possible/advisable to have just one entity created out of a table that has P/C relationships for *multiple* hierarchies?
Say I have a table with the following columns:HierarchyName varchar(10)
ParentCode varchar(10)
ChildCode varchar(10)where the same ChildCode may belong in multiple hierarchies, having the *same* or *different* parents?
Currently, not seeing how this is possible, because the ChildCode (as far as MDS is concerned, needs to be unique across the entity) our solution is to have one entity per hierarchy. Is this the day to do it (creating one entity per hierarchy)?
2. Compound columns determining uniqueness:
Say we have a table, such as below, where all 4 columns hold the uniqueness of the row:Code varchar(10)
StartDate date
StartTime date
isActive bit
Is this possible in MDS, without creating a large concatenated field (of the 4)?It seems that MDS requires the CODE attribute to be unique so the only feasible way to implement multi-column uniqueness is to concatenate these fields, and then parse them out, after the fact, with a business rule or such. Or, just create an identity
key for the Code attribute and manage the 4 column uniqueness in a business rule.
thx a bunch for any feedback onto these modeling quandaries. :-)

DB:2.86:Query A Web Site Javadb 13
Hi
Apologies for the basic nature of this question but I'm looking for a bit of inspiration.
I am trying to work out the best way to check the uniqueness (of a user input to a web page) against records held in a javadb table located in the same web site directory. Put simply, if a user enters say the the word 'pass' then I would like to query the table to see if it already exists. If it did then I will display a message to the user.
I would like to create a java class that will do this but the only web site resource at my disposal is the cgi_bin directory. I am sure that I can invoke the java class from a cgi script but how to return the query results from the class has me stumped.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

They are few and far between unfortunately
A cheap USA host is DailyRazor - who are good...but IF anything goes wrong, their technical support is absolutely aweful - the worst I've ever come across, practically non-existant (I could rant all day about how aloof they are about customer satisfaction).
If you find a good, cheap host, then please post the site here, I'm sure I'm not the only person looking for somewhere cheaper to host my sites.

Hi,In the release notes I'm reading the following:

· You can now copy and paste a vertical list from Excel to the Resource Picker input box. This is especially useful for doing bulk Adds.
· The UOC text box now lets you check uniqueness using a custom XPATH statement that you provide.Note

Hi, It appears to work but it does not work correctly. You cannot use the same XPATH validation filter from the CREATE mode in the EDIT mode. The XPATH validation filter has to be slightly different!

DB:2.83:Staging Table Records Uniqueness ap
Hi,
I am loading the records into the staging table using SQL LOADER. The staging table has the following columns:
TRANS_DATE
TRANS_AMT
TRANS_STATUS
DATE_CREATED.
I need to check before sql loader loads data into staging table, if records in the staging table has TRANS_STATUS is "PROCESSED" for a TRANS_DATE, then the same TRANS_DATE should not be allowed to load into oracle staging table thru sql loader again. How can I achieve this?
Thanks in advance.
DB:2.83:Staging Table Records Uniqueness ap
Hello user1175432.
As damorgan has suggested, there are going to be better ways to approach row-by-row decision making. The suggestions of loading to a temporary load table or using an external table are both useful here.However, you can accomplish the task by simply passing the TRANS_DATE value to a function that performs the lookup desired and in the instance that it finds a corresponding PROCESSED status, throw an exception (this way you could control the error message) or output an invalid value (if you are simply doing a proof of concept, but I wouldn't consider this supportable or advisable beyond that development stage). Of course, the function would simply return the TRANS_DATE value if the record should be loaded.
You will increase the complexity of your error checking routine for contents in the SQL*Loader log file and bad data file by using this approach.
Hope this helps,

DB:2.83:Jpa Uniqueness Constraint On Columns zm
Hi all,
I have a very simple data structure which has
- the key (String) of another data class
- a Date (using TemporalType.DATE)
- an integer valuebut the combination of the timestamp and the key makes for a unique identifier. I could quite easily add an additional 4th @Column into my @Entity that is my @Id, but I'd rather investigate how JPA can help me setup a custom @Id that is the combination of the key and the timestamp value. It would be good to be able to let the database manage the uniqueness, instead of me having to programmatically handle (and check) it in JPA-QL queries.
Is this a classic case of @EmbeddedId or @IdClass? If so, it seems like an awful lot of boilerplate code to achieve what I want. Is what I am proposing even recommended? Is there perhaps another way to achieve uniqueness for the combination of these two columns?
DB:2.83:Jpa Uniqueness Constraint On Columns zm
In general I would recommend using a generated Id, but yes, your example is a case for using an @EmbeddedId or @IdClass.

In Service Now we have noticed duplicate numbering of tickets. We have unique watermark prefixes set up as well as the javascript: getNextObjNumberPadded(): in the default value for the Number field. In the wiki it mentions that out-of-box, numbering does not enforce uniqueness. Although it would be rare that a duplicate number would be assigned, uniqueness is not enforced. To enforce uniqueness, see Requiring Unique Values for a Field. I read through this and it has you check the box 'Unique' on the form. Whenever I do this I get a Key Violation. I have deleted all of the duplicate numbers (I am in DEV) and I still keep getting the violation even though I do not have dups. Is there other conditions that the unique value looks for?Thoughts?Please and Thank you,ShirleyDB:2.83:Unique Numbering - Duplicates x7

DB:2.81:Unique And Nonunique Indexes 3k
Hello people,
can somebody explain to me, what the hell am I missing?
What enforces the unique value when you create primary or a unique key? I thought it's a unique index, but that turned out to be wrong....
create table test1 (no number primary key);
select index_name,uniqueness
from user_indexes
where table_name ='TEST1';INDEX_NAME UNIQUENESS
------------------------------ ----------
SYS_C0017897 UNIQUE
/OK, this works. Exactly as one would expect. But, If I create a table without primary key, create a nonunique index on it and then add the primary key, the index doesn't change.
create table test2 (no number);
create index test2_idx on test2(no);
alter table test2
add constraint test2_pk primary key (no);select index_name,uniqueness
from user_indexes
where table_name ='TEST2';INDEX_NAME UNIQUENESS
------------------------------ ----------
TEST2_IDX NONUNIQUE
/insert into test2 values(1); this goes ok
insert into test2 values(1); and here I get an errorSo, it doesn't allow duplicate values...well, that's good
When I queried the index above it shows that it's nonunique.
So, I came to conclusion that I don't need it anymore and decided to drop it.drop index TEST2_IDX ;
and I got
ORA-02429: cannot drop index used for enforcement of unique/primary key
So, I' have a nonunique index that is enforcing uniqueness on primary key. And I have a headache, because I don't understand what's going on.
Same thing would happen if I created a column, then created a nonunique index on it and finally added a nonunique constraint.
The index would still be NONUNIQUE.
I was coming to conclusion that it's not the index that is preforming the uniqueness check, so I tested the following - create a column with unique index without unique key.
create table test3(no number);
create unique index test3_idx on test3(no);
insert into test3 values(1);
insert into test3 values(1); - errorORA-00001: unique constraint (TEST.TEST3_IDX) violated
00001. 00000 - "unique constraint (%s.%s) violated"So index is enforcing it.
Can somebody please tell me, what am I missing? I came to conclusion that Oracle sometimes doesn't care if index is unique or not.

The mechanism is version dependent. Obviously you assume everyone is using the same version and/or Oracle never changes, so that is why typing 4 digits and three dots is too cumbersome for you.
The other part of the issue is this is a documented feature: an primary key can be enforced by a non-unique index.
Apparently you don't -like 99.999 percent of all people asking questions here - read documentation.
As you don't provide a version I sadly can't provide a link.
I recommend before you start wasting your time by setting up testcases and posting them here you read documentation.--------------

Two ways to do this.
For the simple case like yours you can simply check against each value to see it is unique. If it is not unique then randomize it until a unique value is returned.
The complex case is used with more numbers, or where checking the uniqueness is difficult or time consuming, or if you need to randomise the entire range. Typically you create the entire range of possibilities in a list. Then remove that item from the list once it is created, meaning it can never be selected again.DB:2.81:How Do Ensure That A Series Of Int's Are Never The Same? d3

Oracle will raise an error when it commit the record which
contains the duplicate key value.But we can write a simple select statement in the post-text-
item trigger to avoid the duplicate values.declare
var_empno emp.empno%type;begin
select empno into var_empno from emp
where empno = :emp_block.empno;message ('Already Exists ');
exception
when no_data_found then
null;
end;In this code let us assume, the emp is the base table, emp_blcok
is the block for emp table, empno is a primary key in that table
and the var_empno is a temporary variable.When a user type a value in the field and jumps to next filed
this code will fetch the empno from the emp table by matching
the entered empno with table's data.If the value is not there it will fire exception. In that
exception null is available. So no problem. That means the key
value is not there.If the key value is already there, it won't fire exception, it
will come to the next statement. That is the message statement.Using this code you can avoid duplicate key values.

Forgive me if I have missed this but I have a generate uniqueness problem
I have written a few powershell scripts that run using a Portal Powershell WF Activity.. one creates a file and URL safe SHA token bla bla all goodI have written a script that tries to generate a unique attribute in the Portal using first middle third preferred and lastname and i=1 do until loop at the end bla bla
BUT my testingthat imports, sync's and exports to FIMMA 10 identical first middle third preferred and lastname identities (good test huh !) fails uniqueness generation.
Well the PS script fires and checks the derived name from the script login is not in AD ORnot in Portal BUT at the time the first 'n' WF fire in parallel a match was not found in AD or Portal. Consequently all 'n' WF try and
DO populate the same value to the destination attr.
The unique but duplicate attribute occurs because the 10 identites cause an un-anticiapted duplicate becasue they all fire their WF in sequence but run in parallel at the same time. If these 10 were spilt over time or over sequence (meaning if they occured
somewhere in a stream of 1500 identites that fire the same WF then I might never generate a duplicate)I have enforced unique validation for create and edit user objects for this attribute in RCDC and then worked out this XPATH check only applies FROM the portal not a WF that hits the FIM :5725
I have some ideas to minmise the possible duplication but wondered how I can enforce uniqueness when the attribute neither exists in AD nor the Portal but another WF is queued to used the same value.Hope thi smakes sense
Any ideas please ?

Hi Nisha,yes, "Creating a new field and importing values in that and then deleting the original" is one option.
But please also give a try first by reimporting data. Try below steps to solve your issue:
Open import manager and your data map. Change the "Set tuple update" from "Update mapped records" with "Replace". (* I am not sure what matching fields you have defined in Tuple upate option. if needed then please change them as per need)
After changing the tuple update option to replace, import data using updated map and let us know if this solves your problem.

Now the problems I have is:-For the IP column in the server table and in the VM_IP table, I need this column to be unique in these two tables, so for example the database should not allow a server and a VM to have the same IP. In the current design I can only guarantee uniqueness
for the table separately.
So can anyone advice on how I can handle this unique requirement on the databases level.Regards

DB:2.77:Re: Unique Constraint On Valid_To And Valid_From Dates p3
Not sure what you are asking since the title conflicts with the description.
For description i.e.
How can I enforce uniqueness such that at any one point in time, only one row exists in the table for each name?
Why can't you just create a unique constraint on name field to solve this ?DB:2.77:Re: Unique Constraint On Valid_To And Valid_From Dates p3
If you are willing to spend some time to try things out the following approach could be interesting. I'm not sure yet if this concept would hold but It looks promising and challenging.
Maybe it would be possible to create your own domain index by using a new indextype. This indextype would serialize the FROM and TO column range to some leaf blocks on the index.
Either by creating separate index entries for each day (could give trouble with intra day overlaps).
Index
A
_ Day 1
_ Day 2
_ Day 3
B
_ Day 1
_ Day 2
...Then declare this index as unique (in combination with one other column).
If somebody tries to enter a new range value for A from Day 2 o Day 4, the index should raise en error, because its uniquness on A - Day 2 and A - Day 3 is violated.
Or by using some (mutating table select) on the index. A domain index is if I understood correctly just some IOT that is referenced when using this index object. Uniqueness could be enforced on this table. This would be almost the same concept as with a trigger, but could be implemented much faster and with less coding overhead for other tables too.

I would also be interested in the answer to that question because I don't know of a way to access database data from Javascript. But until we get that answer, you could use the following SQL to check that the table doesn't already contain someone with name.
declare
empno varchar2(7);
empname varchar2(20);
begin
--- Get the user name
empname := p_session.get_value_as_VARCHAR2(
p_block_name = 'DEFAULT',
p_attribute_name = 'A_USERNAME',
p_index = 1);
--- See if that name already exists in the database
SELECT COUNT(*) into empno
FROM IRUSER
WHERE username = empname);
IF empno 0
THEN
--- The user doesn't exist, add the new record
doInsert;--- This is the default handler
ELSE
--- The user exists, put an error message on the status bar
p_session.set_value(
p_block_name = 'DEFAULT',
p_attribute_name = '_STATUS',
p_value = 'User already exists');
end if;
end;Put the code into your Insert button.

PriyaDB:2.76:Record Exists Or Not c1
Sure...you can key off the request ID. It is not unique to the form, unless you use a prefix and you are certain the prefix isn't used anywhere else. I do enough importing and exporting of records where I choose NOT to use a request ID as my unique key value as it can change. Whereas if you use a GUID (like an instance ID) as your unique field, the value will not change if you happen to import it to another system and generate a new request ID which will then break the link.. Either will work to identify the record. It just depends on how flexible you want to configuration to be. -

DB:2.74:Re: Alternative For Sequences In Rac Environment cd
Hi All,
Thanks for the reply
For our sequences in Oracle, we not only require the uniqueness but also ordering of sequences.
To give precise example, we are sending the files to other interfaces, we have sent the file XXXX000001.xx to them, and then the next file they are expecting is XXXX000002.xx.
If we are going for CACHE (ex. 1000), then for one instance the sequence increment happen like 1 to 1000 and then might be 2000 to 3000.
We have other scenario in which also we require behavior of number with uniqueness and ordering.
I am reiterating the problem we are facing with these sequences of NOCACHE and ORDER. This has an ORDER and NOCACHE means for every NEXTVAL, it needs to check against all the instances to sychronize itself. We have large no. of transactions which increment sequences.
Please get back to me if you require some other information also.
Regards,
ManojDB:2.74:Re: Alternative For Sequences In Rac Environment cd
For our sequences in Oracle, we not only require the uniqueness but also ordering of
sequences.
This is a violation of relational design. A surrogate key (which is the purpose of a sequence) only guarantees uniqueness - nothing more.Trying to enforce some kind of physical ordering of rows based on a number, is also missing the fundamentals of server programming, server performance, and server scalability.
"Serialisation kills performance!" (say this phrase repeatedly until enlightenment is achieved)
Heck, even from a business perspective your so-called requirement reeks. Take a business that writes invoices. Typically there will be more than one invoice book in order for more than one salesperson to make out an invoice (serialisation kills performance!). Some invoices can be made out incorrectly and land in the dustbin. Invoice books can be checked out in the wrong chronological order from stationary). Etc.
Numerous factors that can and will ensure that the invoices made out by the business is not made out in a nice ascending numerical order. Not that it ever matters as there is an invoice date.
But your requirement is so special and so unique, that it not only violates relational design and fundamental RDBMS scalability, it is also contrary to every common sense business process flow...? Yeah right.

e.g read through some posts here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5031614/the-jpa-hashcode-equals-dilemma
The main thing is that you understand both strategies (their pros and cons) so that you know what to expect when you use one of those strategies. -

I think Carlos wants to drop the UNIQUE constraint on the name column, not the primary key constraint.
If that is the case, he will need to know the name of the constraint (by querying user_cons_columns) and issuing:
ALTER TABLE table_name DROP CONSTRAINT constraint_name;
And, if incapable of querying the dictionary, then using DBA Studio to drill down graphically to the constraint and clicking the checkbox to disable it.

Is there some sort of unique identifier? Because you could have more than one person with the same name which would mean you would have to check the address to for uniqueness. As Jverd says a map and a count is probably the only way left with what you have. Use some unique key like there first name, last name and house number (which still has some problems) and read them into a buffer reader adding a new object to the map for each new name and increasing a count when the same name/identifier appears more than once.

Characters in Java are 2 bytes, so the limit on
uniques hashcodes (theoretically) is 2 characters.In the case of the Java primitive type char you're right of course but I clearly stated I was talking about one-byte characters in general and then I'm right. Characters represented with one byte is still a common situation and the fact that the Java char holds two bytes doesn't change that. So when dealing with one-byte chacters why waste half the available space in the hashcode for storing two 0 bytes?Conclusion: You can create a unique int hashcode from a string of up to 4 one-byte characters.
