I think before uprooting the whole system, let us think about the compatibility issue among NOSCRIPT, ADBLOCK and flash media handler/downloader. Sometimes back there was a permission issue needing explicit entry of a script in allowed list under 'Tools' menu. The details were sent as when noscript got updated autonotified.

But I am again in the rut, because I tried to install latest version with minimum plugins/addons for faster work.

    hello everybody,

i have windows xp (sp3) on a gigabyte (GA-945PL-S3) motherboard.
so recently just before this file missing problem come up i noticed that windows freezes when opening folders . (i dont know if this freeze is related to the missing file problem or not .but i felt its good to mention it).
and one day i was working as usual on windows suddenly the system crashes and reboot and i get this message (\system32/config/system missing or corrupt).
so i format drive c: and did a fresh install of win xp and intalled the updated drivers. 1st day everything was okay and normal and the freeze is gone , but next day when i started winxp it crashes again and give me the same message .
i've tried replacing the missing files with the same result. tried two different WinXP CD's with same result . so i figure its not an installation problem!

the wired thing is the system works normally after installation in first day and i install the windows updates just fine. but the problem keeps showing up in the 2nd day (crash reboot and file missing) .i dont have any special programs on system just Firefox
    and vlc.

i dont think its a virus because i scanned my pc with 3 different anti-virus programs with no results .
which made me think is this a hardware problem ?
i've checked and updated my Bios and they look fine !
i've checked the hard drive and fined some bad sectors but i dont know if they are related to the problem !
and one more thing i noticed on the startup boot screen this message lately (CpuID 0f49 patch id :0003) sometimes it appears and sometimes not.!

sorry for the long story and thanks

Firefox 9.0.1 freezes on a frequent basis when I use tabbed browsing. I click and drag links to the toolbar (as a new tab) and it freezes when I try to release it. Firefox becomes unresponsive at this point. If I wait, it can take, anywhere from 10 seconds to much longer for Firefox to return to a usable state. This problem happens frequently enough that it has become a nuisance. I have noticed this problem on both Windows 7 and 8 (64 bit). Is there a fix?

Are there a lot of sites that have trouble with Safari? I noticed that Rogers seems anti-Apple lately, but I can no longer view my bill online when I log in to Rogers. I chatted with a rep online and was told that I need to use a different browser because Safari has been causing them a lot of trouble lately. Safari cannot be used to view my bill. I need to use Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. Can a fix to Safari be made, or could this be a Rogers problem that is blamed on Safari?

DB:2.98:Trouble Viewing Rogers Bills Using Safari fs

You're absolutely right - Rogers employees are so anti-Apple, it's disgusting. While in a Rogers Wireless store to simply pick up a SIM card for my iPhone, the two fandroids working there were pushing people very hard to buy Samsung products instead of what they asked for.As a web designer myself, I can tell you that it is very poor coding (or lazy, or perhaps...malevolent?) to create a page that doesn't work on Safari. I would be terribly embarrassed if I designed a site that wouldn't work with one of the major browsers. So should Rogers. No excuse. Shameful. They have angered me so much that when it was time to buy an iPhone for my daughter, I didn't even consider Rogers. Indeed, when my own contract comes up for renewal, I will be switching carriers. My goal is to persuade my entire workplace to switch as well. Maybe that would sting enough for them to rethink their anti-Apple mandate.

    Hi,

When we run automation testing of our product, it works well in firefox old versions and IE. But when we run it in firefox 17 it crashes. We noticed that in firefox 10, each task in automation was opened in new windows and ran smoothly. But in firefox 17, each task opens in new tab and the number of tabs opened crosses 50 and finally crashes. We tried with various troubleshooting methods discussed in your blog. But no help.

What is the change in firefox 17 that it makes each task opened in new tabs?
Or what is the setting we need to set so that each task opens in new window?

We have hundreds of test cases.
This bug is a blocker for certification of firefox 17 for our product.

It could be helpful if there is a diagnostic program/add-on which control all

    installed add-ons.

It could even be helpful If I can type/write more as 1500 characters in a

message, because I have to tell my story (Mozilla problems) and I want to
place the output of the 'terminal' (Sessionstore) in the same message.

It even shall be helpful if there is a list (like in the early days of the Windows-

browser), where I can find the description and/or the solution of the Firefox- errors. My terminal give me p.e. this output : (firefox:10353): Gtk-CRITICAL
    **: IA__gtk_clipboard_set_with_data: assertion `targets != NULL' failed;
Firefox: 10353 says me nothing, so..... there are errors enough, but the
crashes don't come from the browser. I have taken all steps, my last is to
    re-install FF24 about:blank, vdpau.... e.s.o

    If I place a message here I can only put a picture-file, not a text or Gedit-file.

Hey everyone, not quite sure where to find assistance on the issue I've just recently got so I decided to give these forums a try, praying for the best!

So the issue in hand is my internet connection has become extremely unstable the last couple of weeks. It can be every 2 minutes or every 5 hours but it crashes for a second or two. Alot.

I permanently have League of legends, Skype, Ventrilo, Twitchs website, and several webpages running (so fair to say im a heavy user) however lately these crashes have been happening alot. They happen more frequently when I start twitch, or the league client, or refresh a webpage, but my whole internet crashes.

Now what I've noticed is that when the crash happens my wireless adapter goes red, as if it crashes or something? (explaining why for a second or two I have no internet) however why the adapater, or the internet crashes, I have no idea.

At first I thought it was my internet so I took my PC to a friends house, tried a different wifi, same problem. So its fair to assume its not ISP related?

Any helpful information I'll appretiate alot,

I have a large number of tabs open on Firefox, and while this had never been a problem before, all of the sudden, the program crashes. What happens is that when I get the tabs loaded, Firefox will attempt to reload these tabs, which it had not done in the past, and because of so many tabs trying to reload, it crashes the program. Also, when I click on a tab, it reloads it as well, again, something that had never happened in the past. I need to know what I can do to stop this from happening, so I can once again enjoy using Firefox.

Firefox consistently crashes at least 5 times per day.

Have tried to resolve the issue multiple ways, reinstalling firefox, updating software, removing plugins, removing and reinstalling flash, etc.

Typically the crashes will say the plugin container has crashed. I even found a way to disable that and firefox still crashes.

Nope. As far as add ons go I used to have two or three. When it started crashing, I reset firefox and they've all since been removed in an attempt to stop them from happening. This dates back almost a year ago. After it still continued crashing, I made a new profile and as I stated, and it worked for a short period of time. After that though, the crashes went from once a day to three or four times a day.

All I've ever installed since then are shockwave and java. And I've done the complete uninstall of shockwave. Where you download the uninstaller and do it the correct way before reinstalling it. And I always update.

As far as the crashes themselves go.. I can't even pin point out what specifically causes them. They happen randomly. I know earlier you stated something about the memory, but usually all I have open is the browser itself. No additional programs except my anti-virus. It will still crash. It crashes when I'm using the computer, or I'll walk away computer and come back, and it has crashed then also.. It crashes when I have other programs open, or when I don't. There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind it.

The only thing I can think is, I work from home. And keep certain pages up so that I can easily restore my sessions without having to save 100 bookmarks/search through history. Could there possibly be some sort of corruption with the session itself that causes it to continuously crash?

    Do a clean (re)install:

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
It may not be necessary to create a new profile, so first try if it works with your current profile and if not then create a new profile.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

    https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools Add-ons Extensions Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Hello. Crash Reporter from my MacBook Pro with a cable modem has always been very slow to report crashes after I push the Close Firefox button -- often it takes five minutes or more to complete. I fear that I often don't have time to wait or doubt that the tool and server are "working," so I close the tool.

That means I have maybe 20 to 30 pending reports.

Lately many are related to startup, so they could be worthwhile.

Is there a way to bulk submit, or should I just delete them?

Sorry, if this topic has already been discussed...But I am on the verge of breaking something (and hopefully it won't be my macbook)...I am having a very frustrating time with Leopard/java/flash....

I was getting a ridiculous amount of crashes and "hangs" using firefox. I quickly noticed that these problems were occurring with websites that uses a lot of flash/java plugins, etc...So, what I did was stopped using firefox and used the "reliable" and "best" browser safari. Then I quickly noticed I was getting the same crashes and hangs on the same websites (espn.com; crooks and liars, etc...) So, I reverted back to firefox and disabled flash and seemed to work fine, but then, a new problem surfaced....

Now, with flash blocked, on random times and multiple times, firefox just stops functioning. Pictures won't load, text loads over each other...Then, when I try to shut down firefox it won't exit. So, I have to force-quit the program and launch everything again...So, I get crashes and hangs with flash enabled, and I get "idle" firefox with flash disabled.

Sorry for the long post...Does anybody have any suggestions or fixes???

    Thanks

I started getting frustrated lately with all the Firefox crashes and did some experimenting with other browsers. Yes, I got crashes on Safari too. But I found that Camino was a great lightweight browser and I have yet to have any crashes with it. The bad thing is, it is not a versatile. There are no add-ons. I think that the cocoa language in more native to Mac's and it seems to do much better with transitions.

It seems rather lame that you can't set mail to just
use UTF-8, instead of automaticly choosing what it
    thinks is best.

There is a way to try and do that. Quit Mail and open Terminal and type the following (plus Return):

    defaults write com.apple.mail NSPreferredMailCharset "UTF-8"

Another way to force UTF-8 is to include a Unicode dingbat in the body of the message, such as Character Palette 2701.

I got my old Firefox back with Windows 7 Home Premium by right clicking on the Firefox desktop icon, clicking on Properties, then opening Compatibility,
scrolling down to Settings and checking the radio buttons for "Disable Visual Themes" (which helps some) and "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" (which helps even more!). Then, I clicked "Apply" and then "OK" if it lets me.
The pop-up window may disappear right after you click "Apply". Let it do its
thing. You may have to also click "OK" after "Apply". Anyway, when I got back
to my desktop, I rebooted just to be on the safe side.
I'm now surfing at the old, fast, Firefox way and lovin' it! Speed regained and no more hanging, waiting, reloading a web page! Hope this helps.

DB:2.75:Adobe Flash Crashing Every Time - Mac/Firefox mc

Every time I try to use something that runs Flash, it crashes. I'm running Firefox 5.0 on a MacBook Pro, and I just updated both Flash and Firefox following Mozilla's instructions to try both if Flash kept crashing. It still won't work. I'm trying to upload pictures to my Flickr account and when it tries to open Flash so I can select my pictures, it crashes immediately. Using the Flickr Downloadr has the same result.

I've been having problems with PSE 9 crashing lately as well, ever since I got a new camera and have been editing .NEF image files. Any chance these issues are related?

In any case, can someone help me get Flash to stop crashing?

While running Firefox, I noticed the error:

This seems very odd. I do not have an Nvidia card. And I do not have that Nvidia driver installed. Why would Firefox be trying to call it?

Hello Luigi, Why in heavens name would Call of Duty, one of the most top selling games in the world, not be compatible with Microsoft Internet Exployer 9?
Your answer was honest in your opinion but it is not correct. There must be more underlying operations going on with IE9 than in IE8. The game manufacturer, Activision said they are compatible with IE8, so IE9 must have more checks and
balances built in that is causing many applications to run slowly.
    thanks for your answer Bruno,
    ron

    Ronald C. Mucci

I agree with you opinion, but something like this happened the same way when moving from Windows XP to Windows Vista: the new operating system has more and imporoved features, but most applications stop working because of the OS internals differences; maybe
something similar is happening with the latest Internet Explorer release.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.

On Windows 7 running Firefox 3.6.10, I cannot print to a Windows 7 network printer. Firefox crashes every time as soon as I hit print.

However, the situation is very specific. I can print from Windows XP using Firefox 3.6.10 to a Windows 7 network printer. I can also print from Windows 7 using Firefox 3.6.10 to a Windows XP network printer. The only situation that doesn't work is using Firefox and printing from Windows 7 machine to Windows 7 machine.

Firefox is also the only program that does not print. I can print using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, MS Word, MS Excel, and every other application just fine. Firefox is exclusive in that it is the only program that crashes and refuses to print. The drivers that are being used a PostScript drivers.

I have tried multiple versions of Firefox from older ones to the Firefox 4 beta and the program crashes every time.

Again, the only time it crashes is printing from a Windows 7 client computer to a Windows 7 network printer. Printing from XP to Windows 7 and from Windows 7 to XP works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only program I've noticed the problem with is Firefox, so I'm assuming it's a problem at the application level.

I solved the problem. It ended up being a driver issue. I was using the correct most up to date PS driver for the printer and it worked with every application but Firefox. When I switched to the manufacturers Universal Print PS drivers, it worked perfectly fine in Firefox as well as all the other applications.

Hello, try to update your driver and check it again

Intel® HD graphics Driver for Windows 7* and Windows 8* 32-bit

Intel® HD graphics Driver for Windows 7* and Windows 8* 64-bit

if you update the drivers and you have the issue again then try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

    Then perform these steps:

Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools Options.
In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL

    Hi.

I work as an IT consultant for a private college and we use Firefox as our default web browser because some of the educational web portals that we use are optimized for Firefox. We mostly have Macs for our students and teachers, but the administrative division uses PCs for some specific software that requires PCs.

Now on three of the staffs PCs Firefox has stopped working. All three have had updates installed lately which seem to have caused the issue. The last machine it happened on I was personally monitoring the updating process because there was a issue with Java. Some Java settings had to be restored which caused Firefox to download and install an update and after the update was installed, Firefox started crashing on startup.

It's the same for all three computers. Firefox crashes on startup and we can't start the browser in safe mode. There is no BitGuard installed on any of the three computers. All three are running Windows 7 Professional.

We are trying to apply workarounds by using alternative webbrowsers, but in some cases this causes some issues. I have sent some crash reports already explaining the issue.

Please assist as we are somewhat inconvenienced by the problem.

Ok, I may have figured it out, but I'd like to keep this issue open for a few days just in case.

I'm not sure how this issue has affected the other users at my workplace. But what I've done to seemingly fix the issue on my PC is:

    1. Uninstall Firefox.

    2. Delete the Mozilla folder(s) from C:\Program Files(x86)\

    3. Delete the Mozilla folder(s) from C:\Users\[Username]\Local

    4. Delete the Mozilla folder(s) from C:\Users\[Username]\Roaming

    5. Delete all Mozilla strings present in the Windows registry.

    6. Delete the desktop and taksbar shortcuts.

    7. Restarted computer

    8. Downloaded Firefox installation file.

    9. Ran installation file.

    10. Before installation, in options; Unchecked the option to update Firefox automatically.

    11. Unchecking the option to update Firefox automatically was reversed(checked) when Firefox launched so I went into the options menu and unchecked it again.(Under Options - Advanced - Updates)

Then when I closed Firefox and tried to repoen it, it worked. I tried applying the automatic update feature again, and it still works, but I'm not sure if that is what caused the problem so I included the steps taken to uncheck that option just in case someone else is having the same problem.

    Cheers.

YouTube makes me think Flash video could be relevant. This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) Options Advanced General "Use hardware acceleration when available"

    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

    (3) Disable the protected mode feature? The feature has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file.

The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:

Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

    Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209

Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078

You may need to exit and start Firefox up again before this takes effect.

    Any improvement?

DB:2.70:Has Internet Been Slow Lately kz

Has Internet been slow lately in Richmond. We have High Speed 25 at home. Although, I use a wireless adaptor on my computer, I was able to game without lag. Lately, I have noticed that my internet has been quite slow. with Speed 25, I am getting 2.35 mbp on speedtest lately. When we first upgraded to Speed 25, I can get around 15 mbp and slowly over time this speed drops.

So I am wondering if there is any problem with the internet in the Richmond area lately?

    Thanks.

DB:2.70:Has Internet Been Slow Lately kz

    Morning olivewong

Hard to say what's happening here without some further testing. Have you been able to run a speed test wired directly to the modem? What kind of modem have you got, is it one of our wireless modems, or is it just a wired one with your own wireless router in use?

Have you tried some of the troubleshooting steps we've got in these documents?

    Slow Internet Speeds

    Wireless Connectivity Troubleshooting

Let me know if you see any better results after running wired and trying those troubleshooting steps, and we'll take it from there.

    Cheers

    Matt

Firefox crashes on me every few hours. I first noticed it on my laptop but did a ram test and figured out I had bad ram. I replaced the ram but continued getting crashes. Now these crashes are happening on my desktop too. It seems that they happen when I open a new tap and it starts loading the page.

    Hey theriotpt,

Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Try holding down the Shift key while Firefox is loading. If your crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, it is most likely because of an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. If that is the case, you should check out Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems. There is also a lot of useful information in the Knowledge Base article Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes.

    Hopefully this helps!

I don't know why, but Firefox is impossible to use lately. Whenever I open it up, if it opens at all, it closes almost immediately without any crash report or error message. This has only started happening within the past day or so, for no rhyme or reason. I haven't changed anything or done anything different recently that could have casued this problem. It also does this in safe mode, so it isn't an extension. What could be causing this?

I've been having problems with Firefox for about 2 weeks now. Just realized today that my computer freezing and crashing was related to firefox. I'm using IE now, which I try not to use EVER, but I don't have any other choice. My computer is impossible to use when Firefox is running.

Firefox is crashing randomly and sometimes frequently and sometimes not. I recently re-installed Firefox hoping that it would fix my problem. After re-install I noticed I have also been getting Unresponsive Script Errors. I probably got these errors before also but never noticed it because I probably checked the box to not show the error message when those errors popped up.

These random crashes have been happening ever since around Firefox 3.6. I have submitted numerous Mozilla Crash Reports ever since, hoping my problem would be fixed but my problem still occurs.

There doesn't seem to be specific pointers. You can try to temporarily disable Avast to check if the crash repeats. You can also try to check in Windows Safe Mode. If the crash doesn't repeat you could try to fully trust Firefox + its sub processes/files in the different modules of Avast after deleting existing references.

DB:2.68:Firefox Often Crashes When Closing Tabs k7

I've noticed that, when I have multiple tabs open in the same window, FireFox has a tendency to crash when I close one of the tabs. This seems to be more likely when the next tab is still loading. This doesn't seem to happen with closing separate FF windows, or if I move a tab to a new window and then close it.

Also, there is usually no option to send a crash report. I just get a Windows pop up that says firefox has stopped working.
